Season 20,090
Final
It does not get more exciting than a title deciding match between the two teams fighting for the title on the last day of the season. The title is on hand in Mar Sara as the Flames play host to the Rockers, knowing that they just need to find a way to not lose against United in order to take the title away from the capital club. Like all games in the Premiership on the last matchday, it kicks off at noon as the two sides begin their tussle. The two sides are try to probe on another in the opening quarter hour, neither really settling into the game all that way and the nerves clearly on display with so much on the line for both teams. In the forty-second minute there is a breakthrough though, Lyie Lerwick turning her defender in a clever pivot and putting a shot hard and low, Wright unable to extend far enough to keep the shot from going in. It's a first half lead for the Flames, who just need to see out the remaining forty-five minutes in order to secure the title. United pile on the pressure, trying to find the breakthrough against some determined defending but there is no breaking the Flames' defense and you can see why they have been reliably providing defenders for the Marauders the last few years.
Six minutes left on the clock and the Flames just need to not concede twice and the title is theirs, the presenters in the tunnel adding some last minute polish to the trophy to get it ready for the presentation that is to come at the final whistle. Brayan Borja powers through the middle of the Flames defense and is in perfect position to chest down the cross from López on the left, a half volley beating Riga Demetry in net to bring things level. It is not enough though, United still needs another goal and with only four minutes and stoppage time to get it, which seems unlikely with how well Mar Sara has played in their defensive end through the game. Despite their wealth of foreign bought talent, sometimes it is the home grown players that have the most heart and put it all on the line for the club, coming up big when it matters the most. Tairu Conateh, a Banija born right back but who has been with the club since their mid teens years is one of those and made a critical interception in the second minute of three minutes of added time and started running down the sideline like he was shot out of a cannon, cutting inside and squaring the ball across. It was not met by one of the high profile strikers that United has bought but by Marco Grunewald, the attacking midfielder who has been a reserve most of his career but was there at the right time with the right finish to put United ahead and keep the title with the Rockers.
An unbelievable comeback in both the game and season, Mar Sara leading nearly the entire season only to lose it on the last matchday to a United squad who did not lead the table at any point of the season until the end of the final day, with two home grown products being the players who connected for the game and league winning goal. This might not have been the most beautiful of seasons under Dan Eastwood, but the Euran manager once again proved his mettle in digging the side out of the depths of the midtable and climbing all the way back not just for a spot in the Champions League but to earn this league title. The work for them is not over though, with two weeks until the AOCL Final and a lot of decisions to be made between now and then to decide who would take the field against Jungle Strike in Squornshelous.
In Bexar, the Spurs pulled off what looked to be an impossible win over Hondo, keeping Bexar in the top flight for a second season and ruining any chance that the Owls had at taking the last Champions League place away from the Blades. It would not have mattered as Soldarian went to Valanari and calmly earned the three points to secure their spot in the premier international competition next season, having closed the gap somewhat on their rivals but still not in the hunt at the final stretch. Wexax went to Char Sara and despite having propped up the table for the entire season, earned a victory thanks to a strike from Tove Anker, but would it be enough to keep them from being relegated? Club ESF was held to a draw by Ibini in Mar Sara and slipped below the Hammers thank to goal difference and were doomed to be relegated when the final score from Rolalas was put up, Gladerial having gotten an equalizer in the eighty-ninth minute from Oscar Reite, keeping the Twilight above Club ESF as well thanks to goal difference. The Blues being sent unfortunately to the second tier with Valanari and could be facing an exodus of their foreign talent as a result. Longview gets a surprising win against Capri in Longview, adding to the list of big teams to have gone into the mountains and lost against the Foxes, meaning Capri can not overtake Hondo as both sides end up losing, drawing a conclusion to the league. Ibini now casts their eyes to the Cup and hope that Hondo can earn a trophy there to secure the Islanders a spot in the Challengers.
Silver Cup Final
@ The Battleground, Raynor City
Rolalas FC 3-1 Hondo FC
Rolalas: Franklin Harris (39'), Rogue Lyrick (51'), Malin Fossum (72')
Hondo: Seamus Wylten (43')
In the capital, the Blues were able to take full advantage of their semi-home status against Hondo, who in the last two weeks looked like they had already mentally checked out after not being able to get into the Champions League next season. While Seamus Wylten did seem to give the Owls hope just before halftime, equalizing after Harris' remarkable strike from twenty-five yards out a few minutes before for Rolalas, the Owls were not able to carry that momentum into the second half. Caught out by a fellow three forward side, the Owls were unable to cope with the attack from Rolalas, with Lyrick getting an easy tap in shortly into the second half, and then Fossum sealing the deal with a masterful run in off the wing that caught the far post as it was curled in. It spells bad news for Ibini, who are denied a spot in the IFCF and instead the Blues now will get that spot as well as the spot in the Cup Winners' Cup. There is the obvious question if there is enough quality in depth for Rolalas to battle on four fronts next year, but for now, the side and its fans have to be quite happy with a trophy won.
AOCL Final
@ Castle Street (57,300), Jaglan, Algolia, Squonshelan Remnant States
(VAL) Raynor City United 0–0 Jungle Strike FC (VIL) (1–0 aet)
Despite the two week break between the end of their league campaign and the AOCL Final, United looked quite a tired team when they arrived in Jaglan for the match. Perhaps the game against the Flames really had drained them mentally and physically and they were on the backfoot for most of the first half against the traditional powerhouse club from Vilita. Strike looked the better side for the entirety of the opening ninety minutes, with six shots to just two from the Rockers, but Wright had been able to do her duty in net. Selim Estrada Barrientos was brought on to begin extra time for Schofield and the youngster showed why he is around the Marauders team, as he put in a sublime effort from twenty yards out on a trailing run nine minutes into the extra time, the first goal for either side in the match. Wright would make two more saves, including a point blank effort with three minutes to go as United was able to hold on and retain their regional crown, perhaps undeservedly so. Jungle Strike looked the better team but United had a moment of magic that gave them the victory, sometimes that is football though.
