The news of the French conquest of Siam caused panic to those in Parliament as well as the Prime Minister and the Queen as the British Raj and British Malaya was deemed under threat from the French. The rise of the Third French Empire made relations between the UK and France worse and caused the UK and Germany to grow closer. The building of the Kra Canal strained relations between France and the UK even worse due the negative economic effects it would have on British Malaya and Singapore. Beginning in 1898 and ending in 1900, the UK and Germany started negotiations for an economic and a mutual defense treaty in Geneva. While the mutual defense treaty wasn't successful, a free trade deal was successfully negotiated eliminating all tariffs between the 2 countries. In 1909, the British and German delegation successfully negotiate an alliance between the UK and Germany as a counter to both Russia and France. Starting in 1890, the UK began bettering its relations with the United States as a way to get favorable trade deals with the United States.

A Britain that would have become closer to Germany is feasible considering France's aggressive colonial expansionism, but it should be a little better explained - France's attempts to build that canal in Siam and the effects it would have on Singapore would also play a role, as would Germany selling colonies and reducing its naval spending. The 1898-1901 British-German negotiations could be a good point of divergence.
