Katterimunk Bid for International Basketball Championship XXXVIII

The United Socialist States of Katterimunk has decided to bid for hosting the 38th International Basketball Championship in its home courts. The first major tournament hosted by Katterimunk will be a step towards excellence for Katterimunk in International Sporting events. The format and other information are listed below.

Basketball in Katterimunk

While the national basketball league of Katterimunk, the UBL, is a very new phenomenon, Basketball has been in Katterimunk for a long time with national-level tournaments of varying formats that are being played in the nation for about a century. The KBSA Basketball Championship, an open to all club Knockout basketball tournament has been played for over 50 years in the nation, producing some epic and legendary games in Katterimunk. Hence the arenas are old, established, and filled with a rich history. For this tournament, Katterimunk will use 14 different arena - 8 for the group stages, 2 for the knockouts, the reast as reserve arenas. Katterimunk will also provide grand hotels, luxury travel and high-level training arenas for all the teams. We hope the experience all the other players and fans will have in Katterimunk is the best they have had in any other nation they have visited.

Format

Like the previous tournaments, the Katterimunk proposes a simple format of Groups followed by knockouts. As seen in the current 44 signups, Katterimunk has 2 Formats currently in mind.

For 42 teams: 7 groups of 6, single round robin, top 2 from each group along with 2 best 3rd position teams advance to the round of 16, double elimination knockouts
For 48 teams: 8 groups of 6, single round robin, top 2 from each group advance to round of 16, double elimination knockouts

Other formats may be considered if a different number of teams decide to participate.

The Group Stage Ranking System shall follow the following rules:

1) Win record(PCT)
2) Win record between tied teams
3) Point Difference
4) Coin Flip(OOC: RP bonus)

No draws shall be allowed with OT played until a clear winner has been decided.

If a tie between multiple teams must be broken and one team wins the tiebreaker at any stage, while the remaining teams are still tied, the tiebreakers start at the top of the list again to break the tie between the remaining teams.

Games shall be scorinated with Xkoranate standard formula. The cutoff will be at 2-4 PM IST or 9-11 AM UTC (Subject to change) with a 48 hours(+- 2 hrs or stated otherwise) difference in gamedays. Groups scorinated by South Newlandia will have a cutoff around 7-9 PM UTC

Hosting experience

Knowing Katterimunk has no hosting experience, we will be helped OOC by South Newlandia. South Newlandia has co-hosted various tournaments, including World Cup 89, World Baseball Classic 51, and, most relevant, the International Basketball Championships 34. It is to note that South Newlandia will not be entering the tournament or hosting anything at the IC level; their involvement is entirely OOC. They will also scorinate half the groups including Group A (Host Group). Apart from that he will teach me all the nuances of Hosting as well.

With this Katterimunk hopes IBO will accept the bid and allow Katterimunk to host the 38th IBC.
