Sometime before the tournament...

A thousand flowers bloomed around the stage at the Nasturtiumberg Rally Grounds and flags fluttered gaily on the backdrop behind the podium. Occasionally, the pollen from the flowers would cause the Nazi ministers to sneeze in the middle of their speeches, which somewhat ruined the mystique of the whole rally. Still the party faithful crowded into the square to hear what the leaders of the Serene and Glorious Reich had to say.

The Minister for Sport stepped up to the podium and proudly announced that he had a new plan to prove the superiority of National Socialism above all other forms of human civilization. He did not offer any explanation of why his previous plans had failed.

The Minister announced that the Serene and Glorious Reich was going to enter the World Cup of Hockey and prove their prowess on the ice. He sometimes emphasized his points by letting his voice rise almost to a yell, or by gesturing dramatically. And occasionally, he stopped to sneeze or wipe his nose -- breaking the spell that he had worked so hard to weave with his dramatic oratory. "Our national -- ACHOO!!! -- Our national hockey team will dominate the competition," the Minister proclaimed. He paused to snuffle and wipe his nose. "All the world will be in awe of our strength *snuffle* and stamina!"

Behind him, a couple of aides exchanged uncertain looks, and it wasn't just because of all the sneezing. "Do we, uh...have...a national hockey team?" one of them asked.

The other aide didn't say anything, but the look on his face suggested that no, the Serene and Glorious Reich did not have a national hockey team.

"We are going to show the world once and for all that WE! ARE! THE! MASTER! RACE!" the Minister boomed, clenching his fist and raising it above his head to show strength. The crowd cheered wildly and the minister smiled triumphantly -- but then his expression changed. The aides and the other people on the stage saw the Minister for Sport struggling not to sneeze, not to ruin his big climactic moment. It was no use. He let out an epic sneeze right into the microphone, so that the sound echoed through the sound system all across the rally grounds. The microphone and speakers distorted the sound into static, which somehow sounded even more anticlimactic. Live TV coverage broadcast it across the nation to every corner of the Reich. At a train station with plasticene porters with looking glass ties, the people waiting for their trains looked up to see what the noise was. In the shipyard where the Reich built its iconic yellow submarines, a crew of engineers paused in their work and looked up at the TV. One of them accidentally dropped a wrench, which landed on a lever, which set off a colorful, comical, and unlikely chain reaction, spreading chaos throughout the shipyard and causing rainbow colored fish to shoot out of a nearby pipe. The crowd at the Rally Grounds quieted down and shuffled around uncertainly, obviously embarrassed for the Minister.
The Serene and Glorious Reich of Nazi Flower Power has existed for longer than Nazi Germany! Thank you to all the brave men and women of the Allied forces who made this possible!

FLHG Announces 26-Player Roster for Forty-Eighth World Cup of Hockey
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–As the Ligue Gauthier approaches its midseason pause, Lacfroidois ice hockey fans will turn their attention to Quintessence of Dust, where Les Papillons Bleu will enter their third senior World Cup of Hockey. Les Papillons head coach Jean-Luc Dubois, who was hired following a disappointing result in the forty-seventh edition of the hockey championship, announced his 26-player roster and held a press conference at the Banc du Lacfroid Arena in Champlain.

Lacfroid’s status in the realm of international ice hockey has been steadily increasing since its arrival some five years ago. Currently, however, the nation is better known for hosting one iteration each of the World Junior Hockey Championship and the Atlantian Oceania Hockey Championship than for any of its on-ice achievements in the sport. The senior national team’s crowning achievement was making it out of the group stages in WCoH 47, only to fall short in the first knockout round. Each other outing by the national team has ended in the group stages, including on home ice in the Atlantian Oceania Hockey Championship.

Though the junior team, dubbed “Les Chenilles”, made it to the final of World Juniors 18, it has yet to come close to matching that feat, and in fact has managed two consecutive group-stage exits: on home ice in WJHC 19 and in a humiliating last-place finish in Graintfjall in WJHC 20. In club hockey, the Ligue Gauthier’s Board of Trustees has voted to pull out of AO ICE and the Hockey Champions’ League, citing high expenses relative to costs. While the domestic game remains as popular as ever, Lacfroid as a whole has yet to get off the ground as a force in international hockey.

Dubois started his career coaching youth hockey in the Champlain suburb of Battale before being hired as the head coach at the Universitie de Champlain, where he rebuilt the program and led Les Ours to a collegiate championship before being hired away by the Ligue Gauthier’s Croises de Champlain. Dubois’s coaching style is said to be player-driven, focusing on the individual strengths of players over team cohesion or strategic planning. His appointment was met with some derision by established voices in Lacfroidois hockey, who criticized his relative lack of professional experience or pedigree.

Kelssek has a physical and aggressive style of play, with a tendency to forecheck aggressively. Its hockey culture also puts inordinate emphasis on board play; losing board battles implies shame, weakness, cowardice, hormonal inadequacies, etc. There is also a cultural divide between whether players should adopt complex offensive tactics or dump-and-chase. Duncan prefers the former, but older players especially are more comfortable with the latter.

Choose my Scorers: Y
Choose Scoring Events: Y
Godmod Scoring Events: N
RP Injuries to my Players: Y

Assign Penalties to my Players: Y

ATHEARAN NATIONAL TEAM - World Cup of Hockey XLVIII

Atheara screens the ice for the 48th edition of the WCoH.

It's that time of the year Athearans are excited for (Even though Athearan people are generally excited for anything The Republic participates in). The Frostborne return to the ice as they will be participating in the World Cup of Hockey once again. A few new faces in order to ensure roster depth have been added onto the team as Graham Cooper looks to have this team perform better than last cycle. A Round of 32 appearance was a shock for the nation, but they were quickly brought back to reality with a 5 - 1 thrashing by Valanora's Calcuttas. The team energy has been reportedly rather well synchronized and harmonious, and this gives hope for a lot of Athearans who wish for this team to do well enough that in future time, they could be considered a threat for that title. It's still a long way, but subtle steps like this are key.

For the tournament, the darkmanian ice hockey federation has unveiled a fan flag that serves as some sort of a symbol for Darkmania, and can be seen alongside the standard national flag.
Flag doesn't load for some reason.

The biggest story in the world of darkmanian ice hockey is of course that Darkmania won the 20th Junior Hockey World Cup, which is seen as a major feat in darkmanian ice hockey. Several elements have been carried over from the Junior Team to the Senior Team, and expectation is high. So high that there are fans in the half a million from Darkmania that have come just to see the national team.

Meet the Rabouin siblings!

Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer - If you've never heard of the Rabouin siblings, you're probably living on another planet, or you're just fom another nation. The Rabouins is the biggest hockey family in Saint-Jean-Jacques-sur-Mer, which is made with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. The Rabouin family grew up in Chamouille, the working class district, cheering for the Chamouille Condors but neither one of them actually plays for the Condors.

Jean-Guy Rabouin is the elder at 27 years old. He's a left winger and was drafted 9 years ago by the St. Margaret's Bay Admirals and has been an Admiral for his entire career so far. He's actually skating on the 1st line of the national team.

Marie-Chantale Rabouin is a 25 years old center. She was drafted 7 years ago by the Gaulois de Saint-Jean-Baptiste but has been traded to St. Margaret's Bay 3 years ago. In the Ligue Jean-Jacquoise de Hockey, she plays on the same line as her older brother but on the national team, she's a reserve player.

Bruno-Pierre Rabouin is 23 years old and plays left wing with the St-Jean-Jacques Kraken. He's on the 2nd line of the national team and has already reached his peak.

Charles-Alexandre Rabouin, 21 years old, is a center for St. Margaret's Bay Admirals. He's currently not on the national team but has the potential to be the 4th line center on the national team.

Audrey-Anne Rabouin is a 19 years old right wing drafted last year by St-Jean-Jacques Kraken. She actually plays junior hockey with the Chamouille Armada. She could make the national team on the 4th line or as a reserve player.

Rose-Élisabeth Rabouin and Paul-Émile Rabouin are 17 years old twins who will be eligible at next year's draft. Rose-Élisabeth is a center while Paul-Émile is a right wing. They both currently plays for Chamouille Armada in the LHJJJ. They both have the potential to be the two best of the Rabouin family, even better than Jean-Guy.

World Cup of Hockey set to begin,
by Caitlyn Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

Not too long from now, the puck will drop on the 48th World Cup of Hockey, and Cassadaigua is one of 52 nations taking part in the competition. That signup number forced the hosts to go with four group of thirteen, but that does not mean there will be twenty-four games per team. Instead, it will a single round robin which will also mean that all games will be played in the co-hosting nations: Quintessence of Dust and Canadian Dominion. The Matriarchy will be heading to the Dominion, a nation that is making their first significant hosting effort. At present, this host has only released two arenas to the general public, and it is not clear which one of them will be hosting which games, so I am hoping that my agent has taken care of all of those details before I get on the plane to Atlantian Oceania. Presumably, the players know what the plan is. At least, I hope so.

As for the players, there is not a alot of change with the roster, but what change there is, is very significant. Two of the top three players from the last roster have since moved on with Hannah Regan and Kelsey Carver no longer playing at this level. I felt that Regan still had a chance to be on the roster, and the 35-year old was apparently offered a spot. However, Hannah turned it down, not wanting a lesser role on the team and taking a spot away from a younger player. The 34-year old Carver is coming off a lower body injury that sidelined her for the playoffs, and it was best for her to recover at home in Cassadaigua. This leaves Crystal Shadrick centering a line with two new people, but people the Fillies constantly mix and match lines, this isn't going to be a big deal. Being promoted to play with Shadrick, who's also going to be the captain for the first time, are Ashley LaPointe and Tori Davis. Most of the forwards are otherwise the same, but on the fourth line will be Moreau resident, Brianne Deschamps. The 21-year old "North" Cassadagan was just sixteen years of age at the time of the occupation, and she has made an immediate impression for her on-ice ability. Her mother is from Cassadaigua, and her father from Sicoutimont, so the genes were already in place. Both of her parents played hockey in their homelands when they were young, but they would move to the Cooper River Region for reasons they have declined to disclose. That doesn't really matter, and Brianne had considered going to college in Cassadaigua, anyway. She graduated this spring from the University of Northbury.

The defensive pairings, goaltenders, and coaching staff all remains the same, so this group will be looking to build on their appearance from the Squornshelan Remnant States and have an extended run this time around. Cassadaigua will not be considered one of the favorites, but there is hope that the 31st ranked team in the world can sneak into the playoffs even if they will not be predicted to do so by most publications.

They're hoping they've found their man.

After all, it was a saga that everyone wanted to end. From the players to the EIHB people to the fans to even the author of the RP, everyone was hoping that the Ice-a-phants had finally found the right person to lead them. An open advert looking for any foreign coaches ended up getting a grand total of zero replies. Whether it was a matter of other ice hockey governing bodies felt that the EIHB could rustle up a coach on their own turf, a matter of no one actually reading the advert for one reason or another, a complete lack of communication on someone's end, or simply people reading it and they weren't interested was one thing. But it wasn't exactly a good look no matter what the situation was. So, naturally, it was time to try and find one the old-fashioned way, by perusing the ENIHL and seeing if they can grab someone.

Why did this whole thing begin? Around the time of the 45th World Cup of Hockey, then-head coach Alex Sorenson decided that he didn't exactly have that much interest in retaining his job. Whether because he wanted to concentrate on his domestic league team, because he wanted more time for personal things or because he knew that after a while opposing teams would wise up to his tactics and he'd get owned more often than he'd own, it was probably worth stepping back and letting someone else take control. Even if his side were able to win the competition and take home their fifth WCoH trophy, he would still be bowing out. Indeed, hoping to give their outgoing man at the helm a high to end on, the Ice-a-phants completely blitzed their group stage by winning every game and scoring an average of 6.4 goals per game, even if it meant conceding 2.4. This lead them to the #1 seed going into the elimination stage and a match against Savojarna. After a 7-5 goalfest, they were up against their old rivals Valanora, a team that seemed to be going through a bit of a rebuild A rebuild that seems to have worked because not only did they win 3-2 in both the shoot-out and the overall match but would also make it through to the final only to fall to Gyatso-Kai 6-5.

With Alex stepping down with an acceptable result, it was time for the EIHB to look for their new man. The man, the myth, the legend known as Michael Madgwick was instituted as an interim head coach for the 46th edition, albeit purely at his own request. Unsure whether the team letting in a good amount of goals last was simply a problem with the ice or the team getting a bit cocky, he also opted to play a more defensive approach just to ensure that they'd never get caught out like that again. It seemed to have worked as they only conceded a single goal in their group stage run, at the cost of them scoring only five. On the upside, they did manage to win every game by a single goal thanks to there being only four other teams in the group. After beating Anthor 5-0, which given how defensive they were in the group stage made him wonder if the Ducks were going through a bit of a decline or if his side was pretty much holding back, they managed to scrape past Græntfjall 2-1, again in both final score and shoot-out score. Unfortunately Nova Anglicana would best them 3-2 in the shoot-out and 4-3 overall, but at least they went on to beat (co-)hosts Mercedini 3-1 to claim the bronze.

After putting out the aforementioned advert in the run-up to the 47th WCoH, they announced that Coach Alex would be returning until a new head coach was found. Mostly because, again, he still wanted to do other things but also because they were banking on someone else taking up the post. Either way, they stormed through the group stage as one would expect from the #1 in the multiverse at the time, only allowing 8 goals while scoring 34. After vanquishing Placely Placington 6-1 in a Round of 32 game as odd as the team they were playing, the Ice-a-phants were expected to get an easy win against Eden and Cambersey, a bunch of newcomers who managed to finish third in their group. Instead Elejamie shat the bed and went down 4-3. The EIHB ordered an investigation into the match, which was eventually thrown out as you'd expect. The players, meanwhile, took it on the chin and not only congratulated their E&C counterparts but also bought them pizzas after the tournament was over. Plus Alex had to dig up old press releases and interviews just to dispel any rumours that he was forced to fall on his sword after his team exited at the Round of 16.

So now it was time for a third go at finding someone to take control of the national team. After whittling down yet another list of potential candidates followed by making some calls or emails, they finally found their potential candidate. A man called Simón Montenegro, who was also in his second stint as head coach for Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas. He was one of the few head coaches in ENIHL history to have not played in the league and one of even fewer to have not played in either the ENJIHL or the University League as well. This was mostly because he never went on to play professional ice hockey, although he did play between the pipes in high school, but there was another reason for it which shall be touched upon later. Fortunately, he had a decent resume in his nearly thirty-year career, having been a head or assistant coach in various minor, major and university league teams both at home and abroad, with the odd stint or two with junior teams. So on paper he seemed to be a shoo-in.

Even more so considering that, for what he lacked in actual ice hockey skills, he made up for in coming up with tactics and communicating with his players. After all, he was OK in goal when he played in high school but he was pretty much a back-up or third-stringer at best; with luck he would be an emergency goalie somewhere, without it he'd be a started in a very minor league in a country not particularly crazy about the sport. It explained why he wasn't offered a scholarship anywhere and, when he made it into la Universidad de Valledorado, he didn't make it onto the actual team itself. He did, however, show a good amount of knowledge about and interest in coaching, so he did manage to understudy of sorts even if he never managed to play for them. And, indeed, a car accident at the age of 22 that saw his legs being amputated below the knee (one due to the accident itself, the other due to infection) and a lack of a sledge hockey league meant that his playing days were long behind him.

Alright, enough with the shilling, let's get back on topic. Simón had a quick look at the upcoming schedule to see who he would be playing. Some seemed like alright games that were pretty much small stepping stones to the top half of the leaderboard, but there were a few that made his eyes open wide in shock. Powerhouses that his side would have to play early. Naturally, that wouldn't be a good look, even moreso because of the smarting the Ice-a-phants had received in the last tournament. But they had to be done and, with a good amount of luck, they'll still make it through in second or third place. Either way, he had a list and he had to make notes on each team he was bound to face, which have been translated into English from his native Spanish:

  • Valanora: Oh boy, this was going to hurt. The first game of the 48th World Cup of Hockey and it was against their biggest rivals. Simón sighed and began writing his note: "Plays a clean, fast game. Try and kill as much speed as possible."
  • The American Hunters: A nice relaxing game to take away the pain from that opener. The opposition were new to the competition and seemed to be what's known as a "one-and-done" team. Simón was a lot more relaxed about this: "Use this game to vent your frustrations."
  • Ealdracaland: Another team that seemed to be new to the competition. Simón could not figure out what their rankings were or who their players were. So potentially another one-and-done. "Same as last game."
  • Delaclava: A team that the Ice-a-phants had played before. They seemed to have youth on their side, which is more than what Simón could say about this aging core, but perhaps the experience they have might give them the edge. "Study further."
  • Ko-oren: On the one hand, this would be after a bye so they'll be relaxed and refreshed with the only real hard work being training. On the other hand, it's against Ko-oren. They might not be as "el supremo" as Valanora but they are a defensive juggernaut who are frequently in or around the top ten, so they will be a tough nugget to crack. "Unmoveable object. Aim to be the unstoppable force."
  • Cassadaigua: The (mostly) female team that still manages to pack a punch. After all, they managed to win it all once and they tend to place fairly well. "Don't waste time being gentlemen. Think with your upper head."
  • Sarzonia: The Stars. A team that has been out of the loop for a bit and, thus, might be a bit behind on one or two things. But anything could happen and he didn't exactly feel like chancing it. "Keep studying."
  • Torisakia: They weren't new to the competition per se, Simón had recognised the name from competitions past. But they too were a bit out of it and were coming back after a lengthy hiatus. Plus it didn't help that the team seemed to be mostly comprised of university players so that greenness could be used against them. "Don't go too hard on these kids but don't get too cocky either."
  • Canadian Dominion: The co-hosts alongside the Quintessence of Dust. They're an alright team. Got some miles under their belt but a way to go before they could be considered world-beaters. Plus they seemed to be the sort who'd go on a goalapalooza. "Try and catch them while they're off-guard. If you take advantage of their weak-in-comparison defence you might be able to snag a few goals."
  • Eden and Cambersey: Oh god, these guys again. The same team that had humiliated Elejamie in the last tournament. "Don't play nice. Play to win."
  • The Spartan Dominion: Tall. Young. No real depth to speak of. Completely new. Hell-bent on scoring at the cost of their defence. "Even if E y C don't embarrass us, you could still get a good win out of this."
  • Aaaaaa: To counter the difficult opener, Simón's team finishes with one last one-and-doner. One with a creative name too. "At this point we should be through so take it easy. If not, fight as hard as you can even if it's not necessary."

And with that, he was pretty much done. He now had to concentrate on the opener against Valanora. In the last World Cup of Hockey they had finished second in their group with a respectable 6-0-0-1 record as well as 35 goals scored. However, while the top two teams in their group had the same amount of points (19), it was that overtime loss that prevented them from finishing top of their group due to head-to-head rules. Worse, it was a 1-0 OT loss to Ko-oren, so naturally a grudge match will be on the cards later on. Either way, a second place finish was nothing to scoff at. After beating Atheara 5-1, they were up against Trolleborg. You'd expect the Calcuttas to win with little to no problem, right? Nope, Trolleborg not only managed to scrape out a 2-1 win but they a) unintentionally avenged Elejamie by beating Eden and Cambersey 1-0 in the quarter-finals and b) went on to win the tournament thanks to a 2-0 win over Banija.

And there we have it. There was no doubt that this was going to be the most exciting opening match possible due to the massive rivalry between the two teams. Sure things tend to be a bit calmer than you'd expect due to the Elves preferring skill over brute force and the Ice-a-phants fans being some of the friendliest out there, but you've got the winningest WCoH team out there playing against another team they've played in three straight finals. It was pretty much GOAT against GOAT and there were plenty of eyes on that match. Simón knew that, for his first officially sanctioned game, he would need to pull out all the bells, all the whistles and come up with some solid tactics to ensure a victory. A close defeat would also be acceptable. And, despite his aging core which would require him to make a number of changes for the next tournament, he had a feeling that his side would be able to pull it off. He was ready and he was confident.

Of course the fates would probably know what was going on and make it as boring a match as possible, one to rival Gijón. That would be a laugh.

Huayramarca Hockey presents:
The Huayramarcan Ice Hockey National Team

La Selección Huayramarquina de Hockey Sobre Hielo (Spanish)
Huayramarca Mamallaqta Hockey Hayt'aqnin (Quechua)
Ukax Huayramarca Suyu Hockey Ukan Equipo Nacional Ukan Uñt’ayatawa (Aymara)

About Huayramarca: The Plurinational State of Huayramarca, also known as ”Huayramarca Mamallaqta” in Quechua and ”Huayramarca Suyu” in Aymara (literally: Windy Country), is an extraordinarily diverse nation in terms of geography that’s located in Anaia. Crossing three time zones, from the islands, reaching the coast, hiking the mountains and then sliding into the jungle, passing massive cordilleras such as the Andes, a nation with 36 million inhabitants that is composed by 9 different ethnic groups.

Huayramarca as such is a relatively new nation for the traditional standards of it, since it was constituted on 1822 (currently, we sit on 1984 according to the Inca Calendar), the main focus of building this nation was to help different ethnic groups to gather force into the region, in order to be recognized multiversally as a nation, hence, may gather some international protection in case their rights would be abused all of a sudden by an external force.

Being completely ignorant on what was happening around themselves, the Aymara, Quechua, Shuar, Guarani, Montubio, Tsáchila, Huaorani, Andoa and Candoshi ethnics decided to form the Republic with the support of neighbouring nations such as the Royal Kingdom of Québec & Shingoryeo. Migration from Québec happened in the late XIX century, mostly peoples known as ”Guayabalenses” decided to move in order to seek a stable place for their families, considering that their home soil was apparently brushed off the map by a dictator called “Gregory”. That last point forced the Huayramarcans into a stronger union in order to survive.

Until the middle XX century, Huayramarca managed to survive economically from llama, alpaca and vicuña herding, since its skins are highly valuable in neighbouring Québec due to their strong winters; also, coffee production helped Huayramarca to build some solid institutions that promoted national expansion near the Cocoabo Forest, that place is “La Selva”, a lush but quite dangerous forest with hundreds of rivers that come from the Andes. After some years of exploration, the authorities met the first indigenous peoples of the zone, which were exploited in order to produce rubber for tires and some mysterious chickens that were produced to do even more mysterious sacrifices to a deity, which the local people and even the rest of Huayramarca wasn’t able to understand how she works, granted, it’s not even a part of the Incan Mythology which includes Inti(the Sun god) and others.

During said period of time, and in a constant influx, a still unknown quantity of Huayramarcans decided to immigrate to neighbouring nations, especially the Kingdom of Québec & Shingoryeo. The Huayramarcans that managed to settle and refuge in said nation are group characterised by being easily adapted to their new home, they managed to assimilate many of the cultural preferences of the Québécois populace, and one of those was ice hockey, some youngsters decided to venture into the Québécois Hockey League (QHL) and a bare minimum of those were actually lucky to fit into a team. At the same time, a rare phenomena started among the Tsáchila indigenous people, they decided to play some kind of hockey in salt flats, imitating the same principles as their familiars did on Québec, with ice skates, pucks and sticks they were gifted from them.

That somewhat weird splitting was capitalized by a Huayramarcan-Québécois coach who envious of seeing nations from all across the multiverse taking part of the World Cup of Hockey, decided that it was time to see Huayramarca in the biggest scene that hockey has to offer. His job began after watching the WCoH 43 final, he started to investigate the background of the entire QHL, searching for players with Huayramarcan parents or grandparents, his work seemed useless until he got contacted by three QHL players who demonstrated that, in fact, they are Huayramarcans. Taking them into the pocket, he visited Santo Domingo, the city that's closer to the salt flats, where he saw a vibrant scene of teams from all across Huayramarca taking part of it, he arranged a meeting with the Tsáchila's patriarch in order to scout players from the salt flats tournament, he got approved and managed to get a team ready for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, since those players considered themselves capable to jump from the salt flat to the ice rinks.

scene by building from scratch a team for his native Huayramarca, the country he fled in order to pursue a better life in Québec & Shingoryeo. Involved in hockey since his arrival to his new home, he has managed some local teams from Sherbrooke, he was earning his name as a promising coach for youngsters in the area, even helping some of those to jump into the QHL. His training methods are considered to be more focused into collective playing, optimisation of space and focusing in speed and elegance rather than force while attacking, although, a complete fan of somewhat brutal force while defending, he's known for always choosing strong defenceman lines, trying to build an iron curtain on the attempt.

For his venture on Huayramarca, expectations are low since it's taking a group composed by, mostly, amateur players that used to play on salt flats and reinforcing them with five professional QHL players forming the starting lines for the Fugitives. The sole fact of building the team and managing to get support from the Tsáchilas' chief and the National Government is a victory for what was, until today, a completely unknown figure in hockey.

Forward Lines

Line 1:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
47 Simón Lugo 31 186 cm 86 kg Right Montréal Koreana (QHL)
87 Ho Man-Young 24 193 cm 99 kg Right Winnipeg Giants (QHL)
31 Pablo Holguín 28 185 cm 89 kg Left Saint John Acadiens (QHL)

La crème de la crème that Ferrer has to offer for the Fugitives, a trio of moderately strong but extremely fast players from the Québécois Hockey League, featuring Ho Man-Young, one of the best players that the Winnipeg Giants has among their lines, Ho is a skilled player that loves to exploit cracks in the rival defence, using his speed and technique to break them for good, he has a great sense of anticipation and tries to be in right place before the puck, instead of chasing it; he has a bright future forward and pretends to showcase with Huayramarca as much as possible. Simón Lugo and Pablo Holguín accompany Ho at the wings, both are fast enough players but Holguín excels due to his stamina, he is known for playing long periods of time without being substituted, while Lugo tends to be the opposite, since he's a player that tends to be very fast and collaborative on counterattacks, he might be one of the fastest QHL players and that tends to have a toll in his stamina. The trio may try to exploit speed and pass the puck in a space via filtered passes, while Ho would try, if possible, to pull out a five-hole or dribble the defenders and goalie in order to confuse them.

Line 2:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
20 Alonso Ballesteros 31 199 cm 89 kg Left Sechura Oilers (HHL)
42 Héctor Medina 26 198 cm 94 kg Right Parcoy Highlanders (HHL)
91 Eduardo Pizarro 26 200 cm 94 kg Left Guayaquil Coastals (HHL)

A line composed by fast moving players, but stronger compared to the first one. Ferrer has this line in consideration as a technical alternative in case a defence decides to lockdown and there's need of force to crack it. Ballesteros is a left winger that might like to start from behind or receive a pass to test his one-timer, a strong shot that might have some accuracy, his stats at the Huayramarcan Hockey League (HHL) demonstrates some success as he took the Sechura Oilers to win la Copa del Salar in the inaugural season. Medina is a centre forward that prefers to fight when needed, he might be extremely rude if we compare to the standard of this team, he might be involved in fights constantly; despite that, Medina has a great dribbling capacity and couples nicely with fast wingers such as Ballesteros. Pizzaro, in the other hand, is the slowest, but smartest, player on this line, he will always try to anticipate the movements and prevent offside by playing close to the line, he likes to receive passes right to where he is, so it's safe to say that he doesn't move a lot, still, he manages to control the puck nicely and shoot from mid range.

Line 3:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
44 Benjamín Quispe 30 196 cm 88 kg Right Tulcán Eagles (HHL)
76 Marco Huanca 31 186 cm 82 kg Right Illimani Warriors (HHL)
11 Walter Colque 27 191 cm 98 kg Right Metropolitan Condors (HHL)

This third line has a stronger feature compared to the one we had earlier, to the point that some of the players here are considered into special teams such as Walter Colque, this player always chooses violence as his preferred method to solve problems, so, he's almost always involved big time in one, despite that, he has managed to get a great sense of concentration that, if used properly, could help to protect the puck and serve passes to the other two players of his line, specially to Quispe. Benjamín is an agile skater, he has the capability to manoeuvre among the rivals with simplicity, having preference to go behind the goal and serve passes to Huanca. The latter is a player that possesses a rather good one-timer, so, if he considers capable, he will always aim to goal, although his shot capabilities from mid or long range isn't the very best out there.

Line 4:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
30 Diego Rojas 23 182 cm 85 kg Left Putumayo Scavengers (HHL)
19 Anthony Mamani 28 182 cm 91 kg Right Lima Fire (HHL)
26 Ángel Chambi 27 176 cm 75 kg Left San Carlos Turtles (HHL)

A significantly better in terms of speed and stamina, the fourth line may not be as technical as the first, but it's one with players that can resist prolonged periods of intense game on ice, specially for the smallest player of the team, Ángel Chambi may look as a non-threat for rival defenders, but it's a player capable to rush in counterattacks and provide some good passing for his teammates. Diego Rojas is a motivated player, his hockey career is starting and he might look promising for some teams in this World Cup, since he's the most technical player in this line, he's able to appear from the rival's back and shoot surprisingly. Anthony Mamani is your average Huayramarcan hockey player, an individual that might look dull on the ice sometimes, but has a great decision skill while receiving the puck, he might want to come from behind the goal and then shoot the goaltender when he doesn't expects.

Defence Lines

Line 1:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
51 Zayden McCrae 28 199 cm 111 kg Left Prince Eric Orca (QHL)
15 Mario Nieto 30 187 cm 104 kg Right Saint John Acadiens (QHL)

The stellar defensive line features two strong QHL defenders such as Zayden McCrae and Mario Nieto. McCrae is a Huayramarcan because of his father, who immigrated to Québec & Shingoryeo by the age of 24, this player tends to be excessively physical while trying to recover the puck, but also possesses high speed, so he could be a vital piece for Ferrer's counterattack idea when needed. Mario Nieto is the classical hockey defender that tries to chase the puck, hence being somewhat easy to distract at certain occasions, Nieto tends to use his strength to deter players to be close to the goal, also he's versatile as he likes to keep defending position behind the goal in order to avoid a sudden turn from a rival forward that could end in goal.

Line 2:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
01 Felipe Puga 24 193 cm 108 kg Left Sechura Oilers (HHL)
66 Santiago Coronado 30 186 cm 112 kg Right Sechura Oilers (HHL)

This line features what perhaps is the most reliable line in the Huayramarcan Hockey League, both are Oilers and had kept a solid performance during the last season of HHL, specially Puga that led the league in recoveries and puck stealing, a formidable player in terms of physique and speed, Puga can place decently positioned pucks to the forwards in order to help them while transitioning from a defence to attack. Meanwhile, Santiago Coronado is the kind of player that tends to not be aggressive but smart, as he prefers to play nicely with the stick, trying to perform high-style puck recovering from the rivals, he tends to support himself on Puga in order to get out of defensive troubles, so the fastest of the two could led a counterattack when needer. Coronado will always chase the rivals and deter him from shooting.

Line 3:

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
81 Dante Gallardo 24 192 cm 94 kg Right Guayaquil Habitants (HHL)
64 Kevin Mamani 24 197 cm 80 kg Left Andahuaylas Spartans (HHL)

Gallardo and Mamani are, perhaps, projected to be big things in the HHL, this WCoH will provide them in first row an incredible chance to measure their quality and see if they are capable enough to handle the big leagues or if they could suffer scenic panic in this event, that will be seen but they will prove to be helpful and skilled defenders for the Fugitives. Gallardo is a physically and mentally strong player, capable to take out of their minds his opponents and get into brawls to provoke power-plays, still, he can help on controlling the puck and playing with the goaltender in order to kill some time. Mamani, in the other hand, is a swift player that manages to compensate his lack of physical strength with mental speed, he's a talented player that obstructs rivals moves with ease, and provides his team with a scape valve to release pressure behind and transfer it to the forwards.

Netminders

Number Name Age Height Weight Hand Team
45 Bin-Seok 24 202 cm 99 kg Left Prince Eric Orca (QHL)
97 Isaac Choque 25 196 cm 95 kg Right Guayaquil Habitants (HHL)
62 Evo Morales 29 196 cm 103 kg Right Santo Domingo Bruins (HHL)

Huayramarcan goalies tend to be strong physically and able to cover most of the goal in order to block shots, but they have some disadvantages because on how tall can they be, so five-hole is a real possibility to beat them but not so easily. Bin-Seok is one of the best QHL goalies (0.94 save average) , he has great reflexes and capability to block from short range hits to fast one-timers, his experience, despite being young, can provide motivation and a confident player in the riskiest positions that the game has to offer. Isaac Choque and Evo Morales are local league players, they were the two best goalies in the last HHL season, they have proved to be consistent and reliable goal tenders for their teams, having saving average of 0.92 and 0.91 each and they will be always ready to support the team when needed.

Special Teams:

Powerplay 1: Lugo - Ho - Quispe | McCrae - Nieto
Powerplay 2: Ho - Ballesteros - Chambi | Puga - Gallardo
Penalty kill 1: Ho - Holguin | Puga - Coronado
Penalty kill 2: Huanca - A. Mamani | K. Mamani - McCrae

Jerseys: Keeping up with the traditions of Huayramarca, the kits for the national team are always tailored by local companies that manufacture sport textiles, hockey wasn't the exception considering the large indigenous and nostalgic immigrant fanbase. The company on charge was SportPlus, who decided to select traditional patterns for a hockey uniform, putting the crest of Huayramarca Hockey in the middle of it. SportPlus has decided to add technological components in order to enhance performance to the best possible, trying to replicate what jersey makers from the best hockey-playing nations usually do, and also has decided to keep those technologies for the fan version, in order to create a sense of professionalism for those who buy it and make them feel like pro hockey players.

ockey is one of the big three indoor sports in winter-spring season for Quebec and Shingoryeo alongside basketball and volleyball. Traditionally regarded as one of the most historical names in the sport, the World Cup of Hockey 26 champions have signed up not as their usual moniker of Quebec and Shingoryeo, a title the Imperial Sporting Council, one of two immediate bodies between the Ministry of Sport and Hockey Quebec, has retired, but as Independent Athletes from Quebec.

The bulk of the reasoning behind this decision, one that follows precedence from the original I.A.Q. representation in the international football scene was the continued disputes between the ISC, Hockey Quebec and the QHL Players' Association (QHLPA). The disputes are generally viewed to come from the questions about scheduling mid-season international windows (footballers like this, hockeyists not really lol), and not to mention but the heart of it was over the revenue split of the games. Even before the ISC's decision to retire the banner, the squabbles have long caused the alteration of full-strength, collegiate and junior national teams over the past ten World Cups, meaning that the decision to retire the Ice Knights in favour of Grim Reapers, while surprising on the headlines, was perhaps inevitable.

The complicated and messy nature of this split means that each and every cycle the Independent Athletes team from Quebec and Shingoryeo will represent a certain group of players. This will likely mean an age side (usually Under-18s or Under-20s), a collegiate side, or even a regional sides take part, with the players expected to represent the Tricolour Taegeuk in a respectful manner. Coverage for this Team Quebec, due to the recognition-based challenge as a 'independent side', would remain limited with the IAQ team not receiving as much newspaper or television coverage unlike their football equivalents. As with past editions, however, Hockey Quebec will continue to provide necessary staffing and other needed assistance for this tournament.

Anyways, let's go and check out this squad:

Team name: Græntfjall
TLA: GRÆ [GRF when not available]
Demonym: Græntfjaller
Team nickname: Ice Wolves

Kit: White with blue detail and blue socks; alternate is the reverse. Because all Græntfjaller names are patronymic, players typically have their first name on the backs of their shirts.

Coach: Alexandre Brown-Hahm

The veteran Quebecois head coach took over during WCoH47 and took a team battling off-ice issues to the quarterfinals. This time, it's very much his team.

Squad: A 24-person squad has been named for the tournament.
  • The Pavolan Hockey (PHL) is the national hockey league and rivals the GPL (football) for popularity in terms of the national sport.
  • Græntfjaller players tend to be on the bigger side [by human standards], and very physical, fore-checking and back-checking with equal vigor. But this means trading off for speed and most are not skilled puck-handlers by international standards. They hit a lot of one-timers.
  • PHL rules are laxer on charging, cross-checking, and shots to the head than international rules.
  • Fighting, once a basically unknown phenomenon, has become a more regularly accepted feature of the PHL.
  • New players are listed in italics.
  • Because the PHL is very low ranked in HCL terms, all players are available for foreign teams to sign.
1. Starri Hlynursson – G
2. Dagmann Þyrnisson – D
5. Asbjørn Niklasson – LW [A]
8. Qasim (Wahidsson) al-Wahid – D
10. Blængur Arnbjörnsson – RW
15. Kyrri Árgeirsson – C
16. Thokvik Serpentcurse – LW
21. Eiríkur Hálfdánsson – LW
23. Lár Kristfinnsson – C
27. Christian Vífillsson – D
30. Karl Húnnsson – RW
34. Skorri Mikaelsson – C
38. Okechukwu (Nwekesson) Afamefuna – D
39. Kjarval Snorrason – D [A]
60. Lukas Jalmarisson – C
62. Bjarnþór Náttúlfsson – D
66. Sveinn Bertelsson – G
79. Víkingur Gunnólfursson – RW
81. Lárentíus Mattíasarson – G
82. Roberto (Bandeira) Gervásiosson (Teixeira) – RW
85. Ólafur Stefánsson – D
89. Christian Sofusson – LW [C]
92. Rögnvaldur Kolskeggursson – D

Lines will be flexible and adjusted over the course of the tournament but provisionally:

GK1: Starri
GK2: Lárentíus
GK3: Sveinn
After serving a long apprenticeship to Tom Finngeirsson, the rest of the goalkeeper corps gets a chance, with youngster Sveinn and previous reserve Lárentíus duking it out for the #2 spot behind Starri. He is a hybrid keeper like Tom, lacking his predecessor's size but possessing good reactions and speed. A smart player who doesn't commit many errors, even if he's not quite the shot-stopper of his predecessor.

D1: Rögnvaldur – Christian V
D2: Kjarval – Bjarnþór
D3: Okechukwu – Ólafur
D4: Qasim – Dagmann
The retirement of the Ice Wolves' greatest player, captain Bjarnleifur Asgeirsson, leaves a big hole to fill. Rögnvaldur is an outstanding defender and puck handler with a surprising burst of speed for a man his size, and vaults into the starting lineup, joined on the 1st line by Christian V, who made a great impression at the last WCoH with his playmaking ability. Kjarval is also skilled with the puck, but the rest are mostly hewn from rougher rock; Qasim, no longer suspended, is the main enforcer.

L1: Christian S – Lukas – Blængur
L2: Asbjørn – Kyrri – Karl
L3: Thokvik – Skorri – Roberto
L4: Eiríkur – Lár – Víkingur
Lukas Jalmarisson has some pressure on him after an indifferent time out at the last World Cup. Christian Sofusson is the best skater with speed in spite of his size. ABlængur joins the first line: he's the biggest physical presence of the three. Behind them, a powerful and speedy second line led by the best natural goal scorer on the team in Kyrri.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Maybe, ask first if you have something unusual planned
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes, but let me determine the severity
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Maybe, ask first and let me determine the severity
Godmod Other Events: Maybe, ask first
Other: You can sign any of my players should you wish (or draft from the WJHC), given how bad my own league is I'm happy to send them overseas, just shoot me a TG

A note on penalties: Græntfjallers will probably be perceived as dirty players by international standards, but they are not intentionally out to inflict cheap shots, but rather used to league rules that are laxer on checking. Most could not even spell ‘concussion protocol’.

A note on fighting: Fighting has now become more common in the PHL, but be reasonable. Our players are here to skate, not fight, but will fight if provoked. Most should be physically able to handle themselves; I don’t object to you RPing your players ‘winning’ fights but don’t have them mop the ice with mine.

A note on pictures: Please do not use photographs of RL people/teams/stadiums and say they are my players/team/country.

How will the absence of Mat Knies affect the Canadian Dominion Ganders?

Mat Knies, a rising star in the Canadian Dominion hockey scene, is away at the moment due to his participation in the AO Bowling competition. With Knies away, Canadian Dominion must find ways to fill the void left by his absence. They must search for reliable defensemen that can help reinforce their defensive play while helping them maintain their competitive edge in the World Cup of Hockey. It seems as if they will be replacing Knies with Right handed D-man Gabriel Shields until the 20 year old defenseman is gone. With this replacement will it hurt Canadian Dominion in the long run? The answer seems to be “no”. When the puck is on his stick, Gabriel Shields is a force to be reckoned with as he has shown his grit to be a two way defenseman. He has an ability to create offense while simultaneously keeping the puck in the offensive zone and making sure it doesn't leave his opponents end of the ice. This also allows him to deliver some bone-crushing hits when offensive-players cannot get in their lanes. This will help Canadian Dominion start making up for their lacking possession game which they have been criticized for by many observers during past World Cup of Hockey cycles so far.

Will he replace Mat Knies as the first defenseman? Most likely not as Gabriel Shields has been noted to mainly play on the 3rd D-Line in most CDHL games. We have recently interviewed him and we will play that for you all now…

“I'm confident in my ability to play well defensively, but I also know that I have the offensive side of the game which is important,” Shields said. “So playing a little bit of both gives me a little more confidence” and even his coach had some nice things to say about Shields..

"He is a defender who has been able to stick with the puck and is constantly creating opportunities for his offense to make plays as he gets possession back so I feel like we are lucky to have him on the roster” but we do know that he has taken a role on the bottom pairing of the Canadian Dominion team and we will show you the line combinations for tonight's game later down the post.

Another topic we have noticed people saying is that "Is this the year Canadian Dominion makes it out of the Round of 16?" And While Canadian Dominion has been a fairly new in the World Cup of Hockey, will this be the year when their national team, Canadian Dominion Hockey, make it out of the Round of 16 and become a serious contender at the biggest international tournaments? Many hockey fans (us at CDSN included) are hoping that this year could be a major turning point when it comes to Canadian Dominion’s place among hockey superpowers. With a talented young roster, high-level coaching and home ice advantage, Canadian Dominion Hockey is poised to make some noise in WCoH. The hope is that this Canadian Dominion squad can turn their dreams into reality and show that they belong among other elite teams at the pinnacle of international hockey so to answer that question, yes we do think they have a major shot this time around to make it far.

Well that's all folks on CDSN (Until later) today and here are your line combinations as promised

Lacfroidois High Court Upholds FLHG’s Gambling Ban
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VILLE DU LAC–In a brief verdict released Tuesday, the Cour Suprême du Lacfroid upheld the Federacion Lacfroidois du Hockey sur Glace’s ban on gambling within the FLHG, to include gambling of any sort by players, gambling sponsorships, or advertisements for gambling on FLHG properties. The ban as upheld extends to the Ligue Gauthier, university-level hockey, and all youth and junior leagues organized under the FLHG umbrella.

The verdict was unanimous, and its opinion, authored by Juge en Chef Étienne Tremblay, highlighted the federation’s sovereignty over its intellectual property and its right to protect its own integrity. FLHG Chairwoman of the Board Isabelle Dupont released a statement via social media stating that “the CSL’s decision is not only welcome and in keeping with the fine sporting tradition in Lacfroid, but also ensures the sanctity of the game for our children and their children.”

This decision is a bulwark against any possible future interference in the Lacfroidois game by outside commercial interests. The recent uptick in interest in Lacfroidois sports, while it has brought much-needed investment into an otherwise sagging sector, has also brought increased temptation, and the court decision allows the FLHG to remain clear of any and all questions that may be brought about the game’s integrity.

Opinion: CSL gambling decision is a loss for Marco Hertel and BluChip, but also for your local hockey club
Originally published in the Saint-Laurent Sentinel, a left-leaning daily newspaper
On a recent trip to my hometown, Macon, on the Lacfroidois prairie some thirty minutes’ drive north of Saint-Laurent and an hour and a half from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, I took the opportunity to attend a junior ice hockey match at the local rink. The Tigres du Macon were playing the Aigles du Fayette in a local derby that is historically the biggest fixture for either side. In the modest barn, located on the campus of Macon Secondary School down the street from the town’s only grocery store, I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with my secondary school classmates and cheered the way we did as teenagers with our whole lives ahead of us.

The local-hockey experience has changed little since I was a teen, and that’s part of its appeal; for many rural Lacfroidois, nights at la grange are a tentpole of our upbringing, something we share with our children. In Macon, I saw young teenagers on what looked like first dates, parents patiently explaining the rules to school-aged children, and grandparents and older siblings happily toting toddlers along, evidently giving some of Macon’s parents a night off. Yet the cracks are beginning to show; both referees had gray hair, and there was no midget* game to warm up the crowd, I’m told because the Tigres’ youth program has had to cancel its travel season for lack of funds.

While the relative decline of local hockey can be attributed to a number of functions, the centralization of sports betting, which the CSL’s decision effectively underwrites, has hastened it by removing a major source of cash for local clubs. Decades ago, hockey clubs held speed-skating meets or three-on-three basketball tournaments on weeknights, with attendant betting opportunities, to raise cash for equipment, travel costs, and overhead; these days, clubs are forced to rely on gate receipts, sponsorships, and ever-more-price-gouged concession sales to keep the lights on. The verdict from the CSL comes in response to a last-ditch effort by several clubs around the Riviera to overrule the FLHG, but the no-gambling rule has been in effect now for several seasons, and its effects are already being felt.

It is only fair to note that the CSL’s decision goes beyond the ledgers of local hockey clubs. Marco Hertel’s mammoth PlayToy Cabana casino/resort/den of iniquity has been pushing the envelope since it opened, and the existence of its BluChip cryptocurrency is a brute-force attack on the stability of the Lacfroidois franc. BluChip, originally intended to allow foreigners to bet on sports using the Cabana’s sportsbook, has expanded to become an untraceable, unaccountable shadow currency in lieu of the highly-regulated franc. As the crypto’s value waxes and wanes, the franc’s value varies slightly, leading many experts to worry that it could spell the end of the franc’s unassailable value as a reserve currency.

Nevertheless, as BluChip and the Cabana have gained momentum, their rise has disproportionately aided sports other than ice hockey, especially Aussie rules football and boxing. Blu4, the professional Aussie rules competition, has accepted BluChip at its matches for the past two seasons and does a booming business in ticket and merchandise sales in BluChip. Playtoy is already in negotiations to purchase the naming rights to Lacfroid’s first Aussie rules-specific stadium, currently being built on the outskirts of Champlain. That stadium will be a monument to the economic power of Hertel, and BluChip, as well as a stark reminder to the establishment that crypto and gambling are likely here to stay.

Nova Anglicana World Cup of Hockey 47 Roster

Head Coach: Sherm Willis, DC Oilers
Style Modifier: +1.5
Captain: Darren Gordon
Assistant Captains: Sean Harper, Marc Broussard

1st Line
RW Ricky McCoy - hard worker who is harnessing raw talent, athletic build
C Sean Harper - steady, firm, even-keeled, leader, but his on-ice abilities in passing and shooting are excellent too
LW Andre Messier - sharp-tongued Acadien chirps at his opponents, but silences them with his wicked shot and skating abilities

2nd Line
RW David Manning - Capable of a four-point performance one night and looking lost the next, but finding his groove
C Alistair McDaniel - McDaniel is an artist with the puck on his stick, able to find both the net and his teammates, but he can get pushed around a little
LW Francois Coderre - Coderre is a shooting machine, shooting early and often, but the good thing is, it often goes in the net and he varies his shots well

3rd Line
RW Cedric Caldwell - a sniper, incredibly fast with a good body
C Peter Frazier - passes well, speedy with an eye for finding holes in the defense
LW Aaron Shelton - quick with his legs and his shot

4th Line
RW Garrett Brock - hustles, plays good defense, not afraid to lay a lick, there to wear people out
C Jean-Marc Belanger - passes well, moves well, not a scorer, but has good intangibles
LW Alain Marchand - small and speedy, tough to keep up with, big part of this hustle line, decent shooter

Pair 1
Marc Broussard - Broussard is an incredible talent, a two-way player who is at home on both ends of the ice, has become more of a team player
Matt Morrison - Morrison is tall and lanky, excellent at harassing opponents without a lot of physical contact, better than average shot

Pair 2
Stephen Barnett - Barnett is a big body, but not as slow as he looks, has a heavy shot, not afraid to defend his teammates, has become a leader
Patrick Drake - not a big guy, but pretty quick, heads up player with a positive disposition and excellent stick checking abilities

Pair 3
Daniel Ford - Ford is a hulking bruiser who can take your head off with a shot or with a check, but not particularly fast or skilled
Chris Kelley - Kelley is also a physical specimen, will fight if necessary, blocks plenty of shots

Goaltenders
Darren Gordon - technically and tactically sound but athleticism isn't top-tier
Joey Perry - a big body, blocks the net well, but can be beaten by skilled players
