HERE COMES THE IRISH!

Université du Saguenay : A Factfile.

As for the institution itself, Université du Saguenay (official known as Université du Saguenay à South Bend) is considered one of the best universities in Quebec, in particular for its undergraduate education. While excellent across the board, Saguenay is in particular renowned for its world-renowned Cavani School of Business, Lawrence A. Gong School of Architecture, and humanities programs. The university is also renowned for the need-blind admissions policy, as well as its ability to meet 100% of a student’s demonstrated financial need- something that only 5 Québécois institutions can proudly say so.

The university's unique culture, that promotes both the scientific knowledge and religious education, results in the school and its alumni network (only rivalled by St. Croix and Farrer) having close ties to the Québécois elite, in both Saguenay province and those in Montreal the economic capital and Quebec City the artistic and administrative capital of Québec. The Sagueneen elite of both Catholic and Buddhist denominations, seeing the need of a classical institution in Saguenay without having to travel to Québec City, built UdS in considered the capital of Quebecois traditional culture and folk traditions in 1792. Since then, Université du Saguenay has been a centre of Quebecois Religious Thought and also the Quebecois Thought. Atlantian Oceania is a region notable for its centrist political scene with penchant for hereditary power, and Quebec is among them, for its leftist leaning is partly contradicted by long history of purging republicanism - with the most recent purge happening just eight years ago (2034). This thought has partly influenced the Fighting Irish to stand out, as UdS and the Saguenay province are considered the baton of Classical Quebecois Conservatism.

Head Coach: Clement van Eeden Youngblood, 56

Clement van Eeden Youngblood is one of the most experienced head coaches to have come out of Quebec and Shingoryeo in recent years. As with Kweon Joon-Ho of St. Croix, he had a limited career that while had him spend four years as a letterman-earning rover (safety-OLB linebacker) at California University, institution better known for having top 10 teams in every sport not named football (lol), and spent most of his time preparing for a transition into different career. Unlike his extroverted brother, former national team wrestler and current RQOC vice-president and a member of Olympic Council (one of three Quebecois there, with Pierre as the chair of Wrestling Competition Committee of the Olympic Council) Pierre, he had no intention in going into an administrative or national team career, Clement decided to turn into coaching as his next move.

The gamble he's made over three decades ago had turned fruitful, however, as he found himself rising in coaching ladders of every capacity. Initial decade as a high school coach, where he began it with a bang as the head coach of legendary Walton High School team quarterbacked by none other than Dexter Ahn (and his brother Vontaze played two-way right after that), was followed by 5 years in defensive coordinator gig at St. Croix, where he helped St. Croix bring a Tiger Bowl. Eventually it was his turn to take greater responsibilities, and he's spent last thirteen years coaching Yongma College, a historic team known for their 7-5 and 8-4 finishes, into 4 New Year's 6 Bowls and 5 top 10 finishes on national rankings.

In his four seasons with Saguenay, he's kept himself as a mostly program manager and coordinator with his coordinators, all three of them highly experienced and with history of winning, given most playcalling duties. These days he plans out more time working out overall team plans, visions and running the program the way his predecessor, legendary Baek Sang-Joon, had done so, but without the obsession to details as Baek had once done so on defence. So far it's worked out fine, especially with Nadine Rees holding well on bend-but-not-break defence and Sara Lee Hampton being one of the best OCs in all of NSCF, and a NY6 bowl victory his year 1 and a Tiger Bowl in his year 2 more or less prove that. More is to be seen if this translates on the NSCF stage though, especially considering the high-mileage nature of the spring ball, and how intensive the competition can sometimes get here.

Offensive Coordinator: Sara Lee Hampton, 41 (Chromatika)
Defensive Coordinator: Jose Bernat, 28
Special Teams Coordinator: Claude Browne-Cha, 36

Style of Play: Spread Offence / 4-3 Defence

MEET THE COACHES

Base Offensive Formation: Singleback Set
Base Defensive Formation: 5-2

HEAD COACH: JJ Renner, 48

Taking charge of the program after Frontier M&T's forceful expulsion from the South Americanastan National Collegiate Football Association, Coach Renner seeks to stabilize Frontier M&T's football program in a new age of competition, and the fist step to that is to field a competitive team in the NSCF. Part of the Jack Wall coaching tree, he favors a stalwart defense combined with a slow, methodical offense to suffocate an opponent for all four quarters of the game.

Stepping down from a position as a coordinator in the South Americanastan Football League to take the opening as M&T's head coach, Renner began his career as a QB, and then Graduate Assistant, at M&T, before receiving a promotion to Assistant QB Coach for the Rulandi Savannah Bears at 28. He climbed the ladder, eventually becoming an Assistant Head Coach under the Jack Wall-coached Forrestbury Bushwhackers.

However, after the Wall regime in Forrestbury ended due to a contract dispute, Renner was left out at sea, as Wall took a 3-year sabbatical from football before returning to coach the South Americanastan National Team. He would take an offensive coordinator job with the Fralaksai Gunners, a position in which he served the next 4 years. However, after Frontier M&T's expulsion from the SANCFA and subsequent staff cleanout, he stepped down to take the job as head coach at his alma mater.

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: PJ Renner, 29

Nepotism defined. One of JJ Renner's demands to take the M&T job was that his son be hired as the offensive coordinator. In reality, everyone knows that it's the elder Renner running the offensive show, but in an official capacity, "Lil' Renner" collects his salary and calls the plays. Don't get him wrong, though, PJ's not new to coaching football, previously serving as the Linebacker coach at Highlands Provincial University. How much he knows about the offensive side of the ball, however, remains to be seen.

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Jack Johnson, 51

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Johnson has been bouncing around position coach jobs for the past 30 years, but has never received a coordinator opportunity until now. Favoring a run-stopping defense that fights for every inch, his defenses are often prone to chunk plays, but good luck slowly driving downfield on this defense.

Bobby Dials snapped his wrist, firing off a precise pass that smacked soundly into his targets hands. Getting warm, getting loose. He stretched out, reaching up towards the sun. Bobby wasn't the tallest, not cracking six feet in height, but he made up for that by throwing dimes like the one he just dished out. Something blocked out the sunlight for a second, the football getting fired back his way.

It was thrown a little long, Bobby had to push his feet into the turf to run for this one. Not a problem, he'd always been quick as a boy, preferring to play for the local soccer team as a winger and blitzing down the pitch, but once he'd gotten a football in his hands and slung it around, he knew what his calling was. At 19 years old, he was the staring quarterback for LeBois Santura University. They were the second Cardenaoan team to rep the BSU moniker, Mihaly had personally been pissed at the infamous failure of the worst ever BSU iteration in NSCF 27 and ordered LeBois to rebranded and stacked with promising Cardenaoan college talent to compete in the 28th edition of the tournament. Bobby rolled the ball in his hands.

He imagined a horde of Yellowjacket and Miner defenders charging down at him, hoping to sick him or force a pick six. Bobby cut left, juked to the right, and scrambled out of his imaginary pocked before putting his quick release and good hand-eye coordination to hit his target with pin-point accuracy. He was doing great with zero pressure, who could say how things would go once he was being charged down by real players. Real big players. Bobby was only a hair over 5'10 but his passing ability and great athleticism put him in a decent spot, but it was his intangibles that really made him a beast.

Bobby Dials had an intense desire to win, he needed to win and he needed to play well. The lad never gave up, even on the rare occasion he was losing by an insurmountable odds. Losing was just…losing was losing and winning was winning. Easy as that.

Head coach Steve Valentine yelled out, "THREE!"

Bobby D took the snap, looked up, pump faked out to the left side of the field before hitting Keenan McCroy, his third option and a very promising receiver on the right side. The two of them were the same year, Bobby should really hit him up to hang out. Just about time for the end of the free practice, a time where the team could come together and simply play football for the fun of it without the structure of a traditional practice or workout. Having fun was key to Steve Valentine's plan for the upcoming season. The team was young, they were college players after-all, and having fun in an open environment was a very Cardenaoan approach to practice.

Bobby threw another pass out there. The time was coming, the time was nao, and only he could do play a sure role in guiding his team's fate.

NSCF 28 Preview: Hankow State looks to build on program's success + season preview

Image
QB Willie Gordon dazzled fans in the annual spring game as Honey Badger fans hope for continued success in their second season.

Coming off of a historically great debut season, Hankow State looks to keep rolling and build on the foundation laid last season. After appearing in the Big Eight title game and winning a playoff game, head coach Lee Chapman (fresh off of a Coach of the Year nod) is ready to rock and roll once again. "It's not easy to raise the bar when you've set it so high," Chapman said, "but these boys are more than capable of doing it, and every single one of them is bought in to make it happen."

After coming away with an 11-3 record, Hankow State figures to be one of the hottest teams as NSCF 28 approaches. QB Willie Gordon isn't letting the noise get to him, though. "All last season, the mentality was just 'nobody believes in us', and I don't think that's changed," Gordon said. "Sure, we had a great season, but any team can stumble upon a good season. What matters now is that we take that success and start building this program after our success."

While they were tested in the Big Eight last season against the likes of Cold Hill and Richardson, Hankow State has made the move back to the Celestia Conference, renewing their rivalries with Banijan schools Loyola-Istria and Northern Moravica. "It's a really cool feeling," RB Mark Dyer said. "I grew up watching these teams play, so getting to write a new chapter as a player means the world to me."

As we prepare for the season, let's take a look around the rest of the college football landscape and preview the upcoming season:

NSCF 28 Preview:

Big Eight:
Defending Champs: Cold Hill
Favorite: Richardson
Team to Watch: Cold Hill
Sleeper: Evermore Division Winner

Preview: Even though they didn’t pull off the conference championship last season, it’s hard to pick against the reigning champs in Richardson, especially with the vaunted defense that carried them to the title. Don’t expect defending conference champs Cold Hill to simply roll over, though. These two will be going at it, and it’s tough that only one of these two teams will end up playing for a conference championship.

In the other division, it’s a battle of newcomers. Your guess is as good as ours, but whichever team can rise up out of this division will be worth watching, especially if they can win convincingly. If you want to force us into picking a team now, we’ll ride with Bingham Young. For now though? Give us Richardson to get over the hump in conference play and add a Big Eight trophy to their collection.

Winner: Richardson

Celestia:
Defending Champs: Loyola-Istria
Favorite: Northern Moravica
Team to Watch: Hankow State
Sleeper: Upper Westside

Preview: Perhaps the most well-rounded conference in the NSCF, there’s plenty of storylines to pay attention here. Perhaps most notably, Hankow State comes over from the Big Eight after reaching the conference championship in their first season. The pressure to perform again will be high, especially as they renew their storied rivalries. with Loyola-Istria and Northern Moravica.

Speaking of the Banijan schools, they seem all but certain to be going toe-to-toe for the division title once again. The high powered Loyola-Istria offense ultimately prevailed in conference play last season, but we like Northern Moravica to put together a more well-rounded effort and push for the conference championship. Again Hankow State, give us the team with more experience as the Honey Badgers come up just short again in an elusive hunt for a conference championship.

As an aside, expect a whole lot of offense out of this conference.

Winner: Northern Moravica

Horizon:
Defending Champs: Staramara Tech
Favorite: Staramara Tech
Team to Watch: Felswyr State
Sleeper: Sadeg State

Preview: Is there a more lopsided conference in NSCF this season? We don’t think so; the Starlight division features 4 loaded rosters that will certainly batter and bruise each other in division play. Staramara Tech as defending champs figure to be the favorites, but truth be told, any four of the teams could win the division. Felswyr State narrowly missed the conference championship last season, and Sadeg State and Cavsar are far from pushovers.

Whoever comes out on top figures to have an easy path to an auto bid. Commiserations to the Equinox winner in advance, though if one team can put together a convincing performance in division play and steal a game from one of these vaunted squads, perhaps some intrigue could creep into the conference.

For now, we’re riding with Felswyr State to avenge last season’s point differential tiebreak and take the conference title after the Starlight battle royale.

Winner: Felswyr State

Mineral:
Defending Champs: Commonwealth of Baker Park
Favorite: Green City
Team to Watch: U of CBP
Sleeper: Constantinople

Preview: On paper, Green City feels like the team that should be coming out on top with the history they have, but U of CBP surprised us all in a trouncing of the Mineral Conference last season. Between those two and Trent State, the Heartland Division figures to be a tough task for any team, and whoever pulls it out will certainly be battle-tested come playoff time.

That said, don’t sleep on the Boreal Division. Constantinople and Alexandroupolis both went at it last season and will be stepping up for round 2 this season. After both finishing 8-2 in conference last season, we may be in for another drag race between these two squads.

Overall, this may be one of the more all-around competitive conferences. We’re going with U of CBP to repeat this season, but this conference could certainly send multiple teams to the playoff when all is said and done.

Winner: Commonwealth of Baker Park

Woodlands:
Defending Champs: Crown’s College (NSCF 26)
Favorite: Crown’s College
Team to Watch: Crown’s College
Sleeper: St. Croix

Preview: Did Crown’s College win this conference in its last iteration? Yes. But this is far from a team in position to win a conference championship. An uninspiring 6-4 conference record did not set Crown’s up for success, and while they would finish 9-4, their out-of-conference success was not enough for the committee to slot them into the playoff last season.

Was that merely a down year for a historically good team? We’d like to think so, and on paper at least, we like Crown’s to defend their NSCF 26 conference crown. The Cosmos division presents a lot of newcomers, and in what might be one of the weaker conferences in the NSCF, look to this division for this season’s potential breakout team.

Winner: Crown’s College

Zephyr:
Defending Champs: Mancodas
Favorite: ???
Team to Watch: Mancodas
Sleeper: Mar Sara

Preview: Mancodas pulled off a conference championship last season, but it was certainly not very convincing. A 6-4 conference record paired with a 7-6 overall record led them to the #12 seed and an early exit from last season’s playoffs at the hands of Hankow State. We’re keeping our eye on them as defending champs, but with some historically solid squads lurking, we’re not too keen on them defending the crown.

Despite an uncharacteristically “meh” season, we really like Cenesis Naval Academy to make a solid return to form this season. In addition, Mar Sara Tech is lurking after a season off and may be itching to burst back on to the scene. With a Celestial Division title, Tech may very well be a dark horse pick here, and it’s the one we’ll ride with in a conference that was likely the hardest to predict.

Winner: Mar Sara Tech

Preseason Top 10:

1. Richardson University
2. Cold Hill University
3. Staramara Tech
4. University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park
5. Northern Moravica University
6. Felswyr State University
7. Green City University
8. University of Loyola-Istria
9. Hankow State University
10. Crown’s College

The Honey Badgers will start their Celestia campaign on the road against Royal Navy Academy, hoping to start their second season off on the right foot. It marks the start of a tough opening set for the Honey Badgers, as they will take to the road for 4 of their first 5 matchups, including a critical date @ Northern Moravica in Week 4. Strong road performances early on could set the Honey Badgers up for success when it comes time for their 4-week homestand, so all eyes will be on Lee Chapman and his squad to see how they perform in hostile environments so early in the season.

Hankow State University 2023 Schedule:
Week 1: @ Royal Naval Academy
Week 2: @ Upper Westside
Week 3: vs. Universidade de Soria
Week 4: @ Northern Moravica
Week 5: @ Elephant Valley
Week 6: vs. Loyola-Istria (Battle of the Golden Axe)
Week 7: vs. Ratzupalfu
Week 8: vs. Royal Naval Academy
Week 9: vs. Upper Westside.
Week 10: @ Universidade de Soria
Celestia Conference Championship Game: TBD
Week 11: vs. Frisdrank
Week 12: @ Saguenay
Week 13: vs. Palæontological

Intro to BYU “Miners”

The starting Quarterback (Blake Zuercher) would quickly dish out the football to wide receiver Colter Flentroy, in the middle of the drill before the game. Coach Jay Bates would call everyone over and although he was nervous the Coach didn’t show it and spoke to the players with seriousness

“Today is the day, gentlemen. Today, we start a new page in Miner's history, which history begins with the game against the LSU Broncos. Let's make it a good match today; we came here to play football, and you guys are everything about what football is supposed to be about. That's what you guys are about, and when you take this field, you talk about love and care and being humble, and let me tell you something… Love hurts, too, so let's be hurt and play for god, play for your families, play for eachother! Play for everyone watching tonight and show up to win this football game!” The players yelled and soon they took the field ready for this game to start. Tonight they will show the Big 8 why the Bingham Young Miners deserve to be here.

One of the differences between college gridiron and its professional counterpart is the shorter playing career in the former. While one can play in the big leagues for ten or even twenty years, or as long as their health and skill permits, a college player has, in most cases, at most four years before having to give up their spot on the roster.

The Red Pandas of St. Kanye's Upper Westside University were one of those hit hard by this phenomenon known as "graduation" with them entering the twenty-eighth season of NSCF without their entire starting defensive line, not to mention key players like corner Troy Quinn and wideout Tyron Hall. Fortunately for them during their season opener, those who were left had their chances to step up. This was especially true for running back Dayquan Tramell, whose 231 yards and three rushing touchdowns helped UWU turn a measly one-point deficit at halftime into a complete demolition of the Universidade de Soria Bats, 53-19, at the latter's home turf.

1Q UDS KR1 101 kick return (Kick failed) UDS 6-0
The Bats struck first, returning the opening kickoff for six points, but they couldn't make it seven as their PAT attempt was blocked.

1Q UWU Dobler 40 pass from St. Roger (Kick failed) Tie 6-6
A few sequences later, Adrian St. Roger would connect with Sam Dobler (cousin of national team player Bruce Dobler) to put the visitors on the scoreboard. Matt Ingberg's kick sailed wide right, however, keeping it a tied ballgame.

1Q UDS field goal K 35 UDS 9-6
The Red Pandas tried to block another UDS kick, to no avail, and thus the home team would inch ahead once more.

1Q UWU Safety, Smith tackled QB1 in end zone UDS 9-8
A superb punt by Caleb Zimmerman pinned the Bats at their own six-yard line, and then a huge sack on the quarterback by walk-on right end Ignatius Smith put Upper Westside back to within one.

2Q UDS field goal K 33 UDS 12-8
2Q UDS TE1 20 pass from QB1 (K kick) UDS 19-8
Another field goal by the Bats kicker and a touchdown pass from their QB to their tight end made it a two-possession game early in the second period.

2Q UWU field goal Ingberg 26 UDS 19-11
2Q UWU Tramell 43 run (Ingberg kick) UDS 19-18
The Red Pandas answered back with an FG and a TD of their own, but their opponents would still retreat to their locker rooms with one more point.

3Q UWU Tramell 32 run (Ingberg kick) UWU 25-19
Tramell's second end zone visit of the day put UWU on top for the first time during the game, and it only got better from them (or worse, if you were a Soria fan).

3Q UWU Carter 99 interception return (Ingberg kick) UWU 32-19
Starting from their own 14-yard line, UDS marched all the way to UWU's seven. One more play was all they needed to either tie or reclaim the lead, but Ishrael Carter, with some quick thinking on his part, disrupted the QB's pass and took the ball the other way, all the way.

4Q UWU Okoma 17 run (Ingberg kick) UWU 39-19
The Red Pandas' other running back, Chase Okoma, refused to be left out of the scoring party as he took the handoff on a fake pass by St. Roger.

4Q UWU Laney-Seymour 66 pass from Nightingale (Ingberg kick) UWU 46-19
Up twenty with fewer than five minutes left to play, the Red Pandas gave some of their bench players a chance to prove their worth. Backup quarterback Jed Nightingale connected with Dobler and then Jonald Cooley on his first two passes of the contest, and on his third, he threw a long bomb to Josh Laney-Seymour for the score.

4Q UWU Tramell 57 run (Ingberg kick) UWU 53-19
With just 1:23 left on the clock, the visitors managed to sneak in another scoring play. After the Bats turned the ball over on downs, Nightingale handed off to Tramell, who was supposed to just get the first down. However, seeing a clear path ahead, he decided to go ahead and take it to the house.

"Great game, great win for us, and great way to start the new NSCF season," said Tramell, who for his, well, great performance was given the game ball. "Everything was just clicking for us," added St. Roger, before continuing "Hopefully we're able to sustain this form for the entirety of the competition." Up next for the Red Pandas (1-0) is a game at home against the Hankow State University Honey Badgers (also 1-0), who took down the Royal Navy Academy Mariners (0-1) by a score of 33-20; while for Soria (0-1), it's the Mariners themselves.

Rough Start for the Miners

”Hello my name is Mike Lee and i will be your KSL sports reporter for BYU Miners football and well, It was a tough loss to another rookie team but the year isn’t over and we have many more chances coming up but let's focus on the game they played last night.” The sports reporter would shift his body weight and then look at another screen “Lets go over the highlights from last night and well although its a loss this will be a game to remember..”

The screen showed the green field with a gigantic “B” in the middle and this is where it would all start for the Miners, with the LSU Broncos getting the ball first with the Miners kicking off and it will go through the endzone. “Over the left tackle.. Oh? It will be a delayed handoff?! And Paul Michael DeWitt has room, DeWitt barling through mid-field!” Another cut would be made and it would show a different play. “There was a play action pass! And Nejc Graciano the Tight End, a dangerous receiver speeding down inside the BYU 30!” Byu wasn’t done just yet and soon the LSU Offense was shut down at the 35 yard line.

“Out to the right Blake Zuercher in the slot, pass to Colter Flentroy and it's caught! And bursting into Branco territory being stopped at the 40..” It would quickly cut again to see BYU getting ready for another snap to Zuercher, “Dashaun Olney takes it to the first down. We can see a great start from BYU tonight but will they be able to keep it up? Oh, Zuercher with the pass! Giovanni Trinka’s got it but OH! Zamondre Merriweather takes down Trinka!” The commentators would soon talk about this new Instagram page, called the Extreme-Mormons and they would play a quick video on screen during halftime “The Score is LSU Broncos 24 - 16 BYU Miners”.

The Extreme Mormons (Quick break)

We'll Never Be Politicians - By Shattered Temple (Thank you Mertagne) would be playing in the background

The screen would show an Elder from the Church of Jesus Christ and latter-day saints. He would have a bike there, and soon he would speak, “Hello, everyone, this is Elder Matthew. Today Elder Philip and I are at this dirt ramp, and just like life, it is very challenging to get up too. But because I am a man of faith, I am ready to do an Extreme jump on it to convert you all to the Mormon religion, let's get on the path and get Extreme ''It then shows Elder Matthew walking up the hill. He then would point to the sky, and then the video would cut too Matthew rolling down the hill and hitting a small jump with a Hollywood explosion sound, and the video ends there.

Returning to the game

“Welcome back to Joseph Smith Stadium everyone and we are ready to kick-off again, once more BYU is going for the Kickoff and its well past the end-zone. What are they feeding these boys?” the play would continue and then after a couple touchdowns and safeties. WIth BYU in possession the end of the game would be uneventful as BYU only got one touch down with the final score being “BSU 39 - 22 BYU” Although it was a loss, BYU was pretty happy to be here.

High School Football is back! Last time around, Lisa Bonsoon and the Blue and White stopped Mt. Niar from a title once again - while establishing their second in a row. Can anyone stand up to them? With so many good Senior Quarterbacks, will one of the smaller, lesser known schools make a run? Let us see!

Reminder: Tiebreakers are H2H Results then H2H PD. For three-way ties, overall PD is used as the first tiebreaker, and then H2H Results come in for the second and third teams. For ties involving more than three teams, overall PD is used.

Myana Island

Myana Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Myana Northwestern High School Blue and White (#1)
2. Anchors Academy Victors (#20)
3. Pier High School Anglers
4. Myana Central High School Armored Mice
5. Navy Academy High School Anchors
6. Myana Southeastern High School Fathoms

Star Players
Myana Northwestern High School: Senior RB Cho Sang-Wook, Junior QB Nicole Estera, Senior TE Jen Hallow, Freshman DE Alexander Eisenberg (RAN), Sophomore SS Jody Kaines, Junior WR Laak Gyles
Anchors Academy: Sophomore QB Florence Hitt, Sophomore WR Nicholas Tessick, Sophomore TE King Jerron
Pier High School: Senior OLB Jeri Attison, Junior WR McKenzie Rowers
Myana Central High School: Junior CB Garret Jing, Sophomore OLB Theodore Crug
Navy Academy High School: Sophomore MLB Jillian Ederick
Myana Southeastern High School: Junior MLB Carrie Reen

The Rundown:
The Blue and White machine marches on, as Myana Northwestern has seemingly found a gem in Quarterback Nicole Estera. Though Kerron NIcholas and Lisa Bonsoon are gone, Cho Sang-Wook is now a Senior, Jen Hallow remains a very good receiving threat, and the team has two new threats in Sophomore SS Jody Kaines and Alexander Eisenberg, a DE prospect from Ranoria. Their biggest rival this time around will be Anchors Academy, as Florence Hitt has developed into a decent prospect with Nicholas Tessick and King Jerron as good receiving threats. Pier High Schol still has great players in Jeri Attison coming off the edge and McKenzie Rowers being possession-based; Myana Central is also defensive, with JGarret Jing and Theodore Crug - more of a run blitzer. Rounding out the conference is Navy Academy, led by Jillian Ederick's hammering defense, and one Carrie Reen, who will continue to do her best from her MLB position to keep the Fathoms relevant.

Island Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Academy of the Jungle Cats (#6)
2. Egren Academy Inquisitors (#21)
3. Bouveil Historical School Barracudas
4. Inon School for the Arts Reef
5. Eyrods Central High School Mean Green
6. Limonte High School Wheels

Star Players
Academy of the Jungle: Junior RB Yim Jeong-Ba, Senior WR Madison Jones, Sophomore QB Lina Goodson
Egren Academy: Junior RG Christian Paol (Schima Bas), Senior WR Nancy Arling, Freshman SS Dwight Gisen
Bouveil Historical School: Sophomore QB Samuel Hodges, Sophomore RB Tina Hend
Inon School for the Arts: Sophomore FS Skylar Indero, Senior OLB Rhee Markson
Eyrods Central High School: Junior RB Rina Han
Limonte High School: Sophomore C Ekler Jimmek

The Rundown:
The Jungle Cats have become the new class of this conference - and Lina Goodson is a good reason why. Eza Danielson had taken them to new heights, but Goodson is the best Quarterback this school has ever had - with great intangibles, a more than serviceable arm, and ability to handle pressure. Madison Jones is a streaky receiver and Yim Jeong-Ba a bruising back - these Cats definitely have claws. The Inquisitors of Egren Academy will remain a problem - but Theodore Hawkson's graduation has meant that they have a hole in the most important position in the game. Nancy Arling is a great target and Christian Paol paves the way, while Dwight Gisen is one of the better cover safeties in the Conference. As for the Barracudas, Samuel Hodges enters his Sophomore year, ready to build upon being just a rocket arm - as Tina Hend becomes more and more of an elusive back. The Reef of Inon School of the Arts will continue to be a defense-first school with blitzing safety Skylar Indero and all-around favorite Rhee Markson; Rina Han will carry the ball for Eyrods Central, and Limonte will continue to have one good player - that being C Ekler Jimmek, a top line prospect. The Cats are here to play.

Urrhed Island

Emerald Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Staramara Tech High School Battle Angels (#4)
2. Block High School of Tor Wights
3. Staramara Athletics Academy Rangers
4. Qet School of Ornithology Albatrosses
5. Tor High School Shooting Stars
6. Qet High School Pumas

Star Players
Staramara Tech High School: Senior RB Davis Pill, Junior QB Mattieu Hancock, Sophomore OLB Freya Odinsdóttir
Block High School of Tor: Sophomore WR Juron Hadt, Junior QB Liria Elleron, Junior HB Carl Oberon
Staramara Athletics Academy: Junior DE Harvey Mo'aho (Schima Bas), Senior WR Ulrich Hammer
Qet School of Ornithology: Sophomore QB Lee Do-Min, Sophomore WR Maya Edinburgh
Tor High School: Senior TE Barry O'Neil
Qet High School: Sophomore OLB Kim Ok-Bin

The Rundown:
Staramara is a gridiron football town, but this time, Tor may have a say in it. Junior QB Liria Elleron is a wildcard that can win or lose the game at every turn, loving to take risks; alongside Carl Oberon, a shifty running back, and a good elusive Wide Receiver in Juron Hadt. The Wights are, on average, a shifty, elusive, quick squad - which may be what takes down the Battle Angels. Mattieu Hancock has a huge arm, but Davis Pill is their actual weapon - an all-around running back who knows how to take over games. Freya Odinsdóttir leads their defense - though they'll likely have to outscore opponents. What about the Rangers of Staramara Athletics Academy? They also don't have an established Quarterback - though they have a good target in Ulrich Hammer and a speedy rusher in Harvey Mo'aho. The best of Qet is the Albatrosses - Lee Do-Min keeps the school's reputation for fielding mobile Quarterbacks alive, with Maya Edinburgh being her best target in transition. The Shooting Stars have a good Tight End in Barry O'Neil, while Kim Ok-Bin becomes the lynchpin for the Pumas' defense.

Silver Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Urrhed High School Sand Vipers (#15)
2. Tihon Elite Academy Fog Wall
3. Southern Urrheddiao High School Gold
4. Central Tihon High School Knives
5. Waves High School Surfers
6. Northern Urrheddiao High School Royal Purple

Star Players
Urrhed High School: Sophomore QB Reece Santos, Junior RB Dallas Packard, Senior SS Anya Notis
Tihon Elite Academy: Sophomore QB Cade Filox, Freshman WR Nils Jonke, Freshman MLB Rostyslav Illich Kysil
Southern Urrheddiao High School: Junior WR Carson Prince, Freshman RB Eve Wächtler
Central Tihon High School: Junior QB Alana Beorg, Freshman TE Yevdokiya Trokhymivna
Waves High School: Sophomore OLB Cécile Duval
Northern Urrheddiao High School: Freshman RB Laxia Dorran

The Rundown:
The Sand Vipers still own the conference despite losing some weapons. Reece Santos isn't Eduard Hickson, but he's pretty accurate up to forty yards; Dallas Packard can run up the middle, and Anya Notis takes care of things on the defensive end. Their biggest threat will be the Fog Wall - Cade Filox, the bruising Quarterback, has a year under his belt now. Nils Jonke is a 6' 11" threat that just needs the ball thrown in his vicinity, while Illich Kysil is an intriguing prospect - a speedy linebacker who just runs over people. Southern Urrheddiao has lost a treasure in Bernice Draymond, but Carson Prince is a speedy receiver and there is a new threat in Eve Wächtler, another speedy player - the Gold have just become a team of pure speed. As for the rest of the conference, the Knives' Alana Beorg is a scrambler with a decent arm who has a good receiver in Trokhymivna the Tight End, the Surfers of Waves High School just have one notable player in Cécile Duval, their Outside Linebacker; and Freshman RB Laxia Dorran has a lot of potential based on her elusiveness. The Conference has lost a lot of talent, but the Sand Vipers should still win.

Capital District East

Revolution Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Vitoron School of Charge Robots (#3)
2. West Omnio High School Spectral Monks
3. Flames of the Revolution High School Tears
4. Alnio Academy of the Arts Spectrum
5. East Omnio High School Geomancers
6. Alnio High School Fireworks

Star Players
Vitoron School of Charge: Senior QB Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu, Junior TE Qamiya Pierre, Sophomore WR Stephen Marx
West Omnio High School: Sophomore QB Nyra Pendheim, Junior WR Fyre Lindor, Sophomore TE Maggie Holst
Flames of the Revolution High School: Freshman QB Jericho Gustafsson, Sophomore MLB Erik Hammer
Alnio Academy of the Arts: Junior QB Kidd Epstein, Freshman WR Derron Cinder
East Omnio High School: Sophomore WR Merrill Lyle
Alnio High School: Senior FB Pang Gisim

The Rundown:
These Robots were so close to getting to the National Championship game again - and they should be back. Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu enters her Senior year, having lost the majority of her receiving core; she still has Qamiya Pierre as a great deep threat of a Tight End, while Stephen Marx replaced Uriah Anyar as the receiver that stretches the field. Onwuatuegwu will have to generate the opportunities on her own this season, but she seems up to the challenge. Don't be surprised to see the Spectral Monks in the mix, with Nyra Pondheim, the Quarterback with tremendous mental poise, leading the way - Fyre Lindor will be her best target, while Maggie Holst establishes herself as an option at Tight End. It will be the best year in a while for the Flames of the Revolution High School Tears - as Jericho Gustaffson has been recruited as a great dual-threat Quarterback to aid a team that has historically only had defensive heroes - not that they're lacking in that regard, with Erik Hammer being in the team now in the MLB position. The Spectrum field dual threat Quarterback Kidd Epstein and speedster Derron Cinder as their best weapons, but it will likely not be enough. The best players for East Omnio and Alnio are Merril Lyle and Pang Gisim - with Lyle being a speedy receiver with nobody to throw him the ball and Gisim being a great blocker with nobody to block for - the nation's best prospect at fullback.

Grandmaster Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted Masterminds (#8)
2. Gurshan High School Drills
3. Aya K. Jackson High School Runners
4. Hanai Central High School Cruisers
5. Wirr Tsi Capital School Bears
6. Air Force Academy High School Wings

Star Players
Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted: Senior QB Rudy Sai, Sophomore RB Everard Gilstand, Freshman SS Ryan Leichard
Gurshan High School: Senior QB Wiles Moray, Junior FS Rain Krell, Freshman WR Hannah Riechart
Aya K. Jackson High School: Sophomore QB Justin Ilgrind, Sophomore SS Kim Yeong-Bam
Hanai Central High School: Junior C Dwayne Fickle (Schima Bas), Senior TE Willie Fogg
Wirr Tsi Capital School: Sophomore RB Miles Suyanghar
Air Force Academy High School: Freshman QB Amy Hallstead

The Rundown:
The Masterminds have been waiting for a long time to make a run in the National scene, and this is the year. Rudy Sai has been a great story as he's gotten older - with great decision making skills and weapons in Everard Gilstand (great runner, decent receiver) and Ryan Leichard on the defensive side (a physical safety). Their biggest competition in-conference will be Wiles Moray - a mobile Quarterback that can sling it all over the field - as Hannah Reichart establishes herself as his favorite target. Rain Krell is ready to take over on the defensive side, being a physical playmaker. Aya K. Jackson has Justin Illgrind and Kim Yeong-Bam to fill two of the more important positions in the game - but the Runners always play their opposition tough. Hanai Central's Mikayla Anne has graduated, leading to a team with good position players in Center Dwayne Fickle and Senior Tight End Willie Fogg that are lacking that Quarterback. Wirr Tsi Capital will lean on Miles Suyanghar being an every-down back, while Amy Hallstead steps into Quarterback for the Wings - a possible breakout star given her size and mobility.

Capital District West

Chromia Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. The Chromatik Institute Dread (#9)
2. South Chromia High School Terror (#24)
3. Chromia School of History Knights
4. Checkers High School Chessmen
5. North Chromia High School Hotshots
6. Central High School Defenders

Star Players
The Chromatik Institute: Junior QB Raul Sébastien Santos, Junior WR Jacqueline Fofo, Senior OLB Carmen Dior, Junior WR Lenny Rhimes
South Chromia High School: Freshman QB George Reed, Junior TE Lyra Poome, Senior SS Kyra Theodore
Chromia School of History: Freshman C Ollie Justinian, Freshman RB Kellen Hollin
Checkers High School: Junior MLB Dean Ross, Sophomore DT Anderson HIckory
North Chromia High School: Junior SS Conrad Siolla (Schima Bas)
Central High School: Senior RB Erik Kenzie

The Rundown:
It is time for the Dread to truly take over. Led by a trio of Juniors - QB Raul Sébastien Santos, who can sling the ball with either hand and has a pretty release, with his two favorite targets in Jacqueline Fofo and Lenny Rhimes - the Dread's offense will be humming, while Carmen Dior has stepped up at Outside Linebacker to round out the team. South Chromia takes over as the team most likely to give them a scare - with George Reed, a Freshman who can throw the ball all over the field. Lyra Poome is still present as a Tight End that can catch more than ten goals a game, while Kyra Theodore shores up the defensive side of things, being a rangy strong safety. The Knights of Chromia School of History have a solid base in Center Ollie Justinian and Running Back Kellen Hollin, but the rest of the team is in shambles; Checkers High School has two defensive pieces in Middle Linebacker Dean Ross and Defensive Tackle Anderson Hickory; Conrad Siolla is the only bright piece remaining for the Terror of North Chromia, and the Defeners have truly fallen, having to rely on Erik Kenzie for everything on the offensive end.

Black & White Conference
Predicted Order of Finish:
1. Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School Martyrs (#2)
2. Capital District Academy Regiment (#17)
3. Facsimilie High School Enigma
4. Nonian Central High School Naysayers
5. Dre'a Elite Academy Darkness
6. Kynxe High School Monsoon

Star Players
Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School: Senior QB Noah Sellers, Senior RB Isidore Kraut, Junior TE Earnest Pam
Capital District Academy: Junior QB Merik Hyosal, Senior WR Ross Black (Schima Bas), Senior CB Reed Rick
Facsimilie High School: Sophomore QB Fred Derrick, Sophomore RB Edwin Jackson-Jones
Nonian Central High School: Sophomore QB Pym Murrock, Junior TE Erickson Gant
Dre'a Elite Academy: Junior OLB Amy Piltonger
Kynxe High School: Freshman DE Mick Jones

The Rundown:
This should be one of the most fun conferences to watch. The Martyrs have Noah Sellers - a very stable Quarterback with Isidore Kraut in the backfield and Earnest Pam as a security blanket - even without Enox Silverman, they're the #2 team in the country. Capital District Academy has a golden shot - Merik Hyosal is a mobile Quarterback with Ross Black as the possession target and Reed Rick as a cover corner who can take over any game. Facsimilie is on the rise - Fred Derrick has shown he can be accurate to a point, while Edwin Jackson-Jones is a bit of a pinball. The Naysayers of Nonian Central have Pym Murrock as a bit of a game manager while their best threat is Tight End Erickson Grant. Amy Piltonger will be the only bright spot for the Darkness, while Mick Jones will be wondering if he joined the wrong school with the Monsoon, being their best player despite being a Freshman.

NSFB: Talk About A Good Start

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Mar 02, 2023 11:33 am

Well then...welcome back to the NSCF! Last season would see one school just about make it to a .500 record while the other completed the cycle that school 1 had already done. School 1 made the Championship game out of nowhere, lost to a team from Chromatika and then made it to the Semis the season after that. Then the year after Scool 2 made the Championship game out of nowhere, lost to a team from Chromatika and then made it to the Semis the season after that. No one really knows what the fuck is supposed to happen next...and that certainly would make this return very interesting indeed.

Let's start with the Trent State Feathercaps, who didn't have the best of seasons last year at 7-7 but did still end up with the Earth Trophy in their possession. Johnny Bridgeford was entering the 2nd year of the Jason Steels era and while he certainly knew that he can make progress, he also knew that the new WR core was certainly going to make things interesting no matter what. The schedule actually served up a very hype opening weekend as both Mineral Conference and Heartland Division play started with the UCBP Warriors coming to the Horseshoe. Ryan Benton's defending MinCon Champions was always going to be a difficult test, there was no debate about that, and the duel both teams would end up playing certainly ended up being one for the ages. Neal Antonelli was the starting QB for the Warriors and he would manage a nice cool 36 points on the day thanks to 3 TDs from Bonaventure Igueikibe, 2 from Terry Kennedy, a 2PC run in by the QB and 4/4 PATs from Greg Mead. TSU, on the overhand, certainly pushed on no matter what and Steels managed 5 TDs too - 2 each to Yurilka Zelinskaya and Catherine Alcaraz-Cortéz, 1 via Samantha Gibson, a 2PC that was completed by Patrícia Chládeková and a superb 4/4 PATs from Eleonora "Firefeet" Scafakou. The final 2 minutes of this contest would end up deciding everything as a FG attempt from Mead ended up getting blocked by Alexa Helena while Firefeet was given the opportunity to walk off the game...and you knew she'd do just that. The Conference Champs fall down on MD1, 39-36 - and NSCF is certainly back.

Meanwhile, let's talk about the Green City Royal Eagles, who made it all the way to Semifinals last season but no further - and lost the Earth Trophy at that. Paul Abdullahi knew that this program can do more great things in the future but considering the number of pieces that graduated since the last time this team suited up, he wasn't exactly sure what to expect from the opening few games of the season. The opening game for GCU would end up in unfamiliar territory as they headed out to Gemmisland to face the debuting Mount Winston Diamond Hogs on the road. The defence certainly ended up proving their NSCF experience by allowing only 2 FG and producing 2 Pick 6s, both taken home by Faith Okobi, but the main focus on those in Green and Black would be on the new-look offence and particularly on the new QB in the saddle: Alisha Obi Michel. TJUN-ia has never seen a female QB before and while there were sceptics who questioned whether she would sling it just as well as a man, those questions would be put to bed in the Land of Gems as she managed a 5 TD performance on debut. It did help that her WRs were also new and both of them, Harrison Jeffers and Carlton McSwane, would manage 2 TDs in this game while the missing TD would be scored by Mercy Oshoala. Glory Oparanozie was outstanding, again, in going 6/6 on PATs and even a 2PC was scored by the new QB as she certainly owned this night in a 50-6 triumph.

The opponents will be switched next week, but the travel remains the same - the Horseshoe will host Mount Winston while GCU heads out to UCBP. It should be a fun weekend of action, but a big question remains...in what position will everyone be in by the time we get to Earth Trophy VII?

Game of the Week
Moravica A&M Centaurs 6–6 Kizza I College Cubs (20–28 3OT)

The triple overtime game has to be the game of the week(s), right? Especially when it involves the #1 overall team in the country.

While this was obviously the game to watch, it didn't necessarily start out like that. Ending 6-6 after regulation is not necessarily going to turn too many heads, your way, although there were legitimate reasons there. The first three quarters, they basically played through a rainstorm- the sun only starting to shine midway through the fourth quarter. The passion in Moravica has always been great for college football, and that is no less true here, with Jijidar, home of the Centaurs, absolutely rocking with this visit from the mighty Cubs.

Each team could only manage two field goals in regular time- A&M hit field goals from 33 and 35 in the 2nd quarter, while the Cubs hit from 47 and 50 in the fourth quarter. The Cubs also missed from 55 as time expired in regulation. So to overtime we go. Suddenly, offenses that were allergic to scoring, started scoring. We told you about the Cubs senior QB, Oladobu Nantambu. Struggling for most of the game, he suddenly found his form. The Cubs just needed two plays in the opening OT possession. Nantambu scrambling for 9 yards on a designed QB draw, for second and one. Then, going for it all- throwing an absolutely perfect fade to his WR1. 13-6, Cubs.

Centaurs would need a touchdown on their possession. But the advantage of going second, of course, helps. They didn't necessarily roll like the Cubs. They took the maximum amount of plays, going 3/3 on fourth down on a drive that started at the 25. Fourth and 7- got right to the sticks with a curl route at the 15. Fourth and inches from the 5... QB sneak. And fourth and goal from the 3.. A perfectly designed TE screen. 13-12. But Centaurs didn't want another OT- you're the less talented team, you always go for the win, right? They lined up in a jumbo package. Perfectly designed play-action, WIDE open TE.. 2PC good. Centaur mania. Storm the field. Down go the mighty Cubs, right?

Wrong. Fans stormed the field, only to be turned around- a holding penalty on the Centaurs LT. They kicked the PAT to tie the game, 13-13. The 2nd OT was an exercise in efficiency. 20 yard TD run for the Centaurs, and a 23 yard TD pass for Nantambu and the Cubs. They did not go for 2- they're the deeper and more talented team, they can keep playing. And that's exactly what they did. Nantambu threw his third TD pass in OT, and successfully ran a read-option into the end zone for a 2PC. On the other hand, the Centaurs couldn't keep up, as a strip sack by the Cubs DE finished off the upset bid.

The Cubs survive! What a game it was though.

Upset of the Week
North Ankole University Headhunting Sloughis 24–17 University of Aksum Silverbacks

Just because you're highly ranked, does not mean that you are promised anything in this world. The Cubs found that out. And the Silverbacks, were about to. They traveled to North Ankole, to take on the Headhunting Sloughis. They were big favorites in North Ankole. The Headhunting SLoughis are projected to finished 8th in their 9 team conference. Silverbacks, are the #3 team in all of Banija. Should be an easy route to an early season road win for U of A? They not only want into the playoffs- but they've got designs on that #1 overall seed.

"Well, I won't lie- we were caught looking ahead." Said U of A"s head coach- a rare admission from a head coach at this level. But it happens. It was about as wonky and sloppy of a game as you'd ever expect from the Silverbacks. They fumbled the ball away twice, inside the opponent's 5 yard line. The Headhunting Sloughis were excellent on special teams. They returned the opening kickoff of the game for a touchdown, as well as returning a punt in the second quarter all the way down to the 4 yard line- where they'd punch it into the end zone just two plays later.

How'd this end? A nightmare for the Silverbacks. A smashmouth team who could never really get the running game going. Their QB trying to get the team back into the contest. 4th and 4 to stay alive with 50 seconds left... And they call for a swing pass that gets blown up in the backfield for a loss. Infuriating. Definitely not the start to the season they wanted as Northern 9 Conference play looms large.

Best Moment of the Week
Fort Lusiyo University Elks 36–33 Moravica State University Jackrabbits

Projected to finish second-last in a conference full of teams that were JUST in Division 2... They opened as 15.5 point underdogs in their first ever game at the Division I level. Their opponent? Moravica State. A solid, if not great program, the Jackrabbits loved this matchup... Thought it was a chance to steal an early season road win, as they try to make their first playoff appearance in 6 seasons.

Fortunately for us, we got treated to the wonkiest, craziest CFB game of all time. A game that was tied at 33-33, you think, would have lots of field goals, right? Exactly the opposite- an even wonkier way to get there. The Elks scored 5 TDs, but they missed 2 extra points, to get to 33 points. Otherwise, their offense was absolutely humming. First ever game at this level, and the Aksum side was absolutely humming on offense. "Look, I've been telling people all year- the teams in this conference, in the BAC, we're absolutely capable of competing competitively at this level." Said Fort Lusiyo's HC. "Man for man, we're going to build the depth it requires to be successful over the years, but we are absolutely capable of coming to games like this and winning them." Someone should tell them to get a DI kicker, eh?

Of course, MOravica State's defense was a disaster- but they made up for it with their own offense. The Jackrabbits didn't travel north just to take a wonky loss. They matched the Elks, score for score, as they tried to mount a comeback. They had fallen 21-10 midway through the second quarter, but the Jackrabbits had been coming back in stunning and spectacular ways. Going for it on 4th and 9 from their own 24 when down 21-0- and converting. Throwing a successfully Hail Mary at the end of the first half to make it 21-10. Going for 2 in the third quarter and making it to make it a three point game, 21-18. And after the Elks responded with two more TDs(missing both PATs), the Jackrabbits did the same. Scoring with 7 minutes left in the quarter, recovering the onside kick, and scoring again, while making ANOTHER 2PC.

33-33. But the Elks would have the last laugh. Their kicker, who had missed his last two extra points, nailed a 43 yarder as time expired, for the Elks first ever Division I win. You weren't keeping them off the field tonight. Players and fans poured onto the field, celebrating the moment.

Best Individual Performance of the Week
Wild Valley University Hornets 49–27 Lesedi University Rhinos

The Golden Hornets were basically absolutely dominant in every sense of the word, in this huge week 2 victory over Lesedi University. Picture-perfect precision, showing why exactly they are a contender to win not only the UCC, but a national title. The 22 point margin of victory actually makes the game look a lot closer than it was. The Golden Hornets, without forcing any turnovers, scored touchdowns on their first 7 possessions of the game, all while starting inside their own 40 each time.

Baka Webo was 18/20, for 311 yards and 5 TDs. Just an absolute destruction of the Rhinos defense. 6 possessions, 6 TDs in the first half for the Golden Hornets. Webo came into the second half for exactly one play, throwing an 81 yard TD bomb- and that was his final play of the contest. He left the game with a 49-7 lead, and the Rhinos backups scored 20 points against the Golden Hornets backups in the fourth quarter. A complete destruction, one that raises the profile of not only this team, but this quarterback as well.

What does this mean as we head into Conference Play?

These will be some of the shortest blurbs you've ever seen. Our task- tell us, in just a few words, what the opening two weeks means for each conference, as conference play kicks off next weekend with Week 3.

Northern 9

Just two words for ya. This is WIDE OPEN. If anyone thought U of A would run away with this one, think again. Moravica A&M took the #1 team in the country all the way to the limit, not falling until the third OT. Out of the teams projected to finish in the top 2/3s of this conference- only one, Moravica International, are 2-0.

Upper Coastal

Things are humming right along, as expected. 2 of the 3 favorites played well- with WVU and the Islamic U both sitting pretty at 2-0. The UCC is probably Banija's deepest conference, and this is probably a three bid conference at a minimum- and probably a four or five bid conference if things really go crazy. Hell, nobody thought they'd do much of anything, but Istria City College have broken their way into the top 10 even- although, like we said, its' only been 2 weeks. Expect the UCC, once again, to be Banija's deepest league.

Valley Interior

I don't think we learned a ton. Loyola-Jinja beat up on a pair of BAC teams, both playing their first and second ever games, respectively, at the Division I level. U of Moravica did not start the season well, but were humming right along in their big week 2 win. Sometimes teams just need a week to get themselves going. We'll see how things go in this conference.

Southern Shango

Sankt Adelheid are Jekyll and Hyde. They scored just 9 points- three field goals- in an ugly, 26-9 road loss to Nsade State to start the season. Then, just one week later, they're blitzing North Hangaza for 71?!?!?! Even got in that 2 point conversion after their third TD. Nothing in this world makes sense.

Kuanen River

The KRC is Hangaza Tech's to lose.. but Hangaza A&M may be their biggest challenger. It was certainly an inconsistent weekend for the Kuanen River Conference, with big-name schools suffering ugly losses, while Tech continued to cruise. Hangaza A&M, however, picked up some of the slack- a HUGE upset over the University of Moravica Golden Bears basically put them straight into the top 10- for now, anyways.

Lower Coastal

A weak conference. This may be a one-bid show. Their top teams did not look great. Mamari U got crushed by Istria City College in week 2. The U of Kitara Hippogriffs, meanwhile, got boatraced by Jawara Tech. Kabakono and South Kitara are both 2-0.. But voters aren't believers just yet, as neither school cracked the top 10.

Sun Valley

Zakuta State are the big favorites here- still. But the University of Buganda is looking hot with their 2-0 start in non-con play. Could they upset the Crocs and take them down?

Banijan Athletic

About as wide open as it gets. And that's how we expected it, generally. But the big thing- these D2 teams can compete at this level. They aren't just out here getting boatraced. The Highland Hares are a 52 yard FG as time expires by the Islamic U from being 2-0. Mercy U is 0-2.. But they had to play the top two teams in the country- the Cubs and the Crocodiles in back-to-back weeks. They may be a one bid conference at the end of the day.. But they certainly won't be pushovers.

Top 10 After Week 2 - 74 voters. One for each school, plus one for ULI and NMU.
#1 Kizza I College Cubs(2-0): Stayed the same. Ranked #1 in the preseason polls. 55 votes for #1.
#2 Zakuta State Crocodiles(2-0): Stayed the same. Ranked #2 in the preseason polls. 18 votes for #1.
#3 Wild Valley Golden Hornets(2-0): Moved up one. Ranked #4 in the preseason polls. 1 vote for #1.
#4 Hangaza Tech River Rats(2-0): Moved up five spots. Ranked #9 in the preseason polls.
#5 Islamic U of Busoga Caracals(2-0): Moved up three spots. Ranked #8 in the preseason polls.
#6 Loyola-Jinja Ostriches(2-0): Stayed the same
#7 Istria City College King Crabs(2-0): Previously unranked. Unranked in the preseason polls.
#8 University of Aksum Silverbacks(1-1): Moved down 5 spots
#9 Hangaza A&M Bull Elephants(2-0): Previously unranked. Unranked in the preseason polls.
#10 University of Moravica Golden Bears(1-1): Moved down 5 spots

Formerly Ranked
University of Ankole Warriors(1-1). Ranked #7 in the preseason polls.
Lake Wakiso State Lukwata(1-1). Ranked #10 in the preseason polls.

Let's talk about these rankings, shall we? As expected, plenty of movement in the polls after we started playing the games- who knew? Only three teams stayed in their same positions from the preseason polls. The top two spots stayed the same, with Kizza I College remaining #1, while Zakuta State stayed in the #2 position. Of course, the Cubs went to triple OT in week 1- but they handled their business against Mercy U in their home opener, to move up to 2-0. The Crocodiles, meanwhile, were in complete control in both of their games, with double digit wins against Mercy U and Zawadi, respectively, to start the season.

Only one other team received a first place vote, Wild Valley U. Lance Kabuye's former school are proficient on offense to say the least, scoring 86 points to start the season. Elite QB play. Tested on the road in week 1 and they won, and they carved up their opponents in week 2. They've got big dreams. They moved up one slot, from #4 to #3. Behind them, you've got one of the biggest movers of the week- Hangaza Tech, who went from #9 to #4. Why, do you ask? Blowout wins against quality opposition. 23 point win over U of H is a good sign. A 16 point road win over Star and Crescent impressed voters as well. It makes the River Rats, the alma mater of Banijan auto racer Jelan Ozoemena, jump so high in this ranking.

The Islamic U jumped three spots mostly due to their thorough dismantling of Central Aksum- a 62-10 victory, especially against a solid team like the Titans, is a 62-10 victory. Maybe that rings alarm bells for the Titans, yes- but the Caracals are feeling good about themselves. Of course, the Titans did not help themselves, as their QB got a concussion on the game's opening play(where he threw a pick six), and was out for the contest. The Titans QB will return next week- but a backup QB isn't responsible for conceding 62 points.

First, we've got teams who moved down in the rankings. We've talked about U of Aksum's loss. But what about U of M? The Golden Bears couldn't handle Hangaza A&M, and allowed 40 points on the road. Both teams moving down 5 spots was deserved. Could have been worse, though. Two more teams fell out of the top 10 entirely- Lake Wakiso State and the University of Ankole Warrriors. The Warriors lost to Army, so- deserved. Lake Wakiso State had an ugly loss at Central Aksum- which looks even worse after Central Aksum followed that up by falling, 62-10, to the Islamic U, although admittedly they did so with a backup QB.

And lastly, two previously unranked teams are ranked. First, the Hangaza A&M Bull Elephants. They've got that impressive win over the University of Moravica, of course. But they followed that up, winning a defensive battle over Heshima & Usian to get to 2-0 for the first time in 4 years. A surprise playoff appearance on the cards for them? And secondly, Istria City College. The King Crabs have a 34 point win and an 18 point win- the latter being over a Sand Spiders team that opened as preseason favorites to win the LCC. How can you not put them in the rankings?

Conference play is set to begin next week- and teams are salivating at the opportunity.

QB Oladobu Nantambu- Senior at Kizza I College.
QB Baka Webo- Sophomore at Wild Valley.

NMU Brief- Cougars defeat the Egrets in a rainstorm, 26-13, to get their second consecutive win at the Jungledrom to kick off NSCF 28

RATZUPALFU, SOUTH NEWLANDIA- Northern Moravica traveled to Ratzupalfu, on Friday night, to kick off the college football season. As tends to happen at the Jungledrom, the game was played in a rainstorm- it started pouring before kickoff, and quite literally, never stopped. So the game was never going to be about airing it out- it was going to be about which team, between the Egrets and the Cougars, was tougher and better prepared to weather the storm. Kasozi Wampona, a Banijan, of course, is starting his first ever game as a true freshman for the Egrets. Trial by water, eh?

While Dwayne Markseon hit a 44 yarder for the Cougars, the first quarter was defined by one big play. Kasozi Wampona throwing a slant to Jeremy Jefferson- and then the senior WR breaking a couple of tackles. What should have been a 7 yard slant on 3rd and 3 for a first down, ended up being a 44 yard catch and run, that brought the Egrets down to the 13 yard line. Just a couple of plays later, Ayana was punching the ball into the end zone from just two yards out. That gave the Egrets their first lead of the game, a 7-3 lead that they'd end the first quarter with.

The Cougars, mostly through running the ball, were able to embark on a long drive after that, to try and get in scoring position. They've got Amira Kong and Balinda Kisero in the backfield as thunder and lightning- and they were everything on that drive. Again, the constant rain made things tough on the passing, especially Strom. But it meant when the Cougars got to a first goal at the 3 yard line, we became predictable. First and goal- a fade to Jannik Nadine, that was underthrown because of Strom's poor grip on the football. 2nd down- Kong for no gain. Third down- a screen to Kisero for no gain. Cougars forced to kick, to make it 10-6.

The Cougars would end the half on a good note, with an Abigail Washington INT setting up a 51 yard FG for Markseon as time expired. 10-9 at half, in favor of Ratzupalfu. The passing game continued to struggle for both teams, with Strom throwing a 3rd quarter pick. Both teams traded field goals in the 3rd quarter, with the Egrets taking a 13-12 lead into Q4. But that's when the Cougars started to assert themselves. An excellent fourth quarter punt return allowed the Cougars to start a drive at the Egrets 34, and we took advantage of it. Three minutes after that, it was Kong scoring from 8 yards out, for the Cougars to take a 19-13 lead with 10 minutes left in regulation.

It would be our defense that would step up. Wampona actually led a great drive- showing a lot of poise for a true freshman. But he's young. They got into the red zone, but pressure from Okoth Yienya forced an overthrow, that was picked off by Malcolm Shelvin at the goal line. And then, on the Egrets next possesion, SS Bojana Rasic Kim forced a fumble at midfield, recovered by Zelotes Aero. A 41 yard TD run by Balinda Kisero killed the game. 26-13 final score for the Cougars- in a tight game where they simply dominated the fourth quarter, on both sides of the football(2 TDs and 2 forced turnovers). They will come back to South Newlandia for week 2, to take on Elephant Valley.

4th quarter, 8:55 on the clock

It’d be Totte Lindberg jumping on the Ironpeak passer’s back for a 3rd down sack to end their drive and hold the 17-3 lead late. The Vanorian strong safety held up a raised fist to signal fourth down, and Rylan Rodgers began to strap up in anticipation of the next drive.

“Rylan, you’re done for the day!” Offensive coordinator Ulrich Ray barked, “Merik, you’re in!”

Rylan grinned and shot his coach a thumbs up, then sat back down on the bench and leaned his head back over it, locking eyes with the towering Chromatik freshman. “You’re up Big Benji! Show ‘em what you’ve got!”

Merik visibly flinched and left his helmet half on as he went to respond, “Benjamin, Rylan. It’s Benjamin.”

“I like Benji better,” Rylan shoo’d him onto the field, “Have fun big guy!”

Merik grumbled something under his breath as he ran out onto the field with the rest of the second stringers, and Isaiah Hunter winced next to Rylan, grabbing and rolling his right shoulder.

The back looked at him, concerned, “Uh, you good bud? That arm of yours is kinda important to our championship hopes.”

Isaiah let out an exaggerated groan, contorting his face in faux pain, “Man, I had to throw eleven times today, and here I thought we were a run first team.”

His face broke out into a grin- he couldn’t hold it any longer, and Rylan snorted as well, “Yeah man, really had to carry the load in this one, didn’t ya?”

Like They Never Left:
Richardson Defense Welcomes Ironpeak To the NSCF With Suffocating Performance

Image
The Governor defense rallies around Packard Goss after he snags an interception

Throw them into the water and see if they can swim, right? Ironpeak Institute had the unfortunate privilege of their NSCF debut coming against the reigning champions, and their lack of experience at this level was evident from the opening snap in a game that saw Richardson force as many turnovers than they allowed points.

“Talented team,” Kasen Harrowitz said after the game, “They’ll need some time to get acclimated to NSCF competition though. We were fortunate to play our road game against them in their first outing.”

When the Governors got the ball first, they seemed to make it a point to answer the off-season questions about Rylan Rodgers Jr’s ability to carry the load over the course of a season, delegating their offense to his running on each of the drive’s six plays - he didn’t disappoint, barreling through a pair of hapless defensive backs to cap off a 75 yard drive and earning Richardson’s first touchdown of the new campaign. If that drive was anything to go off of, the media darling had taken a huge step from last season.

Where in NSCF 27, he was largely a change of pace guy who could occasionally inject a spark into this offense before being called up to start in week 13, the Richardson offense never got to second down on the season’s opening drive. Rylan routinely broke tackles, either by making fellow collegiate athletes look foolish with his feet or going straight through them. If you’re looking for a superstar on this offense, he made himself pretty hard to miss.

But of course, the Governor defense is always going to be the highlight of this team. Harrowitz’s prized unit has lost a lot the past couple of years, especially at its important position. Namely, NSCF 26 DPOY Gideon Kearse and NSCF 27 MOP Kasper Ulvestad. Without the spearheads of this team, many questioned whether or not they’d have the teeth to maintain such historic dominance.

That question won’t be answered until this team is truly tested, but for now at least they’ve shown their teeth. Delaclav sophomore edge rusher Shean Eckert recorded a sack in his first career start, and Malchiel Lukiwiya proved to be a force in the run game with a triad of run stuffs. The big defensive tackle is at least the best player on this front, and of course, the secondary is up to snuff. Totte Lindberg was all over the field with five tackles and a sack while Takeuchi Ichiko made the Invaders pay on their two targets his way with an interception. Packard Goss would add another pick in his start, while Malchiel Lukiwiya forced a fumble as well, all with the Invaders in the red zone.

By midway through the fourth quarter, the game was over at 17-3. The starters were pulled for the second string crew after Isaiah Hunter tossed just eleven passes, and we got a good look at big Benjamin Merik at running back. He actually ended up leading the team in carries on the day with 20 to Rylan’s 19, having spelled him earlier in the contest, and showcased the wicked stiff arm that you’d expect from a man with his length. The Governors tacked on field goals on two more drives as they cruised to an opening day win, and their seventh straight overall.

One story that might be developing though is the kicking situation. The Governors’ kicker did well overall, 2/2 of PATs and 3/4 on field goals, but the miss came on a chip shot in the second quarter. The team may have made a mistake leaning on a Ranorian leg here, it’ll be interesting to see if it comes back to bite them later against tougher competition.

Cold Start For Cold Hill’s Engine, But Benoit Kicks Into Gear To Pull Out A Win

Image
Benoit Youngblood looking to pass early in the opener

There was a lot of hype around this game - a 12-1 Cold Hill team coming off a semifinal run, with a returning quarterback who'd just posted the first five thousand yard passing season in Cold Hill's NSCF history? It was practically scoring bait. Unfortunately, the swaths of bettors who took the over are currently trying to explain to their wives that "it was a sure thing!"

It was interesting to see - as great as Cold Hill's offensive line is in pass protection, it appears that Alexander Østby made them look good as a running back last year. Their starter this season, D'andre Fuller, finished the game with 16 carries for 39 yards at an atrocious 2.4 yards per carry. Effectively, they were all wasted snaps, as his long on the day was a five yarder. It also appears that the loss of last year's WR1 Nikolas Isaksen - who went on to win OROY in the RFL - may be felt more than we initially realized. With both the reliable Darin Sundström and Youngblood's favorite target in Kasozi Batte returning, one would think this offense wouldn't go through the hiccups it did early in NSCF 27 before getting into their sprint. (Cold Hill scored 59 points combined in their first three games in NSCF 27)

It was such a slow start, in fact, that Eastern Ploska University actually held a 17-13 lead going into Cold Hill's final drive as this offense just could not get into sync, relying on their defense to play a brand of football they weren't used to. Fortunately, they stepped up - senior Kenneth Bray notched his second sack of the game to force a punt and give his team a chance at winning it all. Low-scoring or not, there isn't a player on this team that doesn't trust the man they run out under center.

Youngblood came out after a brief talk with Batte, whom he'd shown incredible chemistry with last season. The receiver had been limited to one catch for six yards so far in a performance so far that this scoring unit would like to forget. But just like early in NSCF 27, Youngblood lives for the big moments. If he stumbles early, he'll make up for it with his finish.

The Quebecois second-year starter never even looked away from his primary read on the first play, lofting a "screw it, he's down there somewhere" ball the way of none other than Kasozi Batte. Its path had such a severe arc to it that its path mimicked that of a rainbow, and it fell beautifully into Batte's outstretched arms. The physically outmatched corner who'd been trailing him was shrugged off with ease, but it gave the defense just enough time to rally around the phenom and knock him out of bounds.

36 yards - not a terrible way to remind the offense that they were, in fact, one of the better units in college football.

Youngblood had solid protection on the next play, but when Eastern Ploska dropped eight men into coverage it made the windows tight. He stepped up into the pocket to give his boys some more time, and it was the veteran Darin Sundström who'd find a hole in the zones for him to hit. The Vanorian was always an explosive player, but he'd displayed the most reliable set of hands on the team last season, and with how many routes he'd run now in his tenure, he was one of the savvier skill position players on the field no matter who they were playing. He was carrying the load today as the team's leading receiver - Batte only had his aforementioned two catches and true freshman Enox Silverman hadn't reeled one in yet.

Two more passes made it two more first downs. Youngblood glanced up at the clock - three minutes left - as much as he'd love to milk the clock, they needed a touchdown here, and their defense had played well all game.

His first shot went right to the end zone, batted away just as it hit junior Jules Tille's hands to force second down.

Youngblood glanced to the sideline to take the play, and evaluated his options. Clocking in at six foot six, junior tight end Tony Fuller was an excellent red zone target on paper, but he'd already dropped two balls here in his first career start. Darin Sundström, 5'10" or not, was always a good call. Oh right and Kasozi Batte, can't forget about that freak.

But then he looked to Enox Silverman. He had struggled to create separation in this opener and Benoit had only thrown his way once, an incompletion. But what freshman doesn't want their first career catch to go for six? The guy hadn't made a peep about his lack of targets. Benoit liked that.

He took the snap, saw the blitz, and floated over the middle where Silverman was running a slant. A cornerback behind him, a linebacker in front of him, but Youngblood dropped it right over the 6'7" wideout's head - it almost wasn't fair.

The wideout who'd been uber-productive in high school caught it overhead and flashed Benoit a grin for about as much of a celebration as you'll get out of any Chromatik player, and their defense held firm in maintaining the lead by forcing a perhaps ill-advised 56 yard field goal that never remotely had a chance to make it through the uprights.

Not the prettiest win, sure, but neither was Richardson's championship - the Buffalo would certainly like to run smooth on offense sooner than they did last season, but as long as they're winning, you won't see Chris Dale complaining.

The 2022 NSCF season has started with a bang as QB Seamus O'Connell led the University of Frisdrank Bulls to a 7-point victory over the Flosfores-Sea Catarina University Stallions. The game took place at Coco-Zelda Arena, with around 32,300 Treylandians and Uvalorians alike attending the first game of their respective teams' seasons.

The game-winning touchdown was scored by RB Koen van der Meer. In an interview, he said, "I can't believe it was me who helped win the first NSCF game in our team's history. I look forward to what the season brings."

Now, with the Bulls against the Shadow Walkers, will the season bring good tidings and smooth sailing?

INTERVIEW WITH ISTVAN TOTH: WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE BULLS?

Student reporter Michael de Jong interviewed Bulls head coach Istvan Toth, and this is what he had to say:

de Jong: Welcome, Mr. Toth. Thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Toth: You're welcome, the pleasure is all mine.

de Jong: First question: how did you feel about winning your debut game?

Toth: It was a feeling of happiness, wonder, and confidence all at once. I train these boys hard, and they went out and delivered.

de Jong: With Game Two on the horizon, is that training regimen going to change at all?

Toth: We may have to work on our kicking, as Bela Kiss missed a couple of PATs during the game. But other than that, everything is a-ok.

de Jong: Yes, I know some of the Bulls fans would like to be able to score some points. That's all the time we have. Thank you again.

University of Frisdrank, Coco-Zelda Arena
2 hours before kickoff

"van Dijk! How's that catching going?" said Marton de Jong, the wide receiver coach.

"Good, Coach!" replied WR Daan van Dijk, catching a ball thrown by Seamus O'Connor.

"Lanford! Fekete! Nagy! Come over here!" beckoned Thijs O'Reilly, the linebacker coach. "Your job is to make sure van Dijk over there doesn't get a single catch."

"Got it!"
"Sure!"

"Kiss! How's that kicking coming along?" barked István Tóth, Bulls head coach.

"I've made 9 out of 15 PATs, so I'd say I'm doing good!" exclaimed Bela Kiss, starting kicker.

"Good? Your backup Timo's made 14 out of 15! Barely any mistakes! We might have to bench you unless your performance gets better!"

"Yes, coach," Bela replied sadly.

"You think we're gonna do good?" de Jong asked Toth.

"We're gonna win that game, or my name's not István Janos Tóth."

Red Elephant Numbers of Week 1

0 – Number of Road wins until now for the Red Elephants in Banija. Seven of the eight losses came by double digits.
1 – Career wins on Banijan turf for EVU freshman starter Rico Divalles – as previously mentioned, his predecessor, Jacob Herron, went 0-8 here.
14 – Yards that Blue Thunder WR1 Marcel Schlachter was held to, with two catches on five targets, also an interception. Vanorian corner Mustafa Engström had a field day especially, allowing no catches when covering Schlachter, as well as taking the aforementioned interception to the house.
138 – Total yards for Gabriel Yafet, EVU WR1, including a 56-yard TD reception in the second quarter after taking a slant to the house.
3 – Turnovers committed by the Blue Thunder, while EVU didn’t have one. After an early, rare Manne Nordström fumble, came the previously mentioned pick six for Engström after Schlachter tipped the ball up, and a late-game pick when the Blue Thunder were down two scores with under two minutes.
3 (again) – total points allowed by EVU in the second half. After trailing 11-17 at the halfway mark, the Red Elephants only allowed a chip shot field goal in the half, otherwise keeping the high-powered Blue Thunder in check. For the young unit starting six freshmen, this is a huge accomplishment.
4 – total dropped passes by ULI wideouts, two of them coming on drive-killing third downs.
72 – percent possession for EVU in the second half, as Running Back Nancy Franco converted three crucial fourth quarter third downs late by herself, and ultimately scored two touchdowns to turn the game around.
1 (also again) – number of wins for both teams now, entering a week 2 Sally Trophy matchup.
0 (again) – percentage chance that this performance is replicable.

ULI 7 10 3 0 20
EVU 3 8 14 7 32

The Night After 47-0 Win

"...so I say to that bitch—"

"Which one?"

"Amanda."

"Dude..."

"I know."

"Who was it this time?"

"Some fucking lacrosse player. I'ma find out who and bash his head in." Santiago Correa, a Zorrillo wide receiver (two touchdowns), poured more ice in his bath.

"Careful, man."

"Eh, shut up. I'm sore."

"You had a good game."

"Yeah, you too. Two touchdowns?"

"One," replied Lincoln Ramos, the Zorrillo tailback (one touchdown).

"Next time."

"Yeah."

"It was a good one though?"

"Eleven yards. Slipped through an opening in the D-line and there was nothing but blue sky."

The two sat in silence and darkness, nursing their bruises.

"Weather was a bitch."

"Shit, man. What's up with that?"

A long time passed. Ramos's ice melted, but the water was still to cold to add more. At some point, the HVAC turned on. Nothing happened for a while — then, a person clambered down the steps to the basement. The door clanged open — César Del Rey flipped on the lights. On the winces of his teammates, he turned them back off quickly.

"Sorry."

"César! Dude!"

"MVP! MVP!"
Del Rey grinned cornily. "I just got out. I was trying to speak with Madrid about my routes, but that analyst guy was talking with him forever. I even pulled up a chair." César dragged over a tub of lukewarm water and hopped in. He opened up a bag of ice.

"What do you need to go over routes for, man? You played like a maniac!"

"You played like a monster!"

"Dimes! Dimes!"

"I swear I saw the ball fucking curl in midair!"

"And you ran, too! You scrambled for, like, a hundred-twenty yards!"

"You rushed more than me."

"Oye, that's bullshit. No way I ran a hundred-twenty yards."

"I swear on my life, dude!"

"Two rushing touchdowns!"

"Two throwing touchdowns!"

"A two-point conversion!"

"The only thing you didn't do was kick a field goal!"

"Man, we whupped them so bad..."

"Didn't you force a fumble, too?"

"Yeah! On that play where, um, Lincoln dropped it..."

"Sorry."

"You tackled the linebacker!"

César submerged all but his grinning face in the water. "This way I don't have to hear you."

"Forty-seven-zero!"

"Blowout!"

Del Rey shook his head. They sat quietly for a bit. Eventually: "What's going on with you guys?"

"Sandy broke up with Amanda again."

"Which one is she?"

"Short. Blonde."

"Annoying. Insufferable."

"Oh." César sat up. "Dude, didn't you break up with her before?"

"We're done for real this time."

Lincoln Ramos gave César a disbelieving look.

"How are you going to be done with her?" Del Rey chuckled. "You guys signed up for all the same classes together."

Correa paused. "It happened again. Lacrosse dude, ugh. I'm gonna find his ass and—"

"Sandy," corrected Lincoln. "Constructive thoughts. That's a destructive thought."

Correa exhaled. "Whatever, man. Now I can focus on Jenny."

"And Maria."

"And the other Maria."

"And Cristina..."

"Tatiana. Emilia. Jasmine."

"Bianca Pinto."

"No, he dumped Bianca Pinto. Juanita..."

"I think that's all of them."

"Maybe we missed one."

Correa stood up in his bathtub abruptly. "I hate both of you. Go to hell." He started drying off.

"Oh, c'mon man! Don't leave!"

"I'm cold."

"Wimp."

"I'll see you in an hour."

"Yo, we're going out to dinner, right?"

"Yeah," said Correa. "You, César, me, Grubbs, Dario, and probably Yander."

Lincoln got out of the bath. "Now I gotta go take a shower. Wash off the cold."

"That is definitely not how it works."

Ramos and Correa started to walk out the door. "It is! I don't want my muscles to freeze, man, like one of the wrestlers, did you hear that story? Oh, let me..."

They left Del Rey in silence. He reached for the remote to the TV mounted on the wall, and flipped on film of his game, watching with the volume muted for a while.

"Hey, that ball did curl."

Firehawks Squeak Past Skyhawks Despite Odika Struggles

Team 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q | Tot
Felswyr State Univeristy Firehawks 0 7 3 10 | 20
Sadeg State University Skyhawks 7 7 3 0 | 17

2nd Quarter

02:12 FSU TD - Sydney Thomas 2 yard run (Ivan Homer Kick)

3rd Quarter
11:20 FSU FG - Ivan Homer 41 yard Field Goal

4th Quarter
09:22 FSU FG - Ivan Homer 48 yard Field Goal
01:29 FSU TD - Nero Ramsey 3 yard run (Ivan Homer Kick)

SKYHAWKS' GRIDIRON PARK, SADEG, DRAWKLAND - Whenever these two teams play, it's almost always a close, hard fought battle; this time was no exception. When Sadeg State Cornerback Danube Jackson III jumped a ball meant for Essa Kayode and returned it for the first points in the game, it was very easy to see the frustration on Kadesh Odika's face - and the Banijan Junior had one of his worst games as a Firehawk, only completing 14 of his 31 passes for 142 yards and two interceptions in the game.

Felswyr State were lucky to only be down 14-0 midway through the Second Quarter, with their defense forcing two three and outs. Then, Offensive Coordinator Naia Curentino started to ride the hot horse - who, for this game, was Sydney Thomas, the Running Back. Thomas ran the ball 11 times for 72 yards in the first half alone, using the size and the tandem blocking of the Firehawks' offensive line. He completed the drive with a two-yard plunge to keep the deficit at seven entering halftime.

Odika did play considerably better in the second half - he didn't turn the ball over, and did find targets like Kayode, Cartier, and Ramsey - but it was the ground game and the defense that kept the Firehawks within striking distance. Ivan Homer, in his first game as the Firehawks' new kicker, hit both of his field goals in between forty and fifty yards - a good sign for things to come.

Despite all the struggles that Odika had had all game, there was still no doubt in Curentino's mind when the Firehawks got the ball back with four minutes to go. Odika completed a great pass to Tight End Ulrich Jefferson in between runs by Thomas, and the Firehawks marched down the field. With a chance to win the game, needing all seven points, Curentino threw in a bit of trickery, handing the ball off to Nero Ramsey on an end-around that resulted in the Ranorian Wide Receiver's first touchdown as a Firehawk.

"It was a game to truly test our resilience," admitted Odika after the game, "They (the Skyhawks) were giving me a hard time, and I was lucky enough that my teammates were here to pick up the slack. What a game by Syd, by our defense, and by the new kid Ramsey."

Felswyr State will remain in Drawkland for the next week, getting to face Cavsar before returning home to host the first leg of the Battle for the Eternal Flame.
Duhaga, Ziegler Shine as Lava Run Roughshod over Gladiators

07:11 STU Safety - Lee Bo-Mi tackle in end zone

2nd Quarter
11:41 STU TD - Gabriele Ziegler 66 yard pass from Haruno Masakazu (James Dior Kick)
07:18 CU TD - Daniel Beckett 41 yard pass from Logan Oakley (Sylvan Magee pass from Logan Oakley)

11:21 STU TD - Isaga Duhaga 21 yard run (James Dior Kick)
07:42 STU TD - Gabriele Ziegler 29 yard pass from Haruno Masakazu (James Dior Kick)
03:50 STU TD - Jacoby Grinner 8 yard pass from Haruno Masakazu (James Dior Kick)

4th Quarter
05:19 STU FG - James Dior 50 yard Field Goal

JOHNSTON MEMORIAL STADIUM, STARAMARA, URRHED ISLAND, CHROMATIKA - A season after losing in heartbreaking fashion in the NSCF Championship game, the Staramara Tech University Lava started their fourth season in the NSCF ranks with a 43-24 victory over Cavsar University that showed that, though this team is different than teams of the past, the Lava are a team still to be feared. Yes, with the likes of Mastaya Vorpen and other Seniors on their defensive secondary, the Lava didn't allow a single receiver to catch the ball for over 100 yards last season - and Daniel Beckett got 93 yards and two touchdowns in two receptions alone. Yes, Logan Oakley was allowed to throw for over 300 yards, and Cavsar moved up and down the field at will for stretches of the game. These are troublesome for a team that pride themselves on defense, and they are aware of that.

However, where Staramara Tech is not lacking is production from their running backs. Gabriele Ziegler the Senior had 131 yards received in 7 passes from the backfield, including two touchdowns, while Isaga Duhaga, the Sophomore bruising back, had 141 yards in 15 carries, along with two touchdowns of his own. It is this one-two punch that the Lava will rely on to knock out the opposition, and the trust that Haruno Masakazu has built with both of them is something else to behold.

In the Third Quarter, after Cavsar had taken a 24-19 lead, Staramara Tech scored, took the ball away, scored, took the ball away again (thank you, Special Teams), and then scored one more time - all in a span of seven minutes and thirty-one seconds that changed the fundamentals of the game.

So far in their history in the NSCF, the Lava have established themselves as a defensive name; is it about time that other teams start respecting their offensive firepower, as well?

Staramara Tech will try to make it two-for-two in hosting Drawkian schools, facing Sadeg State, before traveling to Felswyr for the first leg of the Battle for the Eternal Flame.

News of Atheron's victory spread across Althion like wildfire, renewing a spark of hope among a battered and desperate people beset by the demonic horde. HIs victory not only was a shot in the arm for the hope and morale of the elves as a whole, but it called many to his camp at the Temple of Amanrythe, including several powerful mages. Chief among those magi was Kelembor who was considered the greatest mage of the age, most notably for his talent at taming the dragons across the continent. Kelembor swore his allegiance to Atheron and promised to help the new leader in any capacity that he could. Together the pair began to not just outfit the populace with weapons of war, but also began to instruct them in ways of combating the demonic armies. The great forges where quickly put to use and the strongest steel that the elves could get their hands on were being funneled to them and the craftsmiths who would outfit them in armor and weapons capable of defeating the demons. Kelembor turned his attention to his fellow mages, teaching them a variety of spells, including spells Kelembor believed were capable of banishing the demons back to where they came from.

Like a whirlwind, the elves descended from their mountainous retreat, with even a force of powerful dragon riders clad in the new armor at their call. They collapsed upon a force of rampaging mutant creatures who had been corrupted by the demons upon their arrival, looking to be some twisted distortion between man and beast. These weird creatures seemed to be flying the same banners of the demonic hordes who had corrupted them in the first place, the four distinct wicked banners among those that the elves collected when they routed the army from the field with their newly trained and armored force. Like a tidal wave, the forces of Atheron and Kelembor swept over the land of Althion, Atheron forging his army like a bowyer would craft their bow. Clad in the best armor that the smiths had crafted, he rode into battle upon Inladriam, the eldest of the tamed dragons, and forged the army ahead into their foes, the tip of the spear for every battle that the assembled forces would come up against. Dozens, perhaps even hundreds of dragons both riderless and with rider were at their side as the momentum gather, the skies themselves declaring war upon those who defiled Althion.

Their victories came thick and fast, swelling the numbers of their forces with the news of each new triumph against the armies that were plaguing the land. This resistance however would not go unnoticed by those who were the guiding hand of the armors, with the demonlord Che'kar bringing their forces to Elysium where Atheron and Kelembor had last been spotted. The two forces clashed shortly after, the now battle tested elven army on par with the demons who had so easily bested them in their initial invasion. During the thick of the fighting, Atheron found Che'kar at the back of their lines and landed with Inladriam to do battle with the demonlord. Che'kar was no easy foe and managed to knock Atheron out of his saddle and onto the ground, yet in the melee that would ensue, Atheron would get the better of the demon and plunge his spear deep into the demon. While it was not possible to truly kill the demonlord, the blow managed to banish them from the mortal plane for some time. Like the forces at the temple, once the demon army realized their commander had been slain, they began a full scale retreat, only this time cavalry and dragon riders were chasing them down and off the field.

The pair would continue to sweep across Althion, banishing another demonlord in the lands of Chrisian, once more routing an army that once their commander was defeated. The two concluded that these commanders were more than just their leaders, that they had some sort of sway over the forces they were in control of in some other way, though it was not obvious the how or why. Tirelessly they pressed forward, managing to arrive in time in one of the many sacred groves, where the flora and fauna were about to be corrupted by another one of these demonlords by Atheron managed to defeat the would be corrupter before their goals could be accomplished. At long last, the last of the demonlords and their forces were found, and it was turned into a field of fire as dragonfire roasted the forces so that they could not use their toxic weapons against the infantry. When the final demonlord was banished by the combined fires of dozens of dragons, the elves believed that they had managed to find peace once more.
