Can't say I support unilateral solutions to Soviet-era border conflicts. There should be international processes to discuss fair and equitable solutions in territories in which the recognized international borders have never existed, especially as it relates to the collapse of the Soviet Union, many of the unrecognized States, especially in the caucuses like South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Artsakh, have legitimate fears of genocide if the "occupation" ends.

They weren't being genocided before and the rhetoric from politicians and soldiers is not blaming Russians as an ethnicity. There are no legitimate fears of genocide from the Ukrainians. There are from the RF.

Also, there was an international process. It occurred in 1991 and throughout the 90s. Russia and everyone recognized the borders of the post-soviet republics. The only one who has gone back on those borders is the RF.

EDIT: Those 3 territories may have some fear, though. I mistook South Ossetia for Odessa for some reason. Blame my 2:16 AM brain.

The process of recognizing the borders drawn by Stalin without consultation of the actual populations led to Russians committing genocide in Chechnya and ethnic cleansing in every country in the Caucuses. It has been a failure of international relations.
