Roster comments: Under the guidance of Juven Roberto De Casio, brother of the "disappeared" Mauro De Casio, la nazionale proved itself to be a tough team to crack in the Independents Cup 17, getting victories over more experienced Elmyia and Eerinphektia, while giving both rivals Juvencus and Belnegau a run for their money. Despite finishing 3rd, tough luck struck the team as they were on the unfortunate side of a 3-way coinflip to see who would qualify to the round of 24, which saw Oscioru eliminated from the tournament, sparking outrage across the nation. With that in mind, De Casio is keeping the same squad as the talent is still there and a general sense of balance between young and old is what is considered necessary for the growth of the team.

Leora's place of birth is noted as Cerrston, when in fact she was born on one of the ships carrying Bostopians to their new home in the Ochres. That it happened to dock in Cerrston, where her family settled, was just luck. Her parents chose a new surname after watching their child take her first furtitive steps outside, wanting to ditch their old Bostopian name. While there is some doubts over her ability to play as an international goalkeeper, her ability to read the game makes up for a lack of height (comparative to other top-flight goalkeepers at least) and fans joke that it seems she knows where the ball will go before the striker does.

The youngest member of the squad, only just turning 16 in time for the first qualifying game, Harry Sandman is the first player in any Ochre national squad to be born on Chaffinch Island. Adopting his surname from his love of running on the beach, he tends to be more of a sweeper than a proper centre half, being able to quickly take care of opponents passes into the box before they cause too much harm. His pace and stamina also allows him to play as a makeshift right wing-back, but his crosses come across as clearances more often than not.

Featherborn currently plies her trade at right-back for Schemerdrecht SVV, having left her hometown team Louisa Hope F.C. for the Ko-oren side. Complaints from journalists that she could have gone to a team 'easier to spell quickly' exist though are simply batted away as 'whinging'. Pacy and versatile, she is more likely to try and beat her opponent with the ball at her feet rather than pass around them. She already displays a range of passing that could see her propelled into the midfield, whether on the wing or in the middle should her development continue at the pace it is.

Whilst still largely bench-warming for Valesthorpe, the national team can see his promise and are taking him to CAFA3 in the hopes of giving him international experience in low-pressure situations.

Blue Gibson is the first Bostopian-born female player to ever represent her country in an international football tournament. Whilst there have been female managers of the Bostopian national team, Blue was seen as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' footballing talent that the OIFA could find no reason, legally or otherwise, to exclude her from the national team. It was her second goal of the CAFA final which had sealed the Ochres 3 – 1 win over Saltstead with 3 minutes remaining of the 90. Blue also scored the winning goal to send the Ochre Islands to the World Cup finals for the first time.

Copse Clearedway was born in Callais, which is on one of the smaller Ochre Islands of Jensee. He is first-choice striker for Slipsway Town, a mid-table side in the first division of domestic Ochre football. However for the Ochre national team, he is more likely to be played in the hole between attack and midfielder to give us a significant threat just outside the area, as well as knowing where a striker would want a ball playing to them.

Despite playing for a smaller Ochre side, sitting in the 4th tier of the football league, C.J. has excelled and proven himself at a high level thanks to helpful cup draws against much better teams projecting his abilities on the national stage. While football at the lower levels is a bit more rough and ready than the higher divisions, he has always been able to hold his own against strong defenders despite his young age, and their willingness to let him know they're there.

Home, Away and Third

The Ochre Islands kits were designed and manufactured by OchreSport, with input from the Ochre Islands Football Association.
Following the abysmal CAFA3 campaign, the home kit removes all gold references and goes back to the traditional striped ochre and blue ochre scheme, with white trim.
The away kit is a contiuation of the popular 'Anaiaway' theme promoted by the OIFA, which they say 'promotes peace & harmony and reminds us that whilst we may be in an away kit, the Anaia region is still our home'.
The third kit is a colour combination of the two ochre colours, resulting in an earthy brown colour reminiscent of some of the home soil players and fans may tend to in their spare time.

Before CAFA 2, the Ochre Islands Football Association ran a competition to design the team's logo, which was won by a 34 year old man with neither design experience or taste. Fortunately, an update of the design to account for taste was commissioned and outsourced by the OIFA, which is as below. The badge prominently features a 'little mint green hat', which actually commerorates the Ochre Islands victory in the second CAFA tournament.

The Ochre Islands play a possession-based style of football which aims to prevent the opposition from scoring by simply not letting them have the ball. While we will prefer safer passes, the players generally have a good sense of when a chance is 'on' and will play balls with added risk involved where necessary.

The Stade national de la montagne de l'ours has been build specifically for international matches. Île de Richelieu's population is 928, so, with a capacity of 11,569, a little more than 10,000 foreign football fans can attend the games!

The stadium has 3 stands. East Side stand, West Side stand and North Endline Stand. There is a small VIP stand on the south endline and the pressbox is located on the south endline as well. The stadium has lights on the four corners so evening games can be played. The stadium doesn't have a video board, nor a scoreboard.

The city have a few upscale restaurants along with fast food restaurants and some local pubs. Beer is largely consumed on the island and Richelois likes to get around at the local pub after work.

The island only have one hotel and it may cause a problem if 10,000 football fans are coming. The only hotel on the island is a 124 room SpringHill Suites by Marriott located in the old Port Saint-Jean and half of hotel will be reserved for the visiting team (players, staff and media) who will have 50 rooms at their disposal. The remaining rooms (74) will be sold at a high price for football fans. The island also has a dozen of guesthouses that ranges from 1 to 8 rooms each. Football fans will have to bring their tents and sleeping bags and camp on the outskirts of the town!

île de Richelieu has a hyperoceanic polar climate with a Köppen classification of ET (polar with tundra), sometimes reckoned as EM (maritime polar). Seasonal temperature variations are extremely small considering the latitude of the island, with ranges from around 6 °C (43 °F) in July/August to −4 °C (25 °F) in February/March. The highest recorded temperature in the summer was 18.1 °C (64.6 °F) in june and the lowest recorded temperature was -28.4 °C (-19.1 °F) in february. Being located inside the arctic circle, île de Richelieu experiences sun light almost all day long in the summer and darkness almost all day long in the winter.

Overview

Sendhang or Federation of Sendhang is a landlocked nation located in Mandalanusa on the Melayu Mainland. It has a land border with Acastanha, Kayangan, Springmont, Havynwilde, Bachok, and Samudera Darussalam. Sendhang consists of a federal territory and 4 states namely Lemah Banyu, Alamsunda, Putrasia, and Nainhá.

PS3 is headquartered at PS3 Complex in Kambang, the capital city of Sendhang. The complex is located in an area of 55 hectares in the southern part of the Capital Region of Kambang.

It is equipped with the 40,000 seaters national stadium, the Federal Stadium or locally known as Stadium Persekutuan, an older 20,000 seaters stadium, the Unity Stadium or locally known as Stadium Perpaduan, an office block, an accommodation block, a gymnasium, and 3 training pitches.

When PS3 was formed, the facilities were immediately transferred to the new football governing body. The facilities were managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports before PS3 was formed.

The Federal Stadium is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium and the home ground of the Sendhang national football team. The Federal Stadium has a capacity of 40,000 making it the largest football stadium in Sendhang. All Sendhang home matches will be held at the Federal Stadium.

Head Coach: Teuku Irfan

Teuku Irfan was officially appointed as the head coach of the national team prior to the 82nd Cup of Harmony after leading Sendhang to 5 wins, a draw, and a defeat in his 7 matches as the caretaker coach in the 90th World Cup qualifiers after Teuku Syarkawi was sacked. He is a graduate of sports science from the Universiti Sendhang and this is his first job as a head coach.

Irfan started his career with KS Tapaklaboh as the assistant to Teuku Syarkawi. He was brought to the national team setup 6 years ago after Teuku Syarkawi was appointed as the national team head coach.

Teuku Syarkawi is the former head coach of KS Tapaklaboh, the most successful club in Putrasia in the States League era before the introduction of Liga Super Sendhang. He was appointed as the first head coach of the Sendhang national team a week after PS3 was officially announced. It was an easy decision for the decision-makers in PS3 at that time as Syarkawi is a very highly-rated head coach among football enthusiasts in Sendhang, especially Putrasia.

He was sacked by PS3 from the head coach position after six consecutive winless runs in the first half of the 90th World Cup qualifiers but was later handpicked by Teuku Irfan to be the assistant head coach of the national team. He is a long-time friend of Irfan who was his assistant at KS Tapaklaboh and the national team. The two complement each other and have worked well together for years. Irfan will usually lead team training while Syarkawi spent most of his time monitoring the training from his office while analyzing data and formulating strategies.

Teuku Irfan is a defensive-minded counter-attacking coach. He prefers to play with a defensive midfielder to protect the back four and to start counter-attacks. This is accompanied by two quick wingers that will sit deep to help the defense when they don't have the ball and get in position to launch a counter-attack while in transition when they have just won the ball.

Irfan prefers his team to be very disciplined in defending. His team will sit deep and frustrate the opponent for 90 minutes if needed. He doesn't believe in possession football. He wants his team to be very direct and quick when attacking. As his mentor and current assistant manager said, "possession doesn't win games. Goal does. Pratapgadh National Football Team

Pratapgadh has finally returned to international football after the end of the 'Isolation Period'. The 'Isolation Period' was announced and put into effect by Rana (King) Bhagwant Singh I in 2026 due to a series of political conflicts and worsening relations between the eight states of Pratapgadh. The worst came in 2029 when the Gujarat state government demanded separation from the Rajput Maharajya (Rajput Greater Kingdom) and even took complete control of the police force. During this time, Pratapgadh refrained from all international sporting competitions. This also led to the stagnation of Indusse and Pratapgadh's alliance for a long time. It wasn't until 2031 that the situation started to die down. The ruling party during this time, Pratapgadh Janata Dal, was criticised and ridiculed for the mishandling of the crisis and for threatening the unity of the nation. In the 2032 General Elections, Sanyukt Rashtriya Dal or SRD defeated Pratapgadh Janata Dal and Amber Singh Sisodia became the Prime Minister of Pratapgadh. Finally, after six long years, the 'Isolation Period' ended and various national teams were finally allowed to compete in international tournaments.

However, by this time, most of our experienced players had already retired. Former captain Gautam Sakarkar, former vice-captain Jagdip Rajawat and Atashban Aaryamehr, who've played for Pratapgadh in the qualifiers for the 88th and 89th editions of the NS World Cup, are now coaching the new team. Many great talents like Chetan Dandekar and Purushottam Mahanta felt betrayed by the government once the 'Isolation Period' and retired in 2028 and 2030 respectively. Pratapgadh has also been dropped from the rankings due to missing three editions of the world cup. The best ranking we have ever achieved was 106, but our team's performance looked promising back in 2026.

Pratapgadh is starting its world cup journey from scratch again, however, it is much better prepared now. During the 'Isolation Period', the Pratapgadh Football Association took the pledge to protect and continue the growth of football in Pratapgadh despite not being able to send a team to international competitions. The PFA made heavy investments in their facilities and stadiums and organised a proper pyramid system. 2024 was the first year of the Pratapgadh Super Cup and was a huge success with the fans with Indraprastha FC winning the cup. In 2025 the Super Cup was renamed to Super League and two more leagues, Challenger League and Bronze League had their inaugural seasons. The Challenger league was the second-tier competition and the Bronze League was the third and bottom tier. The PFA began with having 33 teams in total back in 2025 and today that number has grown to 48 teams. The big difference between the Super Cup of 2024 and the 2025 football season was that all the teams of the 2024 Super Cup teams were brand new. Clubs like Chittorgarh United and Chittorgarh Capital Club were furious at the PFA for creating Chittorgarh FC (now Kumbha Warriors FC) for the Super Cup instead of giving the opportunities to more well-established clubs. PFA understood the criticism and decided to allow established clubs across Pratapgadh to register to compete in the league. Another great addition to football in Pratapgadh is The Memorial Cup with the first edition being held in 2025 with NJ Mumbai Atheltic Club winning the cup. The Memorial Cup is a tribute to the first national football team of Pratapgadh that perished in a plane crash in 2021. The addition of The Memorial Cup and the pyramid system has allowed the quality of football to grow exponentially and football today is more popular than ever in Pratapgadh.

So the state of football is much better today compared to how it was back in the qualifiers for NS World Cup 88. Back in that time, Pratapgadh was making a return to football after the horrific demise of their first national team and the popularity of football took a bad hit. The PFA is confident that our new national team will make a big impact in the qualifiers for the 93rd edition of the NS World Cup in 2034.

Chittorgarh National Stadium
The Chittorgarh National Stadium is the home venue of the Pratapgadh national football team which has a capacity of 35,000. It is located in the city of Chittorgarh in the state of Rajputana, built in the year 2005. It was the first football stadium ever built during the time when football was quite new to Pratapgadh. First introduced in 1992, football quickly reached the hearts of millions of Pratapgadhis and became quite a popular sport around 1998. So in early 2023, the government-owned PRT Constructions announced the construction of the Chittorgarh National Stadium. The construction of the stadium commenced in early 2004 and finished by mid-2005. This stadium became a big part of the Pratapgadhi football culture and Pratapgadhi football legends such as Jagdish Ambekar and Lankesh Talati played here.

This stadium is home to Chittorgarh United, a club established in 1957 which participates in the Super League (top tier league of Pratapgadh).

Ray Holland will forever be in the registry as our first ever player, and he’s been immense every single match. He stands tall at 6'3 and has perfected the ability of closing the angle to make him dominant within his box, while his strength, bravery, and vertical leap help him claim crosses and corners. What more could you want from your national team's starting goalkeeper? He's also tidy with his feet to help facilitate Cardenao’s possession based play but he’s not exactly capable of pinging precise 45 yard passes. He’s done as well as you could hope for a goalkeeper for a new nation going up against the best teams in the world, running with the national team since the 78th Baptism of Fire, but how much more he can go remains to be seen.

PRIMARY FORMATION AND PLAYSTYLE

The Blue and Golds are heading into the 93rd World Cup with a slight tactical tweak. In tournaments prior, Scooter McNash had his team line-up in a 4-3-3 with Diego Valenzeula sitting deep as a defensive midfielder. This edition sees D.V. start higher up the pitch next to Giampetro Vera, while Haritz Larrainzar has been thrust forward to be a playmaking midfielder behind the attacking trio. The change has been made to make the most of Larrainzar’s attacking output after his 14 goal 15 assist season fired his club side to the league title, while also helping link-up play with the dangerous Juanma Saez. Juanma is coming off a stellar campaign of his own, where he scored 26 and assisted 11, while there’s free-firing Chímo Ventura on the right wing eager to have a shot on goal.

Beyond that, the playstyle is expected to be the same. Loosely possession based in the sense it isn’t route one football, the Cardenao national team looks to quickly fire the ball along the ground up the pitch to try and will get settled in when they have possession in the attacking half. Players aren’t shy about trying a risky pass but will generally avoid taking low quality shots. All players have a generally high level of on the ball skill and this results in plenty of flashy play over the course of a match. Due to the fluid nature of the Cardenao attack, players will often interchange positions and move around the pitch, hoping to open up the defense with their movement.

Off the ball there is a distinct ‘Huayraball’ approach, where the team is tasked with pressing hard to win the ball back in the five seconds after losing possession before falling back into a more organized defense. This has the benefit of intense pressure to maximize ball-regainment rates before establishing the well-rounded protection of a traditional defensive scheme.

Jean-Alexandre's formation for this event will bring a mix of possession and counter-attacking style the polyvalent tactic can be adjusted easily to create favourable matchups on the field. Wingers can be asked to cross into the box or make runs at the opponents defense. When the team is out of possession or against tough opponents, the midfield can easily be clogged by bringing players back and cutting passing lanes. JAC used this tactic to great success in the past. It will now be time to see if it holds true against international competition.

Patriotlandia's attack will be spearhead by the Graham siblings. The brother and sister duo have both evolved into capable strikers. Lucien is better known for his size that he uses to overpower defenders while Heather has shown more poacher instincts by making runs and creating chances with her speed. The strikers will be flanked by Langlais and Rodin as wingers. The Union duo will play a bit further forward that they are used. Langlais will look to either cross or dribble his way in the box in order to setup a shot on goal. Rodin on the other hand will mostly stay wide.

At the attacking midfielder spot, Alexandre Desrives will be the corner stone of the offense, using his passing ability to create chances off the rush or control possession. The rest of the midfield will help both the attack and defence, both players are proven box-to-boxers in league play.

At the back, the two wide defenders will sometimes look to join the offense and overlap with the wingers to send numbers forwards. Bruno Vaillancourt is the most adept in this role and will no doubt pair well with Langlais skill. In the middle, centerbacks Bromont and Ranger will look to shut things down, but Bromont small stature could cause issues against taller opponents. In net, Paul Lataupe is the typical no nonsense keeper.

After the Baptism of Fire, a few additional reserve players were brought in to help share the workload. Among others, Glenn Wils and Samuelle Savoie-Smith were recalled from their overseas teams to join the squad in order to gain international experience.

Stadia
The Patriotlandia Soccer Partnership decided to host the World Cup home matches in the stadiums of the winners of the two previous Super 8 winners. Union Port-la-Ville's Navy Memorial Stadium will host the more prestigious opponents to accommodate a higher number of fans while other matches will be hosted in Athlétique Alexandrie's Parc du Nord.

Petro-Pat Navy Memorial Stadium
Capacity: 62,000
Built on the historical navy training grounds, Petro-Pat Navy Memorial Stadium is the crown jewel of the Super 8 league. Blending traditional and modern architectural cues, the stadium is impressive not only in size but beauty inside and out. The sixty-two thousand all seated capacity is also the highest of any stadium in the country. The stadium is located on the shores of Abelanne Bay by the old citadelle. Fans can also enjoy plenty of shops and restaurants on the way to the game with the Port-la-Ville city center only a few minutes away.

Parc du Nord
Capacity: 24,000
Renovated for their induction into the nation's top tier, Athlétique Alexandrie's Parc du Nord has a fairly standard stadium design but the venue's location in the city's green belt makes for an magnificent backdrop. Travelling fans can expect plenty of amenities in Alexandrie, a city of roughly 240,000. The main attraction is the national space center and observatory which hosts a great number of space, science and technology exhibits.

SYLESTONE NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

World Cup 89 Qualifiers

OVERVIEW

Located in the far east of Esportiva, Sylestone is an equatorial nation home to roughly 30 million residents and while the vast, vast majority are humans, Sentients and even a small cluster of elves live on specific areas of the island, which has a size of roughly 700,000 kilometres squared. For the very first time in the nation’s history, though, Mytanar football manager Mojmir Anac’s squad to the 34th Campionato Esportiva - marking the return of international football for Sylestone in over half a decade - was composed of both Sentients as well as humans. In ages past, managers would prefer to not mix the two races out of fear for how that would go and with the Sentient sides almost always receiving the opportunity to play in tournaments while the humans sat in front of their televisions and watches, the vast majority of the Sylestonean population began to become distressed about this obvious favouritism. In fact, aside from the one Campionato Esportiva in the Licentian Isles that saw the human side capitulate to one point from three matches, they never actually received an official go.

But upon the heralded return of Sylestone to football and football to Sylestone, the appointment of Mojmir Anac changed all of that. Although a match between a mixed XI against Quebec and Shingoryeo had occurred the year before as part of a friendly series containing some of the multiverse’s biggest names, the 34th Campionato Esportiva mere weeks ago marked the very first time the two races shared the same half of a football field. Despite a rather disappointing mini-cup between the Sentients, Evermark, Tikariot and Quebec and Shingoryeo in Chamberley that saw the hosts’ only points come in a 2-2 draw with Evermark, the trip to South Newlandia for the regional tournament was anything but. The Sentients’ only two losses came to eventual champions Tumbra - one on matchday one of the group stage and the other in the quarterfinal after a 117th-minute strike toppled the underdogs. Other than that, Mojmir Anac’s “fellas”, as he likes to call them, achieved three triumphs inside 90 minutes - including a record-breaking 8-2 thwacking of Macbon - as well as a victorious penalty shootout against Brenecia that sent the entire nation into raptures, as well as into that fateful quarterfinal against the Black Eagles.

With the first match of qualifying only just around the corner, confidence and expectations are high from players, staff and fans alike but as an unranked nation, they all know how easy it can be to be thumped back down to earth. They’ll just go out there, play their best (defensive) football, and see what happens. Such is the Sylestonean way.

MANAGER

Mojmir Anac (M, 38)
It might be his first hosting gig, but who else would you want other than Olympia Thessia and Mytanar legend Mojmir Anac, the king of defensive football coaching? Okay, that may be a bit of a stretch, but he’s certainly pretty good. As a centre-back himself, he is incredibly knowledgeable on the structure of defensive units, while he also likes a quick counter-attack, meaning that the Sentients will likely sit back and give up possession, just to press forward when their opponents are not expecting it. However, Anac’s main role will be to unify Sentients and humans together and actually like, you know, play good football together and not act as two separate teams like they’re used to playing as. So far, he’s done a pretty bloody good job of it, but this will remain his biggest test to date.

Throughout the Campionato Esportiva, one of Anac’s main issues seemed to be deciding which keeper to use between the Brick Wall and Georgina Fuller. Although he used the Sentient for the opening three games, the fourth time he used it - in that famous 8-2 win against Macbon to round out the group stage - two goals which really shouldn’t have been conceded were, although both were partially the defence’s fault as well. Despite that, the Brick Wall is still likely to be Anac’s first choice when it comes to the big games, while the rest are going to play second fiddle until one of them proves to be better than another. What Anac has confirmed, though, is that all four shot-stoppers will receive several opportunities to prove themselves throughout the 22-games qualifying and show why they deserve to either maintain their role or be higher up the pecking order.

After a successful Campionato Esportiva campaign over the past month or so, it is going to take something for a fellow centre back to break the partnership between Hugo Mornington and Hand Sanitiser - on and off the pitch. The two played essentially the entire tournament in South Newlandia - Testiculos shortlist member Sophia Pearson and the Washing Machine receiving next to no minutes due to the pair’s teamwork - and boy, did it pay off. With only seven goals conceded in seven games, including one in stoppage time against Tumbra, it has not taken long for the Sylestonean defence to get back to firing, even while playing just the four at the back. On the left flank, Eden Holt was one of the players of the tournament for the country, controlling her wing viciously and with supreme pace, barely letting opponents past her while also making decisive runs forward when the counter was on, or when caught in a rare spell on build up play. That’s three best XI positions locked in, but the fourth is a little unclear. Sure, the Toilet’s probably Sylestone’s best right back but with the Dishwasher putting in commanding performances in last week’s Sentient Cup and currently looking in good form, there may well be a challenge for that spot. Even Lesley Keller - a shock selection, but a deserved one based on her form for Avondale Beach - could push her case for being Sylestone’s first-choice in that position throughout qualifying. Unlike the Dishwasher and Toilet, though, she doesn’t have that ability to clog up the pitch by spraying water literally everywhere, so there is that innate disadvantage.

Following the Campionato Esportiva, the midfield is home to one of the more major pecking order shifts we’ve seen, even with some players coming back from injury. Callum Blair, who sustained an injury midway through the group stage in South Newlandia and unfortunately wasn’t able to play again for the remainder of the tournament despite remaining with the group out of hope, has been pushed down the pecking order by the outlandish performances of Pesfield-based Gemma Rodway. After winning the Player of the Year award last year with ten goals and sixteen assists in thirty games, she continued her red-hot form in the azure blue, nailing down a starting spot next to the more defensive-minded Raphael Brown by the quarterfinal against Tumbra. With her attacking flair, she can move up a little more while her fellow central midfielder can hold back while pushing forward although under Anac, those instances would likely be few and far between. On the left flank, Cayden Holmes of the Avanaroch White Wings will be returning from a metatarsal fracture for the opening weekend of qualifiers, pushing Anna Henling and Amelia Stanton down the pecking order and remarkably, the Stove out of the squad. At the White Wings, Holmes typically plays as a left back but with such tussle for that position - after all, Hugo Mornington is also a left back for Hesham, while Isabella Cross is super unlucky to not receive a call-up - playing in the midfield is probably his best bet for game time. With Anac likely to transition to a 4-2-3-1 when in need of a goal, Holmes will likely find himself substituted for Henling, who can play more of a winger role better than he, with years of experience in Chromatika and Nephara as part of her resume. However, on the right, there will only be such problems if the Fridge starts. Both Abigails - Jones and McNair - have ample experience playing on the right wing so should be able to handle any associated pressure. The main role of the four will be to quickly get balls from the defence up to the two sole attackers - an attacking midfielder and a forward - on the counter, while also pushing back to help out the backs when defending. And as an unranked pot 12 team, they should seriously expect a lot of that.

After successful performances in South Newlandia, it’s no surprise that Rose Fleetwood and Cameron Keyes appear set to play the lead “10” roles through qualifiers, with both able to also play as forwards when necessary. With nine caps and four goals, the multiverse is already certainly aware of the threat she poses, while Keyes is often used as an impact sub who can flip a game on its head with his creativity. Interestingly, the Mixer’s snub after some poor performances in the Campionato give Harry Love a chance to show his worth after years with Riverside City in Baker Park although as a third-choice, it’s unlikely that he will receive too many opportunities to prove his worth. It would take something special to pip one of Keyes or Fleetwood in the pecking order, after all.

What a start to her international career has Alyssa Hightower had? Six games, five goals. You can’t ask for much more as a lone forward in an extremely defensive-minded team. Despite having a few finishing problems at the start of the Campionato Esportiva that saw her dropped, she roared back to life against Gouvanarch and Macbon to help seal a pair of monster wins and against Brenecia in the round of 16, scoring a lone goal to help take the game to penalties. With the Tumble Dryer rather outward about its feelings that it should be ahead of the Capitol Athletic striker in the pecking order, those performances certainly shut it up… for now. Both forwards will likely receive ample opportunity throughout qualifiers, while Riley Strathfield was eventually selected after coming off a three-way selection battle with Oscar Umbridge and Catroza Town’s Poopoo Bumbum (yeah that’s his actual name). At AFC Droves, he does the bulk of the scoring for one of the Toilet League’s most defensive-minded squads and with that kind of experience, may prove to be an asset in Anac’s team when inevitably given an opportunity.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER BIOGRAPHIES

Goalkeepers:

GK - Brick Wall:
With over 200 national caps and nearing 300 for the Kirkham Appliances, the Brick Wall is easily the most experienced goalkeeper in the squad - something that generally comes with being a Sentient due to their very slow ageing. As you may expect, the Brick Wall is incredibly consistent, but lacks the ability to take goal kicks and unfortunately, does not take up the entire goal at three metres (length) by two metres (height). Additionally, the Brick Wall is not the most agile but with its size, is still easily good enough to come out of goal when needed and cover most of it even when a rebound is poor. When scoring against it, you often require a little luck as well as skill.

GK - Georgina Fuller:
Despite the Brick Wall’s experience, Fuller actually became Anac’s first-choice goalkeeper by the time Sylestone’s Campionato Esportiva rounded up, with the Sentient shot-stopper a tad out of form and a little more inconsistent than usual. While Fuller does not possess the Brick Wall’s obvious physical traits, she’s still just as consistent as the Sentient and has the added ability of being able to pick the ball up and take goal kicks because, y’know, she has arms and isn’t so fucking massive and physics-defying to remove the purpose of feet. Will get her opportunities to once and for all usurp the Brick Wall for the nation’s number one keeper.

GK - Verity Cavendish:
Although Cavendish didn’t receive a start at the recently completed Campionato Esportiva, her recent performances for Armed Forces FC in Poafmersia have been good enough to ensure her a spot in this squad, albeit behind the Brick Wall and Alcassar 1986’s Georgina Fuller. While she does occasionally make the horrendous mistake to give an opposition a goal - such as dropping the high balls or those down to her sides - she can also pull off those exceptional saves that leave people’s mouths simply ajar. At 31 years of age, she’s easily the second most experienced of all of these keepers and having been injury free for many years now, her debut is beckoning.

GK - Callum Holmes:
Coming off a superb season with Capitol Athletic that saw Cayden Holmes’ younger twin brother find himself awarded with the golden glove to go with the Toilet League title, Holmes has certainly earned his spot as Sylestone’s fourth-choice goalkeeper, with the form of one ready to push right towards the very top of the pecking order. The transfer to Sivolvia Capitalizt will only improve those skills as he nears his peak, keeping young gun Ryan Macleay out of the squad against many calls to give him a chance at the top level. An all-round excellent player with remarkable ball skills that saw him challenge for a midfield spot at Capitol Athletic alongside his brother many years back before scouts recognised his goalkeeping ability, he will often immerse himself with the defence if need be and isn’t afraid to go up at the end of games, where he is almost as useful.

Defenders:

LB - Eden Holt:
With pace like a cheetah and determination like a gazelle on the run, there’s little wonder why Eden Holt is considered to be Sylestone’s best left back. Even though the competition for the spot is strong - after all, the Ironing Board, Thomas Davis and Isabella Cross are all very good in that position, while Cayden Holmes and Hugo Mornington are both regulars in the position for their clubs - Holt’s recent form for the Pesfield Trees means that at the moment, she’s pretty much a shoo-in as a starter. Due to the demanding nature of her role, Holt will often be substituted towards the back end of a game when she exhausts herself but until that point, she never gives up.

LB - Ironing Board:
Like Holt, the Ironing Board is a bit of a pace machine - it was one of the fastest players in the Sentients back before football’s hiatus in Sylestone. Prone to receiving bookings and even send-offs and suspensions due to its long, uncoordinated legs, that can come with a downside, though, although it also makes it easier to foul and hence receive free kicks. It’s a little unreliable at times but with the second-most caps of any Sylestonean player, it’s experience on the international scene is unrivalled amongst other left backs.

LB - Thomas Davis:
Having first been selected for the 30th Campionato Esportiva when humans were finally unleashed to the multiverse before going out with a whimper, Thomas Davis has developed into a well-rounded footballer who can be considered unlucky to miss out on a spot in Anac’s 26-player team to South Newlandia a few weeks back. As more of a defensive left back rather than one who often pushes up and creates chances with regularity, many would assume that he would fit Anac’s system more comprehensively but with Holt and the Ironing Board being two of the more adaptable players out there, Davis is likely to only receive a few chances.

CB - Hugo Mornington:
He may not be built like a typical centre back with a rather wiry frame, but standing at 195cm tall, his height certainly gives him an advantage over many opposition forwards. For someone who usually plays left back at club level - both Z’ai’ai and Hesham have used him as such - Mornington’s ability to adapt to the role Anac wants him to play is simply outstanding and by the end of the Campionato Esportiva, he was undoubtedly one of Sylestone’s players of the tournament. As a centre back in a side used to playing extremely defensively, Mornington’s role is a big one but with sky-high confidence in his abilities, he believes that he can do anything and if needed, single-handedly save the game. That oozing of confidence certainly makes up for his build and despite looking rather uncoordinated at times, can be incredibly tough to shoulder over. If Sylestone perform well during these World Cup Qualifiers, much of that performance will be because of what he was able to do.

CB - Hand Sanitiser:
There’s nothing scarier for a forward than breaking through a midfield to find a life-size bottle of Hand Sanitiser staring you down, its bulky body seemingly ready to push you over with just the slightest thrust. Aside from that, though, the Hand Sanitiser’s centre back partnership with Hugo Mornington is nothing short of outstanding, the two often found together analysing their play in past games and discovering new ways to improve that cohesion. The Hand Sanitiser generally prefers to operate on the right side of the back line and while it isn’t so good at clearing and isn’t the most agile of players, has such physicality that can block almost anyone in their tracks.

CB - Sophia Pearson:
After being shortlisted as a possible Testiculos last year, Sophia Pearson has every right to feel a little ripped off about her inability to break into the Sentients’ best XI, with Hugo Mornington and the Hand Sanitiser improving with every game they play together. However, with Anac promising to give the squad a bit of a mix up throughout qualifiers to try and find even better combinations, there’s no better opportunity than this for Pearson to find her groove again and threaten to usurp one of the two centre backs who played so many minutes during the Campionato Esportiva. A sure-headed defender who can keep calm in any situation, Pearson is also on the taller and bulkier side - a bit of a typical centre back, really. Has an accurate clearance to be feared.

CB - Washing Machine:
Another incredibly experienced customer, the rise of the Hand Sanitiser and the allowance of humans to play in the squad has seen the Washing Machine - previously a first choice centre back - fall a fair way down the pecking order. The fact that it’s Anac’s fourth choice shows the depth in this position Sylestone have and with the Sentient in excellent form for Fridge FC alongside the rest of his club teammates, it can be relied upon to perform when given a chance. Like the Toilet and Dishwasher, the Washing Machine can bog up the ground to make it very difficult for opposition forwards, although this tactic can only be used in the second half for obvious reasons.

CB - Sunil Damasekara:
Having flown beneath the radar for a number of years now, Damasekara finally earned his callup under Anac for the Campionato Esportiva and despite not receiving his debut cap (the friendlies against Evermark, Tikariot and Quebec and Shingoryeo didn’t count), the experience he gained through that is second to almost nothing. At 31 years of age, Damasekara has adequate experience after stints with Avondale City and Gallant Cross and is very good at dealing with aerial balls but can be hesitant at tackling. Generally though, he is very composed and rarely makes a rash decision.

CB - Alana Faucett:
When the 34-player qualifying squad was first announced, the revealing of Alana Faucett’s name on the list was one of the more prominent talking points for at 21 years of age, she’s still a rookie. Even a minor injury that kept her out of the first and second games of the Di Bradini Cup wasn’t enough to stop Anac from selecting the youngster, who was recently sold to Quebec’s Zenit Attawapiskat for over three million NSD - a remarkable price for someone so young. After such solid performances in the Toilet League for runners-up Pesfield Trees, putting in the work during her opportunities here may well see her rise even further through the rankings. One to watch out for in the future.

RB - Toilet:
With the Dishwasher right on its heels for the starting right back spot, the Toilet is really going to have to perform during qualifiers if it wishes to consistently receive game time in the future. A versatile full back, the Toilet is far less prone to making runs up the wings than some of its rivals - namely Lesley Keller - and as a result, may actually fit better into the type of team Anac is trying to produce. While it is better at right back, the Cassadaigua-based Sentient is also capable of playing in the centre and on the left and while it has no utterly amazing strengths other than talking shit and playing dirty, it has no obvious weaknesses other than the way it deals with aerial balls. After all - it’s a Toilet and you’re meant to sit on it.

RB - Dishwasher:
Currently in a good run of form with Fridge FC, the Dishwasher can be considered to be much like the Washing Machine - sprays water everywhere and is more physical than quick or agile. Interestingly, the Dishwasher is still able to make runs up and down the wing with its extraordinary stamina but like the Toilet, prefers to let the right midfielder - usually Abigail Jones - complete all of that heavy lifting. Still, the Dishwasher is a superb passer and when pushing forwards, can often find that inch-perfect ball into the box that can lead to something spectacular.

RB - Lesley Keller:
The final defender selected by Anac, Lesley Keller has got to be one of the more surprising selections but considering what she’s done for Avondale Beach over the past year, it’s certainly deserved. Last year, with the club languishing in last place with nearly two fifths of the season complete, Keller was one who stood up and led the team back into the mid-table despite being one of the youngest players in the group. Often, her work fell beneath the radar and as a result, did not receive selection in team of the season although reports indicated she was pretty damn close. Unlike the Toilet and Dishwasher, Keller likes to make runs up the wings and in games where wins are necessary, she may be more likely to receive minutes, if not a start. She’s got the potential to become a big-name player in the next few years, but that will rely on her making the most of her opportunity here. Current form indicates she can, but can she capitalise on that?

Midfielders:

LM - Cayden Holmes:
One of the most versatile players in this squad, Holmes has excelled at both left back and in the midfield in the past, currently holding down the former spot with Avanaroch White Wings in the Tikariot Premier League. He received the Toilet League player of the season award when only 23 and since then, has only improved on his game with stints in Pyazhnaya and now Tikariot. While a metatarsal fracture kept him out for most of last season and the Campionato Esportiva, Anac’s seen enough of him to know that Holmes - the twin brother of goalkeeper Callum - may be just the midfielder he needs to control the left flank.

LM - Anna Henling:
After a largely successful Campionato Esportiva, there is no doubt that Anna Henling will feel as though she’s a bit ripped off of a starting spot in this Sylestonean team. After first leaving Sylestonean shores to help burst into the national frame, the time she has spent at Omnio and Chromatika and Diamondqueen in Nephara have assisted in that, almost developing into a winger as well. With superb control of the ball and the skills to go along with it, Henling’s been able to develop into a strong all-round midfielder, with adequate passing and pace to go along with it. Can tend to be a little hot-headed, though, and can lose composure easily.

LM - Amelia Stanton:
After a year playing on as a CDM under Arjun Kohli at Betham FC, it looks likely that Amelia Stanton will be unleashed again on the left at Nephara’s Raven River, making it clear through interviews that she preferred to play in that kind of role. Although she loathes being called a winger, it’s true that Stanton is an aggressive-minded midfielder and as a result, may not wholly suit Anac’s style of play, for she often has the urges to go forward and create something out of nothing. A versatile player, though, and after a year at the Pandas, Anac has more than once used her as a central midfielder.

CM - Raphael Brown:
The captain of the Sentients, Raphael Brown is one of the calmest heads in the side - something to expect of a defensive-minded midfielder or centre back whose role is to control the game. His passing and vision is exceptional and while he can get physical, especially when he drops into the back line and helps work the ball out and forward. His experience will be key in this team and expect him to play the vast majority of minutes during qualifying, with only one or two other like-for-like midfielders in the squad.

CM - Gemma Rodway:
Gemma Rodway was originally began the Campionato Esportiva a fair way down the pecking order but due to an injury to Callum Blair, began to receive her opportunities and as she had done at Pesfield Trees for the past season, it’s safe to say that she capitalised on them. Two goals and three assists later, it looks as though she’s shot herself into the best XI on the back of receiving the Toilet League Player of the Season award for the first time. A flexible midfielder, Rodway can play both the attacking role - as she does at the Trees - or a defensive role as she has done in the past with Emacuton United or as you’d expect, something in the middle. With Brown leaning on the defensive side, there’s a chance that she may be expected to press a little more if need be and as one of the most creative midfielders in Sylestone, she’s one of the few players who can create the openings for chances at goal.

CM - Callum Blair:
Callum Blair’s injury midway through the Campionato Esportiva came at just the wrong time for him, as it provided Gemma Rodway with the opportunity to get minutes on the board and show everyone that she’s not afraid of turning up the heat at the next level. Her rise into Anac’s best XI has brought Blair a step down and is now going to have to fight hard to gain that position back. A player who often falls beneath the radar due to his quiet work in midfield, Blair can also be known for a bit of flair every now and then when he feels like it. A proper workhorse who you can always rely on to do his very best, no matter if you’re 10-0 down or 10-0 up.

CM - Bar Stool:
Another more aggressive midfielder, the Bar Stool can almost be a like-for-like substitution for Gemma Rodway, but can also - rather unwillingly - drop back into the defence to create a back five or six when a slender lead is intact. With 32 goals, it sits third in the list of all-time goalscorers for the Sentients - behind the Tumble Dryer and Mixer, as you would expect. Coming off a dominant season with the Kirkham Sentients, the Bar Stool should prove reliable for Anac and also has a few dirty tactics up its sleeves, notably when it jumps on top of a fellow Sentient to slot home its own sort of “header”.

CM - Max Paterson:
After what feels like aeons of controlling the midfield with Chamberley City, workhorse Max Paterson has finally received his opportunity to take it to oppositions on the international scene. Although he’s a fair way down the pecking order and may not receive too many caps, if he can prove himself in the games that matter then he may well find himself gradually moving upwards. A strong taker of free kicks and penalties, Paterson prefers to play on the left but if he must, can play on the right as well. At 30 years of age, he still has a fair few years left in his career and will be eager to finish on a high.

CM - Jack Lawson:
At only 21 years of age, young Jack Lawson’s callup to the 34-player qualifying squad has got to be the surprise of the day. Although the under-21 side failed to achieve its potential during the Di Bradini Cup in Valanora and had to deal with a group stage exit in an admittedly tough group, Lawson was one of the highlights for Sylestone and with a bit of nurturing, may prove to become one of the nation’s best midfielders in the long term. Another player who is superb at taking the free kicks - he even scored directly from one a fair way out in Valanora in a losing cause against Khantari - Lawson typically plays on the right at Avondale City but has indicated that he believes he’ll be fine in any position he’s put in, as long as it is in the midfield. Probably won’t receive many chances here, but it’s all about the experience.

RM - Abigail Jones:
One of the pioneers of humans receiving the opportunity to play international football, Abigail Jones has got to be one of the most talented players in this squad, with a strong Campionato Esportiva behind her. After all, many years in one of the multiverse’s top leagues - the Chromatik Red League - have that kind of impression on a footballer. Like Henling, Jones is almost a winger with an aggressive mindset and it’s not hard for her to push up when the need arises. With strong ball skills and a good eye for crossing, she’s probably exactly the player you want for that kind of role and Sylestone are lucky to have her.

RM - Fridge:
Who else other than the former captain of the Sentients? Although it’s used as a central midfielder by the Garbage Bin at Fridge FC, the Fridge is surprisingly fast considering it’s literally a refrigerator with legs and as a result, is well-suited for this role. Despite that and its inherently excellent stamina, the Fridge lacks agility and as a result, is likely to be substituted for either of the two Abigails if asked to press forward. Is known for getting someone or something to kick the ball inside its compartment and run forward with it, dodging defenders and until it reaches the goal or someone opens it up.

RM - Abigail McNair:
After finally capitalising on her potential with Cleorough last season, finishing the season with eleven goals in her first season back in Sylestone, having spent the hiatus with a host of other Sylestoneans in Cassadaigua. Currently in her prime at 31 years of age, this may be McNair’s chance to seal a big-money deal as she approaches the end of her career. At the moment, her best attribute is her pace, while she is also very composed and has excellent vision. With a one-year-old daughter to look after as well, though, her availability may prove to be a bit of an issue.

Attacking Midfielders:

CAM - Rose Fleetwood:
Having previously played the majority of her career as a centre forward or on the right wing, Fleetwood’s adaptation to the support striker, or “10” role has been remarkable. Although she was given a few options up front during the Campionato Esportiva, the way she played as a playmaker was truly exceptional. Having been recognised as a talent at an early age, she rose through the ranks at Betham FC in her hometown before making the transfer to Nephara’s Raven River, where she played a role in helping them back into the Zenith before being released and transferring to Tumbra - and she did not need asking twice, with long-time partner Cameron Keyes having spent the majority of his professional career at Tumbra’s Lakewood United. With a strong skill set consisting of exceptional ball control and vision, Fleetwood’s got to be currently performing relatively close to her best as she nears the age of thirty.

CAM - Cameron Keyes:
Although he began his career as a regular starter with both Betham FC and then Lakewood United, the rise of Tumbran football through both domestic and international rankings has seen Keyes slip into the role of an impact substitute for his club. However, that did not deter Anac in the Campionato Esportiva, who exploited that and typically gave Keyes half an hour to show his skills at the back end of a game, bringing copious rewards. A fast player on and off the ball, Keyes is willing to make space for his teammates to provide passing opportunities and is generally very good at providing the assist to goals. Sure, he can score them himself and that’s no problem, but with the sort of vision he has, it’s a waste not to use it.

CAM - Harry Love:
When the squad was announced, a rather large uproar met Harry Love’s inclusion over the Sentients’ most prolific goalscorer - the Mixer - a player who had started and played multiple games in the Campionato Esportiva. Although Anac was unwilling to share the reason for the snub, he hinted that it was more than just form, even if that was something the Mixer had been lacking ever since the Toilet League’s restart. Even so, Love had been on the national radar for some time, although many touted him to instead play as a regular centre midfielder rather than one with an attacking mindset - although he can play both equally well. One thing for sure, though, is that Anac has a plan and that Love’s youthful brashness and all-round talent will come in handy at some point.

Forwards:

CF - Alyssa Hightower:
With five goals from six internationals, Alyssa Hightower has undoubtedly had a blistering start to her international career and it’s incredible to think that, a couple of games into the regional tournament in South Newlandia, she was genuinely dropped for lack of form. Two goals apiece against Gouvanarch and Macbon immediately proved her critics wrong, before backing that up with Sylestone’s final goal of the tournament in an upset triumph against Brenecia. At her best, Hightower is a clinical finisher capable of spotting the smallest weakness in defence and with Capitol Athletic, can also set teammates up by making that defence-breaking pass that almost always leads to a goal. Can stay on the ball for a little too long at times, though and is a classy penalty taker.

CF - Tumble Dryer:
Throughout the Campionato Esportiva, the Tumble Dryer - a seasoned veteran of 228 international caps and 60 goals along with them - made it very clear that it felt a little hard done by, only receiving a few minutes to show its capabilities. However, after Hightower’s exploits following her return against Gouvanarch, the Sentient has been strangely quiet and has reportedly apologised after a publicised confrontation with its fellow striker. Like Hightower, the Tumble Dryer is a clinical finisher, although for a different reason - it can flick the ball up into its spinny thing (idk what it’s called) and fling it out, goalward, at tremendous pace. As a goalkeeper, it really is a nightmare to deal with, with more than one having to deal with a broken finger as a result of it.

CF - Riley Strathfield:
In a three-horse race with fan favourite Poopoo Bumbum and Licentian-based Oscar Umbridge, Riley Strathfield was able to take out the final spot in the 34-player squad selected for qualification. With experience playing in Tahlia Dawson’s ultra-defensive AFC Droves setup, Strathfield's awareness of how to play in this style of team will certainly help this group, even if he doesn’t get that much game time due to the sheer quality of both Alyssa Hightower and the Tumble Dryer. Strathfield himself can be a prolific goal-scorer when granted the opportunity, although has a tendency to run offside a little too often and get a little too eager. Nothing a good chunk of experience shouldn’t fix up with the right coaching.

ABOUT FARFADILLIS

A nation is usually defined as “a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.” A country is usually defined as “a nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory.” As such, contrary to popular misconception, Farfadillis is neither a country nor a nation. The reasons are twofold: first, to what extent governments exist in Farfadillis in the current day is a matter of fierce scholarly debate, and second, there are various ethnicities in Farfadillis that appear to have diverged culturally centuries ago, although it is impossible to know for sure because historical records are very hard to come by in Farfadillis.

So, having clarified what Farfadillis is not, it would be perhaps helpful to give information about what it is. Again, academics haven't ironed out the details and reached a consensus, but it is generally agreed that somewhere between eight and fifteen ethnostates, depending on who's counting and how, coexist on the island of Farfadillis, with the most cited figure being nine. We will henceforth assume that this last figure is, indeed, correct. As such, Farfadillis could be considered a “Plurinational Entity” in the literal sense that, whatever it is, it is definitely an entity, and it certainly has more than one nation in it. For simplicity, when we say Farf we will mean any ethnicity from the island of Farfadillis.

Although members of any given Farf ethnicity would spit on you for even implying they are similar to any other given Farf ethnicity, the reality is that all but one Farf ethnicity share a lot of cultural common ground. In fact, their cultural common ground is particularly distinctive and makes it hard for Farf refugees to set each other apart in other countries, where their differences between this common ground and the local culture tend to be far starker. This cultural common ground includes, but is not limited to: a general disregard for authority and order (in any sense of the word), a seemingly unhealthy obsession with fire (although some of it is down to fire being a very important part of the various Farf religions), recklessness (risk-taking behavior, if you want to be more charitable), and a very inconvenient ability for distraction.

The various Farf ethnicities do differ considerably, however, and this is reflected in the ongoing border friction between the various ethnostates. This is despite the fact that, ironically, Farves display omniglottery: the ability to learn any language to a native level with minimal exposition. They are not psychics, so can't just know what words mean without having heard them, but they can visit another country and talk like a native within a month if they want to. Most older Farves speak their local language, as well as Ferdullaelan, because in the past Farfadillis was a country, and Ferdullaele, as the capital, was a cultural hegemon. Farves who live on the border between two given ethnostates generally speak both languages, in many cases having picked up the other language passively and unintentionally. This heavily facilitates migration between ethnostates, as neighboring ethnicities are generally not too different-looking, and as such a Farf from any given ethnicity could cross a border and pretend to have always been a member of the other side's ethnicity. This has the interesting consequence of making the borders between ethnostates cultural melting pots, mish-mashing the cultures of both ethnicities far more than outside Farfadillis.

Regarding the nine ethnostates we have been referring to, here we present brief descriptions of those generally agreed to be “the” nine ethnostates, in alphabetical order:

Farolera is a very populous country, and is the most economically powerful nowadays, as their capacity for self-sustenance during the anarchy years was far greater than their traditional competition, the Ferdullaelans. Their territory is filled with lush forests and fertile farmland, which is actually an important part of the Faroleran identity. After Karinthians, Farolerans are generally considered to be the least Farf of the big Farf ethnicities, but they nonetheless display all of the aforementioned cultural common ground to a very noticeable degree. Farolerans speak Faroleran, which to many foreigners sounds remarkably similar to Spanish.

Ferdullaele is the ethnostate with the most fertile land, which historically gave them an enormous headstart. However, their population was the one that failed the most to adapt to the total collapse of society eighteen years ago, and as such the ethnostate is, forgive us for making things even more complicated, not strictly an ethnostate: order (in the loosest sense), hasn't quite returned to Ferdullaele; it has instead devolved into various subcommunities exercising what would best be described as anarcho-capitalism and they, of course, hate each other.

Fröndt is a very mountainous region, and most urban centers are in those mountains. The weather is extremely dry and cold, and the fauna is unforgiving. The Fröndti are typically more hard-working and level-headed than other Farves—or so they like to believe—and think of themselves as the reasonable, neutral people of the island. The rest of the island disagrees, as do most scholars. The rest of the island disagrees. They've had trouble with the extremely harsh winters and the flying jellyfish lately, but they're a resilient bunch, so they've adapted to the times.

Induja lies at the center of Farfadillis. All of the beautiful Farf biomes clash in Induja, which makes it the most naturally beautiful of the ethnostates. By driving less than two hundred kilometers, you can go from jungle to desert to plains to mountains. Due to this, Indujans are actually quite secluded, despite bordering a whopping six other ethnicities. Indujans are traditionally... well, forgotten. To most Farves, they're just that place you have to go through to reach other places, though this attitude towards them has been relenting in recent years.

Karinthia is a recently-discovered tribe of about thirty thousand people who live in the Szoirsian desert. Some scientists believe they'd flown under the radar for millennia, somehow. They seem to speak a language with no similarities with any other Farf language. The Farves that have come into contact with them have found them very bizarre, for the most part because they seemed to pay attention to detail and have a commendable work ethic, coupled with a fleshed-out concept of respect and hierarchy. One thing about them is shared with all other ethnicities, however: they venerate fire.

Kruviš is the most populated ethnostate, though only by a slight margin and only if you're willing to trust a Farf census from twenty-five years ago. This nation is mostly one huge jungle, but closer to the coast the jungle gives way to civilization... to a degree. The fauna here is perhaps the most dangerous you'll find on the island, which is really saying something. Wasps that explode (like bombs) when stinging, spider-snakes, frogs whose poison literally sends you to hell, etc. The Kruviši are even more fiercely nationalistic than the other ethnicities but tend to direct their xenophobia more towards non-Farves than the other Farves.

Rülândéá is historically the poorest and most abused of the nations; it's safe to say the Rulandese have never had it good. Rampant crime, extreme pollution, terrible quality of life, genocide and a very long etc. The region weathered the days of anarchy much better than most other places by virtue of already being used to misery. Nowadays, the region is controlled by the Rulandese Revolutionary Army, and a fairly idiosyncratic version of libertarian socialism is currently being put in place, but it is very hard to get information from Rülândéá due to how hazardous it is to get there in the first place. They're the most well-known Farf ethnicity by far because they produce better footballers than the rest of the island combined, to the point that some of the best players in the Multiverse come from this relatively small, run-down nation. Their language is also notorious for having too many diacritics. Farves from the other ethnicities feel very insulted when it is insinuated that they, too, speak languages with an orthography filled to the brim with diacritics.

Szoirsia is essentially one huge desert with small oases of civilization. Szoirsians are used to the extreme heat and dehydration that comes with their surroundings. They resort to violence first and foremost to solve problems, perhaps even more so than the Rulandese. Szoirsians speak one of the most distinct languages of the island: Szoirsian. As a language, it seems to very transparently be a creole between two ancestral languages that no longer exist, which in turn—along with what little archaeological evidence can be found—makes the scholarly consensus be that there used to be two distinct ethnic groups in Szoirsia that, somehow, fused into one.

Tanazza is rather uninhabited, being almost exactly fifty percent jungle, fifty percent desert in terms of surface area. The inhabited parts generally lie at the edge of both biomes. Tanazzans have a notoriously hard time getting out of Tanazza because there are no roads out. The collapse of supply chains during the anarchy years hit the Tanazzans particularly hard as a result, and they are still reeling from it. They are, nonetheless, very resilient and, supposedly, very good-humored.

As a general rule, it is very hard to travel to Farfadillis. Things have gotten better recently, as some working airports have been constructed in Farolera by the Banijan and Euran relief efforts. However, travel within the country is still notoriously hazardous unless you're willing to spend a lot of money bribing the locals.

STAFF

MANAGER:

Lele Manguele - Age 47
Silver-tongued Lele Manguele should not be here. His past is shrouded in mystery: for all we know, he was a run-of-the-mill Farf until he turned up to a Royal Rumiatzi interview one day, uninvited, and convinced them to hire him as manager. He bedazzled fans and neutrals alike with his gung-ho attacking style but eventually got sacked because he couldn't win the league to save his life. He did break the league record for most goals scored in the process, however, and nobody thinks of his stint there as a failure. He then convinced the FFFF to send a squad to the Di Bradini Cup after about two decades, and then took over as manager there. The team performed dreadfully, but Alex Terán, the FFFF's president, liked Manguele's initiative and style of play enough to hand the senior team over to him for World Cup 89. He's even been given full control, no questions asked. His stint so far has been a considerable failure, save for one good AOCAF Cup run to the final. With a penchant for the bizarre, even by Farf standards, Manguele is sure to, at least, confuse. Also, the only reason he's not been fired yet is he's a useful asset for Alex Terán for potential-upcoming-ethnic-war-related reasons.

ASSISTANT MANAGER:

Gylfi Haukason — Age 63
Famously bad at winning, Gylfi Haukason nonetheless has a lot of experience at the top level, having managed Savojar sides to third-place finishes consistently in the SFS, as well as the Savojar national team. The less said about that last job of his, the better. His role is to play the sane man to Manguele's insane man, provide some actual tactical know-how and be the target of frequent derision from Manguele himself.

Tall, agile and with the inherent sense of timing needed to be a great sweeper keeper. In other words, a perfect fit for most, if not all, Farf tactical set-ups. If he grows into the player some think he could become, we'll see him amass a lot of caps.

A versatile player that can play anywhere along the left flank, Josué has got the technique to become an impeccable player one day. On top of his versatility, he's extremely pacey and very nimble (though also very easy to muscle off the ball). His rise at La Nueva Avenida has been rather meteoric: he usurped Agapeto Chayra's starting spot and NT bench spot in a matter of months, despite Agapeto's five-year advantage. He has continued to impress in the S-FPL, and rumor has it Alex Terán has also forced Manguele's hand when it comes to Faroleran representation in the national team, so say hello to la Vherderoja's new starting left-back. One of the few positives from last AOCAF Cup's dreadful run, Josué now seems ready to set the world alight, figuratively or otherwise.

A massive fucking unit, Türrâgel is perhaps best described as a train: he comes at you really fast, really hard, and you better hope he's got his tackling technique right or it will be time for a spell on the sidelines. His pace is scary for someone his size. He can jump very high, too, which makes him a menace on set pieces. The Rulandese youngster has carved a spot for himself at Mâ Âlâmëómë with his imposing physique and sly reading of the game. After last cycle's fiasco with der Efer, it is no surprise the young man has now been handed a starting spot for the NT too. His weaknesses? Anything relating to playing football, as opposed to preventing others from playing football. He's not bad bad on the ball, he's just way off Farfadillis-international-player level, which is honestly kind of ok for a center-back anyway.

Rôbé Wîjkár — aRBa — Age 23 —

Absurdly precocious, it was actually somewhat of a surprise that it took Manguele so long to opt for Rôbé as Farfadillis' starting right-back. What makes him good? He does not get tired. At all. Ever. He's fast and agile despite being rather tall and he's got great technique. He could potentially be retooled into, for example, a center midfielder or a right winger, if Manguele were so inclined. He really does have a very versatile skillset. For now, though, he's the NT's right-back at a time when they're not exactly a dime a dozen... which is hardly a rare occurrence, mind.

Ígnîgo Çí Xôrí — aCMa — Age 36 —

Mâ Âlâmëómë

Currently, Ígnîgo is under the enormous risk of becoming the best Farf player—ever—to not have won an international trophy. His career has been long and, while inconsistent, extremely impressive. He's got astonishing technique, fantastic vision and high endurance and is quite decent defensively to boot: almost the ideal box-to-box midfielder. When he's on one of his good days, he is completely unplayable, and as of late most of his days are good days. He's capable of single-handedly grabbing a game by the throat by utterly dominating in midfield. His presence in this team is the only reason any Farf can even dream of winning the World Cup again this edition (a bit of a delusional dream, unfortunately), as it's a team very much in transition, and it shows. However, age is a concern, as much as it doesn't seem to be affecting him too much yet, even at the age of thirty-six.

Lêyêló Jáánsêlà — aTKa — Age 20 —

Rülândéá Kôstä

An extremely intelligent, physically-imposing and completely tireless midfielder who can be a goalscoring menace if you let him slip through your radar. It is very much possible that in Lêyêló la Vherderoja has the first world-class takilante since rue Cazade (and therefore the second world-class takilante period), and the first for whom it's his natural position. Hell, it's genuinely reasonable to say he's world-class already, after his recent run of form with his boyhood club Rülândëá Kôstä. Expect him to be one of the most frustrating players a defense that tries to build from the back can face, as he's only been getting better at disrupting teams with his pressing.

Jôs Sürréo — aOMa — Age 22 —

The next Xíxì Êns! But much worse. But also, being much worse than the best Farf player in all of history gets you a starting spot for the national team at twenty-one. He has the diminutive legend's exact frame, which makes his dribbling ability absolutely deadly. On top of that, he's also a great playmaker and excels at reading the game. Much like Xíxì, he can score too. And he's even a Dí Maozöxê youth product! He's been tasked with the role of playmaker for now, but he'll be gunning for a spot up front eventually, unless he really settles into this new position. He had a hard time doing just that last AOCAF Cup, but with Robineau bursting into the starting eleven, he'll be given more time to accustom to his new role until Çêwé's form dips... which could be a long way off still.

Lihonhegeí Aixenxó — aLWa — Age 21 —

Right-footed and versatile enough to play on either wing, either as an inside forward or as a traditional winger depending on which flank he's chucked into. Blisteringly fast, great crossing, very good dribbling and not as useless at scoring as he used to be. He will, nonetheless, still be looking for assists far more than the average winger... problems could arise over his racism towards most of his teammates, however, especially given he'll be making them look good if they score off of his playmaking. Nonetheless, he's become too good to not start, even taking the racism into account.

After being played out of position for over half a decade, Kolejes is finally getting his chance to shine in his natural position this AOCAF Cup. He's a fast, slippery and pretty technical winger who's actually quite good at crosses when he can bother to attempt them instead of trying to dribble his way into the box. His decision-making has markedly improved over the years, however, so this isn't as much of an annoyance as it initially was. He has, in the past, turned down offers to at least three massive clubs because he's too chicken shit to say no to his girlfriend, or indeed anyone. No, seriously, he's a massive scaredy-pussy. Nonetheless, a potential key player if he can find his feet. He didn't at the AOCAF Cup, which means his starting position is in jeopardy, but he can still turn things around, and his sheer talent means it'd be stupid to bench him over one bad tournament.

Dénes Robineau — aSTa — Age 21 —

Dénes, unfortunately for such a diva, has got it all: technique, pace, strength, finishing, aerial presence, off-the-ball skills, raw determination... sure, he's not quite captivatingly good at all of these things, but he's one step away from becoming an unstoppable goalscoring machine unlike any Farfadillis has seen in almost twenty years. All eyes will be on his performances in qualifiers, as they could make or break la Vherderoja. Hell, if he turns out to be a dud, that could become a serious problem for the NT's long-term prospects.

A true journeyman, Vâásk has played for, like, three or four different teams, which is a lot in this Multiverse. Nowadays, he's going through a purple patch of sorts, with dominant performances domestically in Nephara first before upping his game in Pasarga, where he has been absolutely unplayable. For Farfadillis he's been going from strength to strength, but his domestic performances demonstrate he can do even better. Most importantly, perhaps, Çêwé brings to the table things that many players on this team don't, at least not to the same extent: grit, slyness and nudes of Lele Manguele that he uses as blackmail (that he presumably won't need anymore... until age starts catching up to him). If anyone's gonna get a rise out of an opposing defender, it's gonna be Vâásk.

Rogerio is tall, has got great reflexes, and is not half bad at timing his runs to come out of the box. His subsequent move to Mâ Âlâmëómë has naturally not damaged his reputation, except among Faroleran nationalists. As already mentioned, maybe that last part was a bigger deal than he expected. A spell on the sidelines it is.

A shorter, faster and more technical version of Tusales, Ramos Rivas is also a very good fit for Farfadillis' typical tactical set-up. Alas, Tusales is the better shot-stopper by a fair margin, so he'll not be afforded as many opportunities as the Ferdullaelan, if indeed he is handed any opportunities at all. He has impressed at club level for Alex Terán's La Nueva Avenida, mind, so a political maneuver landing him a starting spot is hardly out of the question.

With his days as an Astograthian NTer behind him, Tipi Izotzubia, who has now admitted to being Rulandese, but for some reason has decided that his name being Tipi Izotzubia is a hill he's willing to die on, is a true physical behemoth: he can run up and down the pitch while barely breaking a sweat, at an astonishing pace considering his massive frame and brutal strength. An aerial menace who's not half-bad on the ball. If Degaray hadn't turned out to be so good, he'd have a starting spot locked down by now.

An absolute unit, Vidaković's call-up is likely to surprise many. Despite playing for Prostran I Forzuda, the center-back's sheer physicality makes him a valuable addition to the team. What's more, he's still fairly young and has shown tactical astuteness beyond what was expected from what at first sight appears to be a barely-thinking monster of a man.

A defensive-minded right-back by virtue of having been brought up in Kelssek and never having stepped foot in Farf soil to date, Kurispin is likely to prove a useful substitute for a team that generally entirely lacks genuinely tidy fullbacks in most of its iterations. Oh, by the way, he's a Champions' League winner. How much playing time he gets will depend on the manager's pragmatism, which is decidedly bad news for him. Alas, Kurispin might nonetheless have the quality to force his way into becoming an important part of the team.

The Rulandese has usurped the NT spot from club teammate Pîyár Voís, but the competition between the two is far from over. Nâáçó differs from his teammate in that he's a much smarter player on the ball. He's less of a relentless headless chicken and more of a calm playmaker. He knows how to dribble his way out of pressure and how to put in a defensive shift, but it is his game intelligence that makes him stand out. A fairly balanced player with no glaring weaknesses.

Yob Yeyeh Aan — aCMa — Age 19 —

Rulandese-born, adopted by upper-class Banijan parents at a very young age, Yob Yeyeh Aan has had little to no exposure to Farf culture throughout his life. Despite his parents' best efforts, he's a surprisingly Farf Banijan, even beyond the color of his skin. Or is he, maybe, a very Banijan Farf? It's all semantics, anyway: he did not hesitate to accept a call-up to represent la Vherderoja, and that's what matters most. On the pitch, he's a two-footed, very versatile nightmare for defenders. His technique is mouth-watering, even if he's easy to muscle off the ball. Very much the kind of player that could crack one hundred caps, not least because he can play central midfield plus anywhere up front.

Odalis Pokéésé — aCMa — Age 19 —

La Nueva Avenida

Half-Faroleran, half-Rulandese born in the frontier between the two nations, Odalis is an admittedly very awkward inclusion into the squad with the brewing ethnic tensions between the two nations, but his talent has been so undeniable even the rather racist La Nueva Avenida coaching team had to let him become a key figure for them. A very balanced center midfielder, Odalis offers a little bit of everything: he can run up and down the pitch, he's good at playmaking, can dribble his way out of pressure and has a sharp sense of tempo. Still very much raw, much like half the players on this team, but he could turn out to be a world-beater.

Valeriano Loustaunau — aCMa — Age 27 —

Valeriano, mostly unknown to the average Farf, brings something different to the table: he's a very good deep-lying playmaker, which is a role Farves tend not to excel at because of their rash tendencies on and off the ball. His call-up comes at a rather interesting time: after holding into his starting spot at Kingsbury United for very long, he's now lost it. Perhaps the gaffer hopes this will light a fire under his ass not just at the domestic level. Regardless, he brings substantial experience to a team that otherwise lacks it and a player profile seldom seen in Farf players... which makes it hardly a surprise that he played zilch top-level football in Farfadillis before moving abroad.

Faragó Aranya — aOMa — Age 26 —

A Farf refugee from Kelssek, Aranya hasn't nailed a starting spot at his club (yet, at least), but was one of the few bright spots from last AOCAF Cup's terrible campaign. He's got a deceivingly smart element to his game, with great vision and a surprising ability to pull off some of the toughest long passes you'll see. More importantly, though, he's actually remarkably smart at pressing, which is rare for a Farf... but perhaps not so rare from a Farf that was brought up in Kelssek.

The obligatory shot-in-the-dark call-up that pretty much every Farf squad must have, it is hard to know in advance whether Ludovic will be a world-beater or a quickly-forgotten player who initially showed considerable talent but was burned out too early by undue pressure being placed on him from a very young age. He's very technical and very smart, which makes him a fantastic playmaker who's also not afraid to beat his marker in order to fully secure a good chance for his team. The downside? Zero minutes of professional football to speak of so far, perhaps owing to the fact that he is fucking seventeen. Time will tell whether this is a masterstroke or just a bad decision. Probably the latter.

Yonatoño de la Garza — aLWa — Age 25 —

It takes someone special to come through La Querida's youth system and somehow still manage to be a decent player. Yonatoño has managed just that, all the while being lauded as the most compassionate, friendly, admirable, gullible, dumb, thick person you could ever meet. He's very fast and he's a good crosser of the ball. A very good crosser of the ball, and Manguele is a sucker for that. He can be very one-dimensional, and he doesn't look like he could grow into a higher-dimensional player, but sometimes one dimension is enough. Especially if you're a winger and your manager is Lele Manguele. Playing well for Corvistone hasn't hurt, either. Aixenxó's stolen the starting spot for him, but competition for it will still be fierce.

Born Geneva Kilgallon, daughter of Crisisbless-legend-turned-absent-father-figure Ror Jevjdević-Hadsić, Ženeva has shocked the football world by leaving aside her reportedly unmatched revulsion for her father and accepting a call-up for la Vherderoja even though a call-up for the Cormorants was presumably not out of the question. She's been forced to undergo a not-so-subtle name change to make her Kruviši heritage more readily apparent. But anyway, let's leave aside this running theme of non-Farf-born Farves and focus on what she can offer on the pitch: she's a versatile winger who can play on either flank despite not being two-footed. On the left wing, she'll be looking to cut inside and create danger with her playmaking skills, presumably inherited from her father, while on the right wing she'll be playing a more traditional winger role in which she'll exploit her pace and very good crossing ability.

Ferokaril's break-out star after getting promoted to the S-FPL, Indehires almost seems purposefully designed to be hated by defenders the world over: his pressing is relentless and his off-the-ball movement and finishing quite remarkable. At the moment, he's got a lot of competition for a starting spot, but don't be surprised to see him subbed in if there's a need to shake things up.

Luar Ferreira-Koko — aSTa — Age 21 —

An Astograthian who is Farf through his grandfather who played goalkeeper (terribly) for Ximun Orieta, Luar is a promising target-man with brutal speed for his size. He can be a bit too wasteful in front of goal, but he's nonetheless good at setting up teammates and generally being a nuisance for opposing defenses. His headers can be very troublesome for unsuspecting defenses, too.

TACTICAL INFORMATION

Nominally, this is the "shape" Farfadillis will be employing in most games. As usual with pictures like this one, they tell only a small part of the story, but something can be said in broad strokes with just this picture: defense will be an afterthought and there will be a great focus on providing a variety of outlets for players to create good chances and, Margaret willing, score them. It is perhaps, however, more useful to look at what the team will look like in possession and out of possession:

In possession, la Vherderoja has a famously ample repertoire of attacking combinations it can pull off proficiently. The repertoire has been shaken up a bit, but the gist of it remains the same.

On the wings, the wingers will try to combine with the fullbacks so that the latter either underlap or overlap. Underlapping will happen when a hole in defense opens up, typically because Sürréo, Robineau and Jáánsêlà have created it with their movement. It is thus hardly a rare sight for Farf fullbacks to run into the box and look to score or, a bit more frequently, assist a teammate, typically one of Robineau or Çêwé. Should the fullback overlap instead, it will be because one of the wingers has cut in, and the fullback will be trying to stretch the defense by resupplying the width lost by having the winger on the ball in a more central position, in order to either generate more space for the forwards or, alternatively, provide a passing option for a potentially dangerous follow-up cross (or venture into the box if the fullback is feeling lucky). As the team's main playmaker, Sürréo will often be a helpful outlet for Marajis and Wîjkár if they try to combine, as he typically operates on the right half-space. Aixenxó and Degaray will not get the same help, but will usually find themselves with more space to operate as Sürréo will be drawing players towards him.

When attacking through the center, Farfadillis will typically resort to three different approaches. Firstly, Çí Xôrí is very good at pinging long balls to well-positioned forwards (or other players if the opportunity arises), so he will be looking to do exactly that from a relatively deep position, though he won't shy away from dribbling his way into enemy territory to facilitate a killing pass, even despite his age. Another recourse la Vherderoja has is overloading the right flank before quickly switching to the center and looking for a Jáánsêlà run into the box. It will usually be one of Çí Xôrí or Sürréo making the pass in this scenario, though it could also plausibly be one of the forwards, or even Wîjkár or Marajis with a cross, skipping over the switch to the center altogether. Finally, Farfadillis will not shy away from playing a careful possession game through the center, as all of their players are fairly technical and their strikers capable of creating chances for themselves if given some space, which they typically will eventually find unless the opposition is willing to leave the other players relatively unattended.

It is also worth noting Farf players are typically very versatile, and it is not the exception with this generation of players: they can and will switch positions mid-game in an attempt to create disarray in the opposing team. The most usual switch is Robineau dropping deeper to a false nine role and Sürréo playing as a forward, which will, if done correctly, pull a defender away from the backline and create space for the latter. A simple backpass to Çí Xôrí will often result in a good chance for Sürréo under these circumstances. Other players that might switch positions in attack are the fullbacks and the wingers, the wingers themselves (in which case the team will be attempting far more crosses) and perhaps less relevantly Robineau and Çêwé, when better hold-up play is needed, as the latter is better at it and the former is still a fairly lethal fox-in-the-box.

Beyond this, a lot of freedom has been granted to the players, so they will come up with attacking combinations on the fly if they intuit it's the correct approach, which is what will happen half the time. Note this is purely what will happen in possession, so none of this has covered counterattacks. Counterattacks are generally fairly disorganized: Farves make the most out of their blistering pace and great technique to be lethal on the counter, and scoff at the notion of training specific counterattacking combinations... which arguably hamstrings them, but they don't know that.

Out of possession, there will be madness with some method to it. The team will experiment with a hastily-put-together backline four, with Wîjkár having the attributes to be a solid-ish center-back, while Marajis has plenty of experience playing as a right-back. With this shape, Çí Xôrí will be responsible for covering vast swathes of defensive midfield, getting help from Aixenxó, who's expected to drop inwards in defense. Most notably, Jáánsêlà, as a takilante, will be tasked with relentless pressing, focusing mostly on the left half-space to cover up the space left behind by Aixenxó. Meanwhile, Sürréo and Çêwé will be tasked with moderate defensive responsibilities, with the latter drifting to the right often. Finally, Robineau will be tasked with spearheading the press, though Jáánsêlà will sometimes maraud even further than him, forcing him to switch positions with the Rulandese.

Although this defensive shape provides more solidity than previous iterations, it makes transitions to the usual attacking shape much harder to pull off quickly: this is where the ability Farves have to improvise on the counter comes in handy, as pretty much all attackers are fast and pretty much all players making the key passes will be capable of pulling them off reliably enough. Çí Xôrí and Sürréo's press resistance will be key when looking for a less sudden transition (one that lets the team set up as in the previous section), as it will give players time to go back to their positions. Transitions will still be happening quickly, mind, as the players are all very quick, but not as quickly as they did in past cycles, and players will tire out more quickly. This is ok because five substitutions are allowed nowadays, as opposed to three. The winger and the full-backs are the ones most likely to be subbed off, since their roles require far too much stamina for the players at disposal. Jáánsêlà's role is actually the most demanding, but he's notable for his endurance, so he's less likely to be subbed off unless a change of tactics is required, or he's had a run of many games in quick succession for club and/or plurinational entity.

It's been five long years.

That's right! Believe it or not, five years have passed since Eshialand's first attempt at making the big dance, and while 0 for 5 may not be the best of batting averages, this year, there's good reason to be optimistic about this team's chances at making the final thirty-two, or at bare minimum the playoffs.

First, the team's position in the group draw. It may not have happened yet, but it's already looking quite juicy. Somehow, despite being pot 5 in WC XCII Qualifying, and 5th in their group that cycle, that's somehow left them poised for a pot 4 berth this time. Yep, fix your calculators, two fifths make a fourth.

While the IAC may have left a lot to be desired (following the typical Eshian formula of "weird loss to low ranked team in group stage, start to recover, then round of 16 exit") Aleirave now being of a decently similar ranking to the Owls give a natural reason to perform well: they couldn't let their teensy tiny island territory outperform them, that'd be a nightmare!

So, it's up to Kenny Morgan and company to deliver. Deliver for the people of Eshialand, the glory of victory, and to make their fifth anniversary truly special. That, or another mid-table flopfest. That'd be the most Eshian WCQ of all!

At United he improved upon a solid foundation that Didrik had established and saw greater success as a result. The VSC is likely hoping that he will be able to replicate that with the national team, although there is a small fear that he may come to deviate from the traditional Vanorian formation. What is known is he can manage egos quite well and has a history of success wherever he goes, with being perhaps the greatest United manager in their long history. Having started his tenure with an AOCAF Cup victory has erased all doubts about his appointment and fans are now excited to see if he can be the one to help the team finally chase down that elusive sixth World Cup title.

About the Team

Team Hopal is once again here at the World Cup Qualifying. But the circumstances feel a bit different at this World Cup Qualifying than it did at the last, for one Manager Tom Villiers seems to have a lot longer of a leash than he did at the last World Cup Qualifying. At the 91st World Cup Qualifying, which was Team Hopal's first World Cup Qualifying and was supposed to be, according to Tom Villiers, 'Hopal's great official entrance onto the international stage'. But that World Cup Qualifying was, quite frankly for Team Hopal, a disaster. At that World Cup Qualifying, Team Hopal only netted 2 wins out of 20 games, only capturing 8 points, and losing a grand total of 16 games. Everything that could go wrong the Hopalians, seemingly did and there was much outrage among Hopalian fans for that performance, much of it directed at Tom Villiers. But Villiers kept his job, and after a string of poor performances by Team Hopal at tournaments across the multiverse in between the 91st and 92nd World Cup Qualifying, Villiers and Team Hopal made it to the 92nd World Cup Qualifying. At this point Tom Villiers' job situation was looking very precarious, and his job likely depended on Team Hopal's performance at that World Cup Qualifying. Villiers ultimately kept his job after a World Cup Qualifying performance that Team Hopal net 6 wins out of 20 games and 20 points. While it was an improvement from Team Hopal's previous showing, it was a performance that left many Hopalian fans disappointed, and some felt that after that Villiers should have been fired. But Villiers kept his job, and entered Team Hopal into the inaugural Tea Cup, (a rather small experimental tournament) and Team Hopal performed well there, making it all the way to the Lower Bracket Semifinal (what is around the quarter-to-semi final of a typical tournament). This positive performance gave Tom Villiers and Team Hopal a boost, and gave Villiers more of a leash on his job. Spirits were high for the team going into the Independents Cup, but those spirits would come crashing back down at that tournament. Team Hopal seemed to return to their previous record of poor performances, at this Independents Cup, being eliminated in the Group Stage with only 1 win out of 4 games in total. Which brings us to this World Cup Qualifying, where Hopalian fans are dispirited after that poor performance at the Independents Cup. Tom Villiers might still have a longer leash from the Tea Cup, but he knows that he could still lose his job at this World Cup Qualifying, and while hopes aren't particularly high for Team Hopal at this World Cup Qualifying, Hopalian fans still expect the team to improve from their last performance at the World Cup Qualifying. Tom Villiers switched up the Starting 11 a little from the Independents Cup going into this tournament, but the reserves and most the team remain the same. A perennial problem for Team Hopal increasingly seems to be in net. After the retirement and departure of Adrian Turcotte following a string of poor performances, Turcotte's longtime backup Alex Gargin became Hopal's starting goalkeeper. But Gargin has had his troubles in net since becoming the Starting Goalkeeper, and with the trio of young Hopalian goalkeeper backups: Travis Durant, Joilee Parik, and Helen Oburhabel, some Hopalian fans feel that Gargin should be pulled from the net, and one of the young backups should be put in. Travis Durant actually played in some games at the Tea Cup and showed real potential, but Gargin was chosen by Tom Villiers to be Team Hopal Starting Goalkeeper going into this World Cup Qualifying, and it important to note that Gargin had his own good run at the Tea Cup too, and it's something that Villiers wants and seems to think we'll see more of. On the defence is where Tom Villiers has made the most changes, as Full Back, Allison Terrace and Kaylee Haboshinter are back together. The young defenders are close friends and have incredible chemistry, both fierce, fast, young players, they played together at the last World Cup Qualifying, but Haboshinter was benched at the Independents Cup. Hector Cruz, who replaced Haboshinter at the Independents Cup is now at Centre Back, playing with veteran Assistant Captain Kay Redford, who is the oldest player on the team. Cruz replaces veteran Lucy Anderson, who earned her way back onto the Starting 11 at the last World Cup Qualifying, but seems to find herself on the bench again, at to start this World Cup Qualifying campaign. Tom Villiers seems to have a younger, more aggressive defence at this World Cup, and the team in general seems to be a more aggressive and offensive one. Kaylee Marks is replacing Erin Tarter as a Central Midfielder, the 26 year old is incredibly similar in style to fellow Central Midfielder Kelly Hart, both being fast, offence-minded players, and Tom Villiers obviously thinks that the two will have some chemistry together. Alongside them is veteran Peter Fikudal, who has often been regarded as the master playmaker of this team, but age has seemed to be catching up to him at recent tournaments, and we'll have to see if age continues to hold him back here. Ahead of the Central Midfielders are the Frey brothers as Offensive Midfielders, the two brothers know each other through and through, and their goal-scoring ability is incredible, usually it's Harris, the elder brother, setting up Uma, the star goal-scorer. Speaking of star goal-scorers there is Hopal's only forward and Captain, Tommy Sanchez, who himself is an incredible goal-scorer who leads this team into this World Cup Qualifying. Hopalian fans await to see what this team will deliver at this World Cup Qualifying.

This is the official roster, featuring the Elite Eleven, an independent squad of Drawkians who have played all sports at a professional level for a confusingly long time. The old Kick Corps has been essentially removed, the players let go, and replaced by this squad of ridiculously skilled, annoyingly arrogant, and possibly immortal sportsmen. Nobody knows where they came from, or why DISC decided to replace the Kick Corps with them, but here they are. Just don't ask the baseball fans about them.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the Eleven are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Despite the fact that usually soccer is a female-only sport in Drawkland, the Elite Eleven have overturned that caveat as the higher-ups deemed them a suitable replacement in the interim as the real Kick Corps hides away for a few cycles and gets their shit back together.

Kirkenes is the biggest city in Kelssek, a huge and bustling multicultural metropolis. The city's character comes through in neighbourhoods like Little Ariddia, Bathurst Gardens, and Lancaster Hill. Fashionable boutiques and other opportunities for bourgeois consumerism are located in the Rosewood area. The 540-metre Panopti Tower is an iconic landmark, the St. Jude Market is a good stop for fine foods or a quick meal, Melbourne Square and Caron Street are where to go out, and the Museum of Global Civilization is pretty cool to learn about history and cultures and stuff. Home stadium of Langlois Océanic football club. Located in the hills northwest of central Langlois, the stadium is often considered one of the most scenic venues in Kelssek. Point d'origine, a monument on the stadium's eastern forecourt designed by Henri Lepine, celebrates the five Pacific regions.

The main stadium of the 4th Winter Olympics, usually more of a rugby venue. The area is a top destination to go skiing, not that your players would ever sneak off to do such a thing.

Tactics

Zachary Orengo has come into the mod and thrown the traditional Pasargan 4-4-2 and possession based attack out of the window. Orengo has brought in the press to the Wanderers, sacrificing one of the strikers for a stronger presence in the midfield to keep the middle from getting overrun when the press can not turn the defense over. In possession the formation turns into a 3-5-2 with one of the wingbacks moving forward to fill in the channel and produce a passing triangle while the other stays back as cover. The change in tactics managed to salvage the Wanderers' qualifying campaign, getting them into the Playoff and then from there into the Finals. Can it now work on the grandest stage and see the Wanderers cause issue for some of the best teams in the sport?

A Brief History of Obaman Football

Football as a sport is prohibited in West Barack and East Obama, along with other team sports such as cricket, rugby and paintball. This is because the prevalence team sports has a strong correlation to organised crime, violence and political dissidents, so all attempts at forming groups are prohibited. However, West Barack and East Obama has established an official national football team to help promote Obaman values on the international stage.

The West Barack and East Obama National Football Team will participate in its second ever World Cup Qualification rounds, after qualifying for the Cup of Harmony last time. In spite of a mediocre Independents Cup, the Obamen will be hoping to make their mark on the World Cup once again.

Now, they're putting their persuasive skills and tactical knowledge to the real test by continuing their role as the coaching staff of the West Barack and East Obama national team for the World Cup. Rumours that they were forced to take the job so that the government can distract them away from practicing law to better suppress dissidents are still false.

The Players

The players of the football team have been selected based on a variety of factors. The team that has been selected is the one that will maximise winning in competitions whilst minimising the possibility of bonds and teamwork being formed.

Goalkeeper: Dwayne Obama, 37

Captain Dwayne Obama is a fighter pilot for the Glorious Obama Air Forces. Known as 'Dwayne, Destroyer of Planes', Obama has taken down more enemy aircraft and blown up more secessionist state hospitals than can be counted. His reflexes and quick thinking helps him to get out of sticky situations, and his incredible muscles from intensive training means he can stop a powerful ball with just his pinky. The perfect goalkeeper candidate.

Left Centre Back: Trent Vobama, 38 (Captain)

Trent Vobama is the venerable captain of the team. His performance in the ODI World Trophy led to his call up for the football team, with many applauding his leadership and wondering if this old dog has some tricks up his sleeve. A very respectable figure, Trent's experience as a PE teacher will help him command the team to a victory.

Centre Back: Barack Denovitz, 30

A feared mob enforcer in downtown New Barack City, the Obamafinakis brothers convinced the Obaman courts to let Denovitz out for the competition, and if he succeeds could earn 10 years off his 150 year sentence (with hard labour). The definition of a hard man, he doesn't tackle, he just scares them away. Suspended on his international debut and he'd do it all over again.

Right Centre Back: Bark Obamallama, 32

Door-to-door llama salesman Bark Obamallama has really thick skin. You'll need it to if your day was spent dodging llama spit and verbal abuse from disinterested buyers. Described as being devoid of any emotions, Obamallama will have no second thoughts about ending that opponent's career with a devastating (but legal) slide tackle.

Left Wide Midfielder: Jenny Barracki, 28

Being a professional sprinter, Jenny Barracki is the fastest woman alive. In West Barack and East Obama. She can outrun most of her opponents down the wing, delivering crosses to waiting strikers. Also, she's great at fielding in cricket. Is there anything this woman can't do?

Left Central Midfielder: Harvey Chobamya, 29

Harvey Chobamya is not your average gym bro. He spends all of his days and nights on the treadmill at Anytime Obama in New Barack City, as well as doing all of the leg and feet exercises. The strongest lower body in the whole of the nation, he can send balls out of the stadium with just a slight tap. Leg day skips this guy.

Central Midfielder: Wolfgang Obamadeus-Mozart, 25

Better known by his pseudonym "DJ Momo" of the rap duo "Momo and the Obamasaurus", Obamadeus-Mozart has very unpredictable movement patterns to match his crazy beats. He can bamboozle, flabbergast and dumbfound any of his opponents to get the ball from one end of the pitch to the other. Finally reinstated into the team following his suspension and subsequent disappearance from the public eye, here's to hoping all that time was spent on honing his skills to boss midfields!

Royal Butler to The One and Only Barack Horatio Obama, Charles Obama is also a very skilled footballer. A holding midfielder, there's no room for nonsense when this guy's on the pitch. His commanding presence and knack for providing service to his fellow players will come into handy.

Right Wide Midfielder: Brett Pogama, 30

Brett Pogama has a lot of sports experience, participating in one of the most popular sports in the country (since team sports were banned) in greyhound racing. He plays the role of the rabbit, where he has to run as fast as he can to escape a pack of vicious greyhounds. Most of the time he gets out with only a flesh wound or two, showcasing his excellence for evading opponents to bring a ball into the box.

Sister to Harvey Chobamya, Lily is good at free kicks and penalties. Inbetween her courses at Frederick Obamatown National Health University, she practices her set pieces, which aren't technically illegal as there's only one player playing. She can't do much else, but if you foul someone, say bye bye to your fragile lead.

Fred Olibama is one powerful forward. He is a cobbler by day, but in his spare time makes some of the best sports shoes known to man. Being both the striker and the kit guy for the team, his experience in bring in the shoes of a footballer will definitely be a big help to the team.

National Stadium

The National Stadium is the largest stadium in Sajnur, with a capacity of 102,000 people. Located in the capital city of Javoser, home to more than 12.5 million people, it is the primary arena for big sporting events in the country, hosting a semi-final and most finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup, and several finals of the Tarvolan League, tarvolan being a code of football indigenous to Sajnur and traditionally Sajnur’s biggest sport. It has also hosted the biggest of Sajnur’s concerts and the inaugurations of two Presidents.

Built in 1952 and renovated in 2015, the stadium has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and affordable food and drink options to provide a comfortable experience for all fans while the stadium has been designed to allow fans to produce a raucous atmosphere befitting of large sporting events. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, and has thousands of parking spaces for those who choose to arrive in their own vehicles.

Niurka Stadium

Home of FK Khadur, arguably Sajnur’s biggest football club, Niurka Stadium is located in the Khadur area of Ciarkhan, a bustling metropolis of 4.6 million people that serves as Laghia’s state capital. Laghia was a territory acquired by Sajnur in a war stretching from 1982 to 1996, and it is the Laghian people that popularised football in Sajnur. As a result, the province has eight of Sajnur’s 32 professional football clubs despite having only 1/8 of the country’s population, and Niurka Stadium hosts the other semi-final and some finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup.

The stadium, built in 2006, was named after Nicolae Niurka, who was a Laghian partisan that served as a general against Laghia’s pre-1982 rulers and was killed in combat in 1995, aged just 46. With a capacity of 73,000, it is the largest stadium used by a team in the Sajnuran Premier League. Like the National Stadium, it has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of affordable food and drink options, with many food options being traditional to Laghia. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, but parking space may be limited on particularly busy days.

Queen Haqla Stadium

Queen Haqla Stadium is a 60,000 seat stadium near the centre of Roskjepa, the capital of Delta state and, with 6.7 million people, the second largest in Sajnur. Home to Rivers FC, the stadium is a regular venue for intimidating displays from Rivers fans, with flares, aggressive chanting, and large banners being a common sight, especially in derbies between Rivers and cross-town rivals Stormers FC.

The stadium was built in 1960 and renovated in 2016, and has all the amenities of the National and Niurka stadiums, while being a prominent sight on the Jagaroi River. As such, along with bus and train, the stadium is also accessible by the Jagaroi River’s ferry. However, like in Ciarkhan, access by car may be difficult. Queen Haqla, for whom the stadium is named, reigned over Sajnur from 681 to her death in 727.

Siyaka Island Stadium

Siyaka Island Stadium is the largest stadium in the Asulian states, with 66,000 people able to fit within its confines. Located in the outskirts of Tawqush, a city of about 5.4 million serving as the capital of Archipelago state, the stadium is the home of FC Mazigh, the foremost football club in the Asulian states. Fans on Siyaka Island often bring instruments to matches, ranging from the arghul to large drums to even accordions, posing both as support to those they like and a distraction for those who they wish to lose.

The stadium is the newest of the four national stadiums, being built in 2017 on what was the Mujar port before it was bombed by the Sajnuran navy during a war that stretched from 1990-2003. The stadium is easily accessible by both car and public transport, and with the New Mujar port being built as part of the stadium development, coastal and island hopping ferries can also stop right outside the stadium.

Born in the small transit village of Impangabiyaga on Statehood Day, Kirungan team manager Cyril Kamembe started his football journey as all of Kirungabi has: playing among his peers, on the banks of the twin lakes of his namesake hometown, with bushes and twigs for goals and anything as a ball. Kamembe, an ethnic Fupi, relocated to the Fupi-majority city of Imyuzure in 1985 amid economic hardship and flaring ethnic tensions in rural areas. Playing at the local Garçons du Port athletic club from 1988, Kamembe quickly honed his skills on the pitch to become one of the club's starting midfielders in the national single-level Championnat du Kirungabi de Fut in 1992, at the age of 16. Though the ensuing civil war cut his early playing career short amid the 1995 suspension of the Championnat until 2008, Kamembe returned to football at the ripe age of 34 a year after, playing for two more years before becoming manager of the GdP squad in 2017 after a small hiatus. He oversaw Championnat titles for GdP both as player and manager, including two successful championship defenses as the latter, and was selected by the Kirungabi Itangira Guhera Sporting Commission to spearhead the revival of the Kirungabi National Football Team before the 42nd Copa Rushmori. Though the regional tournament proved a modest debut for the squad, the experience led Kamembe to successfully guide an expanded national team to a thrilling Baptism of Fire title with a lossless streak to victory — a run of form he hopes to sustain going into the World Cup.

Assistant coach: August Abihayimana (age: 53)

Kamembe's second-hand man Abihayimana played alongside the head coach at Garçons du Port in their primes, completing the opposite midfield flank to his teammate in a near flawless partnership which netted them the 1994 Championnat title. Son of a working-class Barebare couple and born in Imyuzure, the GdP midfield star made his professional football debut three years prior to Kamembe, and the introduction of the fresh-faced Fupi player in 1992 unlocked a new level of performance in the local man. His star status initially had kept him from suffering the first blows of the Fupi genocide of the Barebare, but as the government of the People's Republic of Democratic Kirungabi began to lose its grip on power, the incitement of ethnic violence worsened. Abihayimana and his family successfully sought asylum in Græntfjall in 1996, and it wouldn't be until 2008, the year of the Championnat reboot, that the former #7 would return to the pitch. He shared one year on the field with his former teammate upon his return to football, before sticking beside him ever since in coaching roles at Garçons du Port.

With the Kirungan national football team leapfrogging from a luckless Copa Rushmori debut to an imposing, undefeated run to the Baptism of Fire title, manager Cyril Kamembe has elected to follow his instinct, and to not fix what isn't broken. The Kirungan starting XI sees, apart from the crowning of team captain to Umunzimukuru "Umuku" Nzafashwanimana no changes from that at the start of the 80th BoF — as Munyentwali Niyonzima of Delta AS returns as starter in place of his injury-prompted substitute, Rungayindo Gatabazi — but three extra players join the ranks of Kirungabi's elite footballers: Alphonse Mugiraneza, David Byukusenge, and Fiston Kabila. The new additions, explains Kabila, are meant to "further improve the synergy between the team's midfield and forwards" when planning substitutions.

The 60-thousand capacity KIG Olympic Park Stadium is the crown jewel of the Olympic Park in the planned city of Ville Amahoro, and the largest stadium by capacity in Kirungabi. The bowl-shaped stadium, surrounded by brand-new athletics facilities, a small natatorium, tennis courts, and modern suburbs, houses grandstands fully covered by PVC tarps laid over a cylindrical structure: a Kirungan architectural passion project. Facilities and amenities at the stadium, as well as hospitality in Ville Amahoro, are brand-new and well-equipped to receive an influx of foreign visitors. Traveling to Ville Amahoro by road is possible via the paved National Routes A 1, A 2, and B 11; by air, the city is accessible by domestic flights from Imisozi, though only Air Kirungabi is authorized to operate commercial flights on domestic routes. This colonial-era stadium, located in the heart of Kirungabi's bustling capital is a wide, oval-shaped bowl, with large, yellow, cement grandstands encircling the pitch surrounded by an athletics track. Its facilities were upgraded by home team Thousand Hills City upon its founding in 2003, without sacrificing the building's iconic, decades-old look. Located in the capital, amenities and hospitality services in the city are a non-issue for foreign travelers, as is arriving via air through international flights operated by airlines such as Air Terranea. Not to be confused with Aréne Inganji, home stadium of Imisozi Ishaje and part of the Aréne Inganji athletics complex, host of the Global Athletics Tour.

The home stadium of Club de Fut Liberté is another colonial-style bowl in the bustling port city of Mwanzibashi, the second-largest urban settlement in Kirungabi, with steeper grandstands surrounding the football pitch almost down to the ground; the stadium is renowned for the proximity of the lower stands to the pitch, which is lined with tall chain fences to prevent fans from storming the field during the heated matches between CF Liberté and Sport Kawakiyambu. Its location up in the hills of Mwanzibashi means that the stadium, visible from the city center on a clear day, is an iconic landmark of the port city.

Abongereza Olympic Arena, Abongereza
Capacity: 21,500

Rebuilt in 2004 after sustaining heavy damage in the civil war, the Abongereza Olympic Arena, home to Royal Boys Athletic Club, functioned as a hidden refugee camp — or safehaven — for Barebare persecuted during the ambush of Abongereza in 1988. With its pitch swarmed by internally displaced persons and Barebare hiding from the army's grasp on the city, the leading Championnat club was forced to shutter its doors and dedicate its facilities to their newfound humanitarian purpose. Government forces viciously attacked the Arena in 1993, as the conflict and ethnic tensions flared, and the facilities were plundered for profit. Today, the football stadium of the Abongereza Olympic Arena oversees a public-use multi-sport complex, and serves as a Kirungabi Itangira Guhera focus city for budding athletes in track and field.

Through strong wit, ruthless determination, and an unwavering commitment to unity, our brave boys have conquered the revered Baptism of Fire tournament, and have set us off on the right foot towards our country's debut in the World Cup qualifiers.

Many things had to fall into place to grace Kirungan football with its first ever international football title, but two factors, aside from the spectacular skill and steely nerves of our team, stood out as elemental to bringing the Baptism of Fire to its sensational ending. Of course, the incessant devotion of the Kirungabi Itangira Guhera development program's Sporting Commission, with funding from the Kirungabi Development Front, made the landmark achievement possible, but it was also thanks to the team's exemplary, outstanding "Kirunganness". Twenty-three talented Kirungans, of all origins and ethnicities, with Anglophone and Francophone and Kinyabirunga names, tall and short, robust and thin, Fupi and Barebare, came together to pour their hearts into one common goal, each putting their individual worth towards attaining the ultimate prize for all of Kirungabi.

That, my fellow Kirungans, is what makes us Kirungan. Our will, and ability, to work together — not despite, but thanks to, our differences. On behalf of my husband and I, we say Godspeed to the Kirungan national football team on their path towards the World Cup finals!
