Mississippi Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announces run for governor. He is a distant cousin of Elvis Presley.

Presley is likely the strongest recruit Democrats could have gotten.

Mississippi, Louisiana and Kentucky are holding governor elections this year.

I really don't think they would. You are completely untrained with politics and would have no idea how to run the new emperorship. Not to mention the beaurocratic hellhole (or if we're going super roman, lack thereof, which would definitely be worse) you'd have to run, and your lack of understanding of key members and functions of the U.S. Military all the way down that would almost certainly lead to you hiring some awful generals. security council members, and other military officers that'd almost definitely lose you the war in the near-certain civil war. But the worst part, without a doubt, would be the Federal Budget.

Tbh I don't even really think it's selfishness for a lot of people. If you divorce the ideas from the (very poor) marketing the Dems do for them most people broadly support an increased welfare state and such things, even among Republicans these ideas in their most basic form poll pretty well. The problems come when it's lumped in with the rest of the DNCs platform that drives a lot of people away.

Polling means very little these days. Republicans may like the idea. Then the reality of taxes to fix those problems. I, me, mine is a guiding force these days. You rarely see we or us used with problems.

Oh and don’t forget republicans do try addons with things they know the democrats won’t accept.

The faction within the Democratic Party that actively advocates for those things calls themselves the Democratic Socialists of America.

Regardless of what label you think fits, those policies are labeled "socialism" by their proponents as well as their opponents.

Because in America, anything even mildy progressive is Socialist. Social Democracy, Social Liberalism, and, subjectively, Democratic Socialism, are not Socialist. They are Capitalists, but back a more worker-friendly form of the system. The word "Socialism" is, as San Lumen said, overused. Especially in America.

Manufacturing is pretty rapidly moving out of China tbh. Wages are rising too quickly for us to remain there long term, there's been a lot of movement to Vietnam and Mexico and a couple other places because of it.

...and then the second semester begins in just a few days. which means i'm gonna have to start waking up at 6 am again.

A few years ago there was a campaign to force the House to vote on some manner of healthcare bill, despite the fact that it was quite obvious that the bill was not supported by mainstream Democrats. The idea was to put them on the record as voting against healthcare, make them actually vote it down, and the terrible shame of this would somehow lead to a huge surge for the left. It was all a terribly silly waste of time and some people are very mad at AOC for not playing along with it.

Medicare For All. She should have used the speakership as leverage to force a vote on Medicare For All, which would at least have shown everyone who is a real progressive and who is just bought and paid for health insurance firms and Big Pharma.

It’s truly amazing to me how it everything doesn’t go your way someone is a sell out or establishment. Why don’t you run for congress and pledge to not for your parties leader unless they agree to certain things and won’t take donations except from individuals.
