Host BidWorld Cup Discussion Thread

Welcome to the 80th edition of NationStates' premier footballing tournament for new players, the Baptism of Fire [BoF]! This edition is being hosted by the nation of Mertagne, and this thread is the in-character [IC] and roster thread for the tournament. If you are a confirmed participant (as per the list in this post, of if you see your nation below), then you may begin posting rosters and roleplays into this thread. If you are not a confirmed participant or if you wish to make an out-of-character [OOC] comment, please do not post here. OOC comments should be posted in the World Cup Discussion Thread [WCDT].

The BoF is a tournament for new nations about to enter their first World Cup [WC]. What follows is a brief summary for the newest of newcomers, as well as a quick guide to this particular edition of the BoF.

Welcome to NS Sports

This is likely your very first step into the multiverse of NationStates Sports roleplaying. Congratulations on taking such a successful first step such as signing up to this tournament! Now that you are confirmed to be taking part, your next step is to post a roster in this thread. As this is an association football (soccer) tournament, you will need some association football players to represent your nation on the multiversal stage! In its simplest form, a roster is a list of names of members of your team. To create these names, you can use your imagination, name generators, or even specific player generators out there on the internet, and you have free reign to build your team of players, and develop their roles. Does your team contain a star player? A manager with a particular personality? A player known for their drama?

Examples of association football rosters can be found here. These are the rosters for the most recent edition of the Anaian regional association football cup, the CAFA Cup. As you can see, rosters come in all shapes and sizes - from a list of names to full player bios. Be as in depth as you like!

As a part of your roster post, you can also include a style modifier. This is a number, which for the purposes of this tournament can be between -5 and +5, which describes how defensive or offensive your team's style of play is. -5 describes a maximally defensive team, and +5 describes a maximally attacking team. These style modifiers will be included in the scorination process, which is how scores are generated here on NS Sports. Three factors influence the final result of a match:
  • RANK - A coefficient number that describes how your team stacks up to other teams across the multiverse. This can be earned by participating in tournaments, and is different for each sport. The BoF is within the World Cup family, so any ranking points you earn in this tournament will be carried over to World Cup 93. Currently, all nations in this tournament will start with a ranking of 0.
  • RP BONUS - This is arguably the largest part of the 'game' here on NS Sports. If you want to go far, you must RP. RPs are graded by the hosts of a tournament, and will influence your performance. The more you RP, and the higher quality RPs you post, the better your team will fare. RPs are graded each matchday, and there is a set max bonus for each matchday, so RPing frequently across matchdays is a good strategy to improve your performance in this tournament. RPs can be on anything you choose - commonly, users will write match reports of the previous match they have played in, but you are welcome to roleplay pretty much anything - an interview between political opponents, the death of one of your public figures, or an alien abduction in your nation, to give just a few examples.
  • RAND - This randomness ensures that the very best RPers are never guaranteed to get a win, they simply have better chances, and keeps things interesting and competitive. As a result, you can never truly write your team off until they are statistically eliminated, and RAND has been the saving grace of many a team's campaign, and the ruin of many others.

Finally, in your roster post you will need to include your RP permissions. These detail what you can and can't do regarding players on other nation's teams. The permission box, an example included below, shows a format with which to display these permissions, and it is important to read the permissions of other players before including them in your own roleplays -- those roleplays may be ignored if permissions are broken! Furthermore, the permissions box also discusses 'godmodding', which is to control another person's roleplaying beyond the usual RP permissions. Examples of godmodding include unlikely events, such as a goal being scored by bouncing off of a passing seagull, or a player being injured by plane debris falling from the sky. If in doubt, check those permissions!

One unique feature of this tournament is that I, Mertagne will be posting ‘stadium happenings’ for many of the matches played in this tournament. These are unique to Mertagnian tournaments, and provide a brief snippet of things that have happened in and around the match that you have played. These stadium happenings may give you some inspiration when it comes to writing your roleplays. You are free to ignore them at will, and if you would not like to see stadium happenings in your games, you can include that in your roleplay permissions. Stadium happenings will only occur in games where no players have their permissions surrounding them set to ‘No’. An example of scores including stadium happenings can be found here. They are the snippets of text after the scores.

Also in this tournament, roleplay prompts will be given at each cutoff to give you some further inspiration in your roleplays. You do not have to use these, and there will be no extra bonus for doing so, but if you really want to write something but just can’t think of a topic, these might be useful.

Throughout the tournament, cut-offs will be posted. These are when the host (Mertagne) posts saying “cut-off”, and maybe adds something more to the post so it's not too drab. It means that no more RP’s will be graded for that matchday. Soon after the cut-offs, results are posted. Often, they’re edited into the cut-off post, so refresh the page frantically, check the discord for a message from the hosts (linked below), or be patient. Whichever is more your style.

Furthermore, don’t forget to check the stickied threads! They’ve got some important information in them.

If you're interested in what other, smarter people have written to introduce BoFers to NS Sports in the past, feel free to check out the following: 1, 2.

Here is an example of a roleplay permission box (with no permissions yet set):

Code: Select all
[box][b]My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:[/b]
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Generate stadium happenings: Yes/No[/box]

Tournament Information

We have 36 entrants, and teams will be randomly sorted into 4 groups of 9. The top four teams from each group will be placed into the Round of 16, which will be seeded. Draws will be permitted during the group stage. The final standing in each group will be according to the following tiebreakers:
  • Points
  • Goal difference
  • Head-to-head result
  • IC coin flip/drawing of lots (OOCly, matches are scorinated using the RP bonus accrued by each nation)
At each stage, tiebreakers will be applied successively until one nation is eliminated, then will be reapplied (starting from the beginning) as needed until all ties are broken.
Cut-off time will (mostly, I'm only human) be between 21:30 UTC and 22:30 UTC. All matches will be scorinated by the host, Mertagne. This event will use double scorination (also known as 2/48 scorination for a portion of the group stage. This means that, during those times, two matchdays will be scorinated for one 48 hour cutoff, meaning your team may play two games! Check the schedule to see who you will be playing when. If you have a bye, that means your team will not play on that matchday.

Matchday Schedule
During the group stage of the tournament, you will play everyone in your group once. Your position as written in the group list in this post determines the order in which you will play each of your group-mates. Using Group A as an example, on Matchday 1, the 2nd listed team, Obrela, will play against the 9th listed team, Inkwellistan. On Matchday 2, Obrela will play Ile de Richelieu, who is the first entrant in the group. Group entrants have been numbered to make it easier to find who you are playing on a given matchday. These groups were generated at random.

And finally, a few more housekeeping points of information:
Discord. NS Sports has a Discord server. Here's an invite. It is not an official NS function and not all users are members of it. As such, all tournament updates will be posted on the forum.
Etiquette. Any user breaching etiquette by spamming OOC comments, blatantly disregarding others’ RP permissions, engaging in plagiarism, or otherwise breaching NS Sports etiquette, will receive a warning from the hosts. Any user who continues after being warned will have their RP bonus reset to zero.
RP permissions. The hosts strongly encourage all users to, at a minimum, set their ‘Choose goalscorers’ RP permission to Yes. If you do not, do at least provide instructions for how a goalscorer should be picked. If you do not do this either, we will not look upon it positively.
General restrictions. These are examples of godmodding events that we don't wish to see. No user may RP destructive damage to the people or infrastructure of the host nations e.g. stadium collapses, unless they have cleared these things first with both their opponent and the relevant host. No user may introduce COVID-19 or any such pandemic to the host nations or to other users’ nations.
Style modifier changes. Each nation may change their style modifier once during the tournament. Contact the hosts by telegram to arrange this.
Everything else. Other than issues to be resolved by NS site moderation staff, or by the World Cup Committee and its Executive, the hosts’ decision will be final on any other issues.
I cribbed most of this from previous BoF posts. Credits to: Graintfjall, Sylestone, Farfadillis, Ko-oren - your work is likely in the OP in some way, shape, or form.

Welcome to Mertagne!
We’re happy to invite you to the fifth football tournament to be hosted on Mertagnian soil in three cycles!

Welcome to the 80th Baptism of Fire, which will be held entirely within the borders of Mertagne. After the success of Baptisms of Fire 78 and 79, which were co-hosted by Mertagne, the Federation of Mertagnian Football (FMF) decided that they were capable of hosting this one solo. Mertagne is having a bit of a boom period in terms of tourism at the moment, and your international association footballers and footballing fans are more than welcome to take part in all that the nation has to offer.

Mertagne is a nation of roughly 66 million people that sits proudly on the continent of Calania, in the sporting region of Anaia. Mertagne borders several nations that have performed well in the NationStates World Cup, including five-time World Cup winners Starblaydia, and many time World Cup semi-finalists Krytenia. The nation has exhibited its own success in recent cycles, and therefore we feel that Mertagne is a great place to nurture the next generation of NationStates World Cup talent - you!

Mertagne contains nine provinces, and was formed nearly one hundred years ago by a band of plucky refugees that fled the perils of facism in an event known as the Corvidae War. Its largest city is New Fligsive, found in Plitterland province, and its capital is Dannin, the nation’s third largest city, found in Dannmarsh. Its sporting hub can be found in the same place where the nation’s population first embarked across the nation - the city of Neorudo, in Touchpoint province. Nearly a century on, the nation is fully developed, but still contains severe inequalities - particularly between its urban and rural population.

Mertagne’s climate is rather mild, and enjoys a humid continental climate according to common climate classifications. Your matches will be held in Mertagne’s late summer, so expect a decent amount of light well into the evening, and those hazy summer nights that are perfect for a late night stroll. Much of Mertagne (particularly in the central north of the nation) is wetland, however, so watch you don’t fall into a bog!

Tourism & Transportation
Tourism in Mertagne is a burgeoning industry, but has matured significantly as the nation’s profile has increased with the hosting of several international sporting tournaments. The nation’s landmarks, including the Vessel of Victory, a large, copper statue of a ship that can be found in the bay to the north of the city of Keers, and the Road of Remembrance, a winding path adorned with grave markers that runs across the hill crest of the Veritas Valley, the largest valley in the Forkelands province, continue to draw in thousands of tourists per year.

Transportation around Mertagne is primarily done by car, as the nation's high-speed rail infrastructure is present yet fractured. The Trans-Calanian railway runs through the centre of the nation, and is the backbone of the nation's rail infrastructure, but its international status means that domestic trains are often slow. Coaches are your best bet for provincial scale travel, as routes between major cities are commonplace. Mertagne, much like many of its neighbours, drives on the left side of the road.

Culture
Mertagnian culture is built on the foundations of the historical cultures that came together to build the nation. Many Mertagnians will have an ancestry that is entwined with other nations, and the nation’s cosmopolitan cities will typically have enclaves of a variety of cultures dotted around them. You will likely be able to catch a whiff of home somewhere in the nation, such as a specialist food shop, a funky monument, or catching your language spoken between friends on public transport.

In terms of laws, Mertagne is governed by the National Forum, however Regional Forums have a lot of mandate to pass their own laws. Some of the big laws that may be relevant for your nation's athletes and sports fans are:

- The age to buy alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana is 18 years.
- Tobacco and marijuana products such as cigarettes and e-cigarettes cannot be consumed in public areas. Bars, including those in sports stadiums, are permitted to designate a smoking area, however many of these are an afterthought from the proprietors, so expect a dingy lean-to to be present more than a lavish garden.
- Other drugs are permitted, and are sold publicly in specialist stores. However, purchasing limits are federally mandated, and a background check must be completed before you are permitted a 'narcotics licence' (which is a subject of much ridicule among foreign nations). This hasn't stopped a black market from occurring, however, and the import of drugs does occur. Expect some tracksuit-wearing bloke wearing sunglasses in overcast weather to shoot you a quizzical look and tap his satchel if you’re looking to score some drugs.
- The majority age of consent between adults is 18 years. Prostitution is legal for those above the age of 18, but not regularly publicised - much of the marketing for that sort of thing is performed over the internet or as graffiti in a bar toilet or phone booth.
- Mertagnian citizens are allowed to purchase weapons for personal use, however the category of weapon an individual is able to purchase varies wildly depending on the province, with rural provinces typically allowing larger weapons and open carrying. Ammunition is regulated, with a similar system to the narcotics quota in place in Mertagne's weapons shops. A pervasive culture regarding guns as dangerous tools for hunting has meant that firearms are rarely adopted in more 'civilised' areas, such as the nation's major cities.

Mertagne's currency is the Mertagnian Ducat, which has an exchange rate of approximately 1 NSD to 4 MDU. This has increased from approximately 5 MDU two years ago, as the economy of Mertagne is moving from strength to strength. The currency is no longer pegged to the Euran Pound (and thus the NSD), as the Mertagnian government has enacted a silver standard by which to regulate the currency. Sales tax varies on province, but is always included on the price of the item on the shelf.

More information surrounding Mertagne is available in its factbook (now featuring pictures! wow! go over there and upvote it!), and a map can be found here.

Stadium Information

Image
A map of Mertagne's fifteen largest stadiums. Your nations will play in some of these depending on the group they've been drawn into.

For each matchday, the first game listed within a group will be played in the first stadium listed here. For example, on Matchday 1, 2v9 in groups A & B will take place at The Ring Tank Stadium - albeit at different times in-character!

Northern Mertagne: Groups A & B
The Ring Tank Stadium, Ostosaide, Harridan (Capacity, 54,000)
Located in Ostosaide, this stadium is home to Octosaide, and as the name suggests, boasts the region's largest enclosed aquarium on the outside of the stadium. Large enough for sea creatures of all types to enjoy their lives, the aquarium is carefully maintained by a complex climate control system, which has recently been upgraded in an effort to avoid promoting the growth of a thick green algae that had previously covered the stadium. Visitors to the stadium can view the aquatic flora and fauna from two angles - outside the stadium, with binoculars at regular viewing points around it, or from the inside at the Ring Tank Aquatic Viewing Centre. The pitch, located inside and away from the view of the aquarium, is well kept and its 54,000 seats are coloured in the blue and yellow of the local side.

Keers Dock Pitch, Keers, Plitterland (Capacity: 68,750)
The Keers Dock Pitch has stands on three sides only, with the north side exposed to the coast and waters of the Grinshem Sea, which sits to Mertagne's north. Keers Kannoneers, of which the stadium's yellow and white seating commemorates, are known for having a betting pool amongst their players as to when the next ball is going to be punted by an opponent out of the stadium and into the ocean, with the added bonus and complexity of a series of large floating navigational buoys on the waterfront with point values painted on them. The nearby beach at Keers is regularly visited by children in the hours after a match, to search for these lost footballs. Finding one bobbing on the ocean currents usually means you have to have a kickabout with the other children. Just watch for seagulls - if your white seat at this stadium doesn't quite match a pattern with the seats around it, you now know why…
This is likely to be the last major tournament played at the Dock Pitch, as its ageing stands are becoming an inconvenience and a bit of an eyesore to the residents of the rapidly gentrifying area that surrounds the stadium. The docks have moved elsewhere in Keers, and rumours are abound that a new ‘eco-friendly’ stadium will be built incorporating the architecture of the port.

Spire Campus, Blackave, Harridan (Capacity: 21,020)
Spire Campus is the collective name for not one but four football pitches at Black Peak University, in Blackave, one of Mertagne's highest towns by elevation. The campus, constructed using funds from the Mertagnian government, has been designed to fit in with the university's rustic aesthetic. Large, gothic murals adorn much of the main stands, designed by art students from the university which contrasts with the modern interior which was designed by a similar, but slightly more unhinged group of art students. A block of student housing is found opposite one of the pitches, which is regularly inhabited by Sports Science students and those that love the game, and are often found watching matches from their balconies. The party atmosphere generated by the university's students deeply contrasts with the stern, conservative members of the faculty and the local residents, which creates a unique conflict melting pot with many sides for your players and sports fans to engage with.

Crater Field, Claviers, Bardiche (Capacity: 25,890)
Crater Field is a stadium in the city of Claviers, a rugged, mountainous town that is rumoured to have been the site of a meteorite impact in ancient times. Its high altitude gives it a bit of a colder microclimate than the rest of the nation, allowing for bracing winds. Crater Field has recently been refurbished, thanks in part to corporate funding obtained by its local wool mill. The hardy folk that live in Claviers are rapidly being pushed out by a new crop of younger people with big ideas, and the tight-knit stone terraces in what has only recently grown to be a city from a large town are rapidly being gentrified. Cute new places keep on popping up, and there is likely to be an exclusive nightclub or two to get into…

Southern Mertagne: Groups C & D
Cop Limy Stadium, Neorudo, Touchpoint (Capacity: 96,300)
The Cop Limy is an iconic stadium, formerly belonging to the city-state of Leorudo in which Mertagne was first settled long after the exodus of its former owners. Home to the original Mertagnian club side that is Lehen Neorudo, and situated in the Docklands district adjacent to the mountain that comprises the sprawling city's 'Old Quarter', The Cop Limy is the premier venue for sports matches and concerts alike in the city. Upgraded several times over the years, the Stadium stands as a stereotype of the city itself - old architecture (present in the fancy gothic stonework adorning the stadium's left long side) fused with the latest building styles (a white carbon fiber donut covering the other three sides, that can be lit in a variety of colours). The stadium boasts the best in electronic scoreboard technology, and has a single long strip of interactive screens surrounding the top rafters of the interior, which have been used for purposes such as advertising, light shows, and close-up camera feeds.
Located in the stadium complex is a museum dedicated to Mertagnian football, which includes the preserved former offices of the FMF, including the very boardroom where the historic COCANEFA LigAnaia was born.

Origas Arena, Kurtz, Touchpoint (Capacity: 52,000)
The corporately sponsored Origas Arena is home to successful Mertagnian side Kurtz Herritik, now second favourite of Kurtz-born Orion Garstern Jr., who owns the stadium, but not the team. This divergence in interest has been a hot button issue for the fans of the Heretics, but tensions seem to remain at a simmer, with Garstern Jr. owning a controlling stake in his new favourite team, Chromatik Red League club Flames of the West. As his eyes are elsewhere, the Origas Arena has certainly seen better days, hurting from a lack of sponsorship funds with its now ageing wooden construction looking a bit lacklustre even after a fresh coat of red paint. The atmosphere at this stadium is a rare find, however, as the public of the now bustling city of Kurtz are die-hard football fans, and will certainly fill the stands in the event that your team's fans cannot.

Nine Star Arch, Webster, The Forkelands (Capacity: 66,500)
The Nine Star Arch is an imposing sports stadium found in the city of Webster, and is home to a source of national pride - the fierce domestic football club FMFC Ninestar. The nine large spotlights that adorn the Nine Star Arch’s titular arch have many uses; two of them during games played at this stadium are to spin and provide a light show whenever a team scores, and to provide those living in and around the city of Webster with a live score graphic, with a number of lights on opposing ends of the arch lit with the corresponding team’s home colour depending on how many goals they have scored. Many teams that play here have the dream to 'capture the arch', which is achieved by scoring more than five goals in a game, so that a majority of the nine lights on the arch are in your team's colours. The national team of Bollonich was the first international team to ‘capture the arch’, with an 8-2 victory over Gortolekua in the 83rd Cup of Harmony. Could your team be the second team to accomplish this feat?

Il Tendone, Papillio, Hardcastle (Capacity: 66,500)
Papillio’s Il Tendone, in Hardcastle province, is anything but hard - mainly constructed of a tarpaulin material, the stadium consistently ranks within the top five whenever an article about "The Top X Weirdest Football Stadiums" makes its way around the multiverse. This one won't shock you in the way that some stadiums will, but its unique construction quirk is that the entire stadium is designed to be taken down at the drop of a hat, resembling the type of construction you would see in a large circus tent. Using the best flat-pack technology with some incomprehensible name you'd find in an ancient Græntfjaller ritual, the 'Big Top', as it is affectionately nicknamed, has often been described as a large orange eyesore that could be construed as a blight on the local community. If ever that happened, though, they'd just pack up and move somewhere else.

Other Stadiums
Some of these stadiums will be used after the group stage.

Flynn Ar3na, New Fligsive, Plitterland (Capacity: 88,750)
A project that could be considered the crucible of New Fligsive, Mertagne, the Flynn Ar3na (named as it is the third stadium to bear the name) was built as a multi-year construction project between regional construction giant Flynn’s, and the Mertagnian government. The Flynn Ar3na boasts a unique design that iterates on the design of its predecessor, the Flynn Arena in Fligsive, Euran Oceania Territories. This incarnation of the stadium has sacrificed some of its seats in order to incorporate a unique art section - where the old Flynn Arena’s upper ring would have been, here instead sit thousands of individually cast faceless metal statues, each inscribed with a names of Fligsivi civilians and combatants during the Corvidae War and associated Fligsive Incident. The unique acoustics that these metal statues cause in the upper ring creates a scintillating echoing effect when sound is broadcast from the top, which provides unique opportunities in this multi-purpose stadium, home to club side New Fligsive’s Memory. It is said that sometimes, the statues create the echo of a crowd lost to time.

Dannin City Stadium, Dannin (Capacity: 85,750)
Dannin City Stadium sits in the heart of Mertagne's capital, and its unique look ensures that it's both an art piece, a functional stadium, and an eco-friendly statement all at once due to its assortment of solar panels, which wax and wane with the passing of the sun - an event that happens on occasion here in the wetlands. Home to top-tier domestic team Century Mertagne, the patriotic lime and dark green seating is sure to excite any nation that comes to play here. The stadium, shaped like a question mark or a tadpole(?), with its tail end facing south, also boasts an entertainment complex and is a hub venue for the local community.

Spectrum Stadium, Dannin (Capacity: 37,000)
The Spectum Stadium is a cavalcade of lights and sound, and this modern stadium decked in red and blue is home to bombastic side Signal Dannin. The stadium is littered with LED panels and large screens, ensuring that the stadium's very own fleet of camera drones is able to capture every moment of the game, from the beads of sweat on your goalkeeper as the opposition lines up for a penalty to the cheeky elbow that players of home side Signal Dannin are prone to whipping out against cocky opponents.
Your roleplay prompt for Matchdays 1 & 2 concerns JOURNEYS. Mertagne is easily reachable by land, air, and sea. How will your nation's athletes and sports fans be making the journey to Mertagne? Have your fans saved up a lot to be here? What has been the journey of your nation's players to make it onto the national team? Have some of them had particularly difficult or interesting journeys?

The Kingdom of Congo has long had a deep passion for football. Football was a game that was played by everybody. But Congo was never able to enter any competition owing to political unrest and governmental tyranny. However, since HM King Mwebu Kangu came to power last year, he has been able to significantly alter the nation. Young athletes were transferred to freshly constructed academies right once, while those older than 16 were permitted to play for the national team and the similarly new Congolese Premier League. He wrought a revolution. He succeeded in bringing the Congo to the 80th Baptism of Fire. Despite the fact that many parents didn't want to allow their boys to play football, many individuals were not comfortable with this. But HM was successful in persuading the people. Famous Congolese player Jonathan Barber was appointed as the team's coach by the Congolese Football Federation. He wasn't particularly well known for his match theatrics. But he did have one claim to fame, and that was football. The 18 players chosen by Jonathan Barber are all graduates of the program. It was anticipated given that it was Congo's inaugural tournament because the team was so young and unseasoned. The list was announced by the CFF:

GK 01 Roger Hansman 17 6'2
GK 41 Jambal Gonga ‌‌‍‌‌‌‌ 18 6'3
GK 31 Hangal Joreg 19 6'5
LB 12 John Gwana 18 5'8

The Illyrjan National Football Team (ILR)

The Federal People's Republic of Illyrja has always had a gravitation towards football. Ever since the Yugoslav days, Yugoslavia was a contender always. They were not the best, but they worked hard and were never a tough match. Even now, Croatia, to the North of Illyrja, is a solid footballing nation. However, they are no longer the only nation that will fight to the top of the football world in the Balkans. The recent founding of this nation has not just positioned the nation to better the lives of Muslims, the Bosnians and Albanians, but also to improve their international standing. With the establishment of the Sports Ministry under the management of the Fifth Councillor Yllka Frroku and newly appointed Sports Minister Nastasja Josipović, the importance of sports is the glue to a nation. With many new programs to alleviate youth crime and increase the development of schools, the nation of Illyrja and its Sport's Ministry has announced the creation of hundreds of football clubs nationwide. This project will views it first test drive in the 80th Baptism of Fire, which will launch these young adults into stardom. The stars of Bosnia and Albania, who refuse to identify as Illyrjan will be put to the shadows and to the past as this all under-25 squad takes the pitch to put Illyrja on the map, for good. As continued approval for this revolutionizing overhaul of the national football system, Nastasja Josipović will take the reigns as the first manager of the Illyrjan National Football Team. She will lead this squad to their destiny.

A Statement Released by Illyrjan Sports Minister and Team Manager Nastasja Josipović:
Illyrja is ready to make history. We are a young squad, but we are feisty. We want to show to the world that European Muslims are sick of being kicked around and instead we'll kick around the competition. Even after being appointed to the Sports Ministry, everyone can just see how important these games, this spotlight means, not only to the boys, but to Illyrja. I am enjoying training with them all and I can see everyone is getting more motivated every day. We plan on having good results, put simply, because we are good."

Borisuelo is a rather new footballing nation, but a skilled one indeed. "La Ficekopja" has made it to the World Cup Round of 16, and has done well in many IFAF Western Isles Cup tournaments. The rather weak nation is filled with footballing passion and joy. The team is led by striker Patrcik Krakovicek, a legend in the sports world and a top goalscorer. Coach Renoija has made a team from young midfielders, solid defenders, and outstanding finishers. Expect to see a possession-heavy play style, with many shots on goal. As of very late the team has been rusty, so they are looking for a good start.

Greetings to all other nations embarking on this footballing journey with us! The nation of Obrela is in a state of frienzied euphoria at our humble nation participating in our first ever international football tournament. The team and close to a million fans arrived by boat, docking in ports on the Grinchem Sea. Bright blue and yellow flags flutter as the fan spill off their boats, with the national team's signature chant of "Seafarers! Seafarers!" ringing through the streets. Back at home, the sale of TV sets has increased by 40%, with rural communities gathering at a neighbour's house excitedly for the game. The national team are more subdued, not allowing themselves to be caught up in the excitement. Being from an isolated Pacific island, many of the lads have never even been in a city this size, much less a football stadium with a capacity over 10,000. It's all very overwhelming, but the boys have their eyes on the prize.

OFFICIAL ROSTER

Style Mod - -2

STARTING XI
1. GK - Ige Hiroki
Age: 23
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 79.5 kg
While looking more like a study defender than a nimble goalkeeper, up and coming star Hiroki has captured the nation's imagination with his leaping saves and daring antics when faced with a penalty head on. Outside of football he is reserved and usually doesn't say much in press conferences.
2. LB - Mihara Minoru
Age: 36
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 58.3 kg
While he is getting on in years, Minoru would never pass up a chance to go to a World Cup, just once in his career. He sees it as his last gasp at glory on the international stage. Outside of football he is quite nerdy and loves chess and rock collecting.
3. CB - Koichi Shira
Age: 33
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 97.7 kg
Shira is a character on and off the pitch. He is loud, often finding himself on the wrong side of the law, and having to be dragged away from an opposing team member. He likes to go out to parties after a game, and is covered in tattoos. Fans either love or hate him.
4. CB - Ire Cornog
Age: 22
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 86.2 kg
As the youngest in an aging back line, Cornog often faces criticism from fans who doubt his ability to play. He is also a social media personality.
5. RB - Drogo Ichiru
Age: 31
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 60.1 kg
An avid reader, Ichiru spends most time off the pitch examining stats and watching back clips of their opposition attack. He is the tactical brain on the pitch, as well as an exceptionally fast right back.
6. CM - Duncan Frances
Age: 28
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 66.4 kg
Duncan is a big, well-built man. He is the type to bowl over players in the middle of the field for the ball. He is also pretty fast, and can play good balls through the middle.
7. CM - Hana Chasey
Age: 23
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 67 kg
Chasey's passion is sports. When he's not playing for his beloved Obrela, he can be found online playing sports games.
8. LW - Zach Miyashimo
Age: 25
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 57.7 kg
Miyashimo is Obrela's captain, the leader of their crew, so to speak. He takes his role seriously, and cycles up and down Obrela's mountain roads every morning, and can often be found in the gym yelling at a punching bag between swings.
9. AM - Nobuko Miller
Age: 22
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 99 kg
Miller is a pacifist type. He hopes to unite the divided world through football, and is an activist for multiple charities. He's also often the one pulling Shira off whoever he's gotten in a fight with now.
10. RW - Yuko Miyura
Age: 25
Height: 5' 5"
Weight: 73 kg
Miyura is a proud Seafarer. He loves the ocean and his playing style reflects that, with long sweeping runs, dancing around defenders like they aren't there.
11. CF - Lonnie Garza
Age: 23
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 86 kg
Garza is the finisher. Crosses, long balls, he can finish. He has the highest goal count of the team, and he of widely regarded as the best player for the casual football fans, simply because they hear his name being yelled so many times in celebration.

The Islamic Revolutionary Republic of Greater Kamilistan is a country located in the south Caucasus, Northwest of Iran, Northeast of Iraq (We got Baghdad) and Eastern Turkey. Football/Soccer which has traditionally been called both interchangeably, has been at the top of Ascvalion's past times for decades nearing a century. The sport had a state by state expansion rate which constantly kept changing the Tournament structure in Ascvalion as well giving birth to the Ascvalian rule set which added NFL/Rugby style tackling to the sport thus actually disqualifying the national team for some time. now being led by Retired Super Champions Leaguer and 5 time Champion Jean-Pierre Chaufourier of Notre City, and his Co-coach Connor Brooks Vallengard United 4 time Champion and Jean-Pierre's rival, They selected old and upcoming players across the Super Champions League.

Starting XI
1. Hakeem Olajunwon - goalkeeper, age: 24 Height: 7 feet 4 inches
with a Wingspan of 7′ 6″, Hakeem is also surprisingly nimble and can leap from seemingly nowhere to save the most certain goals. He's a jovial kind of person and loves joking about anything
2. Sean O'Neil - right back, age: 23 Height: 6 Foot
Stoic on the pitch but very Jovial at the Pub
3. Andrew Takashima - left back, age: 19 Height: 5 feet 11 inches
A amazing counter flanker Takashima can catch any attacker in a quick flash and will never get off them, which he'll do with a massive smile
4. Jonathan Ayawamat - right center back, age: 25 Height: 7 foot
while not as tall as Hakeem, Ayawamat is a Native Valerian Built like a MMA fighter that can Admittedly tackle quite aggressively but makes up for it by being a master a tricking the Attacker to shoot out of the field
5. Jose Martinez- left center back, age: 23 Height: 6 feet 4 inches
the more jovial center back Martinez works amazingly with Ayawamat with the pressure tactic
6. Robert Smith - left midfielder, age: 24 Height: 6 feet 6 inches
An expert intercepter Smith will get your attacker into the jaws of Auclair without them being the wiser
7. George Asano - center forward/ striker, age: 17 Height: 5 feet 7 inches
The youngest player on the team Asano is quick, agile, and quick witted. while just meeting them, Asano works wonders with Hale and De-Paul. the two of them happen to be Asano's Idols during his School life
8. Saul De-Paul - right winger, age: 21 Height: 6 feet 3 inches
Soft spoken but a Football wizard De-Paul always has Hale's back in any situation and can step up to any plate when called upon
9. Jedidiah Anderson - right midfielder, age: 23 Height: 6 feet 5 inches
Anderson admittedly has a pretty boring Football flair but he's an expert at disrupting even the most experienced dribblers by being simple about it
10. Mark Hale [Captain] - left winger/ can play striker on the go, age: 24 Height: 6 feet 4 inches
the Superstar of the team, Hale was a young prodigy and given credit by Vallengard United for leading them to four consecutive SCL titles and has been given player of the year in as many years, all due to his quick pace, master dribbling, and Leadership skills
11. Jean-Paul Auclair - center midfielder, age: 31 Height: 6 feet 11 inches
the oldest of the team Jean-Paul is basically the Co-captain of the team and typically given responsibility of the defense

Reserves:
#12 Eddard MacMagnus - back, age: 24 Height: 6 feet 5 inches
#13 Simon Cuéllar - back, age: 19 Height: 6 feet 3 inches
#14 William Mackenzie - back, age: 20 Height: 6 feet 4 inches

Archalit is located in the Pacific region. Its capital is Charkara, which sits nicely in its center. The nation prides itself on its welfare (which comes with its heavy taxation), its employment rate, and its healthcare, among other things. The powerful Archalitian economy is entirely socially planned and is mostly made up of Information Technology, Tourism, and Book Publishing among others. The nation contains a population of 6.364 billion and has a lot of talent buried within it.

The nation is a “Pirate’s Kingdom”, renowned for the practice of piracy being fully legalized in the nation, a total anomaly to its otherwise pacifist and compassionate policies.

In terms of football, the state is completely amateur. Archalit hasn’t competed in any major sporting event in its history and has only shown intrigue in the world of sports very recently. However, it has been able to pull together a team of its strongest players to compete in the World Cup.

NEW PORTLAND STATES BAPTISM OF FIRE 80 ROSTER

Coach: Martín Zubeldía (Huayramarca)
Zubeldía took the Portlandia NT job following the Independent Association’s Cup 17. The Baptism of Fire will be his very first post as the manager of Portlandia. Zubeldía is from Huayramarca and is a former student of Omar Caicedo, who was relieved as his duties as the Huayramarcan manager. Zubeldía uses a far more moderate system than Caicedo, who he used to coach under, however you can see Caicedo’s system in the Portlandian style of play very clearly.

Formation: 4-3-3
Style Mod: +1

Strategy: “Portlandia-Huayo”
A combonation of the tradition style of Portlandian football along with elements of Huayramarcan football brought in by Zubeldía. Zubeldía has built his system off of a more moderate version of the Huayramarcan football system engineered by Omar Caicedo, who Zubeldía coached under as an assistant for multiple years. The team plays slightly more offensive than the average team, however the defenders, particularly Owens and Daniels posted high ratings during the first game played by the National Team.

Srubnaya Culture Roster

Postby Srubnaya culture » Fri Jan 06, 2023 11:35 pm

The team you see here is composed of the best players the Srubnaya Culture has. In the last tournament they participated in, they went 0-4 and would like a chance at redemption after such a terrible performance. The star and captain of the team is Uxtamazata Neapolis, who has been playing the sport since he was a child, and has mentored basically everyone else on the squad with the exception of Palacus who left the European pro leagues after winning a championship with Liverpool FC.

Baptism of Fire 80: 1st round 6 wins

A small nation in Crimea that harbors a culture and people that otherwise is extinct trying to juggle relations with two relatively powerful nations to the north, and Turkey to the south.

OOC STUFF: This nation is a puppet of New Zoigai.

Record (W-D-L): 2-1-3

Roaster:

Goalkeeper:

#01 Kalke Soraski

One of the most well rounded Keeper of Katterimunk, the man managed to grab the Golden Glove of Katterimunk's Liga Premera twice in a row. He even showed an amazing performance at the international stage conceding only 5 goals the entire tournament in 6 games, making him one of the best keepers in the tournament. The man, playing for the Premera Champs of the first season, he showed his prowess in both the seasons.

#30 Aryank Borrakh

A replacement to the retired Shah Khalif, the Anceburn Keeper Aryank is arguably the best keeper in Liga Premera only behind Soraski. Banging 3 consecutive cleansheets in the league, one being against the offensive supergiant Vrord, Borrakh showed that he can carry Khalif's legacy forward.

Defenders:

#03 Ahan Khan - RB:

The Vrord star defender, Khan was great as a fullback controlling the defense as well as helping the attack at the wing upward. The man was a beast at keeping the attacking winger detached from the rest of the team, always on his toes to snatch the ball up causing a turnover. The man performed amazing from the right against most of the opposition, performing as the perfect replacement for Abhinav during his injury.

#15 Abhinav Shaha - RB

A more orthodox sideback, Shaha prefers to play along with the Centre back and defensive mid to trap the opposing player pressing them to commit mistakes or give up the possession completely. A speedy player, Abhinav is an amazing pressing player and along with his brother on the other end, he is capable of showing an amazing game throughout.

#04 Parukh Shayar - CB

The best defender of the season for Katterimunk, Shayar is capable of controlling the entire defensive line with good accuracy. His capability of keeping the line under control with proper pressuring and offside traps is just amazing. His offside traps were most effective in the games against Cyene where he managed to trap 3 offsides, one of which even managed to bang the net. It is hoped that he will also show his amazing game in this tourney as well.

#06 Shane Loesteen - CB:

A good defender, contrasting Shayar's cool and commanding demeanor, Loesteen is a hot headed sweeper clearing away most balls that come close to him. One of the most aggressive players, Loesteen has a high number of cards to his name.

#27 Vaibhav Shaha - LB

Brother to Abhinav, his game is quite similar to his brother. Yet he was, arguably, the weaker of the two, at least when it comes to international games. In the second season of Liga Premera, the two brothers managed to defend quite profusely for Chedo, but in the international games at Campionato, he failed to make an Impression with many board members even thinking of dropping the man.

#29 Ulter Akimov - LB

A pressing and physical player, the man can defeat any forward with his physical game. The man is the power of the team, defending like a boar. Yet he has one of the least fouls in the league. He proved his worth more in the Campionato, showing the opposition his physical strength with his powerful, yet seemingly legal tackles, saving many chances that helped carry the team to the Knockouts.

Midfielders:

#10 Garf Shinoda - CAM:

The one and only MVP, Garf is the brain of the team. The perfect Playmaker, can turn the tides of the game with perfectly timed and positioned pass that is guaranteed to go through and create a beautiful chance of scoring. Though most of the time his name does not come as his passes are mostly the 2nd Assist and hence his stats stay only in the back while his teammates shine. No wonder he is in here!

#17 Kesh Lal - CM:

Called the 'Golden Devil', Chedo midman Lal was a unique but deserved pick for the tournament. The man has shown his talent all throughout the season. His passing, his dribbling and his aggressiveness are all perfect and suited for the best mids. And even though he was not named the Mid of the year, he still is a strong talent on the squad.

#08 Rosul Arikovic - RM:

Arikovic was one of the few wingers that shined in the league last season. Having given perfectly timed crosses, he created multiple opportunities for the Xuvale strikers to score. And it is expected of him to give similar crosses to the Katteri forwards to score.

#20 Shane Robbs - RM:

The famed Robbs is the only player on this roaster that wasn't in the Premera the last season but rather was selected on the basis of his performance in the Youth Chamionship. He rumored to have signed a contract with Ipheburn, but nothing is confirmed by either the club or the player.

#07 Yuzman Aftar - LM:

The captain of the Ipheburn team and the national team, Aftar is a comparitively weak but highly agile player, capable of running through the field up and down helping in both offense and defense. And though his crosses are not as good as Arikovic's his speed and short passing make it up for it. Scoring the first international goal for Katterimunk, Aftar played amazingly throughout the cup, and continued his form through the Liga Premera giving Ipheburn their first title.

#18 Saloke Patrine - LM:

The left footed genius, Patrine was the spine of the Inaspolis team. The man playing with his quick speed and unpredictable shooting and passing capabilities with be a problem for the opposition to face. The man was named the best midfielder, and his play does keep up his name.

#21 San Kun Lee - CDM:

Called the 'Super Lee' by the fans, Kun Lee is the star of the Mando Club. The Vice-Captain, he is quick and fast making speedy plays to quickly move the ball up the field for scoring. Most of his plays are rather defensive letting the opposition keep the ball, only to find opportunities in the opposition's mistakes.

#08 Sohail Afroz - CDM:

One of the leading assisters in the first season, and the lead assister in the second season of Liga Premera, Afroz is to debut in the national team in one of the most prestigous tournaments in all of NS multiverse, the Baptism of fire. And with his most recent form as well as the team's record, it feels that Katterimunk is set to score record.

Forwards:

#22 Trish Khomov - ST:

The most well-known striker in all of the nation, Chedo striker Khomov won the Golden boot scoring 17 goals in 25 games and is a beast on the field. His amazing hat trick against Acrehull won the hearts of millions in the nation. His ability to finish and create chances on the field makes him able to switch between a Creator forward and a finishing striker on the field, making his plays unpredictable. Many deemed him unstoppable, including the Chedo Head coach Asimov, who stated that this man is here to create history.

#09 Isaac Lorenz - ST:

Isaac, the Vrord star and winner of the golden hat, had the highest number of assists in the 122 season. Called the "Flash of Football" by many Katteri, Isaac impresses scouts and coaches and antagonizes the opposing defenders with his quick movement on the field. Also, one of the best passers in the league, his chemistry with co-striker Donest is amazing, making them one of the best duo Liga Premera had ever seen, where many experts stated that the duo is destined to make history.

#24 Ankor Preistiv - CF: Star for the Inaspolis City, Ankor grew up in a poor background to rise up to stardom and become a star striker for Inaspolis. A well rounded CF, Ankor was named the Emerging Athlete of the year - the highest award won for athletics by Katterimunk athletes under the age of 18 - twice! Yet as he entered the league, he suffered an injury, causing him to miss a season and go out of form. In the first Liga Premera he performed well, but not good enough to get chance for the national team in the Campionato. But now as he showed improvement in the second season, he has been selected for the team

#19 Shoa Ahiko - LST:

The Ipheburn Creator was one of the most sought-after players in the league for his debut. Of course, he chose to stay in his home team of Ipheburn. Playing the left striker position, this man is a physical menace with amazing short and long passing skills as well as tremendously accurate shooting. The man was named forward of the year and is expected to be a starter.

Games to Play:

MD2 vs Okerne
MD3 vs Lozho
MD4 vs Strayan Rus

Astigui h'Actaegui, Votte Aerayer! // By might and by right, Forwards, Airannians!

Such will sound the chants of the fans at the matches the Airannian national team will play this Baptism of Fire; an exerpt from the national anthem, a reference to the flag of the nation: By right referring to the key, By might referring to the sword. The Airannian national team, comprised of players from the entire nation1 has arrived in Mertagne today, to partake in the Baptism of Fire - the 80th edition of the event. While in local competitions, the four kingdoms of Airannia participate individually - in multiversal events it's been deemed nothing more than proper to combine forces, when faced with the immaculate diversity of competition one could face. As a result, former manager of the Parzhinian team, Nicklas Brodan was tasked with compiling the 11 players, and various substitutes, who would represent the whole nation; all four ceremonial kingdoms, in this competition. The result is the following roster of players;
Starting 11 (Formation: 3-4-3; Style mod: -2)

1 - GK: Stergauce ja Dony
2 - LB: Viveró Décibeq
3- CB: Só Kezhinár
4 - RB: Çontre Colminge
5 - LM: Marcell Choréls
7 - CDM: Sam Allbhy captain

Additionally, the following substitutes were selected, and also travelled to Mertagne. Brodan, when asked about the large size of the selection, replied that he not only wanted to be able to utilize as many players, who haven't yet played at this level, to the best of their abilities, but also wanted to diversify his selection -- despite this, 19 out of 25 players in the total selection are Parzhinian, 4 Hmalan, and 2 Ajurti.

12 - GK: Odês Victoryá éys
30 - GK: Carm Géligne
13 - LB: Uillten Tillabois
16 - CB: Férex Pélie
17 - CB: Gérand Brassa

23 - LM: Pelleç Vánu
15- CAM: Galho Éram
19 - RM: Jus Cospéricus
20 - RM: Arton Seuny
21 - LS: Colman Umuitau
45 - LS: Pascale Gougissu
31 - CS: Évre Dorstam
22- RS: Vidêm Barossinj

These are the players who will don the blue and white (or, in case of colour-clashes, the orange), of the kit of the Airannian team, and hopefully show off to perform a new greatest feat in the history of Airannian sporting!

Additionally, a closer look at the Starting XI:

Stergauce ja Dony - Goalkeeper - 26 - Current team: QÉS
Hailing from Ascuny roi, Stergauce is nothing if not persistent; if not only that on the island of Ascuny there is very little in terms of football. Starting his career at the only local professional team (Nane, Ascuny!) in the second division, he quickly 'rose' to notoriety - in part due to his impressive 6ft6 stature.

Viveró Décibeq - Left Back - 29 - Current team: Rotoro GVG
Hailing from Téselqut, Viveró is perhaps the primary footballing export Hmal King has to offer... and when the signature of your competition is a defensive left-back, your league either isn't exactly the most exciting, or that left-back is a sight to behold. In Décibeq's case, it's both.

Só Kezhinár - Centre Back - 30 - Current team: Lydia FCCL
Hailing from Klujo, Só Kezhinár is a veteran on the Ajurti team, but his position over the Parzhinian Férex Pélie is not without contest in the combined Airannian team. Peculiar, since the two men together form the solid defensive core that led Lydia FCCL to win the latest Airannian King's Division.

Çontre Colminge - Right Back - 22 - Current team: NV Brotoque
Hailing from Camádrigne, near Sanne Armande, Çontre Colminge is part of the younger generation, who are being given a greater chance now, than they previously have been - Colminge has previously been on the Starting XI of the Parzhinian team only twice - but has been training with the squad as though he is already a mainstay on the right flank of the team.

Marcell Choréls - Left Midfield - 32 - Current team: VVV
Hailing from Obheçendus, Choréls is two things; one, a reliable force one the midfield, and two, a typical Siquecian. The former manifests itself in a dynamic player, who will work hard for possession over the ball, while the latter manifests itself mostly in post-game interviews, where he provides his simplistic, pure opinion, which often serves as comedic relief online.

Sam Allbhy - Centre Defensive Midfield - 30 - Current team: CLFS
Hailing from Sequitya drábandey, Sam Allbhy is a natural born leader. Among fans of his home team, CLFS in Cucuaddás, the phrase Sam Allbhy is a concept, an idea, a philosophy. Sam Allbhy is the only captain the Airannian team could logically have, as most if not all maneuvers by the team will flow through him. A commanding, motivated player, who will often lead the team forward with his excellent free kicks.

Eric Brittagny - Centre Attacking Midfield - 24 - Current team: QÉS
Hailing from the capital, Vorácy, Eric Brittagny is, much like Colminge, part of this "younger generation" program that Brodan seems to have enacted, taking preference over Galho Éram, who is already 33 years old. In his first match starting on the field, Brittagny impressed, scoring the opening goal - and he's been riding that high ever since (for lack of any other goals).

Bardeus Fichomcéls - Right Midfield - 23 - Current team: Lydia FCCL
Hailing from Brotoque, Bardeus Fichomcéls is the real surprise on the selection; seeing as he will be making his international debut in the first match against Kirungabi - but since he's been a lock for the second half of the regular season at his club, Lydia, who then proceeded to win the competition, his appointment is rather uncontested.

Lio Trofois - Left Winger - 26 - Current team: QÉS
Hailing from Chestrivil, Lio Trofois is the work-horse of the team in the offensive stages of the game; seldom scoring goals himself, he's capable of providing his striker with sharp cross passes, and has the mentality, speed and stamina of a hard working powerhouse, often falling all the way back when the opposing team takes a corner kick to defend the goal, and set up a potent counter-attack.

Gary Goppré - Striker - 26 - Current team: Lydia FCCL
Hailing from Folmigna, the Ajurt Gary Goppré has reached cult status on the Ajurti national team for his myriad of goals, and while that would only seem to feed into his egotistic attitude, his dominance in the striker position seems to support it even more so. Goppré is a real goalgetter, although he doesn't often score with headers, given his less than impressive stature of only 5ft7.

Khriss Garyabh - Right Winger - 22 - Current team: FC Brécelndomer
Hailing from Brécelndomer, Garyabh is another young buck in the selection, but has been tipped as the real promise of the Airannian squad; already having appeared in international matches since he was 18. Earning his salt by being the main threat of the Aerá air force, Garyabh is already well known among the public, a little cocky, but due to his young age, still has lots of time to grow and prove himself to be a leader in this team.

Derck Brodan - Coach/Trainer - 68
Brodan, from Vorácy is a known personality, who had actually gone into retirement two years ago - but if any one man would have to lead the Airannian team, it would be him -- and he knew it, too. Having earned four Airannian King's Division titles, and having been the head coach of the Parzhinian, Hmalan and Rellebois teams, there's only one true Mr. Airannia - Brodan.

1: Actually, no players from Rellebois have been selected. But uhh... they don't even have their own football league! C'est la vie, non?

To add to the information in my signature; there's no such nation as "Aeragny" - the native name of the country in the most common language is Aerágny; the English name is Airannia. I'd have named this account Aerágny if NS allowed accents in nation names, and I've have signed up under Airannia if I'd had any more foresight. I can't blame anyone for making the mistake, but at least I hope I can heed you ^^

Lionsroar - Baptism of Fire 80
Lionsroar is an archipelago with more than 2,000 islands and a lot of culture! Whether it is gastronomy, architecture, history or even sports, Lionsroar offers diversity at all levels.
Sports like basketball, American football and tennis are present in Lionsroar, but they can't compete with the popularity of football!
After years of individual island leagues and cup systems, the Loewenleague was developed. A completely new league system, mandatory for all islands and for all 16.5 million playing citizens.
And also in international football, Lionsroar plans to stand out. Besides joining the World Cup 93, the national football association LFA wants to test the appearance on the world stage in the 80th Baptism of Fire. This participation will influence the local and international football of Lionsroar.

General Information
The national team of Lionsroar - also called the Lions for obvious reason - are abbreviated with the trigram LNR. (LSR is also possible). The Lions play with yellow and black jerseys in an offensive style of play.

Archalitian Journeys

Postby Archalit » Sun Jan 08, 2023 7:59 pm

Kanoa Faye: “Hey Krystol, how many fans are coming to the games again?”

Krystol Mays: “Well, we can do the math, right? The airline industry saw a flat profit rise of $5.24M which can be roughly attributed to the games. If we assume the price of a ticket being about $131, that makes roughly 40000 on the dot.”

Kanoa Faye: “Um, how did you know those numbers?”

Krystol Mays: “Oh, to be honest, I was curious too. This is according to the numbers published by Archalit.”

Kanoa Faye: “I see… Anyways, that means 40000 people from Archalit in the stands?”

Krystol Mays: “Well, however many can fit in the stands at least. And I guess 40000 isn’t very much in a nation of 6.4 billion.”

Kanoa Faye: “Nah, I can only imagine how many will be watching from home, after all.”

-----

Duke Sondas: “Yo, Roland, you ready to play?”

Roland Baker: “Absolutely not. So, as ready as always.”

Duke Sondas: “I mean, you could guess the ball for days and still get it right, right?”

Roland Baker: “Who knows? Being lucky is just a coincidental pattern, I don’t think I can read the ball the whole game.”

Duke Sondas: “Hey, you were the one who went a whole college season with a 94% save rate, right?”

Roland Baker: “Yeah, but that’s only because I wasn’t a starter that year.”

Duke Sondas: “Right (cause they were idiots), but you are now, aren’t you?”

Roland Baker: “I don’t know. The pressure might make me guess wrong. I’m unbelievably nervous.”

Duke Sondas: “Too bad. You’ve played football before, you’ve got this.”

Roland Baker: “You make it sound easy.”

Duke Sondas: “Because it is easy.”

Roland Baker: “Whatever, see you tomorrow.”

Duke Sondas: “See ya.”

-----

The Archalitian soccer team, along with the 40000 adoring fans, came to Mertagne by plane. Unfortunately, the team has been placed in group A, the group with stadiums as small as 20000 capacity and as big as only 69000. A lot of the fans have only reserved a spot for one or two games in the group stage, and all are hoping to come together in the second half. It may be a long shot given the presence of many larger football programs in the BoF that haven’t competed for domestic reasons. Including their enthusiastic round one opponent, Congo. Fortunately for the fans, the Archalitian government houses a massive welfare system (not to mention a socially planned economy), and flight is one such industry that is heavily subsidized. A flight ticket is not exactly cheap, but for how far they’re going, it’s petty cash.

The journey of one such player on the team is rather unique. Notably, that of Hazy Marbula. They are currently on sabbatical from a racing club, of all things, after a really poor performance in the recent cross-country series tanked their team from a title. However, during their sabbatical, Hazy was approached by an Archalitian soccer recruiter for an analysis session and a tryout for the national team. Now, such an offer is not normally (or, really, ever) offered, but Hazy’s high top speed and sheer endurance were appealing for a team that lacks that combination. Also, Hazy is massively famous in Archalit, which was a huge appeal. However, Hazy had experience in all kinds of sports, and with incredible talent, Hazy was not only selected for the team, but as a starter. We’re excited to see how they perform in the BoF.

OOC: This is my very first RP, so please feel free to TG me if you have any criticism.

Roster and Staff

Manager: Jean-Alexandre Carignan
Named manager of the year a few years after repeated success in the Omnium du Montagnard with Olympique Yvesmont, Jean-Alexandre accepted the job of developing a national team program. While it took a while to finally field a team in international competition, Patriotlandian's league teams have already proved themselves in competition such as the IFCF Champion's League.

Preffered formation: 4-2-1-3
Jean-Alexandre's formation for this event will bring a mix of possession and counter-attacking style the polyvalent tactic can be adjusted easily to create favourable matchups on the field. Wingers can be asked to cross into the box or make runs at the opponents defense. When the team is out of possession or against tough opponents, the midfield can easily be clogged by bringing players back and cutting passing lanes. JAC used this tactic to great success in the past. It will now be time to see if it holds true against international competition.

Patriotlandia's attack will be spearhead by the Graham siblings. The brother and sister duo have both evolved into capable strikers. Lucien is better known for his size that he uses to overpower defenders while Heather has shown more poacher instincts by making runs and creating chances with her speed. The strikers will be flanked by Langlais and Rodin as wingers. The Union duo will play a bit further forward that they are used. Langlais will look to either cross or dribble his way in the box in order to setup a shot on goal. Rodin on the other hand will mostly stay wide. At the attacking midfielder spot, Alexandre Desrives will be the corner stone of the offense, using his passing ability to create chances off the rush or control possession. The rest of the midfield will help both the attack and defence, both players are proven box-to-boxers in league play. At the back, the two wide defenders will sometimes look to join the offense and overlap with the wingers to send numbers forwards. Bruno Vaillancourt is the most adept in this role and will no doubt pair well with Langlais skill. In the middle, centerbacks Bromont and Ranger will look to shut things down, but Bromont small stature could cause issues against taller opponents. In net, Paul Lataupe is the typical no nonsense keeper.

BREAKING NEWS - OBRELA

Reports from the Spire Campus in Blackave, where Obrela are currently training, state that substitutes Sylvester Kano and Kadon Sone have had a nasty collision prepping for Wednesday's games against Inkwellistan and Richelieu. Both have been seen by the Obrelan physios, and are expected to be back in action on Friday in their late game against the CONGOlese Republic. We asked the manager how he is feeling ahead of the upcoming onslaught of games.

Interviewer - "So, Kenji, how's the team been looking this week?"
Kenji Ohashi - "Uhhh, yeah, good, good. Roddy, he's been looking good, Garza's finishing is only getting better, so, uhh, yeah, cautiously optimistic."
I - "And how does it feel to be away from Obrela, in a country this big nonetheless?"
KO - "Uhhh, of course it does- it's very different, it's all very new... uhhh but we're not really here to see the sites, we're just here to focus on the football and hopefully to, ahh- to win."
I - "I understand that Kano and Sone have been involved in an incident in training, tell us about that."
KO - "Uhhh, so yeah, Kadon just tackled Sylv quite strongly, he uhh, he didn't mean to but- but accidents happen and there's nothing you can do about it right, so yeah, we'll see how they go and hopefully, fingers crossed they'll both be ok for Friday's match."
I - "And how do you feel you match up against Inkwellistan, or Richelieu for that matter?"
KO - "Well, both teams had good Independents Cup runs, which uhh, could work in our favour in terms of ahh, fatigue,we're more well-rested. So uhh, yeah, we'll just have to see how it goes."
I - "Thank you, good luck on Wednesday."
KO - "Thank you."

The Most Serene Republic of Naixi (pronounced nye-SHEE) is a small coastal country located in a region of the NationStates universe steeped in sporting history: Rushmore. The nation, which nearly 4 million people call home, can count itself lucky to possess a mild, warm-summer Mediterranean climate, and its largely flat and passable terrain makes it suitable for both agriculture and industrial development. It became a sovereign state mere months ago, following a drawn-out civil conflict with its eastern neighbor. This conflict, which is generally better described as a stochastic series of urban and rural armed skirmishes than a full-scale civil war, was fought over the cause of statehood for a long-underrepresented minority group.

This ethnic category, the Naixese, are the descendants of indentured servants brought to the area roughly 150 years ago to work on a then-new railroad line. As they assimilated into the local settler population, they came to be seen by the ruling elite as descending from inferior racial stock. They continued to speak a dialect of Mandarin Chinese, Naixese Mandarin, which only furthered the stereotype that Naixese people were incapable of academic pursuits. This was ironic, as tensions (which had been rising steadily for decades) finally reached a zenith approximately ten years ago because of the rapid proliferation of tech firms operating out of Naixi's two largest cities, Qiawutian and Chumeichang. The unrest began as street protests, but eventually armed conflict swept the region, particularly the east of the country. Peace agreements have been reached, but much of the nation is at least partially militarized. This is particularly true in the far-eastern city of Bao (which translates as, literally, "fort").

Today, the World Assembly classifies the Naixese economy as "good." Its aforementioned two largest cities, often referred to as the "Two Sapphires," were largely sheltered from the disruptive effects of the independence conflict in the east, and are leading cities for commerce, education, and culture. Qiawutian, the country's largest and westernmost city, is typically seen as a verdant empyrean, with many parks and nature preserves interspersed among the varied tech firms' modern concrete and glass tower blocks. Chumeichang, the country's capital and second-largest city, is usually considered a more aesthetically working class town, with its moss-covered brick buildings and repurposed warehouses. Today, both cities are equally successful at attracting the information technology industry to invest locally, and the country's very robust social safety net means whatever tech jobs lack in high wages is offset by quality-of-life programs run by the state.

Outside of the "Two Sapphires," Naixi is rougher around the edges. Close to the western metropolises, boutique wineries and country inns have sprung up, but large swathes of the rest of the country are poor. Fishing is common along the coast (for subsistence and for industry in its own right), and mining for heavy metals is a growing activity in the nation's interior. Overfishing and heavy metals mining are both seen by experts as serious long term threats to Naixi's ecology.

Culturally, too, the nation must make gains. Naixi's traditions are mostly an ersatz of wildly differing customs and its artistic output is not held in high regard. Food in particular is notoriously bad, with fish stews as popular as pepperoni pizzas (and both earning notoriety domestically and internationally for their gastronomically repellent qualities). Its sporting history is empty, with this Baptism of Fire being the first and, to date, only major competition any Naixese national team has ever participated in.

73-year-old Gan Liang is a native of Chumeichang and long-time advocate for the development of football in the region now known as Naixi. He has coached the sport at an amateur level for over 30 years, but his greatest contributions came during his time as the Program Director for the Progressive Sporting Organization of Naixi - Children's Division (PSON-C). This volunteer position, which he took during a period when he was also working full-time in the technology industry, enabled him to petition local authorities to build pitches on school grounds all over the urban spaces of the Two Sapphires. This initiative was critical to the creation of the Naixese FA and the national team, and Liang's Pitches (as they are often known) were the childhood stomping grounds for literally every Naixese player who will appear at this tournament.

Liang is affable and kind, and is famous for his likeable smile and heartwarming dad jokes. He never resolves conflicts through confrontation, always preferring to open good-faith dialogues rather than identify personal faults. The players of the national team enjoy his company, and see him as a father (or grandfather) figure of obvious national importance, though the extent to which they take him seriously as an equal is unknown.

This ambiguity over Liang's seriousness is concerning to many. Die-hard fans of football - fans who, for example, may follow the sport as it is followed abroad - see Liang as an amateur posing as a professional. They believe he is well-meaning but fundamentally undereducated in the strategic elements of the game, and feel that if football is to make any gains in Naixi, it must do so under the leadership of someone with more professional experience and tactical savvy. Liang himself agrees that the professionalization of football in Naixi is not interesting to him, which only furthers the divide between him and the sport's passionate followers.

For now, Liang is well liked enough within the Naixese FA's higher echelons that his job is quite safe. Of course, he is on the older side, and consequently all disagreements over his bona fides or professionalism may be academic. Retirement is surely an appealing option, particularly if the national team is seen to be successful at this Baptism of Fire.

Liang's pronouns are he/him.

The national colors of Naixi are sea blue, olive green, and plum, as seen on Naixi's flag. The uniforms of the national team follow this color scheme, as one would expect. The primary shirt, shorts, and socks are all in the classic shade of sea blue, with olive green and plum trim, whereas the change strip features shirt, shorts, and socks of olive green, with sea blue and plum trim.

Note: Though Chinese naming customs almost always see the surname preceding the given name, in Naixi it has become commonplace for the given name to precede the surname. This is a result of being culturally dominated over for so many decades. Efforts are being made to revert to the traditional method, but new habits die as hard as old.

LAO CHE CAI 1 GK
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

The major strong point within Naixi's virgin defense, Cai is a skinny but tall 22-year-old very much in the mold of the modern goalkeeper. He is excellent in the air and with the ball at his feet, and his positioning is seen as very good. Whatever he lacks as a shot-stopper (which is not very much lack) he more than makes up for with strong distribution.

DI NA DENG 12 GK
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

Experienced, composed, and brilliant, the 30-year-old Deng is without a doubt a match for Cai in terms of wonderful, modern, distribution-oriented goalkeeping. Her passing from the back is very good, and her vision for open players ahead is second-to-none. She is, however, quite short, and this tragically relegates her to a role as Cai's backup.

JI NING 21 GK
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

A prodigy with generational talent, Ning appeared on Gan Liang's radar a few short weeks before the start of the tournament. The 17-year-old is tall, burly, and determined, and could be seen as a useful curveball should the Blues ever need a specialist in a shootout. Aside from fantastic reflexes, though, his skill set is not on the same level as Cai or Deng.

GUO LIANG LIN 2 RB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

This tenacious right-footed full back is a great tool to have in the glove box, as he's also a great center back and good to have in an injury crisis. That's why it's such a cruel irony that the 33-year-old shattered his leg in the octofinal against New Portland States. He'll play no further part in the Baptism of Fire, and Ma Huan Yep will fill Lin's spot.

MA HUAN YEP 3 RB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

A technically adept 24-year-old left-footed full back, he's had to get into the first eleven the hard way. Liang started using Tian at left back instead, and until Lin's awful injury, that had meant Yep lost his place. Now, though, Yep is back in the team. He will try to stay wide and use his weaker right foot, but will still cut inside on his left and link with the midfield.

CHUN LAN SHAO 5 CB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

Average in height, average in pace, and average in age, the 28-year-old Shao would be an unremarkable center back were it not for the fact that she is by far Naixi's best tackler. Her lackadaisical half-sprints to close strikers down would make fans of the Blues nervous were they not always completed by decisive and well-timed wins of the ball.

XIAO NIAO DONG 6 CB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

The 19-year-old Dong is short, petite, and at first glance seems out of place in the starting XI of a competitive national team. But she is aggressive in the tackle and shows none of the inexperience one would expect from a teenager. Though she is easily beaten in the air, she shows excellent concentration with the ball at her feet and is a great passer.

JIU LING GENG 13 CB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

The 21-year-old defender Geng is not exactly an outgoing personality off the field (he's shy), nor is he a terribly confident player on it. He is not a very good passer, and his tackling ability is inferior to that of Shao and Dong, but he has something they lack: heading ability. Geng makes a great choice for when Naixi must bring on an extra defender to hold onto a lead.

HANG KI TAN 15 CB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

As tall as Geng, but too skinny to present the same aerial threat, this 23-year-old is unlikely to appear with any frequency at this Baptism of Fire. Tan is actually an above average passer of the ball, and is an okay tackler provided he's going up against very slow strikers, but he will fail every speed test opposition forwards throw at him. Injury substitute only.

GUAN CAI TSUNG 23 CB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

A mysterious utility defender, this 18-year-old is a strong passer and is good in the air. He is a liability when it comes to acceleration and pace, but he is nonetheless rumored to be on the cusp of serious game time at left back if Kee Tian's horrendous crossing continues to be an issue. Presumably, he would be used like Ma Huan Yep: as an inverted wing back.

KEE TIAN 16 LB
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

This fleet-footed 19-year-old is a specialist in stretching play, which is good because Naixi's only source of width is wingbacks. He is unlikely to be caught out by opposing wingers or wingbacks as his defensive awareness is strong. Though he is neither a good crosser nor a good passer, Tian has been one of the Blues' best players thus far and his place is safe.

TAN HUNG XUN 4 DM
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

The anchor of Naixi's midfield, this 30-year-old defensive midfielder is cautious in her forward movement and deliberate in her passing, but she is dependable. Xun is the reason her midfield compatriot Dai has such broad license to run around wreaking havoc, and her composed personality fits that role. She'll never score, but she'll play every game.

PEI HSI DAI 8 DM
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

Vicious, bad-tempered, and unsportsmanlike: Dai's been called everything. The 33-year-old is the ultimate ball-winning midfielder, hounding opposing players as they try to build the attack and delivering gruesome tackles when necessary. She is, of course, a booking waiting to happen, but she's also not at all a bad counter-attacker from deep when the need arises.

LAN FANG FEN 14 DM
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

Naixi have plenty of playmakers in the team... they will mostly be in the final third, however. Should Liang ever wish to employ a more withdrawn deep-lying playmaker, 22-year-old Fen is a great choice. He has excellent vision and decision-making for a player of his age, but he is not the best defender in the world. He'll need to improve in that area.

KIAN ZHI YUAN 10 AM C
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

If it was all about speed, this guy would be nowhere near the Naixi national team. Luckily, Yuan is a splendid midfielder in every other regard. The 27-year-old, who excels when sitting in the pocket between midfield and attack (and not moving), is a creator with superlative technical qualities. He will take all of Naixi's free kicks and wears the captain's armband.

ZONG YUAN TI 11 AM
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

When Chen Ling is on the field, Naixi have little use for Ti, but when (as it seems will be the case) Gan Liang goes with Yue Hsieh in attack, this 25-year-old will be of vital tactical importance. Why? He'll be a penetrator from midfield, in an overlapping partnership with Cao. He's not an amazing passer, but he's very composed in front of goal and has awesome pace.

SU CHEN YUEN 20 AM
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

If Yuan ever has to leave a match injured, this 32-year-old is the woman for the job, as she possesses many of the same attributes he does: she's a great passer and can be the link between midfield and attack (and, like Yuan, she's highly immobile). What Yuen is missing, however, is that bit of skill and flair. Because of that fault, she's unlikely to play much.

YUE HSIEH 7 ST
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

Hsieh may have the look of an ordinary target man (or woman, in this case), but the 26-year-old actually does a fair bit more than win the ball in the air. In addition to being tall and good at headers, she is a capable passer and may just be Naixi's best pure finisher. The one thing that makes her place in the starting eleven un-guaranteed? Pace. She's slow.

KUANG YIN CAO 9 ST
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Short but dynamic, Cao is a true false nine, in that he actually wears the number nine. The inconsistent 18-year-old is notorious for his poor composure and seems to miss the target more often than he hits it, but with his astonishing passing qualities, he just cannot be left out of the first team. He will probably assist on most goals and will put a few away himself.

CHEN LING 17 ST
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

Ling lacks many of the qualities that would make her a great forward. However, as the fastest player in the squad, her ability to capitalize on space left in behind defenders is marvelous. The 30-year-old is accustomed to long stretches of matches where she does not get a touch. She is perfectly happy if her only touch puts the ball in the back of the net.

CHONG XIAN YE 18 ST
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

Tall and strong, this 17-year-old might appear at first glance to be a target man. But the young striker is actually poor in the air, and presents a challenge for Naixi's head coach. With decent dribbling, off-the-ball movement, and finishing ability, he could be used as a lone attacking spearhead, but as Gan Liang is likely to use two strikers, Ye's selection is puzzling.

TAK HING JIN 19 ST
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Tak Hing Jin is enigmatic and tactically uneven, but the 21-year-old has obvious and undeniable talent. Full of pace (though below average in height), Jin is liable to drift wide when Naixi are out of possession, looking for pockets of space. Once the ball is won, he is ready to deploy his brilliant dribbling and passing abilities to create chances in transition.

JEN TA JIN 22 ST
Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

An extremely similar - albeit significantly more unpolished - version of his older brother Tak Hing, 17-year-old Jen Ta Jin has a promising football brain, which he demonstrates when asked to find space and make direct dribbles at defenders. However, his finishing leaves much to be desired and (particularly when compared to his brother) he is an atrocious passer.

(1) Cai

(3) Yep (5) Shao (6) Dong (16) Tian

(4) Xun (8) Dai

(11) Ti (10) Yuan

(9) Cao (7) Hsieh

The Blues' shape at this tournament will be a 4-2-2-2, with a double pivot in front of the two center backs and the full backs as the only source of width. Cai will be functioning as a sweeper keeper, and the rest of the squad will have been trained in the modern press. Yep's primary instinct is to tuck inside and function like a midfielder (the so-called inverted wing back role), but as the Blues need him to generate width, he'll do his best to perform as an orthodox wing back. Tian, too, will function as an orthodox wing back. Xun will play the role of a holding midfielder, whereas Dai will function as a segundo volante, making late runs forward when the ball is in the final third. Yuan will be an almost motionless attacking midfield pivot, while Ti and Cao will operate as a false ten and false nine respectively. Hsieh will be the team's main center forward, though her severe lack of pace could become an issue. If it does, a dizzying array of alternative options exist at striker.

Should Gan Liang wish to alter his approach, he's likely to do so in the following ways. If Hsieh cannot be used at striker, she'll be replaced by Ling, who will eliminate the need for Ti to function as a penetrating bombardier. Ti might simply be pulled in favor of another striker (Ye? One of the Jin brothers?), leaving Yuan alone in attacking midfield.

Either way, the general style of the squad is set, with a withdrawn back line, defensive mentality, no-nonsense direct passing, high-pace transitions and counter-attacks, and pressing out of possession. The style modifier below will never change.

Naixi's style modifier will be -2.

Breaking Stories on ABC

Swarms have formed at Ascvalian International Airports all across the nation in light of Ascvalion's announcement to join the Baptism of Fire (and hopefully the world cup), Ranging in the Hundreds of Thousands nearing an estimated 250,000 people that show a mere inkling of the vastness of Ascvalion, from the island chain state of Maori to the only non Valerian continental State Liberator, and the Arctic Territories to the Eden Isles in the Southern hemisphere, Fans all over the United Commonwealth and its territories have flocked to Mertagne.

This however coupled with the sad news of Ascvalian Football Legend Ethan Eden's Passing at the age of 78. The Latin Island native live a career that proved that Ascvalians living in the territories can shoot high, leading the Latin Islands team to win the National Cup three consecutive times with a further 4 separate Nation Cup Championships, along side his many Champion's League trophies for Vallengard United, and still to this date holds the highest stats in Ascvalian history, not bad for a kid who had to sell stolen soda cans at school to support his dream. Eden has scored over 767 senior career goals for club and State, and has the most goals by a player for a single club (658) this not even including his Assists and so much more. But his dream was to lead Ascvalion to the World Cup and hold the trophy for the United Commonwealth, one that was dashed when Ascvalian Football was deemed too violent and Aggressive to compete and then the team got banned from qualifying for decades. In support of the National Team and Ethen Eden, Ascvalian fans have swarmed city centers around the World and sang a tune to hype themselves up along side the National Anthem. a notable concern after this is if Mertagne is capable of hosting so many people from one nation alone considering the amount of people who came to support, however the Ascvalian spirit remains high despite the Sad news

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

In Ascvalion I was born, land of Ethan and Mark Hale,
I'll never forget the young men of the Latin Islands,
I can't explain it to you, because you wouldn't understand
how many years I cried for the finals that we missed
But that's all over, because in the United [stadium in Ascvalion]
the final against the Maxicans, Ascvalion won again, won again.

Guys, now we can dream again,
I want to win the title, I want to be a world champion
And Ethan [Eden], we can see him up in heaven,
With Don Ethan [Eden's father] and with La Maria [Eden's mother],
All rooting for Hale, All rooting for Asano, All rooting for De-Paul,
Eamus!, ¡Vamos!, Allons-y!, Let's Go!.

so without further ado,
this is Anthony Davidson, ABC News

the camera pans out to show Ascvalians of different appearance, and state culture, all begin chanting-
Let's go, Greys!, Allons-y, Greys!, ¡Vamos, Greys!, Eamus, Grey!

Kirungabi National Football Team — Baptism of Fire 80

See bottom for RP permissions

Team members

Manager: Cyril Kamembe (age: 47)

Born in the small transit village of Impangabiyaga on Statehood Day, Kirungan team manager Cyril Kamembe started his football journey as all of Kirungabi has: playing among his peers, on the banks of the twin lakes of his namesake hometown, with bushes and twigs for goals and anything as a ball. Kamembe, an ethnic Fupi, relocated to the Fupi-majority city of Imyuzure in 1985 amid economic hardship and flaring ethnic tensions in rural areas. Playing at the local Garçons du Port athletic club from 1988, Kamembe quickly honed his skills on the pitch to become one of the club's starting midfielders in the national single-level Championnat du Kirungabi de Fut in 1992, at the age of 16. Though the ensuing civil war cut his early playing career short amid the 1995 suspension of the Championnat until 2008, Kamembe returned to football at the ripe age of 34 a year after, playing for two more years before becoming manager of the GdP squad in 2017 after a small hiatus. He oversaw Championnat titles for GdP both as player and manager, including two successful championship defenses as the latter, and was selected by the Kirungabi Itangira Guhera Sporting Commission to spearhead the revival of the Kirungabi National Football Team. The team's modest performance in their international football debut, the 42nd Copa Rushmori, contrasted with another Championnat title for Garçons du Port later in the year; he has been retained for the Baptism of Fire and World Cup Qualifiers.

Assistant coach: August Abihayimana (age: 53)

Kamembe's second-hand man Abihayimana played alongside the head coach at Garçons du Port in their primes, completing the opposite midfield flank to his teammate in a near flawless partnership which netted them the 1994 Championnat title. Son of a working-class Barebare couple and born in Imyuzure, the GdP midfield star made his professional football debut three years prior to Kamembe, and the introduction of the fresh-faced Fupi player in 1992 unlocked a new level of performance in the local man. His star status initially had kept him from suffering the first blows of the Fupi genocide of the Barebare, but as the government of the People's Republic of Democratic Kirungabi began to lose its grip on power, the incitement of ethnic violence worsened. Abihayimana and his family successfully sought asylum in Græntfjall in 1996, and it wouldn't be until 2008, the year of the Championnat reboot, that the former #7 would return to the pitch. He shared one year on the field with his former teammate upon his return to football, before sticking beside him ever since in coaching roles at Garçons du Port.

Players

Off the back of a low-profile, yet solid and fruitful, Copa Rushmori debut, coach Cyril Kamembe has slightly shuffled the Kirungan National Team in a concerted effort to build synergy within the squad, while retaining the best players across all 12 domestic teams of the Championnat de Fut and further strengthening the side's defensive skills. With the lineup now expanded to 24 players, combining young, promising talents with seasoned, war-interrupted Championnat stars, the Kirungan squad for their Baptism of Fire is more ready than ever to kick-start its football history, carrying with it the lessons learned from their international football debut.

A brief acknowledgement from Kirungabi Itangira Guhera director, First Lady Musabyimana Uburiganya:
Dearest Kirungans,

Dearest Kirungans,

As our dear leader President Innocent Uburiganya and I prepare to travel to the foreign land of Mertagne to cheer on our team, our hearts burst with joy and pride at the achievements of the Kirungabi Itangira Guhera development program, and at how far our once-fractured nation has come since the end of Ikzozimbi — the cold-blooded genocide of the Barebare nation. From such a Godless and barren place, devoid of hope, brotherhood, or sense of being, it had seemed that nothing would ever manage to put the broken pieces back together — but through Kirungan resilience, grit, and determination, Kirungabi found a way to start again.

The strong leadership of the men and women of the Kirungabi Development Front across the past two decades successfully tilled our society to create the right conditions for a program such as Kirungabi Itangira Guhera, and all of its area-specific off-shoots such as the Sporting Commission, to flourish. It is through their effort, and the meticulous, unconditionally loving, and incessantly watchful eye of Innocent and I, that we have reached this landmark milestone in our country’s sporting history: our debut in the long-renowned Baptism of Fire; the ticket to the next stage of modern Kirungabi.

To our brave, strong, and intelligent Barebare and Fupi players, we say Godspeed! May His light and wisdom guide you to great and honorable success.
