Price (Unit): N$D 420 million.

Overview

- The frigate is 130 meters long, has a beam of 15 meters and draught of 5 meters.

- Displacement is 4 500 tons, 5 500 tons at full load.

- Crew is 200 men.

- The hull has been forged out of steel with composite superstructure.

- Semi-stealth capabilities.

- This ship features a Nifonese "R-21", a joint service data link system equivalent to NATO Link 16.

- Two 9-meter inflatable boats are carried.

Propulsion

- 2 shaft combined diesel and gas (CODAG).

- 2 Kojima NG-8 gas turbines, 28 000 HP each.

- 2 Kojima ND-4 diesel engines, 5 000 HP each.

- Total power 66 000 HP.

- Top speed 30 knots, top flank speed 34.45 kn.

- Maximum Range 9 000 km at 14 kn,

- Endurance 30 days.

Sensors

- All radars are controlled by Washi I-Commander fire control system merging together data from multiple sensors and displaying it on screens of relevant officers.

- Type 260 Model 2 Radar is designed to be a principal radar aboard medium and large vessels. It is a rotating, multiband PESA radar operating in C band (IEEE). It employs a single narrow for transmission and multiple for reception, plus capability for electric steering of the beams, allowing for wide area scans. Maximum range is 450 km. The radar rotates at 60 rotations per minute and has capability to support weapons. 300 targets can be tracked at once.

- Type 250 Model 1 Air Search Radar is an L-band (IEEE) 3D radar designed to complement Type 220. It is capable of detecting targets up to 350km away and rotates at 6 RPM. Use of a low - level band ensures maximum efficiency against stealth targets, which are usually optimised against X band. The radar can track 500 targets at once.

- 3x Type 115 Model 4 Fire Control Radar is a fire control radar operating in I and J bands. This radar provides continuous illumination for weapon system it is linked to. It is capable of illuminating a target up to 300km away against a high flying target.

- Type 012 Navigation Radar is an I band pulse only navigation radar with low probability of intercept with maximum reach of 90 km.

- Washi Wa-18 Electro optical system contains an integrated EU, IR, laser rangefinder and designator all combined to be able to be operated by a single operator. The system is capable of operating automatically, intelligently auto-adjusts for threat evaluation and weapons adjustment. It is capable of spotting targets at maximum range of 50km and designating targets via laser at 8km.

- Type 91 Bow-Mounted Sonar is a medium frequency active / passive sonar capable of detecting targets up to 70 km away.

- Type 80 Towed Array Sonar is a long cable full of microphones towed behind the ship. It is capable of detecting targets 120km away.

Countermeasures

- Washi A-16 is a mortar-style countermeasures launcher designed to launch decoy and chaff. It is composed of 6 130mm mortar tubes in parallel rows. Each launcher holds from 12 to 36 rounds, depending on type and size. Two sets in total have been installed.
Current ammunition option include:
* V21 Active Aecoy Round
* V18 Floating Decoy
* V71 Chaff Round
* V19 TALOS Flare

- Washi ESR is an integrated ESM and electronic warfare suite. The system is capable of intercepting signals from as far as 900 km away (deepening on power/frequency) and providing defensive electronic warfare capability by jamming radars of attacking missiles.

- Washi T-16 is a towed anti-torpedo countermeasure. The towed system contains acoustics projector connected to the warship via a cable. The system detects the torpedo's ping frequency and amplifies it 2-3 times, aiming to lure the weapon away from the ship.

- 2x Type 113 CIWS is a close in weapons system built around seven barrel 31x167mm gattling gun. The gun is gas operated allowing it theoretical rate of fire of 6 000 rounds per minute, but can be programmed to fire in 1 000, 2 000 or 4 000 rpm mode. Maximum firing range is 5 kilometres. Each CIWS contains two ammunition boxes with 1200 rounds. The system has it's own fire control radar capable of engaging targets up to 15km away as well as an electro-optical system with a laser rangefinder.

Armaments

- The frigate is equipped with 48 "Kin" VLS cells, 32 at the bow, 16 mid-ship.

First introduced in 2001, "Kin" VLS system comes in four variants, the largest of which - Kin 4 - is employed on this destroyer. The system comes in 8 - cell modules, each module weighting 12 tons. Maximum length of accepted missile is 7 meters, and each cell has 56 x 56 cm diameter. A hot launch method is used with exhaust gases being released via uptake hatch. Up to eight missiles can be launched within 10 seconds.

- Six "Tsurihito" lightweight torpedoes have been installed. Tsurihito is a 325mm torpedo weighting 300 kilograms with length of 2.9 meters. It is capable of engaging targets from 10 to 25 km away depending on speed, and targetting submerged objects up to one kilometer underwater. It is powered by an electric pump jet, and capable of "silent" running. Respondible for destroying the enemy is 35 kilograms shaped charge warhead designed to penetrate titanium/double hulls of communist submarines. Maximum speed is 50 knots. Target is acquired via active / passive acoustinc hoping. Advanced electronics allow discrimination below actual and perceived threats, decoys and f anechoic coatings. On client's demand another model of torpedo can be installed.

- The frigate is fitted with two Arakawa Type 1986 78mm naval guns. First fielded in 1986, Type 1986 is intended to counter both surface and air targets; it fires 78x640mm rounds and is famed for it's high rate of fire - 110 rounds per minute. The design is split in both over-deck and below-deck elements; the turret is made from composites and fully unmanned, thus reducing size and allowing placement on even smallest ships. The crew is composed of a gunner and three loaders. Below the deck is located a magazine housing 80 rounds in two rows; loading can be done even during firing. The rounds are stored vertically. The ammunition weights around 12 kilograms. HE, HE-FRAG, HE-AP and HE-SAPOMER rounds are available. 600 rounds are carried in total for both guns.

- At the bow there are two sets of six Anti Submarine Rocket Type 1979. Each of two sets contains six tubes of 240mm unguided ASW rockets, each having 35 kg warhead. Maximum firing range is 1500 meters. Type 1979 does not contain elements below the hull and has to be reloaded manually.

- Two Arakwa 21x149mm autocannons have mounted for defense against boarding and fast attack craft. Each of those autocannons is manually aimed and capable of delivering 1000 round/min. 600 rounds are carried.

- Four general purpose machine guns located all over the ship.

- One hangar for medium sized ASW helicopters at the stern.
