Murphtannian Premier League season 6

Well after further cancellations and struggles to rebuild following the civil war, Murphtannia has finally been able to bring back the sport all Murphtannians love. It was an interesting season, as most foreign players left the MPL bringing balance back to the league and resulting in the old order coming back. Not only this but many stars of the MPL and the national team have retired, creating teams of mostly fresh faces. However we will start with the return of Villa as MPL champions.

Villa have had a brilliant season, clinching the MPL title for the 3rd time. Not only did they win the title, it was never in doubt for most of the season. Only losing to AFC Brentford all season, who will be happy they managed to deny Villa an invincible season at least. Villa’s outstanding season can partially be attributed to Murphy, now he was no longer managing both the NT and Villa, it seems he had plenty more time for domestic football which paid off, his extensive analysis of every opponent allowed his team to always be set up in the correct way to counter the other team. This was combined with breakout seasons for Bailey in goal and Steven Murphy on the other side of the pitch. Murphy finished as the Golden ball winner, having been the top scorer this season, and looked a lot like his Dad this season. Not only has this led to him being called up to the NT but he is now the regular starting ST for Villa. At only 19 it looks like Murphtannia have another promising ST on their hands. Travis Bailey however also had another outstanding season, firmly cementing himself as the Villa Number 1. While he may only be 3rd choice for the NT, he is still a talented keeper, and largely one of the reasons Villa had a good record defensively. Making diving saves, being brave in coming out of the box, his athleticism, reactions and reflexes have garnered national attention, and possibly international attention. You’d think however if any club was going to have a good chance of keeping Bailey it’d be the league winners. While they may have won the league, cup success hasn’t been forthcoming. Villa did manage to reach a league cup final but they lost on penalties to a team that would be relegated later that season. Even worse however in the FA cup Villa lost to FC William in the Round of 16, an upset that was loved by fans across the country. Still overall a very good season for Villa as they finally return to being one of the dominant sides in the MPL.

The main story however is the one of AFC Sheffield U. Until the breakdown of Murphtannian football, AFC Sheffield U looked to be a team on the rise, even managing to finish second in their 5th season of the MPL. However this season they have seen both upset victories that shocked the nation, and a relegation that snuffed out any potential the team might have had of winning an MPL title, and left Sheffield fans in tears. I suppose we should start with disappointment. Relegation. Had you asked a Sheffield U fan if this would happen only last season they wouldn’t even have considered it, but here we are. AFC Sheffield U will be playing in the Championship next season, and if they can’t get themselves promoted soon, it looks increasingly likely that they’ll be stuck there for quite some time. However there were things for Sheffield to celebrate. Mainly the League cup win, having won on penalties, against league winners Villa. Nobody gave them a chance going into that final, and yet they have come away with silverware. Most surprisingly is the fact that they went on to win a second trophy. The Murphtannian Shield. While the trophy itself may only have existed for a year, having been a new invention to decide who would enter the Cup winners cup, CWC is still a coveted prize for a Murphtannian team. Despite being in the Championship they will get to play internationally in the IFCF, something no other relegated team could’ve dreamed of happening. Not only this but it gave them hope for the future, having beaten Liverpool City, a team that dominated the Championship this season, they will be confident that they still have a much better team than anyone else in the Championship, and will probably be favourites to get promoted next season.

Finally is the story of AFC Brentford. The overwhelming favourites for the title, mainly due to the presence of Ivann Bardzavel. While 32 now, it was expected that his presence in defence would’ve given AFC Brentford the rock solid foundation with which to go on a title charge, most people were expecting a run not too dissimilar to the one Villa enjoyed. However disappointment struck as it always does in the MPL, 15 straight poor performances, 5 defeats to start the season. It was a collapse of form like nobody was expecting to the point where Bardzavel was dropped for the first half of the season and AFC Brentford looked lost without him in defence. Eventually he managed to get back into the Manager’s good books and was a regular for the second half of the season, finding his old form again, but it was too late. Despite only losing twice in the entire second half of the season they were never able to catch Villa or Walsall, and instead found themselves in 3rd place. While they will still get to play in the IFCF next season not even coming close to the MPL title will be a big disappointment, and potentially could see Brentford go on the hunt in the next transfer market for that next big player that can push them ahead of the rest of the other MPL teams.

But that is the end of MPL season 6, next season we’ll be seeing 2 fresh faces and one returning giant of Murphtannian football. AFC Newcastle, having been on the brink of relegation for so long have finally succumbed, finally not being able to find that last minute winner, or to scrape the extra win to get them over the edge. They will finally be going down. Meanwhile the Blackburn Happies won’t be so happy anymore, it was an awful season for them but after barely managing to get a starting 11 together most games, it’s no surprise they are going down. Perhaps they will be able to stabilise in the future. That’s all for now, we’ll be seeing you next season though, for what will hopefully be another exciting season of the Murphtannian Premier League, filled with the usual twists and turns, drama, jubilation and crushing defeat.

The Murphtannian Championship season 6

One word could be used to describe this season’s Murphtannian championship. Domination. It was a major shock to Murphtannia when Liverpool city got relegated, especially given that they had Jonathon Waterson on the books at the club. Widely considered the best player in the MPL at the time. It came as even more of a shock that he agreed to stay at Liverpool following said relegation. Maybe it was money, maybe he wanted to stat pad in the MCH but either way it was clear he was too good for this league, and his presence made Liverpool too good for this league.
Liverpool not only went unbeaten, but won every game this season. With a record 182 Goal difference and a record 138 points. It was a brilliant season for City fans as they ripped apart every team in front of them. Not only have they been able to collect a title win, win if it is just the championship, they also managed to win an FA cup. It was in the FA cup that they proved they were still an MPL level team, but it was still an upset when they managed to beat AFC Walsall on pens after an entertaining 3-3 draw. It was a brilliant season for the city. The only downside was that they lost in the Murphtannian Shield, however they still get to play in the Series B champions cup, and so all they missed out on is another trophy to add to a glorious season.

Liverpool weren’t the only team having a good season though, as St Destroyer, named after one of Murphtannia’s churches, became the first religious based side to be promoted into the MPL. After it became clear Liverpool city weren’t going to slow down, the season became more a battle for the final automatic promotion place and it’s a battle that went down to the final day. With FC William and St Destroyer playing each other on the final day. FC William actually went into that game second, and needed a win or draw to stay that way, but St Destroyer managed to grab a 2-0 win, only breaking the deadlock in the 70th minute before adding a second in the 91st. The promotion scenes were marvellous and reminded fans why they all love the sport of football, unless you were an FC William fan however, where you had to brace yourself for the potential pain of the playoffs.

And the playoffs didn’t disappoint. FC William were still the favourites going into the playoffs, but when they came up against Gary FC, a team called so because every player is named Gary, they fell to a 1-0 defeat away. That was ok, they still had the home game to get the 2 goals needed to progress to the final, however they were unable to break down Gary FC, who put 10 men behind the ball and held the 0-0 draw. It was heartbreak for FC William fans who went from automatic promotion on the final day to being knocked out in the playoffs. Meanwhile Scotch City used their home advantage to full effect as well, beating the Star Trek fan alliance 2-0. They fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Enterprise stadium, but they held on for the aggregate win.

Going into the final Scotch City were favourites, they’d already beaten Gary FC twice this season and they must’ve been confident they could do it a third time. But Gary FC pulled off the unexpected. Again putting 10 men behind the ball they set and held the ball for 60 minutes, allowing Scotch city to attack again and again and again, until they tired themselves out. Nonetheless Scotch city got the first goal, with Bob Dylan smashing a ball into the top right of the net from outside the box, forcing Gary FC to play. However Gary FC had planned on Scotch City being exhausted, and so spent the final 20 minutes pelting the Scotch goal with an endless amount of crosses. Resulting in 2 goals in the 83rd and 85th minute to turn the game on its head. Winning 2-1 and for the first time, being promoted to the MPL. Ending yet another Playoff final with drama, it remains to be seen however if Gary FC can compete in the MPL, and given commentators across Murphtannia headaches.

The Asociación Yguazuense de Fútbol (AYF) is pleased to present...
The Yguazú División de Honor - Professional Season 3

The División de Honor de Yguazú is the highest tier of association football in Yguazú, a nation located in the region of Anaia with loose and remote bonds with Valladares. This competition, organized by the AYF, is played by 12 teams, most of them based in the national capital Karanday and surrounding areas, and it is particular in the sense that it works under an Apertura/Clausura system in which both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments constitute independent championships (i.e. the winners of both tournaments earn equal recognition as champions).

In both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, the 12 teams play each other in a double-round robin tournament, once at their stadium and once at their rivals' one, for a total of 22 matches per tournament. The team with the most points at the end of each tournament is crowned as champion.

The competition was played as an amateur championship for nearly 100 years, and has been historically dominated by Cerro Pintado and Olímpico, who won all but 10 out of the previous editions of the competition (48 titles for Cerro Pintado and 44 for Olímpico), with Independiente (5), Tupí (4) and Nacional (1) being the only teams able to win a championship in both the amateur and profesional eras. Albeit the league has been played to a decent standard of quality in spite of its amateurism, the AYF believes that, by turning the competition into a professional one and having the chance to enter international competition, the level of the competition and of its own teams will have an exponential growth and Yguazuense players will have their much-wanted opportunity to take themselves to new highs.

Apertura Tournament
The Apertura was the tournament that kicked off the footballing season and started with an early domination by Olímpico, who were determined to forget the fiasco that was the previous season in which they failed to get into IFCF tournaments. The Zebra reached the first Superclásico of the season on MD8 atop the standings with five wins, one draw, and a single loss on the road against Sportivo Eugenino and had now to visit a Cerro Pintado looking to set themselves on course after struggling in the start of the season. Despite the Azuleta opened up the Apertura with fireworks by giving newcomers Sportivo Itaíno a rough welcome to the top flight with a 5-0 victory at home, losses to Independiente and Tupí and a draw at home against Sportivo Eugenino had put some pressure on the shoulders of Cerro Pintado, who would only bounce back on MD6 and 7 with wins over Trinidense and Deportivo Amambay. In the end, this Superclásico ended up being sort of a turning point in the Azuleta fortunes, as they managed to prevent Olímpico from running away with the tournament title by beating them by an extremely narrow margin.

From that moment a heated two-horse race between the Yguazuenze powerhouses kicked off, with Cerro Pintado taking advantage of a couple of draws for their arch-rivals in the final rounds of the first half of the Apertura to take the lead by defeating Nacional and 22 de Noviembre. But Olímpico would also be able to capitalize on some of their rival's blunders, taking advantage of another draw for Cerro Pintado in San Eugenio to retake the lead by beating a Sol de Anaia who were doing a terrible campaign for their own standards. However, Sportivo Eugenino ended up showing that they were well capable to harm both of the Yguazuense big guns, helping Cerro Pintado to regain the lead with five matches to go by crushing Olímpico 6-0 while the Azuleta beat Trinidense again. With a meager one-point gap, Cerro Pintado visited Kilometer Zero, Olímpico's stadium, in search of a crucial win to start tipping the balance to their favor, which they managed to claim in order to extend that gap to four points and take a crucial step towards yet another championship.

And so, last matchday. Cerro Pintado with a three-point cushion hosted rock-bottom Sol de Anaia and knew that a draw would be enough to win their 47th league championship, while Olímpico had to visit and beat an Independiente side who also had several problems to deal with in this season and were far away from the top places of the table. Olímpico needed to win their match and hope for a helping hand from Sol de Anaia, who would have to beat Cerro Pintado in order to force a championship playoff between both teams. The Zebra won at La Huerta as expected, but there was no miracle from the sunny side and thus the Azuleta claimed a new championship.

Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts

12 Sol de Anaia 22 5 4 13 29 42 −13 19

Clausura Tournament
Usually the Clausura tends to be the most closely fought tournament, considering that it is at this point that the aggregate table enters into play, and most teams will be looking at both tables with attention especially now that there are international berths up for grabs. This Clausura edition seemed to be the extension of the Apertura, with Cerro Pintado and Olímpico fighting for the title and quickly moving away from the rest of teams in the league. But Cerro Pintado were not in the mood for surprises this time either, rounding up a perfect Superclásico record in the season by beating Olímpico in their two Clausura meetings and rounding up a successful defense on the last day of the season by beating Sol de Anaia and forcing their arch-rivals to settle for another set of silver medals. However, this new championship for Cerro Pintado ended up benefiting Olímpico as well, as the Zebra were able to claim the remaining CAFA LigAnaia berth by being Clausura runners-up.

With Cerro Pintado winning both the Apertura and the Clausura to claim the sole IFCF Champions League berth available, and the solid performances from Olímpico and Tupí in both tournaments to take two of the three Challengers Cup spots by finishing in second and third place of both the Clausura and the aggregate table, there was only one international spot left for four teams: Deportivo Amambay, Nacional, Sportivo Eugenino, and Independiente. Out of those, Deportivo Amambay (who unlike the other three were only in their second season in the top flight) proved to be more consistent in the first half of the season, placing fourth in the Apertura. And it seemed that they would be able to settle the entire affair in quick fashion as they claimed victories over Independiente and Nacional early into the Clausura, while also temporarily leapfrogging Tupí for third place in the aggregate table by beating them in another trip to the capital. However, the start of the second half of the Clausura was quite rough for them as they had to bite the dust four times in a row, which allowed Tupí to move away from the Rooster and both Nacional and Independiente to catch up with them. And to add even more needed spice to this battle, both sides also claimed victory over Amambay, whilst Sportivo Eugenino also entered the fight with a winning streak in the final stretch of the Clausura. And so, the four teams came to the last matchday with chances to claim the final Challengers Cup berth: Deportivo Amambay 62, Independiente 61, Sportivo Eugenino 61, and Nacional 61. Independiente had an uphill final test as they faced Olímpico, who were in their title race with Cerro Pintado, whilst Nacional hosted the relegated Sportivo Itaíno and Deportivo Amambay and Sportivo Eugenino had to kill each other. Independiente's defeat ended up dashing their IFCF chances and although Nacional beat Itaíno, the Rooster and the Pig took the decision of the last international qualifier too seriously and staged a crazy match with 10 goals, 5 players sent off and drama from start to end in which Deportivo Amambay ultimately had the last laugh as they won 6-4 and ended up claiming the final IFCF berth and becoming the first team from the Yguazú interior to qualify for a top tier international competition, in a historic day for football outside Karanday.

As for the rest of teams, Sol de Anaia tried to stage a miraculous comeback in the aggregate table after their disastrous Apertura that saw them finish last but their decent Clausura campaign was not enough to get them closer to the battle for the last Challengers Cup berth, and with the two promoted outfits Sportivo Itaíno and 22 de Noviembre finishing in the bottom two places in both tournaments and being relegated as a result, Trinidense and 25 de Marzo didn't really have any strong reasons to try and leave their mediocrity bubbles.

Aggregate Table
The aggregate table, combining the results of both the Apertura and Clausura, will decide the teams that will be entering the IFCF tournaments for the following season. Since Yguazú is currently only entitled to one berth into the Champions League, this berth will be awarded to the highest-placed tournament champion in the aggregate table (if one team wins both the Apertura and Clausura, it will automatically qualify for the CL), with the other tournament champion qualifying for the Challengers Cup instead, and along with the next two best-placed teams in this table. The Apertura and Clausura champions (or Clausura runners-up, if the same team wins both tournaments) will both qualify for the CAFA LigAnaia regardless of their placement in this table.

The Yguazú División Intermedia - Professional Season 2

The División Intermedia is Yguazú's second tier, and unlike the División de Honor, it is played under a more traditional format with 16 clubs playing each other twice for a total of 30 matches per season. The top two teams at the end of the season are promoted to the División de Honor for the following season, and will also qualify for the Liga B Champions Trophy along with the team that ends up in third place.

Just like the top tier, the Intermedia's relegation table considers the performance of teams in the division during the three most recent seasons, with the teams with the three lowest averages getting relegated at the end of the season. Teams coming from the capital Karanday and nearby areas will be relegated to Primera B Metropolitana, while teams coming from other areas of Yguazú will be relegated to Primera B Nacional.

Darmen (DAR) final site bids
IFCF Liga B Champions Trophy: National Stadium, Scott City (75,000 capacity)
Image
Darmen's biggest stadium and one of its newest too, the National Stadium is home to Series A side Royal PFC. While the running track surrounding the field may not allow for the most intimate of atmospheres, the stadium is designed to prevent as much sound as possible from leaving the stadium, making it one of the loudest places to play in Darmen.

Copa de Campeones: Northumberland Stadium, Oldtown (62,100 capacity)
Image

For a brief period the Northumberland Stadium was Darmen's preeminent stadium before being surpassed by the National Stadium. Located in Oldtown, just a 25 minute drive north of Scott City, the stadium is easily accessible from Scott City International Airport. Home to Series B side Suburban Warriors.

IUCC: Mutiny Stadium, Tilden (25,000 capacity)
Image

All your IUCC trophies are belong to us! In recognition of the University of Tilden's dominance in the latest editions of the IUCC, the DFA is submitting the largest stadium on the island, Mutiny Stadium, as host site of the IUCC final. Home to Series B side Tilden United, the stadium is just five minutes drive from Tilden Municipal Airport. While not nearly as up to date as the National Stadium or Northumberland Stadium, it is comparable to the vast majority of collegiate stadiums in Darmen and would make an excellent choice to host the IUCC final.

The Captina Company Super League

The Captina Company Super League is made up of 14 clubs located in the nation's major cities. Each of the six corporate entities sponsors their own team, while the other eight are divided between clubs that originally represented one of the two population groups; today all clubs have supporters from across the spectrum of the island's people, although many retain traditions specific to their particular origin.

The season consists of the clubs playing every opponent once between April & June then following a 2 month break, play every opponent again between September & November.

Football League of Fort McKinley

Comrade Dr L.K. Allen created the FLFM for the glory of the People's Republic, to exhibit the superiority of The Party to all who would seek true knowledge through His teaching.
Decadent Capitalist ideas are forbidden in the People's Republic and no influence of imperialist consumerism exists. All clubs are maintained through the benevolence of The Party, as Comrade Dr Allen willed it.
