WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 17 ROSTERS/RP/SCORES

Postby Lycrabon » Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:19 am

World Baseball Classic 17 - The Road to St. Catherine

Welcome to the 17th World Baseball Classic, hosted by Lycrabon. The WBC is the premier international baseball competition in NationStates Sport, and your team is one of 36 competing to become World Champions.

Teams have been drawn into 6 groups of 6 and will play each team in their group twice, once home, once on the road. For the group stages, your own team's ballpark(s) will be used.

You should now feel free to post RPs - and your rosters. A roster is a list of the names of your players - but you can include other information. This could include: positions, handedness, strengths and weaknesses, averages and statistics, WBC history, domestic history. You could also include pictures of your stadium and information about it, your uniforms, and your coaching staff. (Please try to minimize picture spam, however, please and thank you.) When each team uploads their roster information, we will be so kind and create a link from this post to their rosters for easy reference.

Rules to Follow and Live By

The Designated Hitter (DH) Rule will be used only if the home team uses the DH. If the home team does not use the DH, neither team will use the DH. If the home team has not specified (either on their roster thread or through a previous RP) the use of a DH in their stadium, then whomever RPs first will dictate whether or not a DH was used in the game.

In your Roster Posts it is helpful to include the following:

Choose my runscorers: Y / N
Choose my lineup: Y / N
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Y / N
Godmod scoring events: Y / N, any caveats
RP injuries to my players: Y / N, any caveats
Godmod injuries to my players: Y / N
Eject my players: Y / N, any caveats
Godmod other events: Y / N, any caveats

Scorination

Games will be scorinated between 7:00 - 8:00pm EST / 1900-2000 UTC every game day.

NOTE: The schedules may or may not correspond to what's listed for any particular day (as Margaret in another competition is flipping me the bird). The home-and-home will be maintained; if it happens to be not in the listed order, that is why. I'm just answering that question in case she gives me the finger here.

Game Schedule – Group Stage

The Group Stage will consist of home and home games played by each of the group participants. The total number of games played will equal 14 by the end of the Group Stage (play each team twice in your group).

Day 2: December 6

Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No. It's my lineup. I'll choose it.
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes. It's my rotation.
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: No
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Within reason; ie, if you have a bench clearing brawl, there's bound to be some ejections.
Godmod other events: Stuff like charging the mound, bench clearing bawls is fine, player anxiety, but that's about it.
Style modifier: -1.5

DH in home park: No.
Home grounds: Fleetwood Park (capacity 57,600) in Woodstock, part of the new Dave Wilson Athletic Complex.
Sarzonia Stars

Manager 4 Khalil Dennis
Bench Coach 14 Geoff Yancey
First Base Coach 38 Clem Barker
Third Base Coach 20 Lyle Menifee
Hitting Coach 44 Hank Everly
Pitching Coach 40 Ken Sutcliffe

ROSTER

Starting Rotation
34 Brad Baxter (RHP): Nicksia Nighthawks Baxter led the Sarzonian major leagues in wins (17), innings pitched (172) and strikeouts (156).
18 Chris Carlton (LHP): Portland Fishermen Unlike the other lefty starter in Sarzonia's rotation, Carlton is a hard thrower, but has learned to throw a hard curveball in addition to his big, slow curve, which serves as his off speed pitch. He also throws a sinker when necessary.
27 Brian Edwards (RHP): Lexington Flight Despite the Flight's last place finish in the Incorporated League, Edwards was an 11 game winner (11-5, 2.67 ERA). He doesn't strike out many and relies on a sinking fastball to get ground ball outs.
22 Charlie Palmer (LHP): Portland Fishermen Known for having the best changeup in all of Sarzonian baseball, he was named the first-ever Jim Palmer Award recipient for postseason MVP after leading the Fishermen to a Sarzonia Series crown.
16 Josh Campbell (RHP): Woodstock Mountaineers His performance during the Cyanea Series against Delaclava's Quinniville Conquistadors propelled the young Campbell into the starting rotation to replace the now-retired Sutcliffe.

Bullpen
32 Kenny Spencer (RHP): Saugerties Streakers Spencer is arguably the best setup man in the history of the sport in Sarzonia. He has only six saves in his career, but makes a living closing the door in the eighth inning.
29 Jay Ballard (LHP): Nicksia A specialist at getting lefthanded hitters out, Ballard made only one career start in secondary school. He threw a two-hit shutout in the state championship in that start.
33 Roger Tolliver (LHP): Avalon Aeros The lefthanded long reliever for the Aeros, he led the league with most innings pitched by a reliever (79) without making a start. His 38 appearances led the league among all relief pitchers.
17 Kerry Clark (RHP): Woodstock The leader among all of Sarzonian baseball with 29 saves, Clark has a devastating curveball and fastball. He's working on developing a change up.
39 Alvin Dryden (LHP): Rypien Rhinos Dryden is the lefty closer on the national team and will alternate with Clark depending on the opponent. Dryden led his league with 27 saves.
58 Alan Tisdale (switch-pitcher): Woodstock Lists himself as "semi-dextrous" because he's a power pitcher as a righthander, but a finesse pitcher as a lefty.
36 Calen George (LHP): Woodstock Mountaineers George really made a name for himself during the Cyanea Series by throwing two lengthy shutout outings in relief against the Quinniville Conquistadors, including a five-inning stint in Game 7.

Position Players (starters in bold)
C 10 Fred Carlton: Grovesmont Gryphons Carlton is the best defensive catcher in Sarzonian baseball. Calls a great game, threw out 44 percent of opposing baserunners. His problem: He hit .227 with only two home runs.
1B 36 Skip Hale: Woodstock Steps in to play first base in favour of the retired Everly, who joins the Stars as hitting coach. He is expected to have some growing pains in the position.
2B 6 Dewey Griffin: Avalon The sparkplug for the Aeros, Griffin led both major leagues with 44 stolen bases and nine bunt hits. He was tied for second in the league in sacrifice hits (bunts or flies).
SS 2 Chris Spontanelli: Townshend Tigers: One of the many shortstops in the Cal Ripken mold, Spontanelli led his team with 17 homers and 81 RBI. At 6'5", he's the tallest starting shortstop in Sarzonia.
3B 9 Kate Schmidt: Bristol Bears: The only female to earn a starting spot on the national team, she hit .309 to lead her team and smacked 11 home runs.
LF 19 Tyrell Gordon: Portland Set a record for most outfield assists in college or high school baseball with 133. Had only two outfield assists this season when major league teams decided not to risk running on him.
CF 23 Drew Bradley: Avalon A speedster, Bradley is known for his graceful play in center and led his league in outfield assists with nine.
RF 24 Mark Dwight: Nicksia Not much with speed or a throwing arm, but Dwight specialises in being at the right place at the right time. He led the league with a .361 batting average.

Reserves
OF 11 Micah West Grovesmont Not the fleetest of foot, but has a rocket for a throwing arm and has excellent anticipation.
OF 7 Tyler Hunter Bristol: Can play either corner outfielder position, but his throwing arm is arguably the worst in the league. Is better known for his bat.
C 13 Mario Salvidotti Avalon: Improving as a receiver, Salvidotti led his team with 21 home runs and 89 RBI.
IF 3 Russ Fraley Bristol Handled his demotion to reserve behind Schmidt with surprising grace and honed his skills as a shortstop so he could play short, third or first. He also is learning how to play second.
IF 5 Bryan Carroll Portland Extremely valuable asset to his team, he can play any position in the infield. Could serve as the emergency catcher if necessary.

Starting lineup (with the DH)
2B Griffin
CF Bradley
SS Spontanelli
1B Hale
DH Hunter
3B Schmidt
RF Dwight
LF Gordon
C Carlton

Qazox' WBC Roster

Postby Qazox » Wed Dec 01, 2010 9:12 pm

It is that time of year again to play baseball. And once again Qazox is re-building, as they have seemingly done for the past 20 years. In that time the team has slipped from perennial contender to dark horse; and sooner or later, hopefully sooner; they will emerge from this dry spell and take its place atop the baseball world once again.

WBC17 ROSTER

(Style modifier: +3)
DH will not be used in Qazox.

MANAGER: Linda Werth (1st Female Manager for Qazox)

Starting Lineup (Bats/Throws)

3B- Janet Corell (R/R): Not the prototypical leadoff hitter as Corell is not a stolen base threat. She does have a great eye at the plate and is a great fielder.

CF- Tyson McGillicutty (R/R): McGillicutty, on most other teams would be the leadoff hitter; but Werth placed him here. Great speed, good arm in center and is the best bunter on team, by far.

C- Davis Sdmar (R/R): Another great catcher in a long line of Qazoxian backstops. Strikes out a bit, but can hit to every field, and has some pop. Has good throw to 2nd, but can be beat by the elite runners.

RF- Carl Holmes (L/L): True Power hitter on team. Average range in right, but decent arm will hold many runners at 3rd. Will be the DH in games involving the DH.

2B- Jayde Sinclair (S/R): Sinclair is the only switch-hitter on team. Great range and arm at 2nd, but does have a bit of a bobbling problem. Hits righties better than lefties, but can pull ball anywhere.

LF- Emma Flint (R/R): Flint, on many teams would bat 2nd, as she is very consisent at the plate and does not strike out much. Has little to no power and is a bit erratic in left. But gets timely hits when needed.

1B- Daniel Jae (L/L): Unusual as Jae is the opposite of what most team' first-sackers are. Is probably 2nd fastest player on team and hits like a machine to every field. But another light bat that strikes out occasionally.

SS- Arthur Thomas (R/R): Lightning quick, stolen base threat. Great range and fields SS better than 99% of players out there. Drawback is that Arthur is a free-swinger and strikes out frequently.

Pitcher

In Games involving a DH, Jae and Thomas will bat 8th and 9th, with DH batting 4th. In RF, batting 7th and replacing Holmes in the field will be:
RF: Hannah Carre (R/R): Good all around player, has solid stroke to left and center and can hit for power. Doesn't pull ball to right often and strikes out on occasion. Better arm than Holmes, but takes too much time/distance to get ball if it goes past her.

Rotation (pitches/Bats)
#1- Jerri Werth (R/R): No suprise the Coach has her daughter #1. But this is not a case of nepotism. Jerri's fastball's been clocked at 100 mph; has a slider that all but disapears to righties and a circle-change that breaks lefties' wrists.

#2- Michael Hunter (L/L): Unusual pick for a #2. Fastball tops 90 rarely, but has pin-point control. That and two curves, a 11-5 that breaks bats and a side-arm curve that acts like a changeup.

#3- Sean Carey (R/R): Good fastball (94-96), good changeup and a great splitter. Has some control issues and will walk a few batters a game and might hit one or two as well.

#4- Juan Diego (R/R): Adequate fastball (91-94), throws a hard cutter and a dancing changeup. Does not have great stamina, and will likely be taken out after 85-90 pitches (6-7 innings)- INJURED DO NOT USE!

#4-Michella Brown (R/R): Emergency 4th starter due to Diego's injury. High 80's fastball, sharp changeup and a 12-6 curve. Will likely only pitch 5 innings at the most, but can go 6 in a pinch.

BENCH
INF- Mike Mazeroni
2B/SS- Janet Berra
3B/1B- Victor Fuller
OF- Yasmine Herrera
OF- Sean Vasa
OF- Carl Issen

BULLPEN
LHP- Charlene Iya
RHP- Randall Wynne
LHP- Issac Greene
RHP- Greg Chambers
Closer (R)- Robert Tokadden

DH?: No
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: Nope
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: TG me first.
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes
Godmod other events: Yes, stuff like fights, barking at the pitcher, brawls and such.

Manager: Paul Rudolf
[ The manager of the Nordics baseball team since it's founding. Rudolf has lead his squad to eight play-off berths, four division titles, four final four appearances, and of course, the big one, winning a WBC title in WBC 11. Often thought of as an 'old school' type of manager, one who preaches good baserunning, defense and manufactured runs. Though he is known to keep his starting pitching on a tight leash, if he's not regarded as one of the best managers in the world at this point, what's wrong with you guys?]
Bench Coach: Alex Cremer
1st Base coach: Albin Linder
3rd Base coach: Katrine Alberts
Pitching coach: Johann Hilgers
Hitting coach: Kathe Lohmeyer

Batting Order:
CF - Gemma Kempas (Switch/Right) #30
[ Since appearing in the big leagues, Gemma has replicated her college career. She is a high-average, low power type with speed to burn, and is prone to incredibly aggressive base running. Her presence on first guarantees an eventual attempt on second for sure. ]
RF - Kathrin Jordan (Switch/Right) #22
[ Now a veteran, Kathrin receives a significant bump up in the order. A good mix of average, power, and speed she is also the Nordics most experienced outfielder with the retirements of Marksworth and Rykov. Much will be expected of her. ]
1B - Johnny Stryker (L/L) #5
[Now a grizzled veteran at 30 years old, Stryker is still an amazing five-tool player. He hits for average. He hits for power. His speed is positively explosive on the basepaths, and he's a defensive wizard to cap it all off. He also possess many intangibles that are only boosted given his superstar status. He is a spark-plug for his team both on and off the field, thus giving him the name of "The Catalyst.". ]
C - Kevin Monroe (R/L) #6
[ Having firmly established him self as one of, if not the best hitting catcher in the WBC today, Kevin Monroe has been bumped up to the number four spot. He has never batted below .300 in his career, nor has he failed to hit at least 30 homeruns in eight years. Behind the plate he has proven to become an excellent catcher indeed when it comes to calling games and throwing out runners. Though perhaps overshadowed by Johnny Stryker, Monroe has been one of the most consistent and talented hitters in the game. ]
2B - Michael Hammer (Switch/Right) #24
[ The MVP of the 1st Keisler cup, Hammer went on to be drafted by the Nouva Yourk Nightmares, and after a brief stint in the minors has gone on to become a ROY winner. Since becoming the Nordics full time second baseman two years ago, Hammer has certainly lived up to his hype. A news article describes him thusly: "He has the potential to be the greatest offensive second baseman in the history of the Reich. He treats opposing pitchers like you or I would treat a thanksgiving turkey, carving into them mercilessly. He can hit line drives into the gap, lift the ball into the seats, and slap the ball between the infielders and the outfielders. He is not a high-ball nor a low-ball hitter. He is an any-ball hitter. Through this all though, he maintains a modest and empathetic personality. He frequently hangs his head, refusing to make eye contact with the pitcher after he hits a homerun, almost as if he is embarrassed. His parents should have probably named him "Clark" and he could undoubtedly rock a red cape and tights with the letter "M" super-imposed on the chest just as well as he does a cap and cleats. He is also a solid player on D, but is prone to make aggressive plays, such as going for the lead runner or the one breaking for the plate than the sure out. But he is an athlete and can make those diving stops and those jumping throws as good as anyone else. ]
LF - Stella Kallow (Right/Right) #22
[ With the retirement of Rykov, the Nordics will be relying on Kallow to be their power hitting outfielder. A fantastic hitter with a high average through her college career (.328) and power numbers. She can smash the ball 400 feet with great regularity. However, she is prone to mental errors both on the field and on the bases, often forgetting to hustle on those line drives, and botching easy flyouts and turning them into extra base hits for her opponents. Her 'whatever' attitude also carries over to the plate at times, as she can be called out looking here and there.
SS - Cassandra Tilgner (Left/Right) #33
[ Jill Haviland leaves some big shoes to fill at shortstop, and Cassandra Tilgner will have to make a sustained effort to prove she is a worthy heir. Despite posting some monster stats in her young career, she is a 'feast or famine' type player, lighting up for four or five hits one night and posting a hat trick the next. Her inconsistency if the reason she's not higher in the order. ]
3B - Lee Baynes (Switch/Right) #11
[ Baynes is a superb defensive third baseman, racking of three golden gloves in his four year major league career. Around the horn double plays? Barehanded scoops? Jumping throws? He can do it all. He also has a decent bat. ]

-Pitchers Spot-

Pitchers:
SP - Alexandria Dassow (Righty) #12
[ If you are expecting the gross arsenal of pitches of Sofie Behm, or the over-whelming power of Tommy Thunder you will be disappointed. Dassow is however a tremendous finesse pitcher, location and quality strikes her specialty. She has command of only three pitches, but each is money. A 92+ MPH fastball, a slider, and a circle change. ]
SP - Sofie Behm (Lefty) #20
[ Sofie is a making her fifth WBC appearance and is only 26 years old to boot. She has quite the arsenal consisting of a 93-98 MPH fastball, a cutter, a slider, a curveball, and a splitter.]
SP - Sven Grewe (Left/Left) #28
[ The young southpaw, and a star pitcher of the Keisler Cup championship run. She, like Hammer has gone on to become a star in the big leagues. She has an overpowering 98 MPH fastball, a nasty slider, a nice cutter and one of the best circle-changeups you'll see. She hits her spots but has the tendency to tilt rather badly when calls go against her. If and when that happens, she becomes extremely volatile and wild. She has even been known to break out in tears and nervous break downs on the mound. ]
SP - Lena Wölk (Right/Right) #42
[ Like Sven, Lena is also something of a power pitcher. She has a 95+ mph fastball and a 12-6 curveball, a two-seam fastball and a yo-yo of a changeup to top it all off. Lena has produced several strong seasons in the domestic league, even winning a Paul Gil award. Not subject to the emotional outbreaks Sven is.]
SP - Viktoria Growe (Right/Right)
[ Her side-arm delivery is sure to give opposing hitters fits. She has a 95+ MPH fastball, a two-seam fastball, a curve and a splitter to make up her arsenal. She is never afraid to establish the inside of the plate, and as a result she has an unusually high hit batter rate. ]

Bullpen
MR Felix Rudorffer (Right/Right)
[ Need some innings eaten up? This is your go-to guy. He has a 92+ MPH fastball, a slider and a circle-change up. He hits his spots and doesn't walk many, but he can try to over do it when it comes to throwing strikes. ]
MR Amelinda Fischer (Left/Left)
[ A left-handed sinkerballer, Fischer is another inning eater. She pitches to contact and with her nasty sinker most hitters will have trouble getting anything but a grounde off of her. She also has a cut fastball and a curve at her disposal. ]
MR Susanne Berger (Right/Right)
[ When you needy a reliever with an arsenal, look no further. This girl has a 95+ MPH fastball, a slurve, a cutter, a screwball and a splitter and good control over all of these pitches. ]
SU Alina Hauser (Left/Left)
[ Submarine delivery style throws off hitters. She makes use of a rising fastball, a two-seam fastball, a slider and a change up to get her outs. )
CP Marlene Herrmann (Right/Right)
[ She'll come in throwing darts with her 95+ fastball. She also makes use of a nasty 12-6 curveball, a splitter and a sinker to get those precious final three outs. ]

Bench:
Justin Leitner (Center fielder, Right/Right)
[ A tremendous outfield bat off the bench, Justin Leitner flashes the five-tools. In the mold of Dmitri Rykov of WBC fame, puts up a tremendous average and large power numbers. He has great speed which helps him both on the basepaths and on the outfield. Never afraid to put his body on the line to make plays. ]
Melina Clever (Right fielder, Right/Right)
[ Need both a strong arm and a good contact bat off the bench? Clever is your go-to girl. Slap-hitting and long at-bats are her thing, not extra-base hits and RBIs. However she has a cannon for an arm and great range in the outfield. ]
Rainer Kral (Third baseman/First baseman, Right/Right)
[ The corner infield's reputation for housing the sluggers of the lineup hold true with this kid. He can smash a ball into the alley or over the wall with the best of them. He is also a solid option at either position. However, a mile-long swing and a tendency to strike out have him on the bench rather than the lineup. ]
Regina Ley (Second baseman/Shortstop, Right/Right)
[ Your typical .300 hitter, Ley also flashes signs of defensive brilliance and power. She hasn't failed to hit at least 25 homeruns in the last three years. Not quite the monster Hammer is, she is still proven to be a far more consistent hitter than Tilgner. Expect the two to battle for a starting spot in the next WBC. ]

Tarrentum Falcons

The Tarrentum Sports Committee, alongside the International Baseball League and IBL Players Corporation, announce their roster, starting lineups and pertinent information for the World Baseball Classic 17. The Supreme President Cesare Italiana once again personally announced all members of the national team earlier this week as he does for most international tournaments.

Major changes were announced as teams and players drastically improved or drastically fell off the face of the earth in last year’s IBL season. Tiberius Wavi, who helmed the two playoff-appearing Falcons teams of the past two WBC’s has been replaced by Ferdinand Cossomo, the manager of the Bolonza Atomics. With a change at the head, many coaching moves were also made as well as the regular round of new faces on the roster.

Image
The newly renovated MegOil Imperium Stadium, home to the Napoliroma Legion, was the crown jewel of this year’s Keisler Cup 3 tournament. The stadium, located on Cosairi Island in the River Salai, features a bevy of luxury amenities. The stadium holds a maximum of 53,325 with 25 luxury suites ringing the foul area.

*Position: First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Coaches
Manager: Ferdinand Cossomo, 41 (97) – Cossomo has made a name for himself these past three years in the IBL as the manager of the Bolonza Atomics. The Atomics, who have appeared in three straight Championship Series, winning two, are currently rated as both the top team in the IBL and as the highest revenue-producing team.
Bench Coach: Fr. Rogerro DeSalvi, 70 (01) – Fr. DeSalvi, who coincidentally manages current IBL Champions Apollonian Monks, was brought on by Cossomo for his ability to bring a mid-level club to the Championship Series and win. DeSalvi is widely respected throughout the IBL for his cool head and calculating on-field tactics.
First Base Coach: Ruboni Kilia, 51 (10) – Kilia has been in the First Base Coaches Box for 20 years holding the position with a variety of IBL and IBML (International Baseball Minor League) teams. He has coached for Napoliroma for the past five years. Kilia also serves as the outfield instructor for the Legion.
Third Base Coach: Joe Greene, 54 (11) – “Clean” Joe Greene, as he was known during his own ball-playing heyday, is the Pitching Coach for the Riori Cannons and widely recognized as an outstanding teacher of the game. Greene was selected by Cossomo to be his Third Base Coach for his teaching ability and for his ability to knit together a true “team mentality.”

*Position: First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Pitchers
SP 1: Liona Marrada, 27, L/L (17) – Marrada’s continued dominance of the Confederation League led her to win another Illio Marcuzzio Award for the CL’s best pitcher. Most of Tarrentum are pinning their hopes of another great WBC run on Marrada’s pitching. 2.71 ERA, 17 – 4, 7 home runs allowed, 19 BB, 131 K, 1.05 WHIP, .244 OAVG, .289 BAbip, 6.89 K/BB, 9.69 K/9, 19 QS, 95.9 VORP
SP 2: Natalie Pessotto, 30, L/L (23) – Pessotto had a breakout year with the Vladgrad City Stars (Western cuba). After spending a lot of time in the minors, Pessotto was given a chance with the lowly Stars and shocked the IBL community. Her first continuous year in the big leagues netted her the AL’s Illio Marcuzzio Award. 2.65 ERA, 17 – 5, 21 home runs allowed, 33 BB, 238 K, 0.91 WHIP, .204 OAVG, .268 BAbip, 7.21 K/BB, 10.33 K/9, 23 QS, 105.4 VORP (First WBC)
SP 3: Christian Buonconte, 31, L/L (10) – Buonconte had a terrific year last year and only built on that success this year with the VC Stars. Buonconte’s 14 wins helped anchor the Stars varied success and, with Pessotto, give the Western cuban club a great One-Two punch in the next couple of years. 4.48 ERA, 14 – 8, 13 home runs allowed, 54 BB, 165 K, 1.20 WHIP, .237 OAVG, .292 BAbip, 3.06 K/BB, 8.03 K/9, 13 QS, 56.7 VORP (First WBC)
SP 4: Fironte ‘The Kid’ Sareb, 19, R/L (77) – Sareb’s career took a queer turn this past year when the Lower Marentian Rams put Sareb into their Closer role. Sareb’s performance didn’t warrant the move nor did his numbers as the Closer prove very helpful, expect a return of Sareb to the Number 1 spot next year. 4.36 ERA, 2 – 9, 19; 2 home runs allowed, 15 BB, 1 K, 1.74 WHIP, .358 OAVG, .355 BAbip, 19.0 VORP
SP 5: Bertrando Sabre, 29, R/R (18) – Sabre had a breakout year with the Napole Professors. He was named to the CL All-Star team this year as well as netting a CL Pitcher of the Month Award. Sabre’s most dominant pitch is his slider but his forkball is nearly as devastating. 3.32 ERA, 13 – 5, 17 home runs allowed, 84 BB, 119 K, 1.35 WHIP, .243 OAVG, .268 BAbip, 1.42 K/BB, 5.34 K/9, 17 QS, 84.5 VORP (First WBC)
Mid Reliever: Juliana Italiana, 25, S/R (36) – The beloved niece of Supreme President Cesare Italiana. Juliana broke the gender barrier in IBL five years ago not through political force but through sheer skill and determination. She easily handles batters with her curveball, changeup and slider. Italiana is coming off a lack-luster year with Allied League Champions Bolonza Atomics but is now a free-agent heading into the off-season. 4.20 ERA, 5 – 7, 1; 2 home runs allowed, 22 BB, 0 K, 1.41 WHIP, .291 OAVG, .287 BAbip, 24.2 VORP
Mid Reliever: Romeo Vasparian, 24, R/R (74) – Vasparian is a breaking ball specialist with the Garatia Warhounds. He was moved to the bullpen for reasons never disclosed and frequently voiced his unhappiness to the media. Vasparian is definitely testing the free agent market this offseason after his 1-year $5.6 million arbitration deal last season. 5.67 ERA, 3 – 5, 1; 5 home runs allowed, 35 BB, 1 K, 1.86 WHIP, .313 OAVG, .300 BAbip, 13 SVO, 2 BS, 12.1 VORP
Mid Reliever: Guignard Aricó, 35, L/R (7) – Aricó had one of the highest Value Over Replacement Player ratings among relievers this season and was in the Top Ten of lowest ERA for relievers. The Riverton Otters of Charlestown liked Aricó so much they extended his one-year contract for another year. They’re hoping there’s something still left in the tank. 3.28 ERA, 5 – 2, 1; 10 home runs allowed, 16 BB, 2 K, 1.20 WHIP, .270 OAVG, .252 BAbip, 24 SVO, 1 BS, 44.6 VORP (First WBC)
Mid Reliever: Ederi Sallamo, 32, R/R (40) – Sallamo changed his game in an attempt to help out the new Cotdelapoms franchise in Outremont. Sallamo moved from the Closer role to a Mid-Reliever. Most analysts scratched their heads at the move but the Cotdelapomais finished only 5.5 games out of a CL Wild Card spot. 3.09 ERA, 7 – 4, 10; 4 home runs allowed, 10 BB, 3 K, 1.37 WHIP, .310 OAVG, .305 BAbip, 24 SVO, 46.3 VORP
Setup: Sergio Árias, 23, S/R (12) – Árias made a splash with the Riori Cannons striking out 74 in his first season and saving 28 games. His closing ability helped the Cannons reach the playoffs and gave Bolonza a scare in the AL Championship Series. 6.00 ERA, 28 S, 12 home runs allowed, 41 BB, 74 K, 1.79 WHIP, .305 OAVG, .364 BAbip, 1.80 K/BB, 8.54 K/9, 37 SVO, 14.4 VORP (First WBC)
Closer: Will ‘Griz’ Franklin, 27, L/L (44) – Griz took over the Closer role from the Abnormal Mata with the Florentine Diamond Kings and managed to hurl his way to 38 Saves, tops among Closers – all without ever recording a strikeout. 4.35 ERA, 38 S, 2 home runs allowed, 27 BB, 0 K, 1.47 WHIP, .301 OAVG, .297 BAbip, 44 SVO, 27.4 VORP (First WBC)

*First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Catchers
Valerio Utteroni, 34, S/R (52) – Utteroni has been behind the plate for the Napoliroma Legion for eight years. A bench warmer on the national team since WBC 15, Cossomo has put Utteroni back behind the plate – with the caveat that if Vasparian ever starts a game, Favella will catch. Utteroni showed everyone in the league that he wasn’t washed up yet taking first in a number of statistical categories of IBL catchers including: SLG, wOBA, VORP, HR, RBI, BB, ISO, XBH and Total Bases. BA .337, .OPS 1.131, 37 HR, 135 RBI, 120 R, 71.2 VORP
Antoni Favella, 26, L/L (87) – Favella has been recognized as the rising star (next to his wife of course) in the IBL. The young catcher is still widely coveted as a prospect and may jump from Garatia when his contract soon expires. This year was a down year for the young catcher as he finished first among catchers in AVG, OBP and OPS a not so special feat as Favella was hampered by injuries, playing in only 98 games. BA .379, OPS 1.138, 23 HR, 76 RBI, 112 R, 65.2 VORP

*First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Infielders
Raefele Magaglio, 23, L/R (8) – Magaglio was the subject of a lot of praise, and much more controversy, this year. Magaglio came up to Casslaha and had a terrific award-winning rookie season with the Highlanders. The only problem was that he wasn’t awarded the Unbelievable Breakthrough Award for the IBL’s top rookies (one in each league). The 23 year old led the league among rookies in AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, wOBA, VORP and ISO but was passed over for dough-faced Orlando Zilli of the Ventili Boars. Most suspect foul play and the Brandini Security is looking into allegations of fraud and corruption. With both Zappa and Magaglio on the roster expect a drastically reduced role for the young gun. BA .368, OPS 1.102, 21 HR, 94 RBI, 94 R, 0 SB (4 CS), 69.0 VORP (First WBC)
Erni Washini, 28, R/R (14) – Washini is the force of the Trumboi Archers and has made quite the name for himself in the IBL. His uniform is the top-selling baseball uniform outside of Tarrentum due to his quick wit, good looks and self-aggrandizing style of interviews which the people of Tarrentum can’t get enough of. BA .368, OPS 1.067, 25 HR, 132 RBI, 131 R, 0 SB (2 CS), 78.9 VORP
Ferdini ‘Zappa’ Zappataro, 27, R/R (32) – Zappa changed locales again after a very successful season with the York Rangers and moved to Casslaha to play with the Highlanders. Zappataro finished an amazing second in Stolen Bases to Brenaccio Macca but is still the quickest Tarrentian on the diamond. BA .347, OPS .986, 10 HR, 85 RBI, 118 R, 57 SB (26 CS), 63.8 VORP
Xavier Gradoni, 31, S/R (18) – Gradoni plays third and first base for the Riori Cannons. He was rated as the number 1 batter in the IBL this season and is coming into the prime of his career. Gradoni was recognized as one of the top players in baseball appearing in his third-straight All-Star Game and winning the Confederation League’s Adamantium Slugger, Platinum Glove (1B) and MVP awards. BA .363, OPS 1.188, 34 HR, 98 RBI, 107 R, 68.8 VORP
Dessea ‘The Dream’ Vallena-Favella, 23, R/R (15) – Vallena-Favella once again anchored the Vladgrad City franchise at Shortstop. She played the most games in her career this year for the Stars but was on the DL more and more towards the end of the year. BA .303, OPS .991, 27 HR, 86 RBI, 103 R, 26 SB (5 CS), 45.3 VORP

*First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Outfielders
Gina Torretta, 28, R/R (12) – Torretta, who plays for the Riverton Otters of Charlestown, had a great year. She finished as the top player in 8 batting categories among Center Fielders (AVG, SLG, OPS, wOBA, VORP, HR, XBH and Total Bases). Torretta had a good WBC 16, marred by the fight with Dessea Vallena-Favella in the Falcons locker room in front of a group of tourists. BA .365, OPS 1.130, 43 HR, 126 RBI, 136 R, 7 SB (7 CS), 72.3 VORP
Nax Gatto, 31, L/L (26) – Gatto has been on the outside, looking in at a spot on the national roster for two years and Cossomo finally has given him a chance. The veteran of the Yui Grizzlies had a great year and his performance netted him the AL’s MVP award. BA .381, OPS 1.148, 44 HR, 124 RBI, 108 R, 78.3 VORP (First WBC)
Brenaccio Macca, 28, R/R (3) – Macca was the only man to outrun Zappataro on his way to the Golden Base Crown. The speedy CF stole an amazing 75 bases last year and led all outfielders with 148 runs. Cossomo went with speed over power with the selection of Macca. BA .351, OPS .962, 7 HR, 88 RBI, 148 R, 75 SB (19 CS), 47.2 VORP (First WBC)
Joe Thomas, 23, L/L (17) – Thomas, the top rookie last year, continued his award-winning ways for the Riverton Otters of Charlestown by hitting his way to the AL’s Adamantium Slugger award. Thomas’ announcement to the roster was not without controversy as Gherardo Orlandi and Armando Tover were passed over by Cossomo for the RF spot. The manager said it was more to do with Thomas’ experience and temperament than anything else. BA .394, OPS 1.077, 32 HR, 149 RBI, 124 R, 8 SB (4 CS), 65.2 VORP
Jason Skipper, 27, S/R (20) – Skipper was among the league leaders in many different categories but was not able to secure an end-of-the year award. Cossomo has stated that Skipper will be used as both a defensive substitute and as the designate hitter, when required by home rules. BA .380, OPS 1.162, 23 HR, 95 RBI, 118 R, 1 SB (4 CS), 69.2 VORP (First WBC)

Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, Lineups are posted
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes, within reason
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only to the extent of saying what player was injured. Severity will be at my discretion
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes, one per game – No bench clearing brawls with mass ejections
Godmod other events: No, except for weather.

Other factoids: The International Baseball League does not have a DH for any team. All games played at MegOil Imperium Stadium will not have a DH in the lineup. If a game is decided by one or two runs either way then my starting pitcher was taken out and a reliever was put in. This means that for a 3-2 Tarrentum victory, either my Setup or Closer got the Save.

The Zwangzug Zebras!

Numbers after the teams denote their first tournament: this is mostly for personal record keeping. RPers have free rein, though I'd ask you to justify any departures from the given lineup or rotation.

The Zebras are a defensively-minded team overall, eschewing many power hitters in favor of patience at the plate. Pitchers, likewise, tend more towards finesse than speed. There is no DH used at our home stadium, the Worm Hole (located in Spenson).

Manager: Gina Croes (FTC Crabs). Makes the team run more than you might be used to; they're by no means a running team, but they might running more than usual. Still known in Zwangzug for her rants, although she talks too fast for most of the team to understand.

Starting rotation:

#55, Martin Loomis, R/R, Zwischen Bears, 14
#18, Matthew Cieger, R/R, Nuel Panthers, 15
#11, Kayla Lutrick, R/R, Belpub Wildcats, 16

#49, Neha Kader (middle relief), L/L, Inver Millers, 17
#3, Elizabeth Racine (closer), L/L, Zwischen Bears, 17

THE WBC 17 NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

World Baseball Classic 10, 12, 15 Champions.
World Baseball Classic 7, 9, 11, 14 Runners-Up.
The Greatest Nation in WBC History*.

*- Based on the fact that even though there are two other “three-time” champions, neither of them have been to as many finals as we have.

Technical stuff:

Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, as my lineup is posted here. Follow that!
Follow my Pitching Rotation: My starting pitcher for the next game will always be announced in my RP from the previous game.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only to the extent of saying so and so was injured. I’ll determine the severity
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes on a basis of no more then one more then you eject from your own team.
Godmod other events: No, except for weather. That you can. NO NO-HITTERS/PERFECT GAMES AGAINST US UNLESS YOU ARE RANKED IN THE TOP 5 IN THE WORLD. I CONSIDER IT A GODMOD IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE THAT AND PLAYING US.

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually. If Newmanistan has given up 3 runs or less, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.
– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Head Coach- Christina Sanders (Southport)- has coached all of our teams so far.
Hitting Coach- Allyson Payne (North Charlotte)
Pitching Coach- Carrie Lynsder (Hampton)

Home Stadium for all Group Stage games will be Pocono City Stadium. The DH is NOT used.

Rotation: (pitchers bat with the same hand the pitch with)
The next wave of starters have taken over.

1A)Courtney Ratigan (RHP- Olympia)- The 27-year old ace of the Gladiators rotation continues to get better as she gets older, which might be a scary thought for some, considering her resume in the Classic is already pretty impressive. Her strength is the heat, but also has a deadly cutter, slider, and curve.

1B)Jessica Brasfield (RHP- Pocono City)- Like Courtney, Jessica (26) has become very accomplished on the field. The two are best friends off the field, making them compliment one another perfectly on the field, enjoying the fact that the WBC is a rare opportunity for them to be on the same team. Jessica, who loves to trash talk, is predominantly a fastball/curveball pitcher, but you must respect her changeup and slider.

1C) Kaitlyn Ahearn (LHP- Loudon)- Many will argue that the top pitcher for the Rockets in WBC 15 was not Ratigan or Brasfield, but that it was Ahearn, and they wouldn’t be wrong with that as the 29-year old had a great classic. Now, the southpaw who’s best two pitchers are a slider and curve looks to re-discover that form after a simply mediocre showing in the most recent classic.

1D) Brittany Castelli (RHP- Fairfield City)- The 24-year old debuted on the WBC 15, and was hot and cold, including being hammered by Tocrowkia in an playoff game. The next day, she came out of the bullpen in extra innings and shut down the Nordics, and did not allow a single run after that. Inconsistency remains an issue, and she might have to have a big Classic in order to keep this spot.

1E) Brianna Bruce (LHP- Springfield)- Brianna is a graduate of both Keisler Cup teams (U-16's in the 1st and U-21's in the 2nd), and now the 24-year old gets her second chance to pitch from the fifth spot in the WBC. With Courtney Keisler looming in the picture for the next Classic possibly, she may be competing with Castelli to see who will stay in the rotation for the future.

Bullpen: (Smaller then most because of the nation’s reliance on starters)

Cassie Herrick (LHP- South Tier)- Cassie is actually a starter with South Tier, but the 27-year old is more then happy to continue to pitch on the senior team as a reliever. Look for the southpaw, who brings the heat but also a nice cutter and slider, to act as the main long reliever in case a starter needs to be pulled early.

Michelle Harrison (RHP- Centralia)- Michelle is essentially the right handed version of Herrick, though the 32-year old is more experienced. She served as a starter in WBC’s 12 and 13, and starts with the Cougars as well. Like Cassie, when Michelle is used it will be for a 2-3 innings, at least.

Rachel Cosgrove (RHP- Tundra Falls) - Rachel will likly be assigned the middle innings, or extra innings. With the Mariners, the 24-year old is a starter, so that will be just fine with her. Her curve is her out pitch, but she will bring the heat as well.

Set up/Short Relief: Sara Schaefer (RHP- South Tier)- Sara is a versatile pitcher that could pitch in long relief, but will instead be used here. The 31-year old was widely considered our top reliever during WBC 15 as a 7th inning or an extra inning specialist before stepping into this role for the last Classic and again doing an amazing job. Unlike those above her who start, she is a natural reliever.

Closer: Erica Barrett (LHP- Southport)- Many teams might be a little apprehensive about turning over their closer role to an international rookie (though did close for the U-21's in the Keisler Cup), but the now 23-year old did well in the last Classic to return to that spot again. She is a hard thrower and mixes in a cutter and splitter to go along with it, and just when you think you might have her figured out, she’ll add a knuckleball just to keep you off balance.

Batting Order: (throws/bats)-:

1) Stacie Meadows- CF (R/S- South Tier)- The 33-year old hasn’t been quite as amazing of a leadoff hitter as Brittany Wright over the course of her career with the Rockets, but that is an unfair comparison for anyone to live up too. This figures to be her last Classic.

2) Danielle Scott- LF (R/S- Southport)- The 26-year old makes her fourth appearance in left field, and is one of those players who won’t hit many over the wall, but she will single/double the opponent to death. It is also not wise for opposing baserunners to test her arm from the outfield.

3)Courtney Weinman- RF (R/R- Tundra Falls)- Courtney has emerged as the leader of the offense. One of the top things about the 30-year old veteran to appreciate is the fact that she doesn’t look like someone who’d be a power hitter based on her physical stature, but she is. She also has a career .346 BA and averaged 42 HR’s per season.

4) Meghan Butler- 3B (R/R- Dover City)- The 32-year old needs to be feared just as much as Weinman, and is the captain of the team, otherwise. Butler’s the biggest HR threat in the lineup, averaging 48 HR’s per year, and unlike Weinman, she does look like someone who would be a power threat. She also sports a career .334 BA.

5) Kristen Wheeler- SS (R/S- Pocono City)- At 29 years of age, “Miss Clutch” now enters her prime and should continue to impress at this level. She has all the tools, hitting for average and power (averages 29 long balls a season), and has a career BA of .467 with runners in scoring position. Don’t forget about her on the basepaths either, or she will steal bases often as well.

6) Rachel Cuyler- 2B (L/L- Tundra Falls)- The daughter of Hall of Fame SS Tara Cuyler did well in her first three chances to start with the senior team. The 24-year old gets it done much like her mother did, which was hitting for average and deceptive power.

7) Julie Sexton- 1B (R/S- Olympia) Sexton was the only newcomer to the starting lineup in the last Classic when she replaced Natalie Monroe at first base, however the 23-year old was on our roster as a bench player in WBC15. After a slowish start, she picked it up late, and becomes one to watch now. She’s a similar hitter to Cuyler, though doesn’t have the same kind of power.

8) Tara Rulison- C (R/S- Centralia)- The only new player in the starting lineup, but even she is an experienced one. The 30-year old has been on the bench in the last three Classics, so she knows what this level is all about, and has worked with the pitchers leading up to this. She’s outstanding behind the plate, and that’s why she is here. But the career .269 hitter averages 14 HR’s per season, so she’s not an easy out by any means.

9) Pitcher
If DH: Courtney Stafford- MI The 21-year old appeared on WBC 15 roster as a bench player after being the cleanup batter on the U-16 team in the first Keisler Cup. Courtney is everything you would want in a middle infielder, someone who hit for average and has a great glove, all with the added bonus of being able to hit the ball of the fence. When the DH is used, Courtney will hit 7th in the batting order. Simply put her there and drop back Sexton and Rulison.

On the bench: (we have more people here then most only due to our small bullpen. It all evens out.)

Kristen Snider- C- Only to be used as a substitution behind the plate, never to pinch hit. The only WBC rookie on the roster. The 17-year old is being groomed as the future starter.
Brooke McMichael- MI
Erica Hilton- CI
Jillian Sanderson- OF
Corinne Gratton- OF
Jessica Larkin- Utility

Blue Jays' preview for WBC 17

ST. CATHERINE -- Home crowd advantage? It's possible.

The World Baseball Classic is back again, and this time, the playoff run will be here. Lycrabon won the right to host this year's incarnation, and eight stadiums will host the tournament. Summersville, Lakeview, Adrienne, New Alexanria, Saltville, Charlestown, Philipsburg and here in St. Catherine will host teams from around the world. Lycrabon's group stage home games will be at Riverside Stadium, home of the championship series, except for the home opener. That game will be at Charles Davis Stadium in Charlestown. Here's a look at the teams in our group, and our picks as to how far the Blue Jays will fly in the knockouts:

North Orus: A brand new squad, no one knows anything about them. We should sweep them easily. PROJECTION SO FAR: 2-0

Zirakul (NR): Another new team, another probable sweep. PROJECTION: 4-0

Sibirsky (49): The third-lowest ranked team participating, we think we've faced them before. We should at least split the home-and-home. PROJECTION: 5-1

Silver Beach (38): It will be the first-ever matchup with this team, but being ranked what they are, it'll be a tough out for them regradless. They could be a dangerous third-place wild card. PROJECTION: 6-2

Cassadaigua (2, and defending champions): The Dagan ladies have proven themselves: case in point, they won the thing last time. Any chance to make the semifinals, much less the championship round, hinges on a strong showing against these dangerous 'Dagans. Unfortunately for the blue and white, for us to beat them, we think it'll be a playoff matchup. PROJECTION: 6-4

Yes, we know 6-4 sucks. But then, it's only a prediction. That's why they play the games. As a famous gridiron coach said, "You play to win the game." Our prediction for the playoff run is that our playoff nemesis, Newmanistan, will end yet another run for the Blue Jays. As far as a championship prediction: Newmanistan wins their fourth title over the defending champions, in seven....pehaps with a walk-off homer into the Ohio?

“It’s just sitting there, rotting away.” Stated Emperor Michael IV to Army General Benedict Freeman. “The Secristanis bailed on the land. Probably vacationing in some paradise while their nation falls apart with no leadership at all. It no longer exists, and now, it is time for us to annex it and make it part of the Newmanistan Empire!”

“Your Highness, I thought this conversation was going to be about how we could help their people who no longer have a government. Not about conquering it. And what happens if their leaders decide to come back?”

“Then they will come back with their former land flying under the sky blue and white. Just think: complete control of the Penthoria River. There is no river more critical in One Big Island then the Penthoria, and it can be ours! If Brightonburg wants to travel to South Terra then they must pay us taxes to travel the Penthoria or they can take the long way! That’s a gold mine right there. All of the trade considerations we can get from it. You think we’re a powerful nation now. We can grow even more, and our people will be the ultimate winners!”

“Sir, I understand that. But Brightonburg isn’t just going to sit there and let us do that. Nor will the other powerful nations of North Terra. What about Cassadaigua? Do we push east all the way up to their border? I’d have to think that the Dagans might have a major issue with that.”

“I don’t care about what Cassadaigua thinks. This is about gaining control of the Penthoria. Maybe we don’t push all the way to their border. Make an agreement with Queen Cassie that allows them to expand west. Dammit, I’ll concede Lakeland to the Dagans if I need too. Conqueing Amherst should be a cinch. Cassadaigua can’t contest that. Lakeland. Screw it, they can have Lakeland. It’s a dump anyway.”

“If they get support, Cassadaigua’s military is decent enough to where there would be casualties on both sides. If Brightonburg sides with them, the tables can turn on us.”

“Brightonburg isn’t gonna give a shit about this. They are in their own world, and our relationship with King Janos II is wonderful. He knows he can’t contest the Southern mouth of the Penthoria with us though. If we give them concessions, grudgingly, they’ll stay out of it. They couldn’t care about our expansion into former Secristan. They get nothing from it. Furthermore, it is to their benefit if Cassadaigua remains in their borders. They don’t want the Dagans to become more of a western presence. Janos won’t side with them and I am not worried about it. Who helps them? World Cup bidding partner Babbage Islands? They are all the way out west. It would be expensive for them to play a role in this.”

“Have you considered about out of region sympathizers?”

“Such as? I can’t think of any non-One Big Island nation that would really give a shit if we annex what used to be Secristan. And if it’s a larger war, it’s because we have a border dispute with Cassadaigua. Why the hell would non-OBIers give a fuck about that? If Queen Cassie gets upset, we’ll see what she has to say and come to a resolution. As I said, all I really care about is Amherst and the Penthoria. I’m sure they’d be happy if we didn’t contest a move of theirs in to Lakeland, and actually supported it.”

“You really want to do this, don’t you?”

“Absolutely!”

“So when do you wish for us to take to the offensive?”

“Let’s get a move on it. The World Baseball Classic is starting up soon and that will grab the headlines. By the time they notice we’ve marched into Secristan, we’ll have taken Amherst. It’s the perfect time. It will be distracting the Dagans, too.”

“Your wish is my command, Your Highness. I’ll immediately work on plans and submit to you right away for approval.”

“Thank you, let’s make this quick and easy.”

The Cosumar Dragons
The WBC 17 Cosumar National Baseball Team

Basic Information

Team name: Cosumar Dragons
Hometown: Ramusok, Cosumar
Team colors: Dark blue and silver
About the team: World Baseball Classic 17 will be the Dragons' second WBC, after a poor debut in WBC 16. The nation is very excited for the event and television ratings of the first game have been predicted to compete very closely with socer events. The staff and team, which you can read more about later on this post, are very optimistic about the team's chances. The squad is very talented but their youth and inexperince may end up hurting them.

Stadiums

Primary Stadium: Orangila Capital Field
Capacity: 55,000

Image

Named after Cosumar's most popular soda "Orangila orange flavored soda", Orangila Capital Field is an enormous indoor baseball complex. In nice whether, the dome's roof will be open, welcoming that traditional sunny-day baseball game feel. However, if it were to rain the roof can be closed as seen in the picture above. Orangila Capital Field was completed 2 years ago and has a capacity of around 55,000. It has been selected to serve as the Cosumar Dragons' primary field for the World Baseball Classic 16.

Secondary Stadium: Royals Park
Capacity: 41,000

Image

Royals Park is a beautiful arena that serves as the home field for the Cosumarite domestic baseball league (PBL) team the Ramusok Royals. Although not as new or fancy as Orangila Field, Royals Park is legendary here in Cosumar. Royals Park is known for its beautiful green class and very cheap food (for stadium food). The Park is about 30 years old so it has decades worth of tradition and amazing moments of Cosumar baseball. This and its large capacity of 41,000 are a few of the reasons why Royals Park has been selected to be Cosumar's secondary stadium for the World Baseball Classic 16. It will serve as an alternate to Orangila Field in case of emergency and every fourth home game will be played here.

Uniform

Image

This year's Cosumar Dragons baseball uniform consists of a dark blue shirt with gray sleeves and gray pants. The hat is dark blue with a gray C in the center of it and the socks are gray with a blue stripe. The number will go in the top right corner of the front of the shirt and in the center on the back. The player's last name will be arched around the number on the back.

Coaching Staff

Manager: Don Clintson

Mr. Clintson is the manager of the Cosumar domestic team, the Centus Bruins. The Centus Bruins won the the PBL 29 (Cosumar's domestic championship) under the direction of Mr. Clintson. Don is 60 years old and loves the game. His players are well disciplined and he is very calm but is not afraid to kick up some dirt if the umpire makes a bad call.

Assistant Manager: Toby Machart

Toby is much younger than Don Clintson. Clinton is only 32 and was a Cosumar domestic baseball legend until a knee injury ended his legacy at age 27. Immediately after recovering he decided to go in to coaching since he couldn't play anymore. At 28, he became the manager of the PBL expansion team, the Olask Bulldogs. He has been at Olask for 3 years and the team has had some success. He was selected to assist Clintson with the WBC 16.

First Base Coach: Rodney Bellums

Bellums was a baseball superstar in college. He was the #1 draft pick into the PBL many years ago. After a few seasons it was clear he was a huge bust, not cut out for the big leagues. After being downgraded to the SBL (minor leagues) and disappointing even at that level, Bellums decided he was done with baseball. He tried an assortment of projects including starting businesses but none were successful. After many years he decided to go back to the game he loved: baseball-but this time as a coach. He is now 42 and is returning to baseball by being the Cosumar Dragons' first base coach for WBC 16.

Third Base Coach: Louis Capenhover

Capenhover is much different than his fellow coaches. He was never really much of a baseball player. He just loved to watch his hometown team-the Ramusok Royals. His enthusiasm for the Royals earned him the spot of bat boy at age 13. He stuck with the job for 5 or 6 years and was mentored in the rules of the game by Don Clintson. When the opening for base running coach came up a few years back-Capenhover was the best for the job. After awhile he continued to move up in the organization. Last year was his first season as Royals third base coach. With Clintson being selected to be the manager, who better to be the third base coach than his protigee Capenhover?

Jennifer’s Space

Pretty soon it will be time to do this all over again. The last Classic couldn’t have been any more amazing, and if I so desired it would have been the storybook ending to my international career. But I am still only 32 years old, and have no plans on leaving the game just yet. In fact, I will probably still be here for the next one as well. As I look at the names that will also be trying to win our third championship, as a nation, I see pretty much the last Classic roster in its entirety. This is one of those very rare occasions where we do not have any roster turnover. For us, the biggest youth movement happened between the 14th and 15th Classics, and now you are seeing a team of grizzled veterans like me that began doing this as teenagers, or our younger players now beginning to mature into their 20's and still may not have reached their prime yet. When you add all of these factors together, we end up being a team that has extremely high expectations for this Classic. Our only trip to Lycrabon will not be in the group stage, and we intend on having an extended stay in the country that will end at Riverside Stadium in St. Catherine. As you probably know by now, the nation from the Eastern Woodlands is hosting the event this year. It is their first hosting of anything significant. Which is what many people will probably say if Cassadaigua is awarded hosting of World Cup 54 with The Babbage Islands!

Most of the big nations return for this Classic, including Newmanistan, Tocrowkia, and Zwangzug. Up-and-comers like Quintessence of Dust and Tarrentum are also ready to take the next step, and the hosts won’t be a pushover, either, and there are other good teams in the top ten as well that I haven’t mentioned, and you know who they are. The sad omission of course, is Secristan, as our Western neighbor is in a period of chaos following the collapse of their government. That must be difficult for both the rich and the poor that are there now and I don’t really know how that’s gonna end up. There have been calls from the region that we should be doing something for them, but after all their corruption, it’s tough to sympathize too much. But enough about that, I guess, even though it’s grabbing more headlines in the region. Our focus will be on the nations of Sibirsky, who always plays us tough in anything, Silver Beach, Zirakul, North Orus, and of course, the hosts. Enjoy the baseball!

Qazox at WBC17

Schedule, Group Preview and WBC Predictions.

As mention before at the offical release of the Roster, Qazox is once again re-tooling/re-building/re-loading. But will it end the title drought? Most likely not. There are to many good teams now as days, unlike when Qazox dominated (WBC 6-10); and while the talent is there, there's been something missing over the past decade for Qazox. Is it due to the influx of female players? Perhaps, but with 5 titles in the past 7 WBC's going to nations that predominately have female players; that's not the answer. Qazox has had female players for the better part of the last 5 WBC's and have done rather well. Maybe the advent of the 4-person rotation? No. if anything it's made the pitchers better rested and available to pitch more crucial games. The true answer, though many Qazox fans will not believe it, is this: The World has caught up to us and in some cases surpassed us in baseball. While that may mean Qazox won't be winning back-to-back WBC's anytime soon; for the international baseball fan, it means that at any WBC there are at mininum 8-10 teams that have a ligitimate chance at taking home a title; and about 4-6 other teams that can get on a run and take a title home as well. 12-16 good teams = better baseball than just 1 or 2 dominate teams like Az-cz/Milchama were in the beginning.

SCHEDULE: (all Qazoxian home game to be played @ SaxerDome II, Saxervilla)
@ Royalsoldiers
vs. Delaclava
vs. Saugeais
@ Cotdelapoms
vs. QoD
vs. Royalsoldiers
@ Delaclava
@ Saugeais
vs. Cotdelapoms
@ QoD

A rather interesting draw, as Qazox faces 2 up-and-coming teams in Cotedelapoms and Delaclava, 2 newcomers in Saugeais and Royalsoldiers and Quintessence of Dust, co-hosts of WBC16. The Quintessence of Dust game on the final group day should prove interesting, as we ripped the QoD/Tarretum, the co-hosts of WBC16; for numerous slights and once again almost caused an international incident. Should be a fun time there, huh? As for the remainder of the schedule, its manageable, with only one set of back-to-back road games; and two sets of back-to-back home games. An 8-2 record is not out of the question; and niether is a 4-6 one. Most projections see Qazox finishing 7-3 and advancing to the playoffs.

GROUP C PREDICTIONS

(Sorry for shitty roster, my computer with a newly simmed season on is inaccessible. So few changes, and no stats.)

Coaches

Jun Zhou and Barry Pullman are sharing the job of team coach. This is Yukio Mazokuchi's 7th WBC on the coaching staff.

Pitchers

Because of our schedule (in which we play teams in ascending order of rank), the pitching rotation is in reverse, with the best pitcher (Taiyou) at #5, for the Qazox game.

5. Luke "Genocide" Moran (v. Saugeais)
100+ mph rough and ready prospect.
4. Maija "Rash" Peltosaari (v. Royalsoldiers)
The first female starter since Masami Tamagotchi, her hot temper can get the better of her excellent tools.
3. Kunika "The Brick" Okamoto (v. Cotdelapoms)
Dropped last time after criticism of his headhunting; reinstated despite no appreciable let-up in his willingness to go for the throat.
2. George Jones (v. Delaclava)
Dependable control pitcher with decent bat and glove too.
1. Taiyou Morioka (v. Qazox)
Finally realizing his potential as a true ace. His cutter is getting faster and his changeup has more break; the dreaded SLORCball remains as unhittable as ever.

Stephen Williams, Akihito Chikafuji, and Atso Silvan once again provide long relief. Isabelle "Burly" Stark, Olof Bergman, Herbie "The Herbster" Black, Wei Hsia, Tal Isaachar and team captain Mazio Mizokuchi staff the gender-non-specific-bovine pen.

Batters

As always, our batting lineup is likely to fluctuate a lot, even without taking into account platoon splits. The only major change is the promotion to starter of Ana Justina Jurkaš, who replaces Radosav Grubenšek to become Quintessence of Dust's first female WBC catcher. On days when Maija pitches, the team will be entirely female.

We don't use the DH.

C Ana Justina Jurkaš
Definitely the weakest hitter among the starters but has some occasional pop. The sturdy Ms Jurkaš rivals Anna for the "chunkiest hips" award, and is a strong presence behind the plate.
1B Anna Alaja
With another league leading season under her 40 inch belt, Anna's offensive ascendancy continues. Another good tournament would put her in sight of Emily's WBC home run record.
2B Huang Li
Probably the team's MVP in the last WBC, without hitting a single home run. An on base wizard who can press hard on the basepaths, and forms one of the WBC's best double play partnerships with Momoko.
3B Sam "Speedy" Spade
Had a terrible debut but keeps her place in the absence of many other corner infield prospects. Can probably steal home from first base; it's getting there that's proving the challenege.
SS Momoko Koumura
Momoko returns! She can bat for average like a Falcon and for power like a Nordic, run like a Rocket, field like a Zebra - and drink like a fish. No question about her HoF skill, but her motivation is under fire after sitting out WBC16 on moral grounds.
LF Sakiko Wakayabashi
The breakout player of WBC16 for the Quodites, but had a poor domestic season. She always seems to do better at the international level, in fact; but her selection ahead of Ben Zimmerman is controversial.
CF Emily Sanderson
Arguably Quintessence of Dust's best all time player, Emily's domestic form has dropped off but another good tournament is certainly not out of the question.
RF Natalia Kivistö
Still the team's best hitter, still an automatic at #2 in the lineup.
Ben Zimmerman (starts at LF, with Sakiko at DH, in +DH situations)
Annoyingly competent at everything, but you can only have three outfielders.

For pinch hitters and defensive substitutes we'll use Jun Chia, Johannes Heikelä, Lee Lü and Nea Nyman, but you can have us use anyone else I've forgotten if you want.

(I'm not sure how much sense this will make to players from the US. In the UK, schools issue reports every term, which usually contain a letter grade and a short note from the teacher. Here is an example of "God's school report" from The Brand New Monty Python Papperbok.)

Name: Things, The
Class: WBC17
Year: 7

Language - D
Very poor. Continually misuses "innings" instead of inning; makes routine lapses in basic baseball terminology that, after seven years, should have been improved by now; has little to no understanding of popular slang. Once asked whether "the smell of pine tar" was from the Karma Sutra.
Literature - B
Production in WBC16 very disappointing, but otherwise has generally responded well to challenges set.
Maths - C
7 entries, 1 semifinal place, 2 HoF players, and the world's best wig wearing guitar playing three fingered groundball pitcher. It just doesn't add up.
Biology - D
Spent much of the year working on an all-female lineup. Lacks originality.
Chemistry - A
Good rapport between teammates, mostly cordial relations with rest of world's teams, and Momoko Koumura has enough crystal meth in her locker to kill a small horse.
Physics - B
For the most part, the players capable of hitting 400 foot home runs actually seem to have the stature to back it up. Consistently fails to show working while advocating the Koumura Conjecture.
History - E
One of the least auspicious teams in the WBC. Has been around long enough, but lacks notable players and hasn't done much in the playoffs.
Geography - C
The Frosty Dome is much less imposing as a home venue than some of the venues on offer at the WBC. Has a pretty good beer selection, however.
Classics - B
I am at a loss to explain poor grades in history. Has produced some excellent work, most notably Masami Tamagotchi taking on Arrin Jarridan, but also the walk off winners against Qazox and Liventia. Recent work has shown decline in standards.
Art - E
Grey uniforms are an eyesore, and motley assortment of club caps only add to the horror of the image.
Drama - D
Has produced the occasional exciting scene. Needs work on fight scenes, and has yet to produce a single interesting romantic storyline.
RE - F
Constantly mocks the notion of the Baseball Gods, critical of canon, and failing to put their best baserunner in the leadoff spot is essentially blasphemy. Recommend hasty exorcism.
PE - B
Mostly excellent. Team includes Olympic judokas, sprinters and alpine skiers. Some reservations about catcher and 1st base, though there's no doubting their strength.
Computer Science - A+
Invented a fricking computer game.

Form teacher's note
Occasionally fails to play nicely with the other children. Has a sarcastic tendency that will land them in hot water when the others are old enough to read. Something of a bookworm.
