Marra o TrustyHand [Clan Sun] is one of the Belles' back-up goalkeepers, shirt number '16' (i.e. 'eight-and-six', i.e. 'fourteen'). She keeps a diary about her life with the team, because her mother got her to promise this, but as she has a superlative memory anyway she's mostly been jotting down little more than brief notes as reminders to herself. Because this tournament involves travel across the Multiverse, and dates don't always match up from one world to another, she has been labelling the days about which she writes with numbers relative to the Matchdays instead and hopes that she'll be able to match all of these to the appropriate dates in Bears Armed's own calendar once she has more time free in which to think about this after each season ends: So far, she thinks, she was able to do so for the first season of the qualifiers (and first half of the Matchdays). Here are some extracts from her notes from what's passed so far of the qualifiers' second half...

Date = Matchday Eight-and-seven, plus two days.

Slept well last night; beating such a high-ranked team, and so decisively -- Three-to-none! I'm still having some trouble believing that score -- shows urrs, and the other teams in this contest too, hwhat we can do now that we're well-warded agaainst that mysterious meddling; talking of that meddling, when it "re-ran" ourr match against Turori last season in an attempt to make urrs lose hrrather than keep the draw that we'd managed first time around it cancelled Hannorra Scarlett scoring a hat-trick that would have been her first for the Belles... but she managed one in thi match to replace that! Savigliane's "Swans" kept urrs mostly on the back foot during the first half, their tactics more offence-minded than even ourrs, but we still managed to keep them at bay hokay until the break and in the second half superior Ursine endurance started t0 pay off.
(Yes, I know that Hannora is Vokksur hrrather than Ursine, on average and her people don't have as much endurance as urrs; the training that coach Karramarrsar Arrnha put all of urrs through to mprove our physical condtion had helped her, though, and in the first half she'd been one of two players -- with Sarranna White -- sent far forwards to exploit potential scoring chances that never occurred, so she hadn't had to exert herslf much then.)
She "stole" the ball from Savigliiane winger Gastaldo -- one of three subs they'd brought on for the start of the second half, in her case in place of Roux -- just on ourr side of the mid-line, and then ran down the pitch passing it to-&-with White (few S. players there to try tackling either of them, as the 'Swans' had mostly surged forwards again almost as soon as play re-commenced... tyring to get a "decisive" goal hwhile they still had enough energy, maybeso?) until she could jink around goalie D'Ambrosio -- who'd come out to try intercepting her -- and pop the ball neatly into the empty net: A one-none lead for urrs less than five moments [or about seven "minutes", by foreign Humans' clocks] into that half... and then Hannora managed to double that lead on the eleveth moment, by jumping high -- higher than any Bear could, higher than the opposing players had realised she could -- to intercept a long pass between two of their midfielders and head it home hrright over D'Ambrosio's left shoulder! At least several of the other Belles out there on the pitch then decided -- individually, in most cases -- to give her chances at a "replacement" hat-trick, but it wasn't until there were only four moments left before the end of' 'normal' time and maybe as much again expected of stoppage time that a good opportunity hrreally arose _ The Swans had made a desperate attempt to claw one back, and actually got a shot on target from their striker Squarciafichi but that was caught easily by Karramarrsar Ulgha: She kicked it out to Nennu Rangh’harr, who volleyed it on to Harroya o Sarrndale, who faked-out the opposition by running towards their goal as if intending to take a shot herself but then backheeled the ball to Hannora who had a clear line of fire behindD'Ambrosio's back. Three-to-none for urrs, and none of the Savigliane Swans' efforts during hwhat rremained of the match could change that...
:)

Date = Matchday TwoEights-and-one.
"Somewhere in Valentine Z".

Before the match: It's hot.. Too, too, furless hot! I almost wish that I was fur-less myself, for true, even though I had my fur trimmed short before we came here just like all of my team-mates did. Urrgah! Lucky the humans, and the Harr;aynau, who -- as long as they rremain hydrated -- can get rid of some surplus body-heat heat by evaporting water out through their skins...

Shortly after the match, some quick notes before I collapse _ Ourr opponents here were yet another team who favoured a fairrly attacking strategy. We caught them with a counterattack around athird of the way to half-time, with the combination 0f O Sarrndale, Bruin, and Scarlett, then moving the ball down the right-forepaw side of the pitch until Bruin passed to Karra Brent in the centre and she shot at goal from just outside the box with so much force that although goalie Martina Anastasia Hedvig X got a hand to the ball she could neither deflect nor hang on to it. We went more defensive after that, hoping that lone goal would be enough, so wouln't overheat as quickly or give the Valentinians counter-attack opportunities in hrreturn. Held them at bay ALMOST to final whistle, by sheer determination alhough heat was hrreally getting to urrs by then, but then -- halfway through the three moments of stoppage time that the hrreferee had decided on -- their forward Holly Annemiek Gerrieke Van De Hoogte (Hwhy do they all have such lonng names?) received a high pass from midfielder Andika (Fillin the rest of his name himself, if you think it's necessary!), nodded it down to her feet, and then kicked it in a high, looping shot tht nearrly -- oh, so nearrly -- went overr the bar hrrather than under it... ad brought the score back level.
Urrgah, it's hot!!

Date = Matchday TwoEights-and-three; NorthPort; after ourr 'home' game against StrayaRoos Barrier Islands. Another draw, better than a loss of course but worse than the win that we needed. Too many of our usual starters were being rested to help hrrecovery after playing in THAT FURLESS HEAT in Valentine Z, some of our people were rary about getting too close to their Emu-birds, some of their Emu-birds were wary about getting too close to our Bears... Those changes in line-up mean that I got to be our starting goalie, but the ball hardly came close enough for me to be concerned about all game: One kick a bit under halfway to half-time, and Blessed Spirits but those birds can kick, but that probably would have bounced away safely from the outside of the post even if I hadn't managed to dive out and 'smother' it before it got quite that far.

Date = two days before MatchDay TwoEights-and-four.
Getting ready for ourr trip to play away in Turori; Players who were rrested last week are mostly back, but I'm ourr back-up goalie instead of Serranna [Orchards] and there are still two or three positions for hwhich the manager and coaches apparently haven't yet decided hwhich players to use.
This is likely to be the verry toughest challenge we face during all of these qualifiers, against the worlds' top-rrankd team on its home grround. Even though we managed to get a draw -- and, so , a point -- hwhen they came to urrs last year, the same hrresult again would be a better hrresult than some people might expect... We're a better team now than we were back then, for true, but are we enough better? Well, we'll just have to find out...

Eels Swimming with the Vegetables after Swans Sinking

Eels Park, Eelandii, Turori :: After having gone unbeaten through their first 12 games of the World Cup 92 Qualifying campaign, The Turori National Team suffered its first defeat of the cycle in an upset result against Aleirave. The Eels would respond quickly, however, heading on the road to pick up a 1-0 victory against Harmonia then returning to Turori to face Natanians and Nosts at Eels Park in Eelandii.

With Derizi Amatopa in goal, the Turori National Team would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Kiidallen Aeroluzzi and Naraiza Ruaplal. For Aeroluzzi it was their first goal of the qualification campaign thus far despite the number of matches they had participated in while for Ruaplal the goal was their first since they scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Valentine Z at the end of the first half of qualifying.

Things would heat up greatly in the second half of the game with Natanians and Nosts checking into the action thanks to the goal scoring performance of one of the teams youngest players, Márcus Mihai Torjenescu. Coming early in the second half, the goal setup a tense finish over the final half an hour of action until the Turori National Team finally closed out the game with a goal from Lutara Makakio.

The 3-1 victory was the Turori National Teams second consecutive victory in World Cup 92 Qualifying, the first time the team had recorded back to back victories since nearly Day 10 of competition.

Unfortunately for the Eels, their Winning streak would be halted at 2 games as next up they would face their biggest challenger in Group 1, the Savigliane Swans, and the Eels would fail that challenge miserably.

It would be a rare 5 goals conceded for Eura based goalkeeper Derizi Amatopa, and Turori's worst result since Matchday 10 of World Cup 91 Qualifying. Things had gotten off to a decent enough start for Tarek Edgeli's Eels with Naraiza Ruaplal and Lutara Makakio each getting on the scoreboard for the second consecutive game to help the Turori National Team keep pace with the hosts in a match that was level heading into the half time break at two goals a piece. The second half would be a much different story, however, as for some reason the Turori National Team lost their structure in the defensive midfield and stood by as the Swans took over possession and began to pepper Amatopa's goal with medium percentage chances.

Eventually, the goals started to come in and much to the delight of their home fans, Savigliane would score three second half goals to more than cancel out Loala Inkabu's late consolation tally and completely upend the Automatic Qualification race for the World Cup 92 Finals. With the result, although the Turori National Team technically remained atop the Group 1 table, the Eels lost control of their own destiny as Ichi Tuzzio's swans pulled level on points with the Eels while having a game at hand. With Turori having just 3 games to play and Savigliane having 4, even a perfect record from there on out would not be enough on its own to guarantee the Eels a slot in the World Cup 92 Finals.

Still, while the Eels had lost the opportunity to fully control their own destiny, Tarek Edgeli knew the importance of ensuring that the team put themselves into a position to take advantage of others misfortune, and the Eels would set their sights on victory in their remaining matches in order to be ready to take advantage should the Itchy Freak show slip up and open the door.

Mliona, Turori

Fixture :: World Cup 92 Qualifying Matchday 19 v. Valentine Z

Capacity :: 90,500

Location :: The Island Emirate of Turori has four main zones as part of is primary inhabited areas. The majority of Turori's Population resides on the south eastern portion of Turori's main Island. This includes the Capital City of Almintora, the surrounding capital region including Cednia and the purpose built sportropolis of Eelandii as well as on the Northern shore the city of Kionao. While Almintora is still the largest city in the Island Emirate, Cednia and its associate Beach life at the southern tip of Turori's main Island have become one of its most popular for entertainment as well as holiday style tourism. Outside of this, the large portion of Turori's remaining population are in the Mliona region of Turori's smaller Island, where folks who want to be detached from the hustle bustle of the Capital City life tend to reside.

Mliona is a growing technology hub within the Island Emirate - including the headquarters of two of the most well known Turorian corporations: The Cocoa-bo Eatery Group and the Turorian Weather & Information Interchange (twii.tur)
Image

Stadium & Tenant History :: The rising success of Mliona-Lpaka in the modern era of the Vilitan League necessitated the renovation of the old Mliona Park stadium to improve not only capacity but quality of experience as it was no longer just locals but foreign visitors and clubs travelling to Turori to visit the stadium. While some funding came from the clubs success, others came from Turorian Tourism funding to ensure visiting fans wanted to come back to Turori after their first impressions. After the renovations were complete, the stadium was renamed after former Mliona-Lpaka and Turori National Team star Kaboafo Iobabao who also holds the record for most goals in a single season for Mliona-Lpaka AFC.

Mliona-Lpaka are heavily funded by the Cocoa-bo Eatery who serve as the teams primary kit sponsor as well as a major presence inside the arena with over 60% of the food services in the venue provided by Cocoa-bo. Cocoa-bo, an establishment taking its name directly from the beloved national animal of Turori, started as a small dessert shop in Kionao. However, it was only after they added chocolate topped drinks to their menu that their popularity started to soar. As more and more patrons scooped up their chocolate flavored pick-me-ups, demand for the Cocoa-bo product skyrocketed and soon new franchised locations were popping up all throughout Turori. Shifting to more of a social 'hang-out' then just a casual place to drop in, get a dessert, and leave, the new locations started adding small foods such as Bagels for the morning, Soups and Sandwiches for Lunch or Dinner and Salads for the entire day. The Cocoa-bo stadium experience includes many of the most popular Cocoa-bo offerings as well as some more traditional stadium foods. Because of the close association with Cocoa-bo, the Iobabao Legendary Park was one of the central investigative focuses during the infamous Cocoabo Inquisition led by Sir Barnaselphus of the dreamed realm. It is possible that the recent downturn in performance of Mliona-Lpaka AFC, who had previously been the first Turorian team to win the Vilitan Cup but more recently saw relegation to the Vilitan Declasse, as one of the contributing factors to the case against Cocoa-bo being largely dropped.

Previous Fixture :: World Cup 91 Qualifying Matchday 22 v. Juvencus :: While this will be the Eels first game at Iobabao Legendary Park during World Cup 92 Qualifying, the Turori National Team had good success at the venue picking during the previous cycle picking up a pair of victories. In the first it was a victory over The 14 Stars powered by late goals from Cuoabaza Orani'aoao and Lutara Makakio. From there the Eels would wait until their final home match to return to the field, in a very similar spot in the schedule as their upcoming matchup against Valentine Z. While the Eels would get a 1-0 victory over Juvencus to close out World Cup 91 Qualifying, it was not enough to see them through to the finals and the Eels instead had to work their way through the World Cup 91 Qualification Playoffs. Tarek Edgeli and the Eels would like to duplicate their success at the venue during World Cup 91 Qualifying with a victory over Valentine Z, but hope the matches position as the penultimate instead of the final home game of the season will provide a better final outcome then achieved one cycle prior.

Sporting Daily

WCQ92: 4 matchdays to go, and there is everything to play for? (Part 2)
Report by Sporting Daily Football Team

Disclaimer: This is an article written in collaboration with OptaPoaf, our official sponsor for this edition of the "World Cup Qualifiers Statistics Website".

This is the time of the qualifiers, where every team will be taking out their calculators, and deciding what are the chances of each team being able to book tickets bound for Electrum and Vilita. Of course, there is no easy group, and the results this year have been much closer as compared to the qualifiers 2 years ago. Together with our sponsor OptaPoaf, we have been working on trying to figure out the permutations for the World Cup Qualifiers, and today, we are proud to be able to present to you an anlysis of the current situations as at Matchday 18, and how teams might be able to book their tickets over the course of the next 2 weeks of matches. For this series, we take an emphasis on the second half of the groups, who completed their World Cup Qualifiers matches earlier, as the first half has some remaining matches that were yet to begin as of press time.

For the tables below, the letters will be represented as follows:
Q - Qualified for the World Cup proper
P - Advanced to the playoffs
X - Assured of a spot in the playoffs, but may also qualify for the World Cup proper
Z - Cannot qualify for World Cup directly, but may still advance to playoffs
E - Eliminated

# Group 1 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Turori 17 10 5 2 39 23 +16 35
2 Savigliane 16 11 2 3 39 28 +11 35
3 Ceni 16 10 1 5 33 27 +6 31
4 Valentine Z 16 8 4 4 30 21 +9 28
5 Zeta Reka and Hugeltaldom 16 8 1 7 26 24 +2 25
6 Gyatso-Kai 16 7 2 7 28 29 −1 23
7 Aleirave (E) 17 5 5 7 33 34 −1 20
8 Natanians and Nosts (Z) 16 6 2 8 10 12 −2 20
9 Bears Armed (E) 16 4 5 7 23 23 0 17

Turori and Savigliane continue their race at the top of the table following Savigliane's 5-3 victory against Turori in Matchday 18, with a variety of other teams chasing down the third spot. The final race is still not as clear. Turori has played a game more, and has a tricky trip to Valentine Z on Matchday 20. Meanwhile, Savigliane has a trip against dark horses Ceni, as well as one against third seeds Zeta Reka and Hugeltaldom who needs to stop their rot with a 4 consecutive losses. The important matches will probably be Ceni vs Savigliane in Matchday 19, Valentine Z vs Turori in Matchday 20, as well as both Ceni vs Valentine Z and Zeta Reka and Hugeltaldom vs Savigliane in Matchday 21, which will probably be essential to resolve the order at the top. Should these matches not resolve it, Turori will be nervously hoping for already-eliminated Aleirave, StrayaRoos Barrier Islands and Gyatso-Kai to cause an upset against the current 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams on Matchday 22.

# Group 2 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Kandorith (X) 16 13 2 1 48 22 +26 41
2 Ranoria 16 10 4 2 24 5 +19 34
3 Squornshelan Remnant States 17 8 8 1 41 28 +13 32
4 Yuezhou (Z) 17 9 4 4 34 21 +13 31
5 Sargossa (Z) 16 7 3 6 31 25 +6 24
6 The Licentian Isles (Z) 16 7 3 6 27 27 0 24

7 Pyazhnaya (E) 17 5 3 9 19 39 −20 18

It is top seeds Kandorith who, unsurprisingly, have gotten their spot in at least the playoffs, with a 7 and 9 point lead over 2nd and 3rd placed teams. Kandorith, who would be trying to keep up with a 10-game unbeaten streak, has a run of relatively easy fixtures, and they just need wins against Bongo Johnson and at North and South Vietnam to secure their direct ticket. Ranoria has a 2 point advantage, but a trip to The Licentian Isles in Matchday 21, and a home game against Kandorith on the final day isn't going to do them any favours. Squornsheland Remnant States has relatively easy fixtures left, but they have played one game more and may be easily caught by Yuezhou, with the Yue aiming to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat in Ranoria. The good thing for the Black-and-Reds is that Yuezhou also played 17 games, and has a challenging trip to Pyazhnaya, against a team that has, on their best days, forced Ranoria and Squornshelan Remnant States to a draw.

# Group 3 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Cassadaigua 17 11 5 1 45 19 +26 38
2 Kelssek 16 11 4 1 35 13 +22 37
3 Nephara 16 10 4 2 34 10 +24 34
4 Mertagne 16 9 4 3 35 29 +6 31
5 Pluvia and the Saxean Isles (Z) 17 7 4 6 31 27 +4 25
6 Tjorl (Z) 16 6 6 4 23 18 +5 24

7 Koronavia (E) 16 5 4 7 31 31 0 19
8 Reçueçn (E) 17 4 3 10 12 29 −17 15

We are convinced that this is a 4-horse reace, with 4 really strong teams fighting for a direct spot and 2 playoff spots. As such, we only looked at the top 4 teams and their remaining fixtures, and oh boy, what a finish! Second seeds Cassadaigua narrowly held on to top spot with draws against Kelssek and Meragne in the last 2 fixtures, but they played one game more as compared to the other 3 teams. Third seeds Kelssek defeated Nephara in Matchday 18 to put themselves in a nice position, requiring to only navigate 3 already-eliminated teams and one Tjorl, which would be eliminated should Nephara also win their Matchday 19 game. But can Nephara win their Matchday 19 game? Well, its a trip to Mertagne, and in Matchday 8, Nephara lost at home. But apart from that 6-pointer, neither Mertagne and Nephara have difficult games left ahead of them, and this should be a close on to the finish, dpeending on which team messes up and which team fail to grab maximum points.

# Group 4 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Banija (X) 17 15 2 0 54 28 +26 47
2 Eura 16 12 2 2 50 24 +26 38
3 Geektopia (Z) 17 12 0 5 55 30 +25 36
4 Krytenia (Z) 17 10 4 3 40 26 +14 34
5 Estorvipa and Estorpiva (Z) 16 9 1 6 23 23 0 28
6 Indusse (Z) 16 7 3 6 31 22 +9 24

7 Gortolekua (E) 17 5 1 11 25 46 −21 16

Banija can secure top spot with 4 points, unless Eura fails to grab maximum points over the next 2 matches. THhe playoff race is likely to be a 3-way fight. Eura has 3 easy games against Equestria, Olastor and Sudilia, and while the final fixture against Banija would be a tough one, it isn't unwinnable, and if they take all 9 points from the prior 3, a draw is enough. Of course, they would be ruing the loss against Estorvipa and Estorpiva in Matchday 18, but who can blame them? They did enough with 6 points against Geektopia and 4 against Krytenia. Now, speaking of Krytenia and Geektopia, they do have a 6-pointer fixture in Geektopia at Matchday 20, which will be spicy for the Expats, since more chaos helps them in the race to secure second spot. With that in mind, it seems that Estorvipa and Estorpiva, as well as Indusse's hopes of getting into the playoff is likely all but over.

# Group 5 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Pemecutan 16 11 2 3 40 24 +16 35
2 Kimi-Suomi 16 9 5 2 27 18 +9 32
3 Poafmersia 16 9 4 3 35 23 +12 31
4 Hapilopper 17 8 5 4 44 29 +15 29
5 Kuraita 16 7 5 4 30 16 +14 26
6 Legalese 16 6 5 5 25 24 +1 23
7 Omerica (Z) 17 6 5 6 22 25 −3 23
8 Tecoia (E) 16 5 3 8 26 30 −4 18

There is no obvious leader at the point, though Pemecutan, who have been dark horses themselves when they made a crazy run to the finals of World Cup 90, look like the favourites purely by looking at the table alone. But it is actually a 4-way fight that will go to the wire, if you look at the matches. Kimi-Suomi needs to travel to Poafmersia. Poafmersia needs to travel to Hapilopper. Happilopper needs to travel to Pemecutan. And Pemecutan needs to travel to Kimi-Suomi. With quite a number of important matches to go, the top 4 definitely have their fate in their own hands. Kuraita and Legalese may have been doing well, but the recent results might just have been the final nail in the coffin for their qualification hopes.

# Group 6 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Zwangzug (X) 17 13 2 2 32 10 +22 41
2 Flavovespia 17 12 2 3 39 15 +24 38
3 Jeruselem (Z) 17 9 3 5 34 22 +12 30
4 Delaclava (Z) 16 8 4 4 30 19 +11 28
5 Ochre Islands (Z) 16 7 5 4 33 25 +8 26
6 República Guanacasteca (Z) 16 6 5 5 20 18 +2 23

7 Hopal (E) 17 6 1 10 32 39 −7 19
8 Togonistan (Z) 16 5 3 8 15 23 −8 18

Zwangzug and Flavovespia likely has the top 2 spots locked in, with Zwangzug having 3 easy matches against Togonistan, Hopal and Ochre Islands to round up. Securing the top spot would likely require all 3 wins, though Flavovespia has a much harder run-in with a trip to Delaclava and a home game against Jeruselem to go. Matchday 19's Jeruselem vs Delaclava will likely be key in deciding the taker of the 2nd playoff spot. Delaclava played one less game as compared to Jeruselem, and after navigating through Matchday 19 and 20, they will have 2 easy games to round off their campaign. Ochre Islands has an outside chance of making the last playoff spot, but they have to secure maximum points, including at Zwangzug, for that to happen.

# Group 7 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Farfadillis (X) 17 12 4 1 42 20 +22 40
2 Delte 17 10 3 4 45 26 +19 33
3 New Gelderland 16 9 2 5 27 24 +3 29
4 Commonwealth of Baker Park 16 7 5 4 35 31 +4 26
5 StrayaRoos 17 6 6 5 36 34 +2 24
6 Darmen 16 6 6 4 31 31 0 24
7 Sajnur 16 7 2 7 33 33 0 23
8 Sarzonia 16 6 3 7 25 24 +1 21

9 The Jovannic (E) 17 4 2 11 34 42 −8 14

Farfadillis needs a win to secure the group title - that may be the easiest question to solve for the group. Delte has 3 games left to handle - a trip to eliminated The Jovannic, a home game against Sajnur, and a trip to Sarzonia. Unranked side New Gelderland holds a 3 point advantage over second seeds Commonwealth of Baker Park, but has the hardest run of fixtures to go, first playing Sarzonia at home, having a trip to Damukuni (who despite their ranking are nowhere to be found), then a home game against Baker Park, before a trip to StrayaRoos. Baker Park, apart from that 6-pointer against the darkhorses, they also have a trip to StrayaRoos, a home game against probably-already-qualified Farfadillis, as well as a home game against Darmen to round it up. The remaining teams also have games against each other to settle the final playoff spots, and this is a group that would likely go down to the wire.

In another time, Azad Günaydin might have been able to cultivate an image of reliability in Bastion. Someone that Eura could do business with. A reformer set to take Pasarga on the next stage of its political evolution away from medievalism.
Now a black and white photograph of him was stamped to a playing card, the Jack of Clubs, and being handed out to the scariest looking Eurans you’ll ever meet.
Marshall was one of them. He rolled the little rectangle over in his hand, checking both sides, and taking note of the glaring headline in red text: “AZAD GUNAYDIN. WANTED – DEAD OR ALIVE.”
Officially, the Euran government did not hand out such mementos to its special force’s operators. Or put its service people at risk when not completely necessary. Or use Marine Commandos as high stakes death squads carrying out extrajudicial arrests and killings. And yet…
‘Williams. Are you good?’

Marshall was shaken out of his thoughts. ‘Uh, yeah. Just checking out our guy.’
‘I think he’s going to be boring. He looks dull.’
‘Don’t jinx it. Now you’ve said that he’ll have an explosive vest or something.’
‘No chance. We’ll bop him on the head and put an end to that. Anyway, come on, time to go. If you’re going to do a call, do it now.’
Marshall did indeed want to make a call. He tried to ignore the naval intelligence officer listening to his call in the booth opposite the call station, as he dialled a Farrenton number. ’Hello?’
‘Nick? Hey, its me. How are you doing? I haven’t heard from you!’
’Oh. What do you want Marsh?’
‘Well,’ Marshall stuttered, taken aback by the hostile tone, ‘I just…I don’t know, I guess I was missing you is all. Last time we spoke-‘
’I thought I made myself clear. We’re done. I’m not waiting on you, not again.’
‘Hey-‘
’Goodbye.’

All of half an hour later, Marshall was still replaying that very short phone call in his head from the deck of ENS General Palin. He was tense all over.
‘Hey, last gear check! We’ve got the green light.’
”We’re done.” Who the fuck does he think he is? Arsehole.
Marshall checked his gear. Helmet. Kevlar plate. Ammo – riskily light, as if this whole thing wasn’t a gamble.
I don’t have to take that from anybody. No fucking chance.
Zip ties and tape for prisoners. Radio. Sidearm, a compact automatic pistol. And, of course, his rifle, with its various attachments, including a thermal sight that he’d been trying to get held of for months.
I’ll show him. I’ll show them all.
Had an accredited therapist been on hand, Marshall Williams would not have been on this mission. But the Euran Navy did not always check too carefully for underlying red flags. They just wanted one thing from their Marine Commandos: to find, to identify, and to kill.

-----------

This was quite possibly the most utterly daft operation pulled off by Euran special forces since the capture of Natella Kalinina – and that had only turned out ok with a lot of luck. Few of the commanders directly responsible thought well of the Foreign Secretary for even suggesting this foolishness.
But orders were orders.
Five different detachments of helicopters were skimming across the Alban Strait – UH-35 ‘Sparrow’ helicopters, specifically, a utility design with a pimped out weapons loadout designed for special forces and Marine use.
This was utterly crazy, seasoned officers were thinking back from the safety of the carrier. These guys were going in with only the minimum of preparatory air strikes, executed with just minutes notice and no time to assess if targets had been hit. They had minimal intel on what resistance they might face. An active air defence network could be waiting for them. No armour or transport.

All to possibly avert the need for a lengthy bombing campaign of rebel targets on Pargis, and the collateral damage that would bring, something that might happen anyway.
Marshall had no such compunctions. He was still fuming and really just wanted to put a bullet in someone. You’ve got to get the anger out somehow, right?
There was a flash on the horizon towards the mainland, then several more. A message came through on the radio: ‘Strike teams, enemy positions have been softened up. You’re on your own. Good luck.’
Another flash – unexpected this time. Over the sea to their west. The team leader knew what was up.
‘Gold Three, sitrep.’
‘…’
‘Gold Three?’
‘Fuck. Our esteemed Fleet Air Arm couldn’t be bothered to take out all of the SAMs then. Hold on lads, its going to get bumpy.’

By the time they were on the ground, this should have been a disaster already. Three helicopters were down and dozens of operators killed. The nearby city of Troubalose and a full moon had unhelpfully painted the attacking helicopters for visual identification let alone targeting by more sophisticated means. Whether or not they completed their objective, this would not go down well with public opinion back home.
Marshall’s team were more fortunate. They had landed less than a kilometre from their target and disembarked from practically a whole meter off the ground. Two other teams had landed to the west and east of the target and started diversionary attacks on checkpoints to draw away any reinforcements. Another team to the south hadn’t been heard from, but they had reported enemy armour on landing, which did not bode well.
That left these guys to go for the prize. Their target was a mansion, with large glass panel windows on a refurbished lower flower, designed to face south towards Torgos. It was a beautiful view – and a terrible defensive position.

The chatter of gunfire filled the night as the rebel-hired mercenaries out front were cut to ribbons. The rest of the alleged thirty defenders outside looked confused; they knew an attack of some kind was underway from the distant gunfire and radio reports, but they assumed that the perimeter checkpoints on the grounds had interceded.
Now their comrades were being shot to hell by suppressed weapons from out in the fields, from no obvious position. On the bottom floor of the mansion the civilian staff did the sensible thing, making for the basement as quickly as they could, though only after they saw one henchman have his brain splattered all over the good cutlery.
Azad Günaydin was scared. His protection detail was clearly not good enough because most of them had just died like idiots. He armed himself with a sub-machine gun, ordered the rest of his guards to defend the interior corridors, and began to size up whether the drainpipe outside was stable enough to climb down.
The lights went out. Someone had cut the power. Destiny was coming for the rebel in chief.

‘Williams, go!’
Marshall took point without hesitation. He was high on adrenaline and emotional instability, and the opportunity to do something to be remembered by.
First room – kitchens. Some bell boy was cowering on the floor, terrified. ‘Fuck off! Go!’ He did.
Second room – well, a hallway, not a room. Didn’t matter. There was movement on the stairwell – Marshall raised his rifle and fired three shots without hesitation. A man wearing – we’re those pyjamas? – nightwear and a baseball cap and little else collapsed down the stairs without uttering so much as a cry for help.
No gun.
‘Fuck it, keep moving!’
No time to clear every room, grenades would have to do. This would not be the usual squeaky clean job, if there were such a thing.
Bang, bang.

‘Clear!’
‘CLEAR!’
The first floor was liberated – a graveyard, in other words. There was chatter over the radio, distractingly so. ’Hey, we’ve got civilians down in the shelter. What do we-‘
’Tell them to exit via the rear entrance and to make for the woods. If this place goes up-‘
‘Yes sir!’

Marshall stumbled on a…was that a skateboard? ‘Is that-‘
‘KEEP MOVING! Clear right!’
Marshall swept left, kicking open a door. A child’s room, but one that had been tarnished by serving as sleeping quarters for some of the mercenaries. Marshall felt less bad now. No-one innocent had lived here for weeks.
He exited the room and a man with a rifle, no doubt about it, emerged from around a corner. Two more shots. ‘One more down. Pushing up.’

They kept going like this for two more floors, until they reached a modern extension that formed an impromptu fifth. One member of the squad tumbled after being hit in the side.
‘James! Fuck, take him back down, keep the pressure up, go go go!’
At this point Marshall had almost started to disassociate. Everything was flowing perfectly. He had not the foggiest idea if his team were keeping up with him, but he didn’t care, because he knew what he was here for and these gun-for-hire dickweeds were here for the taking.
A spray of gunfire from the extension entrance almost ended the adventure. Marshall pulled a grenade, and his team leader – he’d caught up – a stun grenade.
‘Not today, dickheads!’
One went through the doorway, then another, both held for a couple of seconds to minimise reaction time.
Bang. Thump.

One man staggered through the doorway covered in seeping wounds from the shrapnel, and Marshall didn’t even bother to shoot him, letting his team leader barge the poor bastard over the railing and off the roof. The other was lying on the floor with a pistol by his hands – was he raising them?
No time to find out. One in the head.
This had to be it. They had reached the end of the road. A hail of gunfire sprayed the wall behind them, and the team leader sank to his knees, a bullet having passed through one side of his neck to the other. Marshall threw himself to the floor and instinctively emptied half a clip on automatic, right under the bed that separated him from the direction of the gunfire.
Someone hit the deck. Under the bed, Marshall could see who. It was Azad – he was looking him right in the eye. ‘You…fuck…argh…’ the Pasargan was mumbling.

‘Crease, Gold 1 here - squad lead is down. But we have the target. Apprehending him now.’
’Copy Gold 1. Uhh, hold out.’
Azad rolled over onto his front, looking down at his wounded ankles. Marshall stood over him with a blank stare.
’Uhh, Gold 1, new lead. New instructions. Eliminate target.’
Normally, Marshall might have questioned that order. Pushed back. Wasn’t that illegal or something?
Not today.
Definitely not today. He raised his rifle.
Azad could sense what was happening, saw the flag patch on Marshall’s arm, and started babbling in Terranean English. ‘Hold on, wait, I know people in your government. Don’t do it. Something must be wrong!’
Marshall furrowed his eyebrows. Then shook his head. ‘Nah.’
‘Listen, just listen to me. I can make you very rich-‘
Bang.
‘Crease. Gold 1. Target eliminated. Exfil on the double…please.’

Port Willoughby
The Tumbran Northlands

It was a frigid afternoon in March, and the clocks had just struck two. It was deathly quiet on the streets, despite a long queue that snaked around the block along the designated the "high street" of Port Willoughby. Despite it looking much like any other small Tumbran town, none of this had existed ten years earlier. That it felt this lived in after just six years was perhaps a miracle of the civil planners; but six years was enough for a small spark of culture to form. What betrayed its relatively new origins were the fresher coats of paint on the facades of buildings, and the smoother roads that drivers could glide on. Potholes were infamously common in the smallest of towns in Tumbra, neglected by almost every all levels of government in a seemingly endless game of buck-passing.

The settlement, which was located on the south bank of what had been christened the Willoughby River, was one of the Northlands' gateways to the world. Here, catches of fish and whatever other light manufacturing products left on small ships; there, they would be shipped to the port of Ridgewell, or Nantwich, and then on to the greater world. It was, however, mainly fish; cod and haddock were the main products that were shipped out early in the morning. There were no railways to the south — the government had deemed its construction a security risk, for there was still a war going on — which meant that outside of roads to the south and west, which led to smaller settlements for those brave enough to settle on land that wasn't fully under Tumbran control, the seas would remain Port Willoughby's main road to the world.

Accordingly, the port was probably the most well-built part of the town; there was not only a dry-dock for military ships, but lots of the people in the queue right then, on that frigid March afternoon, were also port workers. The announcement that natural gas had finally been located, following seismic surveys conducted over the past three years, brought a slight inkling of hope. Finally, they'd be able to become a fully-fledged part of the nation they'd left to become frontiersmen and frontierswomen. Many had thought that in the age of the nation-state, the age of packing everything one owned into a tucker bag had ended. Most of those who had moved to the Northlands, and taken the generous stipend offered by the government, were those that were dissatisfied with their life back down south.

Out of business.
On hard times.
Couldn't find a house.
Looking for stable, secure work.
Looking for a fresh start.

The Great Exodus of what had now become Mertagne had become a historical event that had been heavily scrutinised in recent years; because it was possibly the only modern example of something like this happening. Nephara and Brenecia? Quebec and Banija? Positively ancient when compared to the Exodus. There did exist a dark suspicion the ends of those colonial empires would also become a topic of study in the not-so-distant future. Hushed whispers only, though. Tumbra had learned from their mistakes. And wouldn't repeat them.

So it was that the settlements of Port Willoughby and Blackthorn were hurriedly constructed and expanded; and had soon become medium-sized towns, or even small cities, that had become the central part of life in the Northlands. And things were happy.

Then a group of six terrorists — five Northlanders, one Tumbran — had blown up the town hall in Blackthorn down south. Nobody was hurt, four were injured; but it had shaken the faith of almost everyone that lived in the two settlements that Tumbra would keep them safe. The intelligence agencies hunted them down almost immediately — a ten-minute raid conducted by the Ninety-Third Airbourne Division on a seemingly innocuous residential settlement resulted in the death of all six, though there had been controversy over the fact that the Tumbran had been shot while he'd been bound to a chair — but there was soon a different feeling that enveloped the two towns.

Fear.

Fear enveloped almost everyone now; they looked at each other suspiciously, they checked buildings for suspicious packages or things that could possibly be a life-ender; they looked at the Northlanders who'd decided to jump ship and join modern society suspiciously. No amount of protesting by those who'd become outcasts in two worlds would change Tumbran minds; almost all Northlanders had been painted with that brush of "potential terrorist."

Then democracy had been introduced to the Northlands, even if it was a distinctly ersatz form of it; the Northlands would get three Members of Parliament, elected through single transferable vote, but they wouldn't be able to vote on laws. It was, as the then-Prime Minister called it, "a way to ensure smoothen the eventual transition of the Northlands into becoming the twenty-sixth state of the Federal Republic," but the fact that the non-voting delegates couldn't vote rang hollow. Still, though, people turned out to vote; and they'd elected three delegates. Perhaps surprisingly, none of them professed an affiliation to any political party; but then again, none of the parties had decided to set up shop in the Northlands. It was still a distinct legal entity in international law, and was legally in a "compact of free association" with Tumbra. Still, though, in almost every facet of the state-to-be, Tumbra's claws were all over it. The Chief Executive was 'recommended' by Straton. The civil servants were all from Straton. Almost everyone that was involved in the administration of the Northlands was either from Straton or in Straton.

The three delegates the Northlands had elected couldn't have been more different.

The first, elected on the fourth count of the election, was Dana Robinson. She was a mild-mannered community leader, who'd originally moved to the Northlands to start a new business. She'd successfully lobbied the federal government to make the social security net in the Northlands stronger than it was in Tumbra, both because there was just so little help available in the Northlands and because it would entice more people to move north; and was an easy choice to be a delegate to Parliament.

The second, who was elected on the seventh count, was Stephen Paddick. His candidacy was controversial; not least because he'd called for a cessation of hostilities in the Northlands and the incorporation of the United Clans into Tumbra as a 'semi-sovereign state', which allowed internal self-government but allowed Tumbra to conduct defence and foreign affairs on it behalf, a step down from federalism. Rumours flew around that he was a sleeper candidate put in by the United Clans; critics pointed out that the United Clans' only desire was complete independence. Nevertheless, Paddick had an easygoing personality; and was sent to Tumbra.

The third, which took eleven counts to elect, was Raymond Walters. Walters had a cavalier attitude to the war, and was the only one of the twelve candidates to announce that his strategy to solve the conflict was "Bomb 'em all!" He didn't care; and that was his charm. To him, the only acceptable course of action was to fully join Tumbra as soon as possible; he'd even refused to shake hands with Paddick at the post-election event because to Walters, Paddick was "soft." From Day One, Walters had been belligerent; up until a knife had been stuck inside him fourteen times by someone who'd supposedly been acting of the orders of the United Clans, he'd been belligerent and unapologetic.

That was why the queue was snaking along the high street of Port Willoughby. An MP — non-voting delegate — had died, and someone needed to replace him.

Heavy preparations had been put in place to ensure that the election would be safe; an awfully militarised police patrolled the streets, and it seemed that almost every polling station had a heavily-armoured trooper with a combat rifle on them.

They were meant to make the Northlanders feel safe. But nobody did.

There was a distinct silence as people queued — no hustings, no last-minute canvassing of votes, no talking to each other in the queue. Perhaps that last one was just a Tumbran thing — strangers rarely talked to each other in public, and anyone who did often had their mental faculties called into question — but the air of silence was extremely eerie. It didn't feel natural. It didn't feel Tumbran.

But they were safe. After all, the guns and the armoured troops and the armoured personnel carriers had to make people feel safe.

And they were safe, until an innocuous dark blue car that was parked immediately outside the polling station on Port Willoughby's high street decided to erupt in a column of flames, shrapnel, and smoke.

Panic.

Death.

Fear.

The election was suspended. But the United Clans had won.

THE BILLBOARD GAZETTE

RUNNING RUNNING AND RUNNING RUNNING

Oberour Ar Moro and Valanora are the only ones left between Chartistan and playoff spot

A crippling loss against Elmyia on Matchday 19 got rid of any hope of Chartistan winning all 4 of their final 4 games of the World Cup 92 qualification campaign, the 3-0 beatdown in Mosfleet temporarily slipping them down to 4th in the table, with IA Quebec having their bye matchday after a 3-1 victory against Al Qurija at the Rammstein Ranch. Out of the 5 teams still alive for the playoff spots after Matchday 20, which saw Doctor Lucas's side recover from the away shellacking to give Old Town Park to overtake the resting Quebecois for the second playoff spot in the group, it's down to 3 contenders who are most likely going to make the final 2 games of the campaign and 2 pretenders who, while still having a shot at 3rd place, need every single result to go their way in order to have one last shot at making it to Vilita and Electrum. We here at the Billboard Gazette will look at all the storylines heading into Matchdays 21 and 22, where each team stands, and what sort of crazy result we may see after the final whistle.

1st Place - Valanora
Already qualified
13 wins, 4 draws, 1 loss, 43 points, +25 GD
Remaining fixtures: Vs Mercedini, @ Chartistan

The Elves Security Forces may rest once more. Even though their final 2 games come against the teams ranked 2nd and 3rd in the group heading into Matchday 21, their superior points differential over 2nd place Mercedini has seen them comfortably clinch top spot in Group 13, being joined by Kandorith, Zwangzug and Farfadillis as the first four non-hosts to punch their ticket to the World Cup Proper. As we will see later, both Mercedini and Chartistan can make statements of intent if they beat the Eternal Empire, but all focus for Valanora will shift to the main tournament, as the Eternal Empire hopes to win a record 6th World Cup title.
Objective: Take the foot off the gas

2nd Place - Mercedini
Almost assured of Playoffs
10 wins, 6 draws, 2 losses, 36 points, +20 GD
Remaining fixtures: @ Valanora, Vs Darkmania

Heading into the qualification draw the Mercedini national team saw Valanora and IA Quebec as the gatekeepers of qualification. It's safe to say that, thus far, they are most likely assured of beating one of those gatekeepers. While not 100% confirmed of making the final trips needed to possibly nab a ticket, all Mercedini need to do is either win at Valanora or run through Darkmania (Who barely lost to the aforementioned Elves in the game that clinched their berth) at home to be assured of a playoff spot no matter what happens. If they only get 1 or 2 points, they will have to hope IA Quebec doesn't win both of their remaining games to surpass them and throw Mercedini down to the Cup of Harmony.
Objective: Don't let the dark elves get you

3rd Place - Chartistan
On the edge of glory
10 wins, 5 draws, 3 losses, 35 points, +11 GD
Remaining Fixtures: @ Oberour Ar Moro, Vs Valanora

While an automatic spot is out of reach for the Chartistan national team, spirits remain high in the Billboard camp heading into their final 2 games. Like Mercedini, a win would all but guarantee a playoff berth and almost close the path for all others wanting to cross over the threshold, but anything less than 3 points could mean any one of the 3 teams below them can jump them should they string favorable results in their final 2 fixtures. The one thing lacking from this Chartistan team is goal difference - A disadvantage that one certain team can gain advantage from - and if Doctor Lucas wants this team to keep going, he has to make sure Oberour Ar Moro and Valanora are well taken care of and hope the next team on the list doesn't respond back.
Objective: Be a good sport and hope for the best

4th Place - IA Quebec
First ones out but not done yet
9 wins, 5 draws, 4 losses, 33 points, +17 GD
Remaining Fixtures: @ Arjunnagar, Vs Elmyia

A break is a break, but for Quebec they have the best shot out of anybody below Chartistan to sneak into the playoffs and have one last shot at the World Cup proper. They have 2 teams already eliminated from contention to face in the last window - A 10th place Arjunnagar side away from home and then Elmyia at the Rammstein Ranch. Anything but 6 points for the Grim Reapers would be enough for a Mjolnir in some eyes. They have every advantage possible to launch themselves to 3rd place or even 2nd if Mercedini and Chartistan both collapse, and to think Ruben Condori wouldn't go all out would be a mistake. All it takes is for Chartistan to faulter once and for IA Quebec to latch onto all 6 points for their superior goal difference to do the trick.
Objective: Fear nobody, give it everything possible

5th Place - Baggieland
The fortress is all they got
9 wins, 3 draws, 6 losses, 30 points, +4 GD
Remaining Fixtures: Vs Great Korvax Empire, @ Al Qurija

At this point, Dartmouth Hill is the only thing Baggieland can use to their advantage. Apart from Chartistan, nobody has ventured into Hawthorn and escaped with all 3 points. Their gap to the third place side, however, means they have to get all 6 points and hope both Chartistan and IA Quebec faulter, which is unlikely to begin with. A very successful campaign is likely to end in moments of what could've been, but a 5th, even possibly a 4th place finish in the group is nothing to scoff at for the Throstles. Taking it much farther might come down to bizzare twists of fate.
Objective: Hope for the best?

6th place - Oberour Ar Moro
The longest of longshots
8 wins, 5 draws, 5 losses, 29 points, +4 GD
Remaining Fixtures: Vs Chartistan, @ Great Korvax Empire

Just how in the world could Oberour Ar Moro defy all odds and go from 6th to 2nd and qualify for the World Cup playoffs? They need everything possible to go into their favor. The first thing they have to do is to beat Chartistan, a team that desperately need to win in order to qualify, and a draw won't do any favors for the Dragoons at the Parade Grounds - Anything but a win would have them out. They then have to travel to bottom of the pile Great Korvax Empire, who need to beat Baggieland at the fortress of Dartmouth Hill to keep Oberour Ar Moro alive, and beat them to secure all 6 points. But it isn't the Korvaxians who they need to see beat their opposition: All 3 of Chartistan, IA Quebec and Baggieland have to score 0 points in order for them to have a CHANCE at making the playoffs. Not only that, they have to clear a 7 goal gap between them and Chartistan and let the superior head to head record do its magic to officially surpass them. Have we seen stuff more absurd than this? Yes. Is this likely to happen? No.
Objective: Pray for divine intervention

OOC - apologies to Abraham Lincoln

"Brothers! As we approach the final two matches of this qualifying campaign, let us not despair! Though the path has been long and hard, qualification is still within our grasp if we can but pilot our hamstermechs to victory!"

<hamster cheers!>

"I confess that when I, Gerald, your captain, agreed to take on the task of World Cup qualification, I knew not what lay before us. I failed to anticipate that we would lose five matches due to being distracted by the perfidious actions of hee-yoo-man beans and - again, I confess - some poor engineering on our hamstermechs. For this, I apologise."

<hamster cries of 'no need!' and 'Gerald is ace!'>

"Yet also think of the opportunities that have been presented to us! Without the challenges of the World Cup, we never would have liberated the hamsters of Nyowani Kitara! Without the challenges of the World Cup, we never would have unleashed the wind of hamster and guinea big freedom in Huayramarca! Without the challenges of the World Cup, the All-Hamster Revolutionary Liberation Front would never have risen up against the oppressive chains of the hee-yoo-man beans! Without the challenges of the World Cup, our brave freedom fighters such as Chairman Mouse, the Mighty Thor, Nibbles, Squeek, and our other revolutionaries might never have arisen to become heroes to hamsterkind!"

<more hamster cheers!>

"And yet despite our revolutionary actions, there remains much work to be done! Why, even yesterday, the monster Olaf Svante was shamelessly flaunting his counter-revolutionary activity in the match against the Cordian Isles; and though we applaud the fair-minded referee who showed the Svante monster a yellow card for his appalling speciesist 'LOVE ALL PET HAMSTERS' slogans - let it be recorded, for we are fair-minded hamsters in the AHRLF that at least some hee-yoo-man beans have proven themselves to be our revolutionary allies - we must still be ready to rise up against anti-hamster activity across the multiverse!"

<hamster cheers become ever-louder>

"So let us go forth in the coming days knowing that continuing our World Cup journey gives us ever-more opportunities to advance the revolutionary cause of hamster freedom, whether it be the freedom of the Vilitan giant hamster, the freedom of the lesser-spotted turnip-eating hamster of Electrum, or the freedom of any enslaved hamsters that counter-revolutionary hee-yee-man beans might take to the host nations!

If we shall suppose that hamster slavery is one of those offenses which, in the providence of the Hamster God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives us the ability to carry through our revolutionary triumphs as the woe due to those by whom the offense came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a living Hamster God always ascribe to Him? Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that the need for our revolutionary activity may speedily pass away. Yet, if the Hamster God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the enslaved hamster's years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the machine gun, as was said so many thousands of years ago, so still it must be said "the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether!"

<ecstatic hamster cheers; Gerald is carried away on the tiny furry shoulders of the hamster crowd>

The clock face glowed red in the darkened interior of the Command Bunker below the Presidential Palace in Soluca. It was quarter past six in the morning in local Branta Time, 68 hours into the 72 hour window given to the Pasargan rebel faction to lay down their arms and surrender. Despite the unsociable hour Gregorio Emparán was in his high-backed seat, a cadre of senior military officers around him. He read the priority message he’d been handed for a fourth time. It hadn’t changed.

‘The Eurans have a creditable source. They think they’ve found the spider at the centre of this web of intrigue. And here’s the kicker, they have him located in Troubalose. Are our assault forces in position?’

‘Yes sir.’ General Raoul Delgado, the most senior uniformed military figure in the nation replied in the affirmative. The landings in Paulinthal have been uncontested as we expected. Forces loyal to the Pasargan crown still hold the city. I’ve spoken with General Ersin, the Pasargan commander, myself. We also have Prince Iskander and the Queen Mother on a military transport enroute to Cordova. The plane may not be of their usual accustomed opulence but I’m sure the Viceroy’s Palace will be more to their tastes when they arrive. Queen Azra, as we expected, has elected to stay in her homeland. We’ve augmented her security detail with a full battalion of Cazadores. And General Santana reports his forces are at full readiness to strike at Troubalose as soon as we hit the deadline.’

‘Screw the deadline. The Eurans are sending in a team to cut the head off of the snake. But as well trained and equipped as their spec ops guys are, they’re going to be outnumbered and outgunned. That is unless the Red and Golds in Troubalose were distracted by something much louder. Screw the deadline. Give Santana the go order, we’re done waiting.’

Delgado picked up a phone and tapped in a code. ‘This is Control to Hammer Command. You have go order. Commence the assault. Confirm.’

‘Message received Control. Attack is a go.’

* * * * * * * * * *

It had been a strange few weeks for the people of Pasarga. But, for the inhabitants of Troubalose, it was about to get a little stranger. At twenty past seven local time, as the populace of the northern port city roused themselves into action for another day, the world took a turn for the worst. They’d seen the ships arrive off their coast some twenty four hours earlier, the numbers growing as the full force of Sargossa’s First Carrier Group arrived. Behind them came the transports bringing the ground elements of the intervention force. That was the key word, intervention. High Command had been very clear that any use of the term invasion was to be strictly avoided.

On the bridge of the battleship Sargo De Santa, the flagship of the entire Sargossan fleet, General Rafael Santana quietly exhaled. He’d only ever commanded a force of this magnitude in simulations. But, having been handpicked by the High Command to lead the intervention force, suddenly simulations had given way to stark reality. He drank in his surroundings once again. He was no naval man, but the battleship felt like a glorious throwback to a bygone age. Modern naval doctrine may be moving away from the big capital ships, but Sargossa’s proud nautical tradition remained. Not that they were afraid to embrace current trends. The nearby presence of the supercarriers Jucaro Dawn and Cartagena were testimony to that. He was snapped out of his reverie by a call from the comms station.

‘Incoming transmission sir.’

‘This is Control to Hammer Command. You have go order. Commence the assault. Confirm.’

Santana glanced at his watch. ‘They’re keen. Send the acknowledgement.’

‘Message received Control. Attack is a go.’

‘We have our orders. All commanders to their stations.’ He took a breath and paused for just a moment. ‘Open fire.’

As one the big guns of the fleet swivelled to bear, their targets pre-arranged. Smoke and noise erupted as giant shells were sent spinning into the morning Rushmori air. Missile batteries emptied their loads too, adding to the cacophony. In the distance orange flashes showed the impacts in and around the port facility. The standing orders had been very clear, damage to civilian infrastructure was to be kept to an absolute minimum. Which is why the fleet wasn’t firing blindly. Pasargan and Euran intelligence sources had been supplying the Sargossan military with a steady stream of detailed information on the placement of rebel forces in the city.

Those rebel forces were doomed. With the Pasargan army defections estimates put the rebel’s total numbers somewhere in the region of fifty thousand. A not insignificant force. But the bulk of that force was currently pushing south from Torgos in the direction of Sardin. Leaving the defenders of Troubalose far too thinly stretched to repel the Sargossan attack. Fighters and gunships were in the air now too, making attack runs in the wake of the initial bombardment. Behind them the sea was being churned up by the transport ships making towards the port, ready to disgorge their tanks and other Armoured Fighting Vehicles. The spear tip of the assault was made up be elements of the 1st Armoured Brigade, the feared Scutarii. Euran naval forces were also bearing down on the region at flank speed, their aerial elements were expected to arrive in the combat zone imminently. Against the combined forces of Sargossa and Eura defeat for the Red and Golds in Troubalose was all but assured. They had no naval support. They had no air cover. They were doomed. But they weren’t without teeth.

Through his binoculars Santana eyed a pair of gunships that had drifted away from the main area of operations. From behind a cluster of buildings a smoke trail betrayed an approaching missile. The pilot wasn’t aware of it until far too late, the impact sending the helicopter crashing to the ground in a burning cloud of debris. The second gunship wheeled sharply in the air, tracer rounds ripping through the air as gunners fired wildly in the vague direction of the source of the missile.

‘Idiot.’ Santana hissed. ‘Pull back you fool. They’ve got you.’

A second smoke trail shot forward, turning the second gunship into a flaming ruin and sending it to join its comrade in a crater on the ground.

‘Fuck!’. Santana bit out the expletive. ‘We have a possible SAM site in that sector. Divert ground forces to eliminate it’

‘It’s in the red zone sir.’ Came the reply from one of the staff officers.

The red zone. The command had come from the highest authority. A section of the city had been designated as this so-called red zone and Sargossan forces had been ordered to avoid it. That was for the Eurans. Apparently, they were planning a special military operation in the area, the details of which even Santana had not been made privy to. Let the Eurans have it, he had more than enough to keep himself occupied. Vanguard units had reported enemy armour on the streets. That hadn’t been in the intelligence briefing. Tanks, SAMs. Who knew what other Euran built weaponry the rebels had purloined from the Pasargan armouries. They may be facing a hopeless cause but it looked very much like the Red and Golds in Troubalose weren’t going down without a fight.

Squid Not The Palace is a talking heads show that airs weekly on Thursdays, around 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Inkopolis Standard Time (IST), on radio station 94.7 "The Inker". The show, hosted by Inklings Frédéric Bernard and Nora Man, often looks at the Squidroidian national football team as their main subject, with focus sometimes going to other sports, especially around the time of the Summer Olympics, in which the show goes daily and becomes "Squid Not The Podium". Their focus now - The Squidroidian Blue Wall and how it may hold up for the final 2 games of the qualification campaign.

FB - I'm sure that even Coltfield notices the concerns generated in that game against Eshialand and is working on fixing them in time for the Milchama game.

NM - No, what I'm trying to say is that the Blue Wall has cracks. Every great defense will have cracks, and Eshialand exploited them to score 3 goals. That's more goals than these Inklings conceded in their first 12 matches of the campaign.

FB - Isn't that what the team is trying to fix?

NM - You're saying it as if they've been fixing this since the Drawkland game. They did not.

FB - Guess how many goals Milchama and Garifunya scored the last time we met them.

NM - ...

FB - Go on, I'll give you 10 seconds.

NM - Do I have to yell you?

FB - Yeah, you do. 5 seconds.

NM - Ugh...

FB - And oop! Times up! They didn't score one goal.

NM - And you want to know why?

FB - Lovely, tell me why!

NM - THEY DIDN'T SCORE ENOUGH.

FB - Absolutely preposterous. They just didn't figure out the cracks yet

NM - Bernard, if you don't shut up about the cracks in the system I'll-

FB - Hold on Nora, we got a caller in from Calamari County. Hello, this is Squid Not The Palace, you're on air.

Caller - Why hello Bernard. Say, weren't those 3 goals caused by Akiyama not thinking straight or whatever? That was the reason why we conceded those 3 goals. If it wasn't for that we'd be winning 2-0 and punching our ticket to the World Cup already.

FB - I... Didn't hear that from the interview he gave to SBN. I'm sure it was because Eshialand found how to exploit their positions

NM - Now I know where those Ko-oren accusations came from! We weren't trying to solve exploits, we just did what wor-

FB - HEY THAT'S MY LINE!

NM - Fine...

Caller - I'll tell you what, my brother has a 3 legged parlay going on from Whailer Casino Sportsbook - Squidroidia to beat Milchama on -75, Squidroidia to qualify for the World Cup on -190, Drawkland to not qualify on +240. Slotted in 5 bucks and I hope all 3 legs go through.

FB - This is not the show for betting advice. "Sportsline Tonight" comes on in 3 and a half hours.

Caller - I'll talk to them about that then. Good luck, bye.

NM - Always people who get those 2 shows confused. I mean they both have female Inklings on the show...

FB - Now's not the time for that. Should we, the Squidroidia Inklings, qualify for the World Cup?

NM - Absolutely. If we don't even get first place it would be bad. Missing out on the tournament would be inexcusable.

FB - I mean Coltfield has that Cup of Harmony clause in her contract, even though it would be bad to have it triggered in her first cycle of 3.

NM - I never liked Ceni anyways. I mean I already booked my hotel room in Vilita so we can record on location.

FB - We don't even know if we're going to be in Electrum though! How could you?

NM - I know from experience, World Cup 90, of course - Vilita's a fantastic country.

FB - Yeah yeah but we might have to go to Electrum if Squidroidia end up in a Electrumite group!

NM - What do you want me to do, wait for the draw?

FB - Yes. I'm sure The Inker will help pay for our trip there.

NM - This is almost as confusing as that one time Squidbreak and Wanderers were drawn against each other in Challengers...

Princess Stella Anna Dallas and Jeruselem manager Katherine Annabelle Dallas watching the game at Kate's place between Delaclava and Flavovespia on qualification match day 20

Stella: Hey, this is the same Flavovespia who lost to República Guanacasteca last game?
Kate: Apparently ...
Stella: So we got clobbered by that Delaclava at home, but this Flavovespia is clobbering Delaclava now. But this is the same Flavovespia who lost 3-0 last game
Kate: That's right
Stella: By inference, Flavovespia should beat us up when we play them considering we couldn't beat Delaclava
Kate: But República Guanacasteca proved they are not invincible. And Flavovespia have lost four games.

Stella: So ZwangZug and Flavovespia have byes coming up but for them, it doesn't matter. ZwangZug will finish 1st and Flavovespia finish 2nd.
Kate: Yes, well it now depends who will finish 3rd.
Stella: We lost 3rd spot when we lost to Delaclava
Kate: Yeah I know
Stella: Well, this game looks settled. Flavovespia are going to win, and actually that's the result we wanted from them.
Kate: Sadly yes, we did not want Delaclava to get any more points so we did want Flavovespia to win.

Stella: I guess things will be interesting after this round is over, two more left and two teams with byes are at the top
Kate: Everything now hinges on who takes 3rd spot
Stella: You realise if we somehow get it, we'll end up playing some rather unpleasantly high ranked 2nd placed team anyway
Kate: Better than not even getting to playoff
Stella: I guess so
Kate: Not looking forward to results of this round, I hate byes.

<Later>

Stella: Right, so Hopal, Togonistan, Civia Welephilostopia, Britland and Efnakia are eliminated.
Kate: They were never going to get into top half the group
Stella: ZwangZug will win the group and Flavovespia are securely in 2nd
Kate: That was always confirmed after recent results
Stella: So we got Delaclava on 31, us on 30, Ochre Islands on 29 and República Guanacasteca on 29.
Kate: I would have preferred República Guanacasteca not to have beaten Flavovespia actually

Stella: All those teams have two game to play so no byes to interfere
Kate: Pretty much means all games played by those teams will be important
Stella: Yeah but we have to play Flavovespia next, and WIN. And then beat Efnakia which should a little easier.
Kate: I mean we could get to 36 points which would be pretty good ...
Stella: Now, what do those other have next ...
Kate: Let's see ...

Stella: Delaclava play Efnakia and then Britland.
Kate: Seriously, that's just dream run if you planned it. Those are the bottom two teams.
Stella: Ochre Islands play Hopal and that Civia team ... those teams can spring up unexpected wins so it's not as easy
Kate: True, those teams can be unpleasant road blocks
Stella: And ... República Guanacasteca play Britland then Togonistan.
Kate: That's really a pretty soft run home, as well.

Stella: So none of our rivals play teams in the top half, we have to play Flavovespia next.
Kate: We'll just need to win two games and hope the others lose their games
Stella: I guess that's how we got through last cup
Kate: We sure aren't going to finish in 2nd spot
Stella: We had trouble holding down 3rd spot anyway
Kate: Sadly, it was never secure with Delaclava lurking.

Joseph: Oh, hey ... I didn't know Stella was here. She's half dressed as usual ...
Stella: Not sure how you didn't notice I was here as I'm rather noisy!
Joseph: I was playing a new computer game, so I was pre-occupied
Stella: Unfortunately, I have to go now! You could have watched the world cup game with us.
Joseph: Oh, that's OK ... I wanted to play this game.
Kate: You're lucky she's wearing anything. Mind you she's not wearing any pants.

Refinery Location Settled
Acastanha To Produce Its Own Petrol

Following the incident happened in Penshar after the locals refused the establishment of refinery center in the town. The town mayor, MG Oil representative and the the representative from fishermen and locals were seating together to get a better solution for the issue. Penshar is the most suitable location from the 3 proposed site at the first agreement. But it turned out things are not quite smooth either. Ketampi Oil Bloc is the only oil bloc that Acastanha have. It is part of a huge oil bloc shared with its western neighbor. The nation was lack of energy deposit such as oil, natural gas or coal. And they have to import those commodities in order to fulfill the domestic demands. Pemecutan, Eraman and Sendhang are their main energy trading partners. And Kapakka in Sagamarkan Province is established as oil and gas terminal for distribution throughout the country. While coal is traded via road because Acastanha and Sendhang share a land border.

Acastanha government at first didn't explore their western coast. Even though their western neighbor, Springmont, was producing crude oil from their offshore platform. The federal government then seek help from expert to explore their western sea. MG Oil, Pemecutan largest petroleum company, was there to help. After 2 years of exploration and research, Ketampi Oil Bloc is found and it is actually adjacent to oil bloc own by Springmont. The discovery give joy to the government and they immediately open tender for drilling and oil producing. The tender was won by MG Oil. When MG Oil start their second research for offshore oil rig location, the federal government asked the company to also build a refinery center in Acastanha. So they don't have to deliver the crude oil back to Pemecutan and processed there to be traded back to Acastanha. MG Oil representative agree with the plan. They asked the federal government to give them a proposed site. 3 locations proposed, Bandar Ketam, Praia do Emerita and Penshar. And with ecological and environment consideration, both Bandar Ketam and Praia do Emerita failed to meet the criteria. This left Penshar as the sole candidate. But now they are stopped by the angry locals.

Several meetings were conduct between the 3 parties involved, government, MG Oil and the locals. In the end, MG Oil give the freedom to the locals to choose the ideal location in their mind that the company will choose from based on technical and engineering approached. The locals gave 2 locations, at Minargada and Marataska village. Both located at the outskirt of Penshar which is far enough from the fishing port and salt industry location own by the locals. The 3 parties then went to site visitation in order to see the site in person and calculating its plus and minus before it wi be brought to the company's meeting. And after much consideration, Minargada is selected. The village rely mostly on their farming which has no connection with the coastal area. While Marataska has a salt industry and most of it located on its shoreline. Although the location of Minargada is slightly to the north of Penshar.

The meeting with the locals show a promise as they are agree with the selection. Although they are pointing out about the ship route from the oil rig to Minargada which will passing Penshar coastline. They ask for the route to be on a safe distance so it won't disrupted the fishing area. MG Oil representative take the note.
With the meeting ended in a success. I think we can continue the building plan. Another site visit will be done so we can produce the site planning for the refinery center. This plan of course have to be consult with Minargada village chief and Penshar town council. As the village lies within Penshar, the project will affect them.

Chandra Mineka
MG Oil spokesperson

With the establishment of a refinery center and oil terminal, Acastanha will have 2 oil terminal on its two shore. Minister of Natural Resources, Mahmud Al-Abbas, state that the refinery center is crucial in ensuring Acastanha energy supply. With the growing of its economy, Acastanha energy demand have increase around 10% in the last 5 years. This due to Arra region that being industrialized. The region was known for its plantation and farming commodities. And industry have come to the region shortly. Arrachai, Tabeira and Gajhikapakka have emerge to become Arra's industry center. The establishment of refinery center in the western coast is hoped to increase the economy of the area. Not only for Tabeirakan Province where Penshar lies but also the adjacent provinces, Ocidental and Madeira.

PFFA and TeaFarmers' Ministry of Tourism ink agreement for Friendly Tournament
Drawktea City - The Poafmersian Football Association (PFFA) and the Ministry of Tourism of TeaFarmers have inked an agreement for the organisation of a next-generation friendly tournament in TeaFarmers, with the first edition to be held after World Cup 92.

The tournament, known as the Tea Cup, will be a collaboration project between the two nations in a bid to spread the love of football to TeaFarmers. While it is unclear how negotiations begun, it is understood that major tea-producing conglomerate, Tea Agritech Incorporated, will be the title-sponsor for the tournament, which is expected to be held for at least 4 editions. "The tournament will definitely bring an interesting spin to the sport we all love and enjoy, and can be used as a friendly tour for our football team," said Director of PFFA Jenson Henderson. "We will confirm the participation of our players for the tournament, and provide all the support with regards to the football aspect to our co-organisers in Teafarmers."

For Teafarmers, this would be the country's first exposure to football. The nation, which prides itself for its production of various types of tea and its futuristic cities, has a huge sport following for less common sports, such as 7ball, rugball, and chessboxing, so while it remains to be seen if the tournament will get a huge following in the country, it definitely is something that is worth trying out. There are hopes among other Sonnel nations that interest in football might encourage the nation to participate in the World Cup in the future, and allow the nation to join a growing community of Sonnelians in the World Cup cycle.

The main selling point of the tournament will definitely be the fact that it promotes unconventional formats - something which is of common interest to Poafmers and Tealites (people of Teafarmers) in general. While many aspects of the tournament will be kept as "standard basis", the format will change from edition to edition, with interesting twists and turns that keeps the "fun" aspect in the tournament. "Football rules will be followed for the tournament. The thing that will change is tournament format, and possibly some changes in determining rankings during group stages, etc. The format will be decided by our Teafarmers counterparts, and we merely provide advice in terms of how the proposed format can be applicable to football," added Mr Henderson. A rough structure of the bid will be published in time to come, for interested nations to have a read and consider the participation. "For this tournament, we aren't going to be restricted by numbers. Instead, we will just provide a fixed deadline for sign-ups. How many teams sign-up, we work with that. And our proposed formats would surely be workable with any number of sign-ups, odd or even."

Given the recent trend on evil bids in Poafmersia, Poafmers were particularly excited about their ideal "evil bids" coming to life in the tournament. "I think it is a cool concept, and that it would be a refreshing change from the traditional formats that we are used to in traditional tournmaents," said one Poafmer we interviewed on the streets. Another pointed out that the tournament might be a platform to "reinvent the wheel" and think about formats which can be brought over to solve some problems that the ever-expanding World Cup Qualifiers currently have.

WCQ92: A qualifier in numbers and statistics
Report by Sporting Daily Football Team

Disclaimer: This is an article written in collaboration with OptaPoaf, our official sponsor for this edition of the "World Cup Qualifiers Statistics Website". You may access the website at https://sportingdaily.pf/WCQ92 (https://bit.ly/NSSWCQ92 is the real site)

When Matchday 20 completed itself 2 years ago, during the 91st edition of the World Cup Qualifiers, 4 teams booked direct ticket to the proper, 3 temas had to settle for the playoffs, 19 teams were assured of playoffs, and 46 teams were trying to fight for a spot in the top 3 of their group. This time rouund, 4 teams also booked direct tickets, 2 teams had to settle for the playoffs, but only 14 teams were assured of the playoffs, and a whooping 50 teams were fighting for a top 3 spot.

When 2 tournaments have such similiar formats, tiebreakers, and what not, it seems horrendously simple to compare the 2 tournaments to find out which qualifiers was tougher, which qualifiers was more chaotic, and whether some teams grown way better over the course of the 2 years.

Every cycle, there are 6 teams who can't win.
At this stage last cycle, 6 teams couldn't find a single win. All of them only played 18 games, with the worst of them being Unpleasant, ranked 310th at the start of the tournament, didn't get a single point, and had an extremely leaky defense with 62 goals conceeded, or 3.44 goals against per match. This time, there is also 6 teams who can't win, but it was Ateatncillo, the team who can't score, with 0 points at the bottom, scoring only 7 goals in 18 games, or 0.3889 goals.

WCQ92 had more draws than WCQ91
Last cycle, teams produced a total of 252 draws, out of the 1500 games that were played. This time round, teams produced a total of 287 draws, 35 more draws than before. The highest scoring draw for both cycles were 5-5 draws. Last cycle, there was 3 at this stage - Nyowani Kitara 5–5 Sharktail, HUElavia 5–5 Pemecutan, and Delaclava 5–5 Poafmersia. This time round there are only 2 - República Guanacasteca 5–5 Delaclava, and Nyowani Kitara 5–5 Wreckeria. Notice that Delaclava and Nyowani Kitara loves to produce such hugh scoirng draws.

Defence or Offence?
Last cycle at this stage, it was Ko-oren who took the best record of the tournament, returning 48 points in 19 games. They did it through pure defense, conceding only 5 goals up to this point. The best defencce this cycle belongs to Ranoria, whos is only 2nd in their group, and only managed 37 points in 18 games. In contrast, it was Banija, who has the best offense at the top of the overall table, scoring 58 goals in 18 games, and managing 50 points. Their offense, however, looked bad when compared to Pemecutan last cycle, who scored 64 goals at managed a 14-5-0 record, the third best in the qualifiers at that point. It is also worth noting that teams on average scored less goals this cycle, with 3.43 goals being produced per game, compared to 3.66 goals last cycle.

How many points is safe for top 3?
Teams made it in with as low as 35 points, but 8th ranked Cassadaigua was eliminated with 43 points. They were one of 2 teams that didn't make the playoffs, the other being Audioslavia. But points are a bad indication of whether you can make it, given that Hapilopper managed 50 points, went 15-5-0, and still had to navigate the playoffs; while Flavovespia managed 45 and made it in.

Don't trust your current position
Second seeds last cycle will tell you their sad story. At the current stage, after 20 matchdays, 3 second seeds were top in their group; a further 7 were sitting in a top 3 spot, and 5 was barely outside with a shot at playoffs. In the end, only 1 team booked a direct spot, 8 made the playoffs, leaving 6 right outside with 4th place finishes. In contrast, 3rd seeds last cycle were in much better shape - 2 were eliminated, 4 were outside their group's top 3, 7 were in top 3, and 2 was top. In the end? 3 gained direct spot, 7 made it to the playoffs, and only 5 were eliminated.

Rating: A - Suitable for everybody.

Time: 1h - 20:00-21:00 every Sunday.

You might not know me, so let me present myself. I’m Santiago Campuzano, I’m a foodie and a lover of tourism, culture, and all things folk. This is my first time in National TV and now I’m a man on a mission! I want YOU to hop into this adventure traversing the entirety of this vast country called Huayramarca, land of the Pachamama, high af mountains, jungles, and exotic coasts to get lost! This trip will, for sure, be an interesting one. “¡Dame tu mano y ven conmigo! ¡Vámonos al viaje para buscar los sonidos mágicos de Huayramarca!

*Then, a 1-minute intro to the tune of Huayramarca by the band Illari popped up, showing footage of the cities of Guayaquil, the Huayramarcan Metropolitan District, Sechura, El Alto, Alto Hospicio, Puerto San Carlos among others*

The air is now clean, my friends! We, the staff, are feeling well enough to resume activities! That’s why we are here, in the Province of Guayas to prepare another episode of Enchanting Huayramarca, now free of flatulence! I’m Santiago Campuzano, ready to provide you with the best that the Plurinational State of Huayramarca has to offer you, from culture to food and traditions that aren’t so well publicised; we are in a mission of make the everyday people more visible, their activities and their charm that makes Huayramarca so unique. Come with us for this new episode.

*An aerial view of the Malecón 1990 is displayed at the sound of a drone accelerating and showing some of the best spots of the place, including: La Noria1 de Guayaquil
, a movie theatre and some restaurants in and across the Malecón 1990.*

After departing Andahuaylas when we climbed Pico Centinela, we spent some time in the Metropolitan District as we healed from the intoxication caused for eating those fluffy guinea pigs some episodes ago. As we recovered, we decided to go back to the Coastal Region and the best place possible is the heart of that region, the Province of Guayas, the most populated one in the Plurinational State and the second biggest in terms of economic output. The province is named after the big and powerful river Guayas, which is the main artery for electricity production in Huayramarca, specially for the Sierra and Costa which are the zones that the river flows through.

Arriving at the rather small yet beautifully equipped and clean Eloy de Olmedo International Airport we noticed the most significant characteristic you face when arriving to the Coastal Provinces, the humidity and heat, which are almost unbearable for those used to live in the Sierra or in cold countries. Temperatures might soar to 33-34°C easily with a humidity index of 95% most of the time, making it necessary to carry water and be in air-conditioned places when possible. We met Carla Villacís, our guide for today’s adventure through the beautiful Guayaquil, capital of the bustling Province of Guayas.

We asked Carla about the best places to be in the city, then she told us something we didn’t expected at first glance, she said “I’ll take you to the Santa Ana’s Lighthouse, located at the neighbourhood of Santa Ana, not far away from the airport. As we left from the labyrinth that is the airport’s neighbour road, we managed to get into the Main Highway, a belt road that connects most of the city, including Santa Ana. We had to leave our car in a parking lot, as the main attraction for people isn’t accessible by car, as it is the magic of the place to walk through a collection of stairs and houses that are beautifully decorated by the inhabitants.

To reach the Santa Ana’s Lighthouse one must walk through the 444 stairs that are between the parking lot and the summit of the hill. Through the walk, one can find a variety of businesses and restaurants that will provide you everyday food at popular prices, as this is a quite popular sightseeing spot for the city of aside of La Noria de Guayaquil. Carla told us “It will be a good exercise routine before eating the load of food that will wait for us at the top, or even, during the trip.” We were yet to discover if what Carla said was real or if was just a promise that could fade with the wind.

As we walked through the first couple of stairs, we noted children playing and some people queueing for a coffee at a place called Santiago, as me, (quite a beautiful name, isn’t it?). Most of them were tasting barista specialities such as mochaccino with a rather delicious Yunga de Oro coffee variety. We decided to take some of it for the road, as hydrating and as energizer for what was ahead of us. The coffee was good, if not a bit strong, but we needed that extra punchy taste for the stairs, as it would be quite demanding as we aren’t used to walk through that lot of stairs every day.

We continued and we noticed some special patterns in house painting, it was noticeable that we reached to some sort of Quechua quartier in the middle of Guayaquil, as we observed traditional dressing, letterboards saying rimaykullayki2, which is a welcome sign for the people who want to visit the souvenir shops there.

Guaguas3 are happy, running through all places and are beginning to fly kites as the winter is coming. A manifestation of winter in Guayaquil is the wind, and it is pretty much the only manifestation of this season, that is the perfect time for children to fly and enjoy this activity, which is safe to do here as electricity wiring is subterraneous in this zone. Their parents are in the terraces enjoying coffees or keeping an eye of them, so they don’t fall through the insane number of stairs down to the parking lot.

We reached, finally, the top of the Santa Ana hill, 45 minutes after arriving and taking a slow step enjoying the houses, the children flying kites and the Quechua businesses with their souvenirs. A beautiful place if you ask me, some beautiful flower patches before arriving to the top, then the magnificent view from almost all Guayaquil and its beautiful and big river Guayas. Everything is now set for some food, with perhaps the best landscape in the Huayramarcan Coastal Region, we visited a seafood restaurant to ask for the dish par excellence of the Province of Guayas, that is, encebollado.

Carla asked the chef, David Cedeño to told us about the recipe of encebollado, to what he told us, “Encebollado has been a traditional staple for Guayaquil people since, at least, 100 years. This dish started among fishermen who had long and exhausting journeys in the sea, they needed some help to perform their duties with ingredients that they would have at their reach as soon as possible. That’s why they opted to make a soup with tuna, which ranks among the highest in potential to fish one and being one of the most demanded ones in the markets. Tuna was often accompanied with onion, maize, yucca, and tomato, although modern iterations of encebollado are adding rice, but that’s not appreciated and considered as controversial by many”

We asked about the origin of the controverse, David told us “Encebollado is meant to be something you can easily pick from the sea, rice isn’t a thing that meets that criterion. Fishers are used to have long shifts, perhaps 12 hours ones and they need to prepare something as fast as possible and filler enough to not succumb of hunger while doing their usual duties. Tuna is a big help for them, as the omega 3, 6 and 12 provides a lot of fat, so they can burn it during their job without losing a lot of their energies nor their time while cooking.” Then, he continued “And the fact that this fish is healthy for everyone, that makes encebollado something attractive for many and so widespread through Guayaquil.”

People from all ages start to come to the top of the hill, near the lighthouse, to ask for Encebollado, which seems to be made at industrial scale as demand is high at this moment, but it isn’t. It is all fresh ingredients that are swiftly prepared by David and his team of cookers, trying to deliver something as fast as possible for the insane quantity of clients that are arriving.

After spending some time, we decided to walk down the stairs and then leave Santa Ana, we were heading to the 5 kilometres strip that shows some interesting zones of the river Guayas that act, due to its size, a n ocean arm where sweet water meets salty water, creating an interesting diversity of species in the zone. That’s the Malecón 1990 we mentioned earlier. This strip is known as a famous sightseeing and leisure place for children after finishing their classes. They often go to the movies or play in the multiple attractions that are in the place, such as a go-kart circuit, children’s games and even the thrilling and big Noria de Guayaquil.

But nature plays an important role in the place, as there’s the quite big Santay Island, home of a curious variety of animals that roam freely and people can observe in their natural habitat with, of course, protection of locals and liaisons. Isla Santay has, perhaps, one of the most curious statuses for a protected forested area in all Huayramarca, as people lives there and they coexist with caretakers and liaisons to preserve the animals, which are the real source of tourism for people there. People can observe crocodiles, snakes like the boa constrictor and numerous species of turtles that are wandering as normal through the park. Entrance for this park is free, yet one can provide a voluntary payment for the caretaking duties of the island.

Returning from the Santay Island, we continue to walk in the Malecón, people selling some interesting ice creams got our attention, it was an artisanal vendor of helados4, which are the most important ally for those who can’t stand the heat of Guayaquil. Ice creams have a different variety, from vanilla, chocolate, cacao from Cocoamarca and quinoa5 from the Sierra waiting for your taste. We grabbed one for each one and then walked through the Malecón, the influx of people started to grow as children were leaving their schools, they were riding some of the mechanical games to enjoy the moment or some others decided to venture to the most important Ferris wheel of the zone, “La Noria de Guayaquil”.

La Noria de Guayaquil is a Ferris Wheel that was built 3 years ago, as an initiative from the major of Guayaquil, to provide an alternative viewpoint for people if they wanted to see Guayaquil from the air, an alternative to Santa Ana and those people who won’t like to walk those 444 stairs to the top of the lighthouse. This 65-metre-high wheel has 36 cabins that are acclimatised and have crystal panels to ensure a spectacular view of the skyline of Guayaquil. La Noria has a cost of $18 Intis to get into a cabin for a whole rotation, that lasts for 12 minutes, and will have some interesting safety equipment just in case of need.

The cabins only allow 4 people to get in, preferably family members or friends, unless demand is high so you might get randomly sorted to get in with a stranger. As La Noria goes up, the view gets more interesting as some of the most important buildings of Guayaquil are visible, such as El Helicoide, which is a twisted-like building from its façade, aside from the Banco de la Costa tower, which is the tallest in Huayramarca standing at 425 meters high. This is the landscape at night atop La Noria, one that displays a lot of the neighbourhoods of Guayaquil, even some of the most avoided ones that are known as Guasmos which are under a process of social renewal by the authorities, by creating safe spaces, preparing the zones to be friendlier than those are right now.

Guayaquil has, without doubt, managed to build some interesting character around fishing and the magnificent river Guayas, which has given to the locals the blessing to have some exotic fauna and flora, aside from interesting traditions such as the elaboration of encebollado as a quick dish for those who must do a lot of effort in their daily routine. Nonetheless, the process of transformation of this city, leaving aside the dark past that got it submerged during the Mina Regime to get into a shinier path of prosperity and growth for the Plurinational State. That’s part of the Province of Guayas, one that we will show more in depth in the next episode, as we will visit two important places in said province such as Daule and Montañita. Cheers!

2. It doesn’t have a straight translation to any language, although, its closest equivalent with Spanish is “te saludo con cortesía” or, in English, “I greet you courteously”.
3. Slang for children in Spanish.
4. Means “Ice Cream” in Spanish.
5. Cereal-like nut used as topping for ice creams.

The Red League All-Decade Team
10: Forwards - First Team

By: Jordan Lawless, Chief Correspondent

The three players that follow were longstanding members of their club that turned in the goals, year after year. They are club legends, they are reasons why their team won titles, and they all ended up being major parts of their national teams. They are the definition of what it means to be an All-Decade First Team Player.

The Red League All-Decade First Team Forward: ImageLainey Wadsworth, Anomalies

The mainstay in Anomalies for a long, illustrious career, Wadsworth was part of the era where Anomalies won three straight titles. Even though the team took a backward step, Lainey continued to churn out the goals through season seven, making it to the Team of the Season five straight seasons before bowing out. With a killer instinct and a tendency to show up in big matches, the Baker Parker showed that the Commonwealth had class.

The Red League All-Decade First Team Forward: ImageJustiina Dannysdóttir, Crossroads

One of the most established names in all of the Red League, Justiina Dannysdóttir single-handedly carried the Crusaders for multiple seasons, leading them to numerous IFCF berths when they couldn't really match the other top squads in the area of team talent. With the ability to create her own chances and the reliability to show up whenever it mattered the most, she is famous for scoring back-to-back hat tricks to lead the Crusaders to a playoff berth spot over Tihon in a memorable season back in Season Seven, a performance that has cemented her in both the history of the club and of the league as a whole. Widely respected throughout the entire league, the Græntfjaller just recently called it quits, and leaves a legacy that has her heralded as one of the best strikers to ever play in the Red League.

The Red League All-Decade Second Team Forward: Image/ImageEnrico Hanson-Conavacio, Myana

Death, taxes, and Enrico Hanson-Conavacio being on the Team of the Season. After being acquired for a hefty sum of money in the second season of the Red League, the Quebecois-Schottic forward has been a mainstay at the top of the goalscoring chart for the Islanders, making the Team of the Season nine times in a row during the stretch, five times in the first team and winning the Golden Boot multiple times. Sure, the Islanders didn't win another title in the nine seasons that we are considering for this accolade (they won again in Season Eleven, after all), Enrico has been synonymous with goalscoring. Yes, he has had all the help in the world - the Islanders do run a 4-2-3-1 that favors the striker - but it takes a special striker to continue to be one of the best in the league in terms of goalscoring, and he fits that requirement to a t. A club legend, and the very epitome of consistency.

The Third Chromatik Premier Election

Meet the Candidates #9 Antoine Buxton - The Reminder

When talking about candidates for the Premier election, you run into all types. Career politicians, academics, authors, retired military personnel - but they've all had one thing in common - they have a supporting base, they have a platform, and they have already established themselves in some position when it comes to the political landscape of this country.

Meet Antoine Buxton, attorney at law, who defies all that.

Fifteen years ago, Mr. Buxton was a part of the Chromatik Party's machine, working as a correctional officer in one of the reeducation camps. He was taught to correct the thinking of those that opposed the party by whatever means necessary. Usually, the Chromatik Party started with brainwashing from a young age, along with severe conditioning and the screening/censoring of almost anything that the population heard; if that didn't work, people would disappear for weeks at a time to be reeducated. Mr. Buxton was placed in one of the reeducation camps for teenagers to encourage them to renounce their beliefs and turn toward the ways of the Party.

The more he continued with his work, the more he started to empathize with the people he was supposed to be reeducating. In fact, he swears that it was one of the teenagers that he was forced to work with - a young man by the name of Ivan - that turned his life around. Ivan, before he was sent away to some dark corner of Chromatika to never be seen again, looked at Antoine in the eyes and said that he didn't hold anything against him - that he knew that Antoine was just a mindless cog in the machine, and that his battle was against those that were in power. This statement so shocked Antoine that he started to look at what he was doing from the fundamental level, and his own personal rebellion began.

He was almost caught before the start of the Rainbow Revolution. With the Revolution, he joined the rebellion and told the Rebellion about all the dark spots of the Chromatik Party that he was aware of. Unfortunately, he couldn't find Ivan, but he chose to live in Ivan's memory. Past the revolution, Antoine learned law at Chromia Central College University and became a prosecuting attorney, specializing in cases against the previous elite and those that wanted to live under the rock, specializing in charges aimed at the Checkers Party, then the Traditionalists.

After the destruction of the Traditionalists, Antoine Buxton quit Death Templars Law Firm, where he had promoted all the way to be one of the five best lawyers in the entire firm. He instead declared his intention to run for the Premiership, with a very simple platform: A government that remembers the vision of young Ivan all those years ago - a government that is built on freedom of the individual to grow and to live a full life. According to Antoine, all the parties have gone too far. The Rainbow Party is looking to move on too fast, while the Red Party is too extreme in holding onto hate. The Spade Party is looking for the government to do too much for the individual, while the New Light Party is too busy walking a political tightrope to commit to anything. No, says Antoine Buxton, he is the person that can lead Chromatika to the future that it had in mind when the Revolution began.

His campaign started by himself and the two paralegals that had helped him throughout his career as a lawyer. It gained support from other lawyers in the Death Templars Law Firm that thinks the same way. Now, he has over five hundred thousand signatures in a country of just about twenty million people - the number needed to be placed on the ballot as an independent.

Does he really think that he can win? No, of course not. However, just his presence is a statement in all its own. The people are watching, and if they think that the government isn't doing what it is supposed to, they aren't afraid to rise up again.

It'd be best to not test it.

REMAINING SCHEDULE: @ Genjs, vs. Chromatika

Five Things I Think I Think - Late Qualifying Edition

1. If Chromatika wins the match against Atetancillo at The Frozen Stadium, they clinch at least the playoffs. Sendhang and Ko-oren are both at 37 points, and there are no more games in hand for Group Eleven. If the Chromatiks take care of business at home with a full-strength lineup against the worst team in the group - who sports a 0-0-18 record - they at least clinch the playoffs, no matter the Brookstation result. Chromatika has been brilliant at home all tournament long, only conceding eight goals while scoring twenty-four; they shouldn't have too much of an issue, only giving one negative result at home - to Gnejs, who has been the biggest boogeyman for the Anomalies this cycle (they have cost the Anomalies four points, while both Ko-oren and Sendhang have only taken three). This is almost a guaranteed result, but one that they sorely need if they are to make it to the World Cup Proper for the first time in three cycles.

2. Brookstation's away game at Gnejs isn't a given. Brookstation, though stellar at home, has been spotty on the road. Dropping one road match in the second leg of qualifying - to Sendhang, who also handed the Anomalies a defeat - the upstarts have gone 2-1-0 in the last three away matches, but two of them were against subpar opposition, with a draw against Juvencus. As Gnejs is the team that has handled the Anomalies the best, they could give the Chromatiks a leg up by either holding Brookstation to a draw or even defeating them. A draw and a win against Atetancillo could give Chromatika a three point lead heading into the fateful match, with a superior Goal Differential to boot. Even if Chromatika were to lose, it'd be difficult for Brookstation to make up a goal deficit of more than five. If Gnejs would defeat Brookstation, it could give the Chromatiks the group title with a game outstanding. Basically, with the Dreamers' road form and Gnejs's tendency for tripping up opposition, there is a nonzero possibility it won't even go to the final matchday.

3. Brookstation will not be an easy opponent in their home venue. Sure, they've had two draws at home, but they've conceded three less goals than Chromatika's home record, and they sport a +11 Goal Differential at home. They haven't lost on home soil, and don't look poised to do that anytime soon. Despite being more offensively tailored than the Anomalies, the Dreamers actually have a better defense than the Chromatik side. Chromatika has suffered two road defeats in the return leg - arguably, it was against the first and third seeds in the group - but with the fact that they only drew against Juvencus, it doesn't really inspire confidence. Now, the game against Atetancillo should make it so that even a draw would win the title, but Brookstation definitely gets the edge in their home venue.

4. If they drop this, it would be the biggest collapse in Chromatik history. Last cycle, there was no catching Pemecutan. Sure, the loss to Zeta Reka in the playoffs was brutal in penalties, but there was never a chance for the Anomalies to win their group to begin with. The cycle before that, they were trying to just make it to the playoffs, caught by Nyowani Kitara at the end. This time, Chromatika led most of the way through qualifying, and even had a three-nil victory over Ko-oren to start things off. Besides the results to Gnejs, all the negative results have come against the top four seeds. Repin has his team playing at a high level, taking down the opponents that they are supposed to be able to take down, and poised to return to the World Cup for the first time in three cycles. If they blow this, here? Even if they end up in the playoffs by virtue of taking down Atetancillo, it would be a massive letdown, and it'd be hard to raise both the morale of the players and the fans. No, they have to win this, and they have to do it now.

5. This is the team that can actually do it. Chromatika has won both close and by a lot during this qualfying cycle. Sporting five wins by three goals, they've shown they can absolutely take over a game; they're also 4-4-2 in games decided by a goal either way, which shows that they know how to get points in close games. Remember - as long as they take care of business against Atetancillo, a draw would do it against Brookstation. With plenty of veteran leadership - Juxon Fillar, Henri de Aea, and Vasiliy Marten Kuznetsov - as well as young talent - Edith Fillar, Baillaire Fillar, and the newly emerging prince of Lavrentiy Xuen-Zhukov - Chromatika has effectively transitioned to the new philosophy put forward by Lev Repin. Now, it's time for the crown jewel, to return back to the promised land and start planning on potentially upsetting the balance of world football. This is the year.

Elmyia Are in Qualification Form
Massi's side are proving they can mix it with the best

In the second half of qualification, Elmyia have truly kicked on. Since the halfway point of qualification, Elmyia have taken 15 points with a goal difference of +11 over the course of the last 8 games, the third best record in the group.

If Elmyia were to replicate this form over the course of qiualifying, then they would be in the mix in what would be a very tight qualification group, with the top 7 sides all within three points of each other. Elmyia clearly have become increasingly comfortable taking on sides of real quality, and the Massi revolution that was promised finally seems to be coming together.

Elmyia's strong performances have been built on an increasing defensive solidity, having only conceded 4 goals in the last 8 games. This has been particularly impressive, given that they have scored 15 goals in that time. The introduction of Sofia Katsouranis at wing-back seems to have helped produce some of this form, with her putting in multiple impressive performances, particularly in the thrashing of Darkmania, and impressive three nil win over Chartistan.

Massi had repeatedly promised that his side would take time to adapt, that hopes of qualification were low and he needed time to get methods across. These assertions seem to have been valid. Massi had been repeatedly criticised in the first half of qualifying, his defence looked leaky, with three 5-2 defeats, and Elmyia seemed to struggle when they did have the ball. The tipping points seem to have been with his increased focus on fitness and conditioning, with players such as Phoebe Harris falling out of favour, and players such as Katsouranis, Scoular and Byng who have shown a willingness to run and follow instructions.

Overall, Massi is clearly setting up Elmyia for a bright future, the question is, can they keep it up?

The Overlap Tactics Blog
The Switch to 3-5-2 is Working - Both in Attack and Defence

One thing was clear as Elmyia's players applauded the crowd at Tollington Park, this is working. Both the overhaul of the national side generally and the shorter term tactical changes he made post the tight one-nil defeat to Valanora.

The long term tweaks he has made are well documented and have attracted much praise. The changes to fitness, the increased focus on situtational pressing and running have allowed Elmyia to tighten up at the back. 4 goals conceded in 8 games, including the clean sheet agaisnt Chartistan, are an impressive testament to the defensive imoprovement. It is clear that the back three of Grosso, Freschi and Flewin are both now comfortable playing zonally, and also that their increased fitness has allowed them to defend proactively.

However, the recent tweak to formation and personnel have transformed Elmyia's attack. The formation has switched from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2, combined with switching Katsouranis in for Dickinson this has produced a marked upturn in Elmyia's attacking output. The idea that having one fewer player in the front line might increase Elmyia's capabilities going forward seems counter intuitive, and this is one of the situations where formation notation can be misleading. Whilst 3-4-3 theoretically has one player in the forward line, in reality Elmyia were pushing fewer players forward.

In attack, generally it was the front three of Beluigi, Benedetti and Froggatt going forward, with maybe Speight or Chapman pushing up to supplement from midfield. On the counter this would sometimes work, three players attacking two centre backs allowed space to open up and the trio to produce goals. Against settled defences though, this wasn't enough. With 4 players back, Elmyia couldn't overload the opposition defence, and found themselves crowded out whenever they had possession. Any attempt to press forward further left Elmyia exposed somewhere, if both Speight and Chapman pushed up they would leave the midfield vacant, creating ample room to be countered in. Should Scoular or Dickinson press up, Elmyia were exposed both on the wings, and Dickinson struggled in possession. The switch countered some of this.

The 3-5-2 formation both was made possible, and worked well, due to switches in the players on the pitch. Byng and Benedetti started upfront, a pacey and energetic front two. Supplementing this, however, is the fact that a third midfielder is available to push up, whilst leaving a cover of two behind them, both Reid and Galli have impressed in this role. Additionally, the introduction of Katsouranis at wing-back has provided another attacking outlet and some much needed width, with Scoular performing a slightly less overtly attacking role on the other side. This switch can be credited with a lot of Elmyia's recent goal glut. In particular, Katsouranis can be at least partially credited with all three goals against Chartistan. Two are obvious, her own long range effort and the cross to tee up Reid for a header speak for themselves. But of particular interest was the first goal in the 17th minute. Katsouranis passes to Speight outside of the area and peels out wide to take a return pass. This drags left-back Liam Barney out, leaving a gap that Byng ghosts into, who then cuts back for Benedetti to finish. Her prescence alone helped create the gaps for Elmyia's attack to flourish.

An underrated side of Elmyia's switch, however, has been the improvement in defensive structure. Having the two midfielders able to sit further back has provided more cover on the counter-attack. Speight and Chapman are able to sit further back, no longer charged with supplementing the attack, this prevents gaps in midfield and has seen a lot of attacks broken up at source. On the wings, and by rights Elmyia should be far more exposed than before. Katsouranis and Scoular are pushing much further ahead than previously, leaving gaps behind them. Here, the improvements in the centre-backs pace has allowed Grosso and Flewin to push out to the wings and close down wingers, meanwhile Speight and Chapman sit tight in front of the other two centre-backs providing adequate cover.

The change in formation has transformed Elmyia's fortunes, with further tests coming up Al-Quarija and Independent Athletes from Quebec, it is on their opponents to adapt.

Agung conceded defeat

Pasirpura: Eraman head coach Agung Suryanantha conceded that the squad failed to get a ticket to the World Cup qualification playoffs after losing 0-1 to Audioslavia at the Pasirpura Stadium last night. Although there are still two matches left in the World Cup qualification campaign, the coach from Pemecutan said the Monkey Kings squad is not able to catch up in Group 8.

"For me, the players have given their best but as soon as Audioslavia scored the first goal, our players followed the pace of the opponent. We should have moved the ball faster but it was not possible for the players to do it tonight which caused us to lose," he said.

In the match, Audioslavia made sure they collected three points as a result of Lázaro Patrón's goal in the 34th minute. The victory ensured that Audioslavia, who played in Group 8, booked a slot in the World Cup qualification playoffs even though there are still two games left as Eraman is mathematically impossible to catch up.

Boot It!: Close To Zero...But Not Impossible

Postby TJUN-ia » Wed Oct 19, 2022 5:36 am

By Peter Davis

After a 4-1 win was overshadowed by a National Reawakening, the Jaguars of TJUN-ia were now in an interesting position both in this group and in the wider world itself. The National Reawakening means that while individual TJUN-ians can make political statements, the representative bodies of TJUN-ia (like the FA or MRO or the Government itself) cannot. This is important as while it was agreed that black armbands would be worn due to events in the Northlands for the rest of WCQ, that was a player decision and not an FA decision. Meanwhile, the group situation was pretty simple entering this window...3 points back on Tumbra, 2 back on Mytanija with 12 points left to fight for. We still had a chance of pulling off a miracle and winning this group...but how would that change over these next two games.

Up first was 6th placed Cabo Azure in their house and this game was certainly one we would remember...for all the wrong reasons. The last time we faced Las Maçaricas, we ended up with a 2-2 draw and while back then it didn't really mean much, every dropped point could be fatal now...and everyone knew it, even the opposing manager Paulinho. This game was an example of chaotic football when one team wanted the points but the other was pulling out all the stops to deny that fact. TJUN-ia took the lead THREE TIMES in this contest, with Archer Andrews scoring in both halves and Jackson Smith-Scott trying to win it with 15 minutes to go, but each time Cabo Azure responded with a resounding thud. First, it was Nicodemo Corte, then Cleto Silveira in the 2nd and then the final dagger in the 87th minute from an unmarked Seth Rathbone. Heartbreak. Tumbra won, and Mytanija drew. We're now 5 off the lead and still 2 back on 2nd.

David Seems didn't want to see a golden chance slip from his fingers one more time and thus, making a statement was the only goal in mind when 8th-placed Ancherion came to Rio Pacífico. The Estádio do Pacífico has hosted a late-season game before in the WCQ process and here, UAS would go 2nd to last and produce a result so convincing some in U1 may get some unfortunate memories from it. We were just...ruthless in what we did, like a united clan or a republic on a river, as TJUN-ian football needed a catharsis...and my word, did we get one. Malhrani al-Kalhrani managed a first-half hattrick, Archer Andrews got a brace in the 2nd half with both Kelo Ngwemanagawa and Frederico Jiminez ending up adding to the chaos. The visitors did end up getting one goal, thanks to Herve Aydin, but other than that, this was a demolition. A wake-up call we desperately needed before a big final two games.

Mytanija are level with us, we play them in Esca. Tumbra is 5 points ahead still...if we are still in touching distance, then the final shot will be at the National Stadium itself. Our rules are simple: we need 6 points and for Tumbra to collapse to win this group. But watch out, as Talannua and Ziwana are still within reach of us behind if we really fuck it up.
It's boom or bust now.
Either we pull off a miracle, settle for the playoffs or collapse into dust.
No matter what, we must fight until the very end.

Football > World Cup
Atheara Officially Eliminated With Two Losses
Matchdays eighteen and nineteen. You realize that we are pretty much nearing the end of the World Cup Qualifying... A few more matchdays and we all can say goodbye to the World Cup Qualifying, then hello to the Cup of Harmony (If your nation was invited), the playoffs (If your tram finishes in a playoff spot), or maybe just say hello directly to the World Cup (If your country finished in a direct qualification spot, by finishing first... I think). Though, a lot of nations would pretty much be saying goodbye from international foptball for quite a bit, except if you watch other countries than your own play matches. And for that, I'm certain almost, if not all of us actually do. I myself will be watching the World Cup in person, so do exprct me to be there. Maybe you can even find me among the crowd (Which is extremely unlikely, but hey, who knows).

Now, let's return to the main point of this outlet this time. With two losses, it is officially confirmed that Atheara is out of qualifying contention. And I'll be honest, qualification was never our objective. The task that The Blue Guard had was just to return, take a dip back into inernational football and get comfortable to start as a constant contender once again ever since our WCQ91 pause. And for a returning nation who's rank has certainly dropped due to a lot of competition, I'd say we are and will be doing quite well. It's not everyday that a returning nation can actually give a difficult challenge for the actual contenders. Speaking of actual contenders, we pretty much lost to them. A 2 - 0 loss againat Saint Eleanor on home ground in Schennerwits, and a 1 - 0 loss against THE (THE? THE who? Yeah, it's an inside joke that Athearans know The Holy Empire just by it's trigramme and question THE state of THE because we find the trigramme a bit funny... Get it? No? Okay I guess, also no offense to The Empire itself).

The first match we will discuss is the match agaonst Saint Eleanor. Saint Eleanor were sitting near the top of the group and Atheara sat around the 7th spot. Both sides were using their most powerful starting line up, so the match was deemes to be an exciting one. And even though Atheara lost the match, it was still a tense affair. Saint Eleanor was able to edge out against us thanks to their man of the match, Sylvia Hollenberg. She scored the two goals that gave Saint Eleanor the edge in the match. The first was a simple open goal from an assist that surprisingly came from Katie O'Donnell on the 20th minute of the match, a backheel to fool out Emanuel Coelho as Sylvia struck the ball past Mikel Horzabath Krygorf to takee the lead of the match The second goal came from Sylvia netting a header from a corner taken quickly by Jessica Martin on the 89th minute of the match.

Overall, a good performance that was just outclassed by a better team. There were too many highlights of the defense and midfield having a great match by quickly starting the counter and keeping most of the opposition offense lock shut. But either way, Atheara and The Blue Guardhad to move on because their next opponent was The Holy Empire's hamsters, and they were playing on away ground. The enviroment in The Dreamed Realm was quite different and this was the first time Atheara played against The Holy Empire on their home ground. Although the players, and the fans were able to adapt to the place, it still didn't help Atheara as the players adapted too latr. Radar Snicklefritz the 1st was able to score one past The Blue Guard as the hamster proxeeded to run through the defense, before chipping the ball over Horzabath as he had came out from the line to try and stop Snicklefritz before it was able to get too close. Sadly, that didn't really work out in the end.

And that's all I really have for matchdays eighteen and nineteen. Honestly, not quite good results but to be fair, maybe with Atheara being already eliminated from qualifiers means that the team can try and focus just on their next opponents. And speaking of our next opponents, they are Nyowani Kitara and Quakmybush. We won our previous matches against them, with the one againat Nyowani Kitara being the true surprise. Let's hope The Blue Guard can give us a great performance against the two teams for the near end of qualifiers. Over and out!

Estadio Santiago, Puerto Santiago, HUElavia

Don't Stop Believing!

HUElavia scores dramatic late goals to keep the World Cup Qualification alive heading into the Final Matchdays!

Entering Matchdays 17 and 18, HUElavia had their toughest pair of games in the qualifiers: Away at Savojarna and Home versus Brenecia. These two matches would determine if HUElavia would still be alive for Qualification or the Playoffs coming into the last two matchdays. With how high stakes the matches were, the A-Team was put on the field, in an all-in attempt to get the most points possible.

The first match saw strong domination from Savojarna, as they had HUElavia playing defensively throughout the match. Despite how defensive HUElavia was playing, they would break out for counterattacks down the wings and try to play the ball center, but saves and blocks from Virulainen would prevent any shots from going into the goal. Casillas also had his saves during the match, blocking shots mainly from Alvesen and Ehlers. In the 68th minute, a cross by Ostberg went into the box, where Casillas punched the ball, but it hit around his wrists, which led to a scramble in the box, only for Poulsen to be left unmarked and tap the ball into the goal, making it 1-0. The Savojars in the stadium were jumping and cheering, celebrating what could be their direct qualification to the World Cup. HUElavia did continue to press hard, now playing more offensively, until in the 90+1st minute, where a counter attack saw Amezcua (in for Nascimento) running with the ball, before passing to her left, allowing Honda to take a low shot in between the legs of Magnusson and past the reach of Virulainen into the goal, making it 1-1. Honda was mobbed by her teammates and the bench in celebration while the stadium was stunned and silenced at the goal, as HUElavia all of a sudden kept their hopes alive with the goal. Shortly after, the match ended and both teams had to contend with a draw.

The second game was a very stressful match, as Brenecia would push to prove their might and look to send HUElavia out of contention with their skill and strength. Once more, HUElavia had to start out in the defensive position in order to prevent any goals in, and the back four with Casillas held tight with blocks and saves from Casillas, as well as deflections off the back four. HUElavia would get their counterattacks in place and get some shots in, but Meade would make blocks and saves to prevent any goals from going in. In the 75th minute, a counterattack from Brenecia saw a shot taken by Stokes get saved by Casillas, but it fell at an angle where Wake would come up to blast it into the near-empty goal with Casillas scrambling to save, making it 0-1, leaving the HUElavians silenced and stunned, while the Brenecians celebrated what looked like the security into the Playoffs at the least. HUElavia began to attack even more than what they did against Savojarna, and in the 90th minute, a pass from Navarro-Hamada would slide into the box for Aveiro to tap it into the goal, making it 1-1. Nascimento got the ball and everyone ran to center circle as the fans began to liven up and start cheering to support the team in a grand effort to go for what could be a historic victory. 80 seconds later, a cross by Vargas would float into the box, with Aveiro going over Shrine to head the ball past the hands of Meade into the goal, making it 2-1. The stadium erupted, with the fans cheering and jumping to make the stadium shake and rumble, while Aveiro was mobbed by his teammates and the bench for what looked like the game-winning goal. HUElavia tried to get another attack going, but Brenecia went on full defense to prevent any other goals from flying in. Shortly after, the match ended to the great relief of the HUElavians, as they kept their qualification dreams alive.

Entering the final two matchdays, Group 12 stands with Savojarna in 1st with 43 Points (13-4-1), Adab in 2nd with 41 Points (12-5-1), Brenecia in 3rd with 41 Points (13-2-3), and HUElavia in 4th with 38 Points (11-5-2). HUElavia will visit The Karodin Tetrarchy for the next game, followed by hosting 95X for the final matchday. The A-Team is expected to start both games as the team looks to go for the most points while hoping that the Top 3 drop points to give HUElavia a fighting chance for the World Cup. While the odds may be low, the team knows they control their destiny to keep the dream alive, and know they have to give their all. Here's to what can be a dramatic and exciting final two matchdays, and what could be a continuation of the World Cup dream.

Soon, It Shall Be Our Final Stand

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Wed Oct 19, 2022 6:48 am

"In order to keep our hopes alive heading into the final 2 games, we need as many points as possible and for Pemecutan to potentially slip up." That was what I said after the last cycle as the Huuhkajat tries to pull off one of the most remarkable runs in the history of sports in this Rogue Kingdom by somehow making a WC at the 4th time of asking. Esko Laaksonen has gone into full "we ain't the underdogs we used to be mode" and you could certainly feel that no matter what happens in the final 4 games, football in Kimi-Suomi is certainly in better standing than once thought. Katsotaan mitä tällä kertaa tapahtui.

Let's start back at Pesä where Srednjaci was in town and looking to try and cause an almighty upset in this Pot 5 vs Pot 6 matchup. We, the Pot 5 team, were battling for a WC spot while our opponents, the Pot 6 team, were battling for pride and were already eliminated. Funny how things play out sometimes...and this game would highlight the new gulf that existed between Kimi-Suomi and Srednjaci. Srednjaci did get their chances in and certainly could've scored a goal in this game...but Kauko Loukamaa simply wasn't allowing it and his clean sheet would give the rest of the team plenty of time to make sure the home crowd went home happy...with Kimi Airo, Tero Salo and Teemu Räikkönen making it 1, 2, 3-0 to the Huuhkajat here in Kimi Kaupunki. And then the news came back. Lakikieli beat Pemecutan 3-2. Legalese beat Pemecutan 3-2. We were now tied at the top.

And then we travelled to the Libira National Stadium to face the team only below us by a single point. Perunanviljelijät. Poafmersia. Adnan Suliaha wanted a big win in order to take 2nd away from us and the game we would play here in Fiskadaha City was certainly one for the ages. Kilikina Lee took the lead early on to the roar of the crowd, but a first-half brace from Valtteri Nordström would swing the advantage back in our favour. The 2nd half would see the swing head the other way with Aapeli Shea equalising in the 54th and Lee grabbing her 2nd in the 79th to retake the lead...and that's when Esko threw everything at the wall. It finally broke in the 85th when Mika Noronen found his way past the Nicole Potts...and that's how this game ended. 3-3. What a fucking game. What a fucking season. And with two games to go, the gap to the front is 2 points and the gap to the end of it all is 4.

Pemecutan at home, Tecoinen [Tecoia] on the road. Those are our final two games. Pure and simple. We know what we need to do. If we beat Pemecutan in Pesä, then we need to better their result on the final day. If it's a draw, that could open the door for a 4-way shootout on the final day. If we lose, then Pemecutan win the group and we have to start making sure we get to the playoffs at all. Everything will be on the line next time. And I mean everything.
Two more fucking games. Either we pull off a miracle, enter the playoffs with our heads held high or experience a collapse that would shatter us all.
Something has to give. And we have to fight until the very end if we don't want this unexpected dream to die.

The Rock Lodge

Jakob and Hannah walked out from what had been one of the few joint processing cabinet meetings they had ever attended. It wasn’t common for the administration to be in attendance when the government convened, at least not MCSCA administration, but they had been called in due to their «crucial knowledge» of the topic at hand.

That ‘knowledge’ - about how Baggieland was a dirty schemer that had engineered a plot with pirates stealing valuable forks and gifting them to the Union with the sole purpose of international humiliation when the whole thing was exposed - was of course all poppycock. They knew nothing of the mechanics behind all the strange things that had transpired of late, and had only really taken advantage of a situation to pursue their own ends (delivering Symbolic Death to former Senior Adviser Øystein Øye). Now they were just cleaning up and covering their own asses.

Lying to the cabinet and spinning up a tale of deep betrayal from an old time Friend had been surprisingly easy. It seemed like deceit and conspiracy came naturally to them these days. And their tale had shocked many of the cabinet members, to the point where a few of them were ready to adopt the MCSCA proposition of going as far as publicly condemning Baggieland and announcing their Rock of Friendship revoked for eternity. That would’ve have been unheard of; in all of Union history never had a Rock once given been revoked.

The Rock would not be revoked though, and that was mostly due to the efforts of the Minister for Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Lennart Andersson, who had made a passionate plea for not betraying the sacred bond of Friendship that the Rock represented. The prospect of going against the Customs of Friendship in that manner shamed the cabinet to such a degree that they all agreed upon burying the ‘knowledge’ of Baggieland’s wrongdoing and accept the international humiliation of fork theft complicity, however involuntary it might be. The forks would of course be returned to their rightful owners, and the Prime Minister himself would be the one bringing them back, begging Forgiveness on his knees as was the custom. It was the Terranean knife scandal of ‘86 all over again.

Minister Andersson was a great traditionalist, and he had often spoken on behalf of honoring the Bonds of Friendship, for example during the incident with Little Lars and Goran McEnroe a few years back. Yet this time he had really gone all out and put on a very uncharacteristically emotional performance.

Jakob and Hannah moved away from the crowded hall and towards the windows overlooking the Meridian Quarter of Port Kejm. Jakob cleared his throat. “That was, eh, interesting. But I guess it keeps us in the clear all the same, right?”

Hannah shook her head. “No. A revoking of the Rock would have been unprecedented, and put the entire Union’s focus on bringing Baggieland down. All else would’ve been forgotten. This? It’ll keep people very busy - arranging trips, writing speeches etc. - for a while. But you know how the Prime Minister hates getting on his knees. He’ll want to blame someone when he’s done atoning. They’ll look into how the forks got to the Institute, who was involved, everything. And we’ve got liabilities everywhere. You know Lena cracks under pressure, and we’ve got Øystein sailing the seventy-seven seas, fully informed and no doubt angry at us. No, this only makes things worse for us,” she said and sat down on one of the ottomans by the window.

“It seems like we have a common problem,” a deep voice thundered behind them. Hannah and Jakob swung around, and there was Minister for Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lennart Andersson. The old man approached them, sat down on an adjacent ottoman and studied the two bureaucrats with his cold grey eyes. When the silence lingered, Hannah cleared her throat and asked “How’s that, minister?” Andersson smiled slightly, got up and looked out of the window. Finally, he spoke. “Former Senior Adviser Øystein Øye. And this Lena character as well, perhaps. But mainly Øye.” The little spot by the window returned to silence, as the busy bees of the Union government apparatus continued their labor in the surrounding halls.

Finally the minister turned around and looked at the pair. “I’ll show you. Come with me.”

Later. Deep within the Interior

Jakob and Hannah were walking through dark woods. It felt like they’d walked for hours, but it was hard to tell because Minister Andersson and his aides had relieved them of phones and watches. None of them had spent much time in the Interior outside of The Hearth and it’s immediate surroundings before, and they were both starting to feel anxious. To begin with the woods had been dotted with a homestead here and there, but now they had walked for a long time without seeing even the faintest sign of civilization. Then suddenly a large stone structure appeared. “Welcome,” Minister Andersson said, “to The Rock Lodge.”

They were brought inside and found themselves in a large hall with a musky smell. A few lodgers were seated at small tables dotted along the walls, and Jakob and Hannah recognized several of them as semi-prominent society and business people. There was the Director General for the Coast Guard sitting along with a high-ranking member of the Interior Constabulary, and over there by the back wall was the CEO of the state-owned mining company Mine Your Own Business.

Andersson motioned for them follow, and he lead them to a smaller room on the second floor. They sat down at a large table, and Hannah asked what all this was about. Andersson started speaking. “This is the true heart of Gnejs. Forget about the Union, forget about all the façade of Port Kejm and the Meridian. It is the Lodge that moves our Rock forward.” The minister then proceeded to explain the inner workings of the last weeks strange events, and how their secret society operated in both Baggieland and Gnejs, working covertly - beyond good and evil - to steer the kindred nations towards a greatness beyond imagination.

To Jakob and Hannah it mostly sounded like an overly elaborate setup to possibly (and even then only slightly) enrich a handful of people by financing small-scale piracy. They exchanged glances of confusion, and Jakob said. “Ok.. Eh, that’s.. Nice, I guess. And… Why are we here?”

Minister Andersson smiled. “You are here because we have common problems. Lena of the Institute, which is being dealt with as we speak. Landsman Øye, which we will get to. And, the two of you. You are both common, and a problem.”

Jakob and Hannah exchanged even more confused looks. “Excuse me, what?” Hannah spluttered out. Minister Andersson laughed loudly, and then shouted “Steve?” A man stepped out of the shadows and called out “Present” Andersson smiled. “Please escort our guests to our Chamber of Injustice”. Steve brandished a rather nasty looking rapier and made the two horrified bureaucrats move out through a side door.

Lodge Master Andersson laughed again, and he screamed out “Killer Bob?” Another man emerged from the shadows and whispered “Present”. The Lodge Master pointed towards the door. “Go, and make Landsman Øye a thing of the past. I’ll coordinate with Journeyman Fletcher and have him send Øye out to sea on some mission away from prying eyes.”

NYK manager Liang Wei, in the press conference immediately following the team's 4-2 home win over Abanhfleft

Liang Wei was absolutely in a good mood. It was the six point window the team needed. While Group 10 was still as tight as they come, they had finally been able to get a sliver of separation- and, more importantly, truly take pole position in the group when it came to the group's sole automatic qualification spot. Qualifying for the World Cup was never going to be an easy task, not in this group- but Nyowani Kitara had battled through it. Despite, 45 minutes into the Qualifying campaign, being down 4-0 at home to Saint Eleanor.

A double over The Holy Empire. A crucial four points earned against the Cordian Isles. Earning a draw in the return leg to Saint Eleanor. All of those little moments were adding up to something big, which would be an incredible accomplishment for this NT- their first ever direct qualification to the World Cup Finals. They had only been there once, and indeed, this was just their fourth ever cycle trying to get to the damned thing. It was always going to be a challenge, but they were in a position to take advantage of the slip-ups of others. The Holy Empire's slow start, Cordia's sudden loss of form, etc... And everything was there, in front of them.

The game in Sevendia, even with their rotated squad, was a simple one. No surprise there- Sevendia had only earned 7 points through 16 games, and were probably happy to remain there. A 26th minute finish by Lars Ander had given NYK an early lead, and in the second half, a 57th minute strike by Mhara Vera was followed by a 71st minute header by Josef Sparv, to give NYK all three points quite comfortably. This home game against Abanhfleft would be a trickier prospect, but the Fleftics were greatly underperforming their potential throughout qualifying. It was no surprise their struggles continued as the campaign came to a close, and going up 3-0 by halftime had ensured the game was over before it had begun. The 4-2 final scoreline was probably flattering to the visitors.

The pressure was on. Everyone was thinking about it- and Liang Wei knew that he'd be asked about it.

First reporter stands up. "Liang Wei, we just had a 6 point window. We're 4 points away from avoiding the playoffs for the third straight time, and going straight to the World Cup Finals- regardless of what happens elsewhere. What are your thoughts?"

Obviously, he knew he needed to give a diplomatic answer. "This team has accomplished and proven a lot throughout this campaign. Our skill, our toughness, what this team is made of. But the job is not done until the job is done. We have to take things one game at a time. We have done a lot to put ourselves in a position where we control our own destiny- not just to reach the playoffs, but to get to the Finals altogether. The last steps, of course, are always the hardest- our next two games will be brutal. But we cannot rest on our laurels now, say 'what an accomplishment' it is to be leading the group with two games left. If we come out flat in our next two, nobody will remember that we were up with two games left, right?"

Another reporter stands up and is selected by Liang Wei. "Mr. Liang, what is the importance of qualifying to the World Cup Finals directly?"

"Well, obviously, the playoff path is a good path. We've been there in the last two cycles- once we failed against a much stronger Ethane team, the other we were able to prove ourselves against our overmatched neighbors from Brookstation." He paused, and then continued. "There are many reasons we want to avoid the playoffs if we can. We don't fear anybody, of course- we just completed the double over The Holy Empire. I truly believe that, in a two-game playoff, we can go head to head with any nation in the multiverse. However, the playoffs are a brutal path. I look at the tables right now. I see the last three World Cup winners currently in route for a playoff spot. I see historic powers like Eura. Pasarga- both former champions. Baker Park, who have never missed the Finals. The playoffs, this year, are an absolute landmine. I would much rather avoid them."

The same reporter asked a follow-up. "Liang, I see why you want to avoid the playoffs. But what does winning this qualification group mean for football in this country?"

"It will represent another step forward for Nyowani Kitara." Liang Wei told the press. "Each cycle, we've taken a further step- although each step is harder than the last. 2nd cycle, World Cup 90- stunned the world by eliminating our pot 1 team, Chromatika, on the final day of World Cup Qualifying at their own house, and making the playoffs. World Cup 91- we shocked observers by making the playoffs, but earned enough to be favorites against Brookstation- and proved ourselves worthy of that status on the pitch. World Cup 92- we have fought and clawed our way through the tightest group in all of Qualifying. Everybody seeming alive until the final few days, and we climbed to the top of this. If we can clinch that, well- it will probably be the greatest accomplishment in Kitaran footballing history, so far. It will show that last time was not a flash in the pan. It will show that this NT is truly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the global stage."

He answered more questions on tactics and on player selections, and then ended his press conference. There would be a break until the final day- but rest assured, he would be ready.

"Nothing will come easy- everything must be earned". The Quest for four points and a berth in World Cup 92 comes down to one more weekend

DEWAYO, NYOWANI KITARA- This window, going into it, was predicted to be one of the easier ones for this NT, and that's exactly what happened. A pair of comfortable wins over Sevendia and Abanhfleft, the former away from home, has put this team in a position where we're sitting pretty with two matchdays left. The task, then is straightforward- although it is far from simple. Four points? We're definitely in the Finals. Three points? We're in the Finals as long as we maintain our goal differential advantage over Saint Eleanor- ours is +23, while there's is +15. Of course, if we're level, Saint Eleanor have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Of course, Saint Eleanor's last game is an away game against... The Holy Empire. Speaking of- if we finish with 43, THE or the Cordian Isles could also finish with 43. We currently hold overall goal differential advantages over both nations(sitting at +17 and +12, respectively), and we have the head-to-head tiebreaker over both nations. At 43 as well, we would also be guaranteed, at absolute worst, a playoff spot.

So you know the scenarios. 46 points- we're through directly. 43 points? We're probably through directly, unless things get weird with goal differential. The most likely scenario of us not qualifying directly with 43 points are if THE win their next two games and make up a +7 goal differential advantage that we have over them. Probably not the most likely, but certainly possible. If we get two points or less.... Well, let's try not to think about that, because that would bring a whole host of rough scenarios, the best of which is likely a playoff berth, and the worst of which would be missing the playoffs altogether and going down to the Cup of Harmony- which would be a stunning fall, since we've been top 3 in this group since we've been no worse than 2nd place since Matchday 7, and in first place since Matchday 16.

So we're not going to consider unmitigated disasters. Positives vibes ONLY, folks! But remember how we said that, while our path was straightforward, it certainly wasn't simple? Looking at the rankings of our opponents, you might be skeptical. But when you actually watch the tape, you'll see that these are two very tough teams to end the cycle with.

Matchday 21: Away to Atheara

They have actually had a very strong World Cup Qualifying campaign- even though they have just been eliminated from mathematically finishing in the top 3. Think of what happened the last time we played them, on Matchday 10. They came to our house and beat us, 2-1. It was certainly an upset, especially the fact that it was on home soil for us, and was an accurate reflection of the game on the pitch.

"That match, our Matchday 10 L to Atheara- it was absolutely a deserved win for the visitors that day." Said our NT captain, the 33 year old left back, Armoni Okombo. "They executed their gameplan and outplayed us, and deserved all three points. There's a lot we have to change if we want to win the reverse leg, their final home game of the campaign, and get at least a point- or possibly all three." They had come from behind in a defeated position, as well, to get the points. So Atheara is clearly capable of making a huge difference, and disrupting our plans. They also certainly don't want to see us celebrating on their pitch.

"There's a lot we need to clean up. Fortunately, it'll be the end of qualifying, rather than the dog days- there will be no shortage of consistency and intensity from this team." Said the manager, Liang Wei. "But we've gotta do certain things better. We've got to be better in the midfield. We've got to be better attacking- this team doesn't win by just scoring a goal. We've got to show that mental toughness, We've got to show a lot if we want to walk into Schengen Stadium and earn a point."

Matchday 22: Home to West Barack and East Obama

The mood on Matchday 22 will be wholly determined by the result of Matchday 21. If we even get a point in Atheara, then the mood will be one of excitement. It will be a party-esque, near carnival atmosphere in Dewayo. You know why? A point will mean that we control our own destiny, and that three points on the day, ignoring what happens elsewhere, will take us directly to the World Cup Finals. And if we somehow reverse the MD10 result entirely and take all three points from Atheara? If we're able to do that... Then, of course, all we'd need is a singular point in this home game to go directly to the World Cup.

There would be relatively few nerves- just excitement. "If we're in a position where, no matter what happens elsewhere, we're controlling our own destiny going into MD22... It's going to be probably the best crowd you've ever seen." Said former captain, and former player-manager, Tage Hermannsson. "Who wouldn't want to be there?" But on the flip side, if come back from Atheara with yet another loss to them... Then it's going to change everything. "The atmosphere, at that point, maybe not toxic.. But entirely different. Instead of excitement, nerves. Instead of joy, fear. Not something we want to see."

The game in WB&EO was basically evenly matched. And, of course, chaotic. Three players got sent off in a crazy, 7 goal shootout. We came out on top, finishing with 10 players as West Barack & East Obama only finished with 9. "When you're only playing with 9 players, even if the other team only has 10... Defending becomes nearly impossible." Said a NYK TV analyst. "We were able to put four past them, of course... But a few came with them only being down to 9. They would've had to cover huge swaths of space. Hard to look at that game and use it as a predictor for this one."

Wouldn't they love to come to Dewayo and spoil the party, get one last positive result before they go to the Cup of Harmony? They are clearly a nation on the rise- Liang Wei said that he could see them playing "in World Cup 93 or 94, if they lift their ban on team sports, of course." They've got some decent players, and can make life hell for anybody. Now, of course, just because we put our goals past them when they were down to 9 players, doesn't mean we can't score. We've scored 54 goals throughout this campaign, 90% of them coming in full strength situations. But, considering how they focus on defense, this game might be not be the wide open contest promised. It might be a tight, physical contest, with just a few moments to score.

Can we win that kind of game? We've won all sorts of contests, but we don't have any 1-0 or 2-1 wins, those tight, physical, low-scoring contests. Can we get through in those games? That might be the difference between going directly to the Finals, or facing the defending world champions in the playoffs.

All faith in this team- can we get it done on the final weekend, and get a spot in the World Cup?

Part X out of ??
The Final Battle, Part I

Tanks were slowly driving forward, trucks carried soldiers surrounding the tanks. They were all slowly moving to their positions in the cover of early morning. The current time was 0400 hours, at least, at the time this happened. The sounds of engines lightly roaring was the only thing that filled the air, as everyone but at the front part of the formation was staying silent. At the front was an Athearan main battle tank, commanded by Daniel Fierrevanturo. Peeking outside the hatch, looking at everything was Daniel's older brother in Christian Fierrevanturo. The Fierrevanturo siblings were to be the ones to open up this entire final battle. First the tanks to flatten out the opposotion defence, then the soldiers to rush into the base. That was the plan that the two brothers had agrees upon many hours ago, before they moved.

The two constantly shared looks at eachother, as if Daniel felt something. He knew that his brother would be using The Blade of Empyrea. While it was reasonable as to why, considering what The Blade of Empyrea can do and the rumors that surround it that involves Fierland Fierrevanturo, the founder of House Fierrevanturo... There was a massive cost at using the blade. One's life force would be consumed to deflect any attack that comes at them. Daniel continued checking the tank and his crew as his brother was looking out with his binoculars once again. They were in a forest, Daniel wasn't even sure why his older brother was using binoculars. It's not like he can see the condition of their equipment. And speaking of equipment.

The artillery pieces had been transported to a different position in advance. For that the two brothers, along with Cecilia, Rozmund, and Canna had agreed to do so. They had already transported the artillery just a few hours earlier, along with some balancer and combater energy mechs. The ranger energy mechs were with the men and tanks, tasked to provide even more firing cover and to help with anti air, since they know that ISLORA will be defending this last base of theirs to the shackle of their necks. Even with almost certain defeat, the AMC knew they would still be giving a fight. Athearans never go out the easy way, they always try to fight until the bitter end even if it would end up causing more problems for them. Just like during the original civil war, where the Loyalist side, those who were still loyal to Nordcalia - Gestova's cause and reason on why they had arrived to Atheria in the first place, fought on until the very last man. That man was alao the one to take Fierland's life had he not used the blade.

After several more hours of driving the soldiers and tanks, along with preparing some more things that the two brothers deemed necessary, they were just outaide the ISLORA main base. Iskandaer was the city where the ISLORA had originally came from, and it was now their final base of operations. They destroy this base, this city that the nation origonally owned, and this civil war would be over. They decided to wait out until the ISLORA's final patrol would enter the city to make them think of the illusion that they would be safe for a while. The two brothers looked at eachother, before looking towards the city. They know how wrong the ISLORA soldiers would be. But there was something missing... An opening. While they knew they are the ones to open the battle, someone was supposed to fire it up and hunt on the city defenses.

Speaking of the city defenses, the AMC had already cut off the underground supply system to the city after several small and miniscule, tactile battles. Which means that the ISLORA had lost the underground battle and now, they were locked in a phantom siege. The time was now 1000 hours, meaning that the softening up should be starting in about a few minutes. Christian and Daniel told their men to all prepare for once the battle opened up, because they knew that it would be a bloodbath. A battle between humans armed with technology, assisted by a supernatural element. It felt like a game in all honesty... Well, to both of them (That game being Honk- No! No need to say the original reference). Christian decided to lift up his hand, pointing all fove of his fingers. Then closing down on them one by one, counting down on when the softening waa about to happen.

Suddenly, jets soared down towards the base at a moments notoce and proceeded to fire two missiles each. Seven jets total to fourteen missiles, and they all targeted the heavy equipment that the ISLORA had, destroying them all. All of the jets proceed to scrabble as they all retreated. The city of Iskandaer was immediately thrown into total panic.ing them all. All of the jets proceed to scrabble as they all retreated. The city of Iskander was immediately thrown into total panic, the enemy disorganized. And then, the artillery fired as well, destroying the city more and levelling many buldings to the ground. The outskirts was now empty and defenseless, but the gate ro enter the old city still remains. Suddenly, two of the tanks had fired towards the closed gate, incinerating it and opening the entrance to the city. The perfect moment to rush in.

"Tanks, charge forward! Sweep the buildings and streets even if it's unnecessary!"

"Soldiers, rush in! Always be on guard!"

The tanks and soldiers immediately entered the city together, while Christian and Daniel entered inside as well using the tank that they were both in. Those orders they had given were told over the communication system that every soldier had for this operation. As everyone was doing their orders, an AMC helicopter was just arriving to the scene and was flying above the city. While the helicopter was still flying, suddenly, swarm rokets had been launched towards it as combat proceeded to ensure on the streets. The helicopter had no flares as it was supposed to be a stealthy transport helicopter, but it seems the helicopter was spotted. Then, the ranger energy mechs fired their own missiles, aimed at the missiles heasing to the helicopter. Someone dropped out of the helicopteand while the missiles from the ranger mechs stopped some of the incoming missiles, the remaining ones had hit the helicopter. Causing it to lose control as proceeds to crash to the ground, leaving no one alive.

As for the one who leapt off the helicopter before the missiles hit, he was falling to the ground. Well, that is until he activated what seems to be boosters implantes in his boots as he landed on the ground safely. He proceeded to take off the helmet's face concealer, revealing it to be Rozmund Fallagher. It seems he had his battle suit be upgraded for the final battle as there were still rhings that needed to be fine tuned from the friendly battle against Cecilia. Looking around at rhe current scene, it seems he had arrived just as the battle had started. While he wanted to see the opener, at the least he was now combat ready. He proceeded to run inside the city, as it seems the AMC had already made some progress while he had to deal with landing safely on the ground. After a while, he was able to catch up to the main force that was pushing inside.

Once he catched up, Christian had ordered Daniel to stop the tank they were in to get out. He would be joining the fighting as well, afterall. The reason the older Fierrevanturo did that was to also greet Rozmund who had just arrived. While the two greeted eachother, Daniel's tank fired at an enemy machine gun nest, right under the entrance of a building. They decided to both continue on foot, supporting and guarding Daniel's tank as they took on any rogue stragglers trying to find the perfect opportunity to strike against them. They continued to do so while they also swept the streets, meeting up with other soldiers that formed into groups and in general, commanding and giving orders to them. They continued to do this until they finally cleared that certain area of any stragglers, or so they had thought. Something had striked them.

A lone straggler hid while Rozmund and Christian were talking. That said straggler went out of cover, along with a few ISLORA energy mechs and fired a rocket launcher they were holding towards the tank. A direct confirmed hit. The tank fired back and had hit one of the mechas, destroying it as the crew of the tank got out just in the nick of time before the tank had exploded. Rozmund decides to charge out of cover from behins the tank and fired two bullets from two of his guns each, as he circled around the mech that slammed the ground trying to catch him. Charginf up his fists with fire energy, he punched the mech's leg, destroying it. And then, Christian charged as well, jumping forward towards the mech nefore slicing the front of it with The Blade of Empyrea. The mech proceeded to fall backwards, showing that it was defeated. Daniel approached the duo, getting out of cover as his crew went off to regroup and celebrated along with the two... Until they received communications.

""Outnumbered by a massive amount of ISLORA soldiers?"

"A large man causing trouble in the advance?"

Rozmund and Christian looked at eachother, before looking at Daniel. Daniel signalled that he would be fine with the three splitting ways, as he also needed to regroup with his tank crew and get them to safety. The younger Fierrevanturo had signalled that he had a blade and a submachine gun at his service, ready and armed up just in case he needs to defend his crew or himself. Rozmund and Christian gave Daniel the nod as the younger Fierrevanturo left the two to make for their own decisions. Then, the two proceeded to look at eachother and discuss what to do. After a bit, they decided that Rozmund will help the outnumbered soldiers and Christian will deal with the supposedly large man. And then, the two parted ways as well.

With Rozmund Fallagher...

Rozmund charged through the empty streets, sometimes through the almost destroyed buildings. The soldiers were outnumbered and he really needed to be quick if he wanted to have a chance at saving his men. Afterall, time is never a luxury you have when it comes to war. Fastening his steps and using the boosters in his boots, he ran as faf as possible to the location. The closee he got to the location where the communication signal was sent, the more gunshots he could hear. After a while, he stopped at the clearing of a destroyed building and he could see what the current situation was. But it wasn't extremelt clear to him, so he activated the scanner that was intergrated in his helmet's mask. Becauae as far as he knows from the researchers and engineers, it had a lot of useful features. Camera zoom being one of them.

Once the mask activated, he used the camera zoom to check up on the battlefield. Rozmund scouted from a distance, there were seven AMC soldiers and they had a balancer class energy mech cornered towards a building which had it's entrance blocked off, meaning they were trapped. Meanwhile, there were a hundred or so ISLORA soldiers along with three ISLORA enery mechs and two anti personnel guns that he could see that was located on the roof of a building nearby the current battle zone. Rozmund knew that immediately charging into the fight would be suicidal, so he had to devise a plan for himself. Aftee thinking for a while on what he can do, he immediately rushed in with his boosters acting as a sort of jump booster.

Meanwhile, the soldiers were firing everything they got at the advancing ISLORA force. The balancer energy mech was able to take down several soldiers and one od the ISLORA energy mechs, befor it was desteoyed by one of the artillery gun... Despite them being anti personnel guns. The AMC soldiers were also running low on ammo, which wasn't good. As all hope was lost, two small explosions happened which bursted into flames and killed off a few ISLORA soldiers. There, Rozmund Fallagher stood, facing a hundred or so soldiers and two energy mechs. The ISLORA soldiers and energy mechs stood stunned, before Rozmund signalled for something. Suddenly, missiles swarmed over the sky towards the artillery pieces and several soldiers. The soldiers laid dead while being burnt on fire, and the artillery was now of no use. Turns out, he called the ranger energy mechs to give cover fire and take out the artillery. The ISLORA soldiers immediately opened fire at Rozmund as the ranger mechs retreated with the trapped men as the mechs had created a hole for them to escape through safely, while Rozmund gave them cover. He then charged at the soldiers while dodging bullets.

He punched away the closest soldier as said soldier collided with another and crashed into a wall. Then, he charged up his fists with Elyzian Energy, fire elemental enery to be exact and ran at another, giving them a knee to the balls and swinging a punch left. He then backfliped from a soldier that tried to catch him by running towards him and landed safely. But he then rolled to the side from gunfire, before getting up and firing his own guns as he killed off several more soldiers. He swept the legs of a soldier that came behind him and shot them in he head, before dodging backwards from a shot and fired back, killing another soldier. He then rolls forward as he charged up another fist of fire and proceeded to dodge more gunshots, before jumping onto a wall then turning back and jumped towards a group of soldiers. He then punched the ground and causes quite the explosion to kill off that group of soldiers.

But then, he was shot by one of the ISLORA soldiers. However, it seemed as if that the shot only really gave a scratch towards his battle suit. He fired a bullet from his gun to the soldier who shot him, killing him immediately. After that whole fiasco, the amount of soldiers certainly has decreased, but the mechs would still be a problem. One mech fired their shot and Rozmund dodged it, but the other mech was ready to fire and did so, hitting Rozmund who had to prepare himself for the impact. He was blown back and slammed into a wall from the explosion, but quickly got up. He was injured, but not fatally. He really needed something to happen if he were to win the fight. And that miracle came, as two fighter jets soared the skies, surprising the ISLORA soldiers as the mechs fired at them, trying to take them down. One of the jets fired it's machine guns, killing more soldiers. The other fired a rocket and killed off several soldiers, but also blocked off the exit that the ISLORA had in case for retreat.

Now, there were only twelve soldiers left, thanks to the air support and the two mechs. He charged up his two fists with fire energy and charged forward, the mechs and soldiers firing at him as the two fighter jets parted ways. He launched a fire punch as it hit two soldiers and burned them, ten remaining. A soldier charged at him, but he ducked from a punch and grabbed his hand before cracking it and throwing them aside as well as shooting him, nine. Rozmund then saw two soldiers running at him, weapons ready. He dodged several bullets as he also evaded the two soldoers attacks, punching one in the stomach and then giving them an uppercut. When the other soldier tried to run, he fired his gun again. Seven left, as he reloaded his guns. He jumped and slided on his back when one of the mechs tried smashing him with it's hands, and rolled to the side before getting up when he landed right at the feet of one of the soldiers. He gave said soldier a kick to the stomach, hard enough to kill him. Six remaining.

But it seems as he didn't have to deal with the remaining six. As suddenly, artillery shells landed around him, causing explosions as he used the Elyzian Energy in his suit to toughen up the shell of it and used hisbhelmet's mask to protect his face. Once the dust settled, only the two ISLORA energy mechs remained. Based on what he knows, either Cecilia who was as far as he remembers, managing the artillery before jooning the fight or Christian who requested it himself had gotten artillery support to help him. He muttered a thanks to the communication system as he took several steps back when the mechs fired at him, doing a backflip in the end. Then, one of the mechs charged at him, as he charged up a fire fist. The mech fired a shot while running towards him, as Rozmund immediately set forward and dodged to the right, confusing the mech. He punched the right leg of the mech and disabled it with the fire fist. He did a back flip and took a good look at the back of the mech as he leaped upwards while charging a second fire fist and dodging a shot from the other energy mech. He then gave a strong punch to the back of the energy mech with the fire fist and flipped backwards from the mech before it had exploded. One mech down, one left to go. The mech was facing his back, and Rozmund sprung to action quickly.

He reloaded his other gun and grabbed them as he faced the mech and fired several bullets, causing the mech to be confused as he charged forward to dodge the energy mech's shot. Rozmund charged up two fire fists and flicked the switch of something that was hooked to his suit. He fired one fire fist before the mech does anything, disabling it's ability to move. But before the mech crouched down to stabilize itself, he slided under it and came out of the other side as he got up as fast as he slided. He fired another fire fist to the back of the energy mech, causing it to collapse forward, but not destroy it. Rozmund then leaps forward and plants whatever had a witch onto the back of the mech, which was a bomb. He then flipped back and landed while crouching as he took a bit to relax his bosy from what happened, before saying one word that triggered the bomb.

"Bang."

And then, the bomb ticked off it's timer and exploded, destroying the energy mech as well. Rozmund immediately stood back up from his victory pose, but then stumbled forward and even fell flat on his face. Likely due to the exhaustion he has from that fight, which wasn't the best thing he could have done. But hey, it worked out in the end. At least to him. He slowly forced himself to get up as he left through the exact same hole that the AMC soldiers escaped through, as it was still intact. Afterall, this battle was only one of the main battles out of three that would decide the tide of this entire conflict. And plus, this final struggle wasn't over just yet. It was actually just beginning to reach it's middle point.

OOC: Part I of the Final Battle is complete! It is likely that Part II of the Final Battle will have Christian Fierrevanturo's fight and Cecilia Scharlund's, or I might have to make it three parts. Not only that, I also do plan to do an epilogue, but all of this might be coming in the Cup of Harmony. So sorry for those who want to see the action be complete by this timeframe. Don't worry, everything will be unvwiled, as this all still happena by the end of World Cup Qualifiers. Stay tuned for more, as this might be one of my best writings on NSS so far.

Also do ignore typos, as of finishing this, it's 11:54PM in Indonesia.

"So basically, I can't remember" said Jeremy, swirling his whisky around his glass, watching the ice cubes clatter into one another and the umbrella bob up and down. "I have no idea why. Coma. Comas do that"
"You know nothing about comas, Jeremy" said Rubio, himself holding his glass of red wine by the base of the cup part like he was about to praise its blondie undertones or whatever other new wave bands you use to describe wine. "But I'll grant you, if you hit your head, you're unlikely to remember the thing that made you hit your head"
"So the episode is going to be broadcast next week?" said Jeremy
"Streamed. Uploaded. Whatever it is they do with YouShoot" said Rubio. "Like YouTube. Speaking of which..."
"Nothing" said Jeremy, "at least I don't think so. I wouldn't rely on my memory right now. Or at the best of times."
"Or any time" said Rubio
"Or any time" said Jeremy, who put his glass down and leaned back in his chair and sighed.
"Egon fuckin' Must" he said. "What on earth could the host have said about Egon fuckin' Must that made me lose my shit."
"And made Egon pay for that tent" said Rubio
"Exactly" said Jeremy. "So... let me get this straight. I fall unsconscious. The entire nation queues to watch me lying there, assuming I'm merely the drunkest I've ever been - which would take some doing by the way - and when the government steps in and says 'lol guys shall we actually take him to hospital' Egon Must says he has a plan which he can make cheaper for the government. And it's a tent. With one nurse and sometimes on doctor."
"That's about it"
"This guy" said Jeremy, picking up his drink, downing it, yelping, and pulling the cocktail umbrella out of his eye. "This guy is doing down. D. O. U. N. down"
"Double you" said Rubio.
"Sure, I'd love one" said Jeremy, putting his glass in front of Rubio and giving him the biggest shit-eating grin he could.
"Yeeah" said Rubio, picking up Jeremy's glass. "You're back to your old self all right".
