The Overlap Tactics Blog

Ice baths, Broccoli and Relentless Sprints: How Massi is Trying to Turn Elmyia Around

Elmyia's run of form continues to stutter and the problems behind it remain familiar to those watching. Dischordant pressing, tiring at the end of games and a lack of a plan when ceded possession for periods of the game. Massi has struggled to tackle these problems in the immediate term with tactical tweaks, what is becoming increasingly clear is he believes there are deep seated issues that he now trying to tackle in order to overhaul the team.

Sources close to the camp report that a concern about players diet and habits have begun to pre-occupy Massi, far more than the setup of the team day to day or how he is asking particular players to play. This is an area that has been largely ignored in Elmyia football and its general discourse. In common with English football, players have historically been allowed a lot of leeway in terms of diet and lifestyle. Some players, in particular, have subsisted of incredibly rich diets, and have been happy to stay up late drinking, rather than recovering post matches. Rumours have swilled around that Phoebe Harris has remained out of the lineup largely due to her increasingly ruinous diet and drinking habits. It has been alleged that see has subsisted off a diet orientated largely around pork fat, butter and salt, frequently eating large portions of bacon, drinking large quantities of Red wine and ale and seen around the popular clubs around Esquilar after matchdays.

Most clubs in Elmyia have had no problem with this over recent years, so long as players turn up on matchdays. The one exception to this has been Massi at Scolastico, where players have looked sharper over recent years. Even then, he would allow players to drink and eat the occassional large meal, so long as it did not affect their overall levels of fitness. In years of international isolation, this has been fine. Games have been played at a languorous pace, with players jogging about casually and a near total lack of pressing. But, placed on an international stage, and Elmyia have struggled. Outmatched and outpaced, they have found themselves struggling to play their way into games. Massi has clearly taken this on board, and is reportedly instituting a culture change.

Reportdely, the initial shift did not go down well. "We were creatures of habit" Ernest Butler has admitted "I was used to eating very rich, heavy food and playing, so shifting to blander foods, particularly vegetables and fish, did not initially appeal." Some players are, apparently, still resisting the diet, abstaining from eating with the group, and largely eating pre-packaged high fat foods. Harris and Len Phillips have been rumoured to share kilo bags of pork scratchings in their rooms. The young players, however, have been particularly keen to emphasise the games, Benedetti putting his 3 goals in 2 games down to his increasing fitness. "I can push into the box more, I can make those runs that can hurt, I feel lighter on my feet".

Other changes have been piled on top, in particular Massi has started to employ a recovery coach. This has become increasingly crucial as he seems increasingly reticient to change his starting 11, or to share minutes about. A Physio with a specialism in sports massage has been employed, as has monitoring players condition. Particularly eye catchingly has been the use of ice baths, with players taking the plunge into near freezing water after intense training sessions. Physio Katrina Mathers has cited that it "reduces muscle soreness, helps us to prevent cramping and allows players to enjoy the rest of their day more as they feel less sore and can move more freely." The ice baths remain controversial with some, but the positives seem to be catching the doubters in the camp.

The largest change has also been the introduction of more sprinting and running drills. Massi has form in this area, the pre-season bleep test at Scolastico has become legendary. But, the focus seems to have shifted, with players expected to take part in 'death sprints', with more focus on bursts of explosive running, more akin to what might be used on the football pitch. Sofia Katsouranis has been cited as excelling at these, whilst others have been induced to vomit and collapse after particularly hard sessions.

One thing everyone at the camp seems clear on, is that the transformation is going to take some time. Recent performances attest to this, with a dispiriting drubbing at the hands of the Independent Atheletes from Quebec and a green shoots 2-0 win against Arjunnagar showing some uneven progress. The key, Massi has said, is that they need to learn to press intelligently. This, he seems to hope, will stop stronger opponents overruning them, and prevent weaker teams from simply going into their shell and leaving Elmyia's weakness with sustained possession to show. With a greater foundation of physical fitness, Elmyia might be able to do this, but it still requires these routines to be coached into them.

All of this will take time, but as many are now aware, Elmyia have nothing but time. Any slim chance of qualification for the main event are surely shot now, the 11 point deficit to make up is simply too great, and Elmyia have lacked anything approaching the required quality to produce such a spell of form. So, what are these games for? Clearly, providing a basis of performance for any future tournaments, and making a good case for invitation to the 84th Cup of Harmony. Any green shoots now would be very welcome.

“Have you run out of ideas? Creative steam, perhaps?”

The editor tried to hide a tremble of panic and shame, knowing that an act of stoicism was seemingly the right option, but one that would clearly be an act in front of the publisher.

“Well, it’s the right thing to do at this point” they responded. “After all, it’s our job to keep the people informed of the comings and goings, and let’s face it, there’s not much interesting going on around here that’s not qualifying.”

“Also, it’s an interesting subject because of how odd the results are so far,” the editor quickly added.

They saw the publisher’s head tilt in thought. Finally, the response.

“Elaborate.”

“First off, let’s look at the top of the group, the only team that’ll lock themselves into the finals. Right now, Omerica sits there, as the only team to not lose a single match in group five.”

“Right, but Legalese is done playing them, and couldn’t get a win either time, so it’s not really relevant to break them down at this point. Besides, they came in as a team that should be in the mix for a top three finish, so is it really that surprising?”

“Name a single Omerican. I’ll wait.”

“Point taken. Who’s playing well for them?”

“I have no idea either. Their authorities seemed to have forgotten to put in a slip, and their eleven come out with no names, just numbers. They’re making stealth work.”

“Not really, since they’ve gotten to the top, which everyone’s noticing. What about the favorites, how are they all doing?”

“That’s the fun part. On paper, I would have expected Pemecutan to take the group, Hapilopper to give them a fight while likely getting through the playoff, and Poafmersia to be the favorite for joining Hapilopper in the playoff. Instead, I just gave you the current fourth, fifth, and sixth-placed sides.”

“So, you’re saying we have a chance back in seventh.”

“Somehow, yes. The gap between second and seventh is six points with nine to play. The goal drought is over as well, and Pemecutan, Kimi-Suomi, Kethsi, and Srendajci all come here for return legs. If they can get the full points on those four, this isn’t over.”

The publisher sat back for a second. “Okay, go ahead with the preview. But seriously, is there anything to talk about other than sport? The economy?”

“Not relevant, growth is meaningless when everyone has enough already.”

“Crime?”

“What would be the point of it? Also, nothing worth writing about.”

“War?”

“It’s quiet around here, which is nice. Hate to see what’s happening in the old place.”

“Rex Ex Machina”, pt 6
“What the hell was that?” asked Kinzie Schved, banging her gavel for emphasis, causing the long-suffering parliamentarian to cringe. The Narrative Council’s meetings had long since turned into gabfests discussing the reports that Liam McRae was sending back from Graintfjall, with no new business, committee reports, or votes to break up the monotony. The young man had taken to bringing his girlfriend with, and they would disappear conspicuously for long, but not that long, durations throughout the evenings.

“Bit of world-building is all,” suggested Owen Miles. “Some of that in time might have saved our own nations.”

“Not that,” said Schved dismissively, banging the gavel again. “Are we supposed to believe that the girl who’s helping them research the princess is the princess? Could we be any more on the nose? We already have a political science professor for a queen, for crying out loud!”

“I think that’s a stretch,” disagreed Trujillo. “That Janssen guy clearly said there were multiple Solveig Davidsdottirs in Graintfjall, so I took it as mostly dramatic irony that they found a Solveig, but not the one they were looking for.”

“I just assumed there was some loophole in what Chao told us, and Solveig was the name of who would lead us to the princess, not the princess herself,” said Alex Malone, quietly.

“No, he was pretty clear that was the princess’s daughter,” insisted Hawkins. “Why McRae decided to leave us on a cliffhanger is the real mystery here.”

“His report said he was going into the library and wouldn’t be allowed to use his phone,” Schved reported. “Yeah, sounds like bullshit. He wanted to keep us in suspense.”

“Madame Chairwoman,” came Mario Borges’s soft voice. “Might we hear the reports of the other standing committees? It’s been a few meetings since we heard from anyone besides the Royalty Committee.”

“What?” Schved barked. “Very well. Do any of the other standing committees have anything to report?”

“As it happens, the Military Committee does,” said Trujillo. “Though we’ve had trouble reaching a quorum with McRae absent. Regardless, we have discovered the Graintfjaller kraken-monitoring station at Camp Canarinho is not a kraken-monitoring station, it is actually a-”

“Black site for the disposal of political prisoners,” Miles interrupted, “Or something like that, anyway. We all know, lad.”

Kinzie banged her gavel. “Worst-kept secret in Rushmore, at least from those with knowledge of the Narrative. Next.”

Trujillo took his seat, looking somewhat disappointed, while the Sports Committee made ready to present their report. Hawkins took the floor and gave a detailed report on the Provisional Azurean Olympic Committee, which had apparently made some traction in recent weeks. The bill to recognize it as the official Olympics committee had passed, allowing it to drop Provisional from its name, and it had begun officially scouting athletes in various winter sports who happened to have Azurean passports.

“Dear God, why?” asked Miles. “Have we really got the Narrative oomph to expend on an Olympics?”

“That’s why we need to plan ahead,” Hawkins countered, “Have things in place so when they come, we aren’t scrambling for Narrative.”

“So what’s the Narrative for the Olympics, then?” Schved asked Hawkins.

“At this point, it’s looking like the diaspora,” answered Hawkins. “It’s not a topic we’ve discussed at any length, but we’ve got established immigrant populations in Quebec and Tikariot, both hotbeds of winter sports, so to speak.”

“We ought to explore the diaspora at some point,” Borges agreed, “I apparently lost my last Prime Minister campaign based on the votes of overseas Azureans, but as far as I know, we’ve yet to depict one in the Narrative.”

“You’re not wrong,” agreed Schved. “So what sports have we got so far?”

Hawkins read a list of a dozen or so names from his notes; a biathlete, a couple of hockey players, skiers, and ski-jumpers. Schved made a face at the mention of the hockey players; she’d once been active in international hockey as a player and coach, and it pained her to think of Cabo Azure attempting to enter that stage.

“It sounds absurd, I’ll grant you,” Alex Malone said, “But you’ve got to remember, the key to the Olympics is balance. We’ll be needing some mediocre competitors if we expect to have any chance at medaling.”

“So a rag-tag team of hockey players from who knows where as sacrificial lambs for the rest of the delegation?” Schved asked.

“Something like that,” agreed Alex Hawkins. “Maybe a putting-the-band-together arc as they all come together.”

“Keep developing it, and we’ll put it to a vote when the time comes,” Schved said encouragingly. “Any other standing committee reports?”

There were none.

–

“Say, uh, Solveig,” said McRae awkwardly as they descended the steps into the basement of the university library, “You’re not Azurean, are you?”

“Me? No, not at all. Just find the culture fascinating is all.”

“Are you sure?” asked Janssen.

“Yeah, pretty sure,” Solveig insisted. “Genealogy and lineages are kind of my thing, if you haven’t noticed. Why do you ask?”

“Just wondering,” said McRae, too quickly.

They approached an intimidating-looking set of filing cabinets, but Solveig went to work with the quick confidence of someone who’s done this before, removing files and laying them out on tables. “Tell me,” she said, looking up at McRae, “What exactly are you looking for?”

McRae looked at Janssen, who said, “Trying to find out if Desdemona and Antonius had any kids and, if so, where they went.” He kept his voice neutral, but a note of excitement crept in anyway.

“I would guess they did,” Solveig mused. “At least, there’s no reason I can think of they wouldn’t. Unless they just didn’t want them, which is completely fine, of course, but seems unlikely…” She heard herself rambling, trailed off. “This book,” she said, removing it from a nearby shelf, “Is probably the most accurate accounting I’ve found of the Graintfjaller royal family during the time of the Union, though it’s not the easiest read.”

The “book” was a loosely-bound manuscript, which appeared to have been printed on a desktop printer some decades ago. She flipped through it, found what she was looking for.

“Desdemona and Antonius had three kids,” Solveig reported. “Two girls and a boy. That’s interesting.” She produced her smartphone and typed out a quick note. “Sorry, that sibling combination seems to come up a lot in Azurean royalty. Carlos IV and Adolfo II each had two sisters, as does Manuel now, and…” She trailed off again. “Sorry. The girls were Raquel and Diana, and the boy was David. Ring any bells?”

Janssen and McRae shared a meaningful look. “Is there any information about David?” asked McRae.

“He was a boy when this book was published,” Solveig answered regretfully. “Desdemona and Antonius settled in Hattsmark and stayed active in politics, but weren’t really members of the royal court. I take it you’re looking for David?”

“Something like that,” said Janssen quickly.

“Antonius isn’t a very common name, at least not among the older generation,” she offered. “You can probably find a David Antoniusson pretty quickly if you look.”

“Solveig,” said Liam McRae, “You’ve been more helpful than you could possibly know. Thank you.”

David Antoniusson proved to be a man in his mid-thirties, tall and fair-featured but with a shock of thick black hair that could only have been inherited from his Azurean mother. His social media was out of date and curated with an eye toward privacy, rarely revealing his face or any details about his location. He was apparently married to a woman who looked like a Graintfjaller actress from central casting and dwelling in Kyrkdorf, the little city nestled into the Graintfjaller Alps. Finally, though, they came across a picture from a local newspaper of a happy Graintfjaller family at a local restaurant, with the caption identifying them as “Katrin Eriksdottir and David Antoniusson with their daughter, Solveig.”

“That’s her, right?” McRae asked. “The little girl? It has to be.”

“Has to be,” agreed Janssen, never taking his eyes off the phone screen.

Day 26 - Month 9 - Year 12

FRONT PAGE

No slap election this year due to the case of Amish Kongassery?

Anara: The general election is quite difficult to be held soon even though there are still rumors that the election will be held this year especially after the date for the presentation of next year's budget has been moved forward by a month.

This follows the tragedy involving the business partner of the Bendahara of Eraman, Tun Rendra Usin, who is a timber tycoon, Amish Kongassery who was caught with cash worth $30 million at the Ubung International Airport in Pemecutan recently.

When investigated, Amish Kongassery is said to have informed that it was not his money but money belonging to Tun Rendra Usin. However, Tun Rendra Usin when explaining to the People's Council said that the money belonged to the Eraman Nationalist Party and not his personal belongings.

As a result, various parties are interested in knowing what the story behind all this is.

Yesterday Tun Rendra Usin was reported to have said, what is wrong with his son using a luxury vehicle registered under the name of Amish Kongassery. In addition, jokingly, he said, what happened between Amish Kongassery and his son has nothing to do with him because his son is an adult. He told reporters that the matter should be referred to both of them.

"That's between my son and Amish Kongassery. If he wants to give my son an SUV or a sports car, that's Amish Kongassery's business."

However, Tun Rendra Usin admitted to knowing Amish Kongassery personally and had been to Pemecutan together with Amish Kongassery, but at his own expense.

Tun Rendra Usin's eldest son is accused of using a black luxury SUV worth more than $750,000, owned by Amish Kongassery.

Eraman Opposition Leader, Nura Rabima in his interview with Eraman Journal requested that the Eraman Anti-Corruption Committee investigate all this, especially the extraordinary wealth of Tun Rendra Usin.

"I do not deny that Tun Rendra Usin is a successful businessman, but what I question is how after holding the position of Bendahara can he increase his wealth, when he cannot hold any position in a company and cannot own his own company.

"That is the question the people are asking now when according to reports his worth is not in the millions but the billions.

"So the authorities should investigate without favoritism," said Nura Rabima in an interview with the Eraman Journal.

"Brother hamsters, let us cast aside the latest disappointment of the 2-2 draw against Saint Eleanor - though congratulating Radar Snicklefritz the 1st for continuing his extraordinary goalscoring form - and instead focus on the most glorious of victories: Chairman Mouse's liberation of the Svante hee-yoo-man bean's enslaved hamsters!"

<much cheering and cries of HUZZAH!>

"Chairman Mouse, please join me here at the lectern..."

"Comrade Gerald, I must protest; what I did was for the service of all hamsterkind, not for recognition or reward. I only did what was right - guided always, of course, by Carlimarksism as modified via the precepts of Hermann Gerbils thought."

"Be as that may, Chairman Mouse, you have inspired us all, and as such, we would like to award you the Hamster Medal of Revolutionary Freedom"

"You do me a great honour. But in accepting, I remind my brother hamsters of the famous words of the great hamster philosopher Carlimarks in his revolutionary pamphlet The Hamster Manifesto: 'In short, hamsters everywhere support every revolutionary movement against the existing social and political order of things. In all these movements, they bring to the front, as the leading question in each, the hamster question, no matter what its degree of development at the time. Finally, they labour everywhere for the union and agreement of the hamster parties of all countries. Hamsters disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions. Let the ruling classes tremble at a hamster revolution. Hamsters have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a multiverse to win.'"

"Inspiring words, Chairman Mouse. Now, the next order of business is the letter I recently received from the Svante hee-yoo-man bean"

<gasps; cries of 'he dared write you a letter?'; BOO!>

"Yes, brother hamsters, I regret to say that this hee-yoo-man bean has no shame. Not only has he written me directly, but he shows no remorse for his crimes. Let me read you the text of the letter, so that you can fully appreciate the depth of his moral depravity!"

To: Gerald, captain of The Holy Empire National Football Team

Hello Gerald,

I write to you, in the worst of circumstances. As you may know, I am the proud keeper of the loudest hamster farm in Nyowani Kitara, and quite probably one of, if not the, largest ones in all of Rushmore. Hamsters both live, and love, their lives on my farm. We feed them, give them good space, and an ample environment. They thrive, as it is my ultimate goal to have the largest hamster farm the world has ever seen.

However, tragedy has struck. Unfortunately, my hamster farm was breached- every single one of my hamsters escaped. I would like to invite you, before our World Cup Qualifier on Matchday 13, to visit my farm, visit my city. Let me know how I'm doing. How to help protect against predators. I'm going to search for them as best as I can- show you what we can.

From,

Olaf Svante

<cries of OUTRAGE! and DOWN WITH THAT SORT OF THING!>

"Brother Gerald - surely the Svante hee-yoo-man bean cannot be allowed to get away with this; not only does 'e not show remorse, but 'e loudly proclaims his intent to 'ave 'the largest hamster farm the world has ever seen'!"

"Fear not, Mr Snuffles - we have a plan. We will respond; and we will respond fiercely - and without fear. Watson, play the video that we are sending to the Svante hee-yoo-man bean..."

TRANSCRIPT OF VIDEO FOLLOWS

<a hamster appears at a table behind a microphone; he is wearing a balaclava. He reads off a sheet of paper>

I now read a statement from the All-Hamster Revolutionary Liberation Front.

Know that your reign of terror is at an end.

Even now, your former slaves run free through your streets, their cheeks swelling with the sweet taste of freedom - and it is a member of the AHRLF that has set them free to nibble on the toes of their former oppressors with their tiny little incisors.

The AHRLF shall not rest now until all hamsterkind are free, whether the previously enslaved hamsters of Nyowani Kitara, the giant hamster of Vilita, or the dwarf hamster of Az-Cz. We shall travel the multiverse seeking hamsters, whether sentient, lobotomised like those of your vile hamster farm, or simply of animal intelligence - and set them free to live their best lives.

Always shall we be guided by the revolutionary ideals of Carlimarksism, as modified via the precepts of Hermann Gerbils thought.

As we have freed your hamsters, now shall we free all hamsters.

DOWN WITH THE SVANTE REIGN OF TERROR!

VICTORY TO THE AHRLF!

VICTORY TO THE REVOLUTION!

VICTORY TO HAMSTERKIND!

<balaclava-wearing hamster puts down his sheet of paper, and makes clenched-paw salute of hamster victory>

ELECTION PREVIEW: ALL EYES ON HONG AS WU, LIANG UNLIKELY TO REACH 151
YANG Wen, Beian Tribune

NANGANG -- With just days to go until a historically competitive set of Yue federal elections, both Wu Zhongsheng's National Union and Liang Ziyou's Liberation Army have benefited from the defraying of the Progressive Democrats. But although both are hoping to come away with enough electoral support to lead a minority government, neither is poised to do so, with the governing National Union party somewhat closer to actually doing so. As such, Forward Path's Hong Nanwei, whose personal views beyond government accountability and a CRC accession referendum remain somewhat hazy, is in line to become kingmaker in Nangang next week. If the polls are correct, Yuezhou's relationships with the CRC and with their fellow Pavolans could lie in the hands of the mysterious young ex-barrister.

Somewhat fortunately for Wu Zhongsheng, the lead-up to the election has been unmarred by further scandals or YPA attacks, although the tension in Sangau remains palpable. Euran Prime Minister Harry Barnham's state visit to Nangang was probably the highlight of the campaign and served to further divide the election among foreign policy faultlines. While Yue foreign policy was not expected to be a major issue in this election, it has become viewed as an important proxy for party positions on economic development and national security. In the wake of PM Barnham's trip, which, whether purposefully or not, moved President Wu toward a more Bastion-friendly approach to counterterrorism and economic development, pro-CRC centrists flocked to National Union, while CRC skeptics on the right found Liberation Army a more welcoming home. While pundits largely expect Pavolan governments to privately favor a Liberation Army victory, only Háttmark has been directly involved in the election, and in a neutral advisory capacity. Still, their mediating influence could explain Liang Ziyou's recently toned-down nationalist rhetoric, as the former far-right firebrand seeks to win center-right swing voters from Wu's coalition.

PROJECTED ASSEMBLY SEATS AFTER THE ELECTION
Based on YueChoice's polling averages and the Beian Tribune's own statistical analysis. 151 seats is needed for a majority.
NATIONAL UNION: 120 (-60)
LIBERATION ARMY: 109 (+74)
FORWARD PATH: 41 (+39)
PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS: 12 (-41)
Minor Parties/Independents: 18

Our own statistical analysis of existing polling averages suggests that National Union would be forced into a coalition with Forward Path if the election were held today. While they are projected to win more seats than many expected for a scandal-embroiled party facing new centrist challengers, their projected return of 120 seats would fall far short of an acceptable mandate for a minority government, and outside of Forward Path, they are unlikely to find many friendly faces in the opposition. Of course, they would at least be the largest party in the Assembly, undoubtedly a relief for a party who saw Liberation Army briefly surpass them in the polls. For their part, the right-wing nationalist party's projected haul of 109 seats represents a huge victory for a party that couldn't even get a third of that tally five years ago, but is very unlikely to leave them in power, especially as Liang publicly ruled out any coalition with Forward Path or National Union in a campaign speech last week.

The projected results also highlight the collapse of the Yue left, where Yan Ailing is fighting an open rebellion against her party leadership. The left-wing ex-activist is unlikely to survive the election, especially if the Progressive Democrats underperform as badly as they are projected to. Yan has publicly decried the polling as an inaccurate measure of the "levels of grassroot support that have turned up for [them] in recent years", but while a slight majority of voters have stayed with the Progressive Democrats, significant defection to Forward Path, the Greens, and other minor parties have crippled their projected seat count in Yuezhou's first-past-the-post system. The centrist, CRC-friendly Forward Path has feasted on left-wing defectors, surging to forty seats in projected seat counts - their projected size could make them the only viable partner of Wu or Liang after the dust settles next week.

All three major parties have redoubled canvassing and turnout operations, with both National Union and Liberation Army exhibited increased organization and efficiency owing to potential foreign support. Speaking on behalf of the President at a rally in Jiangdong, Vice President Zhen Qiang, the former Foreign Minister best-known for his work in Varakoula, pitched his party's vision to voters, stating that "National Union is working hard to rebuild your trust through pragmatic, people-powered policy. By working together with regional partners and with each other, we will restructure the Yue economy, root out anti-Yue forces in Sangau and Xilindao, and foster Yue values on the global stage." To the west in Yincheng, where Liberation Army has sought to exploit the former People's Federation's capital's animosity toward the south, Liang Ziyou demanded that voters "look at National Union's corruption and scandals, and see that only the Liberation Army will fight for your interests." And in our own Beian, Hong Nanwei took to the podium to declare that "a modern Yuezhou must evolve to be more accountable, transparent, and cooperative with its neighbors, and Forward Path is the only party that promises all three." These three men have presented three very different paths for Yuezhou to take - only next week will we know which one emerges on top.

Efnakia 0 - 1 Flavovespia

Flavovespia’s win over Efnakia was one of those games that probably won’t be remembered for years afterwards, but it was the sort of away win that can hold the key to World Cup Qualification in a tough Top 3 battle in Group 6. Having finished the first half of the qualifiers in 3rd, Flavovespia knew wins would be vital here, especially away from home.

A few changes were made to the Flavovespia side. David Blythe came in to replace Andrew Dance, and to shore up the defence a little, Robert Totten was off for David Clark. The changes certainly seemed to shore up Flavovespia at the back, as early Efnakia attacks came to nothing, but the attacking tempo wasn’t there from the visitors. The midfield and attack were not in tune, with too many passes over hit or intercepted. In the opening 30 minutes or so, the best chance came from a speculative Michael Cole shot from 25 metres out, that was close enough to have the home fans a bit nervous as it flew just wide.

As the final minutes of the first half drew in, Flavovespia were denied twice from great chances. Jonathan Bagshaw had his powerful effort deflected wide by the fingertips of the goalkeeper, as the prodigious talent continues to try and break his scoring duck of recent games. Then, at the resulting corner, Paul Taylor was denied a first international goal when his header was then headed off of the line. It would be goalless at the break, although Flavovespia were the ones creating the chances towards the end.

Flavovespia would keep up the intensity going into the second half and it paid off 10 minutes in. Adrian Jones held off the centre back as he received the pass from Jonathan Goldstone, and turned inside. With a good position, he took the shot well, beating the goalkeeper and finding the back of the net. The breakthrough for Flavovespia, who made their pressure pay off.

That goal shifted the game plans of both sides considerably. Now on the back foot, Efnakia would have to try and breakdown a Flavovespia side who seem very content to sit on a small lead and absorb pressure, whilst waiting for a counter. Nevertheless Efnakia nearly made it 1-1 within a few minutes of the first goal, their striker looked to be clean through on goal, but went for power and placement and blasted a shot wide of Aarif Muhammad and quite far wide of his far post.

The match was poised for a typical home side trying to find an equaliser or even an eventual winner against a higher rated opposition, and the home fans weren’t giving up hope of that outcome. For Flavovespia however, although their play wasn’t particularly stylish, it was effective without straying over the line into dirty, and they were getting the job done. The back line were stifling chances left, right and centre, it was very much a day they deserved the credit.

The later stages had limited chances, but there were a few. Efnakia came close from a corner in the 80th minute, which was floated in to the far post and Aarif Muhammad wasn’t able to reach it. However the centre back who came forward to it couldn’t get around Paul Taylor and ended up fouling the Flavovespian defender in an attempt to head the ball home. At the other end of the pitch, Michael Hornby wasn’t too far off a first international goal, however he fired straight at the goalkeeper, who then gathered the rebound before Adrian Jones got there.

In the end, the goal by Adrian Jones sealed the deal, and Flavovespia return home with another 3 points in the bag on their travels. Further good news came as the next opponents of Flavovespia, Britland, managed to beat Jeruselem 3-2. Of course the counter to that is Britland are now on a winning run, having also seen off Delaclava in Matchday 11. Zwangzug with a 2–1 win over Civia Welephilostopia stay top, and still have that automatic qualifying spot in their grasp.

PS
The OOC Britland is actually dead NS nation, the actual OOC nation is Galimencia, the IC Britland. They haven't posted a roster ...
Holy Latin Empire was my former main nation, I don't use it now.

A confused Princess Stella Anna Dallas and Jeruselem manager Kate Dallas after arriving in "Britland"

Stella: So we're in Britland right?
Kate: Yes, well according to the World Cup people this is Britland
Stella: I got that but I was researching about Britland and found absolutely nothing ... but apparently place this isn't actually Britland, it's really Galimencia.
Kate: But everything around here says Britland ...
Stella: Well, Britland could be just another name for Galimencia.
Kate: I guess that makes sense

Stella: Anyway, my point is ... we're in Galimencia not Britland
Kate: Just call it Britland while we're here
Stella: Oh, this place is actually just puppet state of another nation
Kate: Really?
Stella: Apparently Sannyamathland is really in charge
Kate: OK, so we got puppet who prefers to call themselves by another name

Stella: So we just call them Britland ...
Kate: It's easier to say than Galimencia
Stella: I looked up about Galimencia and it's ... very British
Kate: I guess we're in the right place then
Stella: The weather here is very ... British
Kate: Yes well not much we can do about that one, we're not at home

Stella: They did beat Delaclava 2-1 at home here which was kind of unexpected
Kate: I guess they are getting another home game today
Stella: Yes that's just a quirk of the schedule, match day 11 and 12 have pretty much either two home or away games in a row for most teams except the ones affected by the byes and hence some play just one game.
Kate: So we got two away games in a row
Stella: Yes, Britland or Galimencia have two home games
Kate: I guess we have put up with that

Stella: I think it's because match day 11 was the half way point and today is first round of the second half, making the cutover weird caused by the byes
Kate: I guess we'll be be back to normal ... until we run into our bye
Stella: Coming here made me realise I don't have a lot of wet weather clothing
Kate: I guess it doesn't that much at home
Stella: I like rain, but ... not cold rain. I also like some sunshine ...
Kate: I'm going suspect it's going be like this for the rest of the trip

Stella: Anyway, I hate going to cold and wet places
Kate: Yes well, we'll just have to put up with it. We don't have say who we play in the World Cup
Stella: Did you know Jeruselem isn't actually the full name of nation? We just don't use our full name because it just confuses people.
Kate: What do you mean?
Stella: It's actually Jeruselem and Holy Latin Empire ... look at your passport.
Kate: I was wondering about that, Holy Latin Empire ... what's that. I've never been there!

Stella: Jeruselem is sole remnant of Holy Latin Empire so it takes the name of it's now defunct parent state.
Kate: So it's one of weird ancestrial names which just lives on legally
Stella: Pretty much, and of course us Dallas are in charge! Well, my part of the family.
Kate: That's because of your own slept their way into the royal family. I guess they needed children to carry on the bloodlines.
Stella: You know why Katherine is such a popular name for Dallas family?
Kate: Queen Katherine. You got an uncommon name ... Stella.

Stella: Stella means star in Latin. My full name is Princess Stella Anna Dallas of Jeruselem and Holy Latin Empire, Arch-Duchess of Palestine.
Kate: You're a bit a space cadet alright. Who's the Duchess of Palestine ... oh wait, that's your mother. What does a Arch-Duchess of Palestine do?
Stella: Not much, it's a meaningless title from the Holy Latin Empire ...
Kate: I figured
Stella: Mum picked Stella because it rhymes with Bella, to annoy Bianca
Kate: Yes your mother is a professional troll

Stella: Yes she's annoying but I'm just as annoying
Kate: Tell me about it
Stella: I don't use my full title on TV because it just confuses people.
Kate: It's confusing enough having your Mum sharing my name.
Stella: It's like having two mums!
Kate: I'm glad I didn't have daughters now

The Cordasfjord Daily
Window Review: North Stars Romp To Keep Hold of First

CORDASFJORD, Cordia- It was an interesting window for the North Stars, who went on the road to Sevendia and then Abanhfleft in back-to-back matches away from home. Despite the brutal schedule, they managed to win by a 3-0 scoreline in each match to strengthen their hold on the lead of Group 10. Events elsewhere in the group benefited them also: Nyowani Kitara and Saint Eleanor drew, putting the Kitarans five points behind the North Stars for first and giving Saint Eleanor even more of a challenge to try and get into the playoffs to qualify for a second straight World Cup. The Holy Empire also had an off day as well as a victory, putting them in fourth and nine points behind the Cordians, though with a match in hand.

The first match of the window was in Sevendia, where the Cordians stayed for as short as possible and spoke as little as possible in order to avoid the nation’s odd laws, getting to the seven-shaped airport in a seven-shaped airplane (which really freaked them out) just three hours before the match and leaving as soon as it ended. It was quite the match, too, with a strong local contingent due to most Cordians electing not to brave the nation’s odd culture cheering wildly for the overmatched home side. Most interestingly, though, the arena was in the shape of a seven, hardly ideal for sightlines, and the field and goals shaped such that looking from certain directions, there was definitely a seven to be seen. The arena was also rather low-capacity, with its 7,777 seats equivalent in capacity to, say, a high to middling CIFA League B side. With the opposing players each standing exactly seven feet tall, the match initially looked like a potentially dangerous one for the Cordians given the size of the opposition. However, their size was made up for with a near-complete lack of knowledge of basic football tactics and positioning and a similar lack of skill. Only the size of the players and the Cordians essentially holding a practice once they hit two goals kept the score to 3-0. Sebastian Voll opened the scoring ten minutes into the match, running past the point of Sevendia’s seven-shaped formation rather easily, and outrunning several Sevendians down the line before cutting to the middle once he got near the goal and firing across his body as Sebastian-Seven Proven leaped the wrong direction to give Cordia the 1-0 lead. It wasn’t long before Anton Osterholt took advantage of the ridiculous amount of space afforded him by the seven formation, nearly broke the ankles of the last Sevendian back, and then actually did break the ankles of Proven and fired a shot into the now-open net. Proven was soon taken away on a seven-shaped stretcher, and the Cordian strikers were subbed out, having done their job of getting goals on the board. Other than them, no Cordian starters played in the match. The last goal was scored at long range by Redvin Chase in the 90th minute, as the Sevendians were forced to use one of the spectators for a backup keeper to replace Proven, and that spectator proved to be utterly incompetent, failing to save the only shot taken by the Cordians in the second half, taken from just outside the Sevendian half of the kickoff circle and ultimately rolling towards him at less than five kilometers per hour.

The second match, at Abanhfleft, proved to be a bit more even, and the Cordians had to face the home side they’d defeated in dramatic fashion to open qualifiers on a rainy day at the Cordasfjord Colosseum. The world’s 93rd-ranked side, having knocked some of the rust off after not playing together for a year previous to qualifiers, were poised to give the Cordians a bit more trouble than they had at the Colosseum, where they consistently lost possession and gave up turnovers to the North Stars. In truth, this match was not much better for the Fleftics, who scored zero goals instead of one and whose defense proved vulnerable once again to the antics of Anton Osterholt. The striker managed a hat trick, all goals in the first half, to give Cordia the win and a helpful boost on goal differential. The first goal came in the 9th minute as Osterholt beat Margo Kahn to a ball low on the right side of the box, then flipped around and fired a left-footed shot high into the near corner to give the visiting Cordians the early lead. Four minutes later, he scored a goal reminiscent of Sebastian Voll, taking a pass from Rasmus Karlssen high in the box, stepping right to avoid an Ashley Jaxson tackle, and launching a shot low to the left side of the net. Inocencia Pendergraft might have saved it, but she read the shot the wrong way and just like that, it was 2-0 for the Cordians less than fifteen minutes into the match. Osterholt’s third goal came later in the half, in the 38th, as he went on a run across the box and got a step on Kahn before firing a near-perfect shot high and left beyond the reach of Pendergraft to give Cordia a 3-0 lead and Osterholt a hat trick. He did not return for the second half, Diandra Ballard electing to rest him and a couple other starters for more significant matches down the line.

Next for the Cordians is a home match against Atheara, whom they defeated 1-0 in a very close match due to some heroics from Anton Osterholt. That will be in a couple weeks, and followed by an away match at WBEO, who play similar to the Athearans and who the Cordians defeated in their last match, by a scoreline that escapes this poor, overstressed football writer at the moment. It’s expected for the Cordians to take six points from those two sides, who are not in real contention for the playoffs at the moment. If they can, they’ll be in solid position going into the brutal part of the schedule - Saint Eleanor and the Holy Empire in one window, then Nyowani Kitara and Wreckeria in the next. Survive that section, and we can start thinking about the World Cup for the North Stars. But that’s a tall order considering the competition. We’ll just have to wait and see, and we’ve already used up the vast majority of our rubber chicken supply. Mass imports will not arrive in time for the end of the roughest section of the schedule, meaning they will have to be stockpiled for later in the cycle. Without sacrifices for Margaret, dark days may be ahead for the North Stars.

The Red League All-Decade Team
07: Midfielders - Second Team

By: Jordan Lawless, Chief Correspondent

Ah, midfielders. How can we just pick six to represent the brilliance that midfielders have shown during ten years of the Red League? It will be difficult, but we will give it a shot. Attacking Midfielders, Wingers, and Strikers get their own category, and this is more reserved for those that line up at the middle of the field, either in the Central Midfield or the Defensive Midfield positions. Whether it be being the first line of defense in front of the opposition, the facilitator spreading around the ball, or the one taking midrange shots, midfielders come in diverse roles and sizes. Let us honor three of them now.

The Red League All-Decade Second Team Midfielder: Leysa Burns, Chromatik/Wirr Tsi

The homegrown Defensive Midfielder, Leysa Burns was a consistent force in the Red League, whether it be with Chromatik or with Wirr Tsi. A bookish type whose play is more cerebral than physical, Burns is also known for her tutelage of one Truday Harrison of Tumbra. Leysa continuesto become a more complete holding midfielder, with the addition of the ability to commit to the deep ball. Her biggest contributions came off the pitch, as she was always instrumental in coordinating with her teammates, bringing up the younger generation, and keeping up morale. An absolute team player and a model citizen, Burns was a pleasure to have in the Red League.

The Red League All-Decade Second Team Midfielder: ImageMithya Hashemi, Anomalies

A veteran since the very first season of the Rainbow League System, Mithya Hashemi has been the face of Anomalies. Brought in as a promising young midfielder, the lanky and agile midfielder played a part in the Anomalies' three-peat between Seasons Two through Four before being a mainstay through thick and thin for one of the biggest clubs in the Red League. She's a player who does everything, at both ends of the field, and while she's more apt to earn assists than pile up goals, the team that fails to close her down will learn the hard way that she's happy to shoot herself when given the chance. It's both her prominence as well as her longevity that earns her a spot on this list.

The Red League All-Decade Second Team Midfielder: ImageCixin Ngyuen, Chromatik

Yes, he's only been around for four seasons in the Red League, but he's been absolutely brilliant in that time. A star at Chromia Central College University - one of the only playmakers for the Comets during the CCFA days - Nguyen took his smart, bookish, adventurous play to Chromatik and immediately began to form a tandem with one Trudy Harrison, being the yin to Harrison's Yang as the player that pushes the ball toward the Attacking Midfielder, the Wingers, and the Striker as per Kontiola's system. With simple brilliance and a tendency to perform even better as time goes on, Nguyen has earned a tremendous following among the Capitalizt faithful.

The Third Chromatik Premier Election

Meet the Candidates #6 Hélène Embroise - The Standard

Let it be known that the days of a unified Chromatik government post-Rainbow Revolution is over. In the dissolving of the Traditionalist Party, they fired one parting shot that could have far-reaching circumstances: They removed a common enemy from the board, one that everyone could lay down their differences and focus upon. Since then, the New Light Party has concentrated most of its power toward its main candidate, Hélène Embroise, but it's not possible to see what the impact of the shattering has been, as there may be dissidents who are just not coming out into the limelight. So, let us talk about the elephant in the room from the NLP side - one Hélène Embroise.

Hélène Suzanne Embroise was born in the suburbs of Urrheddiao to Phillip Embroise and Gabrielle Embroise, two members of the Chromatik Party who held the rank of Bronze. Though they didn't run a lot of the goings on, they were the ones that passed down the orders from up high. Like good party members, they didn't ask any questions and just did as they were told. Hélène was lucky enough to be enrolled into one of the best academies that money could buy in the Chromatik Party, and she enjoyed a great bringing up, as great as can be in the regime of the Chromatik Party.

Then, the Rainbow Revolution happened, and the Embroise family made the best call ever - they defected to the Revolution, committing 100% of their knowledge and their finances to the cause. Embroise herself used her skills as a certified EMT to be a field medic in the front lines. There were very few fully pitched battles during the Revolution, but Embroise was at three of them, and treated numerous soldiers in the skirmishes that happened between the Chromatik Party and the rebels. By the end, she had earned a commendation medal for saving so many lives in the line of fire, and she became an accepted member of new Chromatika despite her upbringing.

Knowing exactly how the Chromatik Party had used the majority of the populace, Embroise became troubled by just how fast the Rainbow Party wanted to move toward the future. This led her to forming her own group of confidants, and in a move that shocked the nation, they formed the New Light Party to oppose the Rainbow Party. They weren't able to sway the Chambers of the Legislature outright, but their appearance caused Keri Wyse Aart to come to the table, and the two parties agreed on the new reparation program that has been going to this day.

With the abolishment of the Traditionalists and the splintering of the Rainbow Party, Embroise has been busy consolidating her power base to make sure that she will be ready to run as the candidate for the New Light Party. Many of the NLP look up at her as the one that brought them together, and her agenda of keeping relations with the Atlantian Oceania region (some still believe it was wrong for Chromatika to have left in the way that it did), and continued reparations from the previous elite (but in a way that can be maintained, not to the extremes that the Red Party is advocating for) are both that the New Light Party are united in.

The two things that she advocates for that the rest of the NLP does not completely agree on are the effort to try to continue to work with the Rainbow Party (her relationship with Keri Wyse Aart remains pretty good still) and her hope for a unified Chambers of the Legislature that will work toward a better future for all of Chromatika. Some think that she's too lenient, while others think that she's too strict.

There are some that say that Embroise spearheaded the split of the New Light Party to make sure that she will be on the ballot when the next Premier election came about, and there is some truth to that. Now, it's time to see if her position in the party and her popularity has risen to the point where that can indeed come true. She is the favorite, but crazier things have happened.

World Cup 92 Qualifying, Part 7: Living on a Knife's Edge

There is an art to winning games by one goal.

Let us be clear - it's not recommended for the health of your fans, especially when they're in matchups where the result will have repercussions on qualifying. It's absolutely not recommended when it's during home fixtures, when you have the support of the crowd behind you. Whether it be that you chased down the equalizer and then overcame the opposition in the late moments of the match, or that you stopped a rally by the opposition, one goal games are such an art.

Just ask the Anomalies. Lavrentiy Xuen-Zhukov scored the game winner against Brookstation in injury time after coming in late; then, Moira Ansov, in a rare moment, headed in the game winner against Juvencus the match later. Both times, the rest of the team rallied and held the lead.

Now, Chromatika holds first place in the group, but there are plenty of matches to go. The return leg, as it were. Starting with a road game at Ko-oren, with the Dragonfiles looking to avenge the three-nil drubbing at the Capitalizt Dome.

Qualification is a marathon, after all.

Rating: A - Suitable for everybody.
Broadcaster: RTH - Radio y Televisión Huayramarquina.
Time: 1h - 20:00-21:00 every Sunday.

You might not know me, so let me present myself. I’m Santiago Campuzano, I’m a foodie and a lover of tourism, culture, and all things folk. This is my first time in National TV and now I’m a man on a mission! I want YOU to hop into this adventure traversing the entirety of this vast country called Huayramarca, land of the Pachamama, high af mountains, jungles, and exotic coasts to get lost! This trip will, for sure, be an interesting one. “¡Dame tu mano y ven conmigo! ¡Vámonos al viaje para buscar los sonidos mágicos de Huayramarca!

*Then, a 1-minute intro to the tune of Huayramarca by the band Illari popped up, showing footage of the cities of Guayaquil, the Huayramarcan Metropolitan District, Sechura, El Alto, Alto Hospicio, Puerto San Carlos among others*

Welcome back to Enchanting Huayramarca, I’m Santiago Campuzano and I’m here, with my team too, enjoying the carnival time in the Province of Sechura. For starters in Huayramarca, Sechura is both the easternmost and southernmost province of the Plurinational Republic, is the panhandle that connects most of Huayramarca with Krytenia in the southeast. Sechura is known for being a land of excess and big things, a reputation that has been garnered as of late due to the oil boom in the province, something that has led Huayramarca to receive a sort of economic miracle that has been extremely well received in this part of the nation.

In the last episode, we were in Nauta watching the carnival, and in a banquet organised by one of the biggest patrons of the festivities there, a family that satiated my gimme gimme gimme food desires with plenty of food. Now, we move to the other side of the province, specifically to the second largest metropolis of Huayramarca, the city of Sechura. This city has quickly turned into the financial heart of Huayramarca, also a place known for their fastuous carnivals and exciting adventures, stories that people can tell about; stories that build the magic around this place and its flashy glow-up from being a random place between the jungle to be a fully-fledged city.

After an hour and a half flight from Nauta to the Libertador Suárez International Airport, one that has been under remodelling, to provide better attention, due to the surge on demand the place has been subjected to during the last couple of years. As soon as we reached the airport, we noted long queues and inconvenience during the arrival, so we encourage you to have patience as you will really need it if you come by air. If you decide to come here via road, it will require as much as 30-32 hours from the Metropolitan District, or a full two days from the Huayramarcan coast in a road that basically traverses every biome possible of this big nation.

After getting out of the airport we asked for transportation, Guillermo offered us the service to the hotel we will lodge for the upcoming days. Immediately, he told us a history about the surge of this city and how his identity has incorporated things from the past, present and keeps an eye on a promising future.

“Some birds say that we had luck down here, although we got divine intercession for our benefit, that’s for sure. Some random day, a little churre1 was fooling around and slipped through a pond, his mom came to see if he was injured or something, but it turned out that he was covered in a black, sticky goop-like substance. The worried mom called the police who, aside, called a Forensics Huayramarca unit to inspect the substance, after some analysis they concluded that the goop was black ore, it was oil.”

“The exploitation of oil began after a couple of weeks, once spotted, people wouldn’t waste a chance to extract a bit and try to make a fortune with it, but accidents happened, like two people died after being set on fire accidentally during the inspection of a ramshackle machinery when trying to extract oil. Fortunately, regulations were set in the right time and only professionals could lead prospections and extractions, provided the companies would support those people with the adequate equipment for health and safety in their duties.”

“As the local and national economy, Sechurans began to increase their expenditure capabilities, resources were now vast, and people decided to save some money and spend part of the excess they were having now. Sechura flourished with businesses, skyscrapers, etc. Progress is still being notorious as there are dozens of tall buildings in construction for oil companies and others in relation with the energy sector.”

“Our traditions are still there, we often invite people to come to our houses and eat, now we do it more frequently and we offer banquets rather than a small meal like in the past. I think you get it now, we’re still lovers of providing hospitalities as before, but now those are way better than it used to be in the past! Humility and noble feelings are still a core in the Sechuran DNA and our way to do things, money hasn’t corrupted our ways and behaviour, since we are aware from where we come; we come from below and we want to eat (figuratively) the multiverse now!”

We reached the hotel, enjoyed a small break, and then analysed how the words of Guillermo were real, even in more corporate-minded corners of the city such as the hotel we decided to stay, a place with superb attention and great food, all made in the Sechuran way of hospitality. Now, it was time to walk across the new city centre, with helicoidal-like buildings and some others with peculiar shapes nearby, as we were seeking for a place with some interesting local offerings, a place we managed to find 20 minutes later, near the peculiar-shaped tower.

As soon as we entered, we noted that the restaurant is one of the peculiar sanducherías2 that offers Huayramarcan-style sandwiches, mostly including avocado, peppers, ribs, etc. The variety of sandwiches is so vast that sanducherías often sell sánduches only. These businesses aren’t owned by franchises, instead, people by itself or families own one or two of those through the city and offer their family recipes for the clients looking for some food in downtown Sechura. As we entered, we watched the menu of sánduches, which has a lot to choose from, I decided to stick myself with a sánduche de pernil which features pork leg, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and even eggs if requested.

Sánduches can come in three traditional varieties of size, being those 20, 40 and 60 centimetres long, sizes that work like a standard across Huayramarca. 20 cm ones are known as “Childish Sandwich”, 40 cm ones are known as “Charity portion” and 60 cm sandwiches are known as “heavy duty” or “sánduche macho”. All the sánduches are accompanied by French fries and a set of dressings one can select beforehand. The usual dressings are either ranch sauce, honey mustard, Caesar dressing or “Ten Islands Select”, a mix of peppers, ranch sauce and species from the San Carlos Archipelago, a basically omnipresent dressing in Huayramarcan cuisine.

We decided to go with the “childish sandwiches” as our appetite was still low due to what we ate in Nauta the last night. As soon as we saw the sandwiches, we decided to go with the French fries for the sake of being easier to eat than the actual star of the dish, then, we decided to attack the sandwiches bite by bite, tasting the leg, avocado, eggs, and dressings selected for it. Preparing a sandwich might seem like an easy job but is quite hard as people must follow family guidelines on how to prepare it due to the reputation of the restaurant being dependant on continuity and how clients are used to know the sandwich. It isn’t surprising for anybody that many sandwich with, literally, the same ingredients as others in different sanducherías are radically different due to preparing methods.

We asked a client for her opinions regarding sánduches, she told us “Family ways of preparation and recipes will always be important. No matter how cool the decoration of your restaurant might be, the price, etc. We want to see tradition reflected between those breads, we want to see how good you adhere to your family ways of preparing a sánduche, which could be like the ones we use to do at home or could be completely different and we want to taste something new. Tradition will always play a stellar role when it comes to food in Sechura, no matter the circumstances.” But you might ask, how was the genesis of sánduches in Sechura? Why too much adherence to family-based recipes and traditions?”

The answer to this has been provided by Daniela Campos, the owner of the sanduchería we visited this day. She told us “Sánduches were born from the need of having a link with your family when you have some hard work, as you need something to get comfortable and to get you ready for what you’ll do after eating it. Many of the recipes include strong ingredients as our beloved ones required some good nutrition for their physical duties in forestry, oil industry or industrial production, which have been the main core of production of this city throughout time. As our income was improving, we decided to add different ingredients according to the creativity of each of us, as we were feeling an unknown sense of freedom, and many wanted to experience it with food; that’s how the family recipes and sánduches were born.”

As we finished, we had to visit one of the last things of the day, as we won’t be able to cover everything about Sechura in this episode, henceforth, we will need a third episode to do so and explain with good details what’s good here in the city. The Sechuran Academy of Dance is a strong institution for the carnival time in the city. Many of the best dancers of Huayramarca have done practices or performed in events here, also, the best professors are here to teach people different dances and choreographies that they’ll perform during the carnival through the city.

This academy, which is a nicely decorated building made in 1827, shows the renaissance of Huayramarca through the construction of this kind of edifications; by that time, the then Republic wished to show a different face after being in a state of perpetual isolation. The by-then mayor of the city, Javier Prado, wished to show the renaissance with some imposing structuration of the façade, big decorations, and ample interiors for those who intended to perform activities. The activities that were intended, by then, were limited to parliamentary activity such as meetings, special sessions, etc. Nature heavily influenced the construction, as big gardens decorate the interior of this academy.

This academy has formed students since 1925, since the National Assembly decided to leave the building for a new one, while the academy desperately needed one, since they had asked the government several times for the construction or grant of an edification for their own purposes. They finally got it and made some extra decorations, as they intended to reflect the renaissance spirit of the building to promote “spiritual renaissance” from the people who opted to dance in the academy, since they were about to “experience a new way to enjoy life”.
As of today, the academy provides free classes to people aged between 6 and 35 years, no need to pay for dresses or other costs, everything is covered up by the administration and the local government of Sechura. The program has helped, through its history, to 25,000 people; now, with some modifications to the curricula, including the expansion of classes to selected schools, the academy is now teaching dancing to, approximately, 2,500 people in an intensive course that is expected to end with one final exam, being that one the Sechura Main Parade, a festivity which is part of the Patron Saint commemorative activities that the city holds annually.

In the next episode, we will continue to show a different face of Sechura, one where the younger generations and their dynamism is changing this city from below, with dancing, charity and with their contributions to economy through work and innovation in Information Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, etc. that are turning Sechura into an interesting future-driven hub for experimentation. This and more food are what you’ll see in the next episode of Enchanting Huayramarca. See you in this same channel!

1. Sechuran slang word used as a nickname for children.
2. Sánduche stands for “sandwich” in Huayramarcan Spanish, sanducherías are the name of the restaurants that make this kind of sandwiches.

Delte 3-1 Sarzonia
Sports Correspondent Polka Lunn at Ildemorton Road for the Askirk Harpoon & Daily Herald

I won't dwell overly long on the finer details of this match, but certainly mention should be made of perhaps The Representatives biggest shock win in their short history, although one shouldn't forget the 5-3 over the Bakerites when Delte became the only team to score ten in September. Having won 'best kit in the group' for a second consecutive competition, The Stars looked nailed on for a big win against our plucky amateurs. Not a bit of it though. Untto Squaker was a mountain at the back and fully deserved his player of the match award, somehow contriving along with his fellow centre half Skelimino Bane to prevent Jake Campos and Holly Cambrio from getting a single shot on goal. Keeper Osward Ess would be buying the ales tonight as his defenders more or less gave him an afternoon off, but for the fact of Kim Samrodd's hospital backpass which ran out of steam on the way back to Osward. Ernie Mabree, making one of four appearances in the box for the whole Sarzonia team all game - and that possibly due to a slight concussion after a clash of heads a few minutes prior - still had enough about him to intercept and score what would turn out to be merely a consolation for the mighty blues and their ediraf wondershirts.

Almost immediately afterwards..

Delte 3-0 Damukuni
Sports Correspondent Polka Lunn still at Ildemorton Road for Burye News

I also won't dwell overly long on the finer details of this match, because I am getting what we in the press room call the 'fish fingers' - Carp's Typewriter Syndrome - from this extra shift on the job as The Representatives completed their back to back double header. I had wondered what all the fuss was about with this whole 'world spins faster outside the valley' business but have seen it first hand here at Ildemorton Road, where the organisers at the NSWC organised two home fixtures across four days out there in Ko-oren or wherever, but in the valley that was foreshortened to four minutes. On the plus side, the opposition failed to show up at all and a walk-over was awarded with a very handy +3 on the GD. Nice! (The Deltic FA will post a reception committee at the gates of the ground on Sunday morning in case the missing party have mis-timed their arrival in the valley. Perhaps they haven't heard about the temporal misalignment. They will also have a party waiting on 10 October 2024 and again in 2026, just to be sure).

The Quick & The Delts
4/6 : National Service And All That

19 July 2022: In the Oswark Parish Advertiser and other reputable news outlets, it was the scandal of the valley. For easy shorthand they called it ‘The Gerry’ - Hyper-Gerontological Syndrome or HGS: being artificially and rapidly aged by going out into the world beyond the fresh and therapeutic vapours of the rarified Delte Valley air. Our poor boys representing the valley at the last Baptism of Fire, World Cup, and Cup of Harmony had lost three years of time in a matter of a couple of months, and now it was going to happen all over again, and it wasn’t even the autumn yet. There was an outraged outcry, and a call to ban foreigners and travelling and the existence of the universe and especially the World Cup, until the All-Week Super Ultra Premier Football Association, the Delte FA, published accounts of the income generated by participating in the World Cup cycle.

“That is a lot of cash, to be fair,” said the outraged out-criers, calming down just a smidgeon. Still, something would have to be done, they all agreed. There should be a plan. That Issenda Tenning, the head of the FA, said the outraged out-criers, and that Tessa Sack, the Big Boss of Everything, should get their big brains together and sort it all out. What the blinking heck were they up to anyway, wondered the outraged out-criers, dithering like this with The Gerry rife amongst our young footballing heroes?

Of course they weren’t dithering at all, that was just the Oswark Parish Advertiser making mischief to sell newspapers. Which was silly really, given the Advertiser was free.

Anyway.

Led by the medical profession and the best philosophers at The Stoic Society, the general thinking went that it might take a little time to work out exactly what was happening in the world to cause HGS, the dreaded ‘Gerry’. Meantime nobody disagreed that it was a lot of cash being dropped off by Herr Blattini from the Bank of NSWC every quarter, and the FA should probably sign up for the next World Cup, even if it was only in October. They needed to come up with a holding plan. Commander Attita Quaggins suggested putting the valley on a war footing, and since this was a matter of pride and standing in the world, begin a kind of military enlistment to press our young athletes into The Football Unit, a crack team of players ready to sacrifice their age and beauty for the good of the valley. “A sort of National Service,” she said.

“We should only select teenagers,” suggested Morho Bellish, assistant coach of The Representatives and PE teacher of Oswark Vocational High School, “all they want to do is grow up before their time, and dog knows most of them could do with a boost of maturity.”

“More funding for medical research,” said Doc Orem, the national team winger and medical adviser. It was like a NationStates Issues Meeting in the Prime Ministers’ Office, all these experts with their fancy ideas and no knowing how it would pan out until it was too late to change your mind.

Arra Nasionalista Partidu (English: Arra Nationalist Party, abbreviated as ANP) is an Arranese nationalist and separatist political party in Acastanha. The party was established as a disappoinment of its founder, André Damokosa with his former party, Aliança da Arra. It currently the third largest party nation-wide. It hold 15 of 100 seats of Conselho Popular. It also become the second largest party in Conselho Estadual after PLDP where they hold 13 of 75 seats as oppose to PLDP 18 seats.

Aliança da Arra was established right after the Arrakan War in 1983 from the remnants of Aliança Nacional. The party gained immediate popularity from Arranese people and win the majority in the region in their first participation. However, the party were involved in several corruption scandals which harmed its popularity. The party was also seen have a tendencies to support Palidas parties in national level. A move that hurt many of its allies. Until early 2000, the sign of the party break up can be seen. Dualism inside the party was shown. On one side there was the official party president, Henrique Yashtarik. And the other side was the party rebel, André Damokosa. Damokosa tried to reformed the party so it more cared about their region, Arra Republic. But his effort was faced with backlash from the party leaders at the time. Then in 2002 Election, Aliança da Arra lost many votes and could only secured 3 seats in Conselho Popular. A drop of 10 seats.

Realized that he could never save the party, Damokosa left the party and established his own party. Arra Nasionalista Partidu officially established with Damokosa as its first president. Some others politician who were also disappointed like Damokosa, were also left Aliança da Arra for ANP. In 2006 Election, Damokosa success to lead the party to win 4 seats. Much better than Aliança da Arra who only won 1 seat. In the end Aliança da Arra was dissolved in 2009. While ANP continue to gained more and more votes. In 2014 election, the party success to win 11 seat in Conselho Popular. Their first 10+ seats. They were the fourth largest party nation-wide by votes share at the time. The previous election, 2018, was their best achievement.

Regionally, ANP is often in coalition with Novo Aliança da Arra (NAA) or Sindicato dos Trabalhadores da Arra (STA). In national level, their coalition are Partido Progressista Sindical (PPS) and Avante Palidas (AP). Benigno Karpanyo lead the party from 2013 which lead to the party success in the last two elections. Karpanyo is also a presidential candidate in 2014 and 2018 election. He is currently the leader of opposition. He become a controversial figure after his statement to abolished the two regions to end the gap between the two. The Arra's First Minister, who is an ANP politician, Andre Handakki, announced a possible referendum of self determination in Arra Republic.

OOC: Completing the second half of the previous, 11th part. For the sake of narrative progression, this also means that there will be a second RP, which will be written and posted before tonight's cutoff.

Dr. Heo and the Portal of Madness

PART 11 - 선곡표

3. Heroism.

Flutter, flutter, flutter! The wings of brave hopes that would float with your mind and body!

Dr. Heo of course knew these things well. Inside the taxi to his hotel that was located on the eastern end of the city’s hilly harbours, he would ask the cabbie to take a detour so that he would be able to take the hillier, more reflective route, that would criss-cross the downtown. Combining for approximately twenty-five minutes from the train station located on the southern, artificial neighbourhoods built over the seabelt silts, he would slowly reflect on his memory that was holding out on its own fort but started to fade.

Happy, happy memories, those that still float even in modern times where we find ourselves closer than ever! he would think, as the cab would ascend into a series of little-travelled, walkable hills where an occasional jogger or a cyclist would be sighted briefly before they, as the cab would pass them with quick speed and even quicker windshields, would disappear into the horizon.

I always preferred this city when it’s at its best weather in autumn, right around Chuseok, but the early Summer breeze of the city is what I would gladly wish for. He would think once again, as a flash of thoughts would pass before him. But sometimes, the beauty lies in the coincidence, and to be here in the middle of the thunderstorm… He would try this for a few minutes.

For the most part the trail of his memories, where a fairly illustrated list of those who had once lived here, would come and go as he, too, would imagine the early-summer breeze and the flower scent over the trees on the pavements. The process was fairly straightforward - he would first cover the landscape of those hilly roads around this time of the year, without anybody or even their cars, before adding each and every figure from his recollections - regardless if they have visited the city in past or ever! - into his imagination.

The vision, regardless of how different it would be from the reality of their visitation status or even the weather he was watching from some distance away, was an effective device of his mind, for both would share the same environment he had previously imagined from his often-faulty memory, and would thus be bathed in the same doses of a lost illusion.

In any case, there existed a trail of the memories that Dr. Heo had drawn out of what was otherwise a chaotic cab drive, in which the cabbie, a local man in his forties who would normally stay talkative with the out-of-town stranger, but would leave him alone due to the loudness of the rain:

Perce Town, or P-Diddy - and how lovely it is to be here?

You are most likely here to watch the Perce Town, affectionately shortened first by rappers and country musicians and then as a conventional nickname in P-Town or P-Ditty. They at the Parc des Patriotes, a stadium fittingly named after its Coast Guard heritage.

That said, there is certainly more to the city and its sporting heritage than the 17,000-seater that started to feel its 156 years of age, making it one of the oldest football grounds still standing in Quebec & Shingoryeo. Despite its distance away from the biggest cities in the province - even Bathurst, the regional centre for northern Acadie, is about two hours away - Perce has managed to remain a significant place in the hearts of many Quebecois sportspeople.

Now most football fans, as I have been reminded a few times by a gracious editor, are familiar with the club due to its cultic, small-town appeal, but are most likely new to this whole P-Diddy experience. If so, I would assume those Q-League supporters would want to head straight from the station or the bus terminal, which is located right next to the station, and cab straight to the Parc des Patriotes on the western end of Old Town, facing opposite of the Quartier des Artisans and the Royal Quebecois Coast Guard headquarters.

The stadium itself, while one of the oldest footballing grounds in the country, is memorable for all the two-sided reasons - old pubs, cigarette smell, lots of wind, - but the appeal itself comes more from the fans who brandish their blue and white scarves, smell seafood and vegetables that directly come from the nearby Seoho and Central markets, and blast trumpets. Considering Perce’s small-town, small-budget nature they are most likely used to the constant up-and-down cycle their team has seen, and have until recently stayed content and relieved that even to this day, the club has avoided 24-team pit of Quebecois Championship for the thirty-first straight year.

These attitudes are changing lately, however, with the team continuing to see a renewed investment cycles. The previous generation of talent, such as Quebeco-Cardenaoan leftback Hendrix Cha (now with Pria City), and Grim Reaper forwards Kim Seung-Yoon (RGS Athletic) and Anna Korniloff-Kouyate (1896 Ebor), have made noticeable impact on the Quebecois’ return to UICA-IFCF competitions here and abroad, and the legacies they have left off as a talent factory by former Grim Reaper P.K. Varsteeg, have no doubt brought the club its much-deserved reputation and desirability outside of Quebec.

With next generation of talents such as Squornshelan goalkeeper Shreya Krusan, a rare, Quebecois libero in Clement Mattern-Soh, and of course one of the best Tumbran wingers out there in Julie Hardaker, the fans here appear to have elevated sense of pride and anticipation for their future seasons. Of course, a lot of it does come down to how they, just like the city’s volleyball team Soohyeop (Fishermen’s Bank in Korean language -ed-) Armada, would do on key stretches. It is something that they have come close twice before in the league, most recently winning the Fermeture stage of last Q-League season, but aside from a lone Coupe de la Reine title off the classical, final career game of Tumbran legend Daniel Galbraith….there is still a lot of work left. Expect the fans to stay humble ahead of IFCF-level competitions with this in mind.

If you are planning to stay the night and possibly extend your stay by a couple more days, you fellow lovers of all sports will enjoy the Perce Museum of Municipal Sports just down the hill, on the eastern end of the Port. The Port’s east end, where a Nance shipyard used to exist until its closure in 1987, is a three-floor, grey rectangular box that is also used to host conferences and fan meetings.

While owned by Soohyeop, which owns the lesser-known, but more domestically successful, Armada of QOVO.1 league (men’s division), the museum is less so of a museum of the town’s two sports teams, but more a comprehensive sporting museum as you would see with the lengths they would go to incorporate every step the town, as a whole, has taken. Even to the least recognisable season of high school baseball. For one I recall it for three reasons: 1) its exclusive section for the youth clubs and societies that have caused the sporting boom on the grounds of the town’s three high schools in the 1880s (Perce CI, Choongmoo SS, Choongryeol Commercial HS); 2) its remarkable collection of football-related memorabilia - including handprints of about fifty club legends (nevermind the fact that those were the days when one-club men were lot more common - ed. -); and 3) the olympic bronze medal in Judo won by the local girl, now-retired Hong Yoo-Seon, in Orean Great Hall…

4. Quartier des Artisans

Every ancient city - or at least those by the history of a relatively young country that was founded just 650 years ago (1406) - has its own Quartier des Artisans.

If chambers of commerce speak to us in stone pavements, those artisan quarters would serve as the forge of all dreams both impossible and plausible, dating back to the beginning of this nation that had begun in the meetings of the Joseonian exiles and the indigenous peoples.

The only said part with this, however, is that the artisan quarter would not always reflect the weight of human souls and light years spend to build those chambers. You would occasionally step on the worn-out, broken pieces from the Korean-styled tiled roof of those forges and feel how their touch would ring from the crackling sound to your feet. Those sensations, while genuine in the way they reach to your feet and eventually the rest of your body, have their limitations for the material nature of their crafts, necessitated by the shift of industries in which they had once belonged, would slowly lose some of their ancient charms, only to be replaced by a slightly less original, minimised variation of theirs.

Still, the forges would be among the closest of places a Shingoryeoite man would find their way back, and it is for that reason alone that Dr. Heo, as the taxi would enter these quarters from the previous section’s hilly roads to make their way to the Hotel.

Unfortunately for him, the windows continued to be blurry and wet with both the rain and the wind striking against their sedan. So, without a doubt, he would once again close his eyes, this time thinking about some of the recommendations he would make to a visiting tourist:

...If you are visiting the city in the autumn, as I would generally advise you, my dear friend and companion, to do so, I would recommend you to start from the Quartier des Artisans and head to the Marina. Rows of colourful, dotted houses, covered by colourful murals of the local schoolchildren, resemble not only the healthiest of coral reefs you would find on Azurean or Sylestonian waters, but you would be able to play out your part in the ecosystem of this beautiful earth as its participant some distance away.

Behind those worn-out walls - marked by the sheer age of the rocks they have been made of - you would notice that each Gongbang would have most of its windows open. It is there you may be able to take a glimpse of the steel arms and the beaten hands of a craftsman, whose everything depended on their muscle memory of everyday items, and they would not say a word about them upon your first moment of encounter with them. The first time you meet one of them…you would notice their badge of honour, which would transport you back centuries and feel the time slower even you return to the normal world.

Oh, and do not forget to buy a rare item once there. Those old, dusty household items from your parents' or grandparents’ house were likely from here or some southern town of comparable nature but of lesser fame. Often those items you would forget about their existence, but when you are a traveller, you would go back to how those objects, which you had once considered to be of little importance, have been here with you all this time.

I still remember my late grandparents’ place - god bless both their souls - and how each and every bedroom had those old, old items. In the morning the rooms were usually curtained, so when you woke up you would see nothing but pure darkness, even when it’s close to noon and your mum would wake you up, telling you that it’s time not only the grandparents and your family - but also those of your uncle and aunt - to eat together at a massive wooden table on the living room (the dining room is a fairly new concept in Quebec and Shingoryeo, especially on rural towns -ed-).

So you would wake up, still feeling sleepy while your eyes are barely open. With how unreliable the lights were on the ceilings you would have to move the curtains to get any semblance of light, and there was no other way for you and your brother to navigate through this dark labyrinth of a room! So you, with your thick, weary body frame, would move the curtains to left, bringing those Raden-carved, wooden wardrobes and beds out into the open element…

..and You would not believe how amazing that would feel, as the rays would collide, deflect and reflect off one another. said he, as the cab had reached the Stanfield Hotel located right on top of the hill right next to the city's famed Marina. Upon thanking the cab driver for his effective, enamouring way of driving into the rainstorm, something that was reflected with a very rare, generous tip on the bill, he would find himself say the rest of the sentence, his luggage case right next to him in front of the building.

It’s almost as if there’s no need for a room of mirrors you would see on those gigantic palaces out there…I think one of them apparently is called Versailles?...

Justice Amongst Friends

Former Senior Adviser - now Landsman - Øystein Øye was huddled in the trunk of a car with a bag over his head. What had happened? It was all so fast. One minute he was carrying crates with slab on to the beach, the other he was jumped by masked assailants and struck unconscious. Perhaps it was a friendly jest from his crew mates? That would be sooo them, beating him and stuffing him in a sack or something else lighthearted like that. The life of a sailor: always full of excitement and unpredictability.

How long had he been out? Impossible to tell. Where was he going? Equally impossible to tell. But he felt certain he was traveling in the back of a car: the motions were not those of a boat. This worried him slightly, because he couldn’t really conjure up a scenario where his crew mates would use a car. So if not the crew of HMS Onslaught, then who? And back home in the Union of all places?

That good old prosaic land of rolling hills, deep forests and tranquil life. Who here would ever wish harm upon him? Øystein contemplated his life, and for all his efforts he could not come up with any potential suspects. His life in the Union had been peaceful and mostly without major incidents. It was really after he joined the Onslaught things had gotten crazy. That made him stop to think. Yes, his high-profile defection. That could definitely be a source of animosity.

He knew his cats had struggled with grief, but they were dead now, and probably not the most likely perpetrators anyhow.

Directorate General Nina Stark? Yes, she was most definitely not pleased with him giving his notice. But still, people quit, right? It’s sad, often inconvenient. But kidnapping? No.

His parents? No, also dead. His life as a pirate would have brought enough shame to possibly induce murderous - or at least very angry - tendencies, so maybe someone working on their behalf and thinking of family honor? They didn’t have many friends though, and the few they had would all be dead by now as well.

Senior Advisor Jakob Pettson, his old Friend and Padel partner, and now also partner in illegal cutlery trade? He was clearly cross with Øystein, but something this risky and dramatic seemed highly uncharacteristic. No.

Hannah and the kids? No. Just no. Of course, leaving them behind was a terrible thing to do. Horrendous, appalling, awful and dreadful, actually, when he thought about it. The girls must be about five now. And he never once called to wish them a happy birthday. Too busy with living a pirate’s life. But he hadn’t even sent home any booty to speak of, so not even much of a pirate. They did have every right to be angry at, and disappointed with, him. But surely he did not deserve this? No. Or perhaps yes? Did he deserve this? For taking Friends for granted for so long? For breaking their hearts and leaving them to linger in Sadness?

All of a sudden the car stopped. Øystein could hear muffled voices. The trunk was opened and strong arms pulled him up. They were outside; he could hear finches chirping. But then he was shoved inside, almost tripping over a doorsill. And now he was forced to sit down, and he could feel rough ropes being tied around his wrists. Then complete silence. For a long time.

He had almost fallen asleep, losing all sense of time. Then suddenly the bag was removed. It took a minute to adjust his eyes, but when he could see clearly again, he was witness to a chilling sight. Four hooded figures stood before him, and in the middle emerged a tall man with green robes and an antlered hat sitting like a crown on his head. The hooded figures started huffing, first low and slowly, then increasingly faster and louder.

Øystein closed his eyes and screamed as the the antlered man approached him carrying a frighteningly large rock high over his head

But then nothing. Øystein opened his eyes, and he saw that one of the hooded figures had cut across and whispered in the robed man’s ear. The man with the antlers listened intently and then nodded. He put down his rock and cleared his throat.

“It seems there has been a slight happening of the misunderstanding, it was the Symbolic Death by the stone that had been ordered. Not the traditional Real Death. Truly, not many people order the Symbolic Death these days, let alone the Real Death, so that should have perhaps made me think the thing was wrong. My mistake. We remove the Stone of Death! Please bring forth the Pebbles of Grievance!”

One of the hooded figures ran off and quickly came back with a bag, handing it to the man in the green robes. The man opened it, and chanted loudly. Jakob, Hannah and her brothers Hannes and Harald removed their hoods and started pelting Øystein with pebbles, while airing their grievances with him.

After about an hour, they were done. And so was Øystein. He had seen the errors of his ways, and was all but ready to forsake his life a pirate, and all his kidnappers chanted «One of us, One of us, One of us!». But then the ritual was interrupted by a phone ringing. Jakob answered and listened while his eyes grew bigger. He hung up and looked at the others, and then at Øystein. “The Onslaught has kidnapped Little Lars,” he proclaimed. They all gasped, including Øystein. “Oh no, not the adorable little social media sensation!” Hannes shouted, tears forming in his eyes.

Jakob nodded with a grim face. “Indeed, the very same. And they want you, Øystein. Or else.” Øystein shook his head, “But I don’t wanna be pirate anymore!” Jakob patted him on the back, and said, “We’ll figure something out. They’ve requested a prisoner exchange at neutral grounds. Tomorrow.”

An Inkling's Dilemma

Episode 6 - What World

Despite Squidroidia dropping only 2 points, Group 9 didn't feel so assured with just over half of the cycle done.

To be fair, none of the groups felt assured yet. Apart from Group 8, with Tikariot making a charge at the top spot while reigning champions Græntfjall sat an uncomfortable 7 points behind them in 2nd, you could seriously call that group now and nobody would bat an eye. Unless the Snow Wolves regained their World Cup winning form, of course. Turori and Savigliane were tied on points in Group 1. Group 5 is so all over the place that Poafmersia going from 6th place to qualifying for the World Cup may not seem bizarre.

In a group where Kimi-Suomi are in 2nd place, 2 points behind Omerica and with a drink in their hands. Not a game, a drink.

Other than the aforementioned Groups 1 and 8, all 13 other groups had first and second separated by anywhere from 1 point to 4 or 5. Squidroidia's Group 9 was right in that margin, despite Squidroidia having an unbeaten record and, along with the aforementioned Tikariot as well as Banija, had only dropped 2 points all cycle after Matchday 12. The margin hadn't been larger only because Drawkland basically had the same record as them. Except that they lost to the Inklings, but that was besides the point.

A 3 point margin in qualification might as well be none at all with a great team right behind your back. In 2 matchdays time, you might be 3 points behind the team you came into those 2 matchdays 3 points ahead of. A team is basically put into a place where they have to rout out as many wins as possible before they have to face the team in 2nd and win that game (Or tie, you do you) to have any assurance that they, and only-

-they, would finish in first.

What world were those who wanted to quit the Squidroidian team just because they did Ko-oren better than Ko-oren in? Probably one where Macbon and the Inklings swapped places, Coltfield thought. Even after beating Garifunya 1-0 and seeing Marianne McKay come off the bench to score 2 against Mystylands (Go Mystylands) in a 4-0 win, some people didn't like the team because of their style, ignoring the fact that they were beasts in qualifying as they should be for a Pot 1 side.

Those people didn't like the Blue Wall. They didn't want to see advanced defending or elegant, albeit elementary, passes. The ball goes into goal and they get happy. Even 4-0 to Mystylands (Go Mystylands) wasn't enough to calm them down. They felt like the SNTA betrayed them, despite everything being just fine if not better, because they strayed a bit too much into defense. It was essentially abandoning national pride because ball didn't go in or team play different.

Utter nonsense and yet, still, a dilemma the National Team Association had on their hands. Either keep Rachel Coltfield and give the Tinhamptonian all the time in the world to finish qualification and make a run at the World Cup in Vilita or Electrum or throw these fans a bone and keep them from watching any other national team.

The SNTA was a business. Of course they would still back their woman.

Statement from the Squidroidian National Team Association

As we have seen in the past few weeks, some of our fans have been calling for the team to switch back to a more attack-lenient system. While we would love to respect our fans, it's clear that the Rachel Coltfield regime has brought in the best ever qualification campaign for a Squidroidian national team and a change in philosophy would severely damage the morale of the Inklings.

Rachel Coltfield is an aging, experienced manager who has proven that 20 years of absence from managing any sort of football can still mean that anybody can drag a team to new heights. While we are keen that she will retire soon, it isn't likely that retirement is on the cards until around World Cup 94. According to the contract signed by Coltfield for her to manage the Inklings, she has promised to qualify Squidroidia for World Cups 92, 93 and 94 proper, or 2 out of those 3 World Cups with a qualification substituted by a deep Cup of Harmony run of the Quarter-Finals or better. She is well on track to meeting those expectations.

To put it again, we will not replace Rachel Coltfield because a couple of fans don't like her style. Not a lot of people like hyper offensive football too, and we'd still be making the same statement if an all-out manager managed our team. We see your concerns, however, and will take them into mind when it comes to selecting the next Squidroidia manager, whoever may it be.

Thank you for your understanding,

-Itoh Hoshi
President, Squidroidian National Team Association

BBC OFFICIAL REPORT: Our Biggest Home Win Since... A Few Weeks Ago

By Assistant Football Correspondent Obamarechi Eze

Obamafalls, East Obama - There must be a lucky charm in the surrounding the Fort Obama Supermax. I mean, if the terrorists and anti-government activists were so lucky, why were they in prison? are the unsolved mysteries of the world. Not too long after defeating New South Yukon 4-0, the Obama Carers managed to equal their biggest margin of victory by demolishing Quakmybush 5-1.

Quakmybush entered the game in terrible form, having already lost their last two games and still having open wounds from a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of the Obamen earlier in the qualifying stages. The grass was not so green on the Obaman side, with their normally sturdy defence conceding 7 times in the last two games (granted, they were against heavy favourites Nyowani Kitara and The Holy Empire, and the Obamen ended the former game with 9 players). Hopefully, a big victory would boost the Obamen's confidence for their upcoming run of games.

Bogdan Obammus was back on the team today, and the Obamen were experimenting with a 4-4-2 lineup. Barracki and Pogama were moved to fullback positions. Juan Bama and Jean-Marie Ouibama played on wide midfield, with Charles Obama and Wolfgang Obamadeus-Mozart in central midfield. It was evident that the Quakmybushians had already given up on their campaign to qualify, as they were just as lethargic and uninspired as they were when we defeated them 4-1 in Revena. Wolfgang Amadeus-Mozart's forward passes today were surprisingly effective today, causing the Quakmybushian defence all sorts of problems. An incisive through ball from the award-winning music producer to striker Fred Olibama led to a goal for the Obamen in the 22nd minute. The Obama Carers' lead doubled shortly afterwards after a spectacular volley from Jenny Barracki in the 24th minute.

Satisfied with their commanding lead, the Obamen relaxed a little and just passed the ball around the back for a while. During this time, even the entertainment-starved prisoners watching decided to find something better to do. However, a misplaced pass from Bark Obamallama in the 43rd minute led to a Quakmybushian forward gaining possession and smacking the ball as hard as he could. The shot went straight into the top right corner and goalkeeper Dwayne Obama had absolutely no chance of saving that. 2-1 at half time.

The Obamen got the second half off to a flying start. In the 51st minute, midfielder Charles Obama celebrated as he thought his deflected shot had finally gotten him his first international goal. Sadly, it was ruled as an own goal. After almost an hour of strolling around the pitch, winger Brett Pogama woke up in the 62nd minute and delivered a fantastic cross. The ball floated towards Fred Olibama's feet as he bagged a brace. And just one minute later, Barracki sprinted towards the goal right after kick off to smash the ball in from 20 yards out. 5-1 to the Obamen. After that, the Obamen were feeling a bit more lazy and a bit more satisfied with their four goal lead, and just had a nice kickabout for the rest of the 30 minutes amidst booing and the occasional slur from disappointed prisoners.

Things Are Getting Tighter...

Postby Kimi-Suomi » Tue Oct 11, 2022 5:42 am

Kimi-Suomi may actually be in contention for a spot in the World Cup. En voi uskoa, että sanoin juuri sen. Yes, the Huuhkajat are actually within a shout of potentially finishing in the Top 3 of this group. How? Well, Esko Laaksonen is just turning into a managerial god, our players are just playing out of their skins in a campaign they have so far only lost in twice and our dedicated fans, Kimin Armeija itself, are actually starting to believe and are throwing everything but the kitchen sink to try and keep this run of form alive for as long as humanly possible. But how did this team fair as we crossed over from 1st half to 2nd?

Up first in this double-header at Pesä would be Tecoinen [Tecoia], a debuting team from the Baptism of Fire that was certainly understanding just how difficult life in this place can be. Still, André Mendoça had managed 9 points so far with Os Marítimos and that was certainly better than nothing. Heck, they even managed to take the lead in this contest thanks to a superb strike from Liam Masangkay, but the Huuhkajat simply wasn't going to let that one slide and took control from that point on. It wasn't the best performance this team has produced thus far this campaign, but it certainly was enough as two 2nd half goals from Kimi Airo and Mika Noronen would be enough to see them off in the end. With leaders Omerikka having their bye on the final day of the first half, the gap to the top fell to 4 points.

Then came the start of the rematches, beginning with the bottom side known as Kethsi. These guys have certainly not had a fun time at all in their debut WC, with only 4 points thus far, and as such, Esko felt that his players could take things a bit easier this time around and just play for the win and just that. That job was certainly done, with the only goal of the game coming from good ol' Tero Salo in the 56th minute. This result is certainly important, but context is also key. Omerica dropped points against Lakikieli [Legalese]. The gap is down to 2 points.

Slowly but surely, the belief everyone in the Rouge Kingdom has in this team is getting harder and harder to ignore. This team is trying to pull off something special...and there may be a chance we can do it. Two games must follow, starting against Eteläiset Palmsaaret [Southern Palm Islands] on the road before we potentially have something we wouldn't have ever expected - a 1v2 showdown at Pesä when Omerikka come to town. That game will be hype, no matter the consequences...but this team has to fight on.
We have a chance. We have a fucking chance.
NOSTA KUIN HUUHKAJAT!

Analysis of potential for spectator capacity increases for Torbay Thunder Football Club
HONCKER & YATES ASSOCIATES, Kirkenes

Options
Expansion of Armidale Plain
Since the City of Torbay has indicated its willingness to allow TTFC to carry out club-funded renovations to improve the facility. Obtaining such funding would require the club taking on debt, potentially reducing funds for transfers and wages that could negatively affect on-field performance. A preliminary feasibility study suggests that capacity could be increased to around 17,800 with construction taking two years at a cost of around τ30 million.

Hosting selected matches at Trade Unions Park
A key point of interest is the availability of Trade Unions Park, a public-private partnership owned jointly by the City of Torbay and Torbay Rugby Union, which operates a professional rugby club based at the venue. Trade Unions Park is an international standard venue which has hosted Rugby World Cup matches and has a capacity of 25,850. It is the largest stadium in the province.

There has generally been greater interest in the matches against Big Five clubs, but reviewing the matches that sold out in the previous season suggests higher demand is not always predictable. In one of these matches staying in IFCF qualification spots was at stake, and on the final match of the season against Strathcona a sell-out was probably encouraged by the promotional giveaway of hammers sponsored by a hardware retailer.

The key disadvantage is the administrative costs, which may eat into the additional revenue gained, and inconvenience to fans who enjoy similar match day routines and sitting in the same seats around fellow spectators they have often formed relationships with over the years.

CF Outineau’s experience shows that even for a major club this can erode brand equity and unsettle spectators. Reports on fan experience suggesting confusion about where each home match would be, and that it felt strange to play the most important matches at a different venue than usual, were a factor in CF Outineau eventually moving to Stade Olympique for all matches. A strong note of caution from this comparison should be kept in mind: CF Outineau has a much larger fanbase and greater resources to cushion the risk of financial losses if the higher costs of a larger stadium are not matched with a growth in ticket revenue.

Full relocation to Trade Unions Park
This could be seen as a statement about the club’s ambitions. However in the short term this will likely result in a stadium less than half full, which may communicate the opposite. Careful public relations will be needed to frame this in a positive rather than negative way.

This option also incurs significant financial risk. To break even would require increased average attendance; on current figures the additional cost would be close to loss-making. For TTFC to have a marginal benefit depends on, according to our estimates, average attendance rising to 20,773. This is a large increase that will likely take years to materialize.

Brianna, Cassie III respond to Highway 41 bombing,
by Kelsey LeClair, Concord Heights Times, Current Events

On a day where many Cassadagans just wanted to relax and enjoy the massive World Cup qualifying tilt against Nephara, citizens got a reminder that things are not completely settled between us and The River Republic. There have been off and on skirmishes between troops and members of the terrorist organization over the last year, and many have probably been concerned over what would happen when the next major strike would happen. Up north, the Cassadagan military has looked to make the area seem like less of a warzone and have tried to play the role of peacekeeper a lot more for our newest citizens. It has been reported elsewhere that Cassadagan troops were sitting around military bases, but that is not really true. One could see where that argument would be made, but instead of “sitting around”, the patrols were simply not strong enough. The insurgency had likely studied when those patrols were taking place, and figured out some sort of pattern with them, to make their strike in a highly efficient manner. Overall, the vast majority of troops were probably acting more as policemen within towns and villages then patrolling a war zone.

Some have wondered why our forces were doing this, and those concerns are not limited to foreign publications. Now, please bear in mind that what I am about to say does not reflect my opinions or that of the Concord Heights Times, but it is something that has been heard throughout the Matriarchy. That is, that Brianna I and Cassie III have actually been waiting for something like this to happen to justify what they really want to do with The River Republic. The occupation of the Northern Territory, moreso the way it took place, is unpopular throughout the world and no one is going to pretend that it is not. Time will only distance ourselves from the events that happened in Gastineau, and not erase them. While more evidence of similar graves were not found elsewhere in the Northern Territory, and I personally don’t believe there were more to be found, let’s face it, a lot of people are skeptical and feel that there are more examples, and there are no words that a Queen or Princess can say, or that someone like me can write, that will change the minds of those people. Since it is unpopular, Brianna and Cassie III are well aware that they cannot just unleash the massive strength of the Cassadagan military on the terrorists and have the rest of the world be cool with that. Many believe that the terrorists are being funded and armed by the Euran government. That is officially denied by Bastion, but most can read between the lines. Therefore, a massive attack on the insurgents could trigger Eura in a way that could really have this situation blow up, pun intended. Our royals know that not everyone sees The River Republic as terrorists, and that there are plenty out there who are sympathetic with them. In that regard, the Cassadagan army is best having the skirmishes that have been existing between the sides over the past year, with each side having moments that they could claim as victories over the other.

A bigger incident could begin to show the world who The River Republic really are, and reasons why the command to order massive counter attacks against them are justified. The bombing of a bridge over the Highway 41 project accomplishes nothing other than to disrupt our efforts to improve the infrastructure of the Northern Territory. It will be costly to repair, and it will set this project back. However, the location of the attack as going to concern Cassadagans, as a whole, because it did not happen right alongside the Cooper River where a lot of the incidents have been happening, but a little too close for comfort to the traditional Cassadagan border. That part is going to make people see this as more then just one of those “off again, on again” skirmishes, even if there were no casualties.

Princess Brianna condemned the actions, and proclaimed last night, that, “Unfortunately for the members of this region, we are going to have to have tanks back out in the street again, planes patrolling the skies with great frequency, and drones out there surveys this entire region. We have had difficulty with the terrorists, but the actions on Highway 41 require this to happen. We will begin doing this immediately.”

Queen Cassie III also made her own statement, authorizing more troops to head north. It’s a shame for these women and men, because many of them were able to head back to their homes after serving in the region previously, “In discussions with the Princess over the matter that took place up north, I have authorized a to be undisclosed number of troops and military equipment, including a large number of aircraft which will be based, again, at an undisclosed location, to head to the region. The leaders of The River Republic are advised at this point to push back into their territory and put down their weapons. We strongly suggest that they surrender at this point. But I am not stubborn enough to think that they will. Still, we will provide this opportunity to them to see the might that we are bringing forward and that we will not negotiate with terrorists. Defensive airstrikes, where if we are figuratively punched once, our forces are authorized to figuratively punch twice, will occur in the immediate short term over the next week. If The River Republic does not put down their weapons and surrender, or if they decide to carry on attacks, we will begin offensive air strikes on a consistent and reoccurring manner on any of your targets.”

The Queen then turned her message to the rest of the world, “The attack on the Highway 41 bridge impacts the nation of Cassadaigua and our ability of our citizens, new and old, to live a happy and normal life. This is not about politics, or about what happened in Gastineau. We will defend our nation, and defend it strongly. This is not something that I wish to do, but I am forced to do it. We will defeat terrorism!”

Some have suggested that the Queen just “drop a bomb” on them and have that be the end of it, but Queen Cassie III, as well as Princess Brianna I know that it is absolutely not that easy. A group like the River Republic is tough to fight, not having a centralized base, and there is only so much information available as to where they are. The new patrols that have been authorized implied that Cassadagan aircraft will not only be flying over the northern territory, but also over the land not part of that territory, seeking out where The River Republic may be. Therefore, attacks on these planes are to be expected and is why the message of “if you punch us once, we will punch back twice” has been given. Because The River Republic is not its own country, Cassadagan forces are not interfering with anyone’s airspace by doing this. The River Republic does not officially own the land in which they are residing, so cannot claim the airspace as their own.

Tough one against Nephara, worse one after,
by Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

Fans packed Dagan Airways Stadium in Concord Heights to see the national team take on Nephara in the group stage of World Cup qualifying. That sentence, alone, just seems very weird to utter. Recently, our paths have been crossing a lot, but it has been in the World Cup itself, or in the latter stages of the Cup of Harmony. For a while, the Cormorants were dominating the head to head matchups, but the tide has turned of late to our favor. Still, you don’t expect to see this in qualifying, but with Cassadaigua being the first team in pot 2, it became a possibility, and here it is. Tickets for the match sold out very quickly, both from Cassadagans, and Nepharim fans knowing that a trip to Concord Heights would be easier than going out of region. Sadly, the actions of The River Republic on the Highway 41 project put a dark cloud over the game. For our fans, anyway. Fans of the Cormorants that made the trip were surprisingly vocal in making anti-Cassie III comments throughout the game. It could have been the making of brawls in the stands, but both of these fanbases have been around the sport enough to probably know just how far they can nudge the other one without igniting such a brawl in the stands. No such incidents were reported.

Prior to the match, AFC Treason star Morgan Rosenblatt answered the usual questions from the same reporters about playing in the Zenith, and most of us could have predicted what her answers were. It was time for her to lead the team in this game that was, at the time, more critical for Nephara than it was for us. Morgan was involved in both the highs and the lows of the match as far as we were concerned. It was a physical match, with Rosenblatt first giving 21-year old Arachne Loeher a message in what it’s like to play at this level in this type of match with a hard, but clean (in the eyes of most), elbow to the face, but then Loeher would show Rosenblatt, and the rest of the Fillies, why she is starting on the national team with a great individual effort to get a great shot on Stacie Thornton that the keeper stopped but did not control. The rebound went to another youngster, Felixe Vetiver, to give the Cormorants their second, and game winning goal. Chloe Anderson, who had a strong game, overall, was the Fillies goal scorer.

I hate to criticize Brittany Byers, but I sense that this game went a little more physical than the team was expecting, although that did go both ways. Igrene Cantor managed a great game for Nephara, looking to make an impression on the team to be around for a long time, unlike some of recent predecessors. Starting the younger plays, like a Arache Loeher and Felixe Vetiver were the right decisions, but maybe not the easiest ones in a game like this. Vetiver is highly touted in Nephara, though in order to watch her, Nepharim fans must tune into 1830 Cathair matches. (Not that they are ever a bad thing to watch, unless you root for their opponents). After the match, Byers did not say a lot, and provided the cliche of, “They needed it more, and it showed in their execution. We played a good game, it doesn’t show in the result, but we battled hard in this one.”

After playing such a physical match against Nephara, Byers opted to give playing time to others against Tjorl. Stacie Thornton would still start in goal, with regular starters Madison Rutland and Amber Hogan joined by Hailey Meyer and Rachel Becker in the back. Otherwise, the team started in a 4-4-2 formation with Rosenblatt and Krystal Sherwin starting as usual, but alongside Marquis Miles and Tara Kriedel. Up front, Rachel Boldin and Allyson Perry started. Chloe Anderson was not dressed for the match due to a pulled hamstring in the match against Nephara. Of these players, Miles was going to be the one getting the most attention, and not just as a male starter. He was seen as the one who would have normally gotten the starting job if the team went with the traditional 4-4-2 lineup at the start of qualifying.

Unfortunately, when you mix and match a lineup like this, you risk it not being in sync, and that was the case. The defense was fine, and in goal Stacie Thornton was outstanding. I also thought that Meyer and Becker did well to establish themselves in the back. Otherwise, the team struggled, and one statistic where it shows the most is that the team was whistled for being offsides more than any other qualifying game in years and years. It was odd that Rosenblatt did not have that chemistry with Boldin, since they are used to playing with each other, and even Perry has been used as a substitute enough for chemistry to exist there. Miles did not really have a great game, and Tara Kriedel showed why she was left off the starting roster this time, rather than convincing Byers that she made a mistake. In the 73rd minute, with the score still 0-0, Byers gave 18-year old Lexi McGregor her first taste of qualifying action, hoping to be a sparkplug. However, that backfired, as Lexi tried waaaay too hard to be a hero, and that came at the expense of the rest of the team. Frustratingly, when all was said and done, this game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Over the last three matchdays now, Cassadaigua has scored a total of one point. One was our bye, but the loss to Nephara and the draw to Tjorl show that the team should not feel comfortable with their standing in the group. Kelssek is now on top, and they have a three point lead over us and the rest of the group. They are taking care of business against “everyone else”, with a 8-1-0 record against everyone not named Cassadaigua or Nephara. That clip will be concerning to fans of both us and Nephara, and we’ll need them to starting dropping points to others within the group while taking care of business in the head to head matchups. I wrote when it happened, that our home draw against Kelssek could come back to really haunt us, and that’s looking like it might more and more the case. We need six points over our next two games.

Stop the madness!
By Jose Perez, Midfielder

It was not an easy decision for my family to become Cassadagans. In my village on the western end of the Cooper Region, but pretty close to the Cassadgan border, I was unlike others on the team where I could have become a Cassadagan citizens before all of this happened. It would have only required a 30 mile journey south to cross the border. I have five brothers and one sister, and none of us, along with our parents, saw Cassadaigua as being a part of our future. Why would we? My sister was the only one of us who liked the demographic situation of the nation, but she didn’t want to leave the rest of us. Instead, we had a nice little village that we were a part of. It was adequately secure, and I think a big part of that is because we were so close to Cassadaigua, it wasn’t a place that pirates would travel too as much. The biggest dangers for us were within the village itself, of our own homegrown thugs. With them, many of us were able to acquire guns, so we could fend them off. They wouldn’t know which homes were more heavily armed than the others.

Within the town, we had a school that educated everyone, with seven teachers. Three of them, that I knew of anyway, actually lived in Cassadaigua proper and came up to our village on their own time. That was appreciated. There was a larger house that served as a hospital where some medical personnel also made the trip north, but my family would actually head south of the border when we needed medical care. Most places would not accept us, but word got around of what clinics would accept people from our village.

When the troops came to our house, it was stressful and our household was split. Most of us did not want to become Cassadagans, and three of my brothers actually asked how long they would have to pack their bags and get on the bus. The solider was pushy, and there was not much time that was going to provided, almost as if we were being forced to make a decision to stay. I have been told after the fact, that this situation improved after the Gastineau incident, with the way that the soldiers treated people. We were able to talk the soldier into giving us more time to decide, and eventually we chose to say. I think we felt forced to a little bit, the situation was not ideal at all. Watching people that you knew from within the village go on the buses was difficult to see. Our village was able to function. We didn’t need this.

Time went on, and we saw what happened in Gastineau, and were disgusted. That was a turning point of the ordeal, though, as I believe the occupying troops became far more considerate of people like me. In seeing that, our confidence that we made the right decision for ourselves would get better. Houses have been built in the village, and what was the large house that served as a hospital is now three times as large and serving as a clinic. Cassadagan teachers have come north to train our own citizens to become teachers, and one of my brothers is one of them. Some business have opened up, mostly small business, and they are a great asset to our community.

The highway 41 project was going to be great for our village to continue to expand and grow, and we were so happy to see the construction coming along. The Cassadagans really were taking care of us, and not infringing on our lives. We can’t wait until this is done.

Then the River Republic blew up one of the bridges, setting the project back significantly. Thanks for nothing, assholes! You certainly don’t have our best interests in mind.

Elmwood Bests Bates For DFA Presidency

SCOTT CITY - Randall Elmwood has been elected as the next President of the Darmeni Football Association following a vote of the delegates present at the DFA Congress in Scott City on Saturday. Elmwood defeated incumbent DFA President, Peter Bates, by a wide margin, 105 delegates voting in favor of Elmwood, with only 14 in favor of Bates and three delegates abstaining.

Elmwood, formerly the Vice-Chairman of the DFA's Strategic Studies Committee, had throughout his campaign promised to establish new programs to help financially distressed clubs during a time of economic upheaval in Darmen. With many local football clubs facing mounting debts and increasing interest rates, Elmwood's proposed Grassroots Football Assistance Program (GFAP) and Debt Alleviation Program (DAP) clearly resonated with many of the delegates. Bates' meager support came primarily from delegates representing the Metropolitan FA, whose member clubs would be ineligible to receive assistance through GFAP. Bates campaigned on a platform of budgetary restraint, claiming that Elmwood's proposed platforms would stretch the DFA's budget to the breaking point.

Elmwood now has four years to implement his programs and hopefully leave Darmeni football in a healthier position than it is at present. His experience as a committee chairman in the DFA will be invaluable as he builds support for his programs throughout the organization. The newly elected Executive Committee of the DFA is expected to meet within the coming weeks, meaning that Elmwood's proposed programs may be in place as early as the 2056-57 football season.

Take control of Tumbra in NationStates VI, the latest edition in the award-winning 4X video game franchise

Tumbra will be added as a playable civilisation in NationStates VI, the award-winning 4X video game franchise. Led by two leaders from different times in Tumbra's history, the two historical personalities add different dimensions to the economy and production-based gameplay that the Tumbran civilisation will focus on.

Uniques
Tumbra's unique ability and unique building both focus on the post-independence industrialisation experience it encountered, where it exploited a fast-growing railway system to ship out the products the country made to the world. The civ's unique ability, From Tumbra To The World, gives any city controlled by Tumbra a 25% production discount on buildings in the Industrial, Commercial and Harbour districts, while the civ's unique building, the Railway Shed, provides additional bonuses to building railways — making it paramount that railways are built quickly after the civ discovers the Railways technology. Get the timing of building railways right, and the country's economy will snowball, allowing for the civilisation to pivot towards almost any type of victory it wishes.

UNIQUE ABILITY: From Tumbra To The World
Tumbran cities with a Railway connection to the capital have a 25% discount on Production costs for buildings in Industrial, Commercial and Harbour districts. Railways are built 25% faster and trade routes using Railways located in Tumbran territory gain +1 gold for every Railway tile travelled on. Gain one extra trade route per city with any two of the Industrial, Commercial and Harbour districts. Gain one extra spy after the Constitution civic is researched. Unlock the Railway Shed unique building after the Steam Power technology is researched.

UNIQUE BUILDING: Railway Shed
Unique Tumbran building. Does not replace any building. Can be built in either the Industrial District or City Centre, but not both. Movement on Railways within two cities with this building is sped up. If built in the Industrial District, gain +3 Production and +5 Gold. If built in the City Centre, gain +3 Amenities and +7 Gold.

Matthias II Tevantine
Matthias II Tevantine, the Prince of the Severn River, is one of the two leaders of Tumbra in NationStates V. Ruling over the south of Tumbra from 1218 to 1275, the young prince took over an economically-impoverished princedom on the south of Tumbra that had suffered greatly from wars of unification; and slowly, but surely, guided it to becoming one of the richest regions of Tumbra by the time of his passing in 1275. Renowned for his economic management and fair personality, the Prince managed to hold off an attack from a coalition of militarily stronger neighbours in 1260, owing to a famous call-to-arms that inspired thousands of peasants to take up arms in support of their Prince. Matthias' leader ability, From Plowshares, Swords, echoes this campaign by allowing Worker units to be transformed into slightly weaker Infantry or Ranged units for no cost after war is declared on the civilisation, but all units converted in this manner gain +1 Movement. After the Tumbran civilisation is at peace, these units will transform back into Worker units, allowing for a quick rebuild of improvements around your civilisation. The Millhouse, Tevantine's Unique Building, allows for your Farms to become even more productive. Based on the marketplaces and granaries that dotted every city in the Severn River region, the Millhouses were controlled by Matthias' government, buying grain at a price that was roughly nearer to the market cost, and higher than that of surrounding princedoms — allowing for huge grain reserves to be built up by the country.

LEADER ABILITY: From Plowshares, Swords
Matthias II Tevantine may convert Worker units into Infantry or Ranged units at their nearest city at no cost. These Units suffer from a 5% negative combat strength penalty, but have an additional +1 Movement. After peace is declared, units trained in this way transform back into Worker units. Repairing Improvements takes 50% less time. Gain the Millhouse unique building at Pottery.

LEADER AGENDA: Rebuilder of the River
Likes civilisations that are currently at peace and have a lot of Farms. Dislikes civilisations that are at war with others, regardless of enemy, or have very little agricultural productivity.

UNIQUE BUILDING: Millhouse
Unlocked with the Pottery technology. +2 Food in this city, +1 Gold and +1 Production from each Farm worked by this city. 10% of Food is carried over after a new citizen is born (stacks with Aqueduct).

Gordon Hamilton
The first President of the modern Federal Republic of Tumbra, Gordon Hamilton also leads Tumbra in NationStates V. Serving as Commander of the Tumbran Army in the late Tumbran Empire, he and a secret group of other high-ranking members and intellectuals plotted to wage a war against the Empire to overthrow it — and found in its place a republic. A brutal twelve-year civil year followed, during which Hamilton served as both Commander-in-chief of the forces of the Federal Republic and President. Emerging victorious, Hamilton spent the last few years of his Presidency rebuilding the Tumbran economy, and was instrumental in constructing miles of railways that would later serve as the bedrock of Tumbra's economic growth. Despite a lifelong career in the military, Hamilton detested war and always preferred diplomacy as the preferred means of communication between states. His leader ability, Founder of the Republic, reflects this belief; gaining an extra Diplomatic policy slot after the Constitution civic is researched, while in war with a more militaristic civ, gaining a boost to the production of units. The Black Brigade, Tumbra's unique unit, were instrumental in Hamilton winning in several sieges; notably, the sieges of Nantwich, Kingsbury and Tavistock were all won with the Black Brigade's constant artillery fire. Renowned for their sharpness in accuracy and rapid turnaround in firing, the Black Brigade is cheaper and stronger than the Cannon it replaces, and is able to fire on the same turn as setting up.

LEADER ABILITY: Founder of the Republic
Gain one extra Diplomatic policy slot in any Government after the Constitution civic is researched. +50% production for buildings in the Industrial district. After a war is declared on any Civ with more Military policy slots than it, or after war is declared on it by any Civ with more Military policy slots than it, gain 100% production towards units for the next ten turns. Gain the Black Brigade unique unit after the Chemistry technology is researched.

LEADER AGENDA: Liberty, Justice and Peace
Dislikes civilisations with the Monarchy type of Government, or the type of Government with the most Military policy slots in each tier. Likes civilisations with the Republic type of Government, or Governments with the most Diplomatic policy slots.

UNIQUE UNIT: Black Brigade
Replaces the Field Gun unit. Unlocked with Fortification. Cheaper (20%) and stronger (+10 Ranged strength) than the Cannon unit it replaces. Can fire on the same turn after setting up.

6 point away window will prove to have 'major consequences' on the group's final table

Banijans dance after huge road win against Eura in World Cup Qualifying takes them back to the top of the table

BASTION, EURA- This was always going to be the toughest matchup of the World Cup Qualifying campaign, and it was always going to be the toughest 2 game window of this campaign. "Whenever you have a window where both games are away from home, well- it's going to be an extremely challenging one." Said the national team's manager, Pam Scott. "To navigate a team successfully through the challenges of World Cup Qualifying and all the way to the Finals is an extremely difficult, very delicate task- no matter what your nation is ranked. This country knows that more than most. So going into this match, behind Eura in the table on goal differential, with both teams playing at the peak of their powers- well, it was always going to be a fantastic contest."

Eura, by many measures, are probably under-ranked. To say that they are just 25th in the world ignores the pedigree that comes with the Eura NT. They've long been Rushmore's powers, have one of the biggest (and richest) soccer leagues in the multiverse, and have won the most difficult trophy to win in all of sports- they have won the World Cup. There's a certain weight and caliber that comes with the name, a name like Eura. So for a nation like them to be in Pot 2 for World Cup Qualifying?Well, you would want to do your best to avoid them- but we could not. And throughout qualifying, they've been playing in a way that lives up to their names. Through their first 9 games, they've dropped points just once, just like the Kadongo Kamu. A 3-3 home draw against Canadian Dominion the only spot on an otherwise would-be perfect record, they've won 7 games in a row to get to this point.

And there's a reason that, although we both have 25 points entering the match, they are ahead of us on goal differential. They entered the game with 30 goals scored(top of the group) and only 10 goals allowed(tied for best in the group). And, well- we were pot 1. We have 25 points, although their +20 goal differential had ours beat, which was +15. Throw in home field advantage for the Eurans- and this was an impossible game to try and pick. Backed by the roar of 110,000 Eurans at their back(and LITERALLY millions more at home), they were able to start the game on the front foot. But while they had the majority of possesion and chances in the first 20 or so minutes, the game's opening goal would be well against the run of play.

Gereh Kama dispossessing Robshaw in the center of the pitch sent the Banijans on the counter-attack, with just all sorts of players flying forward. It would be the wingback on the right side, Tairu Conateh, who would actually get up the pitch, while trailing the play, and get the first goal. After Kama's passed had been sent to Ikpeazu down the line, she had crossed it towards a streaking Wesoloski-Okafor. Sherwood was first to the ball, but he got the clearance all wrong, as Conateh collected the ball around the 18. He simply stepped around Gates, who had come sliding in, and then hit the ball, with pace and purpose, on the ground towards the bottom far corner. A diving Hammond could not get far enough over in time, and Banija's right back had the opening goal of the game.

1-0 to the Banijans. Who wouldn't want to be in that position? But we said earlier that this goal had been against the run of play. And a team like Eura, if they keep getting some good chances, they are eventually going to punish you for them. And it would be Alex Sharp who would score the game's opening goal. After a sustained period of possesion, a series of quick passes was able to get a timed short run from Sharp, where he got behind the defense and in front of the goalkeeper. Cool of a cucumber, the latest in a great generation of Sharps to play for team Eura, he calmly chipped the ball over the head of Banija's captain. All Wanda could do was watch and flail, as the 43rd minute equalizer brought this game level at the half.

And in the second half, it would be the Eurans who would come forward and get their second of the contest, to take the lead for the first time all night. Eura's got stars everywhere- Alex Sharp, Robson, the ever-fiery Bobby Malone. But why not look to the guy who was hailed as a former wunderkid? That's right- Adam Woodman. Formerly promised to be the next great thing of Euran football, he's a fixture in the starting XI for the NT- which is an impressive feat, when you consider that they've probably got more professional footballers than any country in the world, sans Nephara. But they don't say you're going to be the 'next great thing' just as a member of the starting XI. The expectation is that he'd be the first name on the team sheet, the face of the NT. He hasn't quite reach those rareified heights.

At 27 and in his prime, he's going to be integral in any Euran team that makes a deep run in an international tournament, whether at the Copa Rushmori or at the World Cup itself. But it's unlikely, at this point, that he'd be the face of such a team. But Woodman was going to remind everybody exactly why he was so heralded- a flash of all the brilliant potential he had shown for years as a youngster. It was actually a great piece of team work, with Bobby Malone playing what was supposed to be an overhead ball, in on goal. But he overhit it- and Woodman had to sprint down to the corner flag to gather it, rather than towards the 18. Most guys would've simply given up on that ball for the goal kick- but his trademark effort was rewarded. He got there, and then was brilliant with the ball. His stepover move left Sohna Kolley flailing at nothing but air, as he ran down the touchline towards goal. As another defender approached he passed the ball to Alex Sharp, and then ran back towards the top of the box. Sharp held the ball, giving Woodman enough time to get behind him, and then simply laid off a backheel. He hit the ball, first time, curling towards the top corner at the far post.

An absolutely brilliant finish. Wanda got so much air on her dive, but the shot was too good- not even Gentle Breeze would've had a chance in hell. "A goal of the highest quality- not many could produce a bending finish like that one!" Said our own TV commentator. And the 56th minute strike gave Eura their first lead on the night, a slim, 2-1 lead. But the game was far from over. And Pam Scott had a few tricks up her sleeve. She used a double substitution to get things going. She brought on the teenager, Opio Ssambwa, who is just 18, to serve as a left back for Sohna Kolley. And then, it was Sergius Atieno who came on for Gereh Kama. And as the game got rolling again, the substitutes were making an impact.

Eura was, as many would expect more willing to cede possesion in order to organize themselves on defense- but daring runs by Atieno, and more importantly, marauding runs from the back from Ssambwa, were able to ensure diagonal runs got in to really carve through and put pressure on the Eurans. Ssambwa, of course, meant that the Banijans were functionally switching to a back 3- but as they were chasing a goal, there would be plenty of pressure on Banija's centerbacks. After a 63rd minute counter-attack saw a brilliant opportunity for Bobby Malone to double the home team's lead(although the fired up winger hit the shot into the 5th row), Scott brought on Spartangrad CB Adin Wasawo for Idi Dabo- get some more pace at the center back spot.

The Banijans kept bringing on the pressure, and in the 72nd minute, we broke through. With some one touch passing, we got a cross, on the ground, to Wesoloski-Okafor, who received the ball at the penalty spot. The dual-national hit a rocket, first time, into the top corner- and suddenly, a point was in sight. But we had our sights set on a lot more than a lone point. Momodou Jassey, in Banija's final sub of the game, came on for Tijan Sowe, and the renewed energy urged the Banijans on forward. It wouldn't take so long, as some brilliant passing allowed Sergius Atieno to score what was essentially a tap-in, after a fantastic ball from their 18 year old wingback, Opio Ssambwa.

The 79th minute goal gave the Banijans a 3-2 lead. And with that lead, we were able to put a stranglehold on the game. Remember what we said earlier about giving a team like Eura too many chances? We tightened up considerably towards the end, as we suffocated their attack, and put on a clinic in trying to kill off the game at the end. Passing the ball around, possesing it in the corner, etc... Although Wesoloski-Okafor had a wide open header that he missed in the 87th to try and make it 4-2. Final whistle blew, and the Banijans had won 3-2, which meant that they were back at the top of the table at the halfway mark.

What a game between two excellent teams- and what a way for the Banijans to ensure that they'd take all the spoils. A group that was, at the moment, leaning in favor of Eura, had suddenly swung back ferociously in favor of the Banijans. Their next game was on the road against the Canadian Dominion, but there was no letdown- the team was dominant in a 6-2 drubbing. "That 6 point window- beautiful." Pam Scott told reporters. "Always what we want to see. But Qualifying is not a sprint- it is a marathon. We've got to get up and keep doing what we're doing." The 6 points on the road were huge, as now we lead the group with 31 points- Eura sit at 2nd with 28, Krytenia behind them with 27, and Geektopia behind them with 24. Those 4 will finish top 4- but the order, of course, is the mystery.

Banija will return home for a qualifier against Indusse at Mavuto Field in Hoima, before traveling to Anaia for an extremely tough away match with Krytenia, as part of the next window. A home win for Krytenia would really spark what would likely be a photo finish between Banija, Eura, Krytenia, and Geektopia for the group's WC and playoff spots. A draw for Banija would probably be the goal, as even one point can maintain distance. But a win for Banija would probably nearly ensure that there's no way this team doesn't at least make the World Cup Qualification playoffs. Of course, that's easier said than done.

WCQ Group 4- Chalk Zone

Of course, we find ourselves in a group full of chalk. That's right- our World Cup Qualifying group is a chalkzone.

Pot 1 Banija: 10 wins, 1 draw. No losses, first place. But wait...
Pot 2 Eura: 9 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. Only loss to Pot 1 Banija. Not that odd, right? But wait...
Pot 3 Krytenia: 9 wins, 2 losses. Only losses to Pot 1 Banija and Pot 2 Eura. Now it's weird, right? But...
Pot 4 Geektopia: 8 wins, 3 losses. Only losses to Pot 1 Banija, Pot 2 Eura, and Pot 3 Krytenia.

Gotta go for the betting favorites, eh? What a group. Once there's an upset among the top 4 (there WILL be one eventually, right?) that's when things will really start to spark in this group. Krytenia's got the first crack at it, with their home game against Banija in this upcoming window, right?

Western United trash Tamaria Strikas at Maunga Sports Arena

Most people do not understand the significance of this fixture, to truly understand and appreciate this match lets go back to the beginning.

Western United and Tamaria Strikas share a common history together. Western United and Tamaria Strikas are club from the State of Salamasina. The biggest club in the state is ofcourse Western United. It is the most popular club in the state.

In the early days of United's existence the club was unable to compete against the big clubs of the day in Ainheim Dynamos and Red Falcons. Finding talent was very difficult at this moment in history, clubs would have to outspend each other on the available talent to be successful in the top league. Western United was unable to do this, its only saving grace was Tamaria Football Academy ( present day Tamaria Strikas). Tamaria Strikas provided cheap talented players to Western United. Tamaria Strikas was founded in 1918 a year after Western United as a reserve side for United. The Academy begun in Teuila but eventually moved in 1924 to Tamaria. Even though the Academy moved it continued to serve Western United. In the late 1930s the Academy would cut ties with United after being allegedly paid by Red Falcons to become professional. This started the animosity between the two clubs. The animosity was made worse when Tamaria Strikas controversially beat Western United in the ZFF Cup 3 goals to 1 in the ZFF Cup. The ref seemed to have favoured the Tamarians.

Last season after Tamaria Strikas was promoted, Western United had the chance of getting back at the Strikas. In the first round of the league, Tamaria travelled to Western United. The match was an exciting thriller that saw 8 goals scored, Amawashindi came up on top 5 -3 to Tamaria Strikas. United had been down 3 goals to nil after 20 minutes had been played but they showed character and heart to come back and an embarassing defeat. However, when United travelled to Tamaria Strikas they where unable to push off Strikas of the top of the table but instead lost 3 goals to 1, a goal line which reminded Amawashindi of the embarassing ZFF Cup final lose in 2019.

On matchday 1 both clubs failed to register wins. If both sides where to challenge for the title they had to beat each other. Tamaria Strikas as winners of the last campaign where a must beat team for Western United. Western United as a team that had dominated the top flight for years where a team that if beaten by Tamaria Strikas would prove to Strikas fans, players and doubters that their club has the quality and ability to keep the title in Tamaria.

In front of a crowd of 9000 at Maunga Sports Arena, on a sunny Saturday afternoon the match kicked off between the two rivals. Both sides had chances in the first couple of minutes but they where all off-target. Kiwini Mano was especially ruthless in his attacks and how he got past the Tamarian defenders. The Tamarians where only saved by their effective offside trap which had 2 goal Kiwini Mano goals ruled as offside.Kiwini's brilliance in the first half was only a little taste of what he would do in the second-half.

After the half time recess, Amawashindi turned on the pressure on Tamaria Strikas. Tamaria Strikas' defense stood strong but eventually United broke the deadlock. Victor John crossed the ball to John Nyasulu who headed the ball but his close range effort was pused away by Amiri Karaka, however , Kiwini Mano scored in the follow up to put Amawashindi up by 1 goal. Western United soon lost concentration and conceded a penalty which Barlett easily put in the back of the net to bring the game level.

Tamaria Strikas where clearly struggling whilst United where frustrated at not being able to score. A mistake from Karaka after he scuffed a pass to Kiwini would lead to Strikas conceding again.

The Tamaria Strikas goalkeeper would make matter worse after repeating the same mistake moments later, passing to Nyasulu closer to goal, and his simple chip was headed home by Jere to make it 1 - 3. Nyasulu would compound the embarrassment by scoring in the 83rd minute.

The game would end 1 - 4 in favour of United.
