Cleansing the Blight

Major 2022-09-23


Blight removal: before and after glow up

In the aftermath of recent battles, while the bulk of the horde had moved on in their wake they left large swathes of land blighted - corrupted and desecrated by the taint of the darkspawn. Under the direction of First Warden Grea Kriopia the Wardens together with their allies plotted how to best cleanse these lands of their taint. "We can cover more ground if we split up into teams," she declared decisively. Taking stock of number of forces present she continued, " 3 teams it is then. New Makasta and Lieutenant Quebecshire, you're with me we'll head north. Constable Varax you're a mage right? Think you can cast a few spells to help cleanse this taint?" *Varax nods* "Very good then, you head off with Warden Thedaria then. Thedaria, I want you to help look for survivors and holdouts amongst this wreckage, help them with whatever they need." She turned next to the others. "Icarus and Raziel you two head south. Warden Wolflandil I need you to help some of the residents rebuild in the next town over, I heard they got hit pretty bad, go see what's up there." With that the teams went out their separate ways.

The tainted lands still attracted all manner of foul things with its corruption along with a few straggling darkspawn. Along the north path the team encountered an ogre. Fortunately the ogre wasn't very bright. Grea Kriopia threw a stone to distract the ogre. With its back turned Quebecshire fired an arrow into the creature while Makasta moved to flank and deliver the finishing blow. After that the trek north continued apace relatively unhindered. Meanwhile Varax casted her spells to sanctify the lands and cleanse the corruption. While looking for survivors Thedaria found a group that was holed up in a structure with a group of darkspawn stragglers bearing down on them. Varax came to assist with a spell that scattered and knocked the darkspawn off balance, allowing Thedaria to come in and finish them off. The survivors thanked the brave Wardens for giving them their homestead back. On the trek south the team there encountered some undead but it too was nothing they couldn't handle and victory came easy. Meanwhile Warden Wolflandil helped rebuild an orphanage destroyed by a rage demon before joining back up with the others.

As the day drew to a close the Wardens and their allies met back up at camp. "98 regions cleansed, a fine day's work," the First Warden noted. As they looked around a sense of calm and peace had returned to the lands once again.

As First Warden, I'm thrilled to announce the immediate promotion of Thedaria to Warden-Lieutenant

Thed joined TGW nearly two months ago with an already respected reputation in defending and a love of chasing after serving as a TITO tactical officer for some time. You might recognize them with their everpresent "Swordandshield" nations during update as now one of TGW's top chasers and most consistent updaters, showcasing their dedication to defending and undeniable skill that they bring into the Lieutenants position. Not only that, but Thed has also flexed their many other skills by digging into The Order's recruitment and leading updates within Libcord and assisting in the planning of future cultural events as any well-rounded powerhouse would.

These kind of things plus Thed's previous experience were an exciting prospect for a promotion that Command knew was only a matter of time. I know from working with Thed in the past that they'll excel as a Lieutenant and cannot wait to see how they contribute to TGW more

You ever have those things where sometimes you'd rather crawl in a hole for six months than do them? I'm talking the tedious, brain-numbing tasks that you really don't want to do and you put them off as long as possible. You know, like, cleaning up that one thing you forgot about a week or so ago or having to sit on hold for customer service to fix some minor inconvenience or writing an awkward email to someone you don't like. You know what I mean. The. worst.

It's kinda like that one time I tried to make Matthew write a report and he really didn't want to. Or that time I tried to tell Quebec to use Puree's list generator and he really didn't want to. Or like asking defenders to pay attention to EoGB jumping every 5 minutes when they really don't want to. Or raiders having to do their tags when they really didn't want to.

Anyway, it seems like sweeze really didn't want to do her tags so I'm glad we have that in common since we didn't want her to do them either. Made our lives easier and for a breezy night of major detags

Fueled by the new blood offerings by Tech Moderators like Roavin and Aav, the hamsters powered through an actually stable major update. As our favorite Training AI Lily showed up to dominate what was expected to be a tumultuous major update, we rallied back and forced stability out of the Tiktok Chaos. Seeing our path through the vortex, The Grey Wardens and our friends ensured that there wouldn't be a signification addition to plethora of untagged regions with lingering Lily ROs already visible in the mix.

Tell me you don't understand the technicalities of chasing in modern R/D without telling me you don't understand the technicalities of chasing in modern R/D. If you're making 0s-1s chases, how much time does that leave to read what region you're going to or actually scout it out? Not really any time. If you're taking that kind of time you're going to lose and lose often, good luck actually getting any sizeable amount of defends doing that.

You'll notice that Lily themselves who we were defending against actually understand this being invested R/Ders themselves and aren't coming at us trying to score political points in this way. I know it's hard to understand these things from an armchair. If you actually tried it yourself you might even understand.

As far as how other regions feel about it, I don't know maybe let them speak for themselves?

yeah, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining it. The thought of accidentally defending a fash region sucks but I agree if only getting a very limited time when chasing, it would be bound to happen. Imagine that being a tactic for raider regions to start tossing in a few fash regions here and there almost forcing defenders to defend them.
