The situation with the farmers up north is heating as the collective “will not retreat” from their claims to take up territory of the Royal Kingdom of Québec despite that, in cartography, is being considered as “terra nulis” (without owner) and the fact that there’s claims from the Québécois government considering that the actions of the farmers are “an outright violation of the Québécois border limits”. There’s a lot to solve and parts are far from reaching a neutral point. That’s why we will focus the critical points by side and conclude about this.
Farmers: after the oil prospections and drillings in the department of Sechura, the farmers have alleged that their crops have been contaminated with “high presence of oil and toxins” down the phreatic caps in the soil. This has forced them to seek assistance from the Central Government, which according to the farmers “have treated them with disdain, disinterest and lack of proposals to solve the situation.” The farmers have decided to move forward with a plan to occupy Québécois lands to keep producing.
Government of Huayramarca: the parliament has been discussing about the treatment of this situation in a moderate way, as they have not increased the military presence in the border, yet they have been in talks with the Québécois government in order to address the situation by creating a blockade to the farmers. Although, the Palacio del Altiplano hasn’t stated any plan to retribute the loses of the farmers, nor a plan to resettle them has been given. Environmentalists warn that the situation is still able to be reversed, hence it’s a duty that can be given to scientists to make sure that no further damage will occur and that the land could be used for farming again.
Government of Québec the northern neighbour has decided to increase military and police presence in the border, threatening the farmers to immediate deportation and entry bans for 5 years in case they try to force their entry to Québec. There hasn’t been any discussions about a potential support for the farmers, but there are rumours that the Huayramarcan government could ask for support in order to clean the contaminated areas and regain farming capabilities. Also, their government is in a court already trying to solve the situation.
Conclusion: This mess is far away from being solved, there’s need to sit down and talk in order to reach agreements.
