NFL teams are not particularly well known for caring about legal baggage. Watson forfeits his pay for the time he's suspended. The only real negative effects on the Browns are a minor reputation hit, and having to use their backup QB for the duration of Watson's suspension.
He actually isn’t losing much money (relative to the contract, anyway)- his contract was designed with the suspension in mind. He has 1 million in base salary this season. That jumps up to 46 million per year in the following four, but for now he’s only gonna be losing game checks that are part of that 1 million.
