INQUEST into ISKANDRIAN HEALTH
It is clear that the 'Simurghs' are subject to...
... something...
but they have complied readily with the anti-doping inquest, submitting to a full medical on each player. They themselves seem quite unaware as to the 'true' cause of these defects, but have universally welcomed them, attributing all to the mysterious 'Glory'.

ARDASHIR, C: No signs of abnormality.
BLAKE, C: Sudden-onset alopecia.
BOWMAN, A: Small, reptilian tail beginning to grow.
CASIMIR, A: No signs of abnormality.
KADHIM, S: Seems to blur slightly at all times.
KAMARANDAN, T: Chartreuse eyes, with no whites or pupil.
KARAPETYAN, O: No signs of abnormality.
LATHAM, J: Dodgy ankle.
MAJERLE, N: No signs of abnormality.
MAURTUA, Y: Has invested into cryptocurrency.
MKRTCHYAN, B: No signs of abnormality.
NAJJARINE, R: Puddle of meat jelly. Has been left in cryotherapy chamber to 'reconstitute'. Progress slow.
PETROSIAN, K: Vestigial third eye growing in centre of forehead.
PYRITE, Y: Has lost the ability to read.
RESAN, M: No signs of abnormality.
REZAEI, S: Teeth sharp, pointed. Diet of raw meat.
ROUHANI, A: Skin sloughing off. Odd 'melted candle' look.
SAIGHANI, O: Teeth fallen out.
SCHMIDT, R: No signs of abnormality.
STUBBS, V: No signs of abnormality.
SULAKA, C: Chartreuse eyes. Fanatical demeanour.
TABASI, H: Chartreuse eyes.
TARKANIAN, C: Reportedly has not slept in weeks.
TURNBULL, Y: Curiously long tongue.
VOSKANYAN, A: Owing to long time spent in Farfadillis, abnormalities only to be expected.
XERXES, L: Chartreuse eyes, with no whites or pupil.

Conclusion
While it's clear that...
... something...
is going on, and Iskandrian results have certainly been unusually good, it cannot be concluded that they have received any competitive advantage from this. It is curious that the effects seem more marked on domestically-based players, aligning with theory that this is something inherent to Iskandervale itself. Monitor carefully, but no action required at present.

The KFA's Historians Have Done it Again

Going back to the first days of nationwide football on the islands, the KFA's historians have completed a huge and daunting task. The first one was finding the tables and results of all seasons going back decades and decades, to the point that full records were barely available. The second was to judge if the tables were complete, and if they were about a nationwide league at the top of the pyramid. The third was to compile all of these into a single table.

And then a fourth one popped up: some of the old clubs can be traced directly, through renaming and moving from stadium to stadium through the ages. This one put to bed some of the claims that 'old' clubs made, such as that Jeknolr really did feed into your little amateur team at some point. We now have the answer: yes they did, OV Eekeinde, and we hope to see you among the pro teams once again.

Going through the renames and tracing each club's lineage back to the early days would be a fun project by itself, but right now we are to stand in awe and look at the table.

You get no points for correctly guessing the team in first. Or the second, or the third, or fourth. Maethoru SC was our first big name in the UICA days, and they've been stringing together titles since the start. Branvon CD's proud history kept them from sliding - and did you know that Branvon are the other team to play the most matches at the highest level? Now, both clubs weren't at the first two seasons of nationwide play, so we have no clubs that can claim to have played everything there is.

Tanques AOE and Katashi-Kanatsu are third and fourth, with Tanques AOE facing some struggles in modern times. After that we get our first club that never reappeared at the top level since the current pyramid is in place: Liju (now: Arendsvlucht FC). A now amateur team that can call itself the 5th best team of the archipelago.

Advance Alara, Cirelbourne United, Schemerdrecht SVV, Miradela GD, Aminey CS, Straudum VV... all of your favourite names of the modern system are all there. Most of these had a predecessor: Alara, Arelothun, Schemerdrecht Metropolitan, Miradela Athletic, -, and -. Aminey is here through sheer dominance of the last decade and a half. Straudum is here through about a century of middling results. Schemerdrecht and Miradela aren't all that old, but have found their place as biggest club of the region. Cirelbourne United's earlier name, Arelothun, are a different beast: you're pretty much looking at the oldest club of the country here!

For fans of Ko-orenite football that are nearing the 100: do you remember Kol, Kthosl, Norilya, Othushun, Ajongka, etc? Most of those have a modern counterpart, and once that new club makes it to the top 12, their names will be replaced with the new one. For now, though, the old names are still in. And some of these you might recognise: Norilya is what we now call Norille (in French).

To the tune of

The Second Chance

Three steps away from the goal
You could have failed sometimes, dragged on the coals
Sadness and bittersweet feelings arose
But those chapters will always close

Through the pitch-dark skies we have sailed
Tempests have occurred and here we are
Lessons learned have forged us to be what we are
We are Huayramarca and we are proud of being it!

Hey! Lift your mood up!
Life has given you a mulligan!
It is that time again
Let us do a history write-up!

Huayramarca, this is your time
Time to clean your face, time to tame
To tame the waves of the Ocean of Ayes
And aim to the stars!

When passion flourishes, oh man!
The Huayramarcan hearts beat up fast.
With the hope of scaling step by step.
Safe and sound towards the goal!

36 million hearts beating for one cause
Seeing the bicolour waving victorious
36 million cheering for one passion
Huayramarca achieving victory.

Huayramarca, this is your time
Time to clean your face, time to tame
To tame the waves of the Ocean of Ayes
And aim to the stars!

Fighting with honour and courage
Pursuing the goal relentlessly
Because this is our time
This is our second chance

Soaring like the Condor in the Mountains
Waiting for the right moment to attack
Fly, fly, fly bravely, Huayramarca!
It is the chance of a lifetime!

Level up! Level up!
Second chances are not every day’s thing
Time to rise and shine by our talent
Let us go for it!

Huayramarca, this is your time
Time to clean your face, time to tame
To tame the waves of the Ocean of Ayes
And aim to the stars!

It is the time to stop thinking
It is the time to do it for those 36 million
Stand up! Fight with courage!
Let’s soar for good in the Ko-orenite skies!

It was a close quarter final, that made almost everyone watching it nervous, but in the end a single goal was enough for Flavovespia to book their place in the CAFA Cup semi finals, for the second time in their history.

Against a Yesopalitha side known for a very highly defensive tactic, Flavovespia were going to need their fearsome front three of Michael Cole, Adrian Jones and Jonathan Bagshaw to deliver. Aarif Muhammad returned in goal, and Tony Gardner was given the spot alongside Stuart Cookson at centre back, in a key team selection.

The early exchanges were tentative with both sides sitting relatively deep. Yesopalitha were keen to keep as many behind the ball as possible, Flavovespia keen to play their direct football to try and get in behind. It was like a table tennis match, with the ball being lofted forward often, only to be returned swiftly. Yeospalitha had the best chance of the first half, but Qhesserris was not able to put their chance out of reach of Aarif Muhammad. At the other end of the pitch, it was an unusually quiet day for Cole and Bagsahw, and Jones had put a few headers wide, when he was actually able to make contact.

The initial momentum in the second half was the way of Flavovespia. Jonathan Bagshaw forced a fine save out of A'th'l Mik'O'Si within 5 minutes after the game restarted, and Adrian Jones was looking a lot more lively. But Flavovespia couldn’t make the early wave of pressure count, and Yesopalitha were able to regain composure without conceding. In the 77th minute, as the game seemed to be drifting towards extra time, the breakthrough finally came through. Jonathan Bagshaw cut inside from the right, and had faced up to shoot. Instead, he rolled the ball across the box and from a tight angle, Michael Cole beat A'th'l Mik'O'Si and struck home. It was a crucial goal, and despite Yesopalitha’s frantic attacks at the end, Flavovespia held on to win.

The win sets up a semi final for Flavovespia, and it’s a rematch against Iskandervale, back in Aminey. This one won’t be anywhere near as relaxed as the previous encounter, as the two sides seek a first appearance in the CAFA Cup final. Who will take the next step towards the trophy?
Formerly the Republic of Greater Waldster, internationally known as Greater Watford. IC It's a long story (OOC I didn't like using real place names)

Album Release Party Halted for Football Game

At least 30 onlookers (including friends and family of the band members) found themselves rudely interrupted in the second-largest room of West Abingdon Community Hall while celebrating the Ko-orenite release of Audio versus Ko-oren's eighth studio album 'Flies Against'. In the middle of ‘Post Football Steals Your Home (Railroad Railroad Railroad Railroad)’, football fans watching in the venue's backroom first interrupted the serene performance by yelling and cheering, before pausing the music entirely to show Carreiro's debut goal for the Dragonflies in the 1-0 victory over the Bulls. Without as much as a cinematic *record scratch*, the music stopped and the match took over the projector and the speakers.

Image
The offending moment, the Enokida tackle - From: Lutaetia Stumblefaller, friend of Ko vs Audio drummer

What they saw - at least, a replay of it - was how Borthwell launched a shot from outside the box, deflected by Volonte, rolling across the goal line - or just when you thought the ball crosses the line, Creighton gets a paw on it and swats it back into the field of play. A fan blows a whistle (while others get an entire f-ck off brass band going) in appreciation/celebration/anticipation of the goal and/or referee decision, Borthwell started his celebration, arms outstretched, running towards the corner flag. The linesman didn't indicate anything, and neither did the referee, so Flat, closest to the action, lobs the ball towards midfield, anywhere, as long as it was away from goal. Borthwell, Masuda, and Uozomi now join in celebration, while half the Bulls defence flock the referee to appeal against the decision. A decision that the ref hadn't exactly taken yet. Cappadonna, at the receiving end of the last-ditch recovery effort on the line, gets dispossessed by Enokida, the only Ko-orenite midfielder still paying attention - in a way that surely would have resulted in a booking for Enokida, had the Audioslavians now not crowded the referee's vision. Not sure what to do next, Enokida finds the only player on the Audioslavian half still paying attention to the game - Carreiro. Cappadonna grabs him by the ankle milliseconds later as the duo bicker it out on the grass.

In possession, with no defender in sight, as Creighton sprints back to his line, Carreiro puts the ball in the net for good measure, and joins his teammates in the corner of the field, lifting Borthwell as if he was the one who scored the goal. The stadium screens show Carreiro's name as the goalscorer while the Bulls get the kickoff going. They now had some 75 minutes to repair the damage.

The projector goes back to showing the album's cover art and some moody landscape photography while the music drones on.

Audioslavia wouldn't repair the damage.

The music was alright. Three stars out of five - one star for every star on the Bulls' and Dragonflies' jerseys together. Not as good as their second album.

To the tune of

Huayramarcan Condor
Corageous and brave
It is the time to fly high in the sky

Huayramarcan Condor
Always soaring across the skies
With your majestic flight!

Huayramarcan Condor
Majestic and legendary
Be our hope inside our souls!

Huayramarcan Condor
Strong and free
Shine across the Anaian skies!

Do not let anybody…
Intimidate you ever
Nor hide your talent
Today is the day
To make history
To the tune of this song!

Huayramarcan Condor
Always resolute on battle
Proud of the highlands

Huayramarcan Condor
The time has come
To show your strength

Without fear nor shyness
Show to the world your will
Show to the world your ability
To settle for once
That your legend
Is for real and immortal

Huayramarcan Condor
Soar victoriously in the skies
Like our bicolour flag.

Huayramarcan Condor
Never hides, never surrenders
Always fights for victory.

This time is no exception
Passion is strong
The red blood running in our veins
Our hearts pounding fast
For you to being our hope
For you to win!

Huayramarcan Condor
The crowd chants Ole, Ole!
In Ko-orenite lands

Huayramarcan Condor
It is your time
To prove the pundits wrong

36 million souls
Supporting you through clear or dark skies
Always there
Today is the day
To have a date with history
Let us write it!

Huayramarcan Condor
Legendary and epic
Tales turned into reality

Huayramarcan Condor
Get ready to beat them all
Use your legendary power

It is the time
To take control of the skies
With your majestic wings
To soar over the mountains
And display
How you rule the mountains

Huayramarcan Soul
Be free, be victorious
Never be afraid of anything

Huayramarcan Soul
Always ready for battle
We will always fight.

Let us show it again
Let us write a new chapter
Of bright and epic moments
Written in golden letters

Flavovespia’s storming victory over Iskandervale may well go down in history as one of their most famous games, and not just because they secured an appearance in the final of the CAFA Cup. A sublime attack tore through the defence of Iskandervale, in a performance where the front three showed their full skills.

Fans were barely sat down for the start of the game before Adrian Jones opened the scoring. Michael Cole played the ball across goal, and Jones was there to fire past Hansa Tabasi. Despite the early goal, the first half was fairly even until the last minutes. Yazdegerd Turnbull had clearance charged down by Jonathan Bagshaw, who then took aim and doubled the lead not long before the break.

After the break, only one side came out fully firing. 49 minutes in, and David Lyons’ early cross was headed towards goal by Adrian Jones. It didn’t look the most powerful of headers, but Tabasi misread the direction and the ball flew over the line. Michael Cole would then got on the scoreboard in the 55th minute, scoring after a corner that seemed to bounce around the box before Cole got it over the line. On the hour mark, he’d then turn in the free-kick from Kieron Player, making it 5-0, Flavovespia flying into the final.

Faint hopes of an Iskandervale revival came in the 64th minute, when veteran Artak Voskanyan headed in the cross of Nasir Majerle. However in the 70th minute, Flavovespia finished off their scoring, when Jonathan Bagshaw absolutely smashed the ball in on the half volley from just outside the box. The shot was so quick and powerful Tabasi barely saw it before it hit the net, almost taking it off its foundations. On the brink of injury time, Cass Ardashir would score from a corner, but it was scant consolation in the circumstances.

Flavovespia were into their first ever final, a brilliant occasion for the nation. Now, in Aminey, the last opponent between them and the trophy were the side Flavovespia played their first ever international against, the host nation Ko-oren. The hosts and top ranked nation in the regional rankings before the tournament, Ko-oren will be fired up to win this at home, but Flavovespia will hope to make it 8 unbeaten games to write their name in the history books.

Previewing... the upcoming Top League Season!

Season 40 is upon us! After a few remodels, and now the addition of snazzy branding (added during season 39) the Top League has nested itself among the top domestic competitions of the Multiverse. We don't care how long it took us to get there: we're here now, and that's what matters. Household names like Maethoru, Straudum, and Aminey are now internationally known. Foreign football fans are starting to pick favourites, based on colours, cities, or that a player they like transfers there: did you know there are now 36 foreigners active in the Top League? That's three per team, with Miradela claiming five of them, while Straudum and Maethoru currently only have one each.

The new addition to the Top League is Sterrenwolde, so we're getting a strong northern flavour between them, Straudum, and Schemerdrecht. We're saying goodbye to Arboren, and if they had won three more games, that would have been the fourth northern team.

Some gaps that need to be filled, after the end of the transfer window:

Top Three

ImageMaethoru SC: no foreign players in the starting 11, and any players that wants to make it in there has to be seriously good. If anything, the defence looks like it needs improving. Their depth is awful, by the way. Best fit: David Lyons, Flavovespia.

ImageAminey CS: the tricky three-striker system has only improved more and more in the last half-decade to the point of winning a title. They could use a striker - or a centre forward who can operate from somewhere else than the middle - or some depth. Best fit: Michael Cole, Flavovespia.

ImageStraudum VV: the all-defensive unit has sold a few key players but it's by no means a step back. A winger or midfielder would do them good. Or depth. That'll be a theme going forward. Best fit: Chace Salazar, Legalese and Savannah Quinn, Krytenia.

IFCF Hopefuls

ImageSchemerdrecht SVV: much improved and in a very healthy place. Looking at the weirdly put together roster from a few years ago, it seemed impossible that this would be possible, but a long term vision can do a lot if given time. Any new input should be on the right side of the defence, but again: they'd have to be insanely good. Best fit: Lucy Featherborn, Ochre Islands.

ImageKatashi-Kanatsu: holding on through old glory more than new blood, the midfield is looking a little thin, but again, not that thin. Best fit: Efineha Tesuna'e or Valeri Tyonko, Aleirave.

ImageMiradela GD: on the way up since their stock plummeted after the championship window slammed shut, they're still a striker short. Efnakian Kaddaske should do them good in defence for now. Best fit: Joey Muir, Legalese.

ImageWSR AFC: the first non-original top 12 club to become a contender, they also need a striker. Otherwise, it's a strangely strong team made up of youth rejects, failed buys, and all the talent that has shunned Maynard. Their depth is more than alright, but maybe a defensive midfielder could do. Best fit: David Clark, Flavovespia.

ImageAdvance Alara: hard to call them a hopeful after the past two seasons, but the team (on paper) is a strong one. Depth and the fullback positions are a weakness, especially on a team that likes to attack over the wings. Best fit: Santiago Chumacero, Huayramarca.

Relegation Avoiders

ImageTanques AOE: they're not entirely back after their second division stint. The midfield is awesome, the defence not (yet). They might be an IFCF Hopeful, not sure. Best fit: Louis D'Entro, Ochre Islands and Sonny Chiesa, Krytenia.

ImageGehrenna FC: this is the first roster with actual gaps: the midfield isn't exactly all there. Best fit: Seth Rezaei, Iskandervale.

ImageBranvon CD: struggling to find decent replacements for the players that leave every year, fullbacks and attacking midfielders - basically everything with an attacking impetus - need work. Best fit: Tara Number, Mertagne. Worst case scenario is that Branvon relegate and Number moves on to one of the top three in a year's time.

ImageSterrenwolde FC: they just promoted, so staying up is the struggle. The defence isn't fantastic, the midfield isn't fantastic. They're not far behind, but they're behind. Best fit: Joshua Quispe, Huayramarca.

Hang on, there might have been something more important to preview. I'll get to it.

From the diary of Marek Lemish

It’s all my fault.

It’s all my fault. There is nobody else to blame for this defeat other than myself. I brought this, all of this, upon the rest of the team. They put their hopes on me to carry us through, and I failed them all. It’s all my fault.

We were all disappointed when the team found out that our defeat to Audioslavia had knocked us out of the running for the CAFA Cup itself, but we had the chance to make up for it by becoming the best of the rest. This particular edition of the CAFA Cup had decided that it would have two different competitions, one for the Cup itself and another for the classification of the teams in 9th to 16th place. The Federal Republic had ended up in 9th place in the initial competition rankings thanks to those losses against Iskandervale and Audioslavia, and our mission had become to retain that 9th place as much as possible.

The first team standing in the way of the team achieving that mission was Mertagne. I will admit that I do not know enough about them to make a judgment as to their team’s abilities like I have done with the likes of Starblaydia, Osarius, and Huayramarca, but from what I have seen on my brief forays into the Internet, it would appear that Mertagne are themselves a forces to be reckoned with, if not yet exactly on the same level as the likes of Starblaydia, Osarius, and Audioslavia. Thus it was really no surprise that they took the lead against us quickly even if we were supposed to be the “better” team, if the rankings were to be believed. Once again, if it weren’t for Fabian Prasutagusic, our journey would have come to an end within ninety minutes, but that goal and assist of his is why he remains our best player, our talisman. He may not have intended to assist Arseniy Davydov by mistiming his swing but Senya still put the ball in the back of the net, which is the only thing that counts.

The additional thirty minutes couldn’t separate the Federal Republic and Mertagne from each other, so it came down to penalties. Mertagne took the spot kicks first, and they found the net against Slava Shchetinin on their first attempt. I was chosen to be the first taker for the Federal Republic since Fabian had been subbed off, and all eyes were now on me. The eyes and expectations of an entire nation and of two peoples were laid on me, and I failed everyone. I hit the ball too hard and sent the ball far above the crossbar.

The Mertagne players didn’t miss. And in a campaign where the Federal Republic could have covered themselves in glory even without a trophy, instead we came back home with nothing. And it’s all because of me. The entirety of this failure is on me and me alone. I have turned the Federal Republic into a laughingstock, and I fear that not even winning the CAFA Cup itself will remove that stain on the entire nation.
