Remnant National NewsGRCS Ratifies Articles Of Unification

The spokesman for the GRCS Council today announced that each of the eight member states of the Greater Remnant Cooperation Sphere have officially adopted and ratified the Articles of Unification. From this point on, the United Remnant Avtarkiya, Pragmata, Alenterra, Zhangua, Canaam, Nongea, Namavar, and Modeno are all now member states of the GRCS. The spokesman for the GRCS reported that the Articles of Unification had been in discussion for some time in the Council between the leadership of the former member nations, and only recently were the Articles finally given a draft that was amenable to the membership.
The spokesman listed out five Pillars that Unification rests upon, which will be shortly explained.
Pillar One: One Nation: The first and most pivotal pillar outlines that member states of the GRCS submit to Remnant authority by acquiescing to GRCS sovereignty. This includes accepting and following the laws, regulations, and standards of the GRCS under a single unified government, court system, law enforcement system, and legislature.
While many member states were already in varying degrees of adopting a form of Pillar One before Unification, a full ratification means that in the coming weeks and months, member states will be actively working to formally unify their states into a single cohesive government to provide order, safety, and security internally as well as represent the Remnant people externally. It is likely that a large scale reformation of the government of the GRCS will be seen in the near future, no doubt with President James Canis continuing his leadership of our people to a new era of peace and prosperity.
Pillar Two: One People: The second pillar outlines accepted standards for the people of the GRCS, such as the accepted demonym of Remnant, the recognition of citizenship for all of the 1.4 billion citizens of the former 8 separate member states, recognition of Pravilo as a national religion, Remnant Creole as a national language, recognition of multiple ethnicities and races within the GRCS, and immigration and naturalization standards.
As with many of these pillars, the influence of the URA can be felt, with Remnant influence over the other 7 states being most apparent in the adoption of largely Remnant customs and culture.
Pillar Three: One Economy: As the GRCS is now to be considered a unified, single nation, so too will the economy of the GRCS be unified. Markets of member states will be slowly unified over the coming months, as well as the adoption of the Remnant Credit as a medium of currency.
As with many of the other pillars outlined in the Articles, much of Pillar Three has already begun in the member states in fits and starts. The Remnant Credit is largely accepted throughout the GRCS, even if it wasn't officially legal tender. But now the almost entirely digital currency will be the standard medium of exchange within the GRCS, with physical currency being sparingly issued for international use and certain other limited exchange.
Pillar Four: One Strength: A total and complete reform of the military, law enforcement, and security services of the GRCS, allowing for a unified military that is more capable and efficient than its constituent forces ever could have been separately.
While most nations in the GRCS have already dissolved(In the case of Pragmata, Alenterra, Namavar), or downsized(Zhangua, Nongea, Canaam) at the behest of the superior Remnant Military, a full reformation of the military has been rumored ever since President Canis took office, and it seems the Articles of Unification are providing the perfect impetus to begin such a long-term and arduous process as unifying the law enforcement and military practices of 8 nations into one.
Pillar Five: One Heart: The Greater Remnant Cooperation Sphere will stand as a beacon of freedom and unity for all other nations to measure themselves against. All Remnant people will be finally be united with one goal, one mind, and one soul. The GRCS, founded with the blood of patriots and watered with the blood of tyrants and imperialists, will stand in solidarity with her allies in defending the peace and security of all.
It is expected that full reforms could take many months, if not years, to fully accomplish. However, with Unification now no longer a dream of Remphiles, but a reality we now live in, readers can take heart knowing these reforms will finally be taking place with enthusiasm instead of the pre-Unification hesitant starts and stops.

Guadalupador News TodayDide, Guadalupador- The Guadalupadorian Navy reported late last night that it had located and interdicted a Muqaddasi container ship travelling through Dorian territorial waters. The merchant ship was interdicted by the Guadalupadorian Navy ship GFNS Pandretus as it crossed between the islands of Malusqaya and Yugova at 00:18 (NSDT) on the 19th of July. The Muqaddasi ship, was stopped and remains within Dorian territorial waters, where it will be escorted and impounded at the nearby port city of Dide. As of this afternoon, the formal announcement of the GENA's dissolution was broadcast to the world, which brings up legal questions regarding the restriction of GENA vessels in Dorian territorial waters: As the GENA no longer exists, should the Dorian government release the container ship, or will the restriction go forward if Muqaddasia joins the successor organization to GENA?

Justice Office announces that drug trafficker's execution will proceed, despite international outcry

The Zeleniyan Government has announced, in response to international criticism, that it will proceed with the execution of Jamal Thompson, an American native to Los Angeles that was arrested five months ago while going through customs at Yelizovo Suvorov International Airport and being caught going into the country with drugs far beyond the amnesty limit, which is the known limit that, if exceeded, will automatically render someone for the death penalty.
Before he landed after hailing a Zelenavia flight from Los Angeles five months ago, agents of the Zeleniyan Federal Police Agency ran through publicly-available records of Thompson, which stated that he had recently been released from California's San Quetin State Prison after serving a five year sentence for drug dealing. After landing and breezing through the passport checkpoint at customs, Mr. Thompson would be called to Secondary Screening where Federal Agents discovered one kilogram of liquified fentanyl hidden in his baggage. Immediately he was detained and transported to the Yelizovo Metropolitan Corrections Complex where he was kept for five months to appear before a federal judge. Upon appearing before a judge five months after being detained, Mr. Thompson confessed to bringing in the fentanyl with the intent to sell, refusing to list any potential clients he had queued for future transactions. Federal Judge Ivan Petrov of the 1st Circuit handed an automatic death penalty to Jamal, stating that it is handed to him for the intentional smuggling of 1kg of fentanyl, far above the amnesty limit of 100 mcg, which requires extensive paperwork with the Justice Office and an officially sanctioned prescription approved by the Health Office, his domestic Health Agency (in this case the US Department of Health and Human Services) and a board-certified, government-sanctioned physician in Zeleniya who would keep him accountable.
For the past month, Mr. Thompson had been kept in the Death Row Section of the Yelizovo Metropolitan Corrections Complex. During this time, activists in America, particularly from the African-American Community, strongly condemned the Zeleniyan Government's treatment of Mr. Thompson, accusing the Zeleniyan Government of "arbitrary arrest" and "gross human right violations," and calling upon the United States Government to pressure the Zeleniyan Government to release him. Shea Louise Thompson, Jamal's mother, described her 24 year-old son's time in Zeleniyan prison as "torture" and "hell beyond imagination," accusing the Zeleniyan authorities of maltreatment. Protests in the form of mid-scale picketing rallies in front of the Zeleniyan Embassy of Washington, D.C. and the Consulate-Generals of Seattle, Chicago, New York and Houston, occurred throughout Mr. Thompson's detainment. The hashtag #JusticeForJamal quickly became associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and it's internationalization, with organizations such as Amnesty International and the Human Rights Commission calling for his release and repatriation back to America.
Early this morning, however, the Justice Office has formally green-lighted his execution. In a press conference, the Press Secretary of the Justice Office, Adam Barkov, stated that:
(Translated from Zeleniyan Russian) "Mr. Thompson's punishment is well-within the scope of the National Security Law, which strictly prohibits the illegal smuggling and distribution of drugs. If it were not for the vigilant uniformed men and women that detained him at the airport, that one kilogram of fentanyl would have killed over 500,000 people and have dramatically affected and ruined the lives of five times as many more colleagues, friends, significant others and loved ones. By signing his name on those [Pre-Entry Screening and Customs Declaration] forms and crossing the amnesty line at the airport without hesitation, he has indeed acknowledged his understanding of the grave consequences that come with attempting to upend the livelihoods of half a million Zeleniyans by means of drug trafficking. Drug traffickers are on the same, low level as rapists and murderers, and shall be handed the death penalty, for such deviant acts have no place to be carried out within this country. It is in this regard that we shall proceed with carrying out this sentence."
President Suvorkin, in addressing the press in his daily press conferences, added to the recent announcement in light of a flurry of international controversy that has resulted from it:
(In English) "The media and many non-Zeleniyan people have rather colorful language to describe our system here, almost as if they think they can run this country better than the people actually living here. (Chuckle) We freely welcome whatever criticism they may have, and we encourage our citizens to have this sort of conversation. The fact that this is being discussed only emphasizes the need to set examples out of people such as the criminal drug trafficker in question. In America, drug traffickers go through prison and then they are glorified by the music industry that pampers them. In Zeleniya, they have no place here, and I'm not the only one that stands by this: the people and the families of Zeleniya very much will reciprocate this same sentiment as do the victims of drug abuse and other horrific tragedies perpetrated and enabled by criminals."
Activists on twitter are strongly critical of his response, seeing that he has refused to Mr. Thompson by name but only as the "drug trafficker in question." Tamir Johnson, one of the cofounders of the activist group known on twitter as @theBlackCollective, strongly condemned President Suvorkin's brief statement:
"The fact that he spent no less than 30 seconds to not even mention Jamal by name is beyond reprehensible. #JusticeForJamal #BlackLivesMatter," wrote Johnson under the twitter handle @theBlackCollective.
A recent independent poll taken over the past week shows that an overwhelming 76% of Zeleniyans approve of Mr. Thompson's death sentence, with 15% being apathetic and around 9% being critical of the ruling. This statistic consistently falls in line with recent conversation across Zeleniyan social media, with Zeleniyans mainly condemning Jamal Thompson and expressing their support for the death penalty served upon him.

The Yelizovo Metropolitan Corrections Complex has confirmed, through social media, that it has carried out Jamal Thompson's execution by hanging "for the gross charge of drug trafficking." In addition to this announcement, the Justice Office has announced that it is in contact with the Thompson Family and that his body will be repatriated back to the United States by the end of July.

Senate Approves Bill to Sign Reichsstadt Treaty
New Rome, NRI – In a vote early July 20, the Senate approved a bill allowing the NRI to sign the Reichsstadt Treaty. This comes just hours after the target of the treaty, GENA, announced its dissolution. To counter this, an amendment was rushed onto the bill putting in verbiage that it extends onto the nations GENA labeled as “founders” as well as members of the subsequent alliances Global League of Nations (GLEN) and the yet-to-be-founded United Alliance For Defense And Cooperation (UADC).
Upon passage of the bill, the Ministry of Defense immediately released rules for Roman naval ships to interdict vessels of affected nations. There are also rumors of a bill being drafted in the Senate to authorize the use of letters of marque in accordance with this law. The Senate has the authority to issue letters or marque, though has not since the 1800s.

In addition to this announcement, the Justice Office has announced that it is in contact with the Thompson Family and that his body will be repatriated back to the United States by the end of July.
Protests break out across Meretica, beginning in Los Angeles and quickly spreading from there. The Meretican government officially condemns the planned execution and demands the immediate and unconditional overturn of the death penalty in Zeleniya.
"This is an outrage! It's a scandal!" California Governor Esther Weatherby said when she heard the news.
"It's the single most outrageous decision a country has made regarding another's citizen in my lifetime," Senator David Thoreau (22) added. "Executing another nation's citizen? What are we coming down to?"

If the Meretican Government decides to take military action then the Imperium will intervene, If Zelenyia accepts the Imperium will guarantee their independence.

During this time, activists in America, particularly from the African-American Community, strongly condemned the Zeleniyan Government's treatment of Mr. Thompson, accusing the Zeleniyan Government of "arbitrary arrest" and "gross human right violations," and calling upon the United States Government to pressure the Zeleniyan Government to release him. Shea Louise Thompson, Jamal's mother, described her 24 year-old son's time in Zeleniyan prison as "torture" and "hell beyond imagination," accusing the Zeleniyan authorities of maltreatment. Protests in the form of mid-scale picketing rallies in front of the Zeleniyan Embassy of Washington, D.C. and the Consulate-Generals of Seattle, Chicago, New York and Houston, occurred throughout Mr. Thompson's detainment. The hashtag #JusticeForJamal quickly became associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and it's internationalization, with organizations such as Amnesty International and the Human Rights Commission calling for his release and repatriation back to America.
Early this morning, however, the Justice Office has formally green-lighted his execution. In a press conference, the Press Secretary of the Justice Office, Adam Barkov, stated that:
(Translated from Zeleniyan Russian) "Mr. Thompson's punishment is well-within the scope of the National Security Law, which strictly prohibits the illegal smuggling and distribution of drugs. If it were not for the vigilant uniformed men and women that detained him at the airport, that one kilogram of fentanyl would have killed over 500,000 people and have dramatically affected and ruined the lives of five times as many more colleagues, friends, significant others and loved ones. By signing his name on those [Pre-Entry Screening and Customs Declaration] forms and crossing the amnesty line at the airport without hesitation, he has indeed acknowledged his understanding of the grave consequences that come with attempting to upend the livelihoods of half a million Zeleniyans by means of drug trafficking. Drug traffickers are on the same, low level as rapists and murderers, and shall be handed the death penalty, for such deviant acts have no place to be carried out within this country. It is in this regard that we shall proceed with carrying out this sentence."
President Suvorkin, in addressing the press in his daily press conferences, added to the recent announcement in light of a flurry of international controversy that has resulted from it:
(In English) "The media and many non-Zeleniyan people have rather colorful language to describe our system here, almost as if they think they can run this country better than the people actually living here. (Chuckle) We freely welcome whatever criticism they may have, and we encourage our citizens to have this sort of conversation. The fact that this is being discussed only emphasizes the need to set examples out of people such as the criminal drug trafficker in question. In America, drug traffickers go through prison and then they are glorified by the music industry that pampers them. In Zeleniya, they have no place here, and I'm not the only one that stands by this: the people and the families of Zeleniya very much will reciprocate this same sentiment as do the victims of drug abuse and other horrific tragedies perpetrated and enabled by criminals."
Activists on twitter are strongly critical of his response, seeing that he has refused to Mr. Thompson by name but only as the "drug trafficker in question." Tamir Johnson, one of the cofounders of the activist group known on twitter as @theBlackCollective, strongly condemned President Suvorkin's brief statement:
"The fact that he spent no less than 30 seconds to not even mention Jamal by name is beyond reprehensible. #JusticeForJamal #BlackLivesMatter," wrote Johnson under the twitter handle @theBlackCollective.
A recent independent poll taken over the past week shows that an overwhelming 76% of Zeleniyans approve of Mr. Thompson's death sentence, with 15% being apathetic and around 9% being critical of the ruling. This statistic consistently falls in line with recent conversation across Zeleniyan social media, with Zeleniyans mainly condemning Jamal Thompson and expressing their support for the death penalty served upon him.

The Yelizovo Metropolitan Corrections Complex has confirmed, through social media, that it has carried out Jamal Thompson's execution by hanging "for the gross charge of drug trafficking." In addition to this announcement, the Justice Office has announced that it is in contact with the Thompson Family and that his body will be repatriated back to the United States by the end of July.
Look, I, me, Gonswanza! Yes, Gonswanza supports the move. To violate local law, you must face the consequences of your actions. You cannot possibly hope to continue following the laws of your own country in a foreign land. That's not how the law works. In fact, here in Gonswanza, we even have laws in place to keep others from taking advantage of this, like fleeing over here from a place where guns are banned to purchase a firearm and then (somehow) transfer it back over. Such a process is blocked due to a lack of Gonswanzan citizenship, military service if over 16, and a sheer lack of training if under 16. Granted, that won't land you in jail. YET!
That aside, the law has no exceptions. If you are a devout religious zealot moving from a theocracy to a very secular nation that bans religion, you should expect to be imprisoned for trying to spread your faith. And you should have seen the writing on the wall. Unless you're just that dense. In any case, it's well deserved. Due process and all. Foreign governments can cry all they want, they will never have sway in the legal systems and autonomy of other countries. If I killed someone in Japania because they threatened me with a knife, of course, I should go to jail for murder. In Gonswanza? I'd walk off scot-free given a defense of self-defense. In Japania? They'd treat it as murder. And nobody in Gonswanza would start throwing death threats at the Premier because 'Laura Ortiz is innocent, blah blah blah, free Ortiz!' while I do my time.
Of course I'm not that stupid, but if someone were to pull that against me I'd probably enjoy the show as the would-be assassin gets a new one torn open by my guards before they are left to bleed out in a dumpster.
