International Baseball Slam XVII OOC Thread (Signups Open!)

Postby Nova Anglicana » Thu Jun 16, 2022 6:50 am

Welcome to signups for International Baseball Slam XVII: The Seventeenth Edition! This is the seventh edition of the revival of the IBS, a minor baseball tournament between WBCs previously run by Gregoryisgodistan and Super-Llamaland. I brought this back as a way to keep up baseball enthusiasm between WBCs and allow for new nations or nations that do not traditionally compete in the WBC to try out baseball RPing.

To signup, simply post your nation name and a nickname, in the following format:

Nova Anglicana Lions

If you wish to enter a domestic club team, your signup should look like this:

Domestic club team name + nickname (nation name)

Example: Vinovium Gunners (Nova Anglicana)

Please note that if you want to send a youth team, "U[age]s" is an acceptable nickname.

Host bids are welcome, and this is a good chance for nations to host their first event, though it is not recommended you bid unless you have at least some experience RPing in this subforum. Hosting previous events is by no means a prerequisite, but at least participating and actively RPing so you get a feel for how things work probably is. Your bid won't be rejected as long as it includes all required information, but bids by brand new users are unlikely to win.

The host bid deadline is set for Friday, June 24 at 11:59 PM (midnight) EST (UTC-4). Host voting may begin early if we have only one host bid, no other likely bidders, and significant interest. After that, we will vote on hosts and then the tournament will be turned over to the host(s). Signups will remain open through the end of the host voting, but any nations who sign up after host voting starts are ineligible to vote, as will the bidder(s).

Here is the winning bid from IBS XIV, by Bollonich.

Here is the winning bid from IBS XV, by Hannasea.

Here is the winning bid from IBS XVI, by United Adaikes.

The bids should resemble those three bids in format, somewhat, and include similar information. Please note that previous editions of the IBS have used both the series format and the single-game format. Both are acceptable in host bids.

There were previously IBS ranks. However, in the spirit of keeping up interest and allowing for more fleshed-out roleplaying, we will not be using ranks, instead saying that no senior national teams of nations that are ranked in the WBC will be competing. Instead, established nations should feel free to send backup national team squads, college all-stars, domestic minor leaguers, U18/U21 squads, a domestic club team, or some other collection of players. Have fun with it and use this tournament to flesh out your baseball worldbuilding! Nations not ranked in the WBC or competing in a baseball event for the first time should feel free to enter a senior national team if they so choose.

Puppets are allowed at a maximum of one per nation and must be confirmed by the master nation, but in the end, it is up to the host whether to include them or not. This post also acts as a signup for Nova Anglicana and my numbers puppet, San Isidro Labrador.

IBS is an amazing name for a competition. I've got a gut feeling this is going to be great. I'm really ready for some explosive competition. I'm shitting myself in excitement.

In general, English is the accepted language on the forums as stated here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=260044#language

Rework your signup with a nation and nickname in English and we look forward to having you compete!

As excited as you are (and we're excited to have you!), you do need an official nation and nickname to sign up for this competition. Do so, and you're in.

Just confirming that since you have a WBC rank, this signup won't be the full-fledged United Adaikes national team, in the same way that my signup isn't the official Nova Anglicana WBC team.

Not a signup, Just want to make it clear. Montesina and Lisander are different nations. Lisander isn't joining IBS XVII, so Montesina is the primary nation in its own right. No need to list Lisander, in fact.

Sure,so the Grading will be out of 10 and Based on three things, originality, humor and concept, the Scorinator will have the bonus at relative and 15%,and will degrade by 50% every matchday and With RP's that would get high or low scores These Bangers
By Kryentia in the Current Cup of harmony would most likely get 10's if i was grading

International Baseball Slam 17
Super-Llamaland and South Newlandia

To preface this; the involvement of Super-Llamaland is purely in-character. The out-of-character administration of the 17th International Baseball Slam will be done entirely by the user behind South Newlandia.

About South Newlandia
South Newlandia is a small island in Esportiva located to the east of Super-Llamaland, and has about four million inhabitants, making it one of the smallest Esportivan countries. Baseball has been among the countries most played sports since their arrival to the international scene there, and besides successfully competing in many Baseball Slams and Classics, South Newlandia has also hosted both events before (12 and 51, respectively). The country is used to hosting all kinds of tournaments, including much bigger ones, and most visitors will find the country to be friendly and inviting.

About Super-Llamaland
Super-Llamaland is a beautiful and diverse nation, from the serene forests of Kyrinson to the spectacular grey cliffs of Los-Juantos. Located in Esportiva, the nation of roughly forty-six million people is known for a successful democratic socialist government, some of the most environmentally-friendly policies in the world, and an absurdly well-funded educational system. Baseball is not only by far the most popular sport in the nation, but arguably the only sport Super-Llamaland has found international success at, with five WBC championships to the nation’s name. More recently, they have also become a domestic baseball hub, establishing the Llamaphant Pro Baseball league with their neighbour South Newlandia. They hope to strengthen their collaboration with the Elephant Isles by bidding for the upcoming IBS, a tournament that they hold deep ties to.

Format
Should this bid be chosen to host the 17th International Baseball Slam, teams will compete in groups of 6, competing in a double-round robin. From there, the highest finishers in each group will move on to a single-elimination bracket. At least a quarter, but no more than half of all teams will proceed to the knockouts. There will not be a playoff round before the main knockout bracket. Both the group stages and knockouts will be hosted in Super-Llamaland and South Newlandia.

Tiebreakers
For advancement to the knockouts and seeding in the knockout rounds, the tiebreakers will be, in this order:
1) Group Placement
2) Wins
3) Head-to-Head record
4) Head-to-Head Run Differential
5) Run Differential
6) IC coinflip (scorinated tiebreaker game)

If a tie between multiple teams must be broken and one team wins the tiebreaker at any stage, while the remaining teams are still tied, the tiebreakers start at the top of the list again to break the tie between the remaining teams.

Scorination
The Snelweg Formula will be used to scorinate the tournament. First presented in this post, the formula has been applied with great success by Zwangzug in World Baseball Classic 54. Cutoffs will be spaced 48 hours apart, and will include two group stage games or one knockout round per cutoff. I anticipate that the entire tournament will take about two weeks.

RP Bonus
Bonus will be cumulative, with a maximum earnable for every cutoff, and will not decay throughout the tournament. There will be a generous roster bonus available. In general, quality will be valued over Quantity.

Qualifications
The user behind South Newlandia has successfully hosted a variety of tournaments. With various co-hosts, they hosted World Cup 89, World Bowl 44 and International Basketball Championships 34. They also solo-hosted two Campionato Esportivas, and have been involved in scorinating the CEdC for multiple editions, alongside a variety of other smaller tournaments. Specific to baseball, they have scorinated Llamaphant Pro Baseball, the biggest baseball league on the forums encompassing multiple thousand games, for two seasons, and have hosted World Baseball Classic 51 and International Baseball Slam 12.

Should you have any questions about this bid, feel free to ask.
