The Asociación Yguazuense de Fútbol (AYF) is pleased to present...
The Yguazú División de Honor - Professional Season 2

The División de Honor de Yguazú is the highest tier of association football in Yguazú, a nation located in the region of Anaia with loose and remote bonds with Valladares. This competition, organized by the AYF, is played by 12 teams, most of them based in the national capital Karanday and surrounding areas, and it is particular in the sense that it works under an Apertura/Clausura system in which both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments constitute independent championships (i.e. the winners of both tournaments earn equal recognition as champions).

In both the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, the 12 teams play each other in a double-round robin tournament, once at their stadium and once at their rivals' one, for a total of 22 matches per tournament. The team with the most points at the end of each tournament is crowned as champion.

The competition was played as an amateur championship for nearly 100 years, and has been historically dominated by Cerro Pintado and Olímpico, who won all but 9 out of the previous editions of the competition (47 titles for Cerro Pintado and 44 for Olímpico), with Independiente (5), Tupí (3) and Nacional (1) being the only teams able to win a championship in the amateur era. Albeit the league has been played to a decent standard of quality in spite of its amateurism, the AYF believes that, by turning the competition into a professional one and having the chance to enter international competition, the level of the competition and of its own teams will have an exponential growth and Yguazuense players will have their much-wanted opportunity to take themselves to new highs.

Apertura Tournament
The Apertura was the tournament that kicked off the footballing season, and had a mouth-watering duel cutting the ribbon with defending champions Cerro Pintado visiting Independiente at their "farm". But this game had already started a few days ago outside the field, as the Cerro Pintado chairman tried to convince his fellow Independiente colleague to move the game from there to the Estadio Héroes del Pantano given the sheer size of their fanbase as well as La Huerta's 10,000-seat capacity, but to no avail since Independiente refused to accept the request. That said, the tiny Independiente stadium hosted what turned out to be a boring snoozefest in which both sides cancelled each other out with a scoreless draw. Meanwhile, the other Yguazú powerhouse, Olímpico, also had its own problems to care about in the dawn of the new season, capitulating to the tough Sol de Anaia in their season opener with a controversial goal validated by the referee even though the cameras showed that the ball did not cross the goal line (for the record, VAR is not used in Yguazú). Tupí and Nacional, also called to defy the Cerro Pintado-Olímpico duopoly every season, kicked off the season sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw, while Sportivo Eugenino tripped up in their trip to the north, losing against 25 de Marzo in Parapetí.

Deportivo Amambay and Trinidense, both newcomers to the top flight, were the other great news of the round, beating 31 de Enero and Tacuarí in their respective debuts in the División de Honor. The side hailing from Karanday's Trinidad neighborhood would go on to cause further shock by beating Cerro Pintado (!) in the following matchweek and then chained another couple of consecutive wins against Tupí and Sportivo Eugenino, with which they found themselves leading the table along with Sol de Anaia after just four games. However, Trinidense's fairytale only lasted up to that point, as they eventually bit the dust in the following round by losing at the hands of the other Yguazuense heavyweight, Olímpico and started a slow descent towards last place (where they would eventually end the tournament), whilst Sol de Anaia were able to cling on to the top spot with four more wins and a draw, ensuring that they would come with a 10-point cushion at the summit over Cerro Pintado and surprise package Deportivo Amambay at halfway point.

Although the situation for Sol de Anaia seemed to be fairly straightforward at this point, things started going downhill after an unexpected 4-1 mauling courtesy of the tricky 25 de Marzo in Round 14, when the "sunny" side lost three key players to injuries serious enough to keep them out of the remainder of the tournament, which started taking its toll on Sol as soon as their next match, when they lost 2-1 in their visit to an Independiente side shockingly struggling in seventh place. Cerro Pintado would come next, and in spite of Sol's best efforts, claimed both the win in this match as well as the tournament's top spot by scoring a goal at the start of each half. With six games to go, the title race between Cerro and Sol saw the former having an apparent upper-hand until a narrow 1-0 loss to Olímpico in the Superclásico which allowed the latter retake the lead by beating Nacional on the road. The two title contenders would exchange positions again in the next round, with Cerro Pintado beating a Deportivo Amambay side comfortably placed fourth and Sol losing to Tacuarí at home, with which the Azuleta headed into the last matchday with a one-point lead, when they would visit 25 de Marzo while Sol would take on Tupí. In order to win the Apertura title, Sol needed to win their match and Cerro Pintado to draw or lose; the latter one happened (Cerro capitulated in Parapetí) but they failed to meet their own end of the bargain and thus the defending champions retained their crown.

Clausura Tournament
Usually the Clausura tends to be the most closely fought tournament, considering that it is at this point that the aggregate table enters into play, and most teams will be looking at both tables with attention especially now that there are international berths up for grabs. This Clausura edition saw the long-awaited awakening of Tupí, the Aboriginal side. Although Tupí could call three División de Honor trophies to their name during the amateur era and were one of the few sides that could give both Cerro Pintado and Olímpico a real run for their money, they had been unable to show all that history and tradition in the professional era...until now. The Aboriginal's campaign in the Clausura started on the right foot, winning five out of their first seven games before losing the top spot to Independiente, who beat them at La Huerta. Independiente's leadership would not last long though, as they were forced to get off the summit after the next matchday when they lost to an Olímpico side struggling in the Clausura but fighting in the aggregate table to stay into the international berths.

Tupí would regain the leadership, however, a new and more dangerous contender appeared in the form of Sportivo Eugenino. The San Eugenio side, which was coming off a very poor Apertura in which they placed 10th and a rather poor start in the Clausura, started gaining momentum after a 2-0 win over Sol de Anaia on the road, which started a five-match winning streak which turned them into Tupí's biggest contenders for the Clausura title. However, the Aboriginals were able to get the better of the Pig in the two matches they played in the Clausura, with Tupí claiming the Clausura title with one match to go by beating Sportivo Eugenino at their stadium. Having qualified for the LigAnaia and ensured Challengers Cup football at worst with this title, Tupí were now faced with the chance to qualify instead for the Champions League in case they beat Sol de Anaia on the last matchday, however, they also needed Cerro Pintado not to beat 25 de Marzo...which did not happen and forced Tupí to settle for the highest berth to the Challengers Cup while the Azuleta would go to the CL once again. The great campaign done by Sportivo Eugenino was still not enough to grant them an international berth, since both Sol de Anaia and Independiente remained strong and claimed the remaining Challengers Cup berths available through the aggregate table, also taking advantage of Olímpico's poor Clausura form which moved them away from international football this upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the relegation issue had its share of entertainment with the introduction of the averages table, in which the one-season records of both Deportivo Amambay and Trinidense would make wonders since a win would propel both sides while a loss would in turn hit them quite hard as they only divided their points for one season, whilst 25 de Marzo, Nacional, 31 de Enero, and Tacuarí would divide by two seasons and therefore would have more room for maneuver. However, both promoted sides made sure their Clausura campaigns, which had Trinidense sitting in third place and Amambay comfortably placed in mid-table (also helped by their important Apertura cushion), would be enough to save both of them from a quick return to the Intermedia, unlike 31 de Enero and Tacuarí, who ended in the bottom two places in the Clausura and also in the bottom two of the relegation table, and will play in the second tier next season as a result.

Aggregate Table
The aggregate table, combining the results of both the Apertura and Clausura, will decide the teams that will be entering the IFCF tournaments for the following season. Since Yguazú is currently only entitled to one berth into the Champions League, this berth will be awarded to the highest-placed tournament champion in the aggregate table (if one team wins both the Apertura and Clausura, it will automatically qualify for the CL), with the other tournament champion qualifying for the Challengers Cup instead, and along with the next two best-placed teams in this table. The Apertura and Clausura champions will both qualify for the CAFA LigAnaia regardless of their placement in this table.

Relegation Table
Starting from this season, the two relegated teams to División Intermedia will be decided by computing an average of the points earned per game over the two most recent seasons (four tournaments), although from next season onwards, this table will be made with the three most recent seasons. The two teams with the lowest average at the end of the season will be relegated.

The Yguazú División Intermedia - Professional Season 2

The División Intermedia is Yguazú's second tier, and unlike the División de Honor, it is played under a more traditional format with 16 clubs playing each other twice for a total of 30 matches per season. The top two teams at the end of the season are promoted to the División de Honor for the following season, and will also qualify for the Liga B Champions Trophy along with the team that ends up in third place.

Relegation presents changes though, as averages are also implemented to decide the relegated teams. Just like the top tier, the Intermedia's average table will consider the performance of teams in the division during the two most recent seasons, with the teams coming in the bottom three places getting relegated at the end of the season. Teams coming from the capital Karanday and nearby areas will be relegated to Primera B Metropolitana, while teams coming from other areas of Yguazú will be relegated to Primera B Nacional.

TH Atasmak secured their first Mas Ondde title with a draw on the final day with CmSH Muhdet', who themselves threw away a 3-point lead after Matchday 26 by proceeding to score no goals in their final 6, which is notably a bad strategy for a team that intends on winning titles. Atasmak had all but secured the title on Matchday 31 with a victory in the Border Derby over fierce rivals HH Taddme, who themselves barely missed the automatic Challengers Cup position on goal differential, with Nepharim striker Janus Logan scoring a late winner to send the crowd into hysterics. At the wrong end of the table, the lone Melhamese club KSH Mutddem survived automatic relegation with a dramatic final-day victory on the road at last season's champions Urbu, who themselves endured real struggles including being in the relegation zone themselves during the Second Stage. Two of the promoted clubs in Daffu and Ddotla ended up going straight back down, with last season's Ess Ondde champions Lomdumha proving themselves to be the lone team capable of making the jump.

It was a Nepharim 1-2-3 in the race for the Golden Sword, the award given to the top goalscorer in the Mas Ondde. While tight throughout the race, Tulffo striker Lukas Boldfont ended up running away with the award with hat-tricks on Matchdays 28 and 31, ending the season on 32 goals, with his compatriots Morten Christensen and Janus Logan and 25 and 23 for Urbu and Atasmak respectively. in the race for the Golden Lance, 20-year-old Lomdumha winger Kaflel Kaccu provided two excellent crosses to snatch the award on the final day, with his 9 giving him the trophy ahead of Urbu's Opffak Kaccokeb and Ddotla's Acclem Kasomna, both on 8. In the race for the Golden Shield, Muhdet' goalkeeper Mant'ont'u Kafub provided excellent performances in a stellar defense that only allowed 15 goals to claim the award with 20 clean sheets, with Musffu's Kalfat' Kabaste and Atasmak's Focc Kahebdde in second and third.

ChSH Ddaskupo, relegated from the Mas Ondde through the Promotion/Relegation Playoff in Season 1, dominated the Ess Ondde from start to finish, ending the season an impressive 8 points clear of fellow promoted side TkFH Mankam, themselves 9.5 points clear of third-placed TkFH Fubssa - an impressive feat given the halving of points in the league after Matchday 22 and split into Top and Bottom Splits. SH Hodu, another side relegated from the Mas Ondde in Season 1, scored a dramatic winner in extra time to take down StH Teonno in the Promotion/IFCF LBCT Playoff, securing themselves a spot in both the Liga B Champions Trophy and the Promotion Playoff Final, but they would fall to Mutddem by a single goal as the Melhamese side retained their Mas Ondde status. ChH Tulffo, the best of the Bottom Split in the league, survived a penalty kick shootout to lift the League Cup over Taddme, while Ddotla ended their season on a high note by lifting the National Cup over Lomdumha by a single goal, qualifying for the IFCF Cup Winners' Cup and, along with Tulffo, to the Challengers Cup Playoffs. There, KH Udfen ended up victorious over Ddotla, securing themselves Challengers Cup qualification.

Year 10

Review

The presence of the four players with World Cup experience became the topic of conversation for local football fans. Names like Leo Olivando (Royal Pasirpura), Rama Karyadi (Mitra), Pandu Oka Jaya (Royal Puncakpura) and Bayu Narmada (Soma) attracted wider interest in the league. Matchday tickets were sold out earlier and TV viewership increased significantly every time the 4 teams that feature Pemecutanan national team players played.

However, the battle for the league title features none of the teams that have the Pemecutanan national team players on their book. The battle for the league title was between the two traditional giants, Royal Daulapura and Anara who have the best local players as well as reliable foreign players such as Emma Balmer (Kohnhead), David Kemper (Commonwealth of Baker Park), Gelereth Pirastadhaunden (Ko-oren) and Peliniho (TJUN-ia).

The two teams were so dominant that they remained undefeated until the 15th match. All the other teams have lost at least 6 matches by then. Royal Daulapura only saw their first defeat of the season in the 16th match when they lost 2-0 at home against Damaisari. A week later, Anara suffered their first defeat of the season, a shocking 1-0 defeat at home against Sentari.

The title had to be decided in the last match of the season. Going into the final match, Anara was at the top of the league with 47 points, one point ahead of Royal Daulapura. In the final match, Royal Daulapura entertained the visit of relegation battler Royal Arupura while Anara entertained the visit of Mitra who has sealed a spot in the IFCF Challengers Cup.

In the end, it was Royal Daulapura who became triumphant again as they beat Royal Arupura while Anara was tied to a scoreless draw by Mitra. The Year 10 Liga Eraman is the first season where 5 international spots are up for grab from the Eraman's top division, an increase from 4 spots in the previous seasons. With an extra IFCF Champions League spot, both Royal Daulapura and Anara will represent Eraman in the most prestigious club football competition.

The best player of the season though doesn't come from Royal Daulapura or Anara. The award goes to the sensational striker Leo Olivando who carried Royal Pasirpura to a third-place finish by scoring half of their goals, winning the Golden Boot award in the process. His national team teammate, Rama Karyadi will also be joining him in the IFCF Challengers Cup as Mitra finished fourth. The last international spot went to the aging but rich with experience Damaisari squad.

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

Brodenbach United were searching for their first national trophy since two years before the first Cove League season. The Yellows lined up with a midfield focuses diamond. Aleksander Djordjewić and Paulus Tarsus Weckmann were normally rotational players or backups. Djordjewić replaced a suspended player, while Weckmann was plucked from his attacking midfield role to be a deep lying striker. Normal striker Niels Hovedstadger would be a possible substitute. Bredemeier could be the oldest trophy winner in Cove history at forty six.

Cove Petrol looked to score a consolation trophy after missing out on the Cove League championship by just one good result. Dane Jansen’s final professional game would be a major one, and a surefire send off to remember. Starter Andreas Häfner was replaced by Arn Jansen, but Häfner would be a possible sub. Häfner was injured with a broken toe in the second phase of Cove League play. Veteran right attacker Pascal Rein was out with concussion issues. Cove Petrol’s starting players were just over twenty seven years old on average, whereas Brodenbach United assembled a staring squad with an average age of twenty five years and three quarters.

Cove Petrol would score in the first half. The goal was assisted by a free kick from Gustaf Lika. Näher was marked by Jak Olsen, but he was tripped up by Näher’s motions. The ball was then quickly shot into the upper right corner of Brodenbach’s goal. Cove Petrol would monopolize stats in the first half with more shots and possession.

The second half began with Lukas Heuberger being picked out from Brodenbach’s bench. The wing man made more than a few chances in the second half. Eike Linusen scored two minutes into playing for Cove Petrol. Cove Petrol would maintain their lead, but also risked it all when Jansen was penalized for roughly playing against Engelbrekt.

Dane Jansen was taken off the pitch with dislocated foot bones. The veteran playmaker was replaced by a well seasoned player in Schopenhauer. Then Gamlefolker made his intended substitution of Andreas Häfner. Not long after Brodenbach would finally get on the scorecard when Heuberger made a tricky pass under pressure. The ball went across the ground and Weckmann scored from about twenty yards out.

Engelbrekt was swapped out with journeyman Neils Hovedstadger. Hovedstadger couldn’t get a shot on goal before injury time. Hovedstadger’s left footed shot was deflected by Othmarsen seconds before the final whistle blew. In the end the comeback wasn’t enough for Brodenbach and they lost to the highest paid side in The Cove.
