So you’re going to be that dick of an officer who everyone hates because they won’t risk shit and run away from danger. Basically you’re the most likely candidate to be fragged.

Sort of like how most people post online differently than how they behave in real life, because the expectation is that there is just enough anonymity to not have it be connected to your real identity, if you don't reveal too much or make a mistake.

Oh so you’re a liar.

Thermodolia wrote:Also you don’t have a college education either so you aren’t going to be an officer

I don't have a 4 year degree, but do have the lowest tier. I technically did graduate a degree program with Cum Laude. I'm sure I can get any amount of college I want with enough time and money spent on it, but I'm very much soured on the concept being that it doesn't work out or has a high chance of being a debt trap. If I ever go again, it'll be making damn sure it'll be lucrative. Even if I don't enjoy the subject matter one bit.

I have my doubts that any of the Taliban's officers for example, went to any formal war college. Ukraine probably has some. I'd be interested to learn of its operations in a war context? Is it closed down or is it business as usual because churning out the officers can't just stop just because explosions are happening outside?

Ok? But the US military has ruled and regulations that must be followed and so far it sounds more likely that you’d end up being court martial’d under Article 133, article 37, article 77, & article 80 of the UCMJ. Have fun sitting in Leavenworth for the rest of your life.

But anyway all you can do at this moment is enlist and then move to the rank of Sargent and become a warrant officer as they only need 2 year degrees

There’s virtue in leading by example and in not asking subordinates to do that which you yourself would avoid. For instance, with my sorority, the officers made a habit of visibly donating time and money to our philanthropy. Often, we didn’t need to even ask the actives to follow suit. They saw older, respected sisters conducting themselves in this way and understood that it was important to our values.

I imagine leadership of this sort is even more important in the military where men and women are asked to risk far more, and many make the ultimate sacrifice. Why would you want to follow officers who are cowardly, don’t care about what happens to you, and won’t share in your risks, burdens, and sacrifices? From what I’ve heard from the men in my family, a leader who won’t stick his head out and won’t suffer alongside his people doesn’t deserve respect. And, as Thermy said, fragging was absolutely a thing.

The Ukrainian refugee that my wife and I are sponsoring for a UK visa will arrive to live with us on Friday.

The UK visa application process took two weeks; longer than it should, but a significant improvement on when the process was launched. We then had a short pause making travel arrangements, but overall we've able to do this in less than a month.

Your statement is also flawed; Russia controls 99% of Mariupol, negotiating should continue to avoid further casaulties on all sides, and a rescue mission is impossible because Ukraine a)doesn't have offensive abilities, and b)doesn't care,

Also, Mariupol is part of DPR, not Ukraine, and a clear majority of people are Pro-Russia.

May the Donbas offensive be successful!

It can, but lorry (by itself) usually refers to a large truck (like a Mack truck). The term truck by itself can refer to any size of truck, including a pickup (a small lorry).

The city of Sieverodonetsk, a city of 121,000 people according to the 2009 census, is at the head of a Ukrainian salient between Kreminna and Popasna, the former under Russian control and the latter contested. Needless to say it is at a serious risk of encirclement alongside the nearby city of Lysychansk, a city of nearly 100,000.

Valery Kuleshov, a collaborator in Kherson who was trying to become (or maybe already was, I found conflicting information) the head of a pro-Russian police force was shot dead this morning as he left his apartment. The city has also been home to pretty regular anti-Russia protests since it was occupied.

Even in areas where the Russians should be popular on paper their collaborators are being killed and people don't accept their rule. That does not bode well for their chances of holding onto anywhere they take even assuming Ukraine does agree to give up land, which by all accounts they won't.

Hopefully they won't enact stricter totalitarian measures, surely they're smart enough to realise that fascistic cruelty will only increase resentment and dissent... right?
