Anyway, it is a fact that the Chinese government suppressed information about the virus in the opening weeks of the pandemic, that they silenced scientists who warned people to prepare for it. Why not ? IMO creating the ideal circumstances for diseases to develop and doing nothing to stop that at the very least counts as *helping* to create them.
I have similar views about people (especially farmers) who do not finish treatments with anti-biotics "because they do not believe in evolution".

Because creating diseases is a thing that happens in labs, on purpose, and is not the same as failing to prevent the natural emergence of a new disease.

Doesn't feel very plausible to suggest that poor countries whose limited wealth is going to gilded palaces for their dictator would be very able to operate secret bioweapons labs. Feels like at the very least they would be unable to keep that a secret for very long. We'd probably be seeing smallpox outbreaks every other week or something if this was actually common.

The sad part is that I don't think we will focus on global problems like deforestation and agricultural biosecurity as much as we should after all of this is said and done.

We'd rather argue about bioweapon conspiracy theories and such...

I think the problem is that some people refuse to accept that these sorts of things can just happen without any human intervention involved. So it can't have evolved in the wet market, it must have been deliberately created by someone.

Judge Throws Out Federal Mask Mandate for Public Transportation

Shits about to get interesting. If Biden wants to mitigate the inevitable loss of seats in Congress, he better not fight it.

Masks on public transportation should be mandatory.

Also, diseases don't care about elections.

I am shocked, SHOCKED I say that a trump judge would throw out mask mandates.

Why should Biden care about placating stupid hateful people?

Nice Conspiracy theory.

The three you mentioned do look into diseases to see if they can be modified into a bioweapon.

Still how does that tie into covid?

Covid probably came from nature. But if that weren't the case, do you think anyone would ever admit it?

Heh. Lord Stark is correct. Everything before “but” is horseshit. Speculation doesn’t make it true.

Anyway, it is a fact that the Chinese government suppressed information about the virus in the opening weeks of the pandemic, that they silenced scientists who warned people to prepare for it. So I say they owe the planet some reparations. (Not like we'll ever get them, you can't make superpowers with nukes pay reparations, but it's just the principle of the matter.)

Can you explain why the Chinese government would consider hiding information? What about those guys we had working with their people?

Conspiracy theories are fun.

Even with your example; why would admit or share information if you are going to be punished?

i'd like to just note that when Trump nominated her to the federal judiciary, Kathryn Kimball Mizelle had never tried a case as lead or co-counsel since her admission to the bar. She spent 10 months at a firm and 3 years in government practice. The ABA rated her Not Qualified. Senate Republicans said she was fine because she'd clerked for conservative judges and waved her through.

Since she's 35, this woman will probably still be issuing decisions in the 2070's.

Isn't that exactly how conservatives want government to work? No laws, no restrictions, no regulations, just "friendly suggestions" that they're free to ignore at a whim, no matter how much suffering doing so causes.

Except, of course, when it comes to making life worse for minorities, giving themselves the freedom to fuck over workers and the environment, etc. They want stuff like that enshrined in law to the greatest possible degree.

Yes federal judges can and have been impeached. To impeach because you don’t like their rulings is an extremely dangerous door to open.

Just as much as keeping one because you like the rulings. But hey lets review:

* Trump Nominated.
* Never tried a case as lead counsel
* Never tried a case as co-counsel.
* Ten years at firm and three years in government.
* ABA rated her as not qualified.
* Republican qualification requirement was only she clerked for conservative judges.

Sounds like impeachment would be warranted.

So we're going to impeach people for not having qualifications they weren't legally required to have in the first place?
