UFL SEASON 4 - PROMOTION/RELEGATION PLAYOFFS

The bottom four teams of the United Football League and the top four teams of the UFL B League will enter the promotion/relegation playoffs. The eight teams will play single-elimination brackets for only two spots, because the top league is downsizing from 20 to 18 teams; therefore, at least two teams will be relegated, and at least two teams will have to remain in UFL B.

Ossiana FC scores the massive upset of the round, holding the red-hot AC Espene offense that scored 208 goals in 76 games to nothing in 180 minutes, and it's youngster Sanson Eisen who recovers from a quiet season to score both goals on the road.

Steckholl United and Manchester give us another classic, and the kind of penalty shootout that fans of both teams would like to forget yet will keep talking about for years; it's Mikota Sundečić who bests the tempestuous wind in Manchester...and Catherina FC outlasts the suffocating Valhalla Vikings defense on an extra-time goal from Johan Bussler, the 19-year-old rising to the occasion.

Catherina FC launches a comeback of their own, getting goals from Bussler, Varlam Kovalev, and Sergej Steklov to roll back the 3-0 aggregate deficit, before Nevada Wakefield completes the miracle with a throwback goal in overtime.

Welcome to this edition of ULTimate Lacrosse, the United Lacrosse Tour! The following nine teams will compete in the coming weeks for this season's title:

The season format is as follows:
- Each of the nine teams will host one "tournament" (hence the lacrosse "Tour"), which will consist of a single round-robin between the eight teams, and then a tournament final between the top two teams. Therefore, each team will play a total of 72 games; the finals themselves will not count in the final standings.
- At the conclusion of the regular season, teams will have accumulated "points" based on their regular season standing, as well as "points" for the tournament finals they have won. They will start a final single round robin at a neutral site, and then will be seeded by a combination of their performance in that final round-robin and their accumulated points. They will be seeded accordingly and play a single-elimination bracket to determine the season champion.
- The teams will host their tournaments in the following order; Pussonne, Lindener, Manakula, Bosmond, Orton City, Salem, Kalinin, Catherina, Carnstone. Mariana will be the site of the FInals.

Pussonne

We start in Pussonne, and the Serpents are heavy favorites to win this season's Tour, so they will see this as an opportunity to get started on the right foot. The Serpents are led by the von Karajan family - coach Jos, 58, his wife and strength/conditioning coach Marielle, 26, his goalie and son Paul, 27, and attacker son Ronny, 24. The island has a lovely cold seaside air, but Serpents possess a skilled defense that will nevertheless suffocate their opponents. Let's get started!

Lindener

Lindener Lions is one of the newer teams in the organization, and they welcome us back to the mainland after opening the season in Le Pays de la Douche. They are led by captain and midfielder Jaco Massur, who made history as the first ULTimate player who did not play collegiate lacrosse, as well as LSM Jamie O'Brien. This rural town doesn't usually get a whole lot of action, but when the Tour rolls into town, the fans come out in full force, so how can they do in front of their home faithful?

The Bulldogs possess a wealth of young talent, led by midfielder Kyle Bachman and attackers Galen Wright and BJ Whax. They have had a bit of a drop-off in past seasons, attributed to a convergence of "sophomore slumps", but hope to get on the right footing this year.

We continue on with the northern swing of this season of ULTimate! After three tournament, the Pussonne Serpents have yet to lose a game - but there is still plenty to play, and it is their season to lose. How will they fare in Bosmond, Orton City, and Salem?

Bosmond

The Serpents have been running away with this season, but in this format, the other top teams will get a fair crack at them, and the Bosmond Stags are staking their claim as the primary challenger. Their potent offense includes former national team captain Jimmy Manutin and Michael Querrey, and they've been putting up nearly as many goals. They're deep with talent and statistically are clearly the second-best team in the league - they just haven't had the same consistency, and they've yet to put a dent into the Serpents. Will that change at home?

The Serpents win their fourth tournament of the season; their winning streak ends at 31 with a draw against the Lindener Lions, and last-place Kalinin Winterwolves take a surprise draw as well. That gave the 7-1 Stags the higher seed, but the Serpents still qualified easily in second and won the game that mattered. For the first time this season, the MVP is selected from someone other than the winning team: it is Stags attacker Michael Querrey.

Orton City

Already near the cellar of the table, the Orton City Oilers, led by attacker Ryan Riddick, have slid into last place after managing just a draw in Bosmond. They need a turnaround and they need it fast; will returning home give them that?

Kalinin

We hop up north to Kalinin, the newest team in ULTimate. Valhalla isn't a big lacrosse region, but young attacker Grigor Padun has become a sort of star for this team. Now ULTimate comes to Kalinin for the first time - let's see how they do.

The Serpents return to their winning ways with their sixth tournament win. But not without a little additional drama - they finally suffer their first regular season loss to the Salem Seahawks, and this final is the first to go to overtime. The game-winning goal was scored by the tournament MVP, Ben Rosen.

Catherina

We swing through the capital now! Usually Catherina is the center of the Delaclav sporting world. For lacrosse, it's more of an afterthought - but Catherina LC is here, fighting in the middle of the table, with an outside shot at the title. Now would be a great time for them to make a competitive impact, for their offense of RIley Connors, Julian Jacobs, and Frankie Joseph to catch fire. Will it happen?

WOW! The upset of the year, as Catherina LC really didn't figure to factor into the title race. But home advantage is their magic trick, and faced with the dominant Serpents in the final, it's not even a close match! National team captain Frankie Joseph is the MVP, scoring eight goals as Catherina LC takes their first title of the year.

Carnstone

This is it! The final regular season round robin of the year. We go to Carnstone, where their Coyotes have been having a solid year, and figure to qualify for the IDLO. Now, they finally get to come home, giving a defense including Jake Lilly and Vidal Ross a chance to sign. Can they seize the opportunity to put a stamp on their season heading into the playoffs?

Finals - Mariana

Here we are! It comes down to this - after nine tournaments, 72 games for each team, we do this one more time in Mariana to determine the season champion!

How It Works: Each team is assigned points based on their regular season standing and by number of titles. That will be their starting standing for the Finals in Mariana. The nine teams will play a single round-robin, and gain two points for each additional win (games cannot end in draws). The teams will then be seeded by their standing after the round-robin. The #8 and #9 seeds will play into the quarterfinals, and the bracket will be played through to determine a winner. Single elimination, single games.

For IDLO qualification, the Finals finalists and the top two teams in the regular season (Pussonne Serpents, Bosmond Stags) will be sent. If there are fewer than four teams as a result (i.e. duplicates), the higher-seeded of the semifinalists will be sent, then the regular-season third place, then the lower-seeded of the semifinalists, then the regular-season fourth place; as many of these teams will be taken until four teams are selected.

Hybrid Combat Championship

Previous Press Release:

Welcome to the Hybrid Combat Championship! Originally announced at the Action Combat League, Hybrid CC will aim to unify the largely regionalised sport of mixed martial arts in Delaclava, and bring it to a wider audience, both domestic and international. The operation will be led by president Brian Burchess, who will oversee the financial and promotional aspects of the organization, and commissioner Charlie Downey, who will oversee the competitive aspect and be responsible for matchmaking, the creation and enforcement of rules, and ensuring the fairness and safety of all fighters.

The general rules of the promotion are as follows:
- Fights will currently be contested in the men's divisions of middleweight (up to 185 pounds), welterweight (170), lightweight (155), and featherweight (140), and women's divisions of bantamweight (130) and flyweight (115). Hybrid CC plans to add further weight classes in both genders and at both heavier and lighter weights.
- Fighters will be thoroughly medically examined and hydration tested in the days leading up to the weigh-ins, which will take place the day before fights, and on fight night itself. If a fighter demonstrates significant variations in hydration levels, they will be asked to change weight class for their next contest. If a fighter demonstrates extreme or dangerous variations in hydration levels, or shows any other medical abnormalities, the fight will be cancelled and the fighter will only be allowed to compete once they are medically cleared, and at what is deemed to be the appropriate weight class.
- Fighters will be drug tested both in and out of competition. A fighter may at no time use a performance-enhancing substance which poses a significant risk to the user or their opponents, such as steroids or blood manipulation. A fighter may not use a substance which may compromise their health or in-fight safety, such as recreational drugs, in close proximity to the fight, but may use these substances while "out of competition".
- Actions which are prohibited in fights include: biting, eye-gouging or poking, head-butting, inserting fingers into the opponent's ear, nose, or mouth, hair pulling, slams/spikes with the intent of landing the opponent on their head/neck, small joint manipulation, grabbing the opponent's gloves or shorts, holding the cage, and unsportsmanlike conduct including but not limited to timidity, passivity, ignoring referee instructions, and attacking the opponent before or after the round/fight, or during any break in the action as called by the referee. Such fouls are punishable by point deductions, disqualification, and even suspension.

Fights will be contested across five five-minute rounds, unless stopped sooner by the referee in case of knockout, technical knockout, submission, technical submission, disqualification, withdrawal, or technical superiority. If all five rounds are completed, the winner will be determined by the scorecards of three judges. Each judge will award points to the winner of each round based on the following guidelines (only one fighter will receive points in each round from each judge):
No points = A low-action, passive round, with no obvious winner
1 = A low-action but decisive round, or a close, high-action round. May be decided if one fighter attempted to initiate action more frequently
2 = A high-quality round for both fighters, but with one fighter clearly superior in striking, wrestling, and grappling
3 = Dominant round victory, demonstrating clear superiority in damage by strikes, grappling
4 = Dominant round victory, particularly with fight-altering strikes or threatening submission attempts
5 = Near-finish (or the judge believes the fight should have been stopped) with no response or opposite action

The Hybrid Combat Championship will begin with Grands Prix in the weight classes of men's welterweight and men's featherweight. The quarterfinals will be as follows:

The first Hybrid event will take place at the Colosseum in Athens, and will feature all Grands Prix quarterfinals, with the possibility of adding other fights as more fighters are signed to the rosters in the coming days and weeks.

First of all, sorry to keep you all waiting! After months of organizational delay, we-re finally ready to get this show on the road!

One quick update: after some deliberations, we have decided that Hybrid CC fights will revert to the 10-point must system, rather than implementing the scoring system described above. We do believe in a more nuanced scoring system but for the sake of popularity and accessibility, as well as having properly trained judges, we will use the more familiar system.

Main Card

Main Event, Welterweight: Diego Gusman def. Sirvan Asadi by technical submission (triangle choke) at 3:41 of Round 2.

Hybrid CC chose a grappling showcase for the main event and there were some truly thrilling exchanges, with Asadi asserting his top control and doing damage, working to side control in the first round, as Gusman continually challenged him with sweeps and submission attempts from the bottom. In the second round, Gusman managed to keep Asadi in his guard, and timed a punch just right, locking Asadi in a triangle choke. Asadi tried to fight the foot lock, then tried to punch his way out, but could and passed out swinging before Camus intervened, tending to Asadi as Gusman embraced the adoration of the crowd.

Co-main Event, Featherweight: Steven Dominguez def. Mike Bell by TKO (body kick and punches) at :28 of Round 4.

This promised brawl was a bloodbath, with Dominguez' pressure bothering Bell from start to finish. Dominguez knocked Bell down with a body kick in Round 3 and poured on the ground-and-pound, but Bell managed to make it to the...well, the bell. Bill Lennox warned Bell to show him something at the start of the fourth round, but it was Dominguez who felled Bell with another heavy kick to the liver and put on a few punches before Lennox mercifully stopped the fight.

Welterweight: Matthias Toussaint def. Hector Arroyo by majority decision (47-47, 48-47, 48-47).

Arroyo, a brawler, managed to make the fight dirty, with a lot of clinches and knees up the middle against Toussaint, the flowy striker. But after Arroyo won the first round, he struggled as Toussaint found his range, piecing up Arroyo with leg and oblique kicks, an effective jab and cross, and some stiff head kicks that had Arroyo wobbly. Arroyo eventually brought some takedowns into the game with some success, getting one in the fourth. With Toussaint clearly leading on the cards 3-1, Arroyo once again made it an ugly fight, bull-rushing Toussaint and landing some good body punches before taking him down and starting to rain down blows on a tired Toussaint. A particularly vicious elbow from Arroyo sliced open Toussaint's forehead and Chris Camus called for Toussaint to protect himself. The striker was saved by the bell, and most onlookers believed Arroyo had scored a 10-8 fifth round, earning a draw and moving on to a tiebreaker. But controversially, only Sheila Bonnie saw it a draw; judges Thomas Marshall and Walter Carey didn't give Arroyo the credit for his dominance and scored the fight 48-47 for Toussaint.

Featherweight: Leonardo Medici def. Spyridon Gerelis by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46).

The classic striker-grappler battle went the way of the striker, with Medici breaking down Gerelis with heavy body and leg kicks. Although Medici never really threatened to get Gerelis out of the cage, Gerelis largely couldn't get his own wrestling attack going. He managed three takedowns in the fourth round, his best round, but Medici otherwise coasted to the unanimous decision.

Preliminary Card

Welterweight: Ghougas Kassarjian def. Manuel Degas by TKO (punches) at 4:09 of Round 1.

Kassarjian, an offensive grappling specialist with heavy top control, sought to get the kickboxer Degas to the ground, but Degas was so concerned with the takedown that he dropped his hands and allowed Kassarjian to land some wild haymakers at close range. Degas kept Kassarjian at bay with some front kicks before Kassarjian caught a kick and dumped Degas to the ground. Degas couldn't find the fence to get up and Kassarjian eventually advanced to mount position, raining down punches until Bill Lennox had seen enough.

Welterweight: Bruno Ferreira def. Lars Lassen by KO (elbow) at 1:38 of Round 3.

The high-action and violence Ferreira dominated Lassen in the first five minutes, picking him apart with punches and kicks from range and opening up a cut around Lassen's eye. Lassen failed to implement his wrestling gameplan in that round but succeeded in gaining a takedown and some control time in the second round, which was much closer. However, Ferreira continued to accumulate damage in that round, and managed to catch Lassen with a vicious right elbow splitting from the clinch position, sending Lassen crashing face-first to the mat and prompting referee Chris Camus to wave off the fight.

Featherweight: Sebastien Mossé def. Hunter Dye by submission (kimura) at 3:01 of Round 5.

A bizarre fight where Dye managed to take down Mossé with ease but couldn't - or didn't - land much damage or advance his position, earning some scattered boos by the later rounds. Mossé ended up on his back every round but managed to quickly change fortunes as Dye made a mistake and Mossé swept out, grabbing Dye's left arm and bringing it behind his body, changing position and finishing off the kimura. Dye was forced to tap and looked understandably frustrated that he had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Featherweight: Wil Wells def. Thomas Maynard by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47).

A well-balanced affair between two very tough fighters, with Maynard smothering Wells in the first round with pressure and wrestling, opening up a cut on Wells' nose with a punch. Wells managed to turn the tide in the next two rounds, pushing Maynard backward with jabs and front kicks and unloading punches across the fence. Exhausted for the last ten minutes, both men continued to swang and bang, with each fighter getting dropped in the final round. All three judges saw the fourth for Maynard and the fifth for Wells, giving Wells the nod.

Hybrid CC 2: Komarova vs. Halsey

Welcome to the second event of Hybrid Combat Championship! The women take center stage tonight as the Bantamweight and Flyweight Grands Prix commence. And now we're live from the Colosseum in Athens!

Main Card

Main Event, Women's Bantamweight: Martina Komarova def. Cindy Halsey by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47).

The undefeated Komarova, known for her skilled grappling and heavy ground-and-pound, was heavily favored heading into this matchup against the brawler Halsey, but Komarova appeared tentative on the big stage. She won the first round with jabs and hooks transitioning into a takedown, and worked for a few submissions but didn't have any serious attempts. Halsey kept the fight standing and dirty and Komarova looked much worse for wear after three rounds. The fifth round was highly competitive, with Halsey landing a few punches on the feet and getting a takedown, while Halsey tried to unleash ground-and-pound and Komarova worked for submissions, including a particularly threatening kneebar attempt that Halsey only escaped with a borderline illegal kick to Komarova's face to free herself, which referee Shirley Wilks missed. The judges deemed that Komarova's work from the bottom was more damaging in the fifth round and gave her the nod in the unanimous decision.

Co-main Event, Women's Flyweight: Naja Farah def. Sia Martinez by submission (armbar) at 1:13 at Round 1.

Farah's crisp and clean striking was a sight to behold and forced Martinez to look for a level change quickly. Farah conceded the takedown but promptly hunted for submissions from the guard, grabbing the arm of Martinez and sweeping into an armbar and forcing the tap. Martinez looked stunned at the turn of events while Farah saluted the raucous crowd.

Women's Bantamweight: Lusia Degtyareva def. Judith Garland by unanimous decision (49-45, 48-47, 49-45).

The powerful karateka Degtyareva felled Garland with numerous head kicks in the first round, but Garland's toughness allowed her to survive the first five minutes, and she managed to take the second by controlling clinch positions against the fence. Degtyareva lacked the energy to land much power due to her first-round efforts but still controlled range well and easily took Rounds 3 and 4 to coast to a unanimous decision. Degtyareva apologized for not putting on a show but promises she's out for blood in this division.

Women's Flyweight: Reika Nasser def. Tiwa Zigane by submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:20 of Round 5.

A masterful display of striking by Zigane, who easily led 3-1 after four rounds, but Nasser had tried her best to neutralize Zigane's game and in the fifth round, managed to get a takedown and take advantage of a mistake by Zigane to get to her back. Landing elbows and punches to the ear, Nasser forced Zigane to defend the strikes and slipped her arm underneath the neck. Zigane passed out trying to fight the grip and Nasser celebrated her comeback victory.

Preliminary Card

Middleweight: Todd Makar def. Marcus Moore by TKO (punches) at 3:19 of Round 2.

The powerful kickboxer and part-time model Makar dominated judoka-turned-brawler Moore from start to finish, scoring knockdowns in both rounds and eventually flattening out Moore on his stomach and raining down blows until Michael Boyle stopped the fight. Makar called out Carlson after the fight, promising to beat him down. Perhaps that matchup is next, and perhaps for a belt.

Women's Bantamweight: Anina Savchuk def. Julia Coleman by TKO (body kick and punches) at 1:04 of Round 4.

Coleman won the first round with two takedowns and ground control but otherwise this fight was a beatdown, with Savchuk ripping kicks to the legs and body and weakening Coleman's base. Savchuk dropped Coleman once in the second round and twice in the third round before finishing the job early in the fourth with a nasty hook to the liver and follow-up punches that caused referee Chris Camus to stop the fight.

Women's Bantamweight: Lana Byrd def. Carla Gonzalez by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:37 of Round 1.

Byrd made quick work of Gonzalez once she got going, dropping Gonzalez with an upper-cut and pouncing, securing Gonzalez's back and sinking in the rear-naked choke. Gonzalez wasn't entirely dominated as she threatened with a triangle choke attempt that forced Byrd to roll out, but it is Byrd who makes it into the semifinals while taking almost no damage.

Middleweight: Brad Carlson def. Demain Bosse by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

The first middleweight fight in company history wasn't exactly fight of the night, but Carlson had a gameplan and executed, wearing down Bosse in the clinch and with ground control. The third round was particularly uneventful as Carlson got an early takedown and kept that position without landing much ground and pound. The fans weren't too happy, but Hybrid CC policy is that if you want to not be on bottom anymore, just get up, and Bosse didn't. Carlson might not have gotten new fans tonight, but he got a big win and staked his claim in the division.

Women's Flyweight: Leia Zeka def. Ruth Hess by submission (guillotine choke) at 4:04 of Round 3.

Hess employed a masterful wrestling gameplan through the first round and maintained top control for nearly four minutes, but Zeka caught Hess with a knee up the middle in the second round and the tides turned from there. Zeka knocked down Hess once more in that round and nearly finished the fight with ground-and-pound. The third round was more of the same and although Hess was able to get a takedown, she was too damaged to do anything with it and Zeka reversed the position, securing a mounted guillotine and the tap to move on to the semifinals.

Women's Flyweight: Eloise Taylor def. Shreya Kamara by KO (punch) at 2:55 of Round 2.

Kickboxer Kamara dominated the first round, masterfully controlling range and beating Taylor with body and leg kicks, but Taylor managed to make it a firefighter later in the frame and through the second round. She managed to get Kamara swinging at close range and it was Taylor who found the mark with a right hook on Kamara's chin and sending her to the canvas cold.

A heavyweight bout between Andrew d'Arnaud (11-0) and Quebecois grappler Dom Yonekura is set for the five-round main event for Hybrid CC's fourth event.

A three-round bout between Delaclav wrestler-brawler Carine Renner and Quebecois judoka Kira Siosal-Bissaka is set as the co-main event. Both fighters have been signed to the 155-pound division, but the fight will be contested at a catchweight of 160 pounds.

The goal for HCC 4 is to be an international event, and we are taking applications for fighters via TG/DM.

The event will be held at The Amphitheatre in Catherina.

Hybrid CC 5: Farah vs. Taylor

Hybrid Combat Championship

Hybrid CC 3: Ferreira vs. Toussaint

Welcome to the third event of Hybrid Combat Championship! We are back at the Colosseum in Athens and the welterweights and featherweights will put on the Grand Prix semifinals in the main card! And the preliminary card will feature Hybrid CC's first Women's Lightweight and Women's Flyweight bouts!

Main Card

Main Event, Welterweight: Bruno Ferreira def. Matthias Toussaint by TKO (punches) at 1:52 of Round 4.

Ferreira earns a main event spot after a vicious defeat of Lars Lassen, while Toussaint is his dance partner, a captivating and fluid striker. Eventually, it's Ferreira's brutality that wins out, with Ferreira taking control after two evenly matched rounds. Toussaint is landing with more volume but every punch Ferreira throws is landing and hurting Toussaint, giving him a swollen and cut left eye and busted lip. Early in the fourth round, Ferreira keeps it coming and swarms Toussaint on the fence until he's still standing but only covering up. There's no argument when Chris Camus mercifully waves off the fight. Ferreira is a monster, and he's in the Grand Prix final.

Co-main Event, Welterweight: Diego Gusman def. Ghougas Kassarjian by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46).

Gusman takes on another wrestler with heavy top control and bothers Kassarjian all night with sweeps and an active guard. It's an different kind of entertaining fight with never a dull moment, but Gusman is always just a few moves ahead for the entire fight. He comes closest to finishing affairs with a triangle attempt in the second - the same way he beat Asadi - and a kimura in the fourth that Kassarjian barely rolls out of. Gusman gasses by the end of the fight, but he's put in plenty of work by then and takes it on the cards. He's the first finalist in the Welterweight Grand Prix.

Featherweight: Sebastian Mossé def. Steven Dominguez by KO (flying knee) at :58 of Round 3.

Mossé was lightly regarded heading into the tournament, but he's already putting together quite a highlight reel for himself. Following up a Hail Mary triangle choke to win his quarterfinal, he takes on another very solid wrestler and outstrikes him in the first round. Dominguez gets several takedowns in the second round but is unable to keep Mossé down for long, and by the third round, Mossé has Dominguez's level changes all timed up. He hurts Dominguez with an uppercut the first time. Dominguez doesn't learn his lesson and Mossé leaps up with the flying knee, putting Dominguez cold on the canvas and himself in the Grand Prix final.

Featherweight: Leonardo Medici def. Wil Wells by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47).

Both of these men are coming off tough five-round fights just weeks ago, and yet they give it all they have yet again. Medici picks apart Wells with kicks at range while Wells throws the kitchen sink at Wells, hurting Medici on the feet with elbows and nearly locking up a guillotine choke in the fourth round. Ultimately, Medici's striking is a bit crisper and his natural technique holds up in the fifth round with the fight tied 2-2. They've given the crowd everything they want. Medici is fighting for the title and Wells will be back.

Preliminary Card

Welterweight: Sirvan Asadi def. Matt Davis by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

Asadi is looking to bounce back from a main event loss, taking this fight against a young prospect. Despite the split decision, it seemed clear that Asadi's grappling and top control won the day, although Davis certainly had his wild, swinging moments, giving the more experienced Asadi all he could. One judge gave Davis a bit more credit than the damage he actually did, but Asadi was relieved to win rounds 1 and 3 on two scorecards and earn his first company win.

Women's Lightweight: Robin Gilbert def. Marta Guerra by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

It's the first women's lightweight fight in company history, and the crowd is abuzz to see hyped prospect Marta Guerra, a well-rounded fighter but primarily a vicious kickboxer with a perfect 16-0 MMA record. Arguably, the purpose of the fight was to get the crowd to see Guerra and get her into a title fight ASAP. Robin Gilbert didn't get the memo. It's reported that Gilbert cuts down from 180 and she uses all of that size, strength, and wrestling skill to control Guerra throughout the fight and keep her down. Guerra shows off some of her skills and shakes Gilbert with a head kick, but Gilbert smartly clinches up when she gets stunned and Guerra can't avoid the scorecards. Guerra loses her undefeated record and Robin Gilbert is the surprise contender in this division.

Welterweight: Spyridon Gerelis def. Hunter Dye by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

Gerelis and Dye are the first two fighters to fight a second time in Hybrid CC, and each is trying to avoid a second loss, risking their status in the company. It's a close but decisive fight with the two wrestlers staying mainly on the feet. Although Dye lands some impressive power shots that get him the first round on some scorecards, Gerelis' technique and jab are decisive. Gerelis rebounds from his Grand Prix loss, while Dye is left to wonder if he'll get another fight in Hybrid.

Women's Flyweight: Vika Lotuma def. Denise Gant by submission (heel hook) at 4:16 of Round 2.

Gant controls much of the fight, scoring two early takedowns and preventing the dynamic Lotuma from getting her striking going. It appears that Gant is well on her way to taking a two-round lead, but Lotuma has persisted from the guard and finally finds a sweep into a heel hook, catching Gant by surprise, tapping out before cursing in frustration as Lotuma celebrates the first leg submission in company history.

Welterweight: Mudario Dias def. Rashan Renouf by TKO (punches) at 4:34 of Round 3.

The grappler Dias surprisingly chooses to engage on the feet with Renouf, but manages to do some good damage with knees and elbows before Renouf can figure out his range, winning the first round on the feet. Renouf gets into the fight in the second round and unleashes some devastating body kicks that have Dias hurt, but Renouf expends too much energy trying to finish the fight, and Dias dominates the final frame, getting a trip takedown and working for submissions. At some point, Renouf is gassed and Dias chooses to try to get the finish by strikes, and after several unanswered shots to the head, Bill Lennox has seen enough.

Women's Flyweight: Kate Bailey def. Arianne Cera by submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:20 of Round 1.

The first fight in the division's history doesn't last long, with Bailey neutralizing Cera's striking game early with a takedown. Cera looks inexperienced on the ground and Bailey takes advantage, eventually working her way to mount and forcing Cera to give up her back, and Bailey gladly takes it and sinks in the choke.

Hybrid CC 4: Smut Island

Hybrid Combat Championship is proud to announce a partnership with Ultrarunning World Union (UWU) for a historic 24-hour event that will launch both the popularity of Hybrid CC and the presence of Delaclav ultramarathon racing.

The event, Smut Island, will feature a 24-hour footrace conducted simultaneously with 24 consecutive hours of mixed martial arts bouts - all surrounded by an unhealthy dose of raunch and sex appeal. The event organizers have reportedly obtained permission to host the event in Szoirsia, an inhospitable desert ethnostate in Farfadillis.

A heavyweight bout between Andrew d'Arnaud (11-0) and Quebecois grappler Dom Yonekura is set for the five-round main event and is set to kick off shortly after the conclusion of the 24-hour race, ending the event. d'Arnaud and Yonekura were initially scheduled to headline an event at The Amphitheatre in Catherina, which will be given an event in the near future.

A five-round bout between Delaclav wrestler-brawler Carine Renner and Quebecois judoka Kira Siosal-Bissaka is set as the co-main event. Both fighters have been signed to the 155-pound division, but the fight will be contested at a catchweight of 160 pounds. The fight will be slated to end shortly before the end of the race so that fans can pay full attention to the thrilling finish.

There are a lot of fights to fill and plenty of spots for runners crazy enough to tackle the elements. If you are interested, please TG or DM me with your entrants! While supplies last. If you are entering fighters, please provide a weight class and a style from -5 (submission specialist) to +5 (knockout artist) for each fighter. You are also welcome to submit fighters either for this one-off event only or for multi-fight contracts in Hybrid CC. The 24-hour race is a one-off event (for now, stay tuned).

We are accepting international fighters at any time, but this card in particular will be designed as an international card. Applications may be sent by TG or DM.

Hybrid CC 7: Ferreira vs. Gusman

The Welterweight Grand Prix Final between Bruno Ferreira (28-5, 2-0 HCC) and Diego Gusman (19-6, 2-0 HCC) will headline Hybrid CC's seventh event, and the winner will be the Grand Prix champion and the first Hybrid CC Welterweight Champion. This card will be the first where Hybrid CC championship belts are awarded.

The Featherweight Grand Prix Final between Leonardo Medici (11-2, 2-0 HCC) and Sebastien Mosse (31-15, 2-0 HCC) will be the co-main event. The winner will be the Grand Prix champion, the first Hybrid CC Featherweight Champion, and the first titleholder in Hybrid Combat Championship history.

Hybrid CC 5: Farah vs. Taylor

We are back in Athens for Hybrid CC 5! We won't be able to match the unhinged chaos of Smut Island, but with four Grand Prix women's fights on the card and a whole lot more, we hope we can maintain your interest until our next 24-hour sex show! Let's go!

(Previously, fights were listed in card order from top to bottom; now, they are being listed in the order in which they are fought, with the main event last.)

Preliminary Card

Women's Flyweight: Alina Mojica def. Ruth Hess by submission (rear-naked choke) at :29 of Round 2.

Mojica made her name on Smut Island with a quick KO victory early in the night, meaning she was able to recover nicely and get a quick turnaround for this card. Hess looks to rebound after losing a fight she was once winning by third-round finish. Unfortunately, things went very much the same for Hess, who won the first round spending most of it in top control, but Mojica caught Hess with a flying knee that staggered her at the start of Round 2. Rather than follow up, Mojica followed Hess to the ground and slickly locked in a choke from Hess' back, forcing the tap. With two finishes in a month, the flyweight champion may need to deal with Mojica once the Grand Prix concludes.

Lightweight: Lee Wood def. Algernon Pope (UAD) by submission (kimura) at 3:59 of Round 2.

Like Mojica, Wood and Pope earned quick victories in Szoirsia and were eager to capitalize on the momentum and stake their claim to the lightweight division. Although each scored submission victories, Wood is more known for his explosive striking and just battered Pope throughout nine minutes, dropping him three times. However, Wood was equally comfortable on the ground and would eventually secure the win with another arm submission, this time a kimura. So far, Wood has been able to win any way he wants. Face him at your own peril.

Women's Bantamweight: Carla Gonzalez def. Julia Coleman by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Gonzalez and Coleman both were finished in the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix and are hoping to rebound. Gonzalez was finished much more quickly in the first round, while Coleman did well for herself early before losing in the fourth round - and the additional game tape may have played into Gonzalez's hands. Gonzalez was able to figure out Coleman's patterns and sting Coleman with hooks and uppercuts before getting some nifty trips and end up on top. Not much debate about the winner here.

Middleweight: Demain Bosse vs. Dennis Mishkin is a unanimous draw (28-28, 28-28, 28-28).

Bosse brings a 0-1 promotion record into the fight while Mishkin is making his debut, but neither man is able to get the result they want here. Bosse goes for broke early, wading in and winging hooks, Mishkin is much more technical and because he hasn't yet had the time to collect info, Bosse's strategy works and he badly hurts Mishkin, dropping him twice and causing Bill Lennox to take a close look as Mishkin is getting battered against the fence. Credit Mishkin's toughness, because he's able to get enough head movement and panic grappling to convince Lennox to let it go. Bosse is gassed after five minutes and Mishkin is able to pick him apart safely for the rest of the fight, scoring takedowns in each of the second and third round. It's an impressive performance to close out, but Mishkin is unable to get the finish and Bosse's early success lingers. We have our first draw in promotion history. Both men expressed interest in running it back, and we think the fans will too.

Middleweight: Brad Carlson def. Nikolay Amadov by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

For the second straight fight, Carlson dominates with his wrestling, and the young debutant Amadov is utterly flummoxed and powerless to escape Carlson's control. Carlson didn't exactly garner the raucous applause in the same way other fighters have so far, but Carlson has rather easily won all six rounds in the cage, and that's the whole point. Welterweight: Manuel Degas def. Jesse Brown by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Degas struggled to get going against a talented wrestler like Ghougas Kassarjian. But against a fresh face like Jesse Brown, Degas was able to unleash the full extent of his striking, bobbing and weaving in and out of range like a master and stabbing Brown with jabs, hooks, and kicks from top to bottom. Fans ooh'ed and aah'ed as Degas rocked Brown multiple times in the final frame, the image of Brown's heading snapping around even more magnificent and horrifying on the big screen. Respect to Brown for making it to the final bell, but the night belongs to Degas. A stunning performance to conclude the preliminary card.

Main Card

Women's Bantamweight: Anina Savchuk def. Lusia Degtyareva by TKO (elbow and punches) at 2:53 of Round 5.

This is about as pure of a standup fight as you'll get in MMA, and these two women got after it. Both women had their moments, with Savchuk darting into range with some swift kicks and power punches, and Degtyareva making use of punches to the body and the clinch position that seems to wear down Savchuk. After four rounds, Degtyareva had taken a 3-1 lead and seemed content to continue employing the strategy and secure a ticket to the championship fight. But Savchuk had been trying to time strikes coming out of the clinch and landed an elbow perfectly in such a situation, stumbling Degtyareva. As she wandered backwards, Savchuk walked her down and dropped her with some accurate hooks before raining down blows as Degtyareva cowered and Michelle Dye had seen enough. Savchuk wildly celebrated her comeback victory as Degtyareva remained on the ground in disbelief.

Women's Flyweight: Leia Zeka def. Reika Nasser by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47).

Both women scored come-from-behind finishes in their quarterfinals, so we already knew it was going to be hard to defeat either woman easily. This was a battle of Zeka's striking against Nasser's wrestling and while Zeka led early, Nasser gradually figured out her timing and got Zeka to the ground earlier each round. This was a hard one to score and to some surprise, all three judges saw it the same, the first three rounds for Zeka. Damage-first believers expressed disappointment that Zeka didn't get a clean sweep while the grappling faithful were astonished that Nasser hadn't won at least three rounds. It's mixed martial arts. Who the hell knows. Zeka's in the final, where she'll be a huge underdog anyway.

Women's Bantamweight, co-main event: Martina Komarova def. Lana Byrd by TKO (punches) at :11 of Round 5.

Komarova was evidently nervous in her Hybrid debut, but in this fight we saw much more of the merciless beating she can hand out, while Byrd found her match after a quick quarterfinal victory. Byrd seemed comfortable on the feet and the two fighters split the first two rounds there, but once Komarova decided she wanted this fight on the ground, Byrd was absolutely mauled. It was arguably a failure on everyone's part to even let Byrd start the fifth round, but it didn't take long for Komarova to pump a one-two up the middle that collapsed Byrd and caused Shirley Wilks to finally have seen enough. Komarova advances to the final and that fight against Savchuk should be a banger.

Main Event, Women's Flyweight: Naja Farah def. Eloise Taylor by submission (heel hook) at :50 of Round 5.

Naja Farah may just have nine lives. Eloise Taylor was able to take control in her last fight after overcoming her opponent's more technical striking and making it a brawl, and she did exactly the same here. Farah somehow managed to stay around through it all as Taylor bullied Farah with elbows and ground-and-pound. Taylor scored 10-8's in Rounds 3 and 4, and it was a level of dominance that had some fans wondering if Farah should even be allowed off the stool for Round 5. But unlike Byrd, Farah very much had her wits about her, and had the wherewithal to try something completely different, ducking a big swing from Taylor and executing a sideways (OOC: imanari) roll that caught Taylor off guard. Farah was grabbing Taylor's ankle and foot and shredding her knee before Taylor even knew what was happening. Incredibly brutality and grit from Farah. She will fight for the Flyweight title next, a big favorite over Zeka, and this fight will go down in the annals of Hybrid CC history.

A five-round heavyweight bout between Evan Dawson (9-1, 1-0 HCC) of Delaclava and Iivo Kristo (1-0 HCC) of Gortolekua will headline Hybrid CC's sixth event. Kristo will be the first non-Delaclav fighter to headline a Hybrid CC card on Delaclav soil. The main card will also feature:

This card will be the first where Hybrid CC championship belts are awarded.

The Featherweight Grand Prix Final between Leonardo Medici (11-2, 2-0 HCC) and Sebastien Mosse (31-15, 2-0 HCC) will be the co-main event. The winner will be the Grand Prix champion, the first Hybrid CC Featherweight Champion, and the first titleholder in Hybrid Combat Championship history.

The event will be held at The Colosseum in Athens.

Hybrid CC 8: ~~Harvey vs. Upton~~

~~A five-round women's flyweight bout between Ashley Harvey (14-2, 1-0 HCC) and Flossie Upton (1-0 HCC) of United Adaikes will headline Hybrid CC 8~~. Following a contractual dispute, Hybrid CC is currently searching for a main event for this card. A three-round heavyweight co-main event is slated to feature Andrew d'Arnaud.

Hybrid CC 6: Dawson vs. Kristo

For the first time in Hybrid CC history, welcome to Catherina! The glittering capital of Delaclava, one of the cultural and economic hotspots of Atlantian Oceania, has waited patiently for its first card, and this lineup promises to deliver!

(As a reminder, fights previously were listed in card order from top to bottom; now, they are being listed in the order in which they are fought, with the main event last.)

Preliminary Card

Women's Flyweight: Vika Lotuma def. Kate Bailey by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

The two flyweights both made a name for themselves Hybrid CC 3, scoring submission victories, and this is a cracker of a fight to open proceedings here. The shorter, stockier Lotuma brought the superior striking to the table, battering Bailey for the majority of the 15 minutes as Bailey was unable to take down Lotuma and control her for any significant stretch. Lotuma is positioning herself nicely as a challenger for the first title defense of the Grand Prix winner.

Women's Lightweight: Sophie Binder def. Robin Gilbert by TKO (punches) at 3:36 of Round 1.

Gilbert was hoping to ride the momentum of a massive upset over kickboxer Marta Guerra, who'll be featured later on this card. But Binder showed herself as a high-action fighter late on the Smut Island card with a first-round submission of Elizabeth Maldonado, and she got the job done just as quickly here, pressuring Gilbert from the beginning and eventually finishing her, backing her up against the fence and unleashing punches until the referee intervened.

Welterweight: Andres Velez def. Yerbolat Ardagerev by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

In a battle of two Smut Island winners, the kickboxer Velez picked apart the more well-rounded Ardagerev, counterstriking with front kicks and push kicks and never allowing Ardagerev to advance forward with much effect. Velez inserts himself near the top of a stacked welterweight division and may not be far from a title shot of his own.

Heavyweight: Rhett Day def. Christopher Boysen by KO (punch) at 1:57 of Round 1.

Day showed grit and slick grappling in his HCC debut on Smut Island. Now, he gets it done with his hands, reading Boysen well early and sitting him down with a right check hook. Boysen recovered for a bit, but a one-two form Day soon after put Boysen's lights out and Day knew to walk away. A heavyweight with two finishes in two bouts has an argument for something big next.

Middleweight: Ashton Lake (CDO) def. Marcus Moore by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Canadian Dominion is the first foreign nation on the card tonight, and Lake is the first fighter from his country to compete in Hybrid. He represents well, mixing his striking and takedowns effectively, and fighting very similarly to Moore but just with a touch more power and speed throughout the fight. And with plenty of eyes on this fight, topping the preliminary card, many will leave tonight impressed by Lake's skill and waiting to see what's next.

Main Card

Women's Strawweight: Jeannine Roush def. Salome de Costa (LFD) by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

A good handful of judoka have successfully transitioned their game to mixed martial arts, and the 48kg bronze medalist de Costa sought to make that same jump. But Roush was simply the more developed striker, and was much bigger too than de Costa, which particularly rendered many of de Costa's throws and takedowns ineffective. For the most part, Roush was happy to remain at range and managed to avoid clinch situations, finding particular success with her leg kicks and jab.

Women's Lightweight: Marta Guerra def. Katie Roberts (HAN) by KO (head kick) at 4:52 of Round 1.

Guerra's much-hyped debut did not go as planned, and Hybrid CC didn't seem interested in giving her an easy comeback fight. Instead, Guerra would see across the cage Katie Roberts, the two-time Olympic gold medalist judoka from Hannasea. No matter. Roberts did manage to take down and control Guerra early, maintaining heavy top control, but Guerra was wise to Roberts' various submission setups and managed to stay alive and work her way back to the feet. Then, Guerra began proceeding with a sense of urgency, abandoning her usual counter-striking and beating up Roberts with leg kicks. When she heard the ten-second clapper, Roberts was expecting low but Guerra went high, a devastating left high kick clanging through Roberts' temple and sending her crumpling to the canvas. What a remarkable comeback for Guerra, and Roberts will be back when she's ready, showing plenty of promise before the ending sequence.

Welterweight: Salvador Maidana def. Mudario Dias by submission (guillotine choke) at 4:26 of Round 2.

Dias' gameplan was clear: to submit Maidana, the talented striker with a head kick highlight from Smut Island. Dias managed to pull Maidana down quickly, showing his masterful jiujitsu game and threatening Maidana first with a kimura that Maidana managed to roll through, then a rear-naked choke where Maidana managed to leave himself just enough room in the elbow to not pass out. But all that rolling and pulling and squeezing was taking its toll on Dias, and you could see the tide shift as Dias tired. Maidana battered Dias with ease in the second round as Dias stumbled around exhausted, before Maidana took mercy on Dias late in the frame, submitting the grappler with a guillotine after Dias took Maidana down but couldn't manage any further progress. Maidana made a name for himself in the welterweight division and has plenty of options ahead - perhaps Velez, Asadi, even a title shot.

Women's Lightweight, co-main event: Leentje Lous def. Kira Siosal-Bissaka (QUE) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

An anticipated clash between two more fighters who made themselves stars on Smut Island. Lous gained fame for her vicious elbow knockout of Grace Herman and the subsequent delirium and chaos out in the desert. Then, Siosal-Bissaka had the stage set for her and completely outclassed Carine Renner for a third-round submission. And this fight was pure violence, with Lous letting out haymakers and roundhouse kicks from the start, making immediate marks on KSB and discouraging her takedowns. But KSB showed a lot of toughness in weathering the storm, throwing back her own punches, and being willing to wade into the clinch and try to implement her own game plan. The second round was her best round, figuring out Lous' patterns and landing takedowns. With the fight shaping up to come down to the wire, Lous landed a nasty elbow from the bottom that sliced open KSB and changed the tenor of the fight for the third round. It seemed to take something out of KSB and though she tried to hang in, Lous was the slightly less exhausted of the two fighters and it was her strikes making the impact. A clear 29-28 decision for Lous, who's becoming a rapid fan favorite, but there was plenty of appreciation to go round for the Quebecois grappler.

Heavyweight, main event: Iivo Kristo (GTK) def. Evan Dawson by TKO (punches) at 1:38 of Round 2.

The five-round main event is here! Evan Dawson was thrust into the spotlight after a surprising decision victory over Aniyar Achmedjanov, and the Delaclavs are looking for a heavyweight hope after Andrew d'Arnaud's main-event loss on Smut Island. He has to contend with Iivo Kristo, the hulking Gortokeuan who scored a third-round knockout of prospect Christian Wagner in Szoirsia. The crowd is still buzzing after Lous' victory, and initially Dawson managed to capitalize on that energy with effective striking, particularly his jabs and hooks. But pundits wanted to see these two grapple, and they treated us to some thrilling exchanges on the ground in the latter half of the opening round. It was Dawson who would take the round with a threatening kneebar attempt. He seemed encouraging, landing punches with more intention to start the second, but it all changed when Kristo flicked a little left hook that caught the chin of Dawson and put him on its stakes. Dawson was still there, but his defense was degraded and Kristo was wise to invest in the body before landing an uppercut that wobbled Dawson even more. Referee Josh Grisham gave Dawson every opportunity to recover, but one last hook from Kristo put Dawson down and the fight is over! The result takes the wind out of the sails of the crowd, but they quickly rebound to show their appreciation for both fighters. Kristo says he'll take whatever is next, but it could be Rhett Day from this card, or Dom Yonekura - and once the Grand Prix tournaments wrap up, Hybrid CC is going to start giving out belts in other divisions too. So anything's possible for the man of the hour, Iivo Kristo.

A five-round co-main event between Todd Makar (13-0, 2-0 HCC) and Brad Carlson (16-0, 2-0 HCC) will be contested for the inaugural Hybrid CC Middleweight Championship. It will be the first title bout between two undefeated fighters.

The main card will also feature heavyweight bouts between Quebecois grappler Dom Yonekura and Sullivan Bailey, and Andrew d'Arnaud and Kevin Tyrell.

The event will be held at an undetermined venue in Cleopatrana.

Hybrid CC 9: Komarova vs. Savchuk

Hybrid Combat Championship

Hybrid CC 7: Ferreira vs. Gusman

We've made it back to Athens, and the stakes have never been bigger! We're handing out the first two championship belts tonight, and there's plenty of other thrilling action to behold. Let's not wait any longer!

(Fights are listed in the order in which they are fought, with the main event last.)

Preliminary Card

Featherweight: Hunter Dye def. Mike Bell by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

A bout between two opening round losers in the Grand Prix, with Bell not having fought since then following a brutal loss to Steven Dominguez, and Dye getting one more chance following a second loss. In a back-and-forth fight spent largely on the ground, it was Dye who had the balance of the offense in rounds 1 and 3, snapping his losing streak.

Welterweight: Rashan Renouf def. Lars Lassen by TKO (body kick and punches) at :59 of Round 1.

Renouf was looking to bounce back from a rough-and-tumble loss on Smut Island, while Lassen only just recovered from a vicious beating at the hands of Bruno Ferreira. It's the kickboxing of Renouf that immediately overwhelms Lassen, and Renouf fells Lassen with several body kicks, the last of which has Lassen keeling over before Renouf hits him with uppercuts and follows Lassen with ground-and-pound that earns Renouf a quick stoppage and gets him back on track.

Women's Bantamweight: Judith Garland def. Cindy Halsey by TKO (punches) at 4:49 of Round 3.

Garland and Halsey both proved their toughness against some fearsome top-level fighters, but now it's on one to rise above and get in the win column. A relatively close fight gets out of control in the third round with Garland managing to progress to mount thanks to a mistake from Halsey, and after some extended time picking the right shots, a few to Halsey's ear really sting and go unanswered and Bill Lennox steps in to call off the fight. Garland was getting that one on the cards, but the authoritative end really helps her cause in this division.

Featherweight: Spyridon Gerelis def. Francisco Javier Walsh (UAD) by submission (mounted guillotine) at 1:41 of Round 2.

Gerelis has his finest performance yet to really make an impression in the promotion. He takes on the Adaikesian, a fellow grappler, and Walsh takes a very close first with both threatening submissions, Gerelis preferring to hunt for chokes while Walsh nearly locks in an armbar. In the second, Gerelis gets an early takedown, and although Walsh reverses, Gerelis hangs on to the neck and gets the hands together for a guillotine. It's tight and Gerelis leverages that to reverse the position, holding onto that choke from mount. Walsh doesn't tap; he goes to sleep. A signature performance for the wrestler in front of his home crowd. Now, he'll hit the showers and watch the title fight later with great interest.

Women's Flyweight: Ana Colon def. Kathi Alvarado (UAD) by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26).

An utter mauling by Colon, who lost a close decision on Smut Island and has been hungry to get back in the win column. Colon masterfully mixed the striking and grappling and overwhelmed Alvarado, including battering her opponent against the fence with clinch elbows and knees, earning a 10-8 on all three judges' scorecards.

Heavyweight: Christian Wagner def. Otso Koit (GTK) by KO (punch) at 4:07 of Round 2.

Wagner pulls off one of the most remarkable comebacks you'll ever see. The first round was a clear 10-8 for the Gortolekuan Koit, who dropped Wagner multiple times, and Wagner was only able to do just enough of grabbing desperation single legs to avoid fight-ending punishment. But this is heavyweight power we're talking about, and a short hook from Wagner early in the second round had Koit on skates and evened the fight considerably. Just when it appeared that Koit would manage to pull off the win, a lead uppercut from Wagner again staggered Koit and Wagner plowed forward, backing up Koit until landing a power right straight down the pipe that busted Koit's nose and slumped him to the canvas. A signature win for Wagner that no one will forget soon.

Main Card

Welterweight: Matthias Toussaint def. Asmus Winther by TKO (head kick and punches) at 3:31 of Round 3.

The stylish Toussaint was slow to start against the more compact Winther, whose striking was simple and brute but effective. But once Toussaint got going, it was simply too many angles for Winther to cover, with Toussaint looking free and landing wheel kicks and flourishing combinations that dazzled the crowd. Toussaint finished a combination in the third round with a sneaky lead head kick, the speed too much for Winther's chin to eat, and Toussaint followed up with punches against the fence to elicit the stoppage. Toussaint is inconsistent but a thrilling fighter at his best. Might we see him in a title fight soon?

Women's Flyweight: Shreya Kamara def. Ashley Harvey by KO (head kick) at :40 of Round 1.

Harvey got off to a good start in the promotion with a knockout of her own on Smut Island, but the Grand Prix competitor Kamara has shown there are levels to this. Kamara's striking is on a different level and she quickly set up the winning head kick that faceplanted Harvey, and Chris Camus desperately dove in to push away Kamara, but she was already walking off, celebrating the win. That's the kind of finish that makes you a star in this sport.

Women's Bantamweight: Kamyla Ramos def. Anaia Lopez by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

This fight was dirty, grimy, and the fans loved it. Ramos brought the same bloodlust as she had on Smut Island, and Lopez was ready to be pushed to her limit. Lopez managed to get Ramos down to the ground and control her later in the fight, landing some ground and pound, but Ramos' early work on the feet - busting Lopez' nose and swelling up both of her eyes with crisp jabs and wild haymakers - earned her the decision. It's hard to think either woman's stock went down with their performance in this main event spot. But from a matchmaking perspective, Ramos' win will matter a lot here.

Co-main event, Featherweight Grand Prix Final and Championship: Leonardo Medici vs. Sebastien Mosse

Here we have the first title fight in company history, and it does not get much closer than this. Medici is a pure kickboxer with a square stance and compact, clean strikes; Mosse is a bit of a wild man who can win and lose the fight anywhere. Medici has made it through ten tough rounds to get here while Mosse has picked up two come-from-behind victories. Medici's clean technique and volume wins him the first round, but Mosse makes it dirty in the second round, landing some lead elbows and knees that have Medici backing up in a hurry. Mosse scores a knockdown in the round, but Medici responds in kind in the third round with a stiff jab right on the button. The fourth round appears to be Mosse's thanks to a change in strategy that sees him take Medici to the ground and hunt for submissions. It all appears that it'll come down to the fifth round and there's not much to separate them. Medici lands some effective leg kicks that once knock down Mosse; Mosse earns some time in top control and lands some good shots but eats an elbow from the bottom for his troubles and doesn't really threaten a finish. The final horn sounds and we have no idea who won. The first judge, Ben Calder, has it 48-47 Mosse. The second judge, Stan Gressler, has it 48-47 Medici. The third judge, Mary Price, has it 48-47 for the winner by split decision, and the first Hybrid CC Featherweight Champion... LEONARDO MEDICI! Amid a smattering of cheers and boos, an emotional Medici gets the belt wrapped around his waist by Brian Burchess. Mosse looks disappointed but accepting of the decision. So there you have it: Leonardo Medici def. Sebastien Mosse by split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47).

Main event, Welterweight Grand Prix Final and Championship: Bruno Ferreira vs. Diego Gusman

And the main event is here! Ferreira has made it to this final by brutalizing the competition, while Gusman has made it through with masterful grappling. Ferreira's strategy seems to be to finish this one early, and he puts up a relentless pace with punches and kicks. Gusman is playing his best defense, but doesn't manage to launch meaningful offense of his own. But midway through the second round, Ferreira's strikes are becoming big and slow, less explosive, and Gusman ends the round in side control. With Ferreira breathing heavy, he is powerless to get up. But there's not much you can do with an empty health bar, and Gusman gets another early takedown. He mixes in punches better than he's done this whole tournament, and Ferreira gives up his back, just what Gusman wants. A five-round co-main event between Todd Makar (13-0, 2-0 HCC) and Brad Carlson (16-0, 2-0 HCC) will be contested for the inaugural Hybrid CC Middleweight Championship. It will be the first title bout between two undefeated fighters.

The Women's Bantamweight Grand Prix Final between Martina Komarova (18-0, 2-0 HCC) and Anina Savchuk (23-4, 2-0 HCC) will headline Hybrid CC's ninth event, and the winner will be the Grand Prix champion and the first Hybrid CC Women's Bantamweight Champion. This card will be the first to crown women's champions.

The Women's Flyweight Grand Prix Final between and Leia Zeka (12-4, 2-0 HCC) and Naja Farah (23-0, 2-0 HCC) will be the co-main event. The winner will be the Grand Prix champion, the first Hybrid CC Women's Flyweight Champion, and the first women's champion in Hybrid Combat Championship history.

The event will also feature bouts including Sultan Muratov vs. Ashton Lake in the middleweight division, and #5 Ghougas Kassarjian vs. Mudario Dias in the welterweight division.

The event will be held at The Colosseum in Athens.

Hybrid CC 10: Guerra vs. Siosal-Bissaka

A five-round main event in the women's lightweight division between Marta Guerra (17-1 MMA, 1-1 HCC) and Quebecois grappler Kira Siosal-Bissaka (1-1 HCC) will headline Hybrid CC 10.

Hybrid CC 8: Wood vs. Rušil

Hybrid CC takes the show to Cleopatrana for the first time, and it's a big event we've got! Fourteen fights in total, and at the end of the night, we will have two more champions in the lightweight and middleweight divisions! We've got a lot of fights to get through, so rise and shine!

(Fights are listed in the order in which they are fought, with the main event last.)

Preliminary Card
Women's Flyweight: Arianne Cera def. Denise Gant by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Cera stuffs nearly all of Gant's takedown attempts and picks her apart at range for the majority of the fight. Cera plays it safe in the third round and allows the takedown then, but Gant accomplishes little with that position and there's no doubt who won this fight. With two losses in the flyweight division, the undersized Gant may explore a drop down to the nascent strawweight division. Cera, meanwhile, made huge improvements in her grappling since her debut and is one to watch.

Heavyweight: Fred Samuels def. Jaakob Aniol (GTK) by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

Aniol's wrestling was very effective at the beginning of the fight, but Samuels turned the tide in the second, continuing to lumber forward and wing punches at the Gortolekuan. The decision came down to a close second round where both men managed to effect some of their gameplan. To the delight of the crowd at the Atlantis Casino Gardens, two judges see it for the Delaclav. Aniol is miffed, but never leave it in the hands of the judges. Especially not with poor cardio.

Welterweight: Matt Davis def. Mikey Brewer (UAD) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Brewer was a highly touted prospect who lost a tough debut to Hector Arroyo, and the matchmakers tried to take pity on him with an easier matchup in Matt Davis. The matchmakers had done similarly to get Sirvan Asadi a bounceback win. But Davis showed his toughness in that bout, and he found another level in this fight, his constant pressure and unrelenting combinations preventing Brewer from getting anything going. Davis showed fatigue late in the fight and Brewer managed to control him on the ground to stop further damage, but it was too little, too late. Davis now has to be taken seriously as a player in this division, and Brewer has some soul-searching to do.

Women's Flyweight: Hailey Macias def. Brittney Carver by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Macias wins a grappling-heavy battle that has a lot of stalemates and leaves the crowd starting to boo. Carver had a little bit more control but it was Macias who has more threatening attempts that force Carver to escape and sacrifice position. Grappling is highly technical at times, and not always flashy, but it's understandable that the crowd was less than pleased with this battle. Regardless, Macias is now 2-0 in this division and has a diverse array of skills that should serve her well in an important fight next.

Lightweight: Jack Maurer def. Beñat Felip (GTK) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

An impressive debut for Maurer, winning a back-and-forth fight. Felip had a bit more volume and more variety in his gameplan, but Maurer has cement in his hands and it was his punches that staggered Felip. Both men were incredibly durable, and it's unfortunate for Felip that he has no wins yet to show for his skill. Hopefully, with more fighters in the lightweight division, Felip will have more opportunities to work his way to the top.

Heavyweight: Juan Domingo Arce def. Julio Valladares by TKO (punches) at 2:38 of Round 1.

A promising fight between two wild heavyweight bruisers with plenty of speed and power ends quickly. The wrestling of Arce proves to be a distraction and Arce uses the level changes to set up an overhand left that knocks Valladares to his back. Valladares is still with it and able to defend himself, but Arce immediately rains down punches that causes Valladares to turtle up. That's not intelligent defense and Frank Lacy steps in to take mercy on Valladares.

Women's Lightweight: Emily Jackson def. Carine Renner by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

The brawler Renner was highly touted going into a co-main event spot on Smut Island, and it was expected she would be able to rebound after the loss. But Emily Jackson's boxing proves to be too much, picking up momentum as the fight goes on. Renner's chin held up impressively, but she wasn't able to provide enough offense in return. Jackson inserts herself into the top of the heap in an incredibly complicated women's lightweight division, which still does not have a title fight booked despite two clear contenders in Lous and Binder.

Welterweight: William Pymer def. Sirvan Asadi by submission (triangle choke) at 2:17 of Round 1.

Asadi may be a fantastic offensive wrestler, but it appears that submissions from the bottom are becoming his Achilles heel. He lost his Grand Prix opening bout in such fashion while establishing top control, and a creative submission artist like Pymer was able to exploit that while the two fighters were still dry. Asadi got the early takedown, but Pymer controlled Asadi well in his guard, and kept working until he managed to get his legs in the right position for the choke. He tapped Asadi, who then put his head down in frustration as Pymer celebrated. This was an opportunity for Asadi to work his way into title contention; now, Pymer's done it instead.

Featherweight: Steven Dominguez def. Wil Wells by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:13 of Round 3.

An intriguing clash between the two losing semifinalists in the Grand Prix, each hoping to get a shot at the newly crowned champion Diego Gusman. After an even first two rounds staying mainly on the feet, Wells gets ahead in the third round with a slick trip and establishes control on top. He appears well on his way to victory when Dominguez lands a nasty elbow from the bottom that slices open Wells just above his right eyebrow. There's a lot of blood and it's clearly bothering Wells, and Dominguez manages to reverse the position and starts landing more elbows and punches from the top. Wells' only option is to give up his back. You'd be a fool to refuse a wide open rear naked choke, and Dominguez is no fool. Wells taps as soon as Dominguez locks the arms together.

Main Card
Women's Featherweight: Greetje van der Weegh def. Cheyenne Logan by KO (knee) at 2:00 of Round 2.

An intriguing fight between two highly versatile women - Logan is a kickboxer with nasty chokes and van der Weegh a judoka with nasty power. It's been rumored that the winner of this fight will get a shot at Kamyla Ramos for the inaugural belt. Van der Weegh is well aware of Logan's danger at range, and she looks to engage Logan in the clinch and drag her down to the ground. The first round is largely a stalemate and van der Weegh fails to do so, so Logan likely takes that round based on the limited strikes she landed and van der Weegh needs to have a sense of urgency here. She's more insistent now, and lands some good knees and foot stomps up against the fence. Then, van der Weegh gets Logan in a collar tie and lands a knee to Logan's body that buckles her. A second knee lands flush to Logan's chin and folds her to the canvas. No follow-up necessary.

Heavyweight: Andrew d'Arnaud def. Kevin Tyrell by submission (armbar) at 4:40 of Round 1.

D'Arnaud is looking for a victory after failing to take advantage of a big chance against Dom Yonekura in the Smut Island main event. Tyrell actually opened that 24-hour event with a first-round submission, and he's not as highly touted, but he's a good test for d'Arnaud. The young boxer has really worked on his grappling since that loss to Yonekura, and he takes down Tyrell early, working all over Tyrell's back looking for the choke. Tyrell is staying calm and d'Arnaud is a little high, but d'Arnaud adjusts and goes for the left arm instead, locking up the belly-down armbar. D'Arnaud is in the win column at last.

Heavyweight: Sullivan Bailey def. Dom Yonekura (QUE) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Another title eliminator here, with Iivo Kristo waiting in the wings to see who his opponent will be. Bailey is largely a boxer, while Yonekura's grappling will present a major challenge. But Bailey's takedown defense holds up well throughout the fight. Yonekura gets one throw in the second round, and his top control is heavy and threatens with a few submissions that really make Bailey work to escape. It's a masterful display of grappling and chaining transitions for a few minutes, but otherwise, it's a striking masterclass from Bailey. He gets the title shot, and the promotion brings Kristo into the cage for the faceoff. It's respectful, but intense. Meanwhile, is a rematch between Yonekura and d'Arnaud on the cards?

Co-main Event, Middleweight Championship: Todd Makar vs. Brad Carlson
Someone's "oh" has got to go! We have our first title fight of the night, and it's between two undefeated fighters for the first time in Hybrid history. Makar is a violent, powerful kickboxer, while Carlson is a "lay-and-pray" wrestler who has bored fans considerably but has been incredibly dominant. The fight starts with a few body kicks from Makar and Carlson wants none of that business, rushing in for a double-leg takedown and dumping Makar to the canvas. The first round is otherwise relatively uneventful, with Carlson doing just enough to avoid the referee standing things up. The round ends and the crowd boos with impatience, Carlson giving them the finger on the way to his corner. Carlson goes for the same strategy in Round 2, but he sticks his neck out too far and Makar sinks in a guillotine choke. He's got it in tight and he won't let go even as Carlson tries to slam him down the canvas. Carlson's working to fight the choke, but it's not enough time and not enough air. He taps! TODD MAKAR is your Hybrid CC middleweight champion! Todd Makar def. Brad Carlson by submission (guillotine choke) at 0:31 of Round 2.

Main Event, Lightweight Championship: Lee Wood vs. Kamil Rušil

Wood is the highly touted fighter of this bout, the heavy favorite with two quick submission victories. It's widely expected that this is his coronation. He's a dangerous striker who isn't afraid to be on the ground. Rušil was the guy who got the call to fight out of the blue corner, and although he had a solid victory over Beñat Felip, he hasn't fought since and he is easily the most untested fighter to get a title shot. But these two men go to war. Wood's style is more angular and explosive, Rušil's is clean, flowy, and compact. Rušil sets the tone early with a front kick that splits the guard of Wood, and it is on. For his submission pedigree, Wood rarely attempts to get the fight to the ground, and this becomes a brawl for the ages. It appears Rušil takes one and three, Wood two and four. We get to the fifth round and both men are battered. Wood's nose is broken and his lip is busted. Rušil can't see out of his swollen left eye and has to lie to pass the doctor's test to fight the final five minutes. It's incredibly close, with each man scoring a knockdown in the final frame and swinging until the very end, and the crowd is roaring at the end! The first judge, Benito Mitchell, scores it 48-47 Rušil. The second judge, Daniel Boyd, scores it 48-47 Wood. The third judge, Mikel Pineda, scores the bout 48-47 for your winner, by split decision, and your new Hybrid CC Lightweight Champion... KAMIL RUŠIL! Rušil collapses in disbelief and joy, while Wood swears and spikes his mouthpiece on the ground. It's hard to know what's next for this division, but I don't think anyone would mind seeing this fight again. But for now, Kamil Rušil def. Lee Wood by split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47).

Hybrid CC 9: Komarova vs. Savchuk

We're back in Athens to make some more history! Two more Grand Prix tournaments conclude tonight, and at the end of it all, we will have our first two female champions! We'll highlight some other exciting women's prospects as well as a handful of ranked men vying for title shots. It's time!

(Fights are listed in the order in which they are fought, with the main event last.)

Preliminary Card
Bantamweight: Erzhan Yeldosev def. Anker Busk by submission (rear-naked choke) at :18 of Round 2.

Yeldosev and Busk both fought at Smut Island in the developing bantamweight division, with Busk registering a win and Yeldovsev a loss, but neither with the kind of performance to make or break their contender hopes. But Yeldosev changed that with a crisp, complete performance. In a battle of two wrestling-heavy fighters, Yeldosev showed the better striking and picked apart Busk both on the feet and then pummeled him on the ground. Then, Yeldosev's very first jab of the second round rocked Busk and had him rolling to cover, and Yeldosev wasted no time sinking in the hooks and the rear-naked choke. Busk tapped and looked bewildered at the sudden turn in events, and to be honest, so were we, but an aggressive and impactful performance from Yeldosev.

Featherweight: Thomas Maynard def. Hassan Penchev by TKO (punches) at 1:24 of Round 1.

Maynard has had a rough go so far, losing two five-round wars to Wil Wells and then to hot prospect Les Langdon. But he is one of the guys to watch in the division and Maynard showed just how many levels he is above a regional bantamweight. The poor kid Penchev never stood a chance, with Maynard bringing his trademark pressure and finally getting someone to wilt. Maynard quickly was bouncing Penchev off the cage with powerful hooks to the body and crosses to the head. Michelle Dye smartly recognized that Penchev was no longer defending himself on his feet and Maynard at last gets his first Hybrid win.

Women's Flyweight: Chloe Owens def. Vicki Tyson by TKO (punches and elbows) at 4:35 of Round 2.

Once Owens found her range and managed to stuff the takedowns from Tyson, it was one-way traffic by the time the second round rolled around. Owens even managed to get a takedown of her own off the clinch, and from there brought down some ground and pound. The referee Jennifer Schueller gave Tyson every opportunity, but the last flurry from Owens went completely undefended and Schueller had no choice. Owens moves to 2-0 in the flyweight division and becomes one of a handful of people looking to get a shot at the winner of tonight's final.

Bantamweight: Rustem Bolatov def. Bas Overkempe by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

A surprise rematch of a fight between two bantamweights as a result of a last-minute replacement. Bolatov previously submitted Overkempe in the second round on Smut Island, and was rumored to face Quebecois prospect Owen McDermott, but there was a schedule change. Overkempe was hungry for another shot at Bolatov and Bolatov was gracious enough to give him that opportunity. This fight was much more evenly matched, but Bolatov's tight dirty boxing style gradually overtook Overkempe's longer kickboxing game and Bolatov's knees to the body and uppercuts were particularly impactful. We don't really learn much that we didn't already know here. Bolatov needs a new challenge - possibly McDermott down the road - and Overkempe deserves a fresh face to get back on track.

Women's Strawweight: Helene Morin-Chaissac (QUE) def. Yasmin Young by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

The former Quebecois Olympic wrestler looked at ease in all aspects of the game. It was no secret that Young was going to try to overpower Morin-Chaissac early with body and leg kicks, but the wrestler's defense was well up to par and she landed some solid jabs and straights that kept Young somewhat at bay. From there, it was all HMC as she lifted and dragged a tired Young wherever she pleased, drawing some cheers and appreciation for a few high-powered slams that really seemed to do a bit of a damage. For someone with little experience throwing hands, it was an impressive Hybrid debut and HMC may well become the first star of this new weight class.

Women's Featherweight: Lilly Uhe def. Valeriya Konstantinova (GTU) by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

About as extreme of a striker-grappler battle as you'll get. Konstantinova is a young boxing champion looking to cross over to MMA and increase her already substantial popularity. Uhe is a pure jiu-jitsu specialist who likes to play around from bottom guard. It was a truly bizarre fight, but Konstantinova was generally unable to handle the whole MMA picture and Uhe baffled the youngster both by pulling Konstantinova down to the ground and also landing some unorthodox hooks and kicks once she had her opponent off-balance. Konstantinova showed the extent of her impressive skills at moments in the middle of the fight and managed to tough her way out of a few triangle chokes and leglocks, but Uhe's distinctive approach got her the win, and Konstantinova will have to go back home and train her grappling defense.

Main Card

Welterweight: Hector Arroyo def. Manuel Degas by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-26).

Arroyo and Degas were both bounced early from the Grand Prix, but have since recovered with wins, and the winner is potentially looking at getting themselves into a big fight, even a title eliminator. Although the first round was too close to the call, the rest of the fight very much was not, Arroyo getting inside Degas' range and knocking him down multiple times in the second round with a nasty uppercut, then a liver shot that has Degas fighting to survive and gasping for air on the stool after the second round. Arroyo took the safe route in the third round and took Degas to the ground, controlling him smartly and continuing to bust up Degas' face until the final bell. Arroyo is the one who picks up the two-fight win streak - and he arguably shouldn't have lost his first fight.

Welterweight: Mudario Dias def. #5 Ghougas Kassarjian by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

We move slightly further up the totem pole, with fifth-ranked Ghougas Kassarjian putting his rank on the line against Mudario Dias. Kassarjian gave the champ Diego Gusman his toughest fight before Gusman went and got the belt, while Dias was a post-Grand Prix signing who got a highlight knockout against Rashan Renouf before getting submitted by Salvador Maidana. So both men came in looking to regain momentum. But it was Dias with the more effective takedowns and top control, and he built a substantial lead through ten minutes. Kassarjian landed some nice push kicks and continued to attack Dias' body in the third round, tiring Dias and putting him in the position just to make it to the final bell. But he got the job done and Dias should have a number next to his name tomorrow. Fights against Velez or Toussaint are potentially on the table next.

Middleweight: #2 Sultan Muratov def. #3 Ashton Lake (CDO) by submission (kneebar) at 1:21 of Round 1.

Ashton Lake is one of a handful of foreign prospects looking to make his way up the rankings, and with the state of the middleweight division, it appears that he was going to get a shot at Todd Makar with a win here. But Sultan Muratov, the powerful wrestler with heavy hands, drew a line in the sand between the two. He looked faster, stronger, and far more confident, and he stalked his prey before going in for the kill, getting a takedown within seconds and advancing to mount position. He made it to Lake's back and although Lake managed to work his way halfway off, creating a sort of stalemate, Muratov quickly attacked the left leg and bent it back, earning a frantic tap from Lake. Muratov promptly let go, sparing his opponent the most serious injury but leaving his defeated opponent on the ground in the indignity of a lopsided defeat. Co-main Event, Women's Flyweight Grand Prix Final and Championship: Leia Zeka vs. Naja Farah

Here we go - the first women's championship bout in Hybrid history! Farah is a huge favorite for this one, but Eloise Taylor showed us she can be pushed to the limit, and Zeka is the kind of fighter who can do that. Zeka clearly felt comfortable putting on the pressure early and pushing the pace, taking the blueprint from Taylor and preventing Farah from finding her range early. Farah managed to work her way into the fight with the leg kicks, slowing down Zeka and limiting her ability to close the distance. And in the second half of the fight, it was all Farah, beginning to cash in on her investments to the legs and body and staggering Zeka in each of the championship rounds with a head kick. There was no doubt that Farah had done more damage on the balance, but had she taken control early enough to get the nod? Survey says... NAJA FARAH by unanimous decision! Zeka's corner is furious, thinking they had the first three rounds, but Farah showed the championship capability, and if anything, Farah should've been given more credit for her work in the third round. Main Event, Women's Bantamweight Grand Prix Final and Championship: Martina Komarova vs. Anina Savchuk

It doesn't get better than this for a main event - two tall, athletic, powerful, skilled, and violent women, truly the best that Hybrid has to offer. Komarova has always been the darling of the promotion and this is her second main event, but Savchuk has brutally and systematically broken down two high-level fighters with her powerful punches and kicks, and she sets out to do the same to Komarova, stunning the grappler multiple times with body shots in the first round. Komarova becomes more adept and moving in and out of range, defending the kicks, and taking her chances wisely to take Savchuk down to the ground. However, in the third and fourth rounds, Savchuk made her own adjustments and caught Komarova rushing in, landing knees up the middle as well as uppercuts, but it made the fight much more even as Savchuk looked significantly less comfortable trying to counter-strike instead of leading the dance. Meanwhile, Komarova knew she had to push out of her comfort zone to take the lead, but it meant she was taking more chances than she was used to and was getting punished as a result. However, Komarova was the fighter who looked more comfortable and had more endurance in the fifth round, finally landing some significant control time both in the clinch and on the ground. It appeared that Savchuk had at first outstruck Komarova in round three. So who had round four? That round, by unanimous decision, went to... ANINA SAVCHUK.
