M-11M "Samaritan" Armoured Ambulance

Postby Lauzanne » Thu Jun 17, 2021 6:58 am

M-11M "SAMARITAN" ARMOURED AMBULANCE

Image

OVERVIEW

Alongside the W-Chassis, the T-Chassis was constructed to be used by LDF Heavy Mechanized Battalions and larger brigade elements. Lauzanne had experience with both the BVP M-80 and BMP-2 IFV's, and although Lauzanne liked the M-80, the collapse of the Yugoslav state killed any chance of indigenous production or ordering from the war-torn country. Thus, the option was taken to carry out the contract internally. Requirements listed that a Brigade size element could reliably use the same chassis, same engine and as many similar components as possible. Torun Machine Plant won the contract in 2011, and production has continued to this day.

Unlike the W-Chassis, the T-Chassis uses a single common chassis, all variants have five evenly spaced roadwheels and the same LTD6-16 16L inline-6 engine. However, they do both share a common set of features, with only minor differences between some (the reconnaissance vehicle mounting an additional LRS-2 "Bat" radar system, as an example). Otherwise, they share armaments, turrets and even roof hatches. Commonality of engines apart from displacement allows for a common head, turbocharger and other systems to be utilised, streamlining logistics even further, and the compact form-factor of the engines ensures excellent internal space.

Equipped for medical units to be able to extract injured soldiers in high risk areas, the Samaritan Armoured Ambulance is built off of an armoured chassis designed to withstand up to 30mm cannons. Built with flexibility in mind, it can transport up to 4 sitting passengers on either row of seats, or 2 stretcher passengers. Space is set aside for medical supplies as well as two medics in the front section beside the vehicle commander.

M-11I "HUNCHBACK" MORTAR CARRIER

Image

Otherwise, they share armaments, turrets and even roof hatches. Commonality of engines apart from displacement allows for a common head, turbocharger and other systems to be utilised, streamlining logistics even further, and the compact form-factor of the engines ensures excellent internal space.

Utilised alongside Heavy Mechanized brigades to provide indirect fire support, the Hunchback carries a simple mortar and it's crew. Integration of a Battle Management System or BMS has allowed for easier relaying of targets for fire missions, and the entire vehicle can be set up to fire within two minutes, reducing the risk of counterbattery fire significantly. As sold, the Hunchback comes with one of two mortar options.

The HM-1A "Vasilek"is an 82mm automatic gun-mortar that can be breech or muzzle fed either in single shots or in 4-shot clips. With a maximum range approaching 4,300m, the Vasilek is perfect for laying down rapid-fire supporting artillery for a manoeuvre unit engaged in battle or to lay down a quick and effective smoke screen.

The HM-1 "Kalina" is a 120mm muzzle-loaded mortar capable of sustaining 4 rounds per minute. Range is increased to 7,200m effective.

SPECS

With the exception of the Tor, the 9K35 "Strela 10" (NATO REPORTING NAME: SA-13 GOPHER) is the most common Surface to Air missile mounted on vehicles in the LDF. However, while the design was part of the initial lineup, it was rejected in favour of the Guardian-T and 9K330 Tor Systems. However, despite this rejection, the system is still available for sale in export.

The system is a short-range, infra-red guided missile launcher that only uses the radar present on the deployable mast to range targets, with a maximum range of 10km. The missiles themselves have a maximum range of 5km. Seeking is done by a combination of IR and electro-optical means, allowing the missiles to be used while minimising risk of detection and attack by aircraft carrying out Suppression of Enemy Air Defence missions.

LD-2 Laser Designator/Thermal Sight

Postby Lauzanne » Mon Sep 20, 2021 3:31 pm

LD-2 LASER DESIGNATOR/THERMAL OPTIC SYSTEM

Image

OVERVIEW

With the acquisition of the American AN/PED-1 denied, the LDF sought out more local sources for sighting systems. Infantry units at the time lacked an organic capability to designate laser guided munitions fired from air force planes. With the upcoming introduction of the Groza and development of indigenous laser guided bombs, the LD-2 was developed to allow for designation of such targets from foot-mobiles.

Combining a day camera, an IR sensor, GPS module, laser rangefinder and designator as well as a digital compass, the LD-2 is capable of designating targets at night or day at a range over 5km, being able to locate targets at 7km. It can operate for 24 hours on a single common military battery.

SPECS

Name: LD-2

XB-7 "Tilter" Tactical Bomber/XB-7E EW Aircraft

Postby Lauzanne » Tue Sep 21, 2021 1:42 pm

XB-7 "TILTER" TACTICAL BOMBER

Image

OVERVIEW

One of the first planes to come out of Lauzanne's Soarer Project in the 1990's, the XB-7 "Tilter" project was one of the last in the project list but one of the first to be developed and fielded. Utilising variable geometry wings, new materials and the latest Alyuka Electric AE-110 engine series, the Tilter bears a striking resemblance to both the Russian Su-24 and the American F-111. Despite visual similarities, the design could be considered "inspired" at best by the EF-111A for some years as a replacement.

With a crew of 4 (Pilot, Co-Pilot, Weapon Systems Officer, Navigator), each member of the flight team can dedicate themselves wholly to their task. Fly-by-wire, advanced radar, a digital navigation and attack system, as well as up to 14 pylons to support any manner of missiles or bombs for interdiction, bombing, or stand-off missile deployment with a high range.

The version that ended up adopted by the LAF is the XB-7E, a variant developed specifically for electronic warfare capability. With two Electronic Countermeasure Officers replacing the Navigator and WSO. The central bay is fitted with a large electronic warfare module and provisions are made for the mounting and use of anti-radiation missiles on SEAD missions.

AH-3 "Sparrow" Attack Helicopter

Postby Lauzanne » Tue Sep 21, 2021 3:07 pm

AH-3 "SPARROW" ATTACK HELICOPTER

Image

OVERVIEW

With the perceived faults of Lauzanne's Ka-52 gunships, with lacking sensors, radars and cannon armament, a study was conducted on other gunships that were available for sale. Concluding that many were not available for purchase or insufficient to meet needs. To fulfil these requirements, Sokoa Lauzanne was contracted with Proposal A-301, which later became the AH-3.

The AH-3 retains the high agility of the design it's intended to replace thanks to a coaxial rotor system, allowing a more compact design compared to a conventional tail rotor design. Using a tandem cockpit allows the helicopter to be narrower, reducing frontal profile. There is no provision to carry passengers, instead being focussed entirely on the attack helicopter role. A 3rd generation FLIR sits above the pilot's cockpit, giving the crew an excellent view and allowing them to observe an area without showing the main body of the helicopter.

"Arbalest" SPAA Vehicle

Postby Lauzanne » Tue Oct 19, 2021 3:52 am

"ARBALEST" SPAA VEHICLE

Image

OVERVIEW

Although the T-Chassis and W-Chassis vehicles were offered with Strela-10 missiles and in a gun/missile configuration for close defence, the LDF rejected them due to their lack of performance compared to the currently used Tunguska, Tor and Strela-10 launchers already mounted on the Soviet vintage MT-LB chassis. However, as with most military projects Lauzanne had running, things changed with the Spring War.

The widespread use of drones on both sides, along with analysts finding the trend in modern conflicts leading towards drones, a requirement was put forward for the next AA vehicle to be able to engage slow moving UAVs. Rather than use more expensive missiles custom-developed for the task, Blanchard Manufacturing revisited the [urlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZP_S-60]AZP S-60's[/url] that Lauzanne had long since retired. Given the extremely heavy rounds compared to smaller 30 and 35mm ammunition used by the West, it allowed for a much more effective airburst that was less affected in explosive power by the circuitry within. This, combined with an electro-optical targeting system, search and track radar and backup laser rangefinding methods allowed the prototype to engage and destroy a variety of commercial and military drones in engagements that lasted for two shots. With the gun's introduction to the armed forces, it received the designation AC-57.

Complimenting the AC-57 is a set of eight A-SM-311L missiles located in two racks of four on either side of the turret. Derived from the 9M311 missiles used on the Tunguska, they were designed with cost effectiveness in mind. Equipped with a longer booster stage, the maximum range is 15km, with engagement height from 5m AGL to 3,500m. Probability of kill is roughly 0.7.

Complimenting the system is the EW-6M early warning radar, allowing the vehicle to detect and track targets at 20km with the absense of a battery control radar.

The customer can choose if they want their vehicles to be tracked or wheeled.

M-08R "Shkval" Heavy MLRS

Postby Lauzanne » Mon Nov 22, 2021 7:11 am

M-08R "SHKVAL" HEAVY MULTIPLE LAUNCH ROCKET SYSTEM

Image

OVERVIEW

With the march of Lauzannean industry pointing it towards more indigenous designs and streamlining from the Soviet leftover equipment, even iconic weapons such as the BM-30 were facing retirement or replacement. Despite modernising since then, the LDF has always had a strong focus on it's artillery, complimenting it's varied array of conventional tube artillery with rocket artillery systems to allow for maximum flexibility when supporting Lauzannean formations.

With the change in platform also prompted the ability to enhance the system as a whole, with designers digitising the fire control and communications systems, as well as allowing for battle management system integration. Although most munitions of the BM-30 era are still usable, the ability to fire GPS and laser guided rockets with unmatched precision, allowing for the destruction of high priority targets out to 90km. Faster response times and an easier setup also allow the Shkval (Lauzannean: Squall) to quickly deploy large numbers of rockets on target, equipped with a new transloader vehicle allowing reloads to be completed within 15 minutes.

The ShAZ TR-10 chassis is the main transportation unit for the vehicle, bringing high parts commonality to the rest of the truck fleet the LDF is phasing in. Ballistic protection, run-flat tyres and a variant of the Tatra inline suspension allows for superior cross-country mobility. Protection for the crew and any spare passengers allow for protection should the battery come under fire from small arms or hostile artillery.

A typical LDF rocket artillery battery would consist of 9 launchers in 3 platoons of three, plus 9 transloader vehicles, one command post and two artillery reconnaissance variants of either the M-10 wheeled chassis or M-11 tracked chassis.

M-08 "Mak" Wheeled Artillery

Postby Lauzanne » Mon Nov 22, 2021 3:23 pm

M-08 "MAK" WHEELED ARTILLERY SYSTEM

Image

OVERVIEW

Lauzanne post-Refusal War had inherited many towed and SP artillery pieces from the Exiles as well as the old People's Republic government. Examples include the 2A18, Gvozdika and Msta models, to name a few. Given this wide variety of cannons, the decision was made as part of ongoing reforms to standardise around the upgraded 2A65ML, with both towed and SP versions known as the Mak.

With a re-designed and lengthened 50-calibre barrel, new digitised fire control system, re-designed turret with new autoloader, Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact capability, a modular charge system and the ability to automatically deploy or pack for travel in a couple of minutes, the Mak is a truly modern piece of artillery.

The entire system is placed onto a ShAZ TR-8 truck, allowing for excellent cross country mobility, lower fuel consumption, lower costs and easy maintenance when compared to other vehicles in it's class. STANAG level 3 protection and a mine-resistant design allows the vehicle to protect the crew from small arms fire, some anti vehicle mines, IEDs and other conceivable threats. A cupola on the frontal cab also allows for the fitting of a machine gun of the user's choice.

The Mak generally is part of an artillery battalion that is attached to a Brigade. Such battalions consist of three batteries of 6 Mak pieces, complemented by 6 Visyan MLRS launchers along with associated support such as ammunition trucks, command and reconnaissance vehicles and other personnel.

ShAZ "PoLa" UTT-06 Universal Truck Family

Postby Lauzanne » Wed Nov 24, 2021 6:45 am

SHAZ "PoLa" UTT-06 TRUCK FAMILY

Image

OVERVIEW

With the LDF in a position to shed the complicated mess of relics of the past, one of the first contracts issued was to develop a family of trucks that would supply and carry the LDF, as well as form the basis for many future specialised vehicles in service. Competition began in earnest between Schovajsa Avtomobilny Zavod (ShAZ), Orel Avtomobilny Zavod (OAZ) and Torun Machine Plant. The contract was fully initiated in 2004 when ShAZ won the contract to supply thousands of trucks for the LDF, with specialist variants to follow on that would replace the older trucks of various makers in service.

Accepted into service as the M-06 with variants A through D to denote the specific drivetrain, the M-06 saw initial deployment to Afghanistan where the bomb protection, well-optimised drivetrain, fuel efficient engine and air conditioning was welcomed by the troops. Although not completely replacing the fleet of trucks and systems in time for the Spring War of 2013, they still served with distinction, primarily through the M-08 artillery.

The PoLa uses an armoured cab rated for STANAG Level 3, with a V-Hull underneath to ensure maximum protection of the crew from IED and mine blasts. For ease of maintenance, the cab tilts forwards to allow easy access to the engine bay. Three people can sit in the front bench seat, and the option of a manual or automatic transmission is considered for potential customers. For improved off-road performance, a licensed version of Tatra's inline suspension system is utilised for all trucks, allowing for excellent cross-country speeds and comfortable driving.

Forming the basis for many specialised vehicles afterwards, the PoLa is sure to form the backbone of any armed force that takes it.

LH-3 "Strekulă" Light Utility Helicopter

Postby Lauzanne » Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:07 am

LH-3A "STREKULĂ" LIGHT UTILITY HELICOPTER

Image

OVERVIEW

Lauzanne has long since had an issue with different branches using different helicopter models. While the regular Army has used the Aérospatiale Gazelle since the late 70's, the Gotovy preferring the more passenger-oriented Mi-2 for it's operations. An increase in parts, along with using two types of helicopters that became increasingly obsolete would not do and in the early 2000's, a contract was placed for the LH-2000 program to develop a unified light utility helicopter with capability for anti tank, light anti aircraft and infantry support roles, as well as transport and reconnaissance duties. Novograd Aviation won the contract and the type was accepted as the LH-3 Strekulă (Lauzannean: Dragonfly)

The Strekulă comes in two variants, with both offered for usage: the conventional fenestron-tailed LH-3A, and the NOTAR equipped LH-3B. Up to six passengers can sit in the main compartment, and two pylon mounts are present for the use of rocket pods, guided missiles, gun pods or additional fuel tanks. Enhanced optics are provided by a ball on the front of the helicopter, shared with the MH-2 "Orel" helicopter. A retractable landing gear allows for quick landing in many conditions and the ability to move the helicopter without placing it on a specialised moving system, while retaining high aerodynamic capability and agility. The NOTAR version has a near 50% reduction in noise, allowing for a lower profile entry or exit from the area. A glass cockpit allows for streamlined pilot operations, and the exhausts are mixed with cold air to lower IR signature.

MH-2 "Orel" Medium Utility Helicopter

Postby Lauzanne » Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:40 am

MH-2 "OREL" MEDIUM UTILITY HELICOPTER

Image

OVERVIEW

With the end of the Refusal War and the darn of a new age, even as the Peace Dividend caused the downsizing of many European militaries, the NH90 that was originally conceived in the 1980s continued on, with Lauzanne joining the project in 1993 to standardise onto a new medium lift helicopter due to the old standard, the Mi-8 now being difficult to acquire parts for. With a first flight in 1995, the project was promising, even if it was delayed significantly. Adopted as the MH-2 by the Army and Air Force, with a Navy version to follow on, the helicopters were famously lambasted in Lauzannean press for years after they achieved IOC in 2008 for a seemingly never-ending list of technical faults and restrictions, anonymous leaks and doubts cast by foreign and local media on their ability to perform in a war.

The Spring War was the true proving ground that forged the MH-2 and the larger NH90 fleet into being a battle-proven design, with local parts manufacturing and better maintenance ironing out most of the troubles the design had. Used famously by the 3rd Airborne and 6th Air Assault, low-altitude insertions, humanitarian aid to civilians, air assaults on RSA strongpoints and casualty evacuations distinguished the design against its comparatively old Mi-8 also in service at the time.

A rear bay and sliding side doors allow for quick embarking and disembarking of soldiers, as well as mounting of a winch, fast roping gear or door guns for additional flexibility. The bay is wide enough for suiting a wide range of configurations of equipment and soldiers, lending itself well for more specialised roles such as ELINT, a flying hospital or a command post.

MH-2N "Petrel" Naval Helicopter

Postby Lauzanne » Fri Jan 28, 2022 12:20 pm

MH-2N "PETREL" NAVAL HELICOPTER

Image

OVERVIEW

With the Ka-27 falling prey to the same fate that hit the Mi-8 fleet the Army had, the Navy sought to also acquire the navalised version of the NH90, then in development and roll-out. Originally flown off the helicopter decks of the Federatsiy-class and Oradea-class warships, the rest of the Navy used the Ka-27 until new ships with larger hangar and flight deck space were commissioned. Accepted in 2009, the helicopter saw limited Spring War use, along with various anti-piracy actions abroad.

The main differences compared to the land-based MH-2 are primarily internal, with the addition of an AESA radar section under the fuselage, along with adding a dipping sonar and deployable sonobuoys for ASW missions as needed. Fastroping equipment is also available for marine boarding teams, along with the fitment of pylons allowing use of anti ship missiles or depth charges.

XD-6R "Black Albatross" HALE UAV

Postby Lauzanne » Fri Jan 28, 2022 1:29 pm

XD-6R "BLACK ALBATROSS" HALE UAV

Image

OVERVIEW

Referred to as the "Kite" by ground crews that were assigned to these machines, the XD-6R rose to prominence in the latter years of the Spring War, along with it's "Official" unveiling in the 2021 Independence Day Parade. Many operations in 2018 and 2019 were carried out under the watchful eye of these stealthy and graceful birds, and many soldiers will say they owe their lives to the Black Albatross and many UAVs like them.

The Black Albatross sports a very wide wingspan with a modest body, often called a lozenge by the ground crew. RAM, a low observable shape and a top-mounted intake give the Black Albatross an impressively low RCS. In some flight tests, the pilots reported having to actually see the drone to detect it, along with tests against simulated medium and long-range SAM batteries showing little in the way of observability.

The Black Albatross has three mission bays, which are typically fitted with Synthetic Aperture Radars and IR imaging equipment, allowing for a broad spectrum of reconnaissance work to be performed, as well as tracking movements of Brigade and larger elements. Other options can include more traditional radars as well as ELINT equipment for detecting hostile SAM sites for DEAD operations.

With an order for the LAF to replace the older MiG-21R in the reconnaissance role, along with impressive endurance and sensors, the Black Albatross is a gaze into the future of reconnaissance.

M-10R "Mink" Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle

Postby Lauzanne » Thu Feb 24, 2022 3:48 am

M-10R "MINK" ARMOURED RECONNAISSANCE VEHICLE

Image

OVERVIEW

Logistics in the modern battlefield is king. A vehicle without spare parts is useless in combat, and factories cannot split their production too much for fear of congesting supply lines. Lauzanne had to take all of this into account when modernising, seeing as they couldn't rely on Eastern sources anymore due to tense relations, but at the same time no Western country offered a truly universal chassis. As part of the modernisation, plans were drawn for the Army to be based around as few common chassis as possible: A tank/heavy combat vehicle chassis, a wheeled vehicle chassis for lighter mechanised units, a tracked chassis for mechanised infantry to support armour, and later an airborne-specific chassis for the Independent Airborne Brigade usage. Tenders were placed, with the requirement of sharing as many components as possible between the three AFV types and the armour. The W-Chassis was the first to be adopted, replacing old Soviet-era BTR's, OT-65's and BRDMs among others with a modern indigenous design built by the relatively new Schovajsa Heavy Industry.

The lightest vehicle of the W-Chassis family, the M-10R, otherwise known as the Mink is the vehicle replacing the older Czech OT-65 and BRDM-2. Although both were capable reconnaissance vehicles in their time, using a modern vehicle with many shared parts, along with supporting a newer architecture, engine and equipment lead to the swift adoption of the Mink.

Weighing in at 13.5 tons, the vehicle nearly doubles the weight of the venerable BRDM, but for good reason. Adding a rear troop compartment, a mast camera, better protection and better self-defence capability was deemed worthwhile for the vehicle, allowing it to protect itself and scout from more advantageous positions such as behind cover or hills, allowing greater concealment.

The crew consists of four, with a Driver and Commander sitting up front, Gunner in the turret, Systems Operator behind him, and a small troop compartment for three scouts, who can dismount with equipment such as a ground surveillance radar or laser designators if need be.

M-10A "Hussar-U" Armoured Personnel Carrier

Postby Lauzanne » Thu Feb 24, 2022 3:57 am

M-10A "HUSSAR-U" ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIER

Image

Complementing the Hussar, the Hussar-U is the standard wheeled personnel carrier of the LDF. Sacrificing a turret for additional carrying capacity, the Motor Rifle units of the LDF lose out on firepower but gain space for carrying larger equipment. Mechanized units find themselves a better transport for Weapons Platoons, since the turret is usually surplus to what is needed.

With additional space and a reduced crew requirement, the crew for the vehicle only consists of a Driver and Crew Commander. With 10 seats and a lot more space, personnel often find themselves with additional weaponry to use, given the vehicle itself only has a cupola or RWS mount with which to defend itself.

W-CHASSIS UNIVERSAL WHEELED COMBAT VEHICLE SERIES

Image

The W-Chassis was the first to be adopted, replacing old Soviet-era BTR's, OT-65's and BRDMs among others with a modern indigenous design built by the relatively new Schovajsa Heavy Industry.

Used in the AA battalions for Light Mechanized Brigades, the Guardian-W utilises twin AA guns and four short-range AA missiles to protect formations on the tactical level. The turret is fitted with two radars, an E Band radar located on top of the turret for target acquisition, with a J-Band tracking radar on front of the turret to detect aircraft flying from 15m-3,500m in altitude and at a maximum range of 25km detection and 18km tracking ranges. The radars are designed to work even with high levels of electronic interference.

For armament, the Guardian-W utilises a pair of modified Oerlikon GDF-001 cannons firing 35mm ammunition, and four canisters for the Strela-S missile. Developed from the Russian 9M311 missiles. Maximum range of 9km.

M-10I "SWAYBACK" Mortar Carrier

The W-Chassis was the first to be adopted, replacing old Soviet-era BTR's, OT-65's and BRDMs among others with a modern indigenous design built by the relatively new Schovajsa Heavy Industry.

Utilised alongside Light Mechanized brigades to provide indirect fire support, the Swayback carries a simple mortar and it's crew. Integration of a Battle Management System or BMS has allowed for easier relaying of targets for fire missions, and the entire vehicle can be set up to fire within two minutes, reducing the risk of counterbattery fire significantly. As sold, the Swayback comes with one of two mortar options.

The M-10H Armoured Command Vehicle is a fairly simple concept. Adding an APU on the roof, as well as extra radio sets and various battle management systems allows a company, battalion or even a brigade commander to co-ordinate actions across the entire given unit.

The interior allows for several staff officers to sit and also work. Armaments are pintle mounted.
