[PASSED] Commend One Small Island (the second)

Postby Morover » Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:03 am

The World Assembly Security Council,

Watching the waves crash along the beautiful shores of One Small Island, a bright and golden oasis that has dedicated its existence to the protection and restoration of the realm's most treacherous and unstable warzones,

Confident in this body's previous respect and recognition for the exceptional difficulties that face the dedicated and indelible leaders of warzones,

Touting the astounding work that OSI put into the region of Warzone Sandbox during their term as delegate (the longest consecutive delegacy of any Warzone nation), inspiring nation (400+) and endorsement (125+) numbers unheard of in such an unstable atmosphere, showing exemplary political finesse and dedication to bettering the region, in doing so securing and legitimizing both Warzone Sandbox and warzones all across the realm,

Admiring OSI’s creation and maintenance of the Fa’a Warzone Sandbox - one of the most intricate and thematically apt regional Constitutions in the multiverse - which established the Sandcastle Kingdom and brought in a new era of prosperity and democracy previously unthinkable in Warzone regions,

Impressed by their accomplished political foresight, being able to stall certain political processes when they became a net-negative for a region without alienating any constituents or political leaders, which can be seen through the various changes to founding documents as the region changed and certain forms of government become unviable - an astounding feat given the volatile nature of politics,

Amazed by OSI's work in introducing and being a leader in the Warzone Control Council, a body that would bring new vigor to Warzone Australia and allow it to grow into a flourishing region among the Warzones, allowing the region to become the second-largest Warzone region by endorsement count and helping to establish a native population, while still committing to their autonomy,

Lauding their creation of the Warzone Empire, a multiregional organization established to encourage activity across the Warzones, without infringing on the sovereignty of established Warzones and bringing this niche area of NationStates into a golden era that cannot be overlooked or made negative, despite what other connotations of the word “empire” may imply,

Acclaiming OSI's extensive military accomplishments, as seen through the large-scale introduction of the Warzones to the world of defending, further demonstrating the size that Warzone Sandbox achieved to be able to sacrifice endorsements to engage, and extending the positive nature of its community across the multiverse through such operations as:
  1. Several defenses of Warzone Sandbox against numerous major raiding organizations, ensuring that the natives of Warzone Sandbox maintain their regional rights against hostile foreign forces,
  2. The liberations of several other Warzones, including Warzone Africa and Warzone Asia, among others, which have saved countless native communities and ensured the success of Warzones for many years to come,
  3. Participation in large-scale foreign defender operations, including the liberation of Trovons, the liberation of China, and participation in several counter-sieges on A Liberal Haven, all of which displays an extended defender presence that contributes to the world at large,

Believing in OSI’s abilities to bring in foreign allies beyond the Warzones, an ability achieved by few Warzone politicians, which can be seen through relationships forged with notable regions such as the Rejected Realms, 10000 Islands, Caer Sidi, The Order of the Grey Wardens, and most notably The League, a friendship that has culminated in the creation of The Golden Eagle Pact, a treaty negotiated in major part by OSI,

Sponsoring one of OSI’s most selfless missions to congratulate featured regions via their patronage of A Giant Meteor, bringing their goodwill to regions and nations across the multiverse for over two years,

Sighing lovingly at OSI’s commitment to the fine arts, which can be seen through their curation of numerous international artwork exhibits, including a gallery of over 1600 portraits of men entitled “My Doods”, a child-like collection highlighting the innocence of youth known as “The Refrigerator Door”, a small but pristine conglomeration of butterfly-related works called “Butterfly in the Sky”, a scientific exhibition of frog artwork lovingly dubbed “The Exalted Ones”, and many more,

And smiling at the fact that even a nation traversing the political landscapes of one of the most dangerous regions can have the most beautiful of sunsets,

Hereby commends One Small Island.

Co-Author: Thousand Branches

To be submitted following Thousand Branches' repeal. There are still a few changes I'm looking at but I figured getting this here sooner rather than later can't hurt. Let me know!

The only thing I can see off a quick read is "Lauding over". "Lauding" would work just fine and I'm not sure "Lauding over" is grammatically correct.

Else, support in principle. This does a much better job in communicating the tangible achievements of OSI. I look forward to recommending For (I hope) this time around. :)

I think both of these are kind of fluffy? I think you should axe "Impressed" as you've already got a solid proposal without it.

Aside from that, full support :)

I honestly disagree here. I would try to be more specific, at least on the second, but they’re hardly fluffy clauses.

Made some changes! I agree with Hulldom on the fluff of the two clauses Apato listed, but I did add some more detail into the second of the two (let me know your thoughts - personally, I think it would be better if it remained vague, but I'm willing to play around with it). I also changed the second subclause of "Acclaiming" to hopefully make it a tad less listy, but let me know what you think.

Thanks for the support everyone!

I plan to submit this if/when the repeal is passed, barring further feedback. I’m not opposed to pushing this back a little if the feedback necessitates it, but I will only do so upon being given such feedback.

It's a good draft, but I think you need to elaborate a bit more on OSI's work and need to reword two or three clauses.

feedback:

Touting the astounding work that OSI put into the region of Warzone Sandbox during their term as delegate (the longest consecutive delegacy of any Warzone nation), inspiring nation (400+) and endorsement (125+) numbers unheard of in such an unstable atmosphere, showing exemplary political finesse and in doing so securing and legitimizing both Warzone Sandbox and warzones all across the realm,

Proposed re-write

"Touting the astounding work that OSI put into the region of Warzone Sandbox during their term as delegate (the longest consecutive delegacy of any Warzone nation), wherein the nominee showed exemplary political finesse and secured Warzone Sandbox by inspiring nation (400+) and endorsement (125+) numbers unheard of in such an unstable atmosphere,"

Rewrite - you loose some stuff though. In general, this clause is a bit too clunky and I think needs some kind of rework, either my own rewrite or something else.

Admiring OSI’s creation of the Fa’a Warzone Sandbox - one of the most intricate and thematically apt regional Constitutions in the multiverse - which established the Sandcastle Kingdom and brought in a new era of prosperity and democracy previously unthinkable in Warzone regions,
Just because someone created something does not mean you can attribute the success of their creation to them. You need to elaborate on what exactly OSI did to make the Fa'a so successful, beyond just creating the Fa'a.

Impressed by their accomplished political foresight, being able to stall certain political processes when they became a net-negative for a region without alienating any constituents or political leaders, which can be seen through the various changes to founding documents as the region changed and certain forms of government become unviable,- an astounding feat given the volatile nature of politics,

dash better here

Amazed by OSI's work in introducing and being a leader in the Warzone Control Council, a body that would bring new vigor to Warzone Australia and allow it to grow into a flourishing region among the Warzones, while still committing to their autonomy,
Explain how OSI's work as a leader helped the Council accomplish that mission. This mostly tells us "OSI was a leader of this place, and this place did some cool stuff". You aren't really explaining if OSI did anything substantial to help the Council complete its directives, and to explain that you need to elaborate on OSI's leadership.

Lauding their creation of the Warzone Empire, a multiregional organization established to encourage activity across the Warzones, without infringing on the sovereignty of established Warzones and bringing this niche area of NationStates into a golden era that cannot be overlooked or made negative, despite what other connotations of the word “empire” may imply,
Same issue as above - you're focusing a bit too much on the impacts of the body OSI created, not what OSI did within the organization to make it successful post-creation. Elaborate on OSI's work in the Empire. How did OSI's work directly bring about this golden era?

Acclaiming OSI's extensive military accomplishments, as seen through the large-scale introduction of the Warzones to the world of defending, further demonstrating the size that Warzone Sandbox achieved to be able to sacrifice endorsements to engage, and extending the positive nature of itsthecommunity across the multiverse through such operations as:
no comma

Several defenses of Warzone Sandbox against numerous major raiding organizations, ensuring that the natives of Warzone Sandbox maintain their regional rights against hostile foreign forces,
I'm not sure if it's a good idea to say Warzoners have regional rights - it's highly arguable as Warzones were created specifically for invasions. Infact, I'm aware of a few voters who were against the original Commend OSI because they didn't really want the SC to put up that concept.

Of course, you do what you will, just my note.

The liberationThe liberations of several other Warzones, including several liberations of Warzones such asWarzone Africa and Warzone Asia, among others, in an valiant multitude ofefforts that has have saved countless native communities and ensured the success of Warzones for many years to come,
some fixes

Believing in OSI’s abilities to bring in foreign allies beyond the Warzones, an ability achieved by few Warzone politicians, as can be seen through relationships forged with notable regions such as the Rejected Realms, 10000 Islands, Caer Sidi, The Order of the Grey Wardens, and most notably The League, a friendship that has culminated in the creation of The Golden Eagle Pact, a treaty negotiated, in major part, by OSI,
This needs a reword as it reads a bit wonky with the way you're splitting your clauses with the commas.

Also, you should explain both why these embassies and the treaty matter to WZSB (culture? Security? etc.)

Sponsoring one of OSI’s most selfless missions to congratulate featured regions via their patronage of A Giant Meteor, bringing their goodwill to regions and nations across the multiverse,

Would add how long OSI has beend oing this if it's a notable timeframe (like a few years)

Sighing lovingly at OSI’s commitment to the fine arts, which can be seen through their curation of numerous international artwork exhibits, including “My Doods”, “The Refridgerator Door”, “Butterfly in the Sky”, “The Exalted Ones”, and many more,

Should specify the collections make it easier to find cards under those themes

I'm going to push this back a few days - I've gotten very busy and don't have the time to properly edit this right now. It won't be pushed too far back, though. There's also some funky business with r/d in the SC right now that I don't want to deal with.

I changed some clauses - Zuk, I couldn't implement a lot of your feedback. For your suggested rewrite of "Touting...", the stuff you left out is arguably the most important imo, and any way I tried to rewrite it substantially that kept that information just kept it worse. For "Admiring..." and "Lauding..." the good part is the creation of these things, and there's really no way to rewrite them without shattering the vibe of those clauses - the rest of the proposal gives their accomplishments as a result of these creations, if that makes sense. "Believing..." I really just couldn't come up with anything better without drastically increasing the character count, beyond our technical capacities. I wish I could've listened closer, but it's gonna be real hard to do drastic rewrites and keep it under 5000.

Everything else I think I handled.

Still super busy but had a break in which I could do this, so I'll put a tentative submission date on the twentieth if nobody else has anything drastic to say.

I still hold that Admiring and Lauding should be directly tied to OSI, as should the Amazed clause - but I understand if it's impossible to write them in such a manner, especially with limited characters and the vibe.

I'll have to think more on whether I'll personally support this or not, but I will say this is a gazillion times better than the previous draft and the first/last clauses themes are lovely. Good luck with this!

The Free Nations Region has voted FOR this proposal:
We believe that this is a well-written commendation for a deserving candidate. Building a community in an inherently unstable warzone region, where the region's community can be destroyed in mere seconds upon invasion, is an extremely impressive feat. Not only has One Small Island built a community in Warzone Sandbox, but they have helped build strong foreign relations beyond merely the warzone sphere, and established a fairly successful military within the region. The proposal's already-strong case for Commendation is bolstered by the nominee's work in building large cards collections and as a featured region follower through the nation A Giant Meteor.
