08/09/2021 - New Ordian president sworn in as tensions over Kozelsk rise
Image
Ziridavan forces on guard near the Ordian border in Kozelsk

Just yesterday, Marko Jánošík was sworn in as Ordia's newest, and youngest president, succeeding Vasily Petrovitch. Marko's inauguration comes at a time of increased tensions in the historically disputed region of Kozelsk, a topic which the new Ordian president had strong opinions on in his inauguration speech. Although some expected tensions to cool after surprisingly lax responses from Vasily's administration, hopes of such a result seem to be diminishing.

President Jánošík stated in his heated speech that by the end of his presidency, the Kozelsk dispute would be "settled", and that Ordia was "under new management". Although some are skeptical on the context of these statements, some in the country believe that Marko is intent on seeing Kozelsk under Ordian control under his presidency. He also vowed that Ordia would not sue for peace on it's own volition in the event of an attack, and would only entertain such negotiations from Ziridavay or a neutral party. However, Marko then stated that he would consider the two country's slates clean, while still threatening action in the event of any violence, including closing embassies. Marko also claims to have compiled a list of responses for any actions, and stated that this was Ziridavan president Evgeni Sergei's "chance".

Although responses throughout the world have been mixed, the Ziridavan government has responded predictably, albeit divided on whether to take the threats seriously. While some of the more center-leaning parties have dismissed the threats as Marko trying to gain more sympathy from Ordia's nationalist population, the ruling Justice & Freedom party has vowed to defend Ziridava's territory. In a statement by the foreign ministry, the situation along the border in Kozelsk would "remain unchanged".

"Despite the new Ordian administration's threats, the Republic of Ziridava Armed Forces has reported no major changes from their positions in Kozelsk. However, forces in the region will remain vigilant for any new developments, and are trusted to respond in kind to any actions taken to threaten our territorial integrity." The Ziridavan MoFA announced this today, as many analysts and experts continue to watch closely at the ever expanding history of Kozelsk.

August 10th 2021 - Daily Briefing - FOR THE PRESIDENT ONLY

Principal Developments

- Ordia has inaugurated Marko Jánošík as it's new president, who made several threats against us in his first speech. These threats mainly revolve around Kozelsk, although there is currently insufficient evidence to suggest that Marko is planning any major action. (Part 1)

- The Ausferilandian military has continued to implore for increased aid to replace hardware lost during the war in December. Specifically, the ANDF has requested for air defense equipment such as SHORADs, probably to counter allied drones. Meanwhile, the Ausferilandian-funded Karschwil Mobilization Force has continued to harass South Kardzhalian forces along the line of contact. Part 2

- As a result of the Veragyor Security Organization's collapse, it is possible that Verdesa may attempt reapproachment with the Vastava Pact. This comes at a time of rising tensions between our republic and Ordia, a major Vastava Pact ally. Verdesa will most likely back Ordia in our dispute with them, as well as increase support for Ausferiland's attempts to take South Kardzhali. Part 3

Part 1 - Ordia, Kozelsk

As the situation on the Kozelsk border intensifies after a lull, the new Ordian president Marko Jánošík was sworn in, and made his inauguration speech. Although most of it was centered on domestic and economic issues, there may be reason for concern on his segment about Kozelsk. In his speech, president Jánošík seems to have prioritized the dispute over Kozelsk. Such threats include the dispute over Kozelsk would be solved by the time he is out of office.

Marko also vowed that, in a hypothetical Ziridavan attack, there will be no ceasefire or negotiation unless we or a presumably neutral party approached his administration first. Responses from allies such as Acronia and Vazandia so far have been limited, although it is expected that they will likely back our right to defend our territorial integrity.

Our intelligence resources, such as SIGINT and HUMINT, have already been tasked with keeping an eye on any Ordian actions which could indicate any future provocations. Although it is too early in Marko's career to predict what is to come, we are not confident that any plans are being created or being played out for an attack on Kozelsk. At worst, we may only see increased OAF activity along the border.

Despite this, Ordian action should not be disregarded as a possibility. Marko Jánošík is young and very nationalistic, even compared to Vasily Petrovitch. Although our renewed Zapazvane exercises should have made it clear that we will not back down from an attack, they are just that, an exercise. At the end of the day, it is the president's decision on which scenario to be preparing for. For now, any OAF and VP movements will continue to be monitored, and the RZAF's alert status will remain unchanged in the meantime.

End Part 1

Kozelsk Dispute Stagnant-Army Increasing Active Units

With a new President Ordia, and also recently elected leader in Ziridava, it didn't take long for both to air their views on the Kozelsk dispute, it also didn't take long for both countries and their respective supporters to trade tough rhetoric, but so far, in the short time since President Marko Jánošík gave his first address, the situation has remained the same. Kozelsk has been known for decades throughout the region for its repeatedly tense and sensitive stand-offs between our two Republics.

So far, President Jánošík has not said much else about Kozelsk but did state that he is seeking to continue significant changes to the military, much of the credit he says goes to his predecessor. He also revealed that out of an abundance of caution, the army would be re-activating a number of units in case of hostilities, but so far there is no word yet on how high the number of active personnel will be. He also made it clear, that through the ministry of foreign affairs, he is willing to meet and negotiate issues.

The Foreign Ministry released a separate statement today thanking many nations, in particular they listed the governments of Stasnov, Granzery, and Gorbatov for their continued and historic support. The statement revealed in a private meeting with ministry officials, Jánošík praised the countries, their governments, and highlighted the impact their help has had in the historic face of military threats.

Military Announces Participation in War Games

A statement from the Department of Defense has announced that an unknown number of troops will be taking part in upcoming Vastava Pact military drills. The troops will be from new units being organized in order to speed up their training and experience, probably in light of recent tensions with Ziridava again over the Kozelsk region. However, the drills will be held in a different nation, not in Ordia. The Ziridavan military recently held their own drills, not far from the border. This is something their government has been criticized for numerous times in the past, to little avail. It is hoped that these drills, while being held, will not increase the chance of attacks by Ziridava

Further Units Organized and Being Deployed

In related news, new further units are being raised and it has been confirmed will be sent to the Kozelsk border, relieving the usual army units that have been deployed there, and they will be able to provide extra assistance to border security. General Pavo Malinovsky has announced the creation of several rapid response units that will be deployed to the Kozelsk border. "Currently I won't detail their exact composition, but they are organized somewhat differently. Their supplied with some of our latest equipment, their highly mobile and independent. We believe deploying these units will also help relieve some work from our Divisions that have been repeatedly deployed in that region. At the end of the day, we have to defend our borders, regardless of what nation sits next door. In the event of conflict they can react quickly but in times of peace perhaps the Ziridavan government will finally recognize we have to keep our side secure, and these units are mainly geared to that." Their deployment it would seem will add on to this latest chapter in the Kozelsk dispute.

08/23/2021 - Clouds of War Gathering Over Kozelsk?

Tensions between Ziridava and Ordia continue to grow as anxiety in the disputed region increases
Image

As both the Ziridavan and Ordian militaries continue to build up their forces in and near Kozelsk respectively, both governments continue to assert their claims over the region as fears of another conflict grow. Ever since the last skirmishes took place in 1994, Kozelsk had seen a period of relative stability, with the odd threat from the Ordian government to take the region back after losing it in 1909. Though after the recent inauguration of Marko Jánošík and Evgeni Sergei, both young and nationalistic presidents of their countries, military movements have spiked in and around the region in just a month alone.

Reports of the Ziridavan armed forces constructing fortifications and digging in have been coming through as of late, with pictures of vehicles being moved in via train being posted on social media as well. Meanwhile, the Ordian military has confirmed that new units have been established near the border, as an Ordian contingent of unknown size was confirmed to be taking part in Vastava Pact military exercises. The general of the Ordian armed forces, Pavo Malinovsky, stated that these forces are "organized somewhat differently", and are "supplied with some of our latest equipment, and highly mobile and independent". Although he claimed that such forces would be created to defend against any nation, Pavo also suggested that the forces would force the Ziridavan government to "finally recognize we have to keep our side secure".

Meanwhile on the Ziridavan side, forces of the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions of the RZAF have been seen buzzing with activity. Both units, which are battle hardened from the 2020 war in Kardzhali, are considered some of the most elite in the Ziridavan ground forces, being equipped with the latest equipment and made up of professional forces. Such equipment includes new Vazandian PZ-4aZ tanks and MWRP-4a MRLS systems, as well as Temischan SSMI-47 portable anti-tank missiles. Other units deployed in the region come from the 104th, 105th, and 106th Mechanized Divisions, which are mostly made up of conscripted forces, and equipped with more common equipment such as the T-74M2V tanks and BMP-23 IFVs.

Meanwhile as both sides continue to face off, the international community has begun to take notice. While countries from EDEN and the Kruppstadt Pact such as Acronia, Temischa, and Vazandia are backing Ziridava; forces of the Vastava Pact continue to back Ordia's claim over the region. As both sides continue to be supported and armed by their respective allies, some fear that Kozelsk may become a domino in an effect that leads to a "Second Parabellum Era", especially in the face of tensions between the two blocs growing.

Kozelsk Tensions Re-ignited

New explosive reports are coming that the Ziridavan military is sending more units, some of them well trained and experienced by their own account to our borders. This is the latest provocation from their side but it has not gone unnoticed or unanswered. A statement from the Defense Department, has announced that two rapid response units have been deployed along the border and are on full alert. They have also stated that various combat units were pulled back from the border in order to decrease tension, but now they are preparing to move back into frontline positions. It is unclear exactly how many troops or what units those are.

An additional statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has revealed that a official and stern communique from the President's very office, was delivered to the Ziridavan Ambassador in Progena, Blagun Georgiev. In it, it listed a number of actions taken by the Ordian government and military to decrease tension and bloodshed, including President Jánošík's largely unanswered offers for de-escalation and peace. This was followed by citations from a number of Ordian, Ziridavan, and Foreign journalistic sources showing the Ziridavan increases in troop levels along the border. In the letter, the President declared from this point forward, his inaugural promise of increasingly hostile responses to any hostile acts by Ziridava would begin.

The President's statement ended with a following notice: that the Ambassador to Ziridava, Alexej Matúš and his staff, have been permanently recalled to Ludnow, whether it will remain that way is yet to be seen.

08/24/2021 - Ordia recalls ambassador as Ziridavan government defends increase deployments to Kozelsk

Officials in Ziridava have pointed the finger at Ordia for increase militarization in Kozelsk, as a response to Ordian movements
Image

Amidst increased military activity all along the Ordian border, tensions have continued to flare despite urges from other states to de-escalate. Just today, the Ordian defense department announced the deployment of more forces to the border to the border, including 2 quick reaction forces that have been placed on high alert. Forces that were previously pulled back were also re-deployed in response, however little is known about which units have been sent to the front. Although many still hope for a diplomatic solution to the crisis, other recent announcements have made many turn pessimistic.

In addition to an increased military presence on the border, Ordia also announced that their ambassador to Ziridava has been recalled to Ludnow. Ziridava's ambassador to Ordia was also delivered a communique from president Jánošík, in which he stated that his promise of retaliation to any Ziridavan actions in the region would begin. It is unclear what exact responses there would be to any perceived provocations, however president Jánošík promised that they would "become harsher and more violent as time goes on".

In response, the Ziridavan ministry of foreign affairs has made a statement on the crisis. In it, Ziridavan citizens were advised to reconsider any non-essential travel to Ordia, as well as to consider leaving if already in the country. Ziridavans were also advised to reconsider travel to Kozelsk province, and for residents within 70 kilometres of the border to be prepared to evacuate on short notice. What most people took note of however, was the announcement that the families of Ziridavan diplomats and non-essential personnel will be returned to Progena by the 26th. Essential staff such as the ambassador will be given the option to return, although they have also been notified to be prepared for orders to leave.

Meanwhile, the Ziridavan ministry of defense has assured that increased deployments in Kozelsk are defensive in nature. Defense minister Kliment Genov denied accusations of plotting an attack, instead suggesting that recent escalations could be an Ordian attempt at brinksmanship. However, the true motives of Ordia's new president when it comes to Kozelsk remain unknown. Although some suggest that he may be willing to invade, others have suggested that Jánošík is merely creating a show of force.

August 24th 2021

A school friend suggested I start on one of these so I can stop worrying about what's happening here, so here we go. My name's Rosica Valentinov, an aspiring history student living just outside Vas. I live with my younger sister, momma, and papa just outside the city in a two-story house, which also serves as our family's bakery. I have lived here since I was born, and my papa Tihomir bought our small house a couple years before I was born, in 1998. He used to be an officer in the Ziridavan army, but retired in 2018. He married my Ordian mom, Valéria, in 1995, the same year they began our family business. Then there's my sister, Snezhana. She was born in February 2002, just a day apart from my birthday.

Living as a Ziridavan-Ordian in Kozelsk hasn't been too easy. Most people are pretty tolerant, but we've come across some who haven't been so kind, especially in school. Often times when we discussed Kozelsk in our history classes, I would get some weird looks whenever I spoke, as if I wasn't supposed to be there. I still enjoyed the class, in fact I've always had a special interest in history and politics. It even extended to outside of school, with some people vandalizing our shop just for our ethnicity. Unsurprisingly, our schools tend to each our country's history from a Ziridavan perspective, so you can imagine that most Ziridavans also look at it from said perspective. Just like how Ordians view the history from an Ordian perspective.

It's only natural that both sides will have their own solutions to a conflict. You'll see lots of people on the internet having heated debates over the issue, but once you talk to people living in Kozelsk you'll realize we just want peace. Neither of our governments want that, however. I didn't vote for Evgeniy Sergei for this exact reason, neither did my dad and mom. Being Ziridavan-Ordian, it's heartbreaking to see our lives being put at risk over a petty conflict like this. Even worse is seeing both governments sending young men in the army to potentially die for it. Though at the end of the day, our voices won't be heard over their agendas and ultranationalism.

I guess my point is that I've been incredibly anxious about all this. Watching the news and seeing the military vehicles being moved in only makes my fears worse. At least now I have a way to put my thoughts into words. I just pray that this diary won't be found in a bombed out shell of our house in the future...

President Jánošík set to meet OCN

In a recent statement, President Jánošík has announced that recent efforts of dialogue and diplomacy have not produced any positive results, and that Ziridava which is led by President Evgeni Sergei, has not made any effort to negotiate, and has only escalated tensions in the face of Ordian efforts to defend themselves. Because of this, the President lamented that it seemed little other options existed, but vowed that before the situation possibly deteriorated further, he would hold a closing meeting with the OCN, which would have representatives from across the region and all nations.

"Before the possible hour comes that will decide our peoples fate, I will attempt to meet with the entire assembly and bring several issues to their attention. I possess a list of grievances that no matter what, even if war is declared, both us and the Ziridavans will hear the final word. If Evgeni Sergei chooses war it will be after both of us learn of the regions verdict, he will lead his forces knowing where Ziridava really stands in the hearts and minds of Atlas, and I do believe it will shock their people to know not all of Atlas supports them as they assume. Regardless we will bring it to vote, and they might attack us, but if they do we will fight to the end and drag Ziridava down knowing we are vindicated."

Meanwhile, there has been little change since the Ordian Ambassador to Ziridava was recalled. Our two countries still have thousands of troops and equipment deployed along the border, keeping each other in check. Multiple foreign governments have voiced their views with many simply calling for peace.
