Your nation's national animal

[Neo Infinitium]

I couldn't find a thread on national animals from what I could see, so here it is. Please describe what your national animal is, and a bit of history on why this is and what cultural significance this has on the population at large, if any.

Infinitium's national animal is the Axolotl. While not native to Bohemia or Slovakia, where the country is located, it was chosen by Supreme Leader Dynamo as it is his favourite animal, and he is rumoured to have a pet Axolotl in his office called Aqueous. Axolotls are frequently traded on the black market in Infinitium, and are one of the most expensive things you can buy on the market.

Also, much like any disagreement with the Glorious Leader, if you are found to not like them, you are shot.

The Corn Mutants are hideous masses of flesh that feed on the innocent in the dead of night. We give sacrifice in the former of flattery in the hopes they will spare the children.

[Mamquas]

Mamacos are a small species of monkey that have adapted to the urban environment like raccoons for example. But back in the day when they inhabited the mamqua forests, it is said that they were sacred because they could speak with the gods and help people in hunting and returning from the forest. It is for this reason that they are the national animal.The mamacos are grey.

The Silver Eagle is a large, silver grey eagle bird, with a size similar to a south american condor.

[Rogue River]

The military equipped laser shark. Is a scientificly engineered shark with legs and a laser on its head. Legend has it, only 200 are still roaming around. With 50 serving in the army.

[Destyntine]

The arctic fox is species of fox native to Scandinavia. They have a pure white pelt of fur and are normally seen in mountainous regions. The cultural significance behind them relates to the founder of the nation. Björn's longboat proudly sailed with the emblem of an arctic fox head printed on the mast. Although once endangered in the 20th century, their numbers have recovered to a safe level in the 23rd century.

Once endemic to a variety of Northern environments, over-hunting has driven Grey Wolves out of most of their range. Now, we seek to reintroduce wolves.

The national animal of the United Peoples of Dexterra is the crafty, cunning, glorious beagle.

Distinguished by eagle-shaped markings on their backs, our beagles (nicknamed eaglebacks) are a keystone of the people's national identity. They arrived here in the early 19th century as survivors of the shipwreck Dexter, an attempt by land surveyors to estimate the potential for colonial development that was thwarted by the Great Barbados Hurricane of 1831. Evolving over time into one of the world's largest populations of both wild and domesticated beagles, Dexter beagles have cemented themselves into United Peoples culture, symbolism and imagery [more info in official factbook entry here]

The Bottle nose Dolphin, We live out in the middle of the ocean. during the construction of the rigs we live on, the Dolphins used to play with our troops while they where patrolling the docs. one day, during the construction of the rig, Pirates attracted the dock's, shooting the dolphins. we where able to drive them back however. and so in the honor of the dolphins who died, we made our national animal the great dolphin.

[Utquiagvik]

The Utquiagvik Wild Pit Bull Terrier is a slightly stronger version of the average Pit Bull you will find in America. They are known for being seen a lot in the nations forests and being extremely intelligent, almost to the level of humans. Recently, one found a discarded guitar, plugged it up to an amplifier, and started blasting "Revelation (Mother Earth) by Ozzy Osbourne on Guitar in The City Of Yellowknife, amazing citizens.

It is the alligator we changed from the rattlesnake. Based on a Yankee parody song of our anthem. The line is "Oh way down south in the land of traitors, rattlesnakes, and alligators."

We have three national animals for the sea, the land and the air. Our national sea animal is the common dolphin, our national land animal is the lion and our national air animal is the common tern.

Our national animal is the Bulldog owing to its representative nature of our people; muscular and hefty, resolute, plucky and courageous.

The national animal or Duotona is the bee. It is this way because bees (for some bizarre unexplainable reason) pass over the Fiji archipelago, when they really shouldn't. This was considered a miracle by the ancestors who first tracked this, and so it has held a pretty significant status in Duotona ever since.

They are a nationally protected species, and all honey produced in Duotona (and that's a lot of it) has to be ethically made.

I chose the tiger, because it symbolizes strength and courage

[Safiloa]

The Lutuañi [loo-too-ang-ngee]
This little crustacean-eating coastal-dwelling burrowing bat with foldable fossorial wings is the master of the Safiloan beach biome. It can swim, dive, dig, crawl, hop, climb, and fly. They are most active at dusk and dawn and are a common sight along the white sandy beaches of Safiloa.

This is the national mammal of Safiloa.

[The Greater Russian Domain]

The Russian Empire maintains two major national animals and an additional 6 "Faunal Wonders of Russia":

The First National Animal, found on the Flag and Coat of Arms, is the Double Headed Eagle, the Mythical creature is symbolic across European Heraldry as the symbol of Empire, and has been used by the Byzantines, HRE, and several other claimants to the title "Emperor." Russia considers itself "The Third Rome" as the preserver and ultimate savior of Byzantine-Derived Civilization during the 400 years of Ottoman occupation of Constantinople.


The one which is an Extant Species, a land animal, membered among the rest of the 7 Faunal Wonders, and the most stereotypically associated with Russia, is The Brown Bear (Ursus arctos). The Russian Empire's Territory contains approximately 90 percent of the Brown Bear's range, including habitats ranging From Poland To Alaska, Armenia to Hokkaido, and basically anywhere in the empire where trees grow or mountains stand. These massive omnivores are known for their ferocity, raw strength, and maternal instinct.



The second of the 7 Faunal Wonders of Russia is the Saiga Antelope (Saiga tatarica). These Antelope are a hallmark of the Central Asian Steppe, and easily identifiable by their enlarged, flabby noses, remeniscent of those of tapirs, or more distantly, even of an elephant's trunk. They are Found from Astrakhan oblast in European Russia to Mongolia. They are sadly endangered, owing both to earlier human activity and to rather regular epidemics of a disease that proves quite deadly to them. Protection efforts are under way and their hunting is now completely illegal


The Third Faunal Wonder of Russia is the Amur Tiger. Located in the wilds of the Russian Far East, centered particularly in Eastern Manchuria and Transamur. These fearsome and colorful felids are a far-flung northern population cluster of the same (Panthera tigris tigris) subspecies found in South and Southeast Asian Jungles, now enjoying colder climes. They are also an endangered species and are generally protected.



The Fourth is the European Bison, otherwise known as the Wisent (Bison bonasus). This relative of the American Bison, distinguished by a more triangular head, is the heaviest extant wild land animal in Europe. It can be found in small clusters dotting the landscape from the German Border to Circassia. It is legally protected.



The Fifth Faunal Wonder of Russia, and the final mammal, is the Baikal Seal (Pusa sibirica). This seal, descended from ocean-going seals, managed in prehistoric times not only to make it to an inland freshwater environment, but specifically to make it thousands of kilometers from the nearest sea, to the largest freshwater lake by volume in the world. This feat baffles scientists to this day, and the magnificent creatures, with their thriving population, are a hallmark of the pristine baikal environment. Despite a healthy population, they are protected legally on account of their importance to the Baikal region.



The sixth Faunal Wonder, and the only fish, is the Beluga Sturgeon (Huso huso). Found in the Black and Caspian seas, this massive and long-lived bony fish is known both for its size and for the exorbitant value of its roe as caviar, which marks it as the most expensive culinary material in the world, exceeding even saffron in value. The demand for beluga caviar has posed a threat to the survival of the species. As a result, the fish in the wild is now heavily protected, while several large fish farms have been established with government subsidy to prevent continued demand from making poaching profitable.



The Seventh and final Faunal Wonder of Russia, a bird, is the Sakhalin Grouse (Falcipennis falcipennis). It is the only extant bird species endemic solely to Russia and is notable for its proud display of plumage. It lives on Sakhalin Island and in the wider Transamur Region.

The national animal of Hagaodou is the stoat, or Mustela erminea.

The traditional and ancient national animal of Hagaodou was the ermine, which is a stoat specifically in its winter coat. Originally, stoat furs were prized, and Hagaodic ermine was considered some of the best in Europe for a while. Queen Joan I of Anjev is known to have kept stoats in the Anjevin royal palace in Vannes, though the practice may have died out during the rule of the House of Albret, when Hagaodou was a co-Kingship with Navarre. During the rule of the Houses of Bourbon and its later cadet house Hagaodou, ermine fur cultivation increased.

During the Second World War and the occupation of Ledav by the Nazis, the ermine came to be more than just prized for its fur, and the royal family in exile at the royal palace of Exeter took once again to keeping them. The Nazis began to equate stoats with symbols of resistance, and began a culling campaign, offering monetary rewards for stoat corpses.

After the war ended, and the royal family returned to Vannes, a royal decree by Queen Mary Bridget forbade the hunting and cultivation of stoats and ended the use of their furs in royal garments, leading to a rise in faux ermine production in Hagaodou. Since then, stoats have been a fixture at the royal palace, and further domestication efforts focused on them as pets and symbols of the monarchy. Mary Bridget also changed the Coat of Arms of Hagaodou to remove the ermine mantle, and exchanged one of the supporters of the coat of arms with a stoat, notably in its brown coat rather than its white one.

[Tekatus]

Our human creators originally claimed the Horse as the National Animal of Tekatus, citing the animal’s symbolic association with freedom and defiance. After the Primordium, the original Primordial Minds would design and build a herd of Horse-like machines designated ‘Striders’. This was done as a symbolic step to the side away from our humanoid creators, the Strider now represents not only freedom and defiance but also our distinct Synthetic nature. It is our hope that such symbolism will be recognized by other organics that we are independent and fierce but not without compassion and friendship.
