Season 20,086
Part IV
If United wants this title, they were making it difficult on themselves, as they open the last quarter of the season with a surprising home loss to Gladerial, as an Elian Bra brace gives the Twilight the victory even though it looked like Voynov thought he had given the hosts a share of the spoils. The squad then traveled to Wexax and for the first time in the entire season, Wexax actually looks competent in the back, keeping United bogged down where only a Stene goal gave them a share of the points and their lead at the top cut down to a single point. However when Capri came to the Battleground, they were not prepared for avalanche that fell upon them as United put eight goals on the Typhoon and kept the normally offensive side off the scoresheet at the same time Soldarian was losing to Club ESF in Mar Sara four to nil, reestablishing the lead before the capital city derby. Jager grabbed an early goal off a corner but Dimitrov joined his countryman on the scoresheet before Watts curled in an effort with twenty minutes to go to give Soldarian the lead and eventually the win, bringing the difference back to a point. However United showed their class with three straight victories, including an emphatic five to one victory over Ibini in Raynor City, an efficient three to nil victory in Rinaldi, and were at home against Hondo with the chance to clinch the title after Soldarian had been held in Rinaldi. Home grown Marco Grunewald came off the bench in the second half and tucked in a cross from Voynov and sent the Rockers ahead and the victory that sealed the title before the last match.
While the title might be decided already, there are a few more storylines to follow in the last matchday, as that draw by Soldarian to Rinaldi also allowed Gladerial to keep pace with their Champions' League rivals. The Twilight had a few draws thrown into the mix, but they have gone unbeaten in the last seven and are just one point behind the Blades heading into the final matchday. Soldarian will stay in the capital as they head to Raynor City FC knowing that they will need a win to ensure that they stay second, as both them and Gladerial have clinched their spots in the Champions' League next season. Gladerial will also be in the capital, as they will be traveling to take on Rolalas, as the Blues have managed to string together five wins in their last seven to rise from thirteenth to six and just two points behind Hondo and a guaranteed spot in the Challengers' next season. With the Blues needing a win to keep their chances at a secure spot alive, Gladerial will find their foes more difficult to take on that Soldarian, with Raynor City FC already having been relegated on the penultimate matchday after Straightdale beat Capri.
Speaking of Straightdale they have four wins and three draws in the last seven and have risen from sixteenth to fourteenth, leapfrogging both Raynor City FC and Club ESF. The Knights have truly been a different team since the winter break and will be wondering where this form was in the first half of the season when it looked like they were completely overmatched compared to the rest of the league. Meanwhile Club ESF has seen a reversal of fortune compared to their first half form since the break, only getting a single victory and a pair of draws in the previous seven games. Club ESF will be hosting Capri, a Capri who has either been feast or famine for most of the season. Their poor league form has not gotten in the way of their Cup run, as Capri ironically beat Club ESF in Capri by two to one to advance into the Final of the Cup Perhaps it has been the distraction of the Cup that is why Capri sits in eleventh heading into the final matchday, though a victory could see them rise as high as ninth depending on other results. Straightdale will be hosting Ibini, though the Islanders still have an outside chance of moving into the top six with a victory, while Straightdale knows that a draw is likely enough to secure their survival.
Mar Sara currently sits in fourth, a single point ahead of Hondo, and three ahead of both Rolalas and Peravova who are chasing those Challengers' spots. The Flames have the most difficult game of them all, hosting United in Artani, knowing they need a victory to ensure their qualification for the IFCF next season, while a draw likely secures it but does make their position a bit less secure. Hondo is away to Peravova and the winner of the game likely secures a spot in the Challengers' for next season while the loser will be at due to the Final of the Silver Cup, while we already mentioned Rolalas will be hosting Gladerial. Four teams fighting for two secured spots because Capri is outside the top six with no route in, while United was upset by Juavi in the semifinals in extra time, as the Reds were able to sneak into the Battleground and catch United in the midst of their dip in form to be able to get away with the extra time victory. Juavi has already shown that they are quite capable of beating Premiership foes, while the Typhoon know that the Cup is their only way into the IFCF and might show their dominant rather than lackluster side in such a high pressure situation.
