The election had been originally scheduled for December 18th, but with a new election being triggering the election will take place on October 2nd. Prime Minister John Stophoe will seek re-election to a fifth administration, despite saying in late March that he would be retiring after the June election. He will run unopposed for the Independence Party leadership, despite his Finance Minister Harry Felixon leading the party in the last election. Stophoe vows that this will be his last term in office and that there will be elections come the new year. He says he's running to bring together the country and to lead the nation through a tumultuous new time. His former partners in government though, the Civil Rights Party is in a state of ruin, after a disastrous election campaign last time around led by Ken Alloway, leading the party the wrong path and supporting the wrong people, the Civil Rights Party went from a respectable second place finish in January to the distant third place finish this past June. With Ken Alloway out as leader, and former leader Lena Griskoi (who founded and led the Civil Rights Party to two second place finishes) ruling herself out, the Civil Rights Party will have to do a lot of soul searching and there will much disagreement among the different factions of the party for control. The Liberal Party might be facing a bit of a crisis too, Liberal Party Leader Maxime Castro is in favour of granting more civil rights, but the traditionalists in his party, who've led the Liberal Party to its only election victory, with disgraced Former Prime Minister Jerry Manion are threatening to leave the party and support Prime Minister John Stophoe and the Independence Party. After only staying with the Maxime Castro to oppose Harry Felixon and his Capitalist policies, the traditionalists could leave the party this time round and support the more moderate Stophoe. There are 300 seats in this election, down from 470 in the last, one seat for every 10 Million, and incumbents will be pitted against each other again. Prime Minister John Stophoe wants a majority, he thinks the path to that result easy, but will he get it? That remains to be seen.
