Jenna Raven Cup II/15th Women's World Cup Everything Thread

Postby Sarzonia » Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:26 pm

Welcome one, welcome all to the second edition of the Jenna Raven Cup, also trading as the 15th edition of the Women's World Cup!

The Incorporated Football Federation is pleased to see 20 countries who have decided to send their teams to this competition and help write a new story in the annals of the sporting multiverse. With 20 nations, we will have a double-round robin competition consisting of five groups of four teams each.

Pursuant to the sign-up thread, the group stage will consist of matches played once per day until a one-day break to end the first half of qualifying. Following that, there will be a day off between the end of qualifying and the start of the knockout rounds. If there is to be a playoff match or playoff matches, those matches will take up the day off between the end of qualifying and the start of the knockout rounds. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout rounds. The five group winners and the best runners up will receive an automatic bye into the quarterfinals. The remaining runners up will compete in a Playoff Round match. The winners of the playoff round will take on the other teams in the quarterfinals.

Here's information about how the tournament will operate. If you have any OOC questions or concerns, please direct them here. Thanks!

Tiebreakers between two teams:

To decide group seeding
1. H2H results
2. Head-to-head goal differential
3. Total goal differential
4. Total goals scored
5. ICly: Coin flip; OOCly: RP bonus
6. Playoff match

To decide knockout round standing for teams that did not face each other in the group stage
1. Total goal differential
2. Total goals scored
3. Fewest goals conceded
4. ICly: Coin flip; OOCly: RP bonus

For any three-or-more-way ties among group opponents, the following tiebreakers will apply:
1. Combined record against leveled opponents
2. Total goal differential in combined matches
3. Total goal scored in combined matches
4. ICly: Coin flip; OOCly: RP bonus

Should the tie be broken at any point in the above and eliminate one team from the tiebreakers, the tiebreakers will either revert back to the three-way tiebreakers in the case of it being more teams or will revert to the two-way tiebreakers listed above.

OOC Note: Matchday 1 will begin on 15 November. The day off between the two halves of qualifying will be on Thursday, 18 November. There will be no day off between the end of the group stage and the start of the playoff round. If there is a requirement for a play-in match, we will then push back the schedule by a day. The day off coincides with my getting a COVID booster shot that day, and I have no idea what the effect will be on me.

The group draw will take place within the next day or so by random drawing of lots (or use of random.org).

The participating nations are as follows:

Woodstock Profile
Sarzonia's capital city features the Gray House, where current President Grant Haffner lives, The Manor, where Lieutenant President and former First Gentleman Brian Patrick lives, Parliament Hall where the Sarzonian Parliament convenes, and the John Paul Stevens Building, where Sarzonia's Supreme Judicial Court presides. Unlike many countries with bicameral legislatures including a Senate, Sarzonia's House of Delegates is actually the upper chambre. Delegates are elected for no more than three two-year terms; Senators may serve no more than two six-year terms; the President may serve no more than two six-year terms.

The city also includes various museums and the Max Yasgur Centre for the Performing Arts, which is a go-to concert venue in Sarzonia and has been since the country became independent. It features a subway system that's fast and efficient and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Among the more popular areas of Woodstock are the Little Catherina district, which contains the largest concentration of Delaclav ex-pats within Sarzonia and some of the best baked goods Sarzonia has to offer. The Little Timiocato neighbourhood is also very popular with Pacitalian cuisine dominant in restaurants throughout the neighbourhood.

The sporting crown jewel of Sarzonia is the Dave Wilson Athletic Complex and Dave Wilson Stadium, the national stadium of Sarzonia, which seats 105,900. Sarzonia's home matches and any knockout round matches will take place at Nottingham Pavilion, a football-specific venue seating 18,200 on the outskirts of the Athletic Complex. The final will take place at Franz Braddock Stadium, which is a lacrosse stadium seating 35,000; but temporary seating will be added if ticket sales are sufficient. It can expand to up to 44,030 seats for the final.

Nicksia Profile
Sarzonia's largest city has long been the cultural capital of The Incorporated States and is the centre of the country's creative scene. The city takes its name from Fleetwood Mac singer and solo singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks. The city boasts a population of 14.6 million people with a large district named Rhiannon that boasts an array of coffee shops, cafes, and contains a historic section with replicas of cobblestone streets. A row of taverns and pubs lines one set of streets.

The historic district includes the site of the old Nicksia Stock Exchange, which closed down in the mid-2000s when the country's financial centre moved to Portland with the ascent of the Portland Iron Works among the world's leading military contractors. The building was used for a while as a location for satellite PIW offices until the Benatar Historical Society acquired the building with funding from Sarzonia's Division of Culture. It also includes the "southern Gray House" where late founding President Mike Sarzo once convalesced after being diagnosed with cancer.

Nicksia's sporting jewels are highlighted by Mike Sarzo Stadium, a retractable roof stadium with a natural grass pitch and a transparent retractable roof that allows sunlight in to provide nourishment for the grass. The stadium has a statue of founding Sarzonian President Mike Sarzo at the main entrance on Putnam Avenue. The stadium seats 77,910 and was recently renovated with solar panels and upgraded with the latest big screens, LED displays, and free Wifi access. The newly constructed Bank of Sarzonia Arena is in competition with the venerable Palestra in Woodstock for the status of home court for the Sarzonian national basketball team.

Visitors can attend the Naval History Museum near The Pier where people traveling between Sarzonia and Delaclava can also rent motor and sailboats for day trips between the two countries. Visitors can see the USS Constitution, the oldest commissioned warship still afloat and the only commissioned warship in the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy without the ISS prefix. The ISS Rampage, a light aircraft carrier from Sarzonia's earliest days is also among the ships on display. It is surrounded by the Old Port neighbourhood with a collection of rustic-looking taverns that also includes souvenir shops.

Aficionados of live music can get their fix at the Mabel Normand Centre for the Performing Arts five nights a week. Thursday nights are open mic nights where the house band allows any aspiring musicians to try out singing live. The Crystal Visions Palace offers free music lessons to anyone regardless of age or ability. Actors can play their trade in a supportive environment at the Sea of Love Thespian Centre.

The newly built Muskegon Stadium, a 15,930-seat venue will be the site for any matches played in Nicksia.

Portland Profile
The home of the venerable Portland Iron Works, a defence contractor that originally sold naval ships, but became large enough to acquire the Wilmington Shipyard Corporation, which sold hospital ships and other logistics supplies, among other contractors. The city became the financial capital with the continued ascent of the PIW, and moved to the Portland Stock Exchange building, which is the centrepiece of the city's Finance District. Guided tours for countries friendly to Sarzonia are available for a fee. The Portland Iron Works building has a statue of its first CEO, Admiral Barbara Tucker in front of it. The street for the PIW campus is named Admiral Tucker Boulevard.

The city also has an Old Port area, featuring a large collection of boating for people who want to take boats out for fishing or for just being on the open water. Some of the country's prime seafood restaurants call the Old Port home. A highly advanced light rail shuttles people between Portland itself and the growing neighbouring city Corcorran, which was named after the Delaclav city that is the largest city near Sarzonia.

The city just finished construction on a brand new Iron Bowl to replace the venerable structure that once hosted Sarzonian football home matches. The building seats 70,165 for football.

Charter Field will be the venue for any matches taking place in Portland. It seats 17,120.

Wilmington Profile
The city that was once at the forefront of shipbuilding industry in Sarzonia on the strength of the Pasteur-class hospital ships that were its backbone, Wilmington has evolved into an eclectic city representing a wide variety of Sarzonian life. It's best known for its shipping and beachfront areas, along with hospitality that's second to few places within Sarzonia. Wilmington also is a major presence in Sarzonia's sporting history with it being among the "big four" of Sarzonian sports cities. Wilmington will host knockout round fixtures at Shipyard Stadium, which seats 62,758, but capacity for the Jenna Raven Cup will be 16,922.

Cultural Notes

Sarzonians are polite, but can be a little reserved and sometimes aloof when they meet strangers. However, once they get to know people, they can open up and let their guard down.

The currency in Sarzonia is the Sarzonian dollar. There is no $1 bill. The one dollar coin has a picture of founding President Mike Sarzo on the obverse. It is subdivided into 100 cents. Each stadium has a bank that allows for currency exchanges from your currency to the Sarzonian dollar. The three most common currencies exchanged for Sarzonian dollars are the Isselmerian-Nielander lethse, the Pacitalian douro and fouta, and the Delaclav karsika and cent.

Sarzonia Stars

Permissions:
Anything but killing or tournament-ending injuries is fine.

Manager: Brenda Allison, 49
Allison is the niece of a financier who wants to resurrect Sarzonia's women's football league. She grew up watching the Women's World Cup, but came of age when Sarzonia entered its most recent period of isolation. She was a defender on the Woodstock Justice before the Sarzonian Football League ceased operations.

Assistant: Dean Gold, 52
Gold was an coaching intern with the Portland Power before the SFL folded into the Sarzonian Football Confederation as a combined Sarzonian Football League. He agreed to be the manager of a new Portland Power in a new league.

Home grounds:
Nottingham Pavilion, Praeton Heights (Woodstock suburb), capacity 18,200. This will be the home grounds for Sarzonia's matches, and all matches in Woodstock will be played here, including the knockout rounds except for the final, which will be at Franz Braddock Stadium in Woodstock (capacity 40,550 for football).

ROSTER (starters in BOLD)

GOALKEEPERS
18 Marce' George, 22, 5-foot-8, 145 pounds
George (her first name is pronounced Mar-SAY) shows great athleticism but is unpolished in the back. She may see playing time regardless.

30 Carly Parsons, 30, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds
Brought in as a veteran backup for George after Knight-Langham got suspended.

DEFENDERS
2 Blayre West, 23, 5-foot-6, 130 pounds
West brings speed to her position at left back and she is expected to tightly mark her assigned player.
3 Clara Hawley, 29, 5-foot-10, 160 pounds
A natural lefty, Hawley has played sweeper in a 3-5-2, but is more comfortable with the 4-4-2.
4 Joyce Tyler, 24, 5-foot-8, 140 pounds
She expects to learn from Hawley as they will room together on the road. She is playing central defence for the first time.
19 Tara Stanley, 22, 5-foot-9, 145 pounds
Stanley is another outside back with great speed, but with less polish than West has.
22 Virginia Ashfield, 23, 5-foot-4, 125 pounds
28 Geraldine Tambor, 25, 5-foot-7, 140 pounds

MIDFIELDERS
8 Callie Edwards, 24, 5-foot-3, 145 pounds
Edwards is a rugged defensive midfielder who frequently marks the opposing team's playmaking midfielder and generally operates as a pest.
9 Lois Robinson, 22, 5-foot-10, 155 pounds
She takes the lefty free kicks and corners. She can control the ball on the left side, but isn't the surest passer, so she doesn't serve as playmaker.
10 Joelle Burns, 26, 5-foot-6, 140 pounds
Her vision and passing ability made her the natural fit for playmaking midfielder. She takes the righty free kicks and corners. Her defence is a bit suspect.
14 Winnie Taunton, 28, 5-foot-9, 150 pounds
Taunton takes a majority of the penalties and produces blinding speed on the wings.
20 Sierra Dawkins, 30, 5-foot-9, 155 pounds
23 Mariama Vance, 25, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds

FORWARDS
11 Carly Wilcox, 22, 5-foot-11, 175 pounds (Woodstock Wild reserves)
Wilcox retained her place on the Wild's reserve squad and made eight appearances and six starts after her transition. She was invited to train with the men's national team, but declined after she suffered an injury.
12 Jolene Walter-Campos, 31, 5-foot-1, 130 pounds
The creative forward on the team, she modeled her game after her younger stepbrother Jake Campos on the current men's national team.
16 Ellen Magruder, 25, 5-foot-8, 150 pounds
17 Pietra Stanicek, 27, 5-foot-9, 160 pounds
First WCC Grand Slam Champion
NSWC Hall of Fame Inductee (post-World Cup 25)
Former WLC President. He/him/his.

Stadium and Fans
Image
Stade Pierre Brunel (24800), Lutetia

In the heart of the capital of Galliena, Stade Pierre Brunel is the Stadium of Olympique Lutetia FC, a team of Gallienese first division in both male and female football. Olympique is currently the strongest team in Lutetia, despite having a fanbase far smaller than its archrivals, ASL Lutetia. Despite not having too much of a tradition on international football, Gallienese fans are quite loud. Expect for lots of flags, some pyro and a very loud audience. Gallienese women are a common sight in stadiums, even more when it comes to Women's Football. They are usually loud, and their vocabulary is no kinder than that of men. Regardless of gender, expect some unpronounceable words from the fans, including offensive adjectives, suggestions that the participants of the match abandon football and choose certain professions, references to the insertion of objects in certain parts of the body and insults to the family, not only of the opponents, but also of the referees or even the players of the team itself.

ATHEARAN NATIONAL WOMENS TEAM FOR JRC II

Atheara returns to the 2nd inaugural edition of the Jenna Raven Cup, also known as the 15th Women's World Cup as reigning champions after defeating Saterun 5 - 3 on penalties in the previous edition finals. The Frozen Regiment returns to face off in a very tight group consisting of Sarzonia, Eshialand, HUElavia, and of course, Atheara itself. The mens team has history in some shape or form against every team in the group, whilst this may be the first time the womens team may face these other teams. Two El Recenticos with the Eshian team are bound to happen, as the format of a double round robin ensures that. Will Atheara be able to re-tain their crown? Or will a new champion emerge victorious?

About Muralos
Muralos is a cosmopolitan collection of islands located in the corner of the Far East: RL’s Sakhalin and Kuril Islands. It is home to a population of Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and indigenous (Ainu, Nivkh, and Orok) origins. The official language of Muralos is Esperanto- a language designed to be universal and easy to learn- but the population is exceptionally multilingual, with each citizen knowing an average of 4 languages.

The Muralosian National Soccer Team at the Jenna Raven Cup
(also known as the Hawks, after Muralos’ national animal, the Muralosian Hawk)

The Muralosian national soccer team represents Muralos in association football (or soccer, as Muralosians call it). It is controlled by the Muralosian Soccer Association, the governing body for soccer in Muralos. Muralos' home ground is the Komcatt Arena in the capital city of Urbego, and its current coach is Jozefo Koltakov, former striker for CSKA Urbego and later Muralosian national team captain. Hina Kageyama and Pavel Li serve as assistant coaches. Coaches Koltakov, Kageyama, and Li have consistently played the team in a 4-4-2 formation.

At the Jenna Raven Cup, the Muralosian national soccer team will consist of female and non-binary players. While some players on this team have had plenty of recent international experience (for a Muralosian, anyway), others have not played in international competition for a few years.

Kits
Unusually, the Muralosian national soccer team elects to use one kit with the national colors of Muralos.

Roster of the Muralosian National Soccer Team at the Jenna Raven Cup
  • #1 Tanya Lubimova - Goalkeeper
Lubimova (the "Turquoise Spider") was the starting goalkeeper for the former Muralosian woman's national soccer team, and she is frequently the goalkeeper for the all-gender Muralosian national team. She brings exceptional athleticism to her goalkeeping, never being afraid to jump or lunge to make a save. At Urbego National University, Lubimova was on the University League soccer team, and she qualified twice for the University League Athletics Championships as a high jumper.
  • #2 Aminda Mori - Right back
Mori graduated from the University of Havenurbo, where she studied digital art and played for their University League team. She reached the final of the 2020 University League championships, along with her fraternal twin sister Rebeka.
  • #4 Andrea Lin - Center back
Often seen twirling a drumstick, Lin is a skilled percussionist as well as a starting defender for the Havenurbo School of Visual and Performing Arts girl's soccer team. Lin has been integral to the Muralosian U-18 national team as well; in 2021, they helped the Young Hawks reach the knockout stages of the U-18 World Cup in Xanneria and Starcom. (Note that while Lin plays for the girl's soccer team at HSVPA, they do not use she/her pronouns.)
  • #5 Ji-yong Park - Center back
Park is actually a starting goalkeeper for FC Havenurbo, a top-tier team in the men's Muralosian Premier League, usually second to CSKA Urbego. Although they play in the men's Muralosian Premier League, Park is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
  • #3 Rebeka Mori - Left back
Aminda Mori's fraternal twin sister. She recently graduated from the University of Oleo, where she worked at the university's Permafrost Research Center. She also has a University League championship to her name, complete with bragging rights over Aminda. Today, both Rebeka and Aminda Mori play for the all-gender Muralosian national team.
  • #6 Daniela Safonova - Left midfield
The 15-year-old Safonova is a phenom on the Nord-Urbo High School and the U-18 national teams. Safonova often invites comparisons to Galina Shchedrina, fellow midfielder on the senior Muralosian national team. Both are extremely composed on the pitch, but while Shchedrina often goes for goal, Safonova displays her range in the form of crosses. Safonova is often in attendance at senior national team games, including some of their games abroad. After these games, she is often interviewed on Muralosian television for brief commentary. As a result, RTM-1 - Muralos’s national sports television network - named her an honorary correspondent in 2020.
  • #7 Aimi - Center midfield
Aimi currently attends Nord-Urbo High School and plays for the Muralosian U-18 and U-21 teams. She is of Ainu ancestry, though her name is Japanese in origin.
  • #8 Gaja Lee - Center midfield
A midfielder for the women's CSKA Urbego team, Lee is known for her vision of the field and her carefully thought-out style of play. She often takes longer than her teammates anticipate before making passes. The result is a win all around: Lee locks in possession of the ball, and her teammates get time to move into the best scoring positions.
  • #11 Galina Shchedrina - Right midfield
A recent graduate of Urbego National University, Shchedrina made a splash with her national team debut in the 74th Baptism of Fire, where she scored a free kick in a 3-1 victory over Ranoria. She is known to play well in high-pressure situations, making accurate passes even when surrounded by opposing midfielders and defenders. Currently playing for the Veriasod Wolves of the Tikariot Premier League, Shchedrina is the only player on the Muralosian national team who plays overseas.
  • #9 Anka - Striker
Along with Valora Lin, Anka played on the Nord-Urbo Women's College team that won a University League championship, as well as the former Muralosian women's national team. Currently, she is the assistant coach of the women's soccer team at Urbego National University. Anka is of Nivkh ancestry and, following Nivkh custom, does not have a surname.
  • #10 Valora Lin - Striker
Lin's presence on the all-gender Muralosian team has been a boon for Muralos' efforts in international competition. Since the 74th Baptism of Fire, she has scored 11 goals in 32 appearances, including key victories in the 12th Independent Associations Championship and the 88th World Cup qualifiers.

Stadia
Komcatt Arena, Urbego
Komcatt Arena (38,838 seats), named for one of Muralos' largest telecommunications companies, is the home ground of the Muralosian national team in the capital Urbego. Matches here are sure to generate hype for players and fans alike.

The Eshian National Women's Soccer Team
Jenna Raven Cup II Roster
Brought to you by the Eshialand Soccer Federation
Image

Welcome to 2023. The year 2022 was a bit chaotic for Eshian soccer, with the Jenna Raven Cup ending on a dissapointing thrashing from a team they had already beaten twice, the Independent Associations Championship ending before it even technically started, the World Cup of Masters falling flat right at the finish line, the Eagle's Cup being 0-2-4, World Cup Qualifying being amazing (except for being stuck behind a team who never failed to qualify and the first unrankeds in 6 cycles to make it to the big dance), and the Cup of Harmony being an 0-1-3, "please re-evaluate your life choices", sh*tfest. Now, it's time for Eshialand to shake off its demons from the previous year, and that begins in the Jenna Raven Cup.

Nickname: the Owls
Style mod: +2
Formation: 4-2-3-1

Stadiums:

The Southern Sportsplex (cap. 45,000)
Cincinnati, Ohio

The home of the ESL's Cincinnati Siege, the Southern Sportsplex is another modern stadium (again, built in 2021), however this time it's outdoors, so you'll have to play/watch the match in temperatures somewhere between the freezing mark and 5o Celsius (41o Fahrenheit). Luckily, there is heating on the seats for fan comfort, but still, I'd bring a coat. Free Wi-Fi is available here, as it is in Eshialand City.

Host stadium for: MD1 vs. HUElavia, MD6 vs. Sarzonia.

The Eshialand City SuperDome (cap. 75,000)
Eshialand City, Ontario

The home of the Eshialand Soccer League's Eshialand City Royals, the SuperDome is a modern stadium (built in 2021) outfitted with a retractable roof and a modern heating system, perfect for a cold Eshian winter, where the temperature could drop as low as -10o Celsius (14o Fahrenheit). There's also free Wi-Fi available and some of the best snacks out there, so there's no real reason for fans not to enjoy their match-going experience!

Host stadium for: MD5 vs. Atheara.

Coach: Kenneth MORGAN (M, 45)
Coach Morgan has always been that one coach that every team wants to have, not because he's good at winning (Eshialand's collapse in the last Cup of Harmony and the Eshialand City Royals' meh record on the domestic front seem to indicate quite the opposite), but because he's impossible not to like as a coach and as a person.

Roster (starters in bold):
Cap and goal statistics come from the co-ed national team, and are updated to the end of the 81st Cup of Harmony.

Goalkeepers:
    GK #1 Tyra ZARELKO, 25
    GK #13 Elizabeth MICHAELS, 23
    1 cap
    GK #14 Gina TELLARI, 30

Defenders:
    RCB #3 Lisa DEVERS, 29
    RCB #5 Matilda LUHAN, 28
    LB #6 Clara DONALDSON, 26
    RB #8 Sarah SILVER, 31
    74 caps
    RB #10 Gabriela SMITH, 22
    LCB #20 Dominique LaPLANTE, 27
    74 caps, 2 goals
    LB #21 Bella ANDREWS, 28
    LCB #31 Carrie WESTON, 26

Midfielders:
    LM #4 Harriet COPELAND, 27
    4 caps, 1 goal
    Spotlight on: Harriet Copeland
Harriet was always known to be an aggressive player, and she shows exactly that whenever she comes on the pitch. 3 of her 4 caps came from the 75th Baptism of Fire, where she proved herself both a ball-hog and a war-monger, the opposite of the team player. Her fourth cap came from a friendly against Græntfjall, when she got into an on-pitch incident with Kalle Bjørnsson, leading to a 3-match suspension (the only suspension in Eshian history) and being removed from the roster for the 80th Cup of Harmony. Despite this, however, she remains a staple on the Jenna Raven Cup team, who definitely plays like she still belongs on the NT.

RM #12 Melissa CAREY, 29 (CAPTAIN)
    74 caps, 21 goals
    Spotlight on: Melissa Carey
Melissa has, from the very beginning, been the most important link in the Eshian National Team. Not only is she the best two-way midfielder on the team, but, in her role as the team's captain for every match they've ever played (except for the last third of a match against Felinetopia in the Independent Associations Championship), nobody on the team could outdo her.

    LM #29 Jessica FISK, 25
    RM #41 Anna WARREN, 30

Forwards:
    RW #7 Faith KRUPP, 24
    2 caps, 1 goal
    LW #9 Alyssa LONGFIELD, 28
    74 caps, 17 goals
    RW #15 Tamara BAKER, 28
    LW #17 Erica LEWIS, 23
    AM #18 Rana JOSEPH, 27
    AM #19 Avery MacDOUGALL, 28
    73 caps, 10 goals

Strikers:
    ST #24 Alice CARROLL, 24
    63 caps, 32 goals
    Spotlight on: Alice Carroll
The current highest overall goal scorer on Eshialand's national team, Carroll was a surprising star who nobody ever expected. She first played on the national team as a temporary replacement for Jacob Harran in Eshialand's Baptism of Fire semifinal match against Atheara, and since then has proven to be perhaps the greatest star the Owls have had to offer. Expect her to rack up a large goal total in this year's JRC.

    ST #33 Marcy BENNETT, 25

The whistle blew long and loud to stop the players at the training facility.

"No! No! No!" Sarzonian national women's football team manager Brenda Allison yelled out at her charges. "You need to communicate out there! Don't expect your mates to read your mind!"

She jogged out to the centre as her players watched her. She gave Blayre West a look and extended her left arm to West.

"West," she said, "If you're looking to pass your mark onto Hawley, you need to let her know that."

"I tried to," West said.

"I didn't see anything," Hawley replied.

"You need to talk!" Allison said. "Maybe if you play together more, you'll be able to use non-verbal cues, but for right now, you need to tell her when you're passing her off or if you need help with your mark." Allison was spending extra time on working on the marks after reviewing match video from the previous Jenna Raven Cup. The host nation Stars were getting set to kick off the tournament against defending champions Atheara at Nottingham Pavilion. The venue would not be expanded to include additional seating for fans because of the increased security the match between Sarzonia and the Anaian nation Atheara would require.

Even as the verbal cold war between Atlantian Oceania and the breakaway Anaian region faded from the daily headlines, the relationship between Sarzonia and the overwhelming majority of Anaian nations was still frosty. Except for Quebec and Shingoryeo, whose embassy was never officially closed or even had formally restricted access, most nations who previously had embassies in Sarzonia were required to remove their diplomatic and consular staffs. There was talk of potentially reopening the Krytenian embassy compound, but certain floors within that once celebrated close ties between Emberton and Woodstock would see police tape barring access to them, both physically and symbolically demonstrating the strain in ties between the former allies.

Sarzonia and Atheara had little diplomacy between them, but the Athearans had an interest section that advocated for them and that formally submitted the paperwork to allow their women's footballers to compete in the Jenna Raven Cup. The application was, of course, accepted by the appropriate channels, namely the Health and Athletics Department and External Affairs, and there was little attendant drama to that. But the fact that Athearans wouldn't receive the kind of welcome that, say, Banija might was certainly on display.

All of that was far from Allison's mind as she tried to tighten up the team's defence against the champions from last time. She certainly felt the pressure, not of geopolitical considerations, but of trying to ensure that Sarzonia were able to advance in their own bloody tournament. They took the initiative of bringing women's football back into international importance, and seeing the knockout rounds proceed without them was a punch in the gut for organisers. Allison felt the pressure to ensure that didn't happen again.

She knew one thing. Feeling pressure to perform could elicit one of two reactions. One, she and her team could respond with additional motivation and not only advance past the group stage, but also could do some damage once all the matches took place in Sarzonia, or two, the team could shrink from the pressure and once again fail to qualify for the knockout rounds. Allison knew if the latter happened, her victory in the Wonder Cup would no longer carry the same weight it did last time out. She had to at least get the Stars into the knockout rounds, if not onto the podium. That was the mission. She had to do that any way she could, and if it meant focusing more on ensuring her defence didn't miss its assignments, that was what she was going to do.

Compounding the pressure was the sense that Group A, seeing the Stars, defending champions Atheara, HUElavia and Eshialand in the same group, was clearly the group of death in this second Jenna Raven Cup. The team couldn't afford a single slip-up. They'd have to be tight on their marks and they'd have to be opportunistic with counters and would have to do well with possession offence.

"There isn't a single easy match," Allison said in her media availability time after the practice session. "There won't be any opportunity for us to play depth players if we want to advance to the knockouts."

It's a newer kind of investment in Qad Football, but one that is sure to help shape it for as long as the candle of existence burns.

Following some minor success at the Mike Sarzo Memorial Trophy, the Qasden Association Football Association (QAFA) took it to themselves to impose the idea of reinvestment towards a stronger future in athletics. Teams across the organization had been packed with wide-eyed prodigies from around the country with the collective goal to accrue more stars and titles for the crest, more gold for the dragon's den. The X-Squad was one of the first to explore this return to developmental play, comprising of top athletes within the organization's National Academy, a massive epicenter for all things QAFA, just outside of T.V. City. Then came the Classics, a blast from the past featuring the legends of Qasden's Merritt days, who became a poster team for the title push during the World Cup of Masters. While neither have yet to score a star, they've both assuredly made their voices heard in the local football sphere, with the X-Vans pulling off a stunning victory over a homecrowd Sarzonia in the MSMT. The successes are there, and the gap to victory feels as if it's narrowing every tournament. Today, however, is the day it closes.

While the early days of QAFA could be seen as a sausage party, it wasn't until the arrival of female athletes that the team began to truly shine. Namely, the great Valentijn Munson, a midfielder who shot up the ranks of the NatAcademy to become the first woman ever on the national team, became one of the charming faces of the OldVans' Golden Era, leading the charge towards the team's 5 appearances in the World Cup proper. During the managerial reign of Sylvia Zimari (the first female manager of the NT), a great roster refresh saw more women than ever join the main stage, with stars being made of girls like Zinnia Thurstan, Cora Varnham, and Michelle McCracken. Some of these women continue to do great things at the NT, even after Zimari's departure; but it shouldn't be overlooked at what the future has in store.

In the recent Olympics, a women's team, comprised of academy hopefuls and national team backups, took on one of the most competitive events in the games. The squad, headed by academy official, Alison Mardel, walked away with nothing but a tie to Amuaplye in the group stage, but nevertheless, it incentivized national investors to keep their eyes on the Y-less stars of tomorrow. To continue the hype around them, the association had formally established a national all-women team to compete in the upcoming Jenna Raven Cup, the current incarnation of an old-running Women's World Cup. This squad would be filled with young hopefuls looking to earn their spot on the national team come the next set of qualifiers, each bringing a little taste of experience and skill with them. Like the posterchildren of the other teams within the organization, the WoVans garnered their own media attention with the inclusion of two instantly recognizable faces. The first was Zinnia Thurstan, the former starting goalkeeper for the very NT that reached the championship of AOCAF 62, now back to captain the women's team; the second, the legendary Valentijn Munson herself. Since retiring, Munson became co-chair of the NatAcademy's midfielder program, sharing that position with fellow household name, Ryan Xandreas. With Ryan's latest dives into the manager market, it seemed all but inevitable for Valentijn to join in as well, becoming the third former player in QAFA history to become one. Given her vast experience, careful co-ordination, and downright mass popularity at home, Munson's first challenge at Jenna Raven will no doubt become one of the largest watch party events in the lead up to AOCAF 65, another competition to feature a new cast of managers to replace an ill-fated Zimari. With Alison Mardel by her side, can Munson and the WoVans bring back the victory Qasden has yearned so long for? Will QAFA continue to make its push for golds as expensive marketing-wise as it's been? There's so much to discover, and there's no better time than now, right here, at the second Jenna Raven Cup in Sarzonia!

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - WOMEN'S

This is the second time that Abanhfleft will participate in either the Jenna Raven Cup or the Women's World Cup. The women's team has participated in a fair few number of World Cups, representing Abanhfleft in all of them, but this is the first time that they will be taking part in a tournament that is explicitly marked as the Women's World Cup. With the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft still somewhat undecided on whether to take part in the next edition of the Di Bradini Under-21 World Cup, the SFA has taken the opportunity to blood players from both within the under-23 bracket and the fringes of the senior national team in this particular tournament to hopefully get a feel on how the young women of today will perform against the other football-playing women of the multiverse.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: White (home), red and blue (away)
Style modifier: +2.5
Formation: 4-2-3-1 (This will be standard unless I change it through RPs)
Head coach: Kate Bernanos (51 y/o, Abanhfleft)

STARTERS
GK: Mihaela HRISTOVA 23 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Women Image
Mihaela has finally become a starting goalkeeper for the Abanhfleft national team. However, it's not because she has finally proven herself worthy of the position so much as because the SFA don't want to risk their actual starters for what basically amounts to a tune-up tournament. And it still depends on whether Mihaela can work together with this team or not.

RB: Queen YARNALL 26 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Women Image
A quiet and sturdy defender who for her age is already making waves not only in the youth leagues but also in her handful of appearances for the Admiral Porcusces Women senior team. Still needs some work obviously but she could have a very high ceiling indeed.

RCB: Rose BANE 21 y/o, Uthilmir United Image
Rose is perhaps the only member of the defense in that under-18 team in the 13th Under-18 World Cup who managed to escape that collapse with her reputation still fairly intact. Her reward for this is gaining a starting spot in the women's national team for the Jenna Raven/Women's World Cup. Rose generally has a good defensive head on her but is still often overcome by the rashness of youth.

LCB: Tiera WALRATH 28 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
One quarter of the Ogovlich backline that won them the Youth Premier League title this season. Like Wilton Kaba beside her in the under-18 team, Tiera's main purpose is to win balls inside the box and then kick it right out of the danger area. Accuracy needs a bit of work though.

LB: Tien GOODLETT 27 y/o, Ogovlich Medusas Image
The second quarter of the Ogovlich backline that won the Youth Premier League. Tien is more of an attacking fullback who likes to maraud further up the pitch and assist in the attack. She still gets back in defense more times than not but a particularly quick counterattack could still leave her stranded where she can be of no help to her fellow defenders.

RM: SIBUSIZWE Kiggwancha 27 y/o, Athletic Motonou Image
SIbusizwe's greatest strength lies in the fact that she can win the ball in midfield more times than not. Of course, most of this is against girls and boys on or nearly the same age as she is, but when she turned out for Athletic Motonou's senior side in the last few matchdays of the Ladies' Third Division season (with the title already wrapped up for Motonou) Sibusizwe looked capable of doing much the same thing against players who were much older and much more experienced than her. Now, she may be older but she's still no closer to being able to show this side of her game regularly because of manager philosophies and better players becoming available for call-up to the national team.

LM: Tatiana TOS 24 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image
Every team worth its salt needs an enforcer in the midfield, and if recent seasons are anything to go by, Tatiana Tos could very well be that enforcer. Tatiana was born in the Fhulghamous Peninsula but chose to represent Abanhfleft instead because the Fhulghamous' women's football program is simply woeful, to say the least. This will surely make her want to prove that she truly deserves the call-up to the senior Fleftic team.

RW: Sohaila MAGOMEDOVA 31 y/o, Exiles FK Image (Pridnestrovia)
Sohaila is one of Heinrich Wurzmann's latest finds from the Alternative Football Program. Her idols growing up were tricky players like Finn Jameson, Ruud Akinfenyor, and Matthew Cave, and Sohaila certainly has the feet to emulate them. She has indeed turned into one of the best right wingers Abanhfleft has to offer, but her decision to move to lower league Pridnestrovian side Exiles FK has cost her many a call-up with the national team. Until now, that is.

CAM: Josefine VITAGLIANO 20 y/o, Wanda Island Wanderers Women Image
Another bright spot in that disastrous DBC 48 campaign. Josefine would prefer to be able to become a second striker or a false 9 drifting in and out of pockets of space, and while she is still unable to do that at the moment due to tactics, at least being a central attacking midfielder puts her in a somewhat similar position. Josefine will just have to come from deeper from the field than she would like.

LW: Claudia ROOS 30 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Women Image
Claudia finally made the move from left back to left winger, a move that worked out well in the end for her, what with her pace, crossing ability, and incisive runs into the box. However, injuries have plagued her career and forced her out of contention for a call-up for much of what should have been the best years of her career, but now it looks like she's about to turn the whole thing around and become a late bloomer along the lines of a certain Tristan Lee.

ST: Hiroko KELLERMAN 23 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Women Image
Kellerman won the Golden Boot in the Fleftic Premier Development League 1 with a 23-goal haul in the 2028-29 season, earning her a promotion up to the senior women's team where she continued her goalscoring form with 21 goals for 2029-30, making her the highest goalscorer of the Citizens that season. She earned a call-up to the under-21 team for the 48th Di Bradini Cup, where she was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disastrous campaign which once again convinced the SFA to boycott the Di Bradini Cup for real and permanently this time.

Their physical game is less strong but technically they make up for it with their skilled and quick playstyle.

Star players

Klara Jenssen
Klara Jenssen playing for Blizzard Academy is a very strong defender and compared to her teammates her physical game is actually her strong point and her leadership in the defense helps the team position.
Also does Klara bring a good amount of experience while still being physically in top condition she is one of the best defenders this team has and even a candidate for the mixed national team next world cup.

Christiana Love
Our own Starsian Goddess, Christiana Love also known as Aphrodite is the center and peaceful point of the team always keeping a great sight and her coordination allows her to set-up great offensive combinations.
Lately though she has been less impressing in her matches but that does not take away the incredible talent she does have and there is no doubt that her destination is beyond our own borders.

Nadya Cross
Maybe not the best player but a true leader in heart and soul, Nadya can always motivate the team and uses her own skill to bring out the best of her team and elevate them to a whole new level as a single entity.
Her experience make her a valuable leader and point of communication for the coach with the team which allows them to easily take up instructions and change their playstyle swiftly when she is out on the field.

Kira Blade
The woman that everyone is looking out for, the next generation's leading light and the daughter of national hero and Phoenix academy coach Marcus Blade is the new captain of this team.
While very young her skill is unmatched, Kira is able to read the flow of the game, adapt to her opponents and keep evolving herself even within a match she will always keep getting better which each time she plays.
Inherting her father insane scoring ability and spead she is more of a technical player and gets easily fouled on because she is known as the best player of the team and quickest, however with her on the team the team's ability and teamwork is alot better then it ever was.

The Stadium, Castle Hills Stadium

Our home ground will be the Castle Hills stadium which has place for as much as 85,000 soccer fans from all over the multiverse and between the central forest and the city of Greenville in The 14 Stars.
All women's team matches when possible are played here because of the history they made here and the fact that the very foundation of this team was made in this stadium many many years ago.

Postby Atheara » Thu Nov 11, 2021 3:14 am

"Alright everyone. That was satisfactory enough for me." Defensive coach Dyvia Lanell - Myrta said to the team as they finished their defensive training. Defense has always been a key point in Athearan football. No loss margin by more than 2 goals is an unwritten rule for Atheara in international football. Diana Kurettengard took this unwritten rule quite seriously. She has always been the one to take everything seriously, and this training is no less for her. Practicing her pressing and awareness, along with her coordination with Alexandra Neier - Heitsdel. Defending champions Atheara was going to kick off the Jenna Raven Cup groups tage facing off against fourth place finishers Sarzonia from the last JRC.

"Could i practice for a bit longer, coach?" Diana asked to the coach. "Alright, you can do whatever. Usual training is done anyways." Coach Myrta fired back to Diana. She and the rest of the starting back line had left. Diana had proceeded to continue her tackling, aerial battles, and dribbling with the help of the training ground system. This second Jenna Raven was going to be a bit of a special one, since: A. Atheara were coming in as defending champions; B. Atheara was placed in quite a tricky group; and C. Eshialand was also in the group. Last JRC, many fans wanted Atheara and Eshialand to face off against one another, and this year was their golden moment, to see who will be able to be better between the two nations.

"That's it for today girls. Take a break." Anandria Stertcthen said to the starting and substitute midfielders, forwards, and goalkeepers. Whilst defensive training was in one area of the training ground, offensive training was happening in another. Lille Danshouvera had been practicing her freekicks, corners, penalties, and finishes along with Ayera Livendottir. The midfield mostly focused on crossing, passing, and build up play. Irena Svaneska, the starting goalkeeper was focusing on her reflexes and reaction timing, along with Stetka Van Idihouen and Amelia Westfield. Everyone was tense to say the least. The entire team, including the management staff knew that Sarzonia was not going to be a very easy opponent. They knew that Sarzonia would focus on defensive measures, according to last tournament results.

"Ayera, help me on one-two plays, will you?" Lille asked to Ayera. Most had left to take a break, considering that training was over. "Sure, why not. Maybe we could convince coach to drop the double pivot?" Ayera asked as she picked up a ball. "We can try later." Lille answered back to Ayera, as she received the ball, and started their one-two training. Truth be told, Lille and Ayera were friends since highschool. Both being born in Trinover, with both being fans of Trinover City. However, they had split up after highschool, and they never really met again until last JRC. Manager Mira Natashia was just secretl spying on them, she knew of their pasts. It's the manager's job to know about the players. If Mira could start for the team to co-hease better than last tournament, maybe Atheara has a chance of retaining their title.

Afterall, it has been some years since the last Jenna Raven Cup. The thought of the defending champions crashing out of the group stage was oddly frightening. At the very least, all that home can hope for is for Atheara to at least make it into the next round.

Sharktail Post EP 60

Sharktalian women national team assemble for a second time. After a succesful journey in Games of Melayu Olympiad which they won a gold medal, this time it will be a more bigger stage.

Jenna Raven Cup, or should we also said as Women's World Cup back for their second edition of JRC as it also mark 15th edition of Women WC.

For some football fans at Sharktail, participation in the women world cup has received a bit less attention. Undoubtedly, the sport that is usually monopolized by men in sharktail has causes development at the female level to be limited. However, little by little the existence of this team can still be said to exist.

The official women's football tournament started 5 years ago through the organization of a women's football carnival in Kota Lama. At that time, participation was joined by only 8 teams including several university teams. If we refer to the roster list on this JRC 2, Nuha, Nisa and Diana are among the names that still stay until now.

Due to activity constraints, we can assume none of them are exactly able to focus fully in football. Overall they have other jobs other than football. Relying entirely on football is not a guarantee as the existing clubs are not at the pro level and have no solid finances. They are only paid much less than youth league players.

A simple example is Nisa Badrain. She was a police inspector in Sharktail. Nisa has been active in sports since she started her job. She often participates in sports or leisure festivals organized by the Sharktail security body. At a football festival 5 years ago, she joined the Police Department squad.

In an interview, Nisa admitted apart from her duties as a police inspector, she still tries to keep time to at least practice with her teammates a few time per week.

"My commitment to the main task is definitely a priority. So to some extent I will try divide my time. I should be thankful for the relief given by the department if I need to be involved in sports activities. Although sometimes it is quite difficult to get it, yet when there's a chance I won't waste. "

When asked if she had any thoughts of becoming a full -time athlete, Nisa gave a safe answer.

"To join the security department or even be an athlete, both are hard and challenging. I'm happy to be able to do both. However, if I have to choose one, I might sacrifice my career as an athlete. 100% of my commitment to my job. For now, I am can still do both.

Sharktail will host Devonta’s visit at the Blue Stadium for the first action of group C. The first 3 point mission for Sharktail.

Schima Bas Women’s

Important RP Note:

Listed here is my best XII, for my matchday lineup, check my most recent RP, the starting lineup for the next match is always at the bottom. Thanks! :)

National team record: First outing
Manager: Olivar Wright
Captain: Jis Greana
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Style Modifier: -1

Olivar Wright is a coach that has had success coaching in Allento, and has many ties with front offices in the Crown Premier League, the highest division of men’s football in Schima Bas. Wright utilizes a 4-2-3-1 formation, which is fairly uncommon in Schima Bas, with only top-flight club L’embac Ourelasia known for the setup. Wright trusts heavily in the midfield’s connectivity, and has stated that the formation is great for any team he has managed so far.

Predicted Lineup

GK: Abdia Tame, 28
D: Amira Otago, 22
D: Occia Allim, 31
D: (C) Jis Greana, 25
D: Djanne Vuzuhalle, 27
DM: Bethany Aviva, 24
DM: Shaffan Basha, 27
AMF: Allie Castile, 23
AMF: Jesinta Drake, 26
AMF: Alve Hartung, 24
FW: Gloria Hudson, 23[/align]

Note on Women's Football in Schima Bas

*Note: Previously published in WC89
Women’s clubs have operated for years in Shima Bas, with many resurrecting after the war as a means for women to find community again in the wake of tragedy. Despite this success, the Shima Bas Football Association has not reached out to any female players to participate in the country’s inaugural World Cup.

In addition to this, there has been no word from the FA in regards to the establishment of a women’s football league or pyramid structure. Many around the country hold personal and religious beliefs against women participating in sport, but these beliefs have fallen away slightly since the start of the civil war. These changes may be caused by more close interactions between men and women, splintering the strict separation that accompanied the region before the war. This has spurned on a bit of a culture war in the country, as many debate if long-held traditions still hold weight.

Since WC89, Women's football has seen a growth in support, with attendance growing in major sports markets in the country. The Coastal League is still the league that has managed to attract the most talent, filling up its 6 teams with some of the best female talent in the country. A rivaling league, set to take bids from clubs in larger markets than the country cities of the Coastal League: most notably Ourelasia and Alquierdi. A spokesman from Barracelio FC announced that the club would be putting aside funds towards the establishment of a women's club in Alquerdi that would play in Fusili Park, the only major club to do so.

The Crown has been a major factor in the growth of football in Schima Bas, but has been relatively quiet on the funding of the women's game. Sports are segregated by gender in much of Schima Bas, and the sports provided to women are more commonly volleyball or baseball than football, which is often thought to be a masculine sport.

Major players in the Coastal League and other leagues across Schima Bas have petitioned local governments to provide funding for women's football. In some cases they have been successful, like when Jis Greana's #Backourgirls initiative, fueled by popular support from other professional footballers and sportsplayers, male and female, established football academies in 10 cities around the country, raising the funding goal in a month and a half.

Roster

Goalkeepers

Abdia Tame, 28
Marisah Kioli, 27

Abdia Tame is a smaller goalkeeper than most. She tries to make up that difference in jumping strength and careful positioning. In the past season, she managed a 15 game shutout streak with Estrella CF. Kioli is taller, but lacks some of Tame’s electricity.

Defense

LB: Amira Otago, 22
CB: Occia Allim, 31
CB: (C) Jis Greana, 25
RB: Djanne Vuzuhalle, 27

LB: Attica Houseman, 21
CB: Homer Laisa, 28
CB: Bibi Gallant, 22
RB: Gamila Horus, 23

The defense, while less talented than many other defensive cores in the tournament, is commanded exceptionally well by Jis Greana, who is likely the greatest female sportsman currently alive in Schima Bas. Greana learned under Occia Allim, who still showcases exceptional defending, but has certainly declined in relation to her student. Greana’s ability to stick to an offensive play and make a powerful disruptive play makes her a great asset to the team. If any part of this defence is the weak link, it may be Amira Otago, who has made mistakes in key moments in the past. Her backup, Attica Houseman, has only been a professional for 2 months, and is fairly untested.

Midfield

LAMF: Allie Castile, 23
CAMF: Jesinta Drake, 26
RAMF: Alve Hartung, 24
DMF: Bethany Aviva, 24
DMF: Shaffan Basha, 27

AMF: Bimi Audresi, 29
AMF: Justice Feeley, 29
AMF: Crystal Panayiota, 21
DMF: Nour Abamari, 27
DMF: Autumn Grassley, 24

A large amount of the Schima Bas strategy going into this tournament is focused on the midfield. Under Oliver Wright’s leadership, the midfielders have been drilled to emphasize tight, controlled passing. Wright likes to rotate the midfield constantly, switching the starters often. He always likes his players to fight for their position, and many have complained of this in the past, as his substitutions can be frequent. The backups are close in talent to the starters, and the core is the most fit on the team due to the additional pressure.

Offense

FW: Gloria Hudson, 23

FW: Hannah Junitsh, 25
FW: Deborah Smalls, 30

The offense of the women’s team differs from the men’s team with only a single striker up top. Gloria Hudson has been performing excellently in the growing Coastal League, representing her Acesisi home club Cruz AFC, a side that has underperformed in the league since its founding. After joining the club on her 21st birthday, she helped the club to its first top-half finish during her first season. Before her arrival, the side regularly finished 5th or 6th in the 6 team league, and never finished higher than 5th. In her second season she was sidelined due to injury for more than a quarter of the season, but continued in her previous success after her return. In her most recent season, she broke her rookie goalscoring record, and helped Cruz AFC to a second-place finish, thought impossible years before. Hudson offers an exceptionally strong heading danger for any opposing keeper, assisted by her 5’11 frame, and has a killer left foot to boot, always requiring tight marking in the box. The young player can sometimes be too ambitious, and can develop a short fuze in pressuring situations.

Behind Hudson are Hannah Junitsh and Deborah Smalls. Junitsh offers similar qualities to Hudson, but is right footed, and much weaker on her non-dominant foot. She also is shorter overall that Hudson, coming in at 5’5, and may not fit the system as well as she would hope.

Smalls is a legend in the basian women’s game, having campaigned for the establishment of the Coastal League, and establishing connections within the sport to offer funds to girls clubs across the country in the post-war years. Her tenacity on the pitch cannot be understated, but her age and knee injuries have caught up to her. She is currently a free agent, having been released from Dos Arbores after her 2-year deal expired.

The Commonwealth of Baker Park Women's National Team returns to the Jenna Raven Cup/WWC 15 looking to improve upon their quarterfinal appearance from the previous edition while developing the next generation of rising women players in Baker Park. Nine members of the roster have made 5 or fewer starts in the Black & Gold shirts, with another six getting their first call-up to the Senior Team pool.

Pryna Rasanamira will provide the experienced leadership, as her 71 appearances is just one fewer than the combined total of all the players younger than 25 in the squad--plus Amy Hardwick; she will share the captaincy with Susana Aguilar, who will reach her milestone 50th cap during the tournament.

Two of the NT's Senior 1st team coaches will lead the staff, as Tony Weiss and Hailey Reinhart-Zavaros will be aided by youth team coach/instructor Kristen Sawyer & assistant GK coach Rich Gabriel.

Sportsman's Park (39,000) is the most iconic outdoor sport venue in the Commonwealth. It is the oldest permanent stadium still in use (completed in 1921) and until the most recent WC cycle had hosted more NT fixtures (34) than every other site except for President's Park in Shirley, but has dropped behind the BBP National Stadium into third.

[OOC note and over-the-top but still relevant disclaimer: Yes, I'm back with another IC explanation for a hiatus that few national teams would take in real life. This incorporates some of my OOC experiences from the past couple of months with my mental health and my efforts to feel better mentally. I am not a therapist, however, and my RP is not a replacement for professional mental health guidance.]

A ball has come to me. I kick the ball away from me. Why am I kicking the ball? How do I know how to kick a ball?

Another day, another practice for the otherwise inactive Muralosian national soccer team. The Hawks, once again, had their future hanging in the balance, with no competition to play.

The inactivity was hitting Valora Lin especially hard. Just a few months ago, it seemed that she had settled into a great rhythm. The excitement of the crowd in Komcatt Arena last April, the rapport that her teammates had through the WCQs, the sheer exhilaration of making plays and getting a soccer ball where she wanted it to be – these things were unforgettable, and it seemed like they would last for a long time. She felt so sure.

Where was her happiness now, though? Oh, how melodramatic, she thought as this question crossed her mind. Her life was not a Chekhov play or a Tolstoy novella. She had been through much worse than a oh-so-classic, super-on-brand Muralosian national team hiatus, and yet this, more than anything, felt like it would swallow her whole. She could feel the vestiges of her excitement for soccer, soup dumplings, Urbego Love Story, rafting adventures in Makarov, etc. etc. fade. She heard that reminiscing about good memories would help keep her in a good mood, but when she tried to think about the IAC in Muralos or Christmas in Græntfjall, she bristled.

"That was then, this is now," she said to herself. "These days, I couldn't enjoy myself if I tried."

The rootlessness of Lin's current situation had melted her happiness away [even if it wasn't the worst thing in the world]. Muralos is a strange place, if not a bad place, to be a women's athlete. Being a national team athlete is lucrative when the team's not on hiatus. But what happens when it is? Taking a coaching job and playing domestically only..... or getting a "real job..." Why were these prospects so disheartening for Lin? Why did they do nothing for her numbness and malaise?

All was not lost, thankfully. One night, Lin had dinner at Urup with Vilhelmo Lumin and Anka, and they saw a play afterwards at the Chekhov Theatre. The air was crisp and cool that night; the monorail rides and walks from place to place were pleasant. For once, Lin felt like her mental state wasn't so horrible after all. (Of course, it wasn't so simple as "she went out one night and felt better"; it took a lot to get to this point.)

On top of the little things Lin did with her life, there was now a little tournament to gear up for: the second Jenna Raven Cup, also known as the 15th Women's World Cup. Practices had a little more meaning for Lin now. She could manage to smile at Andrea Lin, Daniela Safonova, and the other youngsters on the JRC roster. She donned a number 10 jersey, and while she felt terribly unfit for it, she didn't hate it.

She still had one lingering, uncomfortable question in her mind: what happened to the Valora Lin of December 2020 to June 2021? Yes, people change and move on, but she went through so much growth during the Baptism of Fire, the 12th IAC, and the two World Cup qualifiers. And now, she felt like that part of her was on the other side of a broken bridge.

The worst thing about these questions is that you can't give them satisfactory answers. In fact, you really shouldn't. Lin thought of it like scratching a bug bite or popping a zit – yes, it's your first impulse to do those things, but you'll wind up with something much nastier if you do them. If Lin were to tell herself "I'm fine! Everything is fine, really!" ..... she would then have to work overtime trying to continually convince herself of that.

So, instead, Lin grapples with the uncertainty of it all.

"Maybe I am no longer that person, and will never be again," she thought one rainy Sunday morning while jogging to Komcatt Arena. "Or maybe I am still that person. Whatever the case may be, I will be at peace with myself."

With a domestic league setup with mixed genders playing in one competition, it is pretty surprising that United Adaikes has two national football teams. One is an all-men team, and the other is an all-women team. As one of the most popular sports in the country, the United Adaikes Football Association proudly presents the United Adaikes national women's football team!

Banija Women's National Team- The Wanawake Kadongo Kamu

Information
Country code: BNJ
Denonym: Banijan(s)
Association: Royal Banijan Soccer Association(RBSA)
Nickname: The Wanawake Kadongo Kamu
Manager: Namakula Kawesa. 41 years old. Former longtime national team starter, WCC Hall of Famer, World Cup 86 champion. Female flag standard bearer for Banija at the XV Summer Olympiad. Presently an assistant coach for Sporting Iturributa in Astograth, she has been granted release from her club to coach the women's national team at this tournament. The women's team in Banija does not compete frequently enough to have a full-time manager, so per tradition, she will be in charge for the tournament and then go back to her day job in Astograth.

Of course, the manager for the senior national team, Pam Scott, will be at the tournament, 'observing as a scout'- but not interfering with the locker room. While the roster was hand picked by Pam Scott, it will be Kawesa in charge- picking the lineups, the formation, etc.. To try and put the team in position to win the tournament, while Pam Scott watches along to see which players would be best to integrate into the senior squad.
Captain: Koba Konateh
Alternate Captain: Juka Jarju

Away Kits: White
Alternate: Orange

The Women's World Cup- how rivalry intersects with opportunity to make this year's Jenna Raven tournament a particularly interesting one to follow

ASKATASUNA, AKSUM- We all know the last taste that the Kadongo Kamu left in our mouths. 9 straight World Cup appearances, including reaching at least the quarterfinals of five of the last 6 World Cups. And then, World Cup 89 Qualifying- we don't need to talk about it. Highest ranked team to ever fail to qualify for the World Cup Finals? Check. Highest ranked team to enter the Cup of Harmony? Check. And then... A disastrous Cup of Harmony. Basically the same roster from Qualifying was brought over, with a different manager, and the results were... Disastrous, to say the least. Just one win in four group stage games. Rescued by others on the final group stage matchday, where we didn't even play. And just when you think the team was finally starting to turn a corner with a knockout stage win... We fell on penalties in the Round of 16. Ranked 5th in the world- just to fall completely flat on our faces.

Nations like Pasarga and Eura... When they missed the World Cup and went to the Cup of Harmony, they both made runs to the Final. Pasarga won the whole tournament in one of the most dominating Cup of Harmony performances we've seen from a single team in a while. And Banija... Well, we don't have the history of either of those Rushmori nations. So with our new manager, Pam Scott, we're tearing everything apart and rebuilding from the ground up. Missing the World Cup was bad enough- but bombing out of the Cup of Harmony like we did to follow that up set off alarm bells across Banijan soccer. Fierce debates are happening right now- are we not developing enough talent? Is Banijan talent not seeing the field enough for their clubs? Are we even doing a good job unearthing that talent.

The debate is currently zeroing on a few places right now. The first- the opportunity to play in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League. Arguably the best domestic league in the world, with 10 teams from Banija and 10 more from Farfadillis. And yet, out of the 9 S-FPL teams that are returning this year- only one has a starting XI that is a majority Banijan. Hell, Jinja City was out there last season, running out with just a lone Banijan member of the starting XI. There are strong discussions on how to get Banijan players access to the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, although that is for another day. And another issue- not enough opportunities for Banijans to break into the starting XI. We haven't done the U18 or the U21 World Cups since we won them, both over five cycles ago. Hard to get players opportunities.

So the new manager and national teams director, Pam Scott of Baker Park, is putting an emphasis on getting players opportunities. "We're going to get back to the youth tournaments, we're going to get back to the Women's World Cup." She told media in a press conference. "Those are both high-level tournaments, with an opportunity to test players under pressure." She spoke about the importance of returning to the Di Bradini Cup, and then talked about the Women's World Cup. "There are plenty of talented female soccer players within Banija. And they deserve an opportunity to see if they can play for the senior side. We're not talking about women who are already part of the senior core- nobody like Ikpeazu or Uster. But players in the S-FPL, in the BLS, who need that opportunity to get looked at. The Women's World Cup will bring both pressure and plenty of games, with an opportunity for so many to get minutes."

Fast forward to now- and here we are. A Women's World Cup team, full of domestic based players. Not our stars, but maybe players who can help us throughout the grind of World Cup 89 Qualifying. With former national team star Namakula Kawesa as the manager. "I would, of course, like to thank Sporting Iturributa for allowing me to take the time off necessary to coach the women's team at this tournament." She told the press. "I'm excited to be the head honcho for the first time. We've got a talented group of 23 women, who I think can carry the banner and flag proudly for this country. I'll be able to put this team together, but we're thinking big." When asked about the senior side's struggles and if those effect this team, she said no.

"This is not about making up for the failure of qualifying for the World Cup." Namakula Kawesa said. "That can only be undone by qualifying for the World Cup, and these games are not World Cup Qualifiers. However, this is the start of the journey to World Cup 90 Qualifying. It's about who can get on the roster, who can show their skill in a tournament like this. Pam Scott's going to be here- watching players, and not just on the pitch. How they train. How they buy into what the coaching staff is telling them. How coachable they are. How they act on their off days- are players focused and treating away days like business trips, or do they treat them like vacations? Do they follow curfew? There's a whole lot that goes into playing on the national team, and these 23 women are going to get a great opportunity to try and make the final 23 for World Cup 89 Qualifying."

With the tournament, comes six games. Three home, three away. It is a very curious group. First, of course, is the Commonwealth of Baker Park. A women's' team that we have played a few times before. "Obviously, we've got great respect for Baker Park and what they do over there." Kawesa said. "Their women's program is phenomenal. That's what I call the definition of a big game. Both teams certainly are going to play to win, which will make for an entertaining game." Second, will be the senior team's archrivals, Equestria. "I've played plenty of games in the Equestria-Banija rivalry- I know how big that game can be." Kawesa said. "Even if we are not the senior side, the emotions are going to be riding high going into both Equestria matches. We've never beaten them at any level- the women's team landing a win over Equestria would be big for this team, psychologically."

And, of course, Lisander will wrap up the group. Banija will start the tournament at St. Sava Park in Askatasuna, then jet off for three consecutive away games, before ending with two more games at home. Will the ladies impress and make it to Sarzonia? Or will they fall flat and exit the tournament with a whimper? Hard to say- but we'll find out soon the projected path for this game when we have our home opener against the Commonwealth of Baker Park.

Let the tournament begin

''Alright girls move up keep the quick pace, keep the ball moving!'' Kira and her offense quickly passed the ball around while she looked at every player individually to see how they were coming along, further ahead on the pitch Nadya was doing the defense training with the defenders and the keepers were with their own trainer ofcourse.

''Offense, when you go for a tackle don't always take the same side, you'll become predictable if you don't change your rhythm each time, anyway move the ball up and score that goal Holly!''
A long pass to Holly Moonlight as she made an overhead kick into the back of net as she landed on both her feet

Meanwhile at the defense

''Girls, today im gonna discuss our tactics for our first opponent, we are going to completely shut down their attack with a famous tactic called the Catenaccio Counter, this is why i also included some midfielders in here.
Basically we surround the sole attacker, the last defender, Klara in this case acts as a sweeper and has to steal the ball and set-up the counter while we change from defence to offense within a few seconds here.

There is also a variation with a second sweeper but thats something we'll get to later, for now i want you all to concentrate to surround the attacker quickly and pass the ball back to the free player.
We soon have our first match and we won't lose, we are the Starsian Women's Team!''

And so they trained their butts off until late, the day before the match was now and this evening they would have a small press conference with interviewers from multiple countries with their coach and Kira Blade and herself

At the press conference

Interviewer: ''So welcome everyone, this is the final press conference with the Starsian Womens team before they will play their first match tomorrow and i can't say i ain't curious to see them play.
With me are the coach and the two leading players on the team Kira Blade and Nadya Cross, welcome girls!''

Kira: ''Thanks, its great to be here and we are looking forward to our game tomorrow.''

Interviewer: ''Thats good, do you have a strategy for the game? your opponents are in the mixed tournaments known as a pretty decent team while The 14 Stars is quite new in the Multiverse.''

Kira: ''Ofcourse we do, but we won't tell it just yet, we indeed know our opponents and i have watched their national team's matches in the last world cup being quite impressed by their playings and style.
While it will be a tough game i know me and my team can win this if we work together.''

Interviewer: ''Thats a nice statement, we have seen you play earlier in the WCQ88 but what can we expect of you this time Kira?''

Kira: ''From me it will be the same great plays as you're used to but the womens team is vastly diffrent from the mixed team with less physical strenght we need to look for other ways to play great soccer!''

Interviewer: ''Alright thats it for today, we wish you all luck with the coming games!''

The Football Fallacies
with The Man from Markovsky

BLOODY HELL, IS IT THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN ALREADY?

Hello and welcome to The Football Fallacies. Right, so once again Abanhfleft are back in the Women’s World Cup, which is now also called the Jenna Raven Cup for whatever reason that I don’t care to know at the moment. The last time we were at the Women’s World Cup, it didn’t turn out so well for us! Kate Bernanos decided to go with what is for all intents and purposes the Abanhfleft B team for the Women’s World Cup to see if anyone on there was worthy enough of getting into the A team that’s actually going to compete in the World Cup qualifiers on alternating years with the men’s team. And it was clear from their performance in the group stages why they were the B team, because it took the lasses two losses before they finally realized that the whole point of playing football is to win. They weren’t doing a fat lot of winning back then, that’s for sure! Then we of course get to the elephant in the room that is the classic Abanhfleft collapse in the first round of the knockout stage of a tournament, this time against Saterun. Thankfully, Saterun didn’t win the Women’s World Cup or else I wouldn’t have had anyplace to put my schadenfreude in.

Well, time to move on from the past, as they always say. Time to look ahead to the future and, thankfully, there is not a single Saterun in sight. Of course, that just leaves the door open for another team to come and claim their turn to be the one to beat Abanhfleft in the first round of a playoff match. So why don’t we just take a look at the other teams that we’ve got in the same group as ours and see if any of them have the potential to knock us out of the running even before we’ve made it to the groups, huh?

First up is The 14 Stars. Yes, that is indeed their official short name. Not to be confused with the Stars of Sarzonia, which is the Sarzonian football team, mind. Anyway, The 14 Stars are quick and fast on the ball, looking to get themselves set up through rapid-fire passing, with their overall game plan seemingly to tire out the opposition by making them chase after the Starsians. Yes, that is indeed their demonym. Players to watch out from The 14 Stars are defender Klara Jenssen, who looks like she can shove a freaking professional wrestler out of the way if she so wishes! Then there’s their playmaker Christiana Love, also described as a sort of an Aphrodite, who might catch the eye of some of our players who lean towards the sapphic kind of love, if you know what I mean. Not shaming anybody, by the way. I’m just saying. And finally we have Kira Blade, daughter of Starsian national hero Marcus Blade (that’s what they say anyway) and apparently the best player on this team. If you ask me, she kinda sounds like their version of Chelsea Stuart, although it’s still too early to tell if Blade will have a similar domestic and/or international record that the Chelz had.

Next up is StrayaRoos, which judging by their name may have some sort of Australian influence going on. Whether it’s Australian women or kangaroos that will play against us is another question for another time though because we don’t have anything to go on about them. So we’ll just move on to our final groupmate, Galliena. We don’t have much about Galliena’s tactics; the only information we have about them is their roster, and also the fact that Gallienese women are as prone as their male counterparts to shout things at the players that will make your nan’s nan blush. Boy, they sure know how to make a man have a good time in a great atmosphere, and I haven’t been there yet!

Well, that’s all that there is for me now. If you’ve got any comments or thoughts of your own or even predictions for our first match against The 14 Stars then feel free to leave them down below. Until then, I’ve been the Man from Markovsky, praying that this time, I won’t be so disappointed in my country.

Playing for a Greater Cause

HUElavia enters the Women's World Cup with a difficult group in a tournament that has more meaning than ever before.

HUElavia returns to another football tournament after a normal Round-of-16 run in the Cup of Harmony, now with a chance for HUElavia's women to gain more experience and show their strengths and talents for the upcoming IAC 14 coming up next year. After a terrible debut in the Jenna Raven Cup I four years ago that saw Las Amarillas/As Amarelas go out in the Group Stage with 5 points out of 18, it was a tough result for a very promising team. This time around, the team is mainly filled with some regulars, while some fringe and debuting players will be getting play time.

The ladies will be playing in honor and respect for the HUElavian women that have been affected for the past three years due to the current administration, where they look to give a great performance to elevate their message and give something for the fans to cheer and support. Although, this goal may be a complicated one. HUElavia has been drawn in Group A with the likes of Sarzonia, Eshialand, and Atheara. Out of all the groups, this one seems to be a Group of Death given all four teams seem keen on playing to advance to the Final Tournament in Sarzonia, going from Quarter-Finals onwards. Although, Group D is also another morbid group with plenty of Sporting History between the teams of Lisander, Banija, Commonwealth of Baker Park, and Equestria.

For the three home games HUElavia has been given, the HUElavian Football Association has announced the following three venues will be used by the team: Nuevo Estadio del Rio (80,000) in Rio de HUEska, Estádio Costeiro (78,000) in HUEsilia, and Estadio Hueti (63,000) in Jinaqa. The stadiums will host Sarzonia, Atheara, and Eshialand respectively for the matches. As is tradition for HUElavian matches, 85% of tickets will go to HUElavia, while 15% will go to the visitors for sale.

Liana Fonseca-Mantovani, one of the most experienced players on the roster will be captaining the team, along with the likes of Nádia Resendes and Ringo Yamane serving as the Vice-Captains for the team. While the main XI seem to be regulars for the team, there are some promising young players and solid club stalwarts in the mix as well that look to give Conavacio a reason for him to pick them for the upcoming IAC, sans any injury occurring.

The next couple of weeks will be difficult, but Las Amarillas/As Amarelas will be taking it a game at a time to get the most out of the matches as always. The opening game will be a visit Eshialand, where thousands of HUElavians will be present to cheer on the team in a very impactful match. Here's to what can be an emotional and impactful tournament.
