That's about as basic a requirement for hosting as it gets.

The quick and dirty of scorination is running a software programme to generate scores and tables (standings in American parlance) and post those.

The basics of hosting involves putting in numbers like the ranks, style modifiers (if applicable) and RP bonuses into the software programme and generating those scores and tables. It also involves reading RPs and grading them, plus be able to handle administrative tasks such as knowing when to cut off roleplays for that particular match day or handling disputes between players.

One example of disputes between players is if a player accuses another of violating their "permissions box," say, a player RPs having a pandemic such as the RL pandemic we're still in or an imaginary RP'd pandemic and another player specifies no pandemics in their permissions box. You have to decide if Player 1 violated Player 2's permissions and decide how to handle that situation.

I haven't done basketball, but I've hosted enough other events to have a sense for what's involved. I think you can eventually host something like this if you observe more experienced hosts and what they do as a player in one of these tournaments.

There's no real requirement. It's generally considered polite, though, to your fellow players to post a "roster", meaning a list of your players. You can see them linked from the opening post of the previous edition: some people can get very detailed! But a few names are all you really need.

As to how the championship will work, the precise format will be outlined by whomever wins the hosting bid, but it usually consists of teams playing in a group stage, followed by the top teams for each group qualifying for a knockout-style playoffs to a final. Scores are generated using a "scorinator", which is a random number generator that combines three elements: randomness, rank (as a new entrant you'll be unranked), and RP bonus (posting a roleplay e.g. a match report, interview with your players, information about your country).

After little thought and even less consideration, Basketball Quebec (BQ) and the Bollonischian Basketball Association (BBA) present their bid to host the International Basketball Championship 33.

Bollonich has also hosted the 14th International Baseball Slam and the 23rd Handball World Cup with Equestria and is currently hosting the 13th Volleyball World Expo with Hispinas.

Considered to be one of the 'Big 3' of indoor sports played in Quebecois winters (Basketball, Hockey and Volleyball, while Handball is the summer indoor sport here), basketball is an extremely popular, well-loved sport in Quebec. With massive attention given to both teams, and all levels of basketball being watched from high school to international stage, the Quebecois are expected to bring the fire and fury to their cheering and jeering game.

Scorination and RP grading

Scorination will be done in the latest version of xkoranate on the basketball function.

RPs will be scored on a generous scale, with the grading criteria being based on quality, not quantity. While relevance to the tournament and the sport would come handy, the grading will not be significantly affected by you roleplaying different content (e.g. Nyowani Kitara Conflict, Yuezhou Civil War, etc). RP bonus will serve as a significant factor in the scorination. They will be cumulative, all the way through.

Rosters will be graded to an equivalent of a matchday, with the same criteria being used as the roleplays themselves. The grading will be done based on how the rosters faithfully meet the requirements expected from them- positions, height, home venues, playing style - and additional details, which would come handy for other RPers to come helpful.
To continue with the recent trend of events, the rank will be halved for unrostered sides, whose rank will be restored to their original rank after the roster submission. This is to ensure every RPer is able to have their optimum experience, which may be affected with lack of a roster by the opponent, and thus emphasising the importance of rostering to every participant.

Format

Right now, we have 40 signups. Assuming there will be at least 40 signups, there are several possible options available. For now, let’s say we will run with a 40 team format. But if there are bigger or smaller number of signups by the time of the cutoff, there will be adjustments made to accommodate the change. So, we have the following possibilities, should we reach more than 50 teams:

40 teams -> 4 groups of 10 teams, Single Round Robin (1/24) -> Top four for each group advance
48 teams -> 8 groups of 6 teams, Double Round Robin (1/24) -> Best two of each group advance for Round of 16
50 teams -> 5 groups of 10 teams, Single Round Robin (1/24) -> Top four of each group + four best 5th placed teams advance for Round of 24

All matches will be played in Bollonich and Quebec.There is an update to formats. If under double round robin format (most likely option atm with a 48 team format), group stage will be held under home and away matches, with all knockout round matches to be held in Quebec and Bollonich. Both cohosts will not be placed as the top seed.

The knockout rounds will be single elimination with a Third Place playoff, though whether there will be a 1-16/24 seeding or more conventional, football-styled format, will most likely depend on the number of signups. If done under the former in terms of seeding, group stage rematches will be avoided up to the Round of 16.
