July, 1969

Quang Nam Province, Vietnam

IC Synopsis
Image

The Tet offensive was ended 1 year ago, and southern forces have pushed the North Vietnamese back up into the northern regions of Vietnam, securing the Allied positions over the key strategic locations in Da Nang and Hue City. However the PAVN and NLF are far from defeated and are back to engaging in a guerrilla war against American and allied forces.

In this RP you are in the Quang Nam region of Vietnam, 30 miles west of Da Nang. The Southern Forces are stationed at Firebase Whitworth, with the main task of providing advance warning to Da Nang to PAVN or NLF movements, and to destroy any North Vietnamese forces they can. While Whitworth is a US Army base, that doesn't meant that only US Army soldiers are in the base. Forces from ARVN, Australia, and New Zealand are present on the base, however in much lower numbers than their US Army counterparts.

The PAVN forces in the region comprise of 2 Battalions of infantrymen and 1 artillery battery that are currently causing the hairs of all firebase commanders in Quang Nam to turn grey. Their objective is not to push for Da Nang, but rather to harass Southern forces in the region, which they have been doing rather effectively.

However their opponents are not the only thing that the soldiers in Quang Nam have to fear, for there is something in the jungles with them. Something not human. The soldiers in the region have carried on fighting each other, unaware of the presence of this supernatural threat, but for months now it has been stalking them. Lurking in the brush, waiting for the time to strike as it grows ever hungrier, and that time is soon to come.

Nitty-Gritty OOC stuff

While this RP is set during the Vietnam War, it is primarily a horror RP, and should be driven by the characters struggling to cope with this supernatural horror as opposed to fighting the Vietnam War.

In this RP you can play as a soldiers from any of the following Armies:

People's Army of Vietnam
US Army
Australian Army
New Zealand Army
Army of the Republic of Vietnam

However, the highest rank you can play as is 1st Lieutenant (Or whatever it's equivalent is in your chosen army). I will only allow 2 Helicopter pilots to be played, and playing as an artilleryman will not be allowed until this RP has several players filling more essential roles to the story.

Firebase Whitworth is equipped with 2 batteries of US Army field Artillery, and 1 company of American M113 APC's, the arty positions will be playable later on but players can apply as tankers immediately.

Each player can have up to 2 characters.

1. As OP my word is law, and any co-ops are an extension of my power
2. You are able to debate with myself or a co-op, however our decisions will be final
3. Keep this non-political, I don't want political arguments clogging up the OOC, we're here to have fun, not be Ben Shapiro
4. Be realistic, while this is a horror RP, you still can't take 3 bullets to the chest and keep fighting
5. In regards to language, keep swearing to dialogue only, and use proper grammar when not engaging in dialogue
6. No post length requirement but have your post advance something, whether it be dialogue, combat, or general action.
7. Treat other players with civility, openly racist, sexist, or homophobic remarks will result in an instant ban
8. Have fun!

Age:29

Despite this, locals still made fun of him for having the same name as Superman.

Upon Graduation he was accepted into West point, where the Bullying followed him, along with hazing by class mates when ever he failed. Despite this He became the Starting QB for West Point's football team and lead them to 3 national Championships and graduating at the top of his class, the nickname superman went from poking fun of him to a nickname of respect, but this didn't matter to the People that Ran the Army SF Q course, who rubbed it in his face every time Clark came up short, but again he showed them wrong, this time earning the respect of his instructors.

The Nickname Superman stayed with as he granted and received his Green Beret. Again he came under fire for the name at his first unit, where on a deployment to Laos, the name finally stuck as a sign of respect. He followed this up with 2 more successful deployments to Vietnam. He had earned a reputation for losing hardly anyone and getting the job done, and this has started a legend about him among the Allied Troops, and the North Vietnamese as a soldier you didn't want to duck with was the Man with Red and Blue S on his Helmet. He is currently serving a third tour in Vietnam leading a ODA of Green Berets.

Name: Alex Mayer
Image

Age: 31
Army: United States Army
Rank: Master Sergeant
Time Spent in 'Nam: 12 months
Weapons: M16 rifle, Ka-Bar Utility knife, Colt Commander
M.O.S (What do you do?): 18E- Special Forces Communications Sergeant; MACV advisor
General Personality Description: Not easily angered, can be frightened by unusual things, can sometimes be indecisive (especially when he's frightened)
Biography (2 paragraphs at least): Alexander Mayer was born to an officer in the Transportation Corps and a civil engineer- Thomas and Lucy Mayer. The Mayers were a military family- Alex's father had served in the Great War, and his grandfather had served in the Spanish American War.

At school Alex was smart and quick-witted. He learnt a lot about military history, and followed the Second World War and the Korean War avidly. His older brother served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the war. When he left school, he immediately joined the Army, and was posted to the 82nd Airborne Division- his brother's unit. He joined at the end of the Korean War- he had hoped for some frontline combat. He then volunteered for Initial Accession in the Special Forces, and excelled in the training. He graduated in 1959. Through his mother, he had learnt a lot about telecommunications, and so he became a Communications Sergeant. Two years later, the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) was formed, and through his airborne training Alex was transferred to the new unit. After a few tours of duty around the United States and Europe, he finally volunteered for combat, and was posted to Vietnam, with another position as a MACV sergeant.

If he took ROTC in college he would be an officer, unless he dropped out of college to go fight in Vietnam?

The Viet Cong, otherwise known as the National Liberation Front, was the guerrilla Militia fighters of the North Vietnamese, the PAVN, also known as the NVA, was the more professional, better equipped, and better trained wing of the North Vietnamese Military.

I just decided that the PAVN was operating in Quang Nam, which they were at this time

Ah. I thought they were separate for some reason. My guy is just part of the regular army so it's a non-issue anyway.

They are separate- the VC is a mixture of a paramilitary and civilian force, whilst the PAVN is your regular army in the same way as the US Army or the British Army is.

Aight so upon further inspection there is a glaring issue here

Theres no way that a 24 year old is going to be a master sergeant in SOCOM. Highest he would be is likely a corporal

Name: Johnathan McBryde
Image

Age: 22
Army: US Army
Rank: Sgt
Time Spent in 'Nam: 3 Years
Weapons: M2 Flamethrower, M1911
M.O.S (What do you do?): Combat Engineer (Flamethrower)
General Personality Description: Desensitized to violence, Johnathan kills first and asks questions later, wanting to go home in one pice and finish his enlistment with the same amunt of limbs as he started by all means.
Biography (2 paragraphs at least): Born in Texas in 1947, Johnathan grew up in the household of a WW2 veteran and a nurse. His father was a draftee, wounded at D-Day and discharged after a stay at a hospital in Britian afterwards, losing half of his arm. His father would fall for one of the nurses that treated him, and after the war they would wed and move back to Texas where they would raise up a family. Despite his handycap, he was still able to raise up a family, and Johnathan lived a relatively normal childhood until he graduated high school while his father worked on the family ranch with Johnathan's uncle. In 1966, Johnathan would recieve a draft card in the mail, and be conscripted into the army.

After completing training as a combat engineer, Johnathan would ship to Vietnam to serve many tours doing many jobs, from creating roads, to building FOBs, even crawling through tunnels and blowing up Viet Cong weapons caches, as a combat engineer Johnathan faced a wide array of duties in his service. He would rise through the ranks, as the lifespan for combat engineers ever dwindled due to their dangerous jobs, leaving much room for promotion in an already exceptionally dangerous war, and eventually he would be issued a flamethrower to be used for "clearing out foilage" in the combat zone. This is his last tour before his enlistment ends, and after survivng so long in combat he refuses to let his guard down, hoping that he can survive long enough to make it home after seeing the horriors of war.

If anyone askes where we were Saturday at 14:30, we were at The Pub, understand?

-If it's stupid, but it works, it ain't stupid.
-No Combat Ready unit has ever passed inspection.
-No Inspection Ready unit has ever passed combat.
