World Lacrosse Championships 38- Signups (Closed!)

Postby Cassadaigua » Wed Aug 11, 2021 4:06 pm

It's time to open signups for the 38th edition of the World Lacrosse Championships!

Over 37 editions, we have seen some greats in this competition. Cosumar, Sarzonia, Vangaziland, and Abanhfleft have all had tremendous success, but there is plenty of room for more nations to create their own legacy. It won't be easy though, the powers of the international scene will look to add this trophy to their collection, while others were are on the brink of success hope this is their breakout tournament.

If you would like to signup, please do so here. This post serves as the signup for Cassadaigua.

Also, we will need host bids. This is typically a good tournament for newer hosts to build their resume, but some experience with xkoranate and the forum in general will be useful. In your bid, you must, at minimum, describe your proposed format and method of scorination. If you've left anything out, please be prepared for questions. This is the winning bid of the last WLC, that can be used for reference.

The deadline for host bids will be August 21st at 8pm EDT.

Surprise sign up + host bid post

South Jeolerina's bid for WLC38

About South Jeolerina
South Jeolerina is a member of The Gothanita Isles, and part of the region of Rushmore. It is a very free and democratic nation, with citizens having as much personal rights as the legislative councilmen they elected in voting for proposed laws and bills. Civil Rights are widely abused, and Political Freedom is in levels unheard of, that it is pretty much similar to an anarchical nation. As for Lacrosse in the nation, it can be seen as one of the niche sports in South Jeolerina. The sport has recently gained popularity and even spurred talks about forming a domestic league, depending on the success of the team at the upcoming WLC.

Format of the Competition
Have only thought of 2 sets of numbers:
20 teams - 5 groups of 4 format. Single round-robin format, with top 2 and the best 3rd placed team advancing to the knockout stages. Group winners advance to the Quarterfinals, while the remaining 6 teams will play a play-in round. The match ups will be seeded based on group-stage results, done at the play-in round and the quarterfinals, while avoiding any form of group stage rematch before the semifinals.

24 teams - 6 groups of 4 format. Single round-robin, with the top 2 and the 4 best 3rd placed teams advancing to a Round of 16. The Round of 16 bracket will be done in a group-based seeding similar to the bracket adopted at the 32nd Copa Rushmori, with group stage rematches avoided till the semifinals.

20 teams - 5 groups of 4, double round-robin played with home-and-away format in respective nations. Group winners qualify for the Quarterfinals, while the group runners-up and best third-placed team will play a play-in round to qualify for the Quarterfinals.

24 teams - 6 groups of 4, double round-robin played with home-and-away format in respective nations. Top 2 and 4 best third-placed teams will qualify for the Round of 16. The Round of 16 bracket will be done in a group-based seeding similar to the bracket adopted at the 32nd Copa Rushmori.

28 teams - 7 groups of 4, double round-robin played with home-and-away format in respective nations. Top 2 teams will qualify for the Round of 16, while 4 best third-placed teams will play a play-in round to qualify for the Round of 16.

30 teams - 5 groups of 6, double round-robin played with home-and-away format in respective nations. Top 4 teams qualify for the Round of 20. Top 2 teams and 2 best third-placed teams get a bye to the Round of 16.

As every other format apart from the 24 teams format features a play-in round, the seeding for the knockouts will be settled as follows:
1) Teams participating in the play-in round will be seeded based on their performance, with position in the group taking precedence over any other tiebreaker.
2) Reseeding will be done after the play-in round to ensure that group stage rematches will be avoided before the semifinals in all cases.

Also, the knockout stages (including the play-in round) will definitely be done in South Jeolerina.

It will be scorinated with xkoronate, using the standard lacrosse file. Group Stage games will also go into overtime, with a point awarded in the group stage to teams who lost on overtime. Cutoffs will be held in the evenings in Asian time/mornings in American time (looking at 8-9pm UTC+8 at the moment). Cutoffs will be done daily, with an extra day break between the end of group stage and the Round of 16.

Tiebreakers for group stage/knockout seedings are as follows:
1. Points (3 for any win, 1 for a OT loss)
2. Head-to-head points
3. Head-to-head goal difference
4. Overall goal difference
5. Coinflip (OOC: Scorinated Match)

RP Bonus and Skill awarding
For returning nations, the current WLC rank coefficients will be scaled up in calculating their skill level. These participants will need to post a roster to be given the skill points per their coefficient. RP bonus will be given in a more lenient manner, given that the tournament is seen as a sideline to other ongoing tournaments. A similar grading scale to the 13th IAC will be adopted. In general, teams will find it easy to gain around 50-80% of the RP bonus with an effort to RP something (Example: this or this is enough to get approximately 60-70% of the points, though a user may need to put in quite a bit more effort to hit the 90%-100% RP bonus. (EDIT: This report might give a clearer picture on the way I give RP bonuses.) RP bonus will be given in a manner such that by the end of group stage, an unranked nation who produces quality RPs daily will have a comfortable margin over a top ranked, non-RPing nation.

Host Experience
The user has previously hosted and completed the 13th Independent Associations Championship. The user also has other hosting and scorinating experience, being a member of the IFCF council (as Poafmersia), and having scorinated multiple seasons of football leagues in Poafmersia & The Gothanita Isles.

Open for any questions.

Thank you for the bid Poaf. I just have one question which is:-

Given that lots of new players make their first appearances in the WLC (me included) is there any reason you are going for Groups of 4 with a single round robin as there will only be 3 match days to build up RP bonus. Looking to hear your side of this as the last time the WLC had groups of 4 it was with a double round robin hosted by Jeckland if I am not mistaken.

A Bid For The 38th WLC- Beaver River and Northwest Kalactin

IC Info
Northwest Kalactin
Northwest Kalactin is a nation of 25 million people, and has a rich history of Lacrosse. Whether they are hosting the Championships, participating, or justhaving some good old domestic lacrosse, there is no doubt this nation is in love with the sport. After recovering from an Anarchist period, it has been in many confusing states. Now, they are under the rule of a Congress Supermajority held by a primarily French Speaking party from out in the western reaches of the nation.

While the nation speaks French mainly now, almost all citizens are familiar with English and other regional languages. Northwest Kalactin is one of the first residents of Anaia, and signed the Foxchester Amendment, officially making them a part of the region. Northwest Kalactin, despite seeming more isolationist politically, is still very active in the sporting world, fielding teams across multiple sports in international competitions. Lacrosse wise, the nation has participated in WLC’s since WLC 28, and has their own domestic league, of 8 teams.

Beaver River (OOCly known as Beaverriver)
Reemerging from a long slumber, Beaver River is a liberal democratic republic located in Esportiva. Beaver River has numerous national parks, wildlife preserves, and uncharted wilderness that makes the average outdoorsman happy for days. The environment is highly valued in Beaver River such that gasoline-powered cars are banned and bicycle paths are a norm throughout every city. Punishments for littering and pollution are strict. Additionally, Beaverites highly value the arts, breathing life into many cities and towns across the nation. Bordering Beaver River is Forestly who is more industry-friendly and is going through a referendum on joining Beaver River.

Beaver River has numerous cities spread out across the region. The river called Beaver River runs through the capital of the nation, Corvan. Corvan is home to numerous public servants as well as engineering firms thanks to Corvan State University. Meanwhile, the largest city, Salvan, is the hub for the entertainment industry and hosts many of the biggest music and film events in the country. Lacrosse in Beaver River has only been a regional sport in its history, though the Ministry of Sports hopes to bring more attention to the sport with its host bid.

Format
20 Teams: 4 Groups of 5; Top 2 From Each Group Advance
24 Teams; 4 Groups of 6; Top 3 From Each Group Advance; First Place Teams Get Bye
28 Teams; 4 Groups of 7; Top 3 From Each Group Advance; First Place Teams Get Bye

While we consider it unlikely under the currency circumstances, we are prepared for tournament sizes beyond 28, and we have also made preparations for group sizes in between our ideal formats

Experience
Northwest Kalactin
Northwest Kalactin is currently the Senior Partner of the bidding combination. He has made multiple contributions to the Lacrosse community, including his writing of the Lacrosse Program Kalactinator, and his hosting of the 35th World Lacrosse Championships, along with his work on the Premier Domestic Lacrosse Tournament on Nationstates, IDLO. Kalactin has also hosted many other competitions, including the 78th Cup of Harmony, the Coffs 7’s Rugby Tournament, the Mendez Bay Open, and a respectable number of smaller tournaments. Despite going on a hiatus earlier, Northwest Kalactin has returned after finding more time for Nationstates, and is back to RPing as regular.

Beaver River
Beaver River is the Junior Partner in the bidding combination. While they do not have international experience yet, they are eager to get into hosting their first competition, and they have taken the steps necessary to do so. They have hosted many Domestic Leagues between Beaver River, and their other nation, Felinetopia. They have presented a strong aptitude for RPing in many competitions, and are familiar with the workings of xkoranate.

Scorinator
We will use the tried and true xkoranate 0-3.3, with the standard Lacrosse formula.

RP Bonus
We will offer a generous RP Bonus that rewards competitors for writing quality over quantity. We will also be implementing a No-Roster Penatly. This will be a 20%, irreversible penalty that will take place if a competitor has not posted a roster before Matchday 1. We will give adequate time, preferably 7 days for nations to post rosters.
