Gzemnid-class Strategic Air Defense Radar

Image
An artist’s impression of a long-range radar system

Description: Many of the wars across the multiverse have had a significant part of the fighting revolve around the use of long-range weapons. An attacker, in such engagements, starts the fight by launching a large amount of cruise missiles, glide bombs, or tactical ballistic missiles from their maximum range, when the aircraft and ships carrying them are still outside the range of the defender's weaponry, and thus the defender's options are restricted to the question of how many missiles they can destroy, or perhaps divert. The limited range of defender radar often means that, by the time the defender even learns of the missiles' approach, they have perhaps scant minutes to prepare and launch a defense. Even worse, by that time the missiles had often descended to a very low, 'sea skimming' altitude, making targeting extremely difficult.

Part of the solution offered by the Serene Power Company is the Gzemnid Strategic Observation Radar. Composed of about a hundred thousand modules under a radar transparent radome, it is capable of detecting and tracking enemy missiles, aircraft, and even MIRVs at a range of up to 4000 kilometers, and, in the case of aircraft or re-entry vehicles that have a signature reduction element (so-called "low-observability" or "stealth" weapons or aircraft), at a range of 2,000 km. For this purpose, it is capable of operating in both the X-band (when detection of MIRVs is the priority) and S-band (in most other cases).

At this point, the radar team will have several options available to it. One would be to inform the civil defense authorities (a cruise missile 2,000 km away still gives individuals a leisurely two or three hours to get to shelter). Another one would be to transmit the target information to more short-range, local radars, which would be able to provide precise targeting information to air defense weapons. (In the near-future, the Serene Power Company intends to bring to market a containerized, advanced air defense radar with a targeting range of 400 km, capable of being transported on a standard semi-trailer trucks).

The radar is programmed with significant safety measures, preventing the radar from bringing its powerful beam onto civilians on the ground, or directly aiming it at aircraft. A safety area of 5 km around the radar is also required to avoid accidental triggering of explosives or pyrobolts aboard military or civilian aircraft.

Attached to the radar building is a large processing facility, where several high-power, mutually-redundant computers process the radar inputs and control the operation of the 100,000 radar elements. This allows for an improved resolution and reliability in detection and reporting, as well as increased precision and safety in control of the radar beam.

Two options for purchasing the Gzemnid Strategic Air Defense Radar are available for clients of the Serene Power Company. In one option, the client procures a given number of radar units, which would be imported and installed in those locations that the client chooses in advance, in coordination with our engineers. Another option (say, if you're one of those immense, multi-billion population empires) is to purchase, for a paltry sum of $300 billion, Domestic Production Rights for the radar unit, allowing you to produce them, without limit, for your own use. Should you choose this route, not only will you receive complete Domestic Production Rights for the radar, but you will also be visited by a team of SPC representatives that will advise your designated contractor on all issues that may arise during the construction of the radar and its building.

One problem many developing countries face is the difficulty in protecting their nation's air space. As Allanea's Minister of War, Priscilla Conde, said once – A country without a functioning air defense force is not a country – it is a target range. Another problem they face is the difficulty in maintaining appropriate infrastructure – and in particular, airports. As everyone knows, properly maintaining an air traffic control system requires a large amount of expensive equipment, and this may be a burden on a developing country.

Today, as the threat from foreign aggression only increases, we at the Serene Power Company offer you the option to resolve both of these problems with a single, budget-friendly purchase – the SPC-R-A Redithvatnet Dual-Use Radar. In simple words, this is a high-tech radar operating in the frequencies from 1.55 to 5.2 GHz. It is equipped with three sensors. Principal of them is a radar array, capable of detecting the entire range of targets – from commercial aircraft, to fighter jets and ballistic missiles.

The radar is fitted also with a passive optical sensor, essentially an ultra-high resolution camera linked to an image analysis computer for recognition and detection of any low-observability targets that get within horizon range – even if the radar is jammed, the Redithvatnet can still track targets in a limited way (although, naturally speaking, the horizon may be dozens of miles away depending on the target's distance). It is fitted also with an IFF recognition sensor, a device the usefulness of which during military exercises cannot be understated.

The Redithvatnet is available in two versions – a mobile and a fixed variant. The mobile version (Redithvatnet-M) is built in a standard shipping container, which holds within it a high-power processing station, an air conditioned work room, and various other hardware. As can be seen in the artist's impression above, the Redithvatnet-M's can be folded onto its roof, and although it does not fold inside the container (making it impossible to stack anything else ON TOP of the Redithvatnet-M), it can in be transported on any platforms that fit a standard shipping container – on a C-130 or larger aircraft, on a train or truck platform.

(The Redithvatnet-M is not designed to be transported by sea without appropriate packaging, and is not intended to be used as a naval radar).

For this important capability, the Redithvatnet-M pays with a reduction in its sensor capabilities – the radar panel has only 32 rows of sensor elements, reducing detection range as compared to the larger, fixed radar. The Redithvatnet-F (fixed) variant is heavier and more powerful, using 64 rows of sensor elements. It is assembled on-location by our personnel or contractors, and has a superior detection capability, as well as being more resilient (by its nature, a mobile radar is subject to a variety of risks, and a fixed radar can be protected by a radome).

The Redithvatnet series of radars is a budget-friendly solution, intended to fill the needs of both developing and developed nations for medium range radars, in both military and civilian applications.

Description:In today’s world, improved observation capabilities are no longer only the domain of government facilities and strategic installations. Commercial and civil organizations feel an increasing need to watch their perimeters - storage warehouses and car dealerships need to be protected against vandals and thieves, schools and corporate headquarters need to be protected against active shooters and burglars. From petty vandalism to terror attacks and megafauna incursions, the need for security equipment is growing.

But security equipment is expensive - not only to purchase and install, but also to maintain. An array of outdoor-capable weatherproof cameras is costly - when you consider their mountings, poles, regular repairs, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) swivels, they are even costlier, and when you consider their annual maintenance costs and energy bill... well, let’s just say little things add up.

Therefore, we at the Serene Power Company are offering you an advanced, environmentally-friendly solution. We propose that you equip your organization with radar. The Vigil series of radars is affordable on an organizational level, and, when installed properly, can replace an entire array of PTZ or fixed cameras due to their large coverage area. Moreover, it can be used in a system with regular CCTV cameras and other security sensors, and is compatible with standard PTZ camera mountings.

The radar can be installed on a standard civilian or military security network, and can be connected to standard Ethernet cables, which it uses to both communicate with its control station and receive power via the PoE (Power over Ethernet) protocol. The radar casing is made out of hardy, recycled material, and is IP67 compliant, which means it can operate rain, sleet, or snow. It can connect to standard control computers, or you can purchase our own VMS station. (Software for the radar is open source and is available from our corporate website.) The radar signal itself is secure against radar-based hacking attacks.

Because we are fully aware of the reality that civilian agencies often can, and do, have access to less-lethal and lethal weaponry, our standard VMS comes with a fire control application that can share data with battle management systems. The resolution of the radar is sufficient to direct the fire of tear gas projectors, automatic weapons, ATGMs, and loitering munitions if your organization has access to these. Moreover, regardless of whether your own organization has access to weapons, your VMS management station can be programmed to either automatically dial out emergency calls to law enforcement when intruders are detected, or to allow an operator to rapidly do so.

The Vigil radar system is hardy, precise, simple to use, economically efficient and environmentally-friendly.

It is the next word in civilian installation security.
