Katz: Yisrael Joins International Outcry Over Wazhegan Blockade In Enyama, Recognizes Independent Dairi State

Today marks the first time the Katz administration has publicly announced policies on the war in Enyama and its consequences, after over a year of official silence on the topic.
June 1st, 2021| By Binyomin Eisenberger (beisenberg@ryd.org) | 9:56am EDT

YERUSHALAYIM, YISRAEL — In his first public statement on the war in Enyama since taking office, President Katz, flanked by his Foreign Minister Ariel Goldblatt and Defense Minister Naftali Bauman, denounced the newly-announced military actions of Wazhegan towards the Enyaman conflict. "The encirclement of the Winivere Bay by a blockade of the Wazhegan Federal Navy and deployment of over 12,000 troops to occupy swathes of Norinnian territory currently under the control of an illegitimate Enyaman faction in the war," referring to the northern Democratic Coalition, "is outrageous. The Wazhegan continually pride themselves on self-autonomy and anti-imperialism, yet they illegally seize control of and garrison areas of northern Enyama and Norinnia without shame. Their open support for a brutal totalist faction linked with pariah regimes such as Jhengtseng and Elatia is as unfortunate as it is unsurprising." He added, "We insist that the Wazhegan live up to their self-proclaimed principles and withdraw their occupation and blockade of Norinnia and northern Enyama immediately before tens of thousands of people in the region suffer further."

Foreign Minister Goldblatt continued, saying: "Yisrael does not recognize the blockade and occupation of parts of Norinnia and northern Enyama by Wazhegan, and we will issue guidance to any Yisraeli citizens transiting through the area to exercise careful judgment. If any Yisraeli property or nationals are seized by the blockade or occupation forces, there will be an appropriate and proportional response by our government."

In another bombshell, Katz announced that Yisrael was recognizing the hours-old declaration of independence by ethnic Dairi peoples of northern Enyama, many of them of mixed Belisarian-Norumbian heritage and with a majority practicing some form of Christianity. The ethnic Dairis had been continually oppressed by various Enyaman governments, including under the former President Muratagi. The Dairi-majority Independent League, which controls approximately the northern fifth of the country, had been in a tense cease-fire with the northern pocket of the DemCo - Democratic Coalition - forces, who represent a faction of Kiso Pact-backed leftists increasingly dominated by vicious socialist totalists who seek to emulate the most oppressive and backwards regimes in places such as Jhengtseng and Elatia, notorious rogue states.

"We will provide necessary aid to the Norinnian Consulate," Katz stated, declining to answer questions from the press about whether that aid was strictly 'humanitarian' items such as food and medicine or whether it included military aid such as weapons, ammunition, and similar things. "Enyaman and Wazhegan forces occupying Ala Nova and other Norinnian territories must withdraw to sovereign Enyaman land and peaceably hand over these areas to proper Norinnian administration."

Analysts: Katz Administration Finally Provides Some Clarity On Enyama Policy

Joining Latium, Belfras, and Ghant, Yisrael has weighed in on the conflict publicly in a way unseen since the war began. About a year ago, liberal ex-security officials alleged clandestine Yisraeli operations alongside Belfras in Enyama to assist the Three-Colors Army, known more commonly as '3C'. Other than media leaks such as that, the official administration position has been that the Enyaman government is "in dispute." However, this morning's announcements officially put Yisrael on record. The kingdom officially recognizes the breakaway Dairi Norinnian Consulate, as its come to call itself, transitioning from the Independence League moniker, and views the DemCo factions as "illegimate," all but saying it views the 3C and Banno Shogunate forces as the "legitimate" forces.

Interestingly, President Katz and Minister Goldblatt referred to southern Niborea as "Enyama proper," implying that northern Niborea is not "Enyaman" at all, giving another linguistic and attitudinal switch to favor the Norinnians.

In the diplomatic and intelligence world, key players had already noted the swinging pendulum of Yisrael, Latium, and others to increasing informal assistance to the then-Independence League and 3C-linked factions like the Banno Shogunate. Sources say that while Yisrael and Latium were operating separately on these fronts, they 'complimented' each other's efforts, and that the Katz administration and the Pompilius consulship view the Norinnia-Banno angle as 'hedges' as 3C has seen its momentum slow after months of successful offensive operations, forcing the southern DemCo faction into a literal corner. The faltering of the DemCo forces has increased the power of Fujikawa Directorate ruler No Au, a self-styled Jheng-esque totalist who is widely viewed to have become progressively brutal as the conflict carries on, including incidents of her using her Jheng bodyguards to intimidate or do worse towards other DemCo officials. One intelligence official warned darkly that in the unlikely case that DemCo defeated 3C and Banno in the south, No Au would craft a chilling totalitarian regime with Jheng and Elatian influences that would make Muratagi's former New Frontier regime look like "child's play."

Surprising joint declaration from Divine Lord and Sovereign Prince during state visit

Image
Questros Palace, the main residence of the Sovereign Prince and first location visited by His Holiness

THESSALONA (Central Press) - After their arrival in the early hours of last Thursday, the Divine Lords, His Holiness Ho Jasaw Chan K’awiil and his wife Lady Kib Chel, were welcomed with honors by His Majesty the Sovereign Prince Nicholaus of Belfras and Her Highness Princess Beata of Callatis. Following the welcoming ceremony, both couples withdrew to Questros Palace where they held.

What was said during the lunch-meeting remains undisclosed, but shortly afterward orders were given to the organizers of the visit to cancel the afternoon’s events and call back journalists: both Monarchs had decided upon a press conference.

During the hour long conference, His Holiness and His Majesty publicly condemned the Winivere blockade, calling it an “ inacceptable infringement to International Maritime Laws, let alone the Common Congress own treaties.” and assuring that “it could not be left to stand, less it de-facto create a precedent with dramatic precedence over interstates relations.“

It is important to remember that both the Divine Kingdom and the Federation, in the past, went to war over the question of “Controlled Waters”. A conflict that ended with millions of victims and a peace agreement that laid the basics of what are now called the “EEZ”. Since then, both nations have seen eye to eye on maritime questions despite, or rather because, of their long-standing rivalry and reciprocal regime of economic sanctions.

Concluding the conference was the confirmation by both leaders that they will emit a call for an Extraordinary Session of the Common Congress, which they both agreed will be held in Thessalona. While the Sovereign Prince of Belfras presence to the Extraordinary Session is already expected, it is custom for the Host of a Common Congress’ session to also be its President, it remain unconfirmed wether or not His Holiness would do a second deplacement to Thessalona or if They shall send their official Congressman instead.

With the call officially sent to the Heads of Government of all eight other members of the Common Congress (Gristol-Serkonos, Kayahallpa, Mocapaha, Moxaney, Sante Reze, Tikal, Wazhegan, and Zacapican) by 17:00, the rest of His Holiness visit to Belfras is expected to resume as planned.

HISTORIC FIRST: K'uhul Ajaw visits Thessalona
Monarchs make call condemning Wazhegan and call for Common Congress meeting.

By Alexandros Zotsos, Norumbria Correspondent.
05/JUNE/2021

THESSALONA, BELFRAS —

His Holiness Ho Jasaw Chan K'aawiil and his wife, the Lady Kib Chel arrived early in the morning to the honors of the His Majesty the Sovereign Prince Nicholaus' personal reception at the airport and the full-dress Band of the Royal Guard. A warm welcome by the Sovereign Prince to the K'uhul Ajaw has been considered as a large gesture toward the warming of relations between two nations that have had one of the roughest histories, with wars between the countries ending millions of lives and laying the foundations of a number of internationally recognised treaties.

The meeting between the national leaders largely took place today at Questros Palace, which was rather symbolically flying the Mutulese Flag in conjunction with the Belfrasian stars as another show of solidarity and growing friendship. However following lunch both monarchs cancelled the afternoons events and recalled journalists for an urgent press conference. The Attia Gardens of Questros Palace, named after the fifth warden of the gardens who was loved by her peers, was the place of the conference as the Thessalonan summer and cool Kayamucan wind gave a relaxing atmosphere to what was ultimately a terse and, bizzare for some, united front shown by two nations often thought as bitter enemies.

These bitter enemies treated eachother as friends as they gave their conference, beginning with a joint statement that condemned the Winivere blockade by Wazhegan, which has caused both monarchs to call for an Extraordinary Session of the Common Congress to discuss in full and to settle the matter swiftly. The blockade itself was a precursor for the Wazhegan invasion of Enyama which has caused different reactions from both monarchs, was only briefly mentioned stating that it was 'regretful' that the nation had opted for their course of action without authorisation from the Common Congress, with the Sovereign Prince stating that the matter would be dicussed further at the session.

The focus of the announcement on the blockade is unsurprising to most historians. The second war between the two nations caused high death tolls and was only resolved when both nations agreed on the basics of the modern Exclusive Economic Zone, or EEZ. When the Common Congress will meet has yet to be confirmed, but both monarchs have agreed that it will take place in Thessalona with question marks hanging over whether or not His Holiness would visit the nation to attend personally, although when the question was asked the Sovereign Prince announced that the K'uhul Ajaw was welcome to visit Thessalona at their leisure going forward.

Wazhegan Blockade, Norinnian Recognition, and Foreign Roundup
Martis, Castellum ab Alba
By: Aurelius Sabidius (@AurSabidius)

Castellum: Moments ago, the Foreign Bureau announced that the Emperor has officially recognized the independence of the newly established Sovereign Consulate of Norinnia, in a dramatic shift from previous policy in the Enyaman conflict. Prior to the recognition of Norinnia, Latin involvement in the civil war was minimal, and largely focused at providing logistical support for Belfrasian allies and forces of the Enyaman Armed Forces. However, with this latest shit, Foreign Praetor Flavius Aemilius indicated that this is anything but a surprise and has “been in the works for months.” Aemilius would not divulge whether the shift would lead to Latin boots on the ground in Enyama. Aemilius explained that the Emperor spoke with Norinnian Consul Basho Tagron via video conference moments before the announcement. The conversation was “exceedingly productive,” according to the Foreign Bureau, with the Emperor offering humanitarian aid, logistical support, and diplomatic support. It was also said that Norinnian inclusion in both the Forum of Nations and Common Congress are a major priority for the Emperor.

Master of Officers Florian Claudius also spoke regarding news of the Norinnian declaration and Wazhenaby blockade of Winivere Bay, which is now the only means of sea access for the fledgling Norinnian state. “It’s utterly objectionable,” Claudius said, “and not something the Emperor will recognize or tolerate. The people of Norinnia live and die through this opening to the wider world. No, this blockade and intervention are more in line with an invasion than a peacekeeping force. The Emperor and the Latin people stand with Norinnia and the Dari people in their struggle for their homeland.”

News of the blockade has also reached the halls of the Senate, where it was quickly denounced by Consul Alexander Pompilius and Senate leadership. Pompilius announced that an emergency resolution will reach the Senate floor tomorrow to officially renounce the blockade, the nation of Wazhegan. However not all voices in the Senate support the Emperor’s recent moves. Senate Minority Leader Felix Procilius has gone on record objecting to the recognition of Norinnia, arguing that recognition of a seperatist-type state goes against long standing state policy and sets “a terrible precedent.”

Elsewhere, the initial results of the Vardanan elections have been released, and hastily taken to recounts in 3 provinces, including all elections taking place in Bayazet. The recounts in Bayazet have seen the harshest reaction from the populace, with protestors gathering outside both the governor’s mansion and the Directory’s Tigranaberd Palace. Thus far, the only directory results that have been certified are Anastas Barkhudar retaining his seat in Nakorzan, and Lusine Argutian retaining her seat in Mysia. It is unclear when the recount will be complete, or when the national elections will conclude.

Fox: Wazhegan blockade is an unnecessary escalation.
Chancellor Kaniehtí:io Fox joins the growing list of nations condemning the recent blockade by the Wazhegan Federal Navy.
June 5th, 2021 | Gemma Brewster, GSBC News

PONTIAC-BERNADOTTE, GRISTOL-SERKONOS - Chancellor Fox joins a growing list of nations condemning the Wazhegan government for their recent blockade of the Winivere Bay. The Chancellor denounced the blockade, calling it "an unnecessary escalation to the ongoing war." Earlier this week, the Wazhegan Federal Navy blockaded all traffic entering Winivere Bay, causing significant roadblocks to foreign aid. Speaking to the Wazhenaby Congress, Defense Commissioner Ċedric Kyser detailed its mandate and overall goals of the deployment. Wazhenaby troops, Kyser mentioned, "will serve in humanitarian, peacekeeping and offensive capabilities" in northern Enyama.

The Royal Gristo-Serkonan Armed Forces, according Defence Minister Jonathan Nilsson will remain in heightened alert. State Affairs Minister Astrid Giroux directed the Gristo-Serkonan Embassy in Moienrout to send a diplomatic missive expressing its outrage to the decision made by the Wazhenaby Congress. According to senior officials in the Fox government, the Chancellor, along with senior government and military officials is expected to depart for Thessalona to attend the Extraordinary Session of the Common Congress.

Approaching its third year, the Civil War in Enyama has spilled over to neighbouring countries. The previous Social Democratic government of Stuart Lewis briefly supported Muratagi Eijoro's government in Enyama, providing logistics as well as materiel aid to the government. The support ended when the Lewis government was defeated in the subsequent elections with current Progressive Conservatives sweeping into majority government status.

Under Chancellor Kaniehtí:io Fox's leadership, the support for the war pivoted from Muratagi Eijoro's New Frontier government, shifting towards the Belfrasian-supported Three Colours Army mid-November.

However, documents obtained by GSBC News from the Office of State Affairs indicate that the Fox government may recognize an Independent Dairi State. It is unknown how their current commitments with the Three Colors Army would be affected. Questioned by this development, Chancellor Fox did not confirm the report, maintaining: "Our commitments with the Three Colors Army will remain unchanged. The government is currently observing other nations as to how they will recognize an Independent Dairi State." The Chancellor calls the Wazhenaby naval blockade a move to suppress freedom of navigation in the Winivere Bay.

In addition to providing logistics and materiel support for the Three Colors Army, the Fox government has also pledged to deploy forces in the region. The military deployment however has been delayed due to the X-704 Incident with the Wazheganon. The conclusion to the X-704 Incident, despite being considered a success for recovery of the pilots and to the government's opinion, is privately seen as an embarrassment. Then-Ministers Ewald Travis and Stuart Loughton were being sacked from the State Affairs and Norumbian Region, and the Defence portfolios respectively.

The naval skirmish last March between the Royal Gristo-Serkonan Navy and the Wazhegan Federal Navy has led to two RGSN frigates badly damaged and 10 RGSN casualties. The Wazhegan Federal Navy has not provided a statement on materiel and personnel losses in the skirmish.

Gemma Brewster is senior defence writer for GSBC News, based in Pontiac-Bernadotte. She has covered the Gristo-Serkonan military and foreign policy from the Parliament for over a decade. Among other assignments, he spent a total of 15 months on the ground covering the Odawa Frontier Conflict for the Royal Gristo-Serkonan Press. The SAPA INKA's Imperial Government condemns establishment of breakaway Dairi state

MAYUNRISPAMPA, KAYAHALLPA: The Foreign Affairs Office of the Imperial Government released a brief statement today expressing its disapproval of the declaration of independence from the so-called Sovereign Consulate of Norinnia, a region of Enyama populated by a latin1 group known as the Dairi. While the declaration had been expected for some time, the Wazhenaby intervention greatly accelerated the «Independence Process» and secession was hastily declared in an urgent bid for international sympathy. Enyama at large has seen the complete disintegration of its government into various rival factions, with other countries each intervening on the side of different groupings to defend their own strategic and ideological interests. The Imperial Government has not engaged in the area militarily but worked tirelessly to salvage Kayahallpan assets and evacuate Kayaruna citizens from the region when the conflict broke out. A trickle of humanitarian aid has since been sent to the country to relieve degrading conditions. Rumors of alleged Kayahallpan support to militant factions in the Enyama conflict have not been confirmed by the Ministry of Information.

«The Imperial Government raises grave concern over the secessionist declaration produced by the Dairi leaders in northern Enyama. A complete end to the state of unrest in west Norumbia requires a return to national cohesion for the entire Enyaman nation, which is not in the awqa2 leadership's interests. The Empire of the New Kayamucha will not support the Secessionists' bid to join the Forum of Nations.»

The Imperial Government has not commented on the Wazhenaby blockade of the Winivere coast, which may largely cut off the nascent Dairi secessionist state from the rest of the world.

It is currently unknown who will represent Kayahallpa at the CU's upcoming Extraordinary Session, called by the Mutul and Belfras in an attempt to stop the Wazhenaby blockade. A trustworthy source has told the Kayamuchanchik that the 95-year old TUPAQ YUPANKI III, Gracious and Noble, Emperor of the Kayaruna who has attended many a meeting in the organization, will not be present. He is presumed to be attending personal matters at the Royal Palace Complex in Tupawasi. If he does not come to Thessalona, he will likely be represented by a close family member, possibly one of his many sons.

Velezio Abellán becomes persona non grata after implications in Delfina Montecalvo's murder

Image

VILLA ROMERA, Gran Aligonia — Unsettling rumors regarding the ongoing investigation into the murder of the Chancellor's wife Delfina Montecalvo late last year have been confirmed by the Xendarmeria today in what many are calling a bombshell revelation. Hadrian del Villar, current Director-General, insinuated in a press conference today that the trail of bullet casings from the crime scene are linked to a weapons shipment delivered by private mercenaries in autumn of last year; a corresponding FIGA investigation linked the shipping containers containing said weaponry both anecdotally and financially to Velezio Abellán, the brother of the abdicated prince Veremundo, who had long voiced his opposition to the transition away from Monarchy. Authorities on the archipelago are now offering a Ƒ1,000,000 reward for information linking to Velezio's whereabouts. Though he was last spotted in Garza at the court of his wife, Constance, in March, Velezio has since 'vanished', according to authorities. A prominent real estate magnate, the Xendarmeria allegedly began a no-knock search of all of his properties on the Archipelago last week, only to discover all of them either emptied or with their maintenance staff indicating no knowledge of a recent visit from the former Noble.

Velezio's implication in the growing pseudo-monarchist backlash came as a surprise to many who saw the Prince's daughter Catalia as the primary mouthpiece of restorative sentiment regarding the Archipelago. Though wed to Alaryk Roan-Haefeld and living in South Ottonia for three years, she had notably become impassioned about her own right to be given a chance to lead the nation, if her father and brother both refused. Not anywhere near as many eyes converged on Velezio, who'd cultivated a reputation for gravitating towards financial over political obligations his entire life. Nevertheless, Velezio's implications in the raid have apparently been vetted by legal and financial experts that confirmed the delivery of weapons, including the 6.5mm ammunition casings found at the site of the murder, leave a definite paper trail to several shell companies that Velezio has a majority stake in. Investigators have currently assumed that the murder of Delfina was collateral damage as part of an attempt on the Chancellor's life.

Chancellor Montecalvo expressed sorrow and disappointment at the revelation while indicating that he had been informed of the likely result of the investigation several weeks before its public announcement. The MWU and AAFT have both seized the opportunity to further criticize the decadence of the Abelláns, showing somewhat unexpected solidarity for Montecalvo and the ruling LNR. Leader of the Migrant Worker's Union Olaya Cadavid notably expressed support for the 'swift dispersal of justice against regressive forces', a stance that broke from the earlier law-enforcement-skeptical party line. Leuter Sion of the AAFT imagined that Velezio would have likely tried to kill anyone who'd been elected, and expressed sympathy for Montecalvo's plight, similarly indicating a desire for justice. More problematic remain the issue of the Abellán family's broader marital connections; the Aligonian government sent a formal inquiry today to both the South Ottonian and Garzan governments as to their extant knowledge of Velezio's plot.

Security at both the Villa of Romera and the Grand Ministry has increased threefold since the announcement, bolstering an already-increased garrison; the Xendarmeria and Coastal Defense have both been again authorized to carry lethal weapons off-duty, the first imposition of such an order since the end of the Abdication Crisis.

Garza Gazette
2021

Prime Minister Marco Roman calls Infante Velezio Abellan allegations “unsubstantiated nonsense”

Roman refers to investigation as a “political hit job”

(Ciudad Garza, Garza)- Explosive rumors have emerged accusing Infante Belezio Abellan, younger brother of the disgraced former Prince Veremundo of Aligonia of arms trafficking and murder in Aligonia. Director-General Hadrian del Villar announced during a press conference that bullet casing found at the crime scene are linked to a weapons shipment that was delivered by private mercenaries late last year, supposedly involving Infante Velezio. Authorities are now offering a reward for information regarding the Infante’s whereabouts.

The Garzan government is directly implicated in the investigation due to the Infante’s extensive financial and real estate assets in Garza. Velezio, a Prince of Aligonia by birth, became an Infante of Garza by virtue of his marriage to Infanta Constance, the 2nd daughter and 3rd child of King John VII of Garza and Princess Imperial Elizabeth of Ghant, commonly known as “Bessie.” Constance’s older siblings are the Infanta Granda Alexandra, Queen Consort of Merovia, and King William II of Garza. Constance has, since the disposition of the monarchy, maintained a court-in-exile at the Royal Palace of Talladega, which was given to Constance by her brother the king.

Infante Velezio was last seen at Talladega, before “disappearing,” according to Aligonian authorities. When reached for comment, both the royal family and the estate of Infanta Constance declined to comment. Indeed, the activities of Infanta Constance have largely been kept private, though there has been widespread speculation that she has been conspiring to claim the throne of Aligonia on behalf of her husband. This is in light of the fact that Prince Veremundo abdicated the throne, which many in Garza have assumed extends to his descendants, including his daughter Catalia. The former princess is living in exile in South Ottonia, and though she has indicated that she considers herself the rightful claimant to the throne, Infanta Constance and the Garzan Royal Family have thus far declined to recognize or support her claim.

The Infanta’s extended family includes many of the ruling families of Belisaria and Ghant, the latter of which has been mired in scandals for decades. Prince Richard, Constance’s cousin and the younger brother of the late Emperor John IV of Ghant, was implicated in human trafficking, drug and gun smuggling in northern Belisaria, while his brother Albert has been linked to mercenary activity and illegal arms dealing. The Ghantish government has thus far refuted any accusations that it is complacent in the movement of weapons and men into Gran Aligonia.

After the news broke, Prime Minister Marco Roman organized a live press conference in order to address the myriad allegations against Infante Velezio. Roman, already having a reputation for being blunt and impassioned, did not mince words. “Today I’ve been made aware of plots and schemes supposedly originating from here in Garza against Infante Velezio. Let me get started by saying this, that Infante Velezio is an outstanding member of our Royal Family. His work in the community, for charities and the way he carries himself on a day-to-day basis is something we’re very pleased with. I would call him an asset to Garza and a welcomed addition to our royal family. We are a nation and a people who take pride in and celebrate faith, family and honor, and Infante Velezio exemplifies all of those qualities.

“Yes, I received an inquiry as to the Infante’s whereabouts from the so called government of Gran Aligonia. These are allegations that we take very seriously, and naturally I was skeptical when they reached my desk. I knew the evidence would be lacking, and at best it was circumstantial. The Aligonians seem convinced that we’re the source of a violent plot to overthrow the government and restore the monarchy by violence and terrorism.

“As you all might imagine, I find this laughable, because this is the same Aligonian government that was established on violence and terrorism. A government that was established upon a foundation of chasing the royal family out of the country with torches and pitchforks, and threatening women and children with nooses and chopping blocks. It took all of my restraint to not act then and there in the interest of protecting Infanta Constance and her family from the insurrectionist mobs, but once her and her family were safe here in Garza, I relented in the interest of peace.

“I want to make something very clear. I have little patience for these would-be authorities in Gran Aligonia, who seem so eager to prosecute the nations of Belisaria for honoring the rule of law. Is anyone really surprised that they’re going after Infante Velezio? I’m not in the slightest. Make no mistake, this is nothing more than a political hit job, and even if I knew where the Infante was, I wouldn’t tell these authorities in Gran Aligonia. For if I did, them I’m sure daggers in the dark wouldn’t be too far behind.”

Security at both the Royal Palace of Garza and Talladega Palace have been increased severalfold in the past twenty-four hours, and the national guard mobilized in order to respond to any threat against the royal family, Infanta Constance or her family. The heightened sense of security has many people on-edge, including those in coastal cities that are not far from Gran Aligonia. Many observers are worried about an escalation of conflict between Garza and Aligonia over the issue of Infante Velezio and possibly Infanta Constance.

More details will be released as they become available.[size]

Foreign Ministry Announces 'Workable Structure' To Resolve Garza-GA Spat If Aligonian Royal Velezio Abellán Is "Found"

In response to a new development in the murder of Delfina Montecalvo, wife of the Gran Aligonian chancellor, and related allegations of ultra-royalist plots to overthrow the Aligonian government, the Katz administration has proposed a solution to resolve the Garza-GA spat.
June 12th, 2021| By Binyomin Eisenberger (beisenberg@ryd.org) | 12:33pm EDT

YERUSHALAYIM, YISRAEL — In a surprise development, the Katz Foreign Ministry announced that Foreign Minister Ariel Goldblatt had negotiated a tentative 'workable structure' to resolve the recent Garza-Gran Aligonia spat. At a press conference this afternoon, Minister Goldblatt said that, "[d]ue to the ongoing tensions between two Yisraeli allies, President [Yitzchok] Katz offered to mediate the situation between the parties. After several days of phone calls and in-person meetings, we have drafted a workable structure to calmly resolve the differences between the Aligonian and Garzan governments without further escalation. If, that is, [Garzan and Aligonian royal] Velezio Abellán is found and his whereabouts are made public."

Pressed by Avi Berman of the Times of Yisrael on what that structure might be, Goldblatt answered: "[Gran Aligonian] Chancellor [Artus] Montecalvo and [Garzan] Prime Minister [Marco] Roman have both told me that should Abellan present himself, both governments are open to a meeting on Garzan soil, with questions supplied by Aligonian investigators asked of Prince Abellan by Yisraeli officials, with the prince having legal counsel present with him." Goldblatt declined to answer any more questions.

Garza-GA Spat Latest In Years-Long Saga Of Gran Aligonian Crisis

The diplomatic row between Garza and Gran Aligonia is simply the latest twist in a nearly-two-year-long running crisis surrounding the GA isles, geopolitical experts say. Professor Ephraim Gabay, a scholar of Periclean political history and current geopolitics who was the co-author of a groundbreaking March 2020 report on the politics in Gran Aligonia amid the revolution, noted that "these events are in a linear growth. These far-right plots and geopolitical turbulence are due directly to the anti-monarchy protests of fall 2019 and Leuter Sion's agitations," adding that "I expect Gran Aligonia to remain unstable in its domestic politics and geopolitics for some time."

After the abdication of Prince Veremundo in December 2019 and the transition to the "United Republic," Leuter Sion, the instigator of the anti-monarchy riots, took power and initiated a regime many viewed as xenophobic, isolationist, and purposefully antagonistic towards the Western Monarchies. Katz and Sion had a war of words just before the release of Professor Gabay's report, and the volatile GA leader also initiated diplomatic scuffles with Latium, Lihnidos, and others.

"There is good measure for the Garzans to be gritting their teeth," added Noah Teller, a historian of the West Periclean. "[Leuter] Sion encouraged and permitted widespread rioting and street violence, directed against the Abellans in particular. If Velezio [Abellan] fled home, no one would blame him."

"Still," he continued, "Sion was defeated in an election by Montecalvo, and the GA has been under steadier leadership since. The revolution is dead. Instead, we may see a royalist counterrevolution being prepped by other interested parties. The Aligonians have highlighted accusations against Velezio. Another outspoken claimant is Catalia Abellan, though she's been quiet as of late in South Ottonia."

Forces of the Three Colors on standby near Yokoyoto, June 2021

Three Colors to begin organizing civilian government in bid for greater legitimacy

IWAWARA, THREE COLORS TERRITORY - The Strategic Defense Council, headed by Supreme Commander Ashikaga Shinzo, announced on the waning hours of the 14th of June that it would be entering the first stages of setting up a civilian government structure within their territory in order to "better administer the region and secure civilian legitimacy". This announcement comes after what has been a contentious year for the Three Colors Army; though the war against the so-called Fujikawa Directorate has progressed steadily since the successful attack on No Au late last year, other complications in the internal political situation of anticommunist Enyama have led the SDC to reflect on their current position in the war. Throughout the month of May, seven generals and several hundred lower-ranked officers defected to the forces of the Banno Shogunate. Though Banno retains steady if cool relations with the Three Colors, being a former general himself that is on a first-name basis with many military men in Enyama, his diplomatic advances over the Three Colors have not gone unnoticed. The alliance between the Banno Shogunate and the Ngāti Onekawa-Nukanoa caused particular concerns within the SDC; despite the fact that foreign powers such as Latium, Yisrael, and Belfras have provided varying levels of support to the Three Colors since the beginning of the war, none have yet sent substantial forces to join the Three Colors on the ground in Enyama, unlike the Onekawans with Banno, or the Union and Wahzenaby with the Coalition.

Ashikaga stated that he expects the civilian government of the Three Colors to become 'fully functional' by the end of the month, though specifics on its organizational structure and law remain to be determined. It's expected that the current stratocratic structure of the Three Colors will not totally revert back to a standard military under civilian control, with the new government instead serving as a fulcrum against the extant stratocracy by introducing civilian power. No elections of any sort have yet been announced to the international community or the public, however, ground soldiers of the Three Colors asked about a potential election seemed intentionally elusive with their answers, likely under orders.

The politicization of the Three Colors comes only weeks after a developing Wahzenaby intervention in the north of Enyama caused the separatist Independence League to secede from Enyama as the Sovereign Consulate of Norinnia. Though Latium, Yisrael, and others have expressed their support for the new polity, it remains broadly unrecognized across the international community, either due to ideological differences, or ethnic differences. General Ashikaga, for example, insinuated that the Norinnians "are blaming the actions of Muratagi on the actions of the Enyaman people, and as this war demonstrates, those two things couldn't be more different." The Three Colors has remained adamant in the idea of a united multiethnic Enyaman identity despite the rise of ethnonationalist forces in Enyama including the Norinnians and the Tsurushimese-centric Banno Shogunate.

The SDC has reportedly entered into backchannel diplomatic talks with several of its declared and undeclared allies in the come-up to the creation of the civilian government. Ashikaga notably 'expressed disappointment' in Latium and Yisrael's decisions to recognize the Norinnians, noting that such a push for independence "could cause a cascade that could further destroy the very fabric of the Enyaman nation". The upcoming Common Congress meeting regarding the Wahzenaby blockade has also prompted most factions, including the Three Colors, to vie for a seat at the negotiating table; many in the SDC reportedly hope that the Common Congress could be one of the better places to secure broad international legitimacy in the absence of the Forum of Nations; an aide from the general's quarters at Iwawara also confirmed early today that generals Ashikaga and Yanishi had also set up an 'impromtu' video conference with Moxan officials in the leadup to the Congress convention.

There is No God Higher Than Truth

Wazhenaby Blockade Proves Strength of Socialist Fraternity As Civil War Deepens

Ala Nova - Enyama The Foreign Ministry released a statement condemning the announcement of secession by the Dairi ethno-separatist group known as the “Consulate of Norinnia” today as “fundamentally antithetical to the freedom and prosperity of the Enyaman peoples” and “the first step on the inevitable path to greater sectarian conflict”. The statement also highlights Operation Wildcat, the decision by the Wazhenaby government to enact a military blockade in the western portion of the Winivere Bay, as vital for the eventual stabilization of Enyama “quickly and along egalitarian lines”. This comes just weeks after reports that numerous Three Colors warlords have defected to rival invictist terror group Banno Shogunate. Reactions to the blockade have been mixed and have fallen largely along ideological lines, and as the situation on the ground in Enyama continues to deteriorate, some have begun to wonder if the current Unionite commitment will be enough.

In the city of Ala Nova, life goes on much as it did before the war. Despite being within spitting distance of the front, the Democratic Coalition has afforded some level of normalcy to the citizens there. One of the largest and busiest ports in Enyama, the city also represents the crown jewel of the Dairi cultural identity. So much so that even now, having ripped their pound of flesh from the Enyaman body, the invictist rats have declared their intent to cannibalize its corpse. ‘To the sea!” they cry with no regard for the loyal Enyaman peoples in their wake, who experts say they eagerly await the opportunity to “cleanse”.

As the situation has continued to deteriorate in Enyama, the legitimate government of that country has sought aid abroad. One such provider has been Wazheganon who, in the interests of safeguarding the fledgling proletarian democracy built by that government, has sent ships into the Winivere Bay for the purposes of enacting a military blockade. This drew the immediate ire of “Consulate of Norinnia”, who in response declared the independence of the northern third of the nation. A mixture of Wazhenaby boots and international leftist aid have kept things stable in the city, preventing the worsening of conditions for citizens there and negotiating an uneasy truce between the local Democratic Coalition government and the separatists.

Further complicating the precarious situation in Enyama is news that seven high ranking warlords within the Three Colors terror group: Oraka Kaabo, Imari Tselo, Momoi Shoda, Kanai Gad, Shizei Ama, Terai Temuramaro and Niyolo Sheshagi, have defected to the organization’s rival in the Banno Shogunate. Banno himself, the charismatic general and former hatchetman for the invictist Muratagi, has been seen as a bit player in the civil war thus far, owing to his relative lack of support from abroad and his perceived lack of an overarching national plan. However, this diplomatic coup renders any such beliefs ridiculous as the self-proclaimed monarch seems poised to cause greater concern for Three Colors forces as time goes on.

However, despite these gains, the Banno Shogunate remains sandwiched between the Three Colors Army and the Democratic Coalition. So far, conflict between the sides has been limited to the kind of systemic, low intensity fighting endemic to nations in similar states of turmoil. But as the war winds on, experts have become sceptical of an end in sight, and worried that the fighting may spill over into wholesale slaughter. In the north, Wazhenaby troops help keep the peace in the Shakohidaka Pocket in the aftermath of the Consulate’s declaration and multiple reported cases of provocation by fifth columnist stay behinds, while Democratic Coalition forces in the south under the command of Comrade No Au have repeatedly held the line against Three Colors attacks, aided by their Unionite and Elatian allies. The struggle for the emancipation of the proletariat in wartorn Enyama remains strong, with the peoples there committed robustly to the class struggle against the Enyaman comprador-bourgeoisie and the depraved jackals that bankroll them. Throughout the struggle the Union has stood by its ally, but with the announcement of the blockade and the escalation of tensions there, great scores of people have begun to ask: is the Union doing enough?

Relations between Wazheganon and the Union have always been tense, owing to the fundamental and often irreconcilable ideological difference between their governing ideologies. In Wazheganon, anarchism, and in the Union, communism. These differences manifest even in their respective roles in the Enyaman civil war, with Wazhenaby material support falling most heavily upon their ideological favored allies in the Shakohidaka Pocket, the informal name for the Democratic Coalition’s forces in the north of the country. Critics of the rogue anarchist state have called into question their commitment to establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat, citing Wazhenaby reluctance to pursue direct repression of bourgeois threats in DemCo occupied territories.

Despite this, Supreme Chairman Songsten Khan delivered a thunderous commendation of the blockade, calling its enforcement “a just and necessary solution to a long term, existential problem” and compared ending the flow of weapons and resources to separatists to “bandaging a bleeding wound”. In a televised speech, Comrade Khan went so far as to call for a joint Elatian and Unionite blockade of the Northern Makria Ocean in order to “thoroughly diminish the fighting capacity of the Three Colors terrorists”. When asked whether the Unionite government would consider the escalation of Red Guards operations in the region beyond a peacekeeping role, the Supreme Chairman had this to say:

“Our Red Guards can only go where they are wanted. The ultimate decision falls to the legitimate DemCo government, and thus the people, of Enyama.”

As things seemingly continue to spiral in the wartorn Norumbrian nation, it becomes increasingly clear that a confrontation between international capital and the international proletariat will come to a head in Enyama. The Western Monarchies, unwilling or unable to allow the threat of the worker’s emancipation, shift their loyalties evermore in pursuit of a faction, any faction, that can stem its tide. Only time will tell who will succeed.

Upsets in Bayazet, Kajaran place parties in uncharted waters
Leonopolis, Perateia
By: Aurelius Sabidius (@AurSabidius)

Image
Arman Boghossian (above) is set to return to his old seat as Director of Bayazet for the first time since 1996.

Leonopolis: After a week of recounts, upon recounts, and a plethora of protests, the 2021 Vardanan directorial elections have come to an official close…almost. On election night, two directorial elections were called in Mysia and Nakorzan. Both provincial elections saw incumbents Lusine Argutian (R) and Anastas Barkhudar (R) retain their seats in near landslide victories, at 62% and 67% of the vote respectively.

Despite these overwhelming victories, Barkhudar and his Radical Party were widely expected to easily retain both seats. The same cannot be said for the election in Kajaran, where longtime Hvrart member, and Radical Party candidate Aspar Dzebysat was trailing in nearly all polling leading up to the election. Likewise, incumbent Director for Bayazet Tigran Saroyan was widely expected to come up short in his bid to retain his seat in the Bayazet special election.

Both Bayazet and Kajaran seats were thrust into multiple recounts. In Bayazet, challenger and “Father of the Republic” Arman Boghossian rushed to an early lead though barely failed to earn at least 50% of the vote, thus forcing a runoff. Boghossian, in his return from retirement, joined with the upstart, and new left party, 11 July Club, who have proved to be the largest thorn in Barkhudar long reign as First Secretary. Boghossian himself a sharp critic, has compared Barkhudar to former national leaders ranging from Basileus Stepan IV, who was the nation’s last monarch, to David Sargsyan and leaders of the ill-fated early first republic. In turn, however, Barkhudar and his allies have often resorted to referring to Boghossian as out of touch and a relic tied to the “terrible reign” of Dictator Samuel Najaryan – Boghossian’s own late father-in-law.

Between elections, and due to the uncertainty that followed the cancelled run off of last year’s regularly scheduled election, protests again were a common fixture in the capital city of Hrazdan. Such protests regularly disrupted business in Hrazdan, including meetings of the National Convention and forcing meetings of the Directory to be held in neighboring cities. Indeed, residents of nearby Perateian border regions saw a massing of troops and local auxiliaries at the border to prevent any Vardanan domestic disturbances from spilling over into the Latin diocese.

However, and perhaps unexpectedly, Boghossian proved victorious in the end, returning to the Directory representing the province of Bayazet for the first time since 1996. In the runoff race against Saroyan, Boghossian earned a monstrous 68% of the vote – the single largest electoral victory in Vardanan history. A long road to certification of Boghossian’s victory remains, as the provincial legislature is overwhelmingly Radical in composition and its governor is none other than Kevork Barkhudar – younger brother of First Secretary Anastas Barkhudar. The Governor himself has even hinted that he may call for an audit of last week’s election to check for any irregularities.

With all of the commotion in Bayazet, the outcome of the Kajaran election was overshadowed, though arguably more important in how it would shape the fate of the Vardanan government. While Bayazet proved to be a pivotal victory for the 11 July Club as it is Vardana’s largest and most populous province, Aspar Dzebysat’s victory for the Radical Party enabled First Secretary Barkhudar to retain his position and power for a record eleventh straight year, in what has become the longest tenure of any Vardanan leader since that of Paramount Leader Najaryan’s twenty-seven and a half year reign.

52 Dead, 76 Injured In Aftermath Of Deadly Riot, Mass Escape Attempt From Asdarin Maximum-Security Prison

Forces from the Ministry of Justice had re-secured control over the penitentiary hours after the what appears to be a coordinated effort to take over the facility, engineer a mass escape.
July 5th, 2021| By Binyomin Eisenberger (beisenberg@ryd.org) | 5:09pm EDT

YERUSHALAYIM, YISRAEL — The Ministry of Justice announced that it had defeated a coordinated Christian terrorist plot to take over the Asdarin royal prison and allow a mass escape of its inmates, many of whom are hardened convicts found guilt of Christian terrorism, murder, and mass political violence in the last decade. Around 9am this morning, prison gangs affiliated with terrorist groups such as the Christian Defense League and the Free Yarden Valley Catholic Front sparked a prison riot. Officials from the Royal Prison Service, an arm of the Ministry of Justice that oversees Yisrael's prison system, were taken by surprise by the breathe and complexity of the plot, which included members of the terrorist organizations on the outside.

Explosives, weapons, and other implements of violence were smuggled or created within the facility's walls, officials noted. Many of the radical Christian adherents had been planning for months for a mass breakout, and when the riot erupted, many terrorist convicts attempted to blow a hole in the wall near a less-watched area of the facility. Armed gunmen on the outside assaulted the prison's main gateway, causing further chaos and a delayed response. In the end, it was shoddy construction and faulty wire work that caused the explosives to become duds, frustrating the prisoners' plan.

After about two hours, reinforced by rapid-reaction special weapons teams from the Ministry of Justice and local police, the prison was fully resecured and the prisoners put in lock-down.

Warden: Asdarin Prison 'A Simmering Cesspool'

Eli Zamar, the warden of the prison, called the defeated plot "innovative and stunning in its execution" in a press conference held hours later outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice in the Government District, Yerushalayim. Justice Minister David Roth was in attendance.

The prison was "a simmering cesspool," the warden warned, adding, "Stagnant funding and a lax sense of overconfidence hampered our ability to react quickly to this attack. We must do better." He revealed that his office had received intelligence dispatches from the Christian Affairs Department of the Shomrim just minutes before the riot erupted, and that his staff had "no time" to analyze the threat alert before the coordinated attack began.

Asdarin Prison, the country's highest maximum-security facility, is located in a secluded part of the Yehudi Mountains near the Sydalon border. Besides housing some of the worst and violent criminals in the entire nation, it also has a dedicated detention wing specifically for Christian terrorist convicts. This sub-population numbered 456 individuals before the riot, and had adherents to a number of terrorist organizations such as the aforementioned Christian Defense League (the most prominent), the Free Yarden Valley Catholic Front, and the Pan-Sydalene Liberation Army. The Royal Prison Service announced that over thirty Christian terrorist convicts had died during the escape attempt and riot, and excluded several fatalities from allies who launched an attack on the outside against the main gate.

Changing Nature Of Terrorism In Yisrael Since Late Feldman-Era

In a way, the failed Asdarin prison plot is the most serious activity since the last Christian terrorist attack in May 2018. The latest round of Christian violence, the so-called "Fourth Crusade," emerged in the aftermath of the 2011 Yericho riots and the 2012 forced-dissolution of the Yisraeli Christian Association political party for its role in the Yericho riots. Between 2011 and 2018, there were over 1,342 Yisraeli deaths due to the various terrorist attacks and organized violence.

Since May 2018, however, there had been no further successful attacks, and the Shomrim and YeMep had foiled dozens of attempts in the years since. Christian terrorist networks had been increasingly infiltrated and dismantled, and their organizations have grown increasingly weak.

In return, as the threat of Christian terrorism receded, it's been replaced in the Hezekian era by radical left-wing terrorism and political violence, chiefly the Liberal Democratic Front of Yisrael. 63 Yisraelis have been killed in three LDF attacks, all of whom occurring in early-mid 2020. The YeMep accused the LDF of being behind a "false flag" operation in the kidnapping and disappearance of Crown critics Issac Werner and Noah Abramowitz in October 2020 amid the Onekawan Affair, who remain missing to this day. The alleged LDF plot caused tremendous embarrassment for the Royal Household. Critics of King Hezekiah III and his reign view the October 2020 disappearances as part of an hastily-conceived anti-royalist purge that was called off due to the outcry by the Yisraeli public and from the international community. Regardless, left-wing political violence is the new terrorism the country faces, though fatalities and attacks have been a mere fraction of what they were in the 1970s or the 2010s, heralding perhaps a shift in the public support away from political violence as well as a more successful effort by the Yisraeli security forces to head off attacks.

As for the prison attack, a spokesman for the Presidential Palace said that President Katz "will urge Knesset without delay to approve emergency funding to boost security and correctional officer numbers to ensure this never happens again."

Binyomin Eisenberger reported from Yerushalayim, Yisrael. None of these organizations are associated with the RYD, and all opinions and personal views in the article do not reflect the viewpoints of the RYD or their employees.

ORDO FRONT CELL ELINIMINATED IN OMOMU

Military officials have confirmed that a series of explosions in the Gebaya neighbourhood of the city of Omomu yesterday was the latest in a series of crackdowns on the Ordosocialist Front of Kembesa. Colonel Anidirē Isitīvenisi, commander of the 11th Sikawiti Fusiliers, confirmed today that forces from the Elect Army and the Elect Guard coordinated to uncover and eliminate a cell of the Ordo Front with swift and decisive action.

The operation was conducted swiftly and efficiently. We received intelligence from the Elect Guard office of the location and number of terrorists. That intelligence was reconfirmed just an hour before our forces swept in. We encountered resistance but we surmounted it. I have received word that we suffered a single casualty who is currently in hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

According to an edict issued by King Selemoni XIII in 1989, terrorist organizations and their members are not afforded the same rights as common criminals. Full details on the military operation and the activities of this Ordo Front cell may remain fully classified. No details on the cell members, including the number of members or any names of the deceased, have not been made public.

The Ordo Front is a militant leftist movement which rose to prominence in the Kingdom of Kembesa in the second half of the 20th century. Since the 1980s, they have engaged in terroristic campaigns, attacking the nobility and destroying public property. After King Selemoni XIV ushered in a period of peace in the 21st century, the terrorists continued to act against the state and began an infamous bombing campaign from 2005-2007 which claimed hundreds of victims. In the ensuing decade and a half, the military have cracked down on the terrorists, though cells of the organization still remain.

MILITARY EXPANSION ORDER APPROVED BY CONGRESS

Sophie Boniface-Desmeurons, Union News Editor

Yesterday, the Worker's Congress overwhelmingly approved an omnibus order from the Union Cabinet. The "Stable Forces" order was approved by a vote of 477 to 46 in a rare showing of bipartisan support between the Social-Progressive Alliance and the Industrial Liberty Front. Of the 46 opposed, 28 were from the Social-Progressive Alliance and 18 were from the Industrial Liberty Front. Most of the opposing union votes have been attributed to pacifistic motivations.

The order has three major changes and several minor ones which affect the structure and administration of the Messidorian Armed Forces. The major changes can be described as follows:

  • The Messidorian Army Corps will be expanded with the reactivation of two combat regiments - one in Aɣmatia and a second in East Merovia - and additional support elements. This expansion will open room for approximately 6,000 new jobs, including over 2,000 in combat roles.
  • The planned sale of the Messidorian Air Corps' aging fleet of AAB-F47/B3 Tiara fighter-interceptors is being indefinitely suspended and Union funding will be allocated to key defense industries to develop an update for the aircraft. The Tiara first entered into production 45 years ago and has been upkept by a number of upgrades. The fleet was placed in reserve after the development and production of the Ava 70 fighter just over two decades ago. The Tiara is nearing obsolescence but the Air Corps intends to maintain the current fleet while continuing to expand and produce more Ava 70 aircraft, rather than sell the Tiara fleet and maintain a constant size.
  • The Messidorian Navy Corps will begin new manoeuvers across the Periclean sea. Following tensions from the Gran Aligonian crisis and ending of the Navy Corps' lease of a base on the archipelago, movement across the sea was limited until the vessels were rebased. As part of the Stable Forces order, the Navy Corps will resume its mission of protecting the lane between Aɣmatia and East Merovia

The chairperson of the ILF, Sufyan Askam, had rare praise for the order which he characterized as "an important step to ensure the freedom of the Messidor Union and for workers and the people across the world." Chairperson Askam's leadership of the ILF, which forms the opposition in the Worker's Congress, has recently been called into question by party members on different sides of the ideological spectrum. Market-absolutists have shied away from many of Askam's public statements which have frequently been characterized as belligerent. The hawks among the ILF have also criticized Askam's lack of clarity or actionable policy objectives. Inside sources have suggested that a leadership vote for the ILF will likely occur before the next election cycle.

As a young foreign correspondent, not long out of university, I was told by a grizzled old hack that “Elatia is a whirlwind. When you step out for lunch, there’s no guarantee that it’ll look the way it did in the morning when you get back to your desk.”

Over the past thirty years, this adage has more or less proven true. Nobody knows how many people died during the Great Famine, or ‘the Big Freeze’, as they euphemistically call it over there, referring to the four years between 1984-1988. Experts generally believe that a seven-figure total is not improbable. In the aftermath, rapid market reforms, demilitarisation, agricultural decollectivisation, peaceful coexistence with neighbours and the opening up of the economy helped the country back into economic functionality and reach a degree of rapprochement with the broader international community.

In 2018, Elatia once again shocked the world when Marcus the Purifier ascended to the Mantle of Supreme Prophet through an extraordinary violent coup and purge which led to the deaths of hundreds, including his father and predecessor. His mandate and claim to power had been as the instrument of the Deathless Angels to purge the land of the pure of corruption, the inevitable side effect of market-isation. This he did with exceptional ruthlessness. The world waited with bated breath as they speculated whether he would throw away three decades’ worth of economic reforms and revert Elatia to the totalitarian socialist hermit kingdom which has characterised most of its existence.

He did not. What he decided to embark upon next was an experiment which was far more extraordinary than even the root and branch reform which his father had attempted with the economy. Twelve months ago, by decree, he decided to rewrite large sections of the country’s constitution. In place of the old Representational Congress – a largely rubberstamping body, a new Parliament was to convene, its members elected by universal suffrage. Political parties, once illegal but de facto tolerated under the name of unions and mutual help organisations, now came out into the open to contest the open seats. The executive functions of internal governance will now be handled by a cabinet of ministers, headed by a Premier.

Restrictions remain, of course. The power of the Ecclesia remains pervasive, and heresy (as you know, a largely economic rather than strictly religious crime) is still a serious allegation. The foreign and defence portfolios are headed by Secretaries, not Ministers, indicating that they are the Supreme Prophet’s appointees in the cabinet. They are ultimately answerable to him, rather than the Parliament, although they would still have to appeal to the legislature for their budgets and defend the conducts of their departments before MPs in the ordinary way. Notably, soldiers (including members of the Ecclesia Forces as well as the military) and clerics are strictly prohibited from sitting as MPs. At the last, the Supreme Prophet retains ultimate control over matters of faith and national security.

Even with these limitations, the political reforms still represent an astonishing turn of events, one which, reportedly, cost the jobs of more than one senior intelligence officer around the world for failing to predict such a move.

The votes are still being counted after today’s general election – the first in the history of the country. As predicted, the exit polls indicate that the National Alliance – a ‘broad tent’ cobbled out of the Trade Unions Coalition, the United Farmers’ Collectives, the Association of Elatian Small and Medium Businesses and an assortment of Ecclesia loyalists and nationalists, has won a convincing victory. We should, therefore, not expect too much of a major change in the broad trends of Elatian policies in the near future. The next largest party, the Progress and Development Front, primarily represents the interests of those who have benefited the most from the market reforms. Having garnered at least 40% of the votes, it will likely be able to function as an effective opposition in the National Assembly.

Naturally, the question remains – why? What prompted such a remarkable transformation?

In an attempt to answer this question, I had the honour to interview Her Excellency Mariko Icilia, Elatian Ambassador to the Court of the Lord Protector. It will be broadcast in full on Saturday in The World at Eleven, but I include below an excerpt which will hopefully be of interest to my readers.

CONTINUOUS ONGOING EXPERIMENTATION

“Even now, twelve months after His Holiness announced the political reforms, my colleagues in the diplomatic community are still agog. This mystifies me. It’s as if they expect that, as a country, we are defined solely by our political system, by how the machineries of government are set up and how they operate. Well, this may be how things work in Belisaria, but it’s certainly very different from how we see ourselves.”

“As a country, or, as we prefer, as a community, Elatians are defined ultimately not by political or economic or sociological ideologies, but by our cosmology. Yes, cosmology. We believe, and we know as a fact, that the material world is a prison run by a lunatic, and that we are called by the Ultimate Source and his Angels to break free and return to our divine spiritual abode beyond matter. The preoccupation of material wealth, which we believe defines your country’s worldview, is according to our belief not only senseless and irrational, it’s contrary to the very way the universe is supposed to work. I regret to say that this materialism contaminates even many of our otherwise socialist or collectivist fraternal countries around the world, but at least their hearts are more or less in the right place.”

“Elatia is the Land of the Pure. We are called upon to share the message of the Deathless Angels with the rest of the world, such that mankind comes to the ultimate truth. At least, we hope that they will come to recognise the irrationality of their ways and transition to a more caring and unselfish way of life, something which to a significant extent matters to us more than outright religious conversion. I know this must sound very strange to Belisarian sensibilities, but this is how we genuinely think and reason.”

“How we go about effectuating this is, alas, not prescribed in our holy books. We know our objectives, but how we get there is open to interpretations. Our earlier Prophets were fervent men and women, but in their haste they might not have thought things through. Correctly, they rejected the greed- and self-centeredness of Thalassan capitalism. However, they threw out with it the market mechanism, believing it to be part and parcel of the same evil, something which went further than what the Ecclesia teaches, strictly speaking. They also thought that they could reduce unbelievers to submission with the sword’s edge, leading to their decision to construct one of the greatest war machine the world has ever known. The combination of an increasingly backwards economy and increasingly crippling military spending inevitably resulted in catastrophe, one which took our country many years, as well as the help of friends, to overcome.”

“The market reforms which came next restored the country to economic stability. However, the undiscriminating introduction of foreign economic practices also brought with it the insidious mind-ways of the capitalist demon. For the first time, greed and materialism infected the Land of the Pure. Corruption festered until workers and farmers and even small business owners groaned under the yoke of the unscrupulous oligarchs, on the one hand, and corrupt civil servants, on the other. We genuinely risked another disaster when His Holiness assumed his Mantle in 2018 and carried out the Course Correction which we so desperately needed.”

“His Holiness helped us to regain the true course by going to the root of the problem. The market mechanism and private enterprise, he says, are not the problem. They should not be conflated with the genuine evil which is Thalassan-style capitalism. They are merely machinery for distributing resources. Who is to say that an entrepreneur running a cleaning company with thirty people, with the objective of feeding his family and allowing his employees to do the same, is senselessly and greedily accumulating material wealth? The root of the problem has always been greed, the desire to amass material things beyond all reason, beyond one’s duties to fellow human beings, which is the manifestation of ultimate evil. We will purge corruption with ruthless determination, but we will not return to the primitive closed economy of yesteryears. That was an error which had cost the country too much to revert to.”

“The recent political reforms, seen in this light, should not be surprising in the least. Having unleashed enterprising talents of our citizens in our economy, within the framework of the Ecclesia’s teachings, why should we not do the same with our political institutions? Talent for governance and policy-making is not confined to the person of the Supreme Prophet, infused by the spirit of the Archangel as he may be. By inviting ordinary Elatians to participate in the governance of their own country, we will only make our government and institutions ever more efficient and robust.”

“Ultimately, as I said before, Elatians know their collective goal, as taught to us by the angels and the Prophets. How we get there is a matter of continuous ongoing experimentation. We try, we sometimes fail, and we try again with new ideas. How else are we supposed to operate in this fallen world? Only donkeys don’t change their minds. We, on the other hand, are infused with the divine spark by the Ultimate Source. We are capable of continuing improvement, and we will keep doing it until we get things right.”

THE PRINCES VS THE WAVE

Nashar Azakhi, Kahlakahd

For the first time in over a decade the Princes return to the Pitz World Court with fire in their bellies and a hunger to prove themselves. The match ahead of them is no practice match however. The Zanzali team, known as the Wave, uses an unorthodox formation that is alien to the world of River Court Pitz. Four Vanguards and two Protectors clearly telegraphs what the goal of the Wave is, wearing down their opponents by keeping the ball moving and forcing them into mistakes to score points. By international reckoning too the Wave is a more skilled team than the Princes however this hides the advantage that the Princes have at their disposal. And I am sure that Umar himself is well aware of the shortcomings of the 4-0-2 formation himself without me having to advise him however I'll tell you what I want to see.

The Princes are playing a standard River Court formation, 1-4-1, which lends itself to playing heavily on the aprons. The almost complete abandoning of the aprons by the Wave is a tactical advantage that the Princes must exploit to the maximum to try and get unopposed circles. However this leans heavily on the lone Vanguard and Protectors of the Princes, Umar and Has'kha. Umar is a veteran player of River Court Pitz and has a level enough head that he should be able to manage the extra pressure. Has'kha however should be in for a much rougher game, despite being "the Giant" he will struggle to match four players of the Wave's Vanguard together. So what this ultimately means is that the game comes down to which team manages to control the flow of the game the most. You can bet that the Wave will be crashing against the Prince's defence as often as possible and trying to avoid playing on the apron while the Princes will want to try and move the ball to the sides beyond the 4-0-2 formations comfortable reach and towards the circles.

Ultimately this game might make or break the Prince's route through the World Court. We've seen time and time again that the game of River Court Pitz is one of admittedly fragile but firey egos. Passions and angers go hand in hand and where victory can lead to greater play, losses can lead to teams eating themselves alive or losing their focus to frustration. It's a young man's game and the young Alanahri players don't always have the steady hand that the elder players of many other Pitz Courts. Umar today said that "I don't know if we will win but whether we win or lose it will be from being beaten by a better team not by being beaten by ourselves." He is providing the steady hand that River Court Pitz often seems to lack and we hope that his words ring true later today. If I could say anything to the team it would be that the entire nation and god is behind you.

PITZ
Return to World Court opens with convincing group-stage win against the Kembesans

Kayahallpa kicked off the #PitzWorldCourt in style tonight as they were victorious in the five needed turns, ending the opening affair in steamy Yu city with a comfortable 37-19 advantage in points.

After a tight first turn that saw the Kembesans come dangerously close to scoring several times, a visibly upset Humala did not spare his teammates from a bout of brazen criticism, which seemed to revitalize the team. The Kembesans meanwhile struggled to maintain a good level of play for the rest of the game, with their energy steadily dropping in the rest of the match as the Fire turned on the gas and won two quick turns with only 3 points allowed.

A flashy score into the stone circle from the young K'inich in the fourth turn seemed to seal the relatively quick affair in the Fire's favor as The Elect Fury became increasingly desperate for life, not quite confident enough to take the risks necessary to beat a Kayahallpan team with a chip on its shoulder after a highly disappointing absence from last year's World Court, a rather rare occurrence for Kayahallpan Pitz.

The experienced protector Urpi, speaking to Kaya 24 after the game, said as much: "It is of course the result we wanted, to begin [the] World Court with a win for our homeland. We know we deserve to be here every year, but we must fight for our place now [that] we are here. Kembesa is a good team. They are good players, but we wanted the win more than them."

The visiting Kayahallpan crowd gave all their support to the team throughout the match with their characteristic singing and chanting of hymns dedicated to the spiritual aspects of the game, as is tradition. The match featured notable songs such as "Weeping Sun-Ball of Time", "Pachamama's Court", and "Kayans are Sons of the Soaring Condor", always in pace with the rhythm of the game. With celebration continuing well after the game in the tropical Mutuleses streets, the Players have made one promise: the fans, the nation, and Our Way will not be let down again.

The next game in the group stage will be against the Messidor Union on August 11th, who lost 0-5 to Tyreseia in their opening match. Analysts at Kaya 24 posit Kayahallpa as favorites to win the match, while the final group stage match against the Barqa is expected to be significantly tougher.

Mzanzi national team off to strong start in Yu
by Sartika binwa Alupu
6 August, 2021 @ 20:23 EOT

The air was electric in Yu, on the west coast of the Mutul, as the 85th Pitz World Court kicked off earlier today, diverse teams from all over the world coming together to compete in one of the world's oldest and most popular sports. While there were a handful of very lopsided matches, with the Rezese (last year's champions) thoroughly stomping the Suvarovans and Kayahallpa walking over Kembesa, there were a number of spectacularly competitive and unexpected matches to open the tournament. The Mutulese, hosts and fathers of the game, were narrowly beaten by Vardana after an excruciatingly long match, and the Wazhenabyg, despite losing to the Chasanids, put up a spectacular fight that was thoroughly unexpected from one of the tournament's most unremarkable teams.

The Mzanzi team, affectionately titled The Wave following an internet poll, had an excellent performance for its first match, beating Alanahr 5-2. Zanzali's unusual strategy has drawn international attention to what is historically regarded as a second-rate team. Utilizing four vanguards and no wallmen in a highly aggressive, scoring-focused strategy, it was developed in the depths of the Mzanzi Pitz Federation and its popularization is usually credited to CP Waguguru as early as 2011. The exhausting and frantic playstyle was accentuated by exuberant chanting and singing from the few WaMzanzi in the crowd, which drew in other spectators and surely contributed to the gradual crumpling of the Alanahri team's defense and morale. Despite the fierce showing, after the match was over, Mzanzi vanguard Mosi m. Kakena enthusiastically embraced his lone counterpart, Has'kha Ala, and the Mzanzi team raised the enormous man up on their shoulders, congratulating him on his performance despite being outnumbered four-to-one.

However, this impressive showing does not guarantee Zanzali a clear path to the championship. Tomorrow, they face off against Sante Reze. Defeating last year's champions will be no small feat, and some question whether the Mzanzi team's specialized strategy can hold up against a veteran team's expertise. The day after, Zanzali faces the Suvarovans, who will no doubt be thrilled to face them regardless of the outcome against the Rezese.

Recap: All-Greens vs Peregrines
Suvarova Crushed by the Circle
BY AFFENE PATAPAUA

YU, MUTUL - Simultaneously disappointing and encouraging, the All-Greens didn't just pull together a win against Suvarova, but carefully orchestrated a quick and merciless dismantling of their ability to control the ball. Was anyone in the audience particularly enthused to see it, though, having paid so much to be there with little to end up seeing? Most would likely have preferred the high-scoring excitement of any of the other group matches.

Aldryk Myllur, however, continued to prove a good investment despite his temper, accomplishing marking three circles with the support of his senior wallman Keqeive. His second year at Mulawil Halab is solidly defined him as a force to be reckoned with, particularly against Latin teams. Also coming into her own was Aret Rabiurou, long-time coach and first time participant in the cup; Dyrdorf and Kozakov both would do well to review her play and follow her example, as the limited time on court left them with no immediate education.

In the locker room, Rabiurou and Jawitz laughed off some of the less professional commentary from the Belfrasian-born aggressive vanguard Olearius, and made sure to enter an official statement on the game together. Said Rabiurou: "It's not that the Suvarovans are bad - they never should have been matched up against us first and that's just unlucky. Do they need a lot more experience? Of course, but they should recognize the loss for what it is and grow from it."

Jawitz added, "They knew going in they were going to lose, I am sure of it. If not then they've woken up and had a good fast lesson."

Asked about their upcoming match with Zanzali, Rabiurou offered some concern regarding the differing strategy. "We don't have much experience there, and they've got more combined experience at raw points. The circle usually wins for us with the traditional makeup, but this one won't be traditional at all."

Olearius had some choice expletives to share with Zanzali's mass of vanguards, which we have chosen not to publish.

RUMOURS OF DIVISION WITHIN THE SOCIAL-PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE

Sophie Boniface-Desmeurons, Union News Editor

The Social-Progressive Alliance (SPA) has had a steady tenure in the Workers' Congress since its reelection victory in October 2019. However, the administration has faced a tumultuous second term beset immediately by the first Kiso Conference, the Gran Aligonian Crisis, and the subsequent Onekawan Affair. Criticism of the government's approach to these challenges has mounted from both above and below on the political spectrum. Polling for approval ratings among syndicates in both Aɣmatia and Merovia have remained largely supportive throughout these crises. However, approval has steadily declined in the quiet period that has followed since the effective resolution of the Onekawan Affair in late December.

Under the Messidorian constitution, President Minerve-Saverne's administration could be faced with a surprise general election if a Petition of No Confidence can be circulated and signed by the governing councils of 50% + 1 of the unions and union associations represented in the Workers' Congress. Reports from several unions have confirmed that such a petition is circulating, though it must be noted that this is not uncommon at any given moment in the Union. More alarmingly for the SPA, major supporters have expressed dissatisfaction with the current government, including the Aɣmatian Carriage Works Society and the United Maritime Steel and Brass Workers. Support from both of these unions was massively consequential for the SPA's 2019 and 2015 victories. At the lower levels of these unions, many SPA-aligned representatives and floor managers have been voted out in favour of ILF-aligned members, though even more have been replaced by independents or members of smaller parties.

The opposition in the Workers' Congress, the Industrial Liberation Front (ILF), has also been heavily criticized by its base. ILF Chairperson Sufyan Askam has been roundly criticized for his merely rhetorical approach to criticism and failure to mobilize his base. Approval for the ILF has consequently also declined over the past months and hints at a new leadership election have been dropped by many ILF-affiliated union officials and congressional backbenchers. With similar calls rocking both the SPA and the ILF, political commentators at The Word of Industry have put forward the scenario of a large union holding both political slates hostage and forcing both into new leadership elections before forcing or refusing to force a general election.

In related news, controversy over currency exchange between Aɣmatia and Merovia has led to the announcement from the President's cabinet that an inquiry into currency unification will be commissioned. This announcement led to a slight uptick in the President's approval, but is unlikely to defeat the persistent trend over the past several months. At present, Aɣmatia and Merovia each issue their own currencies which are minted separately but are held at parity. With the recent abolition of the ⅒ denomination for both coins, rounding issues between the customary Merovian ⅖ coin and the Aɣmatian ¼ coin have created issues.

Many Aɣmatian merchants have outright refused to accept Merovian ⅖ coins. The ⅖ coin has a long history in Merovian circulation but has always been difficult to manage. With the abolition of the ⅒ coin it makes rounding particularly difficult. The Coin Minters Association of Merovia has remained adamant about preserving the denomination so long as it remains economical to do so. The disintegration of the union or the integration into the Aɣmatian Silverstampers Union would be a legislatively contentious issue. The goal of a commission would be to evaluate the necessity of any disintegration, the possibilities of a currency merger, or if any alternative action could be taken before bringing forth any action plan to the Workers' Congress.

INDUSTRIAL LIBERTY FRONT DIVIDES

Sophie Boniface-Desmeurons, Union News Editor

A large contingent of Industrial Liberty Front (ILF) representatives at the Workers' Congress has elected to break with their party, uniting under new leadership three days ago. Despite widely-held discontent with ILF Chairperson Sufyan Askam's leadership, the 'progressive core' of the party has split ways with the old leadership and formed a new party called the New Workers Movement (NWM). The NWM representatives allegedly elected a temporary party executive in the early hours of October 4, though the executive will have to be ratified after registration of affiliated workers closes in two months' time. Amid rumours over the past several months that the Social-Progressive (SPA) administration could be forced to face a mid-term election, the news that the SPA's sole opposition in the Workers' Congress would be divided rocked the Messidor Union. The status of the Petition of No Confidence which would have forced a mid-term election remains uncertain and the new NWM may enter into an election campaign before their new executive has been ratified by the workers.

The face of the New Workers Movement is the young Ver Abašan, a 32-year-old member of the United Telecommunications and Broadcasting Technicians from the city of Takalt in North Zwawa. Abašan was a vocal critic of Chairperson Askam and President Saverne alike and is viewed as both a progressive in terms of advocating for workplace safety and social causes, but also as a hawk in terms of foreign policy by analysts here at the Word of Industry. During the Gran Aligonian crisis, Abašan called for a hardline stance against Yisraeli chauvinism and military escalation. He also played a key role in pressuring the SPA administration to expand the Messidorian Army Corps. Abašan was regarded as a potential contender had a leadership election for the ILF been called, but was not considered a frontrunner candidate due to his heavy-handed approach to diplomacy and failure to compromise with certain key factions of the ILF, including the Petroleum Workers Society. On the other hand, Abašan is known to be popular with swing voters, many of whom aligned themselves with the SPA in the past two elections and while the new NWM has only 93 seats out of 523 in the Workers' Congress, they may be expected to make a major impact if an election is called soon.

In response to the break-up, the ILF leadership remained silent until this morning when it was announced that Chairperson Sufyan Askam would be stepping down from his role in the party's executive, stating that he was "shocked and disappointed" with the development. According to the ILF bylaws, Deputy Chairperson Jean-Benoît Baudoin will assume Askam's duties until either a leadership election is held or his appointment as permanent chairperson is ratified by the registered members of the party. Baudoin stated later this morning that he fully intended on carrying forward with leading the party and would be putting forth a motion to have his permanent assumption ratified by the membership. In total, the split has devastated the ILF position in the Workers' Congress, dropping them from 194/523 seats to 101/523.

President Saverne's office and the SPA have yet to comment on the developing situation.

ANOTHER COUP FOR THE NEW WORKERS MOVEMENT

Sophie Boniface-Desmeurons, Union News Editor

After nearly half of the Industrial Liberty Front’s broke away from the party to form the New Workers Movement, new leader Ver Abašan has achieved another victory, this time over the Social-Progressive Alliance as eight SPA representatives to the Workers’ Congress have renounced their affiliations and joined the NWM, bringing their total seat count to 101, pulling even with the ILF. Representatives from the Brass and Steamfitters Union, the Aɣmatian Motor Carriage Workers, and the Green Energy Congressional Association met with NWM executives yesterday to discuss the new party’s platform and each of the unions and the congressional association made official statements this morning. Atelier Solovey, the Messidor Union’s small arms manufacturing syndicate, has also scheduled a press conference for later today. Analysts have anticipated that the ILF-aligned syndicate may wish to follow in the footsteps of other unions and offer support for the NWM. As Atelier Solovey and the United Ordnance Factories are in a congressional association and according to their association’s bylaws, their shared representative can only cross parties if both unions consent. In the event of a disagreement, the association may dissolve in which case neither union would be represented at the congress until the number of seats is reproportioned.

While Ver Abašan and the New Workers Movement have seen massive and immediate success in swaying members of the other two seated parties to join, doubts have been cast on his viability as a presidential candidate for the masses. This is for the same reasons that Abašan was considered a possible contender, but not a frontrunner should the ILF have had a leadership election. Abašan is a strict secularist and, despite being a Kel Adrar Aɣmatian, does not partake in many of the cultural traditions of the northern Amaziɣ culture while also failing to appeal to many of the more conservative East Merovians. Amateur investigators online have brought forth the fact that Abašan is unscarred, eschewing the traditional practice which is common among both secular and religious Kel Adrar. In Kel Adrar society, ritual scarification is performed on an individual's arms after significant milestones in the individual's life with special symbols and designs marking clan ties, relationships, and achievements. Approximately 80% of Aɣmatians have at least some scars etched on their arms despite only 44% of the population reporting adherence to the Itmassan-ddin, or Saints' Faith.

Abašan commented in 2018 that he thought the practice was "outdated" and that he had "no interest in being scarred due to the potential health risks, no matter how remote." The current President of the Union, Yolande-Minerve Saverne, is of mixed Merovian-Aɣmatian ethnicity and is also publically irreligious, but has undertaken scarification on her arms. While most Aɣmatians respect the right of an individual Amaziɣ to abstain from the tradition, Abašan's comments from several years ago may have alienated some Aɣmatian voters. Tiska Housain, the representative of the Petroleum Workers Society, commented using his official account on a forum discussing the topic stating: "Abašan is a soft boy."

In related news, the Petition of No-Confidence in President Saverne’s administration has been confirmed to still be in circulation with 182 of the 262 signatures necessary to trigger an election. Of the unions that remain to be polled, 77 are NWM-affiliated while the majority is SPA-aligned. This means that every NWM representative must sign and at least three of the 104 unpolled SPA representatives would have to sign as well to trigger an election.

Princess Iksana and Octavian Volusenna announce engagement

BY Sinopa Chief Eagle

After months of popular speculation, it's official: Princess Iksana and Octavian Volusenna are tying the knot.

The Palace announced the news in a Friday press release. The couple is engaged and plan to be wed in the winter. Further details are expected Saturday, when the date of the wedding and prior events shall be formalized, and further questions taken in Nikanassin.

In a response given to local media, Princess Iksana said she was "absolutely delighted" to be marrying the Lord Protector, continuing on to address concerns of the announcement's suddenness: "It is true that we haven't called it such for long, but ... once you've known someone like that it just comes naturally."

"There wasn't any sort of grand realization," the princess said. "We had already spent over a decade together, in each other's company, learning how the other one worked. When he finally approached me about it one day it was so wonderful to be able to finally put a name to something that had been there for years. Because, you know, he already understood how I worked, and what I enjoyed, and I the same back to him, so it made taking that step all the easier for it." She also added with laughter that she was "happy that all the tabloids could finally be vindicated for proclaiming that we were together."

Volusenna, whose stepmother is Awasi, described as "difficult but expected" the reaction centered around his status from a different racial background. He admitted that although he had dealt with the same discrimination during his tenure in the armed forces, it "simply felt much different" once it came "from one's own extended family." He amended these comments shortly after, however, continuing "I hold no ill will towards any of those who've said it, of course ... they're entitled to their views just as I am my own."

Such coverage last year led to the princess publicly expressing her shock and distaste at all comments relating to the race or character of those involved with the royal family, stating that commentary of similar tone had no place in modern society. This was one of the first instances of pushback against the media cycle since the death of incumbent premier Aya Whitesnake in 1993.

The announcement of the engagement was made on behalf of Queen Ipani earlier on Friday. Later, the Queen, speaking for herself and King Matwau, said: "Both of us are elated. We hope that they will continue to be contented."

Volusenna's parents, Marcus Volusenna and Kimi Short Robe, said: "We're both so happy for Octavian and Iksana. To see our son, who has spent his entire life serving his country, united with a woman like Iksana who has spent hers doing the same is an absolute joy to see. We're excited for their future and wish them the most fruitful happiness together."

Marcus Volusenna is a Latin expatriate who served as head of the Crowsnest National Guard in an administrative capacity from 2000 to 2018. He married Short Robe, a Ph.D. radiologist, in 2006.

Prime minister Nootau Ayimasis, premier Kestejoo Crowfoot, and the Queen Mother additionally offered their well-wishes and support. Even noted anti-royalist Chogan Yellow Springs, better known as Blackbird, issued a rare one-word response: "Congratulations."

The office of the prime minister noted in a subsequent announcement that there would be no state marking of the event, stating that "while there is tremendous good will towards the matter ... this is not a traditional state holiday. There was not a holiday for the wedding of Prince Viho in 1988, there was not a holiday for the wedding of Princess Neha in 1974."

Locals in the area of the Volusenna residence were also positive. Abukchee Running-elk, 67, out for his afternoon walk, said: "I think they're both good people. I know I'd be excited to meet a princess. It doesn't happen every day."
