Following a mandate by the Imperial Hinodejin Football Association, its colonies were restricted from playing the Travellers' Trophy or the Futurnian Cup, their international football club competitions being instead restricted to inter-colonial play with two tournaments: the northern Crosslands Cup and the southern Oceanic Challenge Trohy.

presents the Yearly Motorsports Review

Welcome to the second part of the yearly review of all motorsport tournaments disputed inside the Hinodejin Empire, both relevant enough for foreign attention and not. Last time, we discussed Tier A's Formula Hinode and all three Tier B championships in Formula Maestro, Formula Empire and Formula Hwangju 2000. Now, we're going down the ladder, finding amusing, interesting and somewhat shambolic anecdotes of Hinodejin motorsports in the process.

TIER C
Formula 5000 Drivers' Champion: Kaoru Asakura (Asakura) - Team Champion: Nighthawk
Usually known for their low entrance cost and questionable safety, the announcement of a new administration for the competition looking towards increasing its standards with the populace (and especially, motorsports aficionados) meant that the Formula 5000 found itself in a shift where teams were now forced to a limited (yet cheap) group of chassis and engines. As usual, the 5000 saw a group of new teams showing up to the grid, although the likes of Asakura, Hamada, I-Praseru, Kojima, Nighthawk, Phoenix and Twinkle actually featured teams that already had their hands on other pots, a sign that perhaps the championship was getting some respect after all.

Running a third-year engine from Lolla and a chassis built by University of Nashihana students, fellow Nashihana native (and nephew of team owner) Kaoru Asakura ended up edging out most of the competition (the washed out, the pay drivers and the relatives of people in charge, as per usual in Formula 5000 still) while announcing to the world that the Asakura Family Motors Company plans on moving forward into the world of Motorsport, possibly just like the Fujiwara and their Formula Hinode team. Meanwhile, the Nighthawk team proved their traditional excellence protocols were good enough for a team title.

Amidst that, the 5000 saw the other side of the grid either die off from lack of funds or go into their usual shenanigans, usually from one-piece outfits that weren't good enough to last the whole championship. The less sombre notes include Sokka Motorsports leaving for half of the season because the team's funds were re-routed into fixing their pet robot lemur, Diabo Verde left for two races as their entire crew was out from a case of "marijuana poisoning" and the infamous Eternia team found themselves over as a team after their team owner was found running afoul of the marriage laws of the Zora Kingdom.

Formula Kaneda Drivers' Champion: Eliott Greene (Lycan) - Team Champion: Lycan
The first fully-funded season of the Formula Kaneda could easily be described as the Day of the Lycan. The outfit from Sassania took over the championship from the start and then managed to see it through the end, only ever getting any sort of challenge from Maladroit's Jeanne Dugarry and Kaneda-Misei's Wang Xiangfei as they challenged Lycan's duo of Eliott Greene and Kentaro Matsushita for the top of the grid.

Tetsuo League Drivers' Champion: Ok Ho-Min (Hwonjeol-Tetsuo) - Team Champion: Hwonjeol-Tetsuo
Meanwhile, rival major brand Tetsuo saw Hwonjeol, a team more established in the Formula Hwangju 2000, make a good impression as their reserve drivers in Ok Ho-Min and Heo Nam-Soo dominated the competition without much of a challenge from just about anyone. Perhaps, this is a sign of what Hwonjeol will bring to Tier B next season after frustration on their home tier hit.

Formula Yuro Drivers' Champion: Diana Filipova (ZAO Kasparev) - Team Champion: Genesis
With most of the grid running in experimental Balta engines, the biggest worry on the Formula Yuro was as to whether they'd face some sort of vehicular disaster - the engine itself was found to have some issues in the burning of fuel in what has been described best as "shoving a rocket engine into a car". Thankfully, the Yuro's usual talents of cyborgs and golems ended up doing particularly well with the engine, although ruling it out of Tier B competition upwards. ZAO Kasparev's Diana Filipova completed her fourth season on Tier C and her sponsors believe it might be the time for her to make a move up.

Somei Yoshino Class A Drivers' Champion: Katarina Galipova (Gyaru) - Team Champion: Fujiwara
Known as the pet series of the province of Somei-Yoshino, fans were unsure as to whether the standard of competition would be "spoiled" with foreign participation as talents such as Martin Larsson, Tye Cottonbelly and Mateus Silveira springing up for new teams such as Lazuli, Sophitia and Aurora. Regardless, Somei-Yoshino quality was able to at least guarantee the Team Championship as Fujiwara beat rivals Asakura and surprise contenders Gyaru for the title. Unsurprisingly, the incredibly competitive Katarina Galipova finished the season with the title for drivers after essentially carrying Gyaru to the higher places of the Team table.

TIER I-A
The Esforços Unidos de Shintochi Stock Car Cup Drivers' Champion: Maria Lurdes das Neves (Neves) - Team Champion: Marisol
Spearheading the foundation of Tier I-A, the Shintochi Stock Car Cup has been a feature of Shintochi motorsports, albeit with a different name. As part of the efforts to restructure Shintochi life, the tournament was revived with a couple of historical teams and other enterprises interested in empowering the tournament back up to its glory days. Sure enough, the Drivers' Champion of the cup was 55-year old Maria Lurdes das Neves, whom the media nicknamed "the Granny of Motorsport". With her old husband and three sons killed during the war, Maria Lurdes insisted that her participation in the competition was a way of honouring the fallen while also bringing an old name back to the grid. Meanwhile, new team Marisol ended up claiming the Cup for teams.

G-ZERO Drivers' Champion: Yozei Shiburi (Chaotix) - Team Champion: Reynard
The Space Dependencies' favourite league, G-ZERO's heavily dangerous races almost cost the competition the rights to even have a proper tier (to give a perspective, five pilots died last season) but the expansion of participants to include technological efforts from other systems and pilots from abroad made the competition somewhat better - although we still saw the death of "convict driver" (slave to pay, apparently, per some ridiculous customs from one particular Dependency, since outlawed by Hinodejin authority) Marmeluke Dengar and the total destruction of Robotic Driver Jenn-X1.38bY on a particularly rough curve of one of its' more traditional circuits. Garbodor native Yozei Shiburi impressed on his debut season for Mobian outfit Chaotix while stalwarts Reynard of G-ZERO's home system (the Red System) claimed their third title on a row ever since splitting from Starfox.

IN SPACE... NOBODY CAN HEAR YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT THE VAR
With regional leagues being established as the norm for such a large empire as the Hinodejin one, many wondered if the constitution of the league designated for the Empire's various space dependencies would hold: the Empire went from having just about three or four territories to already claim power over four different solar systems, increasing its numbers after every month or so spent on interplanetary research. By the looks of it, the Hinodejin had been up to some funny business while everyone else was busy with their politics, wars and bears. And while it made sense for many of those regional leagues to face-off based on their geographical position, an ever-expanding region like "Space" seemed to weaken the argument.

In any case, the football league itself was restricted to three of those four systems - the concept of association football had yet to take hold on the red system, although Corneria had already managed to establish their very own first volleyball team with Volley Club Foxy Renard aiming for an ambitious attempt at league play sooner than later. Meanwhile, the Onyx system already had the lead with the almighty Canvas City Royals, space's strongest team, with the Orange and Blue systems hovering not too far off. The first season of Galactic Football featured the following teams.

Acornia Mobotroshima: Based out of the capital city of the planet of Mobius, Acornia is one of the many clubs participating in the league that have the full backing of the displaced royals of their own planet, this particular case being the House of Acorn. The upside is that said house had a lot of support on their own turf and thus are able to build a competent team, the downside is that the name Acorn accompanies a lot of drama.
Alakazam Kikimi: The lone professional team of the planet of Kikki, Alakazam is composed of a mostly homegrown squad of Mantisse, the planet's native race. Unfortunately, the species itself is known for not being amazing at physical play, often relying on their telekinesis talents to compensate. The club worked with the Imperial Hinodejin Football Association to update their rulebook in order to accommodate quirks such as theirs and of other species.
Allado Torichi: Hailing from the bird-people lands of Vincent, Allado Torichi is, understandably, a team featuring only local talent, which means they all have wings over their arms, therefore forcing them to wear a different kind of jerseys and even some protective clothing for their wings to prevent any sort of injury coming from contact or literally a heavy strike. Airplay is usually their biggest strength but a lack of finesse with their feet prevents them from using it regularly.
Angolia Kaerukosei: From the planet of Pekapon, the Angolia Kaerukosei display the Angols biggest attribute in their style of play via showing heavy strength in spite of their diminutive size. Imagine playing against a group of high schoolers able to push you off the field with a bit of effort. At the end of the day, the team's jovial attitude and sportsmanship made them media darlings but the results more often than not fail to accompany their perceived good fortune and they're already expected to perform poorly.
Bandera Shihoniijima: Established to lessen the usual fisticuff duels of the planet of Shinpaku, the Bandera's most interesting feature is their "Code of Bandera" - a group of rules that players and fans have to live under both in and out of the stadium. When asked why they even have such a code, any member of the team noted the reason to be rather understandable as the society in Shinpaku usually organizes itself among dojos, societies and families in a combination of violence and goodwill. Needless to say, preventing combat is key to the team's longevity.
Barata Yoshimitsukawa: Garbodor's finest team, currently playing out of the gentrified (and by that, we mean cleaned up) section of the "trash planet", the team is another club of homegrown talent, all of which wish to present their home planet in the best light by displaying quality teamwork and perhaps some individual flair. The Konshuman, Garbodor's dominant humanoid race is a cross of humans with insects, usually displaying some proud exoskeleton to go along with their regular, inner skeleton. Usually, that makes for a rather funny combination whenever they try to put up a football uniform but the team itself announced they believe to have finally nailed it down.
Canvas City Royals: The league's most experienced team, being established not too long after Canvas accepted dependency status from the Hinodejin Empire under the name of Anhalla wa Malla Football Club, the team was making some waves in the bottom tiers after their qualification into the pyramid not too long before the whole concept was abandoned for regionalism. Funded by prominent members of the former Canvusian royal family, the team features some crossover players from the Hinodejin mainland and even other parts of the main planet. Plans are in place for the club to eventually field what's essentially an all-star Dependency-only squad but there's a lot to be accomplished before they even get there.
Coello Xiamaansh: From the southwestern portion of planet Lapin, Coello takes its name from the Coello tribe that was already small in numbers by the time the Hinodejin Empire arrived on their planet. Beneficiaries of the goodwill of the Hinodejin, the Coello people have enjoyed some advantages given by the Empire but chose to avoid going into conflict with their former rivals, realizing that revenge would perhaps not be the wisest move to do right in front of a new overlord. Especially in the off-chance said overlord decides to leave them to their own devices.
Echuang Tempesta: On the southeast of Lapin, where tempests are common sights, the pride of the city of Echuang took to form a couple of years ago and while not successful on the field, have been able to impress outside of it with their outlandish advertising campaigns. Add some flashy uniforms and it's easy to see why the team remains crazy popular inside their own planet and in a myriad of football boards across the multiverse - the Multiverse Championship Manager challenge Torrential Tempesta (guiding Echuang to win all possible silverware) remains a hit with the community, per example.
Esper Kusuoshima: Hailing from Elsys, the rivals of Kikki, the Natenna populated club was the first one to fully embrace the quick solution to hide and protect their power limiters, the tools used to prevent their planet (and perhaps, reality as a whole) from collapsing against itself, by enforcing a club-wide hat enforcement rule which, while not entirely democratic, has made the club a bit of a hit with the fashionistas of the Empire. Given the team isn't particularly good, Natennas aren't known for their athleticism regardless of whether they wear said limiters or not so it's understandable that talent just doesn't seem to come by easy.
Forest Mihako: Izanagi, known as "the beautiful planet" by Hinodejin authorities, is where Forest Mihako hails from. It makes sense that the team would name itself after the planet's biggest asset - its large and impeccable forests. Decked in green and brown, the team has an approach that leans heavily into an environmentalist character: the team's stadium being quite literally made out of repurposed (but also fire-proof) wood, most of the team's practice sessions being replaced by gardening time and the team also chooses to sleep on their pitch once a week. You could argue the team would be better with more orthodox practices but then again, if you lived in Izanagi, you wouldn't really worry about that sort of stuff.
Intermetropolitan Stellapolis: Ambition is the name of the game in Base Stellapolis, home of the Intermetropolitan. Built not too long ago, the Base has been settled as a sort of Imperial market hub and as such, the idea of establishing entertainment features has been in the minds of pretty much everyone who happens to work and/or live there. The club's president stated they wish to emulate Interdimensional Misei but with a quicker rate - needless to say, they were one of the couples of teams that were very much in favour of the new regional system and seem to be looking forward to showing their skill against the nation's big dogs.
Jojolion Morioh: Considered by now a part of the surprisingly peaceful capital city that shares its name with the planet itself, Jojolion's status at Morioh is less of a sports club and more of an attraction for both locals and tourists. Choosing to be the club for the Jostandu, one of the planet's two main species, it's understandable that the other predominant species would somewhat avoid their club like the plague - but it's not been too difficult for the club to find a following with tourists that visit Morioh every year spending at least one or two days watching the local club play.
Ketsukeizumi Deadmen: Fittingly as ominous and bizarre as their home planet of Keros, the Deadmen seem to appreciate their edgelord tendencies, even if the team itself has often presented itself as just as fair as any other team if you're able to look past their killing beast exterior. Not to say that players, fans or even the club staff aren't fond of getting other people scared from just being in the same room as them - you have to have at least some upside to having to live on the dark planet of Keros, in any case.
Kometa Tsukichi: The Lunarians' first ever professional club, the Kometa play out of the moon known as Tsuki - something unusual given the rest of the Dependencies of the Empire are either man-made bases or actual planets. Unlike just about any other club of the league itself (or the entire Empire, come to think of it), the Kometa is merely a group of local players who indulge in the sport for the fun of it, rather than any competitivity while mostly profiting off other ventures that the club has links to. According to the club's president, the laissez-faire approach makes sense when you consider life in Tsuki is pretty boring.
M-Shippa Shagallama: From the planet of Teppei, home of the Llamui (essentially, anthro Llamas) and more specifically, playing out of the planet's religious capital of Shagallama, the M-Shippa are the perfect team for the youth of the city who couldn't be arsed about their people's religion of Lhamaism. With cheap tickets and a pretty nice stadium built by the side of a mountain, the good spirits are usually partnered by some competent footballing, although most believe the team might be honestly good sooner than later.
Michelangelo Tortoise: While Canvas has a pretty popular club in the Canvas City Royals, other professional clubs have since started play inside the planet and the Tortoise, out of Michelangelo, is currently the only team of the pack that has been able to make a case to be a contender against the rest of the Space Dependencies' finest sides. Their only downside is not being a fan of the artistic-themed puns that teams from Canvas seem to just have to get used to. They're not fans of sports commentary done by people from abroad, put it that way.
Ninfa Kirenaichi: Playing near their planet's sky, very much like their own hometown of Kirenaichi, the Ninfa is technically a tribute club to another team from the mainland, Hylian Ninfu. Hylians under the mission to help populate the region chose to establish their own football club at one of the high-tech colonies of Izanami and, sure enough, like their mainland team, the Ninfa ended up becoming the best team on the planet. Then again, playing at the highest stadium on the planet might have something to do with it. Altitudes and whatnot, gotta hate that kind of team.
Pantheon Kamigamiyama: From the Empire's favourite holiday destination for bachelors and bachelorettes - and you really shouldn't stress how that work, as a bit of advice - the Pantheon is basically named after the impression that most of the planet's natives get from outsiders in terms of their beauty being "something akin to the Gods". That's not to say the planet of Helena doesn't have other advantages and its inhabitants are only good-looking, but the club hasn't done much to prove them to be much else. In fact, they're currently the weakest team of the whole bunch. Good thing there's no relegation here, yet.
Snowman Toridichi: Playing out of the city of Toridichi in Ciel, the name Snowman isn't wrong. In fact, if there's one thing you can be certain about Toridichi and the planet itself as a whole is the loads of snow that have, at times, made for a major issue against regular games in the region. As a result, the team currently plays at an indoor stadium but there are plans to build a proper dome with a retractable roof, assuming Snowman becomes a regular team in the top tier of Galactic Football.
Umbrella Senshihon: The lone professional team out of the capital city of Lapin, Umbrella was named after the weapon of choice of many a legendary warrior in the planet's history, a mix of an umbrella and gun that can do quite the damage if left unchecked. Unsurprisingly, the team follows a combative style of play that isn't afraid of getting physical if needed. Understandably, teams visiting Senshihon should be prepared to square off against some "nasty members", if you catch my drift.
Warrior-Z Shizumi: The proud combative Saiyan race took to football with a passion hard to match, mostly as a way to still find some sort of conflict to fight on. Playing out of a retired battle coliseum at downtown Shizumi, capital of the planet Carrota; the team's colour combo of red-and-green (somewhat like Audioslavia or the Hinodejin mainland side Radikokoro Ichitsuki) is usually a sign of warning for incoming teams, especially ones that can't match the Saiyan physicality.
Woody Takayaka: With intelligent life slowly coming back to the planet of Kashiki via migration of both workers down on their luck and hapless adventurers, the capital of Takayaka was finally able to fund a professional club two years ago. Named after the local beast known as the Woody, a bird-like creature that feeds on pieces of old wood and any sort of fruit, the team is another ambitious outfit that plans to grow with the community as its hopes for the future progress with the community's desire from greatness and power.
Zei City Zetamax: The cross of human and dragon led to the Zamyung, the native race of the planet of the same, who had already been operating under a system that was somewhat close to a capitalist system, which apparently helped their introduction into the Hinodejin sphere of interplanetary influence. In spite of not being based after the planet's capital, the rather pretty and well-maintained city of Zhanzeixing; the Zei City Zetamax is what's essentially the finest football team from their own home planet. With the backing of the planet's powerhouse company Zetamax, who employed most of the club's original members and still has a deep link to it regardless of their separation in administrative terms, the Zei City team is a promising club that might make it to the big dance if other powers aren't careful enough.
Zhan Zettaforce: Unlike the Zetamax, Zettaforce hails from the formerly militaristic city of Zhan and were even almost certain to retain their own original name of Zhan's Royal Arsenal but decided to go for the brander Zettaforce, based after the manga series written by a Zhan native. Not enjoying the same level of financial backing as their main rivals, the Zettaforce is more well known for their ability to produce talented young players in other sports, one of which happened to look similar enough to football, giving them a small step into the major show. They also celebrate home wins by hosting a large barbecue party, which does make them a pretty liked team to square off against, as it's tradition for them to invite the teams they beat for it too.

BECAUSE NOTHING EASES THE TENSION AFTER A WAR THAN FOOTBALL...
The Frontier League features teams of two provinces. Normally, that would sound rather limited but it makes more sense with the context that both regions are, indeed, blood rivals with enough luggage behind them after the short-lived Dreamplanetian-Hinodejin conflict. Then again, it only makes sense that the only two provinces of the Hinodejin Empire present in this realm have to square off against each other for a ticket to the Empire's finals.

The league itself features two favourite teams in the shape of Interdimensional Misei and Inverdy Shinshabona. Interdimensional Misei is likely a more familiar side to those who followed Hinodejin football during its IFCF affiliation period - formed originally to become a major tourist attraction and reason of pride for Misei, the capital city of the province of the same name. Playing in dark blue and orange, the team's name was the result of a poll open for voters both inside and outside of the Hinodejin Empire and during their earlier days, their squad often used foreign players that came for free on the Transfer Window. During the downtime of Hinodejin football, the club was reformed to become one of those clubs that employ the finest players they could find abroad (as long as not under the IFCF banner) and some quality local talent.

Inverdy Shinshabona has its roots hailing from the days of Dreamplanetian football, the club itself is merely the reestablishment of the almighty Sporting Club de Dreamplanet, where it had a reputation for developing quality players and also happened to feature one of the country's most diehard fandom. Started by widowers of the club's staff and a couple of exchange students that managed to return home after the war, the club hit the ground running once they played their first-ever season but soon found themselves struggling to climb the pyramid until the regional reform. Now, a couple of years away from those days, a team relying on their storied academy prepares to honour their region with a hopeful title and, mayhaps, a victory in the big dance.

Other teams of the league are either formerly amateur clubs from Misei that have since taken up the mantle of professionalism or reformed clubs from Shintochi, all of which were formed to try and best represent the old Dreamplanetian league but under a Hinodejin flair, as is to be expected given the Empire's efforts to rebuild the region after the war.

FROM THE FAR, FAR WEST OF FUTURNIA
Naval legends spoke of lands far into the Futurnian seas, lands that were peaceful but distant from the eyes of central Futurnians. Sure enough, the Futurnian Association chose to try out those legends and found themselves a land that has since been dubbed Far Far West Futurnia, a chain of continents with a couple of nations that hadn't been heard of. They were certainly humans but seemed to speak with rough accents, hard to be totally understood.

Until someone got a Francóphone in the room to understand why - French was their "universal" language, thanks to the influence of the richest state of the bunch, Batillien. Avid merchants, the Kingdom of Batillien had a curious culture, a larger French population with a noticeable (and loud) English-speaking minority, something that would play off in their inaugural season of professional football.

TWO NATIONS UNDER A SINGLE CROWN
According to local historians, Jarjahia's foundation came to be when the youngest son of Roi Maxime I of Batillien, once he had been turned down the chance of becoming the next monarch of his father's lands, instead sneaked his way into the throne of rival Kingdom Kjelhia. The Kjelhians, obviously, were against losing the crown to a Batillienish royal, one that could possibly try to unite their crowns into one.

In the end, both kingdoms decided to do a deal, sparing some of their less productive lands in the Batillien side of the bay, which would then also add some lands from the Francophone kingdom, forming the Great Duchy of Jarjahia, under the protection of the Battilien crown, something that holds up to this very day.

Legends spoke of invaders of faraway lands being sent away scared from a giant cross, the fabled Giant Kjelhian Cross. It's not only that which the Kingdom across the gulf has of notoriety. Amazing writers and storytellers have been born there and attended the almighty Jundenenes Academy, the classic Kjelhian Lutefisk hails from these lands and many of the Far Western Futurnian corsairs were built in Kjelhia, the sale of which was facilitated by a new peaceful diplomatic scenario once the treaty that determined the creation of the state of Jarjahia came to pass.
