Leader of Workers party states that party will no longer work with the Conservative party after August 13th

Image
Rayisa Bohdanivna addressing members of Workers party in New Samistopol earlier today
New Samistopol -

Although the move had been considered and rumored since 2019, the leader of the Workers Party Rayisa Bohdanivna, announced earlier today in a party meeting that the workers party will no longer be a member of the Grand Union Coalition, and stated that it would either work with the Unionist Party alone, or join the opposition if the Conservative Party is involved in any level inside the new government on August 13th, 2021, although cooperation will end on June 15th when parliament is dissolved for the 2 month campaigning period. The decision to cut ties with the Conservative party is met very favourably by the supporters of the Workers party, which had voted Rayisa a relative newcomer into the position of leadership last January 15th.

The recent surge of attacks, and the announcement of the breakup come as a result of a carefully created strategy by Stepan Martynyuk to attract former conservartive voters in the Freedom and Nationalist parties, supporting legislation that would give greater support to Constituent Parliaments, along with less restrictions on government, a move which is bowed to earn Stepan strong numbers in the polls. Stepan has sought to emanate Hryhorivnas high popularity during her government with great success, along these similarities include a stronger stance against the Workers party, calling them Chistovodian puppets in numerous occasions. This laid the groundwork for the conflict between both parties, a conflict former Workers leader Vadym Stepanovych was not able to respond to effectively against the attack by the Conservative party, Stepanovych which had been facing inner division within his party since his election in 2019 mainly from the more leftist wing of his party and with low popularity on his leadership. Found himself embroiled in scandal onNovember 4th when a picture of himself on a business trip to a Soravian beach resort with someone other than his wife appeared on Vinalian tabloids , resulting in him resigning parliament and the party the day after. A breakaway group the Socialist Alternative, led by Alina Rybak was to quick to gain traction and with its strong rhetoric gained high popularity, what followed was a contested leadership election that resulted in Rayisa Bohdanivnas victory, her strong stances and relative unknown status made her the perfect opportunity to relaunch a more youthful and leftist party. Something she has done with great success creating the highest Workers polling numbers since 2015, and being seen as actual change to the Workers party.

Rayisa has focused her leadership on attacking where possible the Conservative party of Stepan Martynyuk, to great dismay of those in the Unionist party including Minister-President Omelyan Pavlov, which has publicly spoken out against the tension inside the coalition, and speaking negatively of attacks between both parties. But Pavlov seems to have accepted the inevitability of a breakup of his ruling coalition come election time, and is ready to act on the situation.

Both the Workers and Conservative parties occupy the different sides of the political spectrum, and although both parties would in other democratic countries not work together. The major party of Vinalia, and the maker of governments, the Unionist Party has made both parties work together for close to six years. Following the corruption scandal that brought down Minister-President Ulyana Hryhorivnas government in 2015, the Conservative party lost its large proportion of seats going from 80 seats in January 2014, to 11 in August 2015 in the House of the People, which elects the Minister-President, Turden Najic the leader of the Unionist party, which had worked with the Hryhorivna government in a coalition since 2008, sensing an opportunity was quick to move forward with the Workers, and Conservative Parties to ensure their support for his government in 2015. The idea was one birthed out of desperation as none of the 3 parties held enough support to establish a government, despite the threats created by the Nationalist party of the launching of a planned secession referendum for South Vinalia, also helped mobilize all 3 Pro-Vinalian parties into motion. Turden Najic ensured this coalition remained united under the control of the Unionist Party, and all 3 parties benefited from the endeavour, as all 3 parties worked together in an electoral level to ensure the coalition benefited, with parties running only their strongest candidate in an electoral seat so as to not split their votes. This careful planning ensured Najic his 2nd term in 2017. Najic would in the face of declining health surrender his leadership to Omelyan Pavlov, which had hoped to maintain the same level of cooperation especially in regards to elections in the face of 2019. But both parties declined, in 2019 all 3 parties maintained an alliance for the purpose of mutual benefit, but at the electoral level cooperation no longer continued.

Although Pavlov could have continued his government without issue in 2019 with just one of the two parties, the politics of Vinalia forced Pavlov to continue the increasingly unsatisfied coalition together. The constituent states of Vinalia and their Parliaments, hold incredible power in regards to numerous subjects in the country, such Parliaments are usually controlled by the Unionist Party, with another party being close behind Workers in the case of the North, and Conservative in the south. Although together all 3 parties can move legislation in all 3 parliaments without much issue (a requirement that some laws be approved in the Vinalian Parliament and then on both constituent parliaments), the prospect of one party leaving the coalition would ensure some laws and pieces of legislation would remain on limbo for years to come, all 3 parties benefit from mutual cooperation at Federal and State level. This is shown when a Workers supported bill recognizing the marriage of same-sex couples as legal passed with little opposition in all 3 parliaments in 2019, while at the same time a bill supported by the Conservative party sought to reduce taxes for the top 10% of Vinalians made its way through. This level of cooperation has been seen quite negatively and has led to the establishment of numerous Anti-establishment parties on the state level, which have become a problem for the Coalition to pass legislation, this is shown where a bill that would prohibit the fishing of Swordfish in Vinalian waters was struck down by the South Vinalian parliament rendering months of work in the Vinalian and North Vinalian parliaments where it had previously passed useless.

But such a threat is something Pavlov will have to work with, polling reveals similar trends as in 2019, but with the workers party closer to the Unionist party, although Pavlovs leadership faces no challenges from either party, it seems to have allowed the Unionist party which has faced criticism inside and outside the party for its lack of resolve in reducing the power and strength of its two other coalition partners. However the recent developments give the ability for Pavlov to cut either Workers or the Conservatives party, with the threat of the other sufficient to ensure a strong unionist leadership regardless of the outcome. Pavlov is expected to begin talks with both sides on the future of the country, while also conducting informal talks for the discussion of a new president for the country, another issue on the table that must be addressed.

The symbolism of announcing this in New Samistopol rather than in Vinalinsk during the coming days ahead of the Parliament entering recess on the 12th for campaigning season ahead of the elections is not lost, as New Samistopol is a strong Conservative supporting city.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO DISCUSS AMENDING CONSTITUTION
Proposed amendment would see Slirnian Autonomous Region be renamed to the Esrodekoba Autonomous Region

Today, the National Assembly began deliberation on amending the Lemovician constitution to rename the Slirnian Autonomous Region to the Esrodekoba Autonomous Region, and to amend relevant legislation to no longer have Slirnians be the "titular nationality" of the region, but instead to designate the region as being an autonomous region for Savaders, Miersans, Slirnians, and Vedmedis.

Legislator Török Kristóf from the Slirnian Autonomous Region, who proposed the measure said that "since the [Slirnian] Autonomous Region was created in 1983, Slirnians have become the smallest ethnicity within the area: in 2017, there were only 337 Slirnians but because of their status as the titular nationality [of the Slirnian Autonomous Region], power has been concentrated in the hands of a small privileged few."

Török said "By introducing this bill to amend the constitution so the Autonomous Region may be renamed, and to amend the relevant acts that have up until now limited the position of Secretary to ethnic Slirnians to being open to all minorities residing within the autonomous region, it will ensure that minority rights will continue to be protected within the Autonomous Region, while ensuring that power does not concentrate in the hands of a small minority."

This bill generated debate, with Gorana Nikčević, former Secretary of the Slirnian Autonomous Region from 2003 to 2007, and a representative from the region saying that "the autonomous region was created specifically for Slirnians residing in the region at the time that we were liberated from western occupation in 1983: to change the status would delegitimise Lemovician sovereignty over the area, and jeopardise our relations with our Slirnian comrades across the border."

Török responded to Nikčević by saying that "Ociote Sasiambaŕena wanted the Slirnian Autonomous Region to be an autonomous region for the Savaders, but because of xenophobia back then, he was forced to compromise with Nikolas Lezana to give the area to the Slirnians, even though most of them fled northwards to the so-called 'Miersan Sotirian Republic.' To amend the constitution and relevant documents to rename the region and to give the titular nationality to all the minority groups inhabiting it would not delegitimise our sovereignty over the corridor, but to strengthen it."

Török also said that "in this legislation, I will ensure that Slirnian, Savader, and Miersan will remain co-official alongside Lemovician, for they are spoken by the major minority groups of the Autonomous Region: I do not want this bill to force Slirnians who live in the autonomous region to lose their identity and their culture."

In the Slirnian Autonomous Region, Secretary Vukosav Raonić said that "there are some concerns that I have about the bill [proposed by Török Kristóf], as although I am supportive of increasing participation of all our constituent minorities within the day-to-day governance of the Slirnian Autonomous Region, I am concerned that taking this approach would lead to many high-ranking Slirnians within the local branch being dismissed by the central authorities or by the party membership just for our ethnicity."

"I would like to see a guarantee from Topagunea that I be allowed to finish out my term in 2024 before I can officially endorse it," Raonić said. "That is all I'm asking."

Chairman of the Presidency Arin Munićića (file photo)

Following concerns raised by Secretary of the Slirnian Autonomous Region, Vukosav Raonic, and by the Slirnian Foreign Minister, Vidoke Luksić and Slirnian Premier Irena Mesic, Chairman of the Presidency Arin Munićića declared that "Slirnians will be able to stay in Lemovicia," and that "the current Secretary of the Slirnian Autonomous Region will stay in office until the end of his term."

"Since the National Assembly has proposed this bill, I have received concerns from most Slirnians within the region that they would be subject to cultural assimilation," Munićića said. "I and the national government will ensure that Slirnian culture will continue to be promoted within the region, while promoting Savader, Miersan, and Vedmedi cultures alongside Slirnian culture, and that there will be no forced assimilation into our culture or repatriation to Slirnia."

"The national and regional governments will continue to work with our Slirnian counterparts, even after the name of the Slirnian Autonomous Region has been changed to better reflect the diversity of the region," Munićića said. "And we would like to reassure them that we will continue to uphold the Arciluco Agreement and to protect the rights and the safety of all citizens residing in the region."

Wrzesiński condemns occupation
Image
President Wrzesiński speaking at Sechia

SECHIA - While visiting Sechia, Miersan President Sylwester Wrzesiński condemned the acts of the so-called "Lemovician" council who is currently debating a law to change the status of the so-called "Slirnian Autonomous Region" to being the "Esrodekoba Autonomous Region," renaming it after the Środkowa powiat which the "autonomous region" covers the southeastern third, saying that "the górale have no right to continue their occupation," and urged their immediate withdrawal from the Środkowa corridor.

President Wrzesiński said that "we have been informed through our Slirnian partners that the breakaway górale 'state' are currently debating legislation to alter the status of the occupied parts of the Środkowa powiat so to allegedly reflect the 'diversity' of the area. However, the górale 'state' are illegally occupying the Środkowa corridor, and have done so for nearly four decades."

"Given the Arciluco Agreement only divides up Małomiersa into two parts, of which one continues to be occupied by the górale 'state', while the other is under Miersan rule, and given that the agreement stipulates that traffic between the eastern voivodeships and the górale 'state' be unimpededed by our government, there is no legitimate reason for the górale to maintain their occupation over the Środkowa corridor beyond us tolerating their continued occupation for the past twenty-nine years," Wrzesiński said. "And our patience, and our tolerance is running out, for just yesterday, the górale arrested a priest for preaching in our language in the southern neighbourhoods of Mistózburó. Many Miersans who have been displaced from the corridor want to return to their lands, to their homes."

"Frankly, the górale have no right to continue their occupation over the Środkowa corridor, and they must withdraw from the corridor as soon as possible, because the górale never had any legitimate claim to the area: it was always Marolevic land," Wrzesiński declared. He then promised that "we will guarantee that all traffic from the eastern voivodeships to the area will travel through unimpeded by our government if the górale withdraws all their forces from the Środkowa corridor and repatriates the land back to us."

PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF LEMOVICIAN CONSTITUTION DEFEATED 56 TO 52
Török expresses "disappointment" in amendment's failure, Nikčević expresses "relief"

40th anniversary of Lemovician independence at the National Assembly chamber (file photo)

Today, the National Assembly held a vote on Török Kristóf's legislation to amend the Lemovician constitution to rename the Slirnian Autonomous Region to the Esrodekoba Autonomous Region, and to amend legislation so that Slirnians are no longer the "titular nationality" of the Slirnian Autonomous Region.

After another heated debate by supporters and opponents within the National Assembly, the vote was finally held at 13:00. The vote was divisive and narrow, with fifty-six legislators voting against the legislation, fifty-two legislators voting for the legislation, one abstained, and one was absent due to illness.

Following the vote, Török Kristóf expressed disappointment, saying that "despite the fact that there are more Vedmedis residing in the Slirnian Autonomous Region than Slirnians, the National Assembly has decided to maintain rule by a small Slirnian elite [within the Slirnian Autonomous Region]. Török said that "at the end of the day, the people have made their decision, and we are obliged to respect their decision."

Gorana Nikčević however expressed relief, with Nikčević saying that "the defeat of this proposed amendment is good for central Euclea, good for the Slirnian community in Lemovicia, and a relief to those concerned that we Slirnio-Lemovicians will be persecuted or driven out by others within the country." She added that "now our priority is to strengthen ties with our brothers and sisters across the border [in Slirnia] and to deepen cooperation with Dražovice more than ever, so that we will not have a repeat of what happened here today."

Secretary Vukosav Raonic of the Slirnian Autonomous Region has also expressed relief, saying that "while the Presidency has reassured us that we would be able to stay and that I would be able to finish my term, the fact that many people, both within Lemovicia and outside of it, viewed it as dangerous for peace in central Euclea, means that it is probably for the best that the amendment was defeated [in the National Assembly]."

NEWS | South Kabu bans all non-BKMI affiliated parties
South Kabuese President Tirto Sutikno signed a Presidential decree banning the creation of new parties and all non-BKMI affiliated parties
2021-06-05T12:50:30Z
Image
President Tirto said the ban it was the latest in a series of reforms promised by him in last year's election.

When Tirto Sutikno took office in South Kabu many praised the incoming President as a young moderniser and reformer. As the son of South Kabu's revered former leader Sutikno Harjo he won the Presidency in a a landslide on promises of opening up South Kabu's democracy and improving the quality of life for it's citizens. Today, he's banned all opposition parties.

Tirto announced the ban alongside hardline communist Premier Susilo Dwi and members of the governing Kabuese Section of the Workers Internationale (BKMI) at the office of the President in Ayukarta. Announcing the ban Tirto said: "Today's decisive action is necessary to grow and protect democracy in Kabu and in our never ending quest to provide better governance for the Kabuese people."

"This isn't the creation of a dictatorship, but the first step into rebirthing our Democracy and ending the increasingly divisive and polarised nature of our political system."

The decree will give all non-BKMI groups five weeks to close voluntarily or be forced to close by the authorities. The decree also bans the creation of any new political parties, pro-BKMI or otherwise. The five week countdown until all opposition groups must shut down began today and already a notable non affiliated group has announced it will be following the decree, the Green Party of Kabu.

Notably, the ban doesn't effect the Senat Rakyat as all it's members are either members of the BKMI or independent BKMI-affiliated politicians. To run in an election in South Kabu a party must affiliate itself with the BKMI and place itself under the control of the powerful National Policy Group. At least 10 smaller parties are affiliated to the BKMI but none have had any representation in the Senat Rakyat since the 2020 General election. Previously these parties made up 1/3rd of the legislature from 2015 until last year's election.

Prominent South Kabuese dissident, Budiono Djoko led the criticism from Morwall where he called it: "the latest lie produced by the BKMI as they become more out of touch with the reality of the situation of the ordinary man in South Kabu". Budiono Djoko is a former Senator from South Kabu who defected to Estmere in 2008 and has since led an opposition group to the BKMI from Morwall, he is a wanted in South Kabu on charges of treason and sedition for allegedly supporting the ongoing insurgency in the country. He agreed to speak to the Coian Monitor on the issue.

"Tirto and Susilo knew what they were doing today was anti-democratic but I'm surprised about Tirto's support of it. He made fighting for democracy a key part of his 2015 and 2020 Presidential campaigns and is still seeking to end the state of Emergency. I would have expected this from Susilo Dwi because he's a dictator in waiting but not from Tirto. Frankly I'm disappointed but in the end this is the BKMI and they will stop at nothing to get their way even if it means abandoning Communism."

President Tirto has already pushed back on claims that he is creating a dictatorship and tried justifying the move as a move in the right direction to ending partisanship and creating a true democracy in Kabu.

Agricultural Output, Exports Decline

SHAREImageImageImageImage
Klara Levy (@KlaraLevy)
7 June (1:13pm)|PIETERSBURG

Agricultural production and exports have declined by as much as 60% in some industries, with similar numbers reported for exports, particularly of fruit, as the effects of the Pico de Sangue eruption continue to be felt.

Newly released statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture show that crop production has declined by an average of 40% between November 2020 and January 2021, while fruit production halved over the same period, leading to a net trade deficit for the first time since 1998. Nuvania's decline in fruit and crop production was met with little to no change from the dairy and meat industries. Vegetable production declined by 15% over the same period, with slightly less export losses.

Nuvania's crop and fruit industries are the largest earners within the agricultural sector, which combined represent NS270.98 billion (€16.59 billion) in agricultural production and NS99.09 billion (€6.11 billion) in exports. Combined these represent 90% of agricultural exports and nearly four percent of Nuvania's total exports.

David Monacks, spokesperson for the Nuvania Fruit Growers Association (NFGA), said that short term forecasts were for losses of export and domestic market revenue as fruit growers were forced to offload fruit onto domestic market, causing prices to decline substantially.
"The fruit is still edible," he said. "However, quality control demands in our key overseas markets meant that much of the fruit that was harvested after the eruption on plantations that were affected by the ash were not able to be exported." Monacks said that banana exports were especially hard hit as much of the crop was being or due to be harvested during the eruption. He said that as bananas alone are worth NS26.52 billion (€1.62 billion) in production alone annually, any impact on the industry was going to be felt widely. However, he said that the forecast for banana growers was "good" in the medium to long term forecasts, with the new crop unaffected by the eruption.
"Longer term forecasts will see banana growers back to profitability by the end of the financial year," he said. "The current crop will be largely unaffected by the eruption and will have no issues when it comes to exportation."

Monacks said that while bananas may bounce back quickly, other crops were not so lucky. Among the worst hit were Nuvania's pineapple growers, which saw reductions of production of between 45-50% as many of the plants were during the early development stage and therefore would result in a likely loss of the harvest. He said that what could be harvested would likely also be purely for domestic consumption. However, he said that the opposite would occur for pineapple growers, as a reduced supply would mean prices would spike for the fruit until demand could be met. But that did not mean that growers would be able to turn a profit, but rather mitigate losses.
"Growers are likely going to see short to medium term losses," he said. "This will be mitigated somewhat by the high prices." Monacks said that the industry was well place to withstand the forecasted losses but it would still be a difficult time for growers and producers.

Across the fruit industry, most declines came from exports as ash-damaged fruit was unable to be sold in export markets. For 2020, banana exports declined 40% from 1.6 million tonnes exported in 2019, to 1.01 million tonnes by the end of 2020. Pineapples saw an average of 48% decline in production, from 873,000 tonnes in 2019, to 453,000 tonnes. Pineapple exports declined by half, and were now down to nearly 7,600 tonnes. Canned pineapple exports virtually halted, as no product was left to be able to sell overseas. Avocado exports declined 40%, with citrus fruit declining by 43%. Financial losses from the decline in production and exports have amounted to well over NS19.19 billion (€1.17 billion) so far.

Cash crops took a subsantial impact as well, with sugar cane declining by 44% in terms of production and exports, with production down from 35 million tonnes to 19.6 million tonnes. This in turn impacted the production and impact of sugar, as the vast majority of sugar cane grown in Nuvania is processed and refined into sugar for both domestic consumption and export. Centrifugal and refined sugar exports were down by the same amount as a result of the decline in sugar cane production, reduced to a combined total of 608,000 tonnes, down from just over a million tonnes. These declines represent NS2.8 billion (€171.79 million) in financial losses. Corn saw slight declines in production output and exports. Tobacco and others saw little to no declines, with geography influencing these outcomes. Central and southern provinces saw comparatively smaller declines, with Mahaika seeing no declines at all. Northern provinces, especially Etten and Kanaän, were hardest hit.

Among the non-fruit crops to be significantly impacted by the Pico de Sangue eruption was coffee, which alone is responsible for NS35.92 billion (€2.2 billion) in exports alone. Many crop growers experienced losses upwards of 70% according to Jan Haasbroek, a spokesperson with the Coffee Producers Federation (CPF). He said that many coffee plantations in northern Nuvania experienced a total or near total loss of their crop which would render it extremely difficult to come back to profitability in the near future.
"Total crop loss is extremely devastating both emotionally and financially," he said. "Growers have invested significant amounts of time into growing and cultivating their crop only for it to be wiped out." He said that he had spoken to a grower from southern Etten who had recently expanded his operation by planting 5,000 seedlings in late July last year. After the eruption, less than 200 survived the ashfall. Haasbroek said that while many coffee plantations were not in any significant financial harship, he said that now, many growers will be looking for financial assistance.
"We're seeing increased requests for both direct financial assistance as well as indirect assistance from the government, and that demand for this assistance will likely continue well into next year."

Chris Cowden, a spokesperson and agronomist with the Nuvanian Agrarian Federation (NAF), said that the organisation was working with central and local government to provide financial assistance for farmers and growers where necessary. He said that the the NAF had seen a number of farmers and growers approach the organisation for assistance, the vast majority of them small-scale farmers.
"These are the kinds of people who will own smaller plots of land and really only grow crops for local consumption," he said. "Agriculture is their only livelihood and so many smaller rural communities will have seen hardship increase since the eruption occurred." Cowden said that the hardship would be short lived, as what was lost will be able to be replaced. He also said that as the plants were not covered in substantial amounts of ash, it could be absorbed by the soil and release nutrients that would create "very fertile soils".
"Volcanic soil is highly sought after because of the neutrient content that exists within it," he said. "Studies have shown that plants will thrive after being covered with thin layers of ash, and that many regions impacted by the initial eruption will bounce back relatively quickly because the soil will now become nutrient-rich, which means bumper harvests for crops."

Minister of Agriculture, David Verryn, said that the government had set aside more than NS4.89 billion (€300 million) in financial assistance and loans for farmers who had requested it. He had also said that the government was also looking to increase the amount set aside to more than NS7.34 billion (€450 million) when negotiations with the Global Institute of Fiscal Affairs (GIFA) were concluded. In a written statement to the press, Verryn stated that the government was committed to the rebuilding of the agricultural sector following the Pico de Sangue eruption.
"We will work tirelessly to ensure that our agricultural sector will bounce back from this disaster, and will be more resilient in future adverse events."

Yndyk, Alsland -
The 2021 National Security Bill which was introduced by the government in response to the 6/1 attack has passed the Folkssenaat with near unanimous support and will be signed by President Hepke Veltman after weeks of debate and protests.

The bill which seeks to curb and prevent future terrorist attacks inside Alsland allows the security services further powers to monitor terrorist suspects and extremist groups such as those frequented by the 6/1 bomber Richold Zuidema in the years and months preceding the attack. The bill had support from across the political spectrum despite concerns about civil liberties, the National Bloc, Progressive Alliance and Together all supported the bill and the bill even gained support from ASAY, Martimaa and the Workers Party despite being criticised by all 3 parties during the debates regarding the bill.

Despite this the nationalist, libertarian FDU was the sole party to oppose the bill after the party's leader Clara Fabel promoted conspiracy theories including one from an accused neo-functionalist group alleging that the bill was a 'left wing attempt to destroy the right'. Fabel alleged that a day of reckoning would befall the parties of the right if the bill passed.

The Folkssenaat debates were much more civil and one sided with prominent Conservative politicians voicing their support for the bill. National Bloc leader Lilliana Elliott said it was a piece of legislation that was needed years in advance. Despite facing opposition from parties within the bloc, the Together bloc voted to support the bill after heated discussions between the Future Party and bloc officials.

The bill faced criticism from former Premier Jonathan Fraser after he called it 'draconian' before suggesting the government should seek alternatives to the bill to combat domestic terrorism. Former SDyD Senator Jilje Jansen said he opposed the Bill in it's entirety and claimed the public was not fully informed on the contents of the bill. Despite this the independent privacy watchdog in Alsland, KYA said the bill had it's flaws regarding privacy but added that the safeguards introduced alongside it did not pose a threat to privacy in Alsland.

Alsland has become ungovernable
Polarisation and the rise of 'Together' have made it impossible for any government to effectively pass legislation according to former Premier Asser Toman

Internal skirmishes within the Blocs also threaten to topple both Möller and Elliott before 2023

YNDYK, ALSLAND -
Governing Alsland has always been a challenge. But it has never in it's history been so difficult to govern as it has today. In the last several weeks and months with the spectacular collapse of Lilliana Elliott's government in January and Ottila Möller losing her majority only a few months later it's been left up for debate if a government will ever be able to command authority and respect in the same way as past governments have been able to.

It hasn't always been like this, in the 20th century Alslandic governments were considerably more stable than their contemporaries, in 1991 and 2000 the Progressive Alliance was able to win an outright majority twice and Marshall Harvey's brand of compassionate, liberal conservatism was able to secure him 12 years in office. But between the 2000 Legislative election and today something has shook Alslandic politics so badly that today we have reached a level of discontempt and instability the likes of which we have never seen before.

Of course there are many possible explanations for this. The recession in the mid 2000s and the rise of the Workers Party and it's subsequent collapse has been suggested as a reason, Jabik Nieuwenhuis made headlines when he became the first far-left Premier in Alsland and his ambitious policies were credited with Alsland's subsequent recovery but his personal unpopularity and a severe lack of judgement by Jochen Schünemann, the leader of the National Bloc at the time plunged Alsland into a major political crisis and for 15 days between 2008 and 2009 led to the brief Premiership of Schünemann and the impeachment of President Monsma on charges of corruption, Monsma's impeachment was the first successful impeachment of a sitting Alslandic President and both Monsma and Schünemann were jailed in 2011.

Nieuwenhuis was however returned as Premier but the subsequent chaos of the removal of Monsma led to the near total collapse of the bloc system which has been a fundamental part of Alslandic politics since the Great War. After the 2009 Legislative election a coalition between the Progressive Alliance, The Centre and the National Bloc was formed in an unprecedented move to restore trust to the political system but the coalition famously collapsed in 2011 after internal fighting over that year's Budget and the 2011 Legislative election was dominated by a toxic campaign that has become all too sadly familiar with modern elections.

Another reason is potentially the collapse of the Hellinga and Wieringa administrations in 2015 and 2017 respectively. Aarnd Hellinga was elected to provide clarity after 3 years of what was described at the time as 'uniform chaos' of the Fraser administration. His 2014 slogan "Accountability and Stability" would come back to haunt him in the following months after it was revealed Hellinga was bribed by a former Justice Party Senator, Vambola Mitt to provide government aid for a business he operated in Rahu. The Mitt scandal led to Hellinga's resignation on April 25th, 2015. His successor Aachtsje Wieringa immediately faced calls to resign after she was later also implicated in the scandal, only two weeks into her Premiership she announced she would be retiring from politics at the next legislative election. In early 2017 she lost a vote of no confidence in the run up to the 2017 legislative election and her coalition with the FDU came apart. The 2017 legislative election results were unclear and it took 5 months for a government led by Liliana Elliott to be formed.

Finally, the rise of 'Together for the Republic' which was created last month as a centrist alternative to the National Bloc and Progressive Alliance. Already the Bloc has considerable support and a recent poll published by ANS suggests they would emerge as the largest bloc if an election was to be held. The bloc encompasses traditional allies and enemies such as the conservative Swathish Democrats and the Green Party. Any potential future government by Together would be unprecedented and would represent a diverse range of opinions. The Bloc has also suggested not nominating a current Senator as their candidate for Premier and a Bloc official has suggested forming a technocratic government to provide the best possible results.

This leads to the question, is there any chance this country's politics can return to normal? Sadly it seems unlikely in the foreseeable future. As of today the government can't form a majority whilst at the same time the opposition can't gather the support to remove the government and would likely face the same problem. The no compromises approach of today's politicians has irreparably damaged this country's politics and it's clear to everyone that they need to snap out of this attitude before serious harm can happen.

This year the first electoral challenge for this new brand of politics in Alsland will manifest itself in Yndyk, Martiland and Fawkhamshire. All 3 have Progressive Alliance governments and polling shows Martiland will likely remain governed by the Kirenian People's Party. The situation in Yndyk and Fawkhamshire is more delicate however. Polling data from Fawkhamshire has the incumbent government falling behind the 'Together' bloc and in Yndyk the leader of the Radical Party in the Yndyk Assembly, Ibele Nijholt is attracting voters with his ambitious target to make Yndyk run on 100% renewable energy by 2030 and to solve the housing crisis in Yndyk and Delland by approving the construction of several planned towns in disused industrial sites outside and inside Yndyk.

After these elections we will be able to take a glimpse at the potential future for Federal politics with the new Tribloc system. Until then we must accept that we are heading towards the political unknown and what comes after that is anyone's guess.

PRESIDENT RYGINSDOHTER NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION
The President said that "serving her homeland" had been the "honour of her lifetime".

Image
Ana Jonsdohter (@anajdohter)
11 Jun 2021 | Aalmsted, Azmara

Image
Ryginsdohter at an industry event in November 2020.

AALMSTED, AZMARA – President Ryginsdohter announced she would not be seeking re-election as President of Azmara this September at a news conference at lunchtime today.

The 50-year-old, who has served since her election in 2015, stated that while she considered it the "honour of her lifetime" to have "served her homeland" in such a role, she was choosing to resign "to focus on her personal relationships" and to "focus on her family first". When asked about the possibility of serving a non-consecutive term, she said that she "could not rule it out", but added that the 2027 election was a "political lifetime" away and that "everything could change" between now and then.

Ryginsdohter reached national fame in the late 2000's as a localist representative for the Lilijenburg neighbourhood of Aalmsted due to her strong criticisms of the established political parties of the country which carried weight among many within the city and the country as a whole, and would gain more fame when she successfully ran for Mayor of the city in 2010 as part of the localist, anti-establishment Onwards! movement, declaring its intentions of "uniting moderate liberals, social democrats and Sotirians to build a better Aalmsted".

Her term as mayor led many to praise her as a "competent maverick" due to her ability to work with politicians from all sides of Azmaran politics, working with all major parties within the city and serving to competently mediate between trade unions and businesses while mayor and was widely lauded for her infrastructure development plans, notably leading a campaign to regenerate the Oststed neighbourhood and pursuing a renovation and expansion of the city's public transit networks. She also gained a reputation for progressive stances on climate issues, appointing multiple Green politicians to her government and pursuing many environmentally friendly policies as mayor.

As a result of her high approval ratings when she stood down as Mayor in 2014, she ran for President in 2015 emphasising her conciliatory credentials and won with 57.9% of the vote. While many interpreted her actions and statements as Mayor as slightly left-leaning, while President she has worked with governments led by both the centre-right and centre-left with little controversy and has remained a popular figure on the national stage, with 75% of the public expressing approval of her as President in a poll taken late last month.

All three individuals who had served as Thingspeaker in the time of her Presidency (Sofija Freidriksdohter, Eryk Jorśsun and Sofija Anasdohter) have tweeted expressing their pleasure working with Ryginsdohter, with Anasdohter saying that she "respected her decision" to step down but that she would "miss working with her".

Amid speculation as to whether she would run for a second term, it was considered by many that if she had run that the race would not be particularly competitive and that due to her high approval ratings she would win easily and the only opposition being token, yet it is considered that her disinterest in running again opens up the field for a competitive race, albeit no candidates not affiliated with the far-right or far-left have declared their candidacies yet.

The Tsabaran Crisis: Who are the Suhalans?
Le Monde takes a look at one of the most oversighted people in the Tsabaran Crisis; the Suhalans.

Image
Xand Albanese is a 'living legend' amongst Suhalan fighters; having volunteered to fight for the Federation despite being 76 years old.

Lazrou, Tsabara

When one thinks of the Federal Republic of Tsabara it is not unreasonable to assume that what comes to their mind is a simple dichotomy between 'liberal' coastal Atudites and 'conservative' rural Rahelians. Whilst this is a gross oversimplification that does nothing but to condense an incredibly diverse country, with varying social views and economic positions between its ethnic groups, it ignores the rich ethnic diversity found in it too.

When people are reminded of the remnants of the Euclean colonisation of the area; that brought Gaullican families (and to a lesser extent other Eucleans like Etrurians and Paretians) to the Sotirian, Irfanic and Atudaic Holy Land, it is met with confusion and perplexed ideas on the legacy of imperialism. When they are informed that there are indigenous Sotirians who speak a language that is linguistically related to the Solarian languages of Euclea, some people believe you're pulling their leg.

The Suhalans are an old ethnic group; having arisen out of a mixture of the native peoples of northern Tsabara and the Solarian colonists who migrated to the region during the existence of the empire. As aforementioned: they are primarily a Sotirian people in communion with Solaris and speak 'Suhalan' "Rahelian Solarian". This language is linguistically similar to Montecaran and Emessan and was virtually indistinguishable from several coastal Solarian-descendant languages until the turn of the first millennium. Now its lexicon is sprinkled with many loan-words from Rahelian linguistic groups and, conversely, Gaullican terms from their time under both the Verliquoian and Gaullican Empires.

They live, roughly, along the northern Tsabaran coast from Manara to Sadaa and roughly towards the border of Nise. And have lived here for hundreds of years, if not thousands. They have been part of countless empires and states, including their own several times, and have served across dozens of armies: Solarian, Verliquoian, Heavenly Kingdom, the Tagamic armies, Euclean armies during the attempted reconquest of the Holy Land, localised sultanates and emirates and finally the Gaullican Empire. The Suhalans were amongst the most critical of the Communalist Regime in Tsabara and many underwent a diaspora during the forty-odd years of its control of the country. It can be said with a general accurateness that many Suhalans are fiercely patriotic of their regionalist identity and many of their religious, linguistic and cultural traditions were safeguarded under the constitution of the Federal Republic.

We at Le Monde had the privilege of speaking to Xand Albanese, a local community leader and 'proud Suhalan and Tsabaran' who decried the attempts to dissolve the Federation. Albanese confessed to us that he had never considered Tsabara to be his country, but volunteered to defend "[my] home and [my] people" in the ongoing civil war between the government and radical Irfanic extremists in the east of the country.

Xand described his efforts as localised attempts to show that the guaranteed constitutional rights of the Federation will not be eroded by any attacks on the consociational state. "It is a simple thing," he told us. "If we do nothing, then the enemy will win. The government needs our support. I voted for President al'Qutayni not because I like him but because I think he will do this rightly. My loyalty is to the Suhalans and he will defend them. He has promised. I do not trust politicians, but the international community is watching him."

For the sake of anonymity and safety, Xand Albanese did not identify how many volunteers from his local community had come with him but he described it as a "a lot". He also explained that there was a large amount of initial confusion because the "terrorists haven't reached our part of Tsabara", so "when we arrived at the front we noticed we were fighting alongisde the TSWI and well part of me wanted to shoot them too."

"But this fight is bigger than us and them," Xand said as our conversation with him came to a close. "Our resentments don't matter anymore; not for now. We're all fighting for the same thing."

The Suhalans continue to fight alongside the government, as part of the broad coalition of ethnic and ethno-religious minorities that constitute a resistance to the threat of Irfanic extremism. They are a reminder, along with countless other groups, of the complexities of a conflict that many outside of the country may erroneously believe to be a simple ethnic conflict.

Yemeti President Retta Iskinder declines to seek re-election as President, remains leader of the Irfanic People's Party
Vice-President Obe Feleke, long-time political ally of the incumbent President, to stand in President Iskinder's place in 2021 election

Image
President Iskinder pictured with Vice-President Obe Feleke (left) and Minister for National Defence Nebay Azizawet (right) in 2020
Girota, Yemet -

President Retta Iskinder announced earlier today that he would not be standing again in this year's Presidential elections in a move that has caught many analysists, myself included, off-guard. I published an Op. Ed. last month comparing and contrasting President Iskinder with the Tsabaran authoritarian strongman al-Tughluq and their similarities and important differences between their brands of politics and the politics of their countries at large. Given Iskinder's recent moves to rally his conservative, Irfanic base of supporters, it was anticipated that he was preparing to announce he was standing for a third consecutive term as President, in defiance of Yemet's 1997 Constitution which he has repeatedly railed against as being a 'Euclean-imposed diktat that did not take into account the will of the Yemeti people.'

Such a move would likely have caused backlash both domestically and internationally, and the obvious reason for the move not to stand is simply the President does not believe that his support base is strong enough to fight off his political opponents while also handling the international backlash and likely challenges in the Supreme Court.

President Iskinder, in a statement released earlier today, said that he was not running for a third term 'because I am a law-abiding politician who will not return this great country to the decades of civil war and insurgency.' Given his prior actions while President, this seems to be little more than a smokescreen to conceal his real reasons for departing office. Yet it is a nigh-unchallengeable one in the public eye, even if Iskinder's enemies will likely not believe it. The Irfanic People's Party will instead be led into the presidential election by Obe Feleke, Iskinder's Vice-President since 2015 and one of the current president's closest political allies. Although not Iskinder, his candidacy will reassure much of Iskinder's base that even if the President himself is gone, his successor is unlikely to undertake any actions that Iskinder would not do himself.

Indeed, it seems unlikely that Iskinder intends to retire from politics at all, as he has indicated that although he does not wish to stand for re-election, he has not resigned his post as the leader of the Irfanic People's Party which means he will still control the patronage networks that dominate Yemeti politics and therefore retain a great deal of influence through the People's Congress. It is also possible that Feleke will name Iskinder to the office of Vice-President, allowing Iskinder to remain involved in politics from that position.

The candidate of the opposition Sotirian National Party, Nyoro Karungu, has said that 'the President's respect for upholding the letter of the constitution is welcome, but he should uphold the spirit of the constitution by resigning his post as leader of the Irfanic People's Party so he does not become a shadow president if Feleke wins', while the candidate for the centerist National Salvation Party, Jayte Qeyd, has stated that 'he applauds the President's decision to uphold the 1997 Constitution and not plunge the country into a political crisis for his own personal gain'.

Although such comments seem to indicate a welcoming of the move and relief on the part of the opposition, there remains a great degree of wariness about the freeness and fairness of the upcoming elections given Yemet's rocky history with such things. The number of official polling stations in the Sotirian east of the country, and in pro-National Salvation Party areas in Mittelgond and the Degam Highlands, will be a key indicator of how fair the upcoming election really is.

Parliament is dissolved, campaigning season to start

Image
12th of June Free Press Newspapers printing with political advertisements, for delivery the morning after.
Orlavo

Today parliament met for the last time before it meets again on August 13 when the new parliament sits down to elect a new Minister-President and on this occasion a President. Although no legislation had any chance of passing, legislators made symbolic bill proposals mainly for setting the stage for the 2 months of campaigning ahead. Regardless at 8pm, President Ersnt Rupold officially dissolved parliament kick starting electoral campaigning until 11:59am August 11th when campaigning will end and polls will open primarily in Euclea and Coius for Vinalian citizens to vote on Vinalian diplomatic missions, as polls open everywhere else at 7am.

Polling indicates the Unionist Party at 35% is safe in ensuring its historical role as the kingmaker of Vinalian politics, and Omelyan Pavlov is in position to easily secure a 2nd term in office. The Workers Party at 29% is showing itself as a strong player, and an incredibly strong opposition party shall the Unionists decide to move forward with the Conservative Party. The Conservatives for their part hold a 23% on polls, although they could make gains against the other Right-Wing party, they need to try to switch voters from the Unionist party to themselves, a difficult task for sure. The rest of the polling at 13% is divided between the remaining 6 parties, the lowest for the opposition ever, barring the two months where the Socialist Alternative, a breakaway group from the Workers Party polled at 13% and 14% in November and December 2020 respectively, but has since dwindled down to 1%.

As newspapers nationwide prepare to begin the distribution of newspapers with political advertisements, television channels, along with radio stations prepare to sign deals with political parties and candidates tomorrow. Vinalia prepares itself for two months of campaigning and electoral promises, ahead of its election on the 12th of August 2021.

Former Prime Minister Saverio Merante, who served from 2008 until 2016 as the parliamentary leader of the Sotirian Democratic Party has died at the age of 71 in San Pietro from a heart attack. Having been in hospital since 1 June, his condition deteriorated since his arrival at San Pietro General Hospital, leading to his death at 12:08 pm.

His widow, Adelasia Merante was thankful for "the best efforts of the staff [at San Pietro General Hospital] to try and save my husband's life," and said that Saverio Merante had lived a "full life as a lawyer, a Member of Parliament, a Prime Minister, and the SDLP presidential nominee in 2016," but most importantly, according to Adelasia Merante, "he was the best husband anyone could ask for."

President Edmondo Privitera sent condolences to the Merante family, with Privitera saying that Saverio Merante "...was a gentleman and a worthy opponent" during the 2016 presidential campaign, and that "he had a great impact on not just the community in San Pietro, but also on wider Imaguan society."

Parliamentary leader Ed Tagawa of the Sotirian Democratic Labour Party has sent condolences to the Merante family, saying that "Mr. Merante was a formidable force in the Chamber of Commons, and I have been delighted to have had the pleasure of meeting him and his family. I wish Mr. Merante peace in the afterlife."

Dalmazio Pasquarello of the Movement for a New Imagua told reporters that "Merante's passing is a tragedy for his friends and family, and given that I have had the pleasure of debating against him, I can say he was a worthy opponent and an honorable man who believed strongly in his visions for Imagua, even if we did not always agree."

None of the other party leaders have given a response to ITS as of press time.

Per Saverio Merante's last will, he will not be laid in state in Cuanstad, but instead would lie in repose at the Parochial Hall in San Pietro. His funeral mass at Saint Peter's Cathedral in San Pietro is scheduled to take place on 19 June, with invitations extended to the leadership of the SDLP, the President, and the Prime Minister. He is then scheduled to be interred at the Mastriano Cemetery, where many former Imaguan politicians, including former Prime Minister Pietro Muro, have been buried.

Cerqueira pulls massive stunt, joins LP, calls for snap election
Citing consistent disagreement with UC and others, Cerqueira calls for snap election, and announces she is officially becoming a member of the right-wing populist Patron League. UC and LdP leave coalition in response.

Cerqueira at the Assembleia Nacional after the LP ended the UCs tax cut proposal

Precea, Luzela: Today Premier Isilda Cerqueira made an announcement that she will be no longer be an Independent politician and will join the Patron League, the growing right-wing populist party. She also has called for a snap election. This comes after many disagreements in the Assembleia Nacional between the Patron League and other members of the government coalition, mainly the more moderate Conservative Union and Liberals of Paretia. Including an event earlier this month when a UC-proposed tax cut was stopped by the Patron League, the LP said that the proposal was too lenient on the "elite" and refused to support it, Cerqueira praised the vote. This division has lead to little progress being made in the government.

After multiple meetings between Cerqueira and LP leaders Selena Caprichoso and Paulo Sérgio Lima, they have decided they will request the Monarch, King Erasmo, to enact a snap election. Premier Cerqueira said today on twitter, "After weeks of consideration, I have decided I will be joining the Patron League. I have come to realize that the UC and other moderates are not worth working with. Also, I believe that it is time to have a corrective snap election, as our people are dissatisfied with these useless moderates."

According to recent polls, people who voted for parties like the UC, LdP, and CpL are in fact dissatisfied. In a May Paretia In Numbers Poll, of 2020 UC voters, only 30% support their party's leadership, whilst 70% support Cerqueira, and 63% support the Patron League. A recent Os Quatro party support poll shows the LP popularity up 13% and the UC down 15%. Similar downward trends are seen with other moderate coalition parties. Opposition parties such as the Social Democrats and SPIT have seen a growth in popularity as well, with the SD up 1% and SPIT up 5%. The other populist Alternative Party also has seen a 1% growth in popularity.

Cerqueira and Caprichoso meeting earlier today

In response to Cerqueira's decision, the Conservative Union leadership criticized her greatly. UC leader Marmeleiro said todayu that she is "working against Paretia's democratic process". Liberals of Paretia leader Nicole Barboza said that Cerqueira is making a "big mistake". Opposition leader Esmeralda Falcão announced that she was indifferent on the decision by Cerqueira and that her party is ready for a snap election. After these comments, both the UC and LdP announced plans to leave the government coalition, which will lead to a hung parliament. This has lead to the Assembleia Nacional dissolving, and now almost certainly a snap election will be called by King Erasmo, which would likely occur in August.

Cerqueira and the Patron League leadership have discussed how they will go about their strategy in a snap election. The party earlier today have decided on created on dividing party leadership. They will have Cerqueira become Chairwoman of the party, and party leader Caprichoso announced she will become the General Secretariat of the party. Cerqueira will lead the party in a snap election. Caprichoso stated today that "Cerqueira has always been a populist at heart, she is a people person and I believe she, I, and our colleagues will lead the Patron League to a stunning victory."

Kulo militants launch coordinated attack on medical centre and school in Culloland
Hundreds of children are believed to be at risk, as well as several members of the Imam Parastar Foundation, who began essential vaccination operations in the area just weeks prior.

Militants affiliated with the unrecognised separatist Kulo State have launched one of their largest terrorist operations seen in Garambura as they overtook the Kinkangu All-Girls School and the Yamboua Medical Centre just north of the small city of Rashamira, the capital city of the Culloland department in northern Garambura.

It is believed that over two hundred schoolgirls have been taken hostage, as well as a further fifty patients at the medical centre and several members of the Zorasani Imam Parastar Foundation, who were using the hospital to launch its essential vaccination program, negotiated by both governments several months ago, in northern Garambura.

The attack has come as a shock to both the Garamburan people and government. The latter have confirmed that Kulo militants have claimed responsibility for the attack but denied to comment on whether communications had been made with them to negotiate the release of the hostages. A spokesperson for the government said that they would be "working closely" with both Zorasan and Gaullica, who maintains small military deployments in the region, to deal with the situation "as effectively as possible".

The country has struggled with Kulo-affiliated terrorism in the past, most notably with the assassination of Louis Jazilé in 2010, but despite its frequency it still struggles to thoroughly administer the regions of the country farthest from the economic and political centre of its littoral regions. Its scarce population and unrelenting climate and terrain have contributed to its administrative difficulties, but some local activists put blame on the government for failing to direct necessary economic boosts to the region.

A Rashamira resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, says: "The government have neglected this region for decades. No investment, no infrastructure, and then they turn their back and act surprised when they are unable to properly govern the region. The blame is on them."

The act is said to be part of a larger trend of rising militancy and tensions in the Kulo regions in the last decade, with attacks rising to levels unseen since the end of the Kulo Insurgency in the late 1970s in the last few years. However, this attack stands out in particular in both its gross violation of medical neutrality as well as the involvement of several high profile foreign nationals. The Zorasani government, who has taken great care to lightly sidestep the issue of Kulo separatism amidst its political expansion into Bahia, now cannot ignore the fledgling state's attempts to undermine its charitable operations in the region. The Foundation itself, which is based in the Irfanic holy city of Borazjan, has yet to comment on the matter.

The Garamburan central government, in coordination with the Culloland departmental councils, declared that all boarding schools in Culloland were to be suspended immediately until further notice. Parents were encouraged to collect their children as soon as possible. The cabinet met for an emergency meeting, where Adi Ngunzi, Minister of Defense, as well as Loïc Mnkandla, Minister of Health and Mpumelelo Qoboza, Minister of Education, raised the issue "seriously and firmly" with Premier Tumai Gwisai. Gwisai declined to comment on the processions of the cabinet thus far.

It is unclear what the hostage-takers are asking in return as of yet. The government will look to keep a lid on any official communications between themselves and the militants to try and reduce the number of follow-up attacks in the region. If anything, however, Kulo have perhaps succeeded with their primary goal — putting themselves back on the map again.

Adrian Rozak nominated by Naprzód to run as presidential nominee for the 2021 general elections

Minister-President Adrian Rozak delivering his victory speech after nomination

CITY OF ŻOBRODŹ - At a Naprzód party conference today, Minister-President Adrian Rozak was nominated by delegates from the voivodial associations of Naprzód to be the party's presidential nominee for the 2021 general elections, defeating former Minister-President Oskar Palubicki 430 to 67 in the third round of voting.

Palubicki gained some support from the delegations representing the voivodeships of Święciżar and Żobrodź, albeit even in those two voivodeships, most delegates backed Minister-President Adrian Rozak's bid to run for the presidency, with all delegates in the rest of the voivodeships under Miersan control backing Adrian Rozak unanimously.

In his victory speech, Minister-President Adrian Rozak named 36-year old Jonatan Drozdowski as his running mate, with Rozak saying Drozdowski would "as per President Wrzesiński's wishes, Drozdowski would give Naprzód a breath of fresh air, and would allow for Naprzód to prove that it represents the interests of a young, vibrant Miersan nation." Rozak also said that "together, Naprzód will stand for what is right, what is just, and that is to align ourselves with Samorspi, with Etruria, and to defend traditional values from liberal ideologues."

Minister-President Adrian Rozak was joined by President Sylwester Wrzesiński, who congratulated Rozak "on his most excellent victory," and expressed "high confidence" in Rozak's ability to lead Naprzód in the upcoming general election, stating that "the working relationship that I had with the Minister-President has been instrumental in why we have been able to strengthen democracy in Miersa, and instrumental to the implementation of our agenda. I am confident Mr. Rozak will be able to lead the party to victory in September."

Oskar Palubicki wished Rozak "the best of luck" in leading Naprzód, saying that "I know that Naprzód is in safe hands [with Adrian Rozak], and I know he would protect and strengthen Miersan democracy." Palubicki also stated that "had we been a presidential republic [in the late 2000s/early 2010s], I reckon that Sobolewski's agenda would have gotten through without a hitch."

Chervona Coyotes shock Red Stars to win Novikov

Image
Sanzo Vukovenic laments the defeat of Red Stars in penalties.
Catherinsk

Today the Chervona Coyotes faced off against the Orlavo Red Stars, the current champions of the Vinalian Superliga, and last year's previous runner up, for the Novikov Cup. Although the Red Stars were seen as the favorites to win the match, the Coyotes were able to pull themselves together, and send the Red Stars packing for the 2nd straight year.

The Red Stars and Coyotes had similar pathways to the cup, the Coyotes perhaps a tougher one, as they faced the Tajinsk Mountain Lions from the 3rd division, while the Red Stars faced the Vulaninsk Bees from the 2nd division. What followed was Red Stars matches against the F.C. Orlavo, in the Orlavo Derby from the 2nd division, while the Coyotes faced against F.C. Velkarichka, in a thrilling offensive match that saw a record breaking 13 goals scored in both matches. For the Semifinals, the Red Stars faced the New Samistopol Sailors Club from the 2nd division, while the Coyotes encountered a fellow Superliga team in the Catherinsk Tigers. Although the Coyotes had proven a highly capable squad during the tournament and season finishing as runner ups, the Red Stars seemed the more capable team, as they had cruised through a superb Superliga season, and Novikov Cup. Both teams had fought during the season with split results, with the Coyotes taking the first game 1-0 while the Red Stars took the 2nd game 3-1. All in all, a thrilling match up was set to take place, with the winners of the last 4 Superligas.

The game got off on the wrong foot for the Coyotes, who in minute 10 allowed Mazur Burkala, the Superligas 2nd straight year leading goalscorer, an immaculate shot at the net of Zynovij Ruda. A thrilling shot from outside the box caught Ruda off balance who was unable to stop the thundering shot, setting the game 1-0. The Coyotes were quick to get back on their feet and delivered 15 minutes of relentless attack against the Red Stars, which were unable to clear the ball from their side. Such an attack was not stopped until a shot by McBrien made the post tremble, as did Red Stars keeper Zynovij Bilous. The rest of the half remained relatively calm, with the Coyotes struggling to kickstart the offensive that had tormented the Red Stars the previous 15 minutes. Both sides headed into the dressers with a 1-0 game.

Halftime entertainment was presented by Vinalian band A-Play, elected artist to represent the nation in the latest Euclovision song contest. A thrilling performance by A-Play closed the halftime entertainment as an army of grounds crew rushed to deconstruct the stage, to prepare the grounds for the game to restart. The game started soon after, with the Red Stars setting the tone for the rest of the match, as they tested Ruda and his footwork. The most dangerous of such tests was a shot by Sanzo Vukovenic which struck the left post, causing Ruda to give the net a hug and a kiss. The Red Stars threat would not stop however, as the Coyotes struggled to prepare a proper counter to the unrelenting Red Stars attack. Such a counter would come in the minute 76 when a seemingly innocent freekick found its way into Coyotes midfielder Mathias Schults head, who struck the ball past Bilous for the equalizer. Both sides settled into a calculated game as they sought to outmaneuver the other, the most dangerous of this was another Vukovenic push which saw him miss a pass by fellow teammate Vsevolod Sirenko for the go ahead goal in minute 88. Both sides settled for extra time with a score of 1-1.

The game entered extra time, with yet another Red Stars push at the start, seemingly an exact duplicate of the previous Vukovenic push, only a well placed Ruda was able to stop Vukovenics well placed redirected shot. The rest of the half remained relatively calm, as both sides tested the other with little progress to show for. Both sides entered into the extra time break, exhausted and with little to show for. The 2nd half of extra time would prove to be much more entertaining, the Red Stars were unable to replicate their successful rush at the start of the halfs, as the Coyotes sought to dominate the game from the start. Both sides continued testing each other throughout the half, a pass by Schult found the legs of Coyotes striker Oleksij Tsurkan who in a rare opportunity struck the ball, fortunately it found the leg of Red Stars defender Mykhajlo Borovyk who inadvertently allowed the ball to move past Bilous hands, giving the Coyotes a 2-1 lead at the minute 111. The lucky shot, found excitement and agony in the stadium, as Borovyk was seen visibly emotional by his mistake. The game resumed shortly after with a renewed Red Stars push, a desperate push, seeking to send the game to penalties with an equalizer. The Coyotes came close to securing the game at minute 117 when a McBrien shot from an intercepted pass barely missed the net of a malpositioned Bilous. The Red Stars rallied and returned the favor against the Coyotes, pushing hard and relentlessly. A lucky break came for the Red Stars when in injury time, a Vukovenic shot found itself past Ruda, sending the game into penalties with the equalizer.

It was decided that the Coyotes would be first to start the penalty kicks, the first such of its kind in the Novikov Cup Finals since 2009. Coyotes striker Oleksij Tsurkan, was the first to the field, who delivered a well placed shot to the side of Bilous, giving the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. What followed was a thrilling exchange of goals, Red Stars shooters Mazur Burkala, Sanzo Vukovenic, and Vsevolod Sirenko returned goals scored by Coyotes shooters Mathias Schult, Eduard Kovalchuk, and Heorhij Shcherbak, setting the game at 4-3. Both Ruda and Bilous looked hopeless at stopping the shots from such skilled cleats. A break came when Red Stars midfielder Leonid Havrylyuk placed a shot too far to the left, hitting the post, giving Coyotes striker Marcus McBrien the perfect opportunity to end the game. McBrien delivered a well placed shot to the right of Bilous, giving the Coyotes their 5th Novikov Cup.

Minister-President Omelyan Pavlov gave the trophy to Coyotes captain Eduard Kovalchuk, while the MVP was granted to Marcus McBrien, who ended the tournament with 6 goals. The Red Stars returned as they did last year empty handed, after an impressive season. A parade is planned to take place in Chervona the following week, as the Coyotes return to Chervona having found success in Catherinsk, Pavlov also extended an invitation to both teams to meet with him in the Minister-President's residence next month.
