After CR controversy, SWEN looks forward to new goal!

ANGELO, XANNERIA - After the abrupt and painfully disappointing end to the Copa Rushmori, the Southwest Eastnorth Pioneers/Frontiersmen were ready for a new challenge. The Copa Rushmori came to an end on a late 1-0 loss to Savojarnia in the last day of the prelims. A 90th minute score that in the aftermath saw an emotionally charged SWEN team throw out accusations of fixing between the Savojarnia team and the Tikariot team that made it to the Round of 16 playoffs when Southwest Eastnorth lost. Although none of these accusations were found true it still hurt the Southwest Eastnorth national team to the point they withdrew from the World Cup entry list soon after. Instead they opted to try a small "fun" tournament in Xanneria called the National instead and only a couple months removed from the Copa Rushmori incident, the Pioneers/Frontiersmen look to move on and work on a new challenge.

There now the team has made it to Xanneria, the small 12 team tournament sees them start off in Angelo, Angeles. Like many towns and cities in the northeastern sector of Xanneria, Angeles relies heavily on fishing and maritime trades as its main industry. It is also home to one of the biggest Submarine bases in Xanneria as the North Angeles Naval Base is another major player in the areas economic plans. As for Sports there are the Owls in Baseball, the Bobs (A local name for a Bobcat) in the PBL Basketball and of course this games host, Heart of the North Sports Club. Though the stadium only held 28 thousand or so spectators, it was filled up to at least 75% capacity. The Locals wanted to see how the foreigners would do and those foreigners went and gave the locals a show! In the end the game resulted in a 3-0 victory for Southwest Eastnorth, Chris Houton, ever the titan of Swennic football got two goals. The first came in minute 28 where he was able to get a nice kick around keeper Mohammed Marramzi whos dive attempt at the ball look spectacular but ultimately failed. Gorman Thomas also struck goal'd as the young man playing in Xanneria saw himself get a nice goal when he caught Marramzi out of position and snuck one by after Marramzi came up to defend against Houton who had the ball, but quickly would find Thomas. Houton's final goal actually was merely a nice looking header he got after out launching himself over Yousif Issou. Up next is a small nation called Miidel Feinger, a nation who pulled a huge upset by drawing powerful HUElavia 1-1.

Kaykali remains optimistic despite 3-0 drubbing

Adab national team manager Saad Kaykali says that he is still optimistic regarding the national team’s prospects following their 3-0 loss against Southwest Eastnorth at The National tournament in Xanneria.

Speaking at the press conference following the match, Kaykali reminded fans and critics that there are still at least four more matches to play in the competition.

“This is only the first match. We still have a long way to go,” Kaykali said after Ada Eridu of The Adab Times asked him about the team’s chances in the competition.

“We still have four games to look forward to. Losing once is not the end of everything. My players and I are in high spirits.

“Obviously we are determined to do better in the next match, but eventually it is the experience and playing time that matter the most to my players as we prepare for the World Cup.”

Kaykali also denied reports of disputes between players in the squad and asserted that the team is united and able to work together.

“I don’t know where these reports come from, but I do know that they’re not worth paying attention to. Squad harmony is at an all-time high and there is a strong bond between the players,” the Adab manager said.

The Adabians put on a competent performance throughout the match, which was held at the Performance Auto Parts – Kingsley Stadium at Angeles, Xanneria, but nevertheless visibly struggled to contain the more experienced Southwest Eastnorth side.

The Adabians eventually tired under the constant pressing from Southwest Eastnorth and Chris Houton netted for the opponents in the 28th minute, with the ball just barely evading Adabian keeper Mohammed Marramzi’s dive on its way to the net. Gorman Thurman IV then added another goal for Southwest Eastnorth in the 43rd minute, putting his team up 2-0 by half time.

Although Adab shifted to a more defensive approach for the second half, at times resorting to a 7-3-0 formation as the opposing side came dangerously close to the goal, they could not prevent Southwest Eastnorth great Houton from finding the net again in the 65th minute.

This loss left Adab in fifth position in Group B, just above Pyazhnaya in last place by virtue of goal difference. Geektopia currently leads the group following their 5-0 victory over Pyazhnaya, beating Southwest Eastnorth to first place once again thanks to goal difference.

The National is a tournament hosted by Xanneria’s National Brewering company. Twelve teams participate this year, divided into two groups of six.

“Overall, I think we could’ve done a bit better that we did, this is our first big league game and we need to do better if we are to win this” says goalkeeper Vukasin Krall. “If we did this on our own turf we would’ve thrashed them!” Said the coach as well. Otherwise not much happened, because not much happens with a draw over where we are.

The National Team Begins The National With A Win

ARLO, WEST TROY - The Oberour Ar Moro National Team began The National tournament in Xanneria with a solid defensive effort to defeat Sylestone.

On offense, Taran Bele scored the match's only goal in the 66th minute. Laurens Desainctvictori, who plays his regular football in Xannoria, kept a clean sheet in goal throughout the game. Sylestone played a defensive style against the Dragoons, and attempted to use their advantages in size to soak up the Oberour attack. This bend-but-not-break style worked for swaths of the game, but ultimately the Dragoons were able to break through Sylestone's brick wall of a defense.

This was Oberour Ar Moro's second match against Sylestone in five. In a friendly, Oberour Ar Moro drew at the Sentient Oval in Kirkham. "I do think it was a huge help," said Drev Brébeuf, sweeper and team captain. "We get out on the pitch and suddenly we have a plan."

The Dragoons' next match is against fellow Rushmore nation Nyowani Kitara, seeking to improve their fortunes after a matchday one loss to tournament hosts Xanneria.

Our second game has really split the team. On one hand, we didn’t lose and we scored 5 goals. However, it was stil another draw, and some fans have called us a lost cause

Noel is now rather annoyed, and may not like staying for the team much longer, but Vukasin Krall continually says if he wasn’t out by 2 minutes, they could’ve won easy.

Adab achieves first victory in The National with Yissakar goal

Rebekah Yissakar scored with a magnificent header in the 80th minute against Pyazhnaya to give Adab its first victory in Xanneria’s The National competition in an otherwise rather uneventful match.

Adab entered EEUFCU McAnally Stadium sitting in fifth place in Group B and were clearly eager to taste victory and improve their placing.

However, facing off against football minnows Pyazhnaya in what appeared to be their first international competition, the Adabians started slowly and, indeed, seemed to be on the back foot in the first minutes of the match as the Pyazhnayans launched attacks on the Adabian side of the pitch.

Larisa Nekrestyanova very nearly netted for the opposing side in the 24th minute, but her shot was parried away by goalkeeper Mohammed Marramzi.

The Pyazhnayans failed to follow up on this momentum, however, and as the first half dragged on their attacks appeared to run out of steam and both teams settled on a slower pace of play as the Adabians adjusted to their opponents’ 4-3-3 formation.

Adab began the second half with the ball but, though they ran back and forth across the pitch with it, rarely came close to their opponents’ goal, partly thanks to Pyazhnaya’s competent defending and partly because the Adabians were hoping to make their opponents run to the point of exhaustion.

The Adabians themselves defended efficiently in the second half, with the trio of Alulim Sinmuballit, Emma Arthur, and Ephraim Orlev presenting a formidable wall in the midfield which prevented the Pyazhnayans from advancing too far and ensured that the ball remained in Adabian hands.

An opportunity finally presented itself in the 80th minute, as a disorganized Pyazhnayan attack resulted in the ball being wrested away by Jushur al-Kufa, who ran virtually unopposed through Pyazhnaya’s right wing.

Al-Kufa kicked the ball to his right, sending it flashing past striker Enlilbani Yargab – who appeared to be the intended recipient of the ball – but luckily Rebekah Yissakar was there to smash the ball with a header past Pyazhnaya keeper Fedor Ivashin and score the only goal of the night.

This victory took the Adabians to third place in Group B, with one win and one loss. Pyazhnaya sits at the very bottom, at sixth place, having lost both of their matches so far.

Adab in eventful draw against Miidel Feinger

Adab managed to salvage a draw in their latest match in The National against Miidel Feinger with a competent performance which nevertheless exposed their vulnerability to counterattacks.

Adab went into match placing third in Group B and hoping that a victory against Miidel Feinger would raise them to second place.

Both teams espoused an attacking style of play which was evident throughout the match. It made for an entertaining spectacle but also exposed Adab’s woeful response to counterattacks.

Adab started the match with the ball and immediately applied pressure on the opposing side, launching attack after attack in an attempt to destabilize Miidel Feinger’s defense and exhaust their opponents.

Yet while Miidel Feinger’s defenders were visibly unnerved by the Adabian attacks, goalkeeper Cyneheard managed to keep his composure throughout the course of the match, saving several shots by Enlilbani Yargab and Rebekah Yissakar.

With their attacks proving fruitless, the Adabians seemed on the verge of running out of steam thirty minutes into the match and had no answer for the sudden counterattack spearheaded by Jon Relniak IV in the 35th minute.

The Adabian defenders had advanced too far to the front and soon found themselves having to rush back as Relniak raced for the goal with virtually no opposition. The defenders could not catch Relniak in time and stood helplessly as he sent the ball flying into Mohammed Marramzi’s net.

This seemed to spur the Adabians forward. Enlilbani Yargab led a charge on the Miidel Feinger goal in the 44th minute, but at the last moment brilliantly passed the ball to Jushur al-Kufa, who smashed the ball past a disoriented Cyneheard and into the net.

The early part of the second half saw both sides playing more cautious football, marked by short passes among players of the same side, waiting for a chance to open up to reestablish their lead.

The game again picked up pace in its final twenty minutes, and Erland Paxton added to Miidel Feinger’s goal tally in the 74th minute after Adab defender Tansu Altun nearly slipped trying to wrest the ball away from him.

The Adabians refused to go down in defeat, however, and winger Yissakar scored the final goal of the night in the 85th minute to level the score at 2-2.

With this draw, Adab remained in third place in Group B with four points, beaten to second place by Southwest Eastnorth on goal difference. Miidel Feinger is fourth with three points.

At this point, it seems we are becoming a running gag of getting one point. Yves Noel is now furious, but honestly the best we have so we can’t fire him. It would not necessarily be, let’s say, news friendly to type out. But hey, it’s better than a loss... but still no win. 0-3-0, what a record.

First match: A one-nil victory over Sylestone. Second match: A one-nil victory over Nyowani Kitara. Third match: A four-nil match over The Koskr. Two matches where the Dragoons struggled to score, and then finally the offense let loose.

Even while Taran Bele and Ruran l’Ermite were scoring braces, it was difficult to not sneak peeks ahead to their forthcoming match against Xanneria. Of course, Xanneria is the host of The National, so every one of their games are a home game. Further, Xanneria needs to win if they want any chance to compete for the championship of their own tournament. This forthcoming match might be Xanneria's last chance to climb into contention.

Xanneria needs to win, but Oberour Ar Moro needs to win as well. The Dragoons need to match Ethane blow for blow in Group A. Oberour is a 3-0-0 team with a +6 goal differential. And yet Ethane is a 3-0-0 team with a +10 goal differential. If Ethane can defeat fourth placed Sylestone, Oberour Ar Moro will need to defeat Xanneria just to have an opportunity to defeat Ethane to advance to The National's gold medal match.

Adab second in Group B following Geektopia win but Kaykali remains cautious

Adab rose to second place in Group B of Xanneria’s The National tournament with a 0-2 victory over Geektopia, but manager Saad Kaykali has urged his players to “stay vigilant” and that qualification for the placement games is “not yet certain”.

Kaykali praised his players tor their “energy and action” during the match, but also cautioned them that “the fight is far from over”.

“We still have another match in our group against HUELavia, who are tough opponents and must not be underestimated,” the Adab manager said in the post-match press conference.

“We must not underestimate anyone. We will do our best and fight until the end of the match.”

The match at Northshore CTC Hi-Line Stadium started strongly with attacking play on both sides, although eventually it was Adab who gained the upper hand, with Enlilbani Yargab barging past a slew of Geektopian defenders and blasting the ball to the roof of the net in the 7th minute.

Ephraim Orlev added to the Adabians’ goal tally in the 19th minute, receiving the ball from Yargab who had dropped deep towards the midfield and zigzagging away from a series of Geektopian players who had converged on him before shooting it past Geektopian keeper Bguya Gucaar.

Following the early flurry of goals, however, the Adabians shifted to a more defensive tactic and attacked the opposing side with less regularity, and the game took on a noticeably slower pace.

Manager Kaykali has been open about intending to preserve his players’ energy for the match against HUELavia, and the change in tactics may be attributed to this.

During the second half, the Geektopians made regular inroads onto the other side of the pitch in an attempt to erase their deficit, but could not get past the tight wall of Adabian defenders Shania Enmerkar, Yousif Issou, and Tansu Altun.

Lejura Famakcu nearly scored for the opposing side in the 87th minute, but the ball was booted away by Enmerkar just inside the penalty area. The two early goals ended up being the only ones of the night.

Adab is now second in Group B with seven points, separated from Geektopia in first place only on goal difference. Their next match against HUELavia will be the final group stage match. HUELavia sits in fourth place with five points.

The National is a tournament hosted by Xanneria’s National Brewering company. Twelve teams participate this year, divided into two groups of six.
