Honestly the news of his death gave me no real emotional reaction. Don't really care either way. He was a racist piece of shit and a general asshole. And I couldn't give two shits about Monarchy's. The more collapsing monarchies the better. He also oversaw one of the most imperialist eras of Britain, so again...don't really care. We broke away from them for a reason.

Please, do post more about how little you care. I don't think your post was long enough- I need to see a wall of text and sources detailing your apathy. I will also endeavour to post in memorial threads about people who I know very little about.

Let's just say that Prince Philip was a man who had outlived the times that celebrated him, and then managed to survive the times that reviled him, only to live out his life in times that anticipated how they would like to remember him.

On the one hand, he is 99 years old and recently sick, so it's not a surprise but on the other hand, i guess I figured he' live longer. My biggest concern is for the Queen; Philip has been with her for over 70 years, for the entire time she's been queen, as her partner and confidante; losing a spouse is life-changing, no matter who you are. I just hope she comes out of it alright.

It's always strange to me how people make entire posts just to say how much they don't care about something. Maybe it's just me, but when I don't care about a topic, I just pass it by completely and find a topic that does interest. To me, the fact that you feel the need to say anything means you do care on some level.

Niece? Hardly; they were distant cousins and not even raised together as cousins. Also, if I remember correctly, Philip didn't romance her the first time that met; Elizabeth was the one who had a crush on him and the two of them started corresponding through letters. Either way, though, people often married younger back, so the age difference probbly wasn't that big a deal.
