ISLAND OF THE LOST - 1
Elena Arreola (80' pen)

It was just a few days before the start of the new season. After the incident in the training ground between Velma Shipley, Helga Williams, and Breanna Buckingham, the Cote de Facilier Barons were still looking for players who could fill in the gap that the injured Helga Williams had left behind. The manager of the academy team had already floated the possibility of Betty Henderson being promoted to the senior team at just 18 years old to play striker even though she was more of an attacking midfielder. Her father Alaric, who also happened to be the Barons' new manager, had vetoed the idea as soon as it was suggested to him, saying that Betty was still too young to play regularly in the league. But with time running out for the team to register a new striker in time before the transfer window shuts, it looks like Alaric might have no choice.

It was a new morning dawning over Cote de Facilier. I could smell the salty air coming from the sea just outside my apartment. For once, I woke up happy, and that was because I had managed to avoid a single drop of alcohol last night for the first time in my life since I was introduced to drinking. For the first time since I joined Cote de Facilier, I was going to go to the training center completely and utterly sober. That merited a celebration, I thought to myself. Coffee, of course.

I had just finished setting my coffee machine up when I heard a knock on the door. "Who is it?" I asked as I walked towards the door.

"Open up!" someone, a man by the sound of his voice, demanded from the other side. "Open up or else!"

"Or else what?" I asked, suddenly very wary and nervous. I had been planning on installing a sliding lock on my door for months, ever since a string of robberies happened in my general neighborhood, but my budget for the lock always got spent on booze. I was now wishing I had found a time to get the lock installed before this. I dared not open the door in fear of what could possibly happen to me if I did.

I heard another voice outside my door say something that I couldn't make out, and then the voice of the man knocking on my door said, "You know what, forget it. Just tell your friend Betty that the Cliffies want to talk to her about the bad bang she sold us last time."

What? What the hell was this guy talking about? I still didn't dare open the door for some time, but I did chance a peek through my window to see if I could see who exactly it was that had knocked on my door. I looked around (the view from my front window wasn't that good) and saw nobody on the street. Nobody was waiting in front of my door, nobody was walking down the street. But I still didn't feel safe. How in the world did they know where I lived? And what the fuck did Betty Henderson have to do with this? She was the only Betty I knew, and I don't think she knows any other Helen either. And the Cliffies? What the fuck were they doing here in Cote de Facilier? And what was this shit about her selling them some... what was it they said again? "Bad bang"? What in the actual fuck did they mean by that? Could they be talking about drugs? Was Betty Henderson selling drugs? What else was that girl doing behind everyone's back that no one else knew about? I had to get to the bottom of this. I just knew I had to.

I went out of my house and walked towards the training ground as soon as I felt that it was safe to do so. I knew I had to hurry up because I needed to talk to Betty like, right now. But the training ground was a bit far away from my place so I couldn't just run there. I did start brisk walking though, and I think I was there within thirty or forty minutes. As soon as I got to the training ground, I yelled out, "Henderson!" If you wanted to talk to a player then you called out their surname.

Betty was off chatting with some of her friends, so when I called out her name they were all like "Ooh, you're in trouble now!" If only they knew how serious the situation actually was.

"Wassup?" Betty asked as she walked up to me.

"Betty, there's something that I need to tell you," I said. "In private."

My face must have betrayed my emotions because Betty immediately turned serious. I led her towards the other side of the training pitch we were using, and then I told her everything about what had happened to me earlier in the morning. When I got to the part about those guys wanting to talk to her about something bad that she sold to them, Betty's eyes almost popped out of their sockets. "Shit! Fuck!" she said as she began looking around for signs that those same people might here at the training ground now.

"Is there something you're not telling me, Bethany?" I asked.

"Shit, shit, shit!" Betty continued to say. This must really have her worried if she didn't even pick up on me using her full name. "Listen, Helen, I can explain everything to you, I really can. But you gotta promise me that you won't tell anyone else. Especially not my dad. Nobody can know about this, and I mean nobody! Promise?"

"Sure, I promise," I nodded.

"You know that I'm good at chemistry, right?" Betty asked me.

"How would I know? I didn't go to the same school you did," I replied.

"Anyway, so one day, back in ninth grade this new kid from Ratcliffe Town, this Irish boy, can't remember what his name was, Fingal or Finnegan or whatever, during chemistry class he comes over to me and asks me if I could do this formula that he just made up. I say okay, and it turns out that that formula is for fucking crystal! I have no idea how nobody noticed the freaking meth lab that suddenly appeared in our high school chemistry lab. Anyway, long story short, this Irish guy is actually tight with the Cliffies, and they've been buying stuff from me ever since."

"Jesu Christ!" I muttered. "Do you realize what you've just done? The fucking Cliffies are one of the most notorious gangs on the island, and you're telling me that they're here in La Cote? And you just sold them bad drugs?"

"Shh! Keep it down, will you!?" Betty said. "And I didn't know the batch I sold them was bad! I checked the formula myself before I started making it. I don't know what could have gone wrong with it... Shit! I gotta make some calls, I gotta tell somebody it wasn't my fault, and I didn't mean it... Helen! You've got your bike with you, right?"

"Bitch, I was so scared when those guys knocked on my door that I forgot I had a motorcycle," I said.

"Okay, whatever," Betty waved off. "I'm just gonna come down to your place after training to borrow it, okay?"

"Borrow? Why would you want to borrow my bike?"

"I'm going to Ratcliffe Town," Betty replied. "I have to talk to these guys, let them know I didn't mean to sell them a bad batch."

"Like hell you're not," I said immediately. "You're not borrowing my bike. No way. I'm coming with you."

"Helen, no!" Betty said. "I'm not gonna let you come with me to Ratcliffe Town! You know how the Cliffies are!"

"Exactly. And that's why I'm coming with you," I retorted. "You're just an 18-year-old girl, Betty! There's no telling what can happen to you if you go there alone. I'm coming with you to sort this out, Bethany, and that's final."

Betty gave it some thought for a long moment, and then she finally nodded. "All right, fine," she said. "After training, we go to Ratcliffe Town."

Black Leopards Football Club

Image

Black Leopards FC is a Ziwana football club that played in the AmaZiwana top tier. The club is considered one of the Ziwana top 8 and is an inspiration for youths all around Ziwana to think big and strive to be future football stars. The club was founded in Zibaba, AmaZanga in 1933 by the children of migrant workers who worked in the coal mines. Boys in Zibaba would gather around at every opportunity and play football against each other. In the beginning the football Club was known as Zibaba Boys Clubs. In 1937 a school teacher at Zibaba Community Day Secondary School, T'Challa Boseman with his money bought the first team their first ever kits. This kits were black and yellow. Because of the black and yellow kits, Zibaba Boys Club begun to be affectionately called the Leopards. In 1940 Zibaba Boys Club became semi-professional and was renamed Association Football Club Leopards. In 1942 T'Challa Boseman became club Chairman and soon after won the Ziwana Lottery which he used to purchase land and begun building the first stadium for the club. The 1000 capacity stadium was completed the same year and was named Boseman Park. In 1956 the club went into administration and the ground was sold to the city council to save the club. In 1967 T'Challa Boseman who had stepped down several years earlier as Chairman returned to the club as Director of Football and in that year AFC Leopards won their first top tier title. Because of their dark horse status that season people begun to call them Black Leopards. The name sticked and the next season they were renamed Black Leopards Football Club. In the space of 7 years between 1967 and 1973, Black leopards won the Ziwana top tier 4 teams developing rivalries with Western United and Red Falcons. These 7 years furthermore established the side as a title challenger and one of the best teams in Ziwana. In 1974 T'Challa Boseman died and was remembered in a much which Black Leopards defeated Red Falcons 6-2. In 1991 Black Leopards won the Ziwana top tier two years in a row. In 2002 Black Leopards were relaated for the first time from the top tier since they had being promoted in 1963. However they were promoted in 2003 before being relagated again in 2004. In the 2018/2019 season Black Leopards were promoted once again and after one season in the top tier won the Ziwana top tier since 1991. Although Black Leopards have are seen as part of the top tier they have not being consistent in their performances and are predicted to fail getting into the top tier.

WESTERN UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

Image

On June 11 1917, workers from Chimina Shipbuilding a subsidiary of Chimina Group met at Chikondi Pub in Teuila, Salamasina State. At the Pub Western United Football Club was founded as East Mbera Workers Football Club. The men were migrants from Mbera Town in Birnin Likulu. The name East Mbera referred to the slums that the workers had built when they arrived in Teuila. The Teuilans did not welcome the workers and were hostile to them. In the first year of it’s founding the club members mostly played amongst themselves but sometimes played with Chimina Sporting Club which later became Teuila City FC. During the Independence War, East Mbera Workers Football Club members led a revolt in Western Teuila to overthrow the Britannian Colonialists. The bravery of the workers earned them respect from Teuilans in the West as such more members joined East Mbera Workers FC. The club was renamed Western United in 1919 to reflect the unity between West Teuilans and the migrant workers. In 1921 Western United was a founding member of the Liga Malicky. The club was the most supported in the Liga Malicky with attendances reaching 14000 people at the time.
In the early years of the Liga Malicky the rivalry between Teuila City and Western United was very heated. This was due to the fact that Western United associated itself with socialist values and Teuila City FC which was owned by Chimina Group which was a capitalist enterprise that had subjected the founding members to harsh working conditions. The derbies between the two sides were lively indeed and several times fights broke out with 23 people dying in 1924 the year Teuila City beat Western United to win the league. The loss against Teuila City really motivated Western United and the next season in 1925 the club won its first title. In the following years Western United suffered due to financial mismanagement and bad luck. Between 1931 and 1933 Western United failed to overcome the dominant Red Falcons. A new rivalry begun between the two clubs especially since Teuila City had been relegated a view years prior.
In 1935 Western United won their first title in 10 years and for the next 2 years dominated the Liga Malicky winning it three years in a row. Western United was able to dominate the league due to the talented youth that had been developed by Tamaria Football Academy which the club bought. The relationship between Tamaria Football Academy and Western United ended in 1938 after the Academy became professional. The golden generation which had been natured by Tamaria Football Academy struggled after this but due to the coaching of Kondwani Phiri, Western United was back to dominating in the early 40s when they once again won the league 3 years in a row. However Western United faced more challenges when the Royal family bank rolled the big Birnin Likulu clubs, Ainsworth Barracks, Birnin Select and Birnin Alamalaki (present day Birnin AmaNgwazi). For the next 9 years Birnin teams won the Liga Malicky 8 times. Hatred between Western United and the Birnin teams developed especially with Birnin Almalaki. In the 50s and 60s the competition between Birnin Almalaki and Western United was very stiff. Between 1950 and 1965 Birnin Almalaki and Western United both won the Liga Malicky 7 times each. The years 1950 and 1965 were called the classic years in which the AmaZiwana Classico begun. These years exhausted the two teams financially as they both tried to be better than each other paving the way for other members of the Ziwana top 8 such as ECOA, Black Leopards and Red Falcons to dominate between 1966 and 1991. Western United and its rival Birnin Almalaki still managed to win a couple of Liga Malickys but were not as dominate as in the past. In this 25 years Western United won the top tier only 6 times. In these 25 years Western United suffered several scandals with the most notable being the Teuila Yacht Massacre, when Chairman candidate Taika Manuiri had his fellow chairmen elections candidates massacred in a yacht.
In the 90s and early 2000s whilst its rival Birnin Alamalaki dominated winning the Liga Malicky 7 times, Western United managed to only win it 2 times frequently battling against relegation. To make matters worse Western United in 1992 had once more lost the Liga Malicky on the final day to Teuila City happened in 1924. Between 2002 and 2006 Western United were back to being dominant, winning the Liga Malicky 4 out of 5 times. After 2006 Western United has only won the Liga Malicky 2 times out of 15 seasons. With growing budgets as more money flows into the game and the many debts Western United has, the greatest football club in Ziwana is predicated to struggle in the next few years. However, there is still hope for the club as they have been selected to participate in the multi-association league SULOMA. With the money and sponsors Western United executives plan on having two Western United sides one in the SULOMA and the other in the new Ziwana Football League. The two sides combined revenue is set to help Western United not only dominate domestic football again but the SULOMA as well. This is indeed a club to watch out.

(OOC: I had to use Choudal's roster from MAC 6 for their goalscorers. I hope that that's fine.)

ISLAND OF THE LOST - 3
Devin Randall (18')
Ryan Fonseca (90')
Qamar Nagi (108')

CHOUDAL - 2
Donald Long (23')
Greg Cox (55')

I woke up to a familiar headache in an unfamiliar bed. The sun shone straight at my face from the only window in the room, compounding the pounding in my head even further. I literally stumbled out of the bed to draw the curtain across the window, and eventually I was able to do that, but not before the light turned the pounding in my head into a raging thumping.

The memories of last night's events took their sweet time returning to me, but eventually I remembered not only where I was and why I was here. After training was finally over, Betty Henderson went with me back to my home, and then we took my motorcycle over to Ratcliffe Town, which was seventy miles away from Cote de Facilier. We got to Ratcliffe around maybe nine in the evening, and Betty said that this might take all night so maybe we should find a place to crash. There was this motel just inside the city limits, and Betty said that this was place was as good as any, so we went there. Unfortunately there was only one room left, and it only had a single bed as well. I was about to just say forget it and suggest to Betty that we go somewhere else, but she said she was fine with it, so there.

We then went to this place, I think it was a pub of some sort, because Betty said that this is where she needs to talk with the Cliffies. While waiting she asked me if I wanted to try out a local beer. I said no, because I was trying to keep myself on the wagon, but she insisted, even just one sip. Clearly I went beyond just one sip because I've got the headache to prove it, and the fact that I was still wearing the clothes that I had on the night before.

"Betty?" I called out. "Betty! Are you here?" I turned around and saw that her side of the bed was empty. "Betty?" I asked as I went to the bathroom and knocked on the door, only to see that it was unoccupied. "Betty! Girl, where are you?"

I then looked outside our motel room and saw that my motorcycle was gone as well. "The fuck?" I muttered as I tried to reconstruct what could have happened while I was drunk. Could she really have done it? Could Bethany Henderson really have left me behind in Ratcliffe Town and taken my bike with her? "Goddamn it, Bethany, what the fuck are you doing now?" I asked the thin air.

I immediately took out my phone and called my adoptive father. "Hey, Joseph? It's Helen," I said. "Can you help me out? I just found myself in a, um, situation, and now I'm in Ratcliffe Town and I don't have a ride back home."

"Ratcliffe Town? What in the world are you doing in Ratcliffe Town?" asked Joseph Saint-Marie. "And what do you mean you don't have a ride back home?"

"It's a long story, Joseph," I replied. "I don't want to talk about it, not over the phone at least. Can you come and pick me up?"

I could hear Joseph sighing at the other end. "I just got to the hospital, Helen," he said. "Did you know that? All right, fine. I think I can afford to be late just this once. Where did you say you were in Ratcliffe Town again?"

I gave Joseph the name of the motel and the room number where Betty and I were supposed to stay the night. "All right, Helen. Just stay put there, don't go anywhere. Got that?"

"Yeah, yeah, got it," I nodded, and then I ended the call. Not that there was anywhere for me to go to in Ratcliffe Town. Also, I still had this splitting hangover-induced headache to deal with. Surprising how it almost disappeared while I was trying to deal with what Betty had just done to me, but now that I had calmed myself down a little, it returned with a vengeance. There was only one thing I knew that I could do after this, and that was to go back to bed and hope that this headache disappears by the time Joseph arrives here.

I was awoken again by the honking of a car horn outside. I peeked out and saw Joseph Saint-Marie in his black sedan. I waved at him and he waved back. I returned the key to the receptionist, and then I got into Joseph's car. "Would you like to talk about the thing you didn't want to talk about on the phone now, Helen?" Joseph asked as he drove out of the motel's parking lot.

"Ugh," I said. "Honestly, Joseph, I don't know where to start. Really. Also, Betty made me promise not to say anything about this to anyone else."

"Try me," Joseph said.

"Okay." I took a deep breath, and then I told Joseph the story of how these strangers, most likely some Cliffies, knocked on my door to send a message to Betty about selling them bad drugs, and how this led to Betty borrowing my bike and me telling her that I was coming with her because I wouldn't let her do this alone. Throughout all this, Joseph merely nodded his head silently while he listened to my story. And when I was done, he remained quiet while we drove down the Coastal Highway back to Cote de Facilier. Finally, he opened his mouth to speak, but all he said was, "This friend of yours, Betty, turns out she lives quite the interesting life, doesn't she?"

"Yeah, I know," I nodded. "Now I wish I never knew her life was like this."

"Mm-hmm," Joseph nodded back.

"Hey, Joseph, can we stop by my place before we go to the training ground?" I asked. "I know what I'm hoping for is a long shot, but I just wanna see something."

"Of course we can, Helen," Joseph said. "Although I have the feeling that this long shot you're talking about has nothing to do with us stopping over at your place first."

"I know, Dad," I said. "I just want to check on something."

We got to my place, and to my own surprise, I saw my bike parked just outside. I mean, I was hoping that I would see my bike there, but I wasn't expecting to actually see it, you know what I mean? "At least Betty returns the things she's borrowed from you," Joseph muttered.

"Yeah, about that," I said. "I'm not gonna be fine until I see Betty in the flesh."

Joseph then drove me to the training ground, where I was surprised to see quite a few people hanging around. Some of these people had actual TV cameras while others had microphones and press badges on them. "Ooh, looks like Alaric finally managed to convince someone to go to La Cote," Joseph said.

"Yeah," I nodded. "I wonder who it is?"

Adieu Bunian!

Southern Palm Islands have reached the finals of CMFA Melayu Archipelago Cup 7. It's a time for the nation to celebrate as well as to weep. The Final gifts the nation a sweet and a sour memory. Southern Palm Island's All-time best coach Mr Sembara Bunian leaves the national team camp towards a better career. Sembara Bunian is an Eraman Born Football Coach, who has trained various clubs in Eraman and also the national team of Eraman. The Nation is weeping when the coach who treated them as a father is departing towards his dreams. 1000s of palmyrans get together in city squares to wish Bunian all the best. They fly the Southern Palm Islands and the flag of Eraman and dresses in shirts having Sembara Bunian's Image. The new coach met the old coach at the team camp and wished each other all the best. The new coach is Jamu Ouattara from Banija.

Jamu Ouattara
Nationality: Banija
Age: 51
Sex: Male
Style Mod: +1.5
Favourite Formation: 4-4-2
Coaching Experience: Kabakono City for 2 years
Umbazi Metropolitan SC for 5 years
Combined Banija-Farfadillis Team
Remarks: Kabakono City is one of the strongest clubs in Banija's then 2nd tier, the regional leagues. He brought the team on the cup of promotion.
Umbazi Metropolitan is a first-tier club, he was working with poor resources, but he fought to get them out of the relegation battle and make them a mid-table club. He was successful at that for four years and was doing a decent job.
When ten sides of Banija joined with the ten sides of Farfadillis, Umbazi met against them. Unfortunately, the increased level of play was too much for Umbazi, and an embarrassing loss to the last-place team in the league (La Querida) got him fired with relegation all but guaranteed.

"Helen! You're just in time," my fellow assistant coach Bernard Atlee said once I got into the training ground. "You're never going to believe who Alaric just convinced to play for us."

"Yeah, who is it?" I asked back.

"Just a certain lass named Elena Arreola," Atlee replied.

"Wait, what? Elena Arreola? Are you serious?"

"Yes, I am serious," Atlee nodded with a completely straight face.

"We're talking about the same Elena Arreola here, right? The one from Playa del Mal?"

"Yes, the one and the same."

"But isn't she, like, the Royals' star striker?" I asked.

"She was," Atlee replied. "But I guess their new management favours Ryan Fonseca more to get them the title this season."

"So what's she doing here? We're the bottom club of the league last year, why would Arreola want to go here?"

"Apparently Alaric was able to convince her of his project to bring us back to relevance," Atlee shrugged. "It's just a season-long loan deal, sure, but can you just imagine it? Elena Arreola, playing up top for the Cote de Facilier Barons? Maybe getting into the middle of the table has become a possibility now."

"Yeah, I can just imagine," I muttered. "Listen, Bernie, have you by any chance seen Betty come in today?"

"Nope, sorry, haven't seen her," Atlee shook his head.

"Okay, thanks anyway," I said. I then went inside the club building to see if I could find Betty, or at least someone who saw her. Over in the other training pitch that we had, the one the players were using while Alaric Henderson was busy announcing Elena Arreola's arrival, I walked up to the club captain to ask him about Betty.

"Nope, haven't seen her, Helen," Randall Newton replied. "Actually, I was just about to ask you the same thing because didn't Betty go with you after training?"

"Yeah, I know," I nodded. "Betty went with me because she wanted to borrow... something, and then after that she bounced, and now I don't know where she is. Are you sure she hasn't turned up today?"

"Trust me, Helen, nobody gets in and out of this place without me knowing about it," Randall said with a wink.

"Uh-huh," I nodded. As I walked back inside the building, I didn't know if I should actually be worried or not. What happened to Betty? Obviously she decided to dump me in the motel so I couldn't come with her when she went to talk with the Cliffies, but what happened to her after that? Did the Cliffies let her go, and she just left me behind in the motel to bring the bike back home? What if it was the Cliffies who brought my bike back? They already knew where I lived, and they surely must have seen it parked outside when they paid me a visit. But why would they even bring it back if it was them that did it? They could have just chopped it up for parts or sold it to whomever, so could the mere fact that my bike was back in my house be a sign that Betty had survived her "talk" with the Cliffies?

I heard footsteps behind me, and when I turned around, sure enough it was Betty Henderson walking into the training ground as if nothing had happened. I don't know what came over me, I just ran over to her and embraced her. "Betty! Merci a Dieu! You're alive!" I said.

"Um, yeah, I'm still alive," she said. "Okay, you can let go now. I can't breathe, Helen!"

"Oh, shit, sorry!" I said as I let go of her. "I'm just glad to see you, Betty! You have no idea how worried I was about you!"

"Really?" Betty asked. "Look, Helen, you don't have anything to worry about now. Like I said, I talked to... our new friends, you know them, right? I talked to them and there's nothing for me to worry about now. I told them what happened and that it's not my fault. Not my fault at all. If I knew what I'd sold them I'd never have let them take it."

"You sure about that?" I asked her. When Betty nodded, I sighed and said, "Jesu Christ! Don't make me worry about you like that again, okay?"

"Okay, Helen, I promise," Betty nodded.

RED FALCONS FOOTBALL CLUB

Image

Red Falcons Football Club was founded in 1921 by Zahir Hunting Club members Mohamed Alahaji, Ibrahim Yusuf and Chikumbutso Bandawe. The club started as a social football club for nobles and rich people in Ziwana. It was a founding member of the Liga Malicky and in its first years struggled against other teams due to failing to compete against former colonial military teams and other company sponsored teams. Red Falcons also struggled with attracting fans to its stands. In 1928 Red Falcons opened up its membership to everyone and marketed itself as the boys club. In 1929, former Ainheim Dynamos coach, Gary Wilder was made Red Falcons manager. Gary Wilder in line with Red Falcons Boys Club moniker, formed a scouting network all around Ziwana to identify talent. The talented boys came from impoverished areas and were given accommodation and coached to reach their potential. Scouting lower class players played off, for 3 years in 1931, 1932 and 1933 Red Falcons won the Liga Malciky. This lead to an increase in fans in the stands as the wanted to see the beautiful football being played by club and others wanted to see the boys who came from the streets dominating the Liga Malicky.
Although Red Falcons had been founded by the rich, the 1929 Ziwana financial collapse led to the 3 founders companies being affected. The 3 founding members and other nobles stepped down. The club continued to be operated as a member owned club. In 1934 the club could no longer sustain itself and went into administration. The Zahir City Council and other Red Falcons fans formed a consortium and bought the club and its debts to save the club. The club was however not the same and struggled throughout the years. In 1957 Mohamed Alahaji II bought Red Falcons making the club competitive again. However, it was still difficult to topple Western United and Birnin AmaNgwazi. Over the years Red Falcons has established itself as part of Ziwana’s big three by winning the Liga Malicky 8 more times with some of the trophies being won in consecutive years. Red Falcons were in the Liga Kaifa 1, Ziwana’s second tier before the RZFL was suspended. Red Falcons are a strong contender to make it into the Ziwanicell Premiership.
