The forest was alight with the song of nature as birds of the night hooting and bugs chirping out their mating sound. A steady gust of wind made the branches of the trees gently sway, rustling together leaves. Moonlight, silver in color, beamed down in a clearing of small size, illuminating the area to a minor effect. Enough so that the armored warriors nearby were able to stand watch vigilantly.
These armored sentinels of the forest were Grey Wardens, knights of valor and courage, hunters of the blight and all those who aided it. Among their ranks were some of their most decorated warriors in the land. And they stood in a silent vigil over that clearing, hiding away behind the brush and trees so that their metal armor would be hidden from view.
A complete stillness in the forest snapped them into attention, the small group becoming acutely aware of the sudden change. No longer did the forest sing a song of beautiful nature and its gifts, instead there were only the screams of silence. Their number grew tense in anticipation. The faint footsteps and the cracking of small sticks that littered the forest floor were the only warnings of the arrival of their quarry.
They were immaculate beings, ones of beautiful form and an elegant grace. Dressed in dresses of colored lilies, some white and some red, they were the pinnacle of otherworldly beauty. Each step they took was deft, every movement they made was majestic yet unreal. Their very existence was jarring. Amongst them were beings of similar stature, though they lacked the grace and nimbleness of their flower adorned counterparts. They were instead dressed as if they were on a beach or even upon the high seas, reeking of salt water. Lastly there was the being of sand and black feathers, armed with decrepit armor of a long dead dynasty of the sands. They were part darkspawn yet part human, an amalgamation of both blight and light. But that mattered not to the Wardens.
For tonight, these beings were prey.
As the group of the half-dark rested and prepared for their nightly run of terrors, the Wardens slowly readied themselves. Steel swords, tempered in the furnaces of Weisshaupt Fortress, were drawn and held in ready stances. Steel armor, forged by the finest blacksmiths of the Order, furnished the great warriors. Steel hearts, created from the crucibles of their never ending war against the blight, prepared themselves for the coming battle.
Far away, a clock struck midnight. In the clearing, the part-darkspawn prepared to move further into the forest. And hidden in the treeline, the Wardens began their attack.
