How Did You Get Into NationStates?

Back in 2018, I got really into Paradox games. You know the ones, the kind that everyone here undoubtedly plays. I knew that I had to play one. The problem was, I had only a tablet. So I went to my longtime friend, Safari, and searched up “nation games”. I found this one, and it looked like it could be fun. I founded my First Nation, I remember it being called The Empire of Kuwait. I was not creative in any way. I made it, played for an hour and got bored because I couldn’t invade other nations. I then let it cease to exist. Early February of 2019, I was watching someone play Paradox Games, and thought, “Hey, remember that nation game thing? Why didn’t I like that?” and played it. I created a nation, and, seeing deeper depth than answering issues got hooked. That nation is dead, because my brother got into my account and got it deleted. RIP Cirrus Azaleum. Now I have Cirrus Azale, and everything is well and good. I lost interest for a while, got back into it, and fell back a bit.

I was just a kid then and got into the board when I started roleplaying wars with other nations in International Incidents but ended up spending most of my time in Forum 7, which of course later became P2tM. Still where I spend most of my time.

In 2016, my friends and I played a silly NS-like game on google docs in-between classes during freshman year of high school. It was very silly, we all powergamed to hell and back, and one person was in charge of all the systems and mechanisms in place. I played as the "Union of Soviet Bears of Guam" (and yes, I became a massive communist world power... by starting in Guam. It was not very realistic. We had "hypersonic bombs" which were essentially cluster warheads with golfball-sized fuel air bombs...).

Anyway, after playing with that, one of my other friends who was not in the group mentioned Nationstates, and I got real interested. I've been off and on since, mostly sticking around sci-fi non-human RP

In January 2019, I read a book, Jennifer government. And I was curious whether the promotional game site was still functional.

I joined after finding this site by accident. Was back in the day and still am a p big fan of the Elder Scrolls series. Skyrim being no exception. I was googling and looking up lore on the Aldmeri Dominion and happened to stumble upon a nation here based on it. So yeah, finding and joining this site was literally by chance.

But, because I found many friends and peers did not share my enthusiasm for political discourse, NS was perfect for what I was looking for anyways. Plus a bit of nation-building and RPing my ideal society didn't hurt. So the next day after discovering the site, I join up. And the rest as they say is history.

Been on NS since Dec 27, 2012 having joined with and still using this nation as my main. Which is over 8 years now. Boy, oh boy, lot of time sure has passed.

I actually knew the site's existence since like 2013 or something, but wasn't interested nonetheless. it was until I got slowly interested in politics and nation simulating and in early 2018 I got my first nation (not this one btw) and the rest is history.

I started building this nation around some characters ten years ago in an RP on fanfiction. It then got a revamped, more serious incarnation in another RP some time later. A while back, the Drewpocalypse happened while I still watched him, and it seemed like the logical next step, since all I can actually draw are flags. It’s come a long way since the start, and it even has puppets now.
(Also, this place looked way better than the alternative websites. One of them has you start with like 200km² on the real world map and requires you to fight for more land. I just wanna chill, man.)
