i think the latter would be hilarious, but potentially quite unhelpful lolRemnants of Exilvania wrote:Fereni wrote:cracking up at adelheid basically having a heart attack the moment she sees lucia
Yessssssssssss
I too thought it'd be rather funny, especcially considering how calm and collected she normally is. Now I wonder if I ought to have her regain a semblance of her former self again or orbit Lucia constantly like a crazed fangirl...tho I think for the sake of the adventure the latter would be rather shitty xD

Character Application
Name: Mal Garuth the First and Last, Duke of the Long Duchy
Age: 189
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Asexual? He's a decrepit lich so while he has feelings, he does not have sexual urges.
Race: Despite being a lich he identifies with humanity.
Appearance: Without a glimmer: https://units.wesnoth.org/1.12/pics/add-ons%24Reign_of_the_Lords_Portraits%24images%24portraits%24undead%24eternal.png
With his glimmer: https://warlderia.yolasite.com/resources/human-master-at-arms.png
Position/Status/Affiliation: Duke of the Long Duchy which he founded as a frontier-state in the Karaki lands between Velikya and Zemrai.
Skills/Powers//Magic: Necromancy, Cryomancy, Illusion.
Equipment: He has a staff that can channel negative energy and a floating hour-glass that is entirely for show.
Personality: He is cold and calculating as one might become after over a hundred and fifty years of animating the dead and fighting back barbarian Orkish hordes. He has the wisdom of an aged Loroi but none of their compassion or affinity for nature. He prefers industry. While he supports and patronizes the practice of Necromancy he does not despise the living. He believes that in the fight against Ork all tools are justified, including Necromancy. Raising enemy fallen to fight against them is a logical method to bolster your forces. Humans and dwarves are welcome in the Long Duchy and enjoy the protection of Undead soldiers without the need for a military draft. The only expectation is that they contribute to the economy (of both the living and the dead) and pay the Final Tax. The Final Tax is the reason there are no cemeteries in the Long Duchy: If you die here, you rise again to fight in its defense.
Moral Alignment: Lawful Evil.
Biography: A young Garuth was originally a healer, but he strayed too far and questioned too much for the likes of the musty Academy professors and their musty books.
"If death is merely a temporary ailment..." Garuth had shouted at them, "Why would we not cure it?!"
But the Synod had been suborned by the Faith. Knowledge was not their pursuit now, merely enforcement of rules. And so he was expelled. Well, he was supposed to be executed, but that didn't exactly work out for them. He ran and threw in his lot with one band of cut-throats then another who found his skills useful until he had a band of cut-throats of his own. Then he left for the Karaki frontier and began raiding Karaki burial grounds in secret for bodies to grow his forces. But these bodies were old and weak and he craved young, fresh ones for his experiments. The resting places of the dead he left behind and the resting places of the living he began to pillage until he gained the attention of the nearest Karaki warlord.
The warlord demanded, of all things, an apology.
"They are the barbarians. They burn cities. For once we gave them a taste of their own medicine. We will not apologize." Garuth told his followers. Some of them deserted him in fear. He returned them to his ranks in death. To the rest of the living he intoned, "Do you see now? Do you see that you must fear me so much more than the Karaki?"
They did see. They promised not to desert him in the days to come.
"I only want from the living what I get from the dead." He reminded them. "Complete obedience."
He and his followers began to build the first fortress of his not-yet-realm on a mountaintop over a spring in anticipation of Karaki attack. A dwarven forgemaster living there objected.
"This is my home!" he cried.
"You are free to go." Garuth told him.
"I'll not!" he replied.
"Then the walls shall rise around your forge." And brick by brick they did.
The living worked by day and slept by night. The dead worked constantly. Garuth was pleased with its high battlements and thick stone walls. He named this fortress Castle Austir. But he was not satisfied.
"Wooden clubs and rocks will not do." he said, "Here, forgemaster, take this money and these materials and make my men halberds. Then send for apprentices from Zemrai. You and your apprentices and their apprentices shall enjoy my patronage and protection forever, I swear it."
The forgemaster made the halberds and they were strong, sturdy things with shafts of oak and heads of steel. It was not long before the Karaki attacked. Once, and twice, and thrice their forces smashed against the walls of Austir. Once, and twice, and thrice they were repelled by strong halberds and arrows and sticks sharpened and hardened in flame. After each attack Garuth raised the Orkish dead and they watched as their comrades entered the keep they had just assaulted to fight against them. On the fourth attack Garuth had the fresh orkish dead sally forth against their former comrades. Seeing the cold unloving faces of their former comrades was too much and they broke. In custom, the Karaki warlord sued for peace.
"Civilized races get the peace of parchment, Ork receive the peace of death." Garuth informed him. But they did not even receive that as he raised every last one of them to walk again: undying, unfeeling, unflinching in their obedience. After the battle, the Long Duchy was founded with Heras as its capitol. It was (and still is) a backwoods place with little in the way of development. The kind of immigrants he attracted were rather unsavory. Criminals, convicts, and necromancers (whose immigration he encouraged by providing them with corpses and stipends for study).
Goals: He wants to turn the Long Duchy into an actual nation state (as opposed to essentially a rogue state occupying Karaki land), develop its economy and industry, and most importantly maintain it as the central hub for the study of Necromancy and Cryomancy. This last effort is centered around the School of the Great Sleep which is an academic enterprise he founded roughly 100 years ago to study primarily Necromancy but also Cryomancy as the two are very related. Through this venture he researched and gained the gift of immortality but at a terrible cost: He sacrificed his mortal coil to keep his soul alive indefinitely.
He also believes in and supports the legal protection of ghosts.

Character Application
Name: Ares Baldr Dainn , The Dishonored, Last of His Name, Failed Son of House Dainn
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Race: Human
Appearance:
Position/Status/Affiliation: A Knight-Errant, formerly a knight serving under the banner of a Wyzkian noble.
Skills/Powers//Magic:
-Magic talent: Ares is versed in both Black and White magic, though he mainly focuses on casting of offense-oriented spells in combat, only casting simple wards in the heat of battle to protect himself if necessary. His overall education in the practice of magic is somewhat expansive, having been taught from a young age the principles of magic, and thus he is well aware of magic's various applications, as well as being aware of his own physical limits when casting spells.
-Mana Heart: Surgically implanted within his chest is an enchanted object known as a mana heart. It increases the natural production of mana within his body, allowing him to more freely cast spells in battle. This only happens when he chooses to activate the heart via an incantation. However, activating the heart comes at a cost as the process by which the heart produces more mana is incredibly strenuous, causing him immense pain after only seconds of activation. If he were so willing, he could also increase it's output and put into a sort of overdrive, however, this is quite liable to cause permanent injury or even death if used recklessly.
-Weapons Mastery: Ares is experienced in various sword-wielding techniques and lance based combat.
-Tactical Prowess: Ares is a natural leader, having been trained in various field tactics. He has fought in various conflicts within Wyzkia's borders, and gained experience both on and off the field of battle.
-Enhanced Endurance: He is somewhat tougher than an average human, able to continue standing after grievous blows that would bring low most men. He can run faster, jump higher, and strike harder. This, of course, has its limits. He's no god amongst men, and has met plenty who could match him.
Equipment:
-The Sword of Baldr: A blade passed down through generations, the Sword of Baldr was once wielded by Lord Baldr of Wyzkia. While not particularly remarkable aside from being made out of particularly durable metal, and enchanted so that it would not break, bend or tarnish with age, the weapon is incredibly familiar to Ares, having been in his possession for almost half his life.
-A travelers pack containing various essential items
-Arion: Ares' horse. Loyal, and well used to the rage of battle.
Personality: A serious, stoic, and pensive man. Kind by nature, and generally selfless, he however finds himself consumed by a sense of self-loathing and failure. He is single-minded in his determination at times, and prone to be overcome by fits of passion and anger in the heat of the moment. Ares has a vast enjoyment of literature, and the obtaining of knowledge. In his search for the man that ruined his life, he has found himself becoming a sort of scholar as well.
Moral Alignment: Lawful good
Biography: The son of a knight in service to a Wyzkian noble, Ares was raised to be a warrior, taught from a young age the skills that he would need to serve his liege. From the time he could walk, he was taught in the ways of combat. From the time he could read, he was educated in the ways of magic. And when he was naught but 13 years old, he was taught of the bloodthirsty and cruel nature of the battlefield. Over the course of his young adult life, he found himself locked in combat, fighting in land disputes between his liege and the other nobility. When he was 16, his father fell ill, and within the year he passed, leaving the title of Sir Dainn to his son. For 2 years he served beneath the banner as the head of his house until a fateful incident came to pass. A year after The Seven Heroes brought their short-lived peace, whilst in attendance of a wedding along with his liege, he was drugged, and his lord was slaughtered in a plan conducted and led by an assassin hired by somebody among the court of Wyzkian nobility. Disgraced by his failure, he was cast out of Wyzkian society. Stripped of his title, and branded as a traitor, he was banished from his home. A disgraced knight errant, he wandered the land, lost and without purpose, aside from a burning, fierce desire to redeem his family's name, and avenge his liege. He finds himself now in Anselm, still searching for any lead on the man who ruined him.
Goals: To redeem his name.
