Alsland Election 2020
SDF Largest Party, Coalition required for a majority
December 12, 2020 | Yndyk
After a relatively short campaign, tonight the leaders can do no more as the public have cast their votes. The current favourite to be Alsland's next Prime Minister is Lilliana Elliott of the centre-right SDF. Her main challenger is Ottila Möller of the centre-left SdA. The many candidates have been travelling throughout the country over the last few weeks in an attempt to win voters over and polls are showing that the centre-right National Bloc is on track for a slim majority in Alsland's house of representatives.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:00 - Good evening, welcome to ALS' live coverage of the 2020 general elections. Alsland has had 4 Premier's in 6 years, the last few years have seen rising tension between Alsland's 4 communities and tonight the nation votes on who will be the country's next Premier's.
Will it be, as the polls suggest, the current Premier Liliana Elliott who wins re-election and ushers in a new age of politics in Alsland; or can Ottila Möller defy the pollsters and claim victory for the Progressive Alliance. We may even see a different candidate entirely claim this election for themselves as the country's main political blocs are struggling to win over support and keep their voters. Tonight the country decides. We have reporters in every province waiting to deliver the results as they come in and along with other major news organisations in Alsland and independent polling groups, we will deliver the first exit poll at 9:45pm when the polls close.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:21:01 - As you all know a December Election is unprecedented in Alsland, elections by tradition take place in Spring but this year is different and as a result we are expecting turnout at the polls today to be among the lowest in Alish History, the lowest turnout in any election came in 1960 when Eric Feigenspan was brought into office on a turnout of only 54.8%. Today's expected low turnout is likely driven by the rising numbers of Politically unaffiliated voters and the weather which took a turn for the worst yesterday, if that's a sign of anything we'll just have to wait and see but you can sense a feeling of disinterest in this election specifically, according to a large amount of people we spoke to, they said none of the candidates won them over.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:01 - When the polls close we will bring you our exit poll for this election but first we must introduce the others in the studio who will be commenting on this election throughout the night. First we have former Premier of Alsland and and former President of the Euclean Community Bonne Zijlstra. We also have former Premier Aachtsje Wieringa. We also have dozens of reporters at the places where it matters like Ilfracombe in Fawkhamshire where Premier Elliott will be arriving for the result in that province in a few hours. We also have reporters in Yndyk, Wottested, Werdau, Kirchester, Hurdegaryp, Glauchau and Rahu.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:05 - Tonight is a historic night for the country and if the polls are to believed we are on the brink of a Political shakeup that could last for generations. Bonne, you campaigned hard for the Progressive Alliance in Delland, Yndyk and Wottested during this campaign yet it seems like your efforts and the efforts of almost every other Progressive Alliance party may be in vain. Do you care to comment?
Bonne Zijlstra wrote:21:06 - Well obviously the polls throughout the campaign have not been good for the Progressive Alliance but we have seen rises in support in Garz, Zittau, Yndyk and Martiland and we are hoping this, along with a drive to get people to the polls will prove the polls wrong.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:07 - But polling data shows a large amount of voters, usually Progressive Alliance voters, aren't planning on voting this election due to a variety of reasons. Do you really believe that you have been able to drive turnout up today?
Bonne Zijlstra wrote:21:08 - Well certainly I hope we have been able to, voter participation and a choice of parties is what is so unique about this country and this shows that if there is a low turnout we must return to having our elections in Spring and Summer.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:10 - Thank you Mr Zijlstra we're hoping to hear more from you throughout the night. Ms Wieringa, you surely must be happy with how this campaign is going. In Delland which is you and Mr Zijlstra's constituency your party has been leading throughout the campaign. Surely you are happy with this?
Aachtsje Wieringa wrote:21:12 - Yes I am happy with how the campaign has been ran but we shouldn't get too confident about our own successes. I believe that Premier Elliott has been doing a great job in her campaign and her premiership so far. However the decision is not up to us it's up to the people of Alsland and whether they are choosing between the National Bloc, the Progressive Alliance or the other parties contesting this election.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:15 - Thank you Ms Wieringa. I would like to remind our viewers that we hope to bring you the first exit poll of the night at 9:30pm when we will see a poll on how the people have voted.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:24 - With only 6 Minutes until our exit poll can be released and the polls close we are getting news that Premier Elliott will be departing from her family home in Ilfracombe at about 10pm to go to the Fawkhamshire Provincial declaration, Fawkhamshire historically has been the first to declare although a fierce competition has emerged between Fawkhamshire and Martiland who came first in 2010 and 2015 to declare their results first.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:29 - We are now seconds away from the polls closing and only seconds away from delivering our exit poll which will give us an insight into who's won and who hasn't. This poll is unique because it will tell us how voters have voted and not who they planned on voting for. Uusally the exit poll will give us a clear indication about how the night will progress.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:30 - It's 9:30 and we at ANS are predicting that Lilliana Elliott will remain as Premier and the National Bloc have won a majority, how big that majority will be well we can tell you that we expect it to be somewhere from a 5 seat majority to the National Bloc only needing 5 seats to have a majority. However we can tell you that tonight will be a historic night from the country.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:31 - Ms Wieringa, it appears you've done it. Are you happy with this result?
Aachtsje Wieringa wrote:21:31 - Yes Willy I am thrilled with this result, we have campaigned hard and I believe the result shows that we have. The public are entrusting us with governing this country and we shouldn't let them down. This Government I believe will work for the people of Alsland to deliver what is best for them.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:33 - Thank you Ms Wieringa, we would like to bring your attention to one specific party for a moment, the UDU, our exit poll predicts Alsland's former third party has lost all of it's seats. The party's platform this year was heavily criticised for it's euclosceptic policies. Klara Fabel, the party's leader said she would quit if the party lost seats, well it appears that she is out of the job tonight and she has led her party to their worst defeat since the 1950s.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:21:38 - We're also getting news from the Premier that she is happy about the result and is watching the election with her family at their residence in Ilfracombe. We believe that she will leave her house to attend Fawkhamshire's result declaration sometime between 21:50 and 22:30. Alsland as you know uses electronic voting and this makes for quick results on elections. But it appears the country has chosen Lilliana Elliott to be their Premier in a historic moment, the second time a women has led one of the country's blocs to victory and the first time since 2000 that any bloc could potentially achieve a majority in the House.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:42 - Thank you Pabbe, we're getting an indication from specific areas on the country on how they have voted, lets look at Fawkhamshire's 1st Senate district, whilst the Senate is up for election in April we have an indication from some of that district's votes that the Estmerish Separatist party the Democrats have done exceptionally well and the SDF has indeed won a landslide in Fawkhamshire. We are actually expecting from our exit poll for support for the Democrats to rise significantly from 2015 which for any future government should be alarming. Whilst the idea of Fawkhamshire and Hamptonshire seceding and joining Estmere is a fringe idea it is still supported by about 8% of the population there and we believe that 8% to be very politically active.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:21:58 - We're getting word that Premier Elliott has left her home in Ilfracombe and is now at the Ilfracombe Central sports centre which is being used to declare that Province's results. We know she is happy with the results and it is highly likely that she will remain as Premier for the foreseeable future.
Willy Kohring wrote:21:58 - Thank you Pabbe, let's bring your attention to another close race tonight the race between Martiland and Fawkhamshire to be the first to declare their results. Now Fawkhamshire has historically been the fastest province to declare their results but Martiland has been catching up and it declared 10 minutes earlier than them in 2015, we know that Fawkhamshire want their crown back and we know that already most of the votes cast are being received. The voting machines used in today's elections are being taken to Ilfracombe where they have been arriving since 21:30, we know that about half of the machines have already been received and their votes will be counted soon. We are expecting the final machines to arrive at 22:20 where it takes only a few minutes to process all their ballots.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:21:58 - In Martiland the process is different however, the province isn't one continuous entity it's split into four distinct parts. The machines from each of those parts will be counted at individual areas and sent to Rahu where they will be declared. Due to the Province's small size it doesn't take long at all for this process to occur.
Also in Martiland we are expecting the KPP to do exceptionally well in this province as always. You may even remember from 1975 to 1990 they held every single seat in Martiland and we are hearing that their leader and current Minister-President of Martiland, Ahto Malk, is hoping they can regain their past victories. The party's result in 2015 was their worst since 2005.
Willy Kohring wrote:22:21 - We now go live to Rahu where Martiland have done it for a third time running and they have declared their results first tonight.
Martiland Results wrote:22:22 - KPP - 10 Seats
ASAI - 1 Seat
Justice - 1 Seat
The Centre - 1 seat
Willy Kohring wrote:22:24 - As you can see from that the KPP haven't quite managed to win every seat in the province and The Centre and ASAI survive in the province. In fact Martiland is the most supportive province of ASAI with the party gaining most of their support from Martiland, Yndyk and Wottested. Another interesting thing is that the Justice party are back in the House following a long absence, the party traditionally does well in the Senate but they and their leader Ullo Mand, the grandson of Villem Mand, are officially back in the House following a long absence.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:22:29 - What is interesting about this is the speed of how it was done. 57 minutes was the all time record set by Fawkhamshire in 2005 but Martiland have declared their results 52 minutes following poll closings making this a record for Martiland. We are also being told that Ahto Malk, the leader of the KPP, is happy about their results and has said that the KPP won't let the people of Martiland down. Malk is one of the most popular figures in Martiland and his party which is a member of the Progressive Alliance, is the dominant party in the province.
Willy Kohring wrote:22:32 - We actually now have the results from Fawkhamshire coming in 10 minutes after Martiland, this is the Premier's province and it is key to understanding how this race will turn out
Fawkhamshire Results wrote:22:34 - Sotirian Democratic Front - 11 Seats
Socialist Party - 3 Seats
Democrats - 1 Seat
Willy Kohring wrote:22:37 - Look at that. Fawkhamshire is dark blue tonight with the SDF completely sweeping the province, the Socialist Party have been badly defeated and the UDU have lost all their seats from the province. The Democrats also gained a seat in this province. This is a truely monumental moment for Alsland and the province of Fawkhamshire, once it was the birthplace of the Socialist Party and home of former Premier Jonathan Fraser but tonight, it now looks like the SDF and National bloc by extension have won big.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:22:49 - It wasn't long ago that Fawkhamshire was once considered safe for the Socialist Party in the house, not even the Worker's Party could win a majority of seats there in 2005 but tonight it seems that the SDF have won the province and they have won big potentially reshaping the Province's politics for generations to come. Premier Elliott was obviously very pleased with what she has done tonight as she has done what many thought was impossible just 10 years ago. In fact in 2010 actually the province was home to the reverse of tonight, the Socialist Party winning 10 seats and nearly wiping out the SDF from the province.
Willy Kohring wrote:22:58 - The Results are coming in fast now, Wottested, Alsland's second city and a political battleground this election is now about to declare it's results. Throughout the campaign it has been neck and neck between the Conservative Party, a National Bloc member and the Social Democrats in Delland, a Progressive Alliance member. We will now see if the trend from Fawkhamshire continues or were we sorely mistake.
Wottested Results wrote:23:00 - Conservative Party - 5 Seats
Social Democrats in Delland - 3 Seats
Green Socialists - 3 Seats
Workers Party - 1
Willy Kohring wrote:23:03 - The Political earthquake continues, Wottested a formally safe SDyD city and province has flipped blue for the Conservative Party. It is hard to state in words, the magnitude of tonight's results but it's shocking to see the SDyD, once a party that was crucial in 2000's landslide victory for the Progressive Alliance, struggle to get more votes than the Green Socialists. Speaking of them, they have done extraordinarily in Wottested tonight, Bene Feitsma promised a political revolution, she may not have done it but the Greens are a force to be reckoned with in Alsland tonight.
Pabbe Snijder wrote:23:03 - What's surprising is that the National Bloc have turned a major city, a base of left-wing voters into a Conservative and Liberal haven tonight. Wottested, the former capital of the country, the place where Alsland's trade unions are often influential in provincial governing, has went towards the Conservatives. I was not expecting this, the polls said at most the Conservative Party would win one more seat than the SDyD but they have outperformed expectations and have flipped the "Pink tide" in Euclea.
Willy Kohring wrote:23:29 - We now go to Zittau where the leader of the Sotirian Union is defending his seat against the Social Democratic Alliance.
Zittau Results wrote:23:31 - Social Democratic Alliance - 10 Seats
Sotirian Union - 4 Seats
The Centre - 3 Seats
Green Socialists - 2 Seats
Workers Party - 1 Seat
Willy Kohring wrote:23:33 - In an election of surprises, this may be the turning point, the Social Democratic Alliance have won outright in the Province of Zittau. Also Jochen Scheffler has lost his seat, the political successor to Benjamin Schaumann's career is practically over, he is no longer leader of the Sotirian Union as it's rules dictate it's leader must be a sitting member of the Senate or House. The Progressive Alliance has turned back the advance of the National Bloc and tonight may not be as clear cut as we predicted earlier on in the night.
Willy Kohring wrote:23:58 - We're all still reeling from the surprises of tonight but here's some stability, Yndyk is now about to declare. The city is safe for the SDyD who's main competitors have been the Greens led by Bene Feitsma. We are hoping Yndyk won't surprise us as well but if it does it at least makes for good television.
Yndyk Results wrote:00:00 - Social Democrats in Delland - 6 Seats
Green Socialists - 3 Seats
Conservative Party - 2 Seats
Luetske Groenewoud (IND) - 1 Seat
Willy Kohring wrote:00:02 - We were hoping Yndyk wouldn't surprise us, our hopes have been answered, Yndyk remains as a safe SDyD city and Province. The Biggest surprise may be the independent, Luetske Groenewoud winning a seat. Groenewoud was not on many people's minds until tonight and she is the first person to win as an independent since 1995. In fact Groenewoud was not even predicted to win a seat so we've had to quickly rush to add her colours into our result system.
Willy Kohring wrote:01:09 - It's been over an hour since our last declaration but we have one from Hamptonshire, there was a problem with their machines but it's been fixed and we can now deliver you the results. Hamptonshire is expected to go blue, it's traditionally flipped between the two blocs.
Hamptonshire Results wrote:01:11 - Sotirian Democratic Front - 16 Seats
Socialist Party - 4 Seats
Democrats - 2 Seats
The Centre - 1 Seat
Willy Kohring wrote:01:14 - The SDF out on top in Hamptonshire in a historic wave tonight, blue is the colour that flows through the country tonight. Catherine Fischer the leader of The Centre retains her seat by a narrow margin and the Democrat's have increased their support. But the main picture is that the SDF have won a landslide in Hamptonshire and Fawkhamshire tonight, the largest in history for the SDF. 29 seats in total for the SDF putting them on top as it stands. We have been told that Premier Elliott has arrived in Yndyk for a celebratory party with the National Bloc, the mood is more somber for the Progressive Alliance it seems.
Willy Kohring wrote:01:35 - We now have what is arguably the most important province of the night. Delland will be declaring it's results momentarily. Polls have shown a tight race between the SDyD and Conservative Party but this province will decide whether we all have egg on our faces or our prediction of a National Bloc majority was correct.
Delland Results wrote:01:40 - Conservative Party - 12 Seats
Social Democrats in Delland - 8 Seats
The Centre - 3 Seats
Green Socialists - 1 Seat
National Rally - 1 Seat
Willy Kohring wrote:01:43 - There it is, whilst we were expecting the Conservative Party to come out ahead, 4 seats is a good result for the Conservative Party tonight. The SDyD on 8 seats means that they will have 17 seats in total by the end of the night. The Conservative Party on 20 seats tonight. The National Rally winning a seat here is odd, the party's main support base was historically in Martiland and Fawkhamshire but it seems that they have made inroads in Delland. The Green Socialists gaining a seat in the Province and the UDU losing it's seats here.
Willy Kohring wrote:02:47 - Last but not least is the province of Garz, the second largest province in Alsland and usually the last to declare due to the distance needed to travel by some places. Garz was once an SU safe haven, so was Zittau and Zittau has turned pink tonight.
Garz Results wrote:02:50 - Social Democratic Alliance - 12 Seats
Sotirian Union - 8 Seats
Green Socialists - 3 Seats
The Centre- 2 Seats
Willy Kohring wrote:02:53 - Garz is pink and the National Bloc don't have a majority tonight. By a slim margin there will have to be a coalition between parties to see who will be the country's next Premier, Lilliana Elliott is the leader of the largest party but Ottila Möller's SdA has 25 seats, 4 less than Elliott's. Garz flipping is historical as the province was an SU safe hold in 2010 and 2015 but it along with Zittau has flipped.
Willy Kohring wrote:03:00 - Tonight was a night of drama, at the start of it we believed the National Bloc were on track for a majority. now, 6 hours later, it's unclear who will lead Alsland. The National Bloc have the most seats but The Centre's leadership is hesitant on any future coalition. That's all, thank you for watching and good night.
