Central City, CAU
Sophia Riveria stepped off the gangplank and onto the dock, weeks of sea travel had made her weary. She gave her body a quick stretch before someone shouted at her to continue moving. “Sorry,” she muttered as she continued forward with the rest of her company. All around her members of the Miami Fighters were unloading equipment and supplies. Part of the PCCA’s “Peacekeeping” mission in the CAU. Everyone knew they were just being used as political pawns, but to be fair, Sophia thought, Central City is beautiful. Up ahead Sophia could see where the soldiers were being led to. A nearby train, once again more traveling. At least this time it wouldn’t be by sea.
“Sergeant Riveria! Sergeant Sophia Riveria!” a voice called out from behind. Sophia stepped out of line and turned around, straightening her bag as she turned,
“Over here!”A young man with a MP badge and helmet approached her,
“Orders,” he said as he handed her a small white envelope. The fuck? Sophia thought as she opened the envelope The orders were simple, for here to not get on the train, walk further into the city, and hail a taxi and go to 111 Amon Road,. The envelope even contained cash for the faire. The order was signed not by any one officer but with a special seal. She carefully studied the seal, she had only seen it a handful of times, but it meant it was a legal order, just highly secret. If this leads to some pervy fucking general Sophia thought. Turning to the MP she replied,
“Orders received, thank you sir,” As the MP left Sophia let out a sigh, she had to walk into a foreign city by herself, and all she had was her combat knife. With that she turned and walked away from the train, keenly aware of the eyes on her as the company watched her walk away.
The city was buzzing with life, people going about their day. Yet what amazed her was the amount of black people, not even in Atlanta could Sophia find so many black people. As a white girl she felt a bit intimidated by her casual racism but shook it off.
“Taxi!” Sophia called out once she saw a number of them parked. A taxi pulled up in front of her and she got into the door, “111 Amon Road please,” she told the driver. The driver looked at her through the rearview mirror, with a perplexed look on his face. Before driving off. Sophia watched as the taxi drove through the city, the buildings were nice, a bit repetitive in style though, but such was common in socialist nations. After what felt like an hour on the highway, the car finally pulled into an alleyway in a rundown area on the outskirts of town.
oh dear lord this will be a pervy general won’t it Sofia thought, her fear rising. She handed the faire to the taxi driver and got out. The taxi quickly put in reverse and drove away.
“Now what?” Sofia said thinking out loud. Behind her an engine turned on and without some car lights, turning around and shielding her face from the light, she could barely make out a black sedan. “Come in,” a voice called out. Walking slowly around the car she made her way into the sedan where she sat in the middle of two armed guards. The one to her left put a finger to her lips. The guard on the right took out a file, out the corner of her vision she could see a small photograph of herself attached to a set of documents.
“Sofia Rivieria, age 25, Rank Sergeant, member of the Miami Fighters Division, First Recon Company. Born and raised in Athens, Georgia. Your favorite food is chicken wings and your date of birth is Nov 17th, 1964. Growing up in the PCCA you became friends with Ben Newman and Haley Ronald who joined you when you enlisted. Your blood type is A+, registered donor, your accuracy test is 98 . You currently live on your own with your pet Dog Marysue Is any of that incorrect?” The man closed the file before handing it off to her.
“No sir,” she replied after a quick glance, handing the file back. The agent took the file and placed it away and looked out the window before glancing back.
“No need for formalities…” he checked his watch and turned back to face her. “The PCCA has selected you for special training under our nations’ shared military alliance. You will be working and training alongside the Union Security Committee; you will be given top secret clearance, I hope you realize the responsibility of such clearance.” His tone relaxed but still remained professional. Sofia’s eyes widened, then narrowed before stammering,
“What does all this entail? Wha-what will I be doing?” The female agent laughed slightly.
“Worry not ma chére, your government wishes to make a spy out of you. Your background, grades, aptitude tests all scored high, you were handpicked by your councils to be trained by our organization. You and 9 others, will be housed and trained by USC in clandestine espionage.”
“I’m honored, but I'm just a sniper, a kid from Georgia,” Sofia said, flabbergasted.
“And the founder of our nation was the son of sharecroppers and house maids. We all have our humble origins, but that’s why our nations are so great. No need for luck to become successful, just talent and willpower.” The man spoke with a smirk, “all that matters is your answer.”
“I accept.”
Office of the IWW Chairman, Central City Parliament Building
17:05; May 25th.
Fatima leaned back in her seat and sighed softly, the 39 year old grimacing at her injured body as it found itself in the seat. The scars of an IED plaster her lower half, and the fragments from it still linger in less tender areas. She took a glass of tea from her desk and gently sipped it whilst pondering. She was behind the desk of the most powerful person in the Union. Infront of her was the ability to support the IWW from the sidelines, give her allies endorsements that will guarantee victory and more nefariously rig the bureaucratic web to never allow another non IWW party member to win their election. More importantly, she picks who the next Prime Minister would be... Back in the USC, she became close friends and allies with the head of the Espionage department, a bonafide spy. Her name was Amelia Armstrong, a foreign-born national, born and raised for most of her life in the Great Eilean Commonwealth; by the age of 18 she had enlisted in the Royal Navy, becoming an intelligence officer before defecting. She came to the CAU in the mid 70's where she then enlisted into the UAA, upon scoring high on her tests she was selected to become a USC agent. Afterwards, she became a clandestine agent, on behalf of the CAU, around the world; From Tarazed and Japan to South Africa, Arascid, and Galasie. Armstrong was an expert on foreign affairs and relations... A perfect replacement for Xavier Leke. She as already informed of his resignation come the end of the negotiations with South Africa concluded, so she needed someone who would excel with establishing the CAU's dominance politically in the former Union of South Africa.
She examined Amelia and smirked before putting down the file, taking up the phone to call up the chairman of the new Ba'ath party.

An Artist’s Rendition of the Completed Bridge
The Department of Infrastructure announced this morning that it had been given approval to begin construction of the Strait of Messina Bridge, a project proposed by several engineers to link Interstate Route 105’s southern termination in Eritra, Calabria with Interstate Route 120‘s eastern termination in Messina, Sicilia. The Strait of Messina Bridge will, in essence, link the island of Sicilia with the mainland of Italy, and in turn, the mainland of Europe. The Strait of Messina Bridge is projected to cost 1.5 billion Auroes, and require a decade to complete. Construction is set to commence in early January 1991.
The Strait of Messina Bridge, as proposed by a civil engineering firm, the Stretto di Messina S.P.A, will have a total length of four kilometers, and it’s longest span will be 3.3 kilometers across the Strait. This length of 3.3 kilometers will make the Strait of Messina Bridge the longest suspension bridge in the world upon it’s projected completion sometime in 2001. The total height of the bridge will tower above the local coastline and villages, standing at 382.6 meters, and therefore making the bridge the tallest in the world, beating out the Millau Viaduct in southern Galasie by over forty meters. The Strait of Messina Bridge will be equipped with six traffic lanes (three eastbound and three westbound), in addition to two emergency lanes. The Strait of Messina Bridge will also include two railway lines, one eastbound and one westbound, in addition to railway maintenance sidewalks.
The Strait of Messina Bridge has been, so far, well received in both Calabria and Sicilia. Many local residents are supportive of the bridge’s ability to create additional jobs in the region during it’s construction, in addition to future jobs associated with maintenance and other related industries. Many economists in Roma have also supported the project, arguing on behalf of the anticipated benefits of physically linking Sicilia to mainland Italy, the most tangible benefit being the reduction of costs associated with shipping passengers and cargo back and forth between the mainland and Sicilia.

VICTORY OVER APARTHEID
Following the surrender of the Union of South African government, the Central African Union proudly announces it's newly formed alliance with the even newly formed South African Socialist Republic. Lead by the former activist, Nelson Mandela, and fought by the millions of our oppressed brothers and sisters, the De Villers Regime has come to a just end, with the workers' flag flying high over the capital building. While the United African Army and Central Air Force marched on past Windhoek and the jungles of Mozambique, revolutionaries gripped the nation in civil strife until the coward De Villers and the corporate backed UN demanded a ceasefire; this ceasefire led way to extremist violence by the rogue element of the Boer military, but these terrorists were squashed by the brave men and women of our armed forces. Later, a treaty was signed and formalized the founding of the SASR, with the De Villers' Regime given the mercy of amnesty, never to truly atone for their crimes and were seen being exiled away from South Africa aboard the national aircraft. Celebrations broke out in South Africa and here in the Union as decades of hostilities have finally come to their just end... SEE MORE ON PAGE 5

The Peoples' Issue
Today is a great day in the Intermarium. In honor of our economic prosperity, we like to honor businesses, especially State-led Enterprises for the goods and services they provide the people. And the classical dress representing the ideal of modern business and economic prosperity is the suit! The round hat as well being a classic nod to the earlier days of the business aesthetic. So every year on June 10th, Intermarians en masse wear suits, even in the midst of the hottest weather. Although as a rule its expected and bottled water is regularly sold and handed out to the citizenry. The Intermarian President had this to say on the matter: "We wear the Suits and hats in honor of the hard working entrepreneurs and CEO's whose inventive ambitions lead the day and lay the foundations for a progressive society. A Sonacist society is seen to be anti-business, but this is not true at all. We are rather against unethical and egocentric business practices. Entrepreneurs should benefit and prosper from the ideas and inventions they come up with and share with society, but, they also benefit from the society and its laws in order to be able to benefit from their ideas to begin with. The collective ideal of humanity comes first, but the individual is part of this, so, it is about serving both the collective good and the self-interest of the individual as long as its ethics are in line with the greater good. Indeed, the ideal is one, it forms a harmonious sphere of co-prosperity between the society and the individual. The CEO's, especially for the State Enterprises, who keep the heat and water running as efficiently as possible for the benefit of the whole nation. While also being given the food on their table and recognized for their efficiency by the society in turn. Even in the heat of the summer, in remembrance of the hard work and sacrifice that these people give everyday to ensure the country runs like a well oiled machine. No matter the heat they find themselves in. That is why in order to honor this co-prosperous relationship, we wear these suits, ties, and round hats in honor of this day! Happy Suit Appreciation Day. Hail Sona!"

The Peoples' Issue
Today marks the beginning of the military exercises on the Rhine near the Galaisen border. With 2000 brave Intermarian troops taking part alongside the brave Acusians forces. The exercises also took place on the same day as Suit Appreciation Day for the Intermarians, who were already festive and ecstatic about the day. Because if wearing suits on a hot summer's day doesn’t get the blood bumping, then an additional patriotic parade and exercises alongside them shall. The Intermarian military exercises and the parade in the capital alongside it was greeted by the Acusian’s and Intermarians defense ministers. The efficient Acusian Heinrich Schoeller and the Intermarians own fatherly, honest, and dedicated Alexander Lukashenko. The exercises once again were reemphasized by the Intermarian defense minister as “purely defensive” and any involvement of Intermarian troops would “strictly end at the Acusian border”. He gave a speech in front of the troops before the exercises were to begin, while wearing his finest and warmest suit and officers cap:
“The Intermarians are here strictly for our longtime allies, the Acusians, who were gracious enough to not only invite me to the exercises, but also the parade going on in addition to the exercises. A parade celebrating the brotherhood and unity of Acusians and Intermarians. Though our ideals may differ, we both stand for the same love of humanity, merely expressed in different means. And though we may disagree on those means, our ends remain similar to their core. That is why this alliance stands strong and we stand united against the potential of any threat, whether from the west, south, or god forbid, the east. Although the Intermarians will not cross the border in any operation, as our purposes are strictly peaceful. Know that if this is broken, the Intermarians will defend their western allies and brothers on Acusian soil with extreme ferocity! The enemy on this land, will be made to, at minimum, lose both of their hands. For daring to disrespect the sanctity of this land and put its great guardians in peril. I speak not only as a minister, but as a leader, as a father to my troops, and a father to my people and our brotherly allies. If the people did not want me in this position, I would resign tomorrow. But the people insist I stay, nay, they would protest tomorrow if I attempted to leave my post! That is why I remain steadfast, and honest in my duties. A reputation I am well known and reputed for. My honor and brutal honesty. All Intermarians know this. As long as I have your support, I remain Defense Minister of the Intermarium. I will tie myself to my duties for life if need be! As to best serve my motherland and your most noble ally, the Intermarium! This is why I stand by my Acusian counterpart and dear friend to the Intermarium, Acusian Defense Minister Schoeller, who himself is here to simply defend his noble people in the face of potential and any real dangers that come to pass. We honor him as a great friend, thank him for the invitation, and stand by ready to help defend this great country on his and the Acusian peoples behalf. Not as great to my heart as the Intermarium, but not so far from it either. Thank you to all great patriots and soldiers, may god bless all your steadfast endeavors. Hail Sona!”

The General Election Draws Near
Italy’s political scene is heating up as politicians across the nation gear up for the 1990 General Election. Offices from small town Mayors to the Presidency of Italy are up for grabs this year as the left leaning Federalisti face off with the conservative Democratici. The Federalisti have held the Presidency and Senate since 1982 and 1984, respectively, yet lost control of the Parliament to the Democratici in the 1988 Midterm Elections.
Multiple offices on a federal level are up for grabs this year, including the entirety of the Parliament, 26 seats in the Senate, and the Presidency. Incumbent President Salvatore Provenza will face off on the national stage with Giampoalo Colangelo, the leading figure of the Democratic Party. The former Senator from Emilia, President Provenza has built an unprecedented coalition, La Lega Lavoratori, including the mainstream Federalist Party, in addition to multiple minor parties, including the Italian Worker’s Socialist Party, the Green Party, and even the Communist Party. The Democrats, in contrast, have formed La Coalizione per la Democrazia in conjunction with the People’s Party and the Northern League.
Unlike President Provenza, who has collaborated in the past with left wing factions such as the communists, Mr. Colangelo has been described by many in his coalition as an “unapologetic anti-communist,” given the rhetoric his campaign has reinterred since the start of his campaign earlier this year. The Coalition for Democracy, thanks to this rhetoric, has gained traction with anti-communist factions across Italy, especially in the south. In contrast, many major urban centers in the north have seen a much closer race between the two coalitions, especially in key regions such as Milano, Firenze, Torino, and Venezia. All in all, it is still too early to make any accurate predictions regarding who will come out on top.

The revolutionaries rise up against the corrupt Brazilian government and set up street barricades, meanwhile the Brazilian government sends out hundreds of officers in riot gear and guns to quell the protests. The government declares a temporary lockdown and that if the riots do not end soon “martial law will be declared” and the military then brought in. The revolutionaries start throwing rocks and Molotov's at the direction of the riot police, gear and guns in hand, but neither makes any major moves or takes causalities yet. Holding still before the critical moment, with looting having begun as well and some arms have been stolen from nearby businesses by some of the "so called revolutionaries". From there, the situation looks ready to escalate and the outcome remains uncertain, with the actions of the rioters and government that come next being the decider between what occurs and where the future of the country shall be headed. The rioters ready their arms and hold to cover, waiting to shoot at the riot police, while the police stand at the ready. It all remains uncertain from here. The rioters go in for a temporary barricade, while some of the leading rioters hold up inside the buildings and central hubs of the areas they have taken hold in, from there, they begin to hatch a plan to hold and even advance against “the corrupt Brazilian regime;” Their goal, to impede it, turn the tide against, and ultimately, to overthrow it. The situation is now in god's hands and the decisions that each side makes from here on out.

Sera sighed as she laid back down on the plush bedding, allowing the client to gather his belongings and bow to her as before leaving the room into the hallway. She sat up on the bed and reached for the hookah pipe on the table. It was her third client of the day, a tourist from some European country, whose kind heart wished to give her a tip for her services but that wasn't needed. Taking a long hit from the pipe, she let out the cloud of hashish smoke fill the room and leave through the vents in the ceiling; just as a woman entered the room.
"Sera? Mama Rossa wanted to speak with you." It was a coworker who worked across from her, Nina, who had a silken robe on with her hair tied in a neat bun. Sera sat up, stretching her arms out before locating her own robe and getting up.
"What now?" She groaned knowing it would probably be another instance of Rossa talking her ear off about "the worker's struggle and how we must ensure the people are blah blah blah"; the fourth time she'd hear the same speech. Looking at Nina for an answer, Nina had already vanished back into her room, retreating to the horde of giggling women back in her space. Lucky fucker, I never get the lesbians... She thought begrudgingly, putting on slippers as she shuffled through the carpeted floors of the brothel. In the late 50's the Central African Union had a major split between Catholics, Muslims and Secularists; when the topic of the legalization of sex work was on the table, in the wake of the First African Bush War. Whilst the religious sectors had said that the legalization of brothels would lead to "degeneracy" and the downfall of the Union, it has actually been a pillar of it's stability. Sex work is a vital occupation in every civilization, from the sleazy porn star, to the corner store hooker, to the ancient temples of the Sumerian where the priestess would give blessing through intercourse. The limitation of this line oi work leads to real degeneracy; the criminal underbelly that is always present in a modern nation will take advantage of the holes in society and fill them with human trafficking and the exploitation of the most vulnerable of society.
So the Central Committee under the Amon administration had made a compromise, one that would satisfy all parties: The Sex Worker's Charter. The Charter was a comprehensive list of rules and regulations regarding the legalization of sex work, from things such as where they're only allow to build brothels in major cities, to where they can zone said brothels, to the maximum amount of hours/clients a worker will be able to work for. After the charter, brothels started to pop up everywhere, the demand for working men and women exploded practically overnight and to such a volume that the government feared a shortage of workers. A propaganda campaign went full steam, showing the nobility of the sex worker to drum up more support for the occupation; there was even a national holiday dedicated to the profession (September 3rd) and as of this year there is over 1 million registered sex workers in the CAU. The 3 SW Unions (Kenyan Sex Workers Coalition, Nigerian Courtesan League, Central African Brothel Union) agreed on splitting themselves in three as to maintain closer eye on the brothels under their preview and as to not get bogged down with bureaucratic red tape. So as Sera entered the supervisor's room and saw a large poster of three women holding up the male, female and intersex gender symbols with large text that read "OUR WORK HOLDS THIS NATION TOGETHER. JOIN THE KSWC", she was not surprised. Behind a mahogany desk was an aging black woman with dark freckles dotting the bridge of her nose that hosted up a pair of thick black rimmed glasses; a pipe siting gingerly between two fingers. Her bald head shinned slightly from the light fixture as Sera approached her, hands neatly folded on her lap.
"Mama Rossa, Nina said you wished to speak with me?" Rossa took a drag from the holder and let out a puff of white smoke, it reeked of cannabis.
"Miss Sera, you've been quite popular lately, I heard you've been getting the majority of our tourist clientele." Sera nodded, taking out a notepad from the pouch on her robe. She placed the notepad on the desk and Rossa took a quick scroll through it. "Huh, man from Italy? I've heard the men from there are quite uh... Tender, as you'd say." Sera chuckled a little as Rossa put the notebook down and picked up her pipe again.
"He was definitely a charmer, could barely understand a word out of his mouth though. What is this about Mama? Am I in trouble or something?"
"Far from it, I wish to offer you a new position. The other girls love you, but our performance isn't uh... How you say... Good." She took a puff and looked outside, looking at the courtyard of the large brothel. "Our ladies aren't experts, and they could use your knowledge. I ran it by the girls and they almost uniamously agreed to this, we want to promote you to instructor." Sera's eyes widened;
"W-w-w-w-w-wait instructor?! I could never I mean I uh!..." Sera sighed and bowed her head. "I thank you Mama Rossa but I could never fill in the shoes you left." Rossa shook her head.
"You're selling yourself short, and you were always my most attentive student. If you accept you'll be able to retain your old hours but you have the option to see less clients if you so wish. Your primary task will be evaluating our girls and making sure they know what they're doing." Rossa chuckled but her face softened. "Sera I'll be honest with you, I'm getting pretty old for this, and I want to make sure that if I leave I'll leaving a worthy successor. So I implore you to take this opportunity, you may leave to think about it of course and your decision is your own, and take as much time as you need. I trust you'll make the right decision, Sera." She winked at Sera, who blushed and nodded as she made her leave. Sera returned to her room and sat down, flustered but full of new found confidence. She barely even heard the door open with a fresh faced woman entering.
"O-oh I'm sorry did I come in too early!" Her face was flushed red from embarrassment, she was clearly new to this whole experience. Sera smiled and gestured for her to join her on the bed, and the woman gingerly walked over and sat on the bed, hands nervously fidgeting. "I-I'm sorry this is... Well this is new to me. My friends and I are visiting fro-" Sera stopped her by placing a hand over her fidgeting fingers.
"Relax dearie, deep breath... My name is Sera, I'll be taking care of you tonight." Sera smiled and felt the woman's fears slowly melt away.
"I-I'm Brigette... My friends kinda uh... Dared me to come here...." Brigette covered her face and groaned. "I'm so sorry for occupying your time you must be very busy I should g-" Again, Sera stopped her just as she was about to stand up.
"Ah, a typical story... Well while you're here might as well have some fun yourself, no?" Sera smirked as she dimmed the lights slightly and let the robe slip off of her...
