Decided to make the first impression thing too

here's one for Vincent. Not a lot of detail since they're one-sided first impressions. Went in alphabetic order instead of order of appearance for simplicity.

Amanda - We may not see eye to eye, but not many hired guns out here have the moral compass to turn down working on the slave trade. I respect that.
Benedikte - She seems quite intelligent, it's good to have her with us. A shame she seems to have difficulties blending in, though.
Diego - Ah, the Panther. His reputation precedes him. I'm surprised he accepted the job, though. Always seemed like a lone wolf to me.
Erina - We need as many talented engineers as we can get in this place, so I welcome her presence. Though there's something odd about her robot...
Errol - Good food, good drink and good music? I like this man.
Gwyd - Finally a doctor in this place! He seems to have very strong opinions about those around him. Comes with the job, I suppose.
Howie - Now that's a loose cannon if I've ever seen one, but I suppose we could use the firepower.
Ija - I've never been in a ship controlled by an AI before. It's... unnerving, even if she seems friendly enough.
Illvara - She's that woman from the King of the Hill games, correct? I'm not a follower of the sport, but she's quite famous. Her skills will come in handy.
Karu - I like her spunk, but I can tell she's not as cheerful as she seems.
Kennedy - He seems like a good kid, but I can't fathom why his parents sent him all the way to this place.
Monica - Poor girl went through hell, and then hell spat her back out. I'm just glad I could help her turn over a new leaf.
Nix - I can't imagine why the pragmatic Elnoi gave her emotions and a personality, but she seems no less effective for it.
Regar - He gives me the impression of being a good man who made mistakes in the past. I can only hope he has learned from them.
Tiquo - An honest Quaret tradesman is a rare sight to behold. This crew is just full of surprises, isn't it?

Name: Dr. "Doc" Gwydion "Gwyd" Palon

Species: Therian

Gender: Male

Age: 44

Appearance: 5'8, 160 pounds.

Personality: Gwyd is somewhat of an enigma to the crew - caring but distant, professional but eccentric. The Therian is a quick talker, empathetic and friendly when he does speak, but also rather private and somewhat secluded. Regardless, he does his duties with utmost precision and passion, a religious fervor blazing in his eyes as he stitches and slices the broken.

Role: Support

Expertise: Medic, primarily focused on in-field surgery and stabilization.

Abilities: While the Humans resort to their profane alterations to their own genetic code, which was ordained by the creator, the Therians prefer to augment their biology through technological means. Such familiarity with cybernetics allows for Therians to be excellent at repairing the molds of machine and host, as well as giving them the ability to stay on par with the augmented humans.

Blessed Hands of the Creator - Gwyd wears a pair of thin titanium gloves at all times, as they are stitched and molded into his very hands and nervous system. These gloves are capable of rapidly stitching wounds tight, welding broken metal, repairing circuits, cauterizing flesh, creating scalpels, removing shrapnel through magnetism, or emitting microscopic tendrils which are controlled through mental activity, suitable for most surgeries or repairs. The Gloves have also been blessed by several Therian priests, dipped in the holy waters of the Aelwen and consecrated to the Creator. Most laugh and do not consider this to improve their efficacy at all, though Gwyd disagrees.
Medical Knowledge and Experience - Gwyd has been working in the field since 2210, operating on virtually every species in the galaxy at some point or another. As a result, Gwyd is an expert on the various biological needs and systems of the species of the galaxy, adept at operating and stabilizing them to various degrees. Gwyd also is a seasoned veteran, not squeamish in the slightest (to an almost disturbing point, frankly).
Ocular Enhancement - Gwyd's eyes are implanted with advanced microscopes, capable of zooming into 1600X magnification, comparable to state of the art medical equipment. This allows him to stitch and slice and suture at very precise levels, especially combined with the tendrils from the Gloves.

Weaknesses:

Aberration Hater - Gwyd despises any form of "sentient" Artificial Intelligence, believing it to be a mockery of the Creator's blessings. Gwyd will not speak to AI or interact with it in any way, unless the situation is life or death. Limited intelligence, such as targeting computers, is acceptable, but a machine that pretends to be speak and be alive is an aberration. He also detests arctisites, as they make operating more difficult (due to the changed genetics of the patient) as well as the blatant disrespect to the Creator's work.
Pacifist - Despite the differences between species, all beings are sons and daughters of the Creator. Gwyd is a being of healing, not one of harm. This is a precarious personal belief to hold in the dangerous space of the Abyss, but Gwyd is firm to his principles and beliefs to the point of death.
Weak - Gwyd is not a combatant. Even if he decided to fight, he likely couldn't.

Bio:

Born in 2191, Gwyd grew up during the chaos of the 20 Year War, which raged from 2195 to 2215. Son of a doctor and a priestess, he grew up as a staunch believer in the Way of the Stars. As a youth, he watched as his uncles and older brothers enlisted in the Elnoi Collective Forces, bidding him farewell and heading off to the front. Gwyd had no desire to join them - the Therian people are not warlike by nature, more diplomats and scholars than warriors or engineers. Uninterested in the war or the politics of the galaxy, he prepared himself to follow in the priesthood, much like his mother.

However, as the casualties and injured began to return from the home front, Gwyd watched as his brothers and sisters struggled, many bearing wounds of both the body and the mind. When his brother Meilyr returned from the front, equipped with a crude prosthetic in the place of an arm, Gwyd's apathy about the war and the galaxy changed. He was no longer content to stay upon the surface of Jako and tend to the souls of the citizens there - not when there were brothers and sisters in harm's way.

At the age of 14 (as Therians mature quickly, in comparison to humans) he pledged himself to the Aelwen hospital, and entered the apprenticeship program there. For five years, he studied under surgeons, nurses, and mechanics, working to repair the broken and sew the torn. However, a thought troubled him - at home, they were healing those who survived. But there were plenty in the field itself that never had the chance to make it back. He eagerly pushed to be shipped off, though his supervisor declined, claiming it was far too dangerous for a young adult.

However, in 2210, at the age of 19, Gwyd received his chance. While the Therians were reluctant to send apprentices to the front, the tide of the war was not going well for the Collective. As soon as the restriction to ship lowered from 22 to 18, Gwyd shipped off to the front, armed with his unshakable faith and basic medical equipment. For five years, he served in the Therian Collective Medical Corps, operating in all sorts of environments from ship medbays to chaotic battlegrounds. During this time, seeing the death and destruction which the war delivered to all systems in its path, Gwyd's belief in nonviolence and pacifism hardened into stone. All creatures and beings were sons and daughters of the Creator, regardless of their sins and misgivings.

Once the war ended in 2215, Medical 1LT Gwyd returned home to a thankful family. After a year of rest and spiritual reflection, Gwyd chose to join up with the Carwyn Healers, a non-profit charity that provided for veterans of the Twenty Year War. While he enjoyed the work and his coworkers, and was blessed to repair some of the damage that the war had done to his people, something in his soul was not content. There were still lives out there in harm's way, and his talents were going to waste in the safety and confines of this hospital.

To his colleagues' surprise, in 2223, Gwyd shipped away from the Salvation System yet again. Bidding his family farewell, he applied to and joined the Public Health department of the Collective government (akin to the Red Cross), working as a doctor for Elnoi systems under strife. For twelve years, he has travelled the galaxy and worked everywhere from primitive villages to mega-cities. Due to his seniority and years of service, as well as his considerable talent, Gwyd was appointed to the crew of the Oriasa in 2234.

Equipment:

If a medicine exists, Gwyd has it stashed in his cluttered and messy quarters.
The Gloves of the Creator, those those are sewn into his hands and nervous system and virtually a piece of himself as opposed to mere equipment.
Gwyd carries around a small shield generator in his backpack, big enough to project a shield around him and a patient. This is not a powerful shield, but it is often enough to provide rudimentary cover.

Likes: Animals. Family. The Way of the Stars. The view of the stars from the ship.

Dislikes: Arctisites, AI, alcohol, arrogant/egotistical people, violence

With a click of a button, the camcorder whirrs to life. The lens is obscured by a silver hand, before Gwyn backs away and sits down. Seated in the medbay of the ship, the Therian leans back, taking a long sip of tea.

"Daily log 351, 1941 hours. Gwyn Palon dictating. Message addressed to the Palon extended household."

The therian clears his throat.

"Good afternoon, brothers and sisters. I pray this message finds you well. Well...I shall try to keep the pleasantries brief. All is well on the ship. I am blessed and in good health. There has been little work that needs to be done as of late. Though I am bored by this, I am also grateful that my companions are unharmed. It's somewhat ironic, is it not? I am happiest when my talents are put to use, and yet my soul would be happier if they did not need to be put to use at all."

Gwyd laughs, a strange horse-like sound like rushing air filling the microphone as the Therian expels air through his four nostrils above his eyes.

"Some of you all asked about my coworkers. Well, my brethren, the vast majority of this message will be censored. Such information is highly confidential. I pray that you shall hear at least a few words from here. I know that you will be disappointed, little Caerwyn, but such matters are not for your ears. Regardless, I will do my best to describe them all. They are quite a cast of characters. Rogues, veterans, and outcasts. Certainly more fascinating than the stuffy intellectuals I have spent the last few years with."

Amanda - "It's good to have a pilot of flesh and blood on staff, as opposed to those accursed computers that these Humans use so often. Perhaps she has a few prior indiscretions, but such things can be looked past. The woman has a good soul."
Benedikte - "A disgrace to the title of 'Doctor'. A fitting colleague for Oppenheimer and little more."
Diego - "A neurotic, aggressive, violent human heretic. I do my best to stay astray of the Panther. A fitting nickname."
Erina - "The girl's quite nice, truthfully. A bright mind and a fixer. The robot seems to be within acceptable parameters for a machine...though I do have my concerns about it."
Errol - "An excellent cook. Much better than the hospital food I'm used to. And a talented musician, and a believer in the tenet of nonviolence as well. Erool is a splendid shipmate, to say the least! A good friend of mine, though I do have my concerns about his hea...well, that's confidential!"
Howie - "I appreciate this human soldier for abstaining from the heresy of the flesh, and I admire the fantastic meld between machine and man. Now, the man himself is far too wild for my tastes, but..."
Ija - "Dreadful, horrid machine. An insult to the Creator. Every word from its grating voice disturbs my soul."
Illvara - "Another heretical human with a damaged soul. She searches for meaning. I hope she finds it."
Karu - "Ah, the cat. A self-centered, xenophobic navigator. I stay quiet around her, saying little more than yes or no. It seems to keep me out of trouble well enough."
Kennedy - "A nice and pleasant young man. We get along quite well. But I must ask - what the hell is he doing here? Was there a clerical error?"
Monica - "A living weapon. I feel more pity for the woman than anything else, though, if even a third of the documentation I received about her is true."
Nix - *looks around nervously, making sure nobody is in earthshot* "Disgusting. Vile. A machine masquerading as a woman. I would shut this thing down if I could. I do my best to hide my feelings about it, but...it seems to know, somehow, which makes me detest it even further."
Regar - "Bright, competent, and honorable! I do appreciate Regar as a professional associate."
Tiasha - "Tiasha is nice, but I don't completely trust her. Seems like she's a...consultant, of some sort?"
Tiquo - "An respectable and peaceful Quaret. An exemplary fellow. A bit on the quiet and private side, which I respect, of course."
Vincent - "A good man, though scarred by duty. You would like him, Cousin Dafydd. The documentation says he's a criminal, but I personally don't believe it."

After another thirty minutes of rambling, Gwyd looks at his watch.

"Oh, well, it appears that is time for dinner. Brothers and sisters, I love you all very much. I should be able to visit for my Birthing Day next year, if my leave clears. I hope to see you all then, and I shall talk to you tomorrow." he finishes, and his hand blocks the lens before all goes to black.

Only as a note for better following of Karu by players...having no problem with the post...Karu is not so much Xenophobic as 'I'm just better than you...'
Trust me she isn't afraid/hate other races...she just doesn't think their as good as her.

But having some characters translate that into xenophobia, perfectly fine...

Thank you! Yes, I chopped an image of a futuristic medic (although now that I'm trying to find it again I can't smh) and the Therian species image together with GIMP, which is Photoshop for cheap people like myself.

Don't worry, it came across fine in the app, it's just a character perspective deal. Gwyd is pretty egalitarian, so Karu's outlook is just exaggerated and stretched out of proportion in his mind.

Tiasha - "Interesting. I was curious as to what became of her after her family's illegal trading was exposed. She managed to survive Apex's criminals without extensive combat skills. I hope her current bookkeeping is more above board than her last."

Since everybody else seems to be doing it, I’m putting up Ben’s first impressions of everybody:

Diego: She appreciates a man (or woman) who loves a good bomb as much as she does, it’s hard to find people who have an appreciation for the fine arts of explosion.

Erina: A sweet girl, but has definitely been burned before. Ben knows what that feels like, not to have anyone understand. She feels a strange kinship with her.

Kennedy: A nice kid, but can be far too hyperactive for her tastes. He reminds her of her little brother back home, except hyped up on way more pixie stix. Plus Velvet (her cat) likes him, so...

Regar: It’s like looking into a mirror with him, she knows exactly what it’s like to make a catastrophic mistake that affects those around you, it never really goes away.

Errol: He likes to have a good time, nothing wrong with that. But she finds herself kind of envious at his social butterfly personality, she can’t be in a huge crowd for too long without getting uncomfortable...how does the man do it?!

Howie: Doesn’t seem like a bad fellow, but he really needs to tone the adrenaline junkie shit down a couple of notches before he gets himself killed.

Illvara: The woman is brave and tough, she goes after what she wants and that Ben can admire. She also finds herself extremely fascinated by her as a person and from a scientific standpoint. How does such a person feel and work after being so heavily enhanced?

Karu: Fucked in the head but tries her best...hey, kinda like me. She respects Karu’s resolve but often finds herself wondering if the girl is off her meds.

Ija: “Yeesh, and I thought I was the one who had social situation problems.”

Monica: “I pity her, but yet she frightens me...this is odd.”

Tiasha: If Littlefinger was a woman. I’d better watch myself around this one. It’s not easy to stay ahead of everyone else though, what’s her secret? I want to know.

Nix: The girl’s got balls of steel, you can’t help but respect somebody so determined to survive.

Vincent: Definitely strong, a welcome addition to the team. But one can’t help but wonder if he pushes himself too much at times.

Gwyd: He’s very competent and skilled, but I don’t appreciate die Arschloch thinking he can gatekeep who can hold the title of Doctor. I’m a disgrace to the title, my three degrees say otherwise you Erbsenzähler. At least he’s made me more careful about not hurting myself.

A little reminder, outside of Errol and Regan it's unlikely you would know she's not an android. Well, not counting Ija, but she's the ship.

Judging by other character responses, it’s now canon that Gwyd thinks he does a good job of disguising how he feels, but his ear flaps turn red or upper nostrils flair every time he looks at someone he doesn’t like.

I wanted to make a second character but the role of physician was already reserved by someone else even before the app was made. Hey Laz, you need a physician’s assistant?
