One thing: the first round of "Bush Tax Cuts" or the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 lowered tax cuts for everyone, and the second round, the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003, is basically a truism and shortened the timeline of lowering the tax cuts from 2006 to 2003.

Long story short: the Bush tax cuts were for everybody.

but they benefitted the rich far more than anyone else.

It doesn't matter who they benefited. The country cannot afford any of them period.

There is no such thing as small government in a system like America's. You either have a highly authoritarian government who interferes needlessly with your life and systematically limits your rights and privileges, a government who takes more taxes and spends that money on helping the disadvantaged, or a government who builds a massive military force and tromps around the globe saying "Look at us we are powerful!", or some combination thereof. In any case the government is bigger than it ought to be; I'd rather have the second type.

I'm personally tired of hearing (primarily female) Democrats who think that things would be better if Hillary Clinton were nominated instead of Obama. Hillary and Obama have always held the same views on basically every issue. If Hillary were president (although, I'm not certain she would have beaten McCain, as I don't think she gets the same numbers among under-30 voters), I doubt things would be much different from where they are today.

The difference between Clinton and Obama is a difference of personalities, not of policies. The problem this country faces today is that the policies of the Democratic Party have failed and have been disastrous for this country (yes, the Republicans are not much better, but they have done a somewhat decent job since Obama was inaugurated).

I strongly reject the Democratic Party's policies of constant giveaways to Democratic Party constituencies at the expense of the economy. The Stimulus was primarily focused on maintaining primarily female government jobs rather than providing jobs for the men who are disproportionate victims of the Obama Depression. The Obama Health Care Law is a giveaway to the health insurance racket that forces people to buy a product they don't need and don't want. The Employee "Free" Choice Act (which fortunately did not pass) would have enabled unions to more easily intimidate workers into accepting a union that they don't want and having to pay "dues" to that union so that it can donate to the Democratic Party. The "Cap and Trade" proposal was a giveaway to certain corporations supposedly for the purpose of reducing temperatures by a few degrees in a century or so (thankfully, that didn't pass either). The Financial Regulation law included affirmative action mandates in bank hiring and granted more power to the same incompetents at the Federal Reserve who arguably caused the initial crisis in the first place. The Democrats bailed out failing car companies at the expense of the taxpayers, including the Americans who manufacture and purchase "foreign" cars such as Toyotas. The Democrats even passed a law to cut food stamps so that they could bail out the teacher's unions and the SEIU union in order to get more votes on election day!

The Republicans have opposed almost every ill-advised Democratic policy of the last 2 years. Unfortunately, far too many of them have supported Obama's War in Afghanistan, which needs to end if we are going to restore fiscal sanity. Yes, they have also opposed some of the good ideas the Democrats have had, such as their proposal to repeal portions of the disastrous Republican expansion of Medicare (didn't the great Republican Barry Goldwater oppose the creation of Medicare?). Still, even if the Republicans are imperfect, the Democrats deserve to lose.

It's not really fair to blame Obama for the failures of the 111th Congress. The Democratic compromises that produced weak bills (like the healthcare bill which really amounted to a corporate blowjob more than anything else) and Republican decision to sit around and do all of jack shit until 2010 was really out of Obama's hands.

However, now that the Republicans have the House, people are going to expect them to actually do their jobs. It's kind of funny, really. The Republicans vilify those who sit on welfare and don't work, and they just wasted two years getting paid by the government for doing nothing.

It'll deifnitely help the health insurance companies, calling it a giveaway is perhaps going too far, but it certainly strengthens their position.

I actually agree with this. Maybe if the Democrats showed some balls and stood by their legislative accomplishments instead of running away from them like a scared little girl, they wouldn't have lost the House or so many seats in the Senate.
