Conserative Morality wrote:"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

About as much as "let's kill Christians to show how Christian we are" made sense to crusaders.
In-group dynamics.

Hausas are a very large ethnic group in Nigeria. Kanuris on the other hand almost entirely live in Borno State which is pretty much where Boko Haram exists. Islam is widespread throughout northern Nigeria. Yet Boko Haram is clearly a Borno State phenomenon as opposed to a northern Nigerian, let alone Pan-Islamic one. So the real nature of BH is pretty obvious.

Hausa dominate all of Northern Nigeria, including Shuwa Arabs and Kanuri. They don’t really hate each other. Boko Haram is quite nationalist like the Taliban, but not really “Kanuri nationalism.”

How so when Hausas don’t even tend to live in Borno state? Nigeria is a federal republic and governors are elected by people in a given state. Of course political leadership of Borno is as Kanuri as the people.

Boko Haram, while based in Borno, is more than just Borno. The name itself is even Hausa.

It’s a southern Nigerian phenomenon, right? That has nothing to do with Boko Haram and is a completely different problem. The location mentioned here is in Yorubaland near Lagos.
