Every five years there's a traditional multiparty democratic election, barring the term limits. However, if you'd rather prove through skill and not popularity, you may challenge the current leader to a sort of contest.

There are many different ways: Military coups, the leader chooses succor once he dies, high ranking government officials agree on a new leader, assignation attempt by the succor on the leader, assignation attempts in general, and more.

I am a monarchy, so the eldest child becomes the king or queen. The prime minister is elected. There is no term limit for the PM so when the current PM steps down or dies, a new one is elected

What an outrageous concept, leader is eternal leader for life, thinking ahead is tortuous and treasonous! No need to choose leader!

Since elections does not exist in this nation, succession is chosen by ministries called the 'Falange Council' where the very fit to rule has the best chance of winning.

The King of Kaitain Ix is seemingly immortal. There is no definitive way of knowing if the King is truly undying or if it is just the newest in a very long line of identical people with the same name.

The position of King of the French is hereditary, with the title being succeeded too in male-only primogeniture. In recent years it has been suggested that this form of succession be reformed as to allow women to inherit, but nothing has come of this as of yet.

The Premier Ministre and Deputy Prime Minister of France are technically nominated by the King, but in reality, the Prime Minister is practically elected, with those running first requiring the nomination of at least 500 local officials from the departments to request that they be considered for Prime Minister, and will begin campaigning for the position. Following the election, the results are examined by the Monarch and Parliament, with a nominee being chosen based on the results of the election from among the nominees of the majority in the Parliament. The Premier will then be able to appoint the Deputy Premier from among the members of Parliament with the approval of the Monarch. The Monarch can dismiss the Deputy at any time, well the Premier requires a vote of no confidence in Parliament for his dismissal to be approved.

Technically succession based on the current CEO's choice following death or resignation but in practice no. The current executive isn't going to be going away for a long time and the contingency is always a basic b█tch direct election.

Hi, it's been a while. If you're seeing this then it means what I'm working on is not quite done yet. You can still read my old stuff but it's probably not canon anymore. I'll try to get something up soon. It may or may not involve wizards.

After the death or most often resignation of the previous Great Apostate, elections for a new great apostate are held. All citizens can run in elections, be elected and vote regardless of race, gender, religion or whatever. The people always hold the right to overthrow the current great apostate if they do not like him or for any reason.

The Valerijanovic family traditionally takes on the role of the royal family. The current ruler of the Theocracy of Tupeia is the Great Apostate Daimos. Daimos is directly connected to the Valerijanovic family through a connection between a family member and an ordinary citizen.

Empress Jhessan became the heir to the Imperial Throne by winning a Wrestling Tounament that her father Emperor Captain Spaulding held on a whim. For a time she served as Co-Empress until her father retired from active rule.

Jhessan plans to turn the throne over to the eldest of her twin children Cassandra, sometime in the future, and plans to also co-rule with her daughter for a few years afterwards before retiring from politics. Should the Empress die or be incapacitated before reaching Cassandra's majority, Jhessan's husband Imperial Prince Consort Perfecto will serve as regent until Cassandra reaches the age of 21.

The Prime Minister is chosen by the electorate. When they vote for their MP in a general election, the leader of the largest party becomes Prime Minister.

If the Prime Minister resigns, a general election is always held. A general election always occurs every for years too; this regular timetable is unaffected by the Prime Minister's resignation.

The Emperor inherits the throne via modified male primogeniture; the eldest son of the previous emperor by his empress consort is the heir apparent. If no suitable male heir exists, a princess of the imperial bloodline may be crowned until a suitable prince can inherit.

The Queen inherits the throne via matrilineal primogeniture, though if the intended heiress apparent is deemed unsuitable for some reason, the queen or High Council can disinherit her and the next person in line will inherit the throne.
